Bill Clinton Won’t Campaign for Obama Until After Jewish Holidays
On a previously recorded interview to air on CNN’s "Larry King Live" tonight, former President Bill Clinton says he will wait until after Thursday, Oct. 9, before he will start campaigning for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., Politico’s Ben Smith reports.
What’s the significance of Oct. 9?
Why, it’s the Jewish Day of Atonement, of course.
And though the Southern Baptist former president isn’t known for being a particularly devout Jew who observes the High Holy Days, apparently he’s decided to wait until after Yom Kippur and the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, before he starts campaigning for his wife’s former rival, for whom many Democrats suspect the Clintons aren’t exactly rooting enthusiastically.
"When [the Clinton Global Initiative] is over, and after the Jewish holidays, which follow close on it, I intend to go to Florida, to Ohio, to northeast Pennsylvania, and to Nevada at a minimum," says the former president. "I may do events in Arkansas, depending on what the Democratic Party does down there. And I’ve agreed to do some fundraising for them in California and New York."
Asked King: "Are you kind of feeling Jewish that you’re waiting until after the Jewish holidays?"
"No. But I think it would be — if we’re trying to win in Florida, it may be that," Clinton began, before discussing his real Florida target: "You know, they think that, because of who I am and where my politic[al] base has traditionally been, they may want me to go sort of hustle up what Lawton Chiles used to call the ‘cracker vote’ there.
"But Sen. Obama also has a big stake in doing well in the Jewish community in Florida, where Hillary did very well and where I did very well. And I just think respecting the holidays is a good thing to do," he said.

I love it. This is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. DId Bill Clinton happen to miss the Yom Kippur war?
Bill Clinton has never stood for anything but Bill Clinton and never will. Since his comments on the campaign trail resemble someone with touret’s syndrome, it seems like a really good idea. Maybe he should wait until after McCain’s favorite Jewish holiday, Purim (which he thought was Halloween).

Really?? Perhaps it will be best if he decides to come out on November 9, or what about Hanukkah? The “outsourcing” syndrome is really becoming the beginning of the end of national politics for Hillary. No way she can “win” regardless of the 18 mil she got, because the fracture is too much to heal, even in the distant future.

I think President Clinton is very smart and this is a good thing. By then the bailout will hopefully be in place and that is when most americans will be ready to really pay attention. Respect is something that will play wll with people. I also think all the Senators in this race should haul ass back to DC. Obama;s remarks about a President having to do many things is outright ridiculous. If my house were on fire I think I would not want to take a road trip or have a garage sale. My first obligation would be to put out the fking fire.

Is Obama capable of winning his “historic” candidacy by himself, or he needs the Clintons to do it for him? Will he need them to govern the country too? Shall Bill and Hillary clear all their schedule to campaign for Obama? And this for the Obama supporters: just because someone is not fainting when Obama gives yet another speech, does not make him/her a racist.

Jake, when it comes to us Jews, Sarah Palin has a serious new preacher problem.
Daily Kos just published a video, with Palin in it, of the scary preacher Muthee in her church. In the video we see Sarah Palin come forward to stand before the congregation and receive his blessing. What matters is Muthee’s introduction to his ‘prayer for Sarah’.
He says a lot of weird things, but the anti-semitism is striking. I quote:
“The second area whereby God wants us, wants to penetrate in our society is in the economic area. The Bible says that the wealth of the wicked is stored up for the righteous. It’s high time that we have top Christian businessmen, businesswomen, bankers, you know, who are men and women of integrity running the economics of our nations. That’s what we are waiting for. That’s part and parcel of transformation. If you look at the — you know — if you look at the Israelites, that’s how they work. And that’s how they are, even today.”
Palin is there, we see her receive his blessing. It’s a horrible sight.

I have a mixed reaction to Bill Clinton’s decision to wait until after the Day of Atonement before beginning any campaigning for Obama. I’d like to think his decision is a mark of respect for Jewish voters, but my cynical side keeps saying uh uh; he’s just playing the odds. I liked Bill when he was President even tho his moral behavior was deplorable. However, no matter how qualified Hillary is, plus the fact she’s a woman, the thought of Bill as “First Gentleman” was beyond my ability to visualize. He would be constitutionally unable to keep his nose out of presidential business. I’m talking about his constitution, not THE Constitution.

I also think all the Senators in this race should haul ass back to DC. Obama;s remarks about a President having to do many things is outright ridiculous.
——————
What is rediculous is McCain somehow had plenty of time to do an interview with Katie Couric, he had time to do an interview on Fox, and now – a week AFTER the crisis started – he can’t handle a two hour debate and must to get back to Washington. It surely doesn’t have anything to do with McCain’s plummeting poll numbers right? After all, he’s a POW. Now THAT’S rediculous!
As if Congress shuts down if he’s not there for a couple hours. The man hasn’t placed a vote on anything since April. (It was June for Obama)
And even more obserd, McCain wants to postpone the VP debate. (Though after seeing Palin with Couric, I completely understand why.)
The ‘pubs are running scared and trying to use the economic crisis for political games.
Perhaps he should write AlQida and tell them to postpone any violence since he obviously can’t handle more than one thing at a time.

debra, I certainly didn’t like these Wright tapes either, nor did Obama for that matter, and I respect his decision to denounce them and leave his church. But everyone knows that Obama was not in church when Wright flipped out in the way he did on that tapes.
Palin however is at the center of the video I referred to. She is in church listening to an anti-semite preacher, she’s coming forward, standing center stage for minutes to receive his voodoo style blessings, AFTER sh heard him talk about ‘the Israelites’ and ‘how they are, even today’.
BTW why compare it to Wright. For me this is very shocking in itself, and it shocks me to see Palin feeling so at home in such an anti-semite radical church.
If we compare it to Wright, but why should we, the most striking difference is that the MSM has shown the Wright tapes a 1000 times over and over again, whereas the scary Muthee doesn’t get aired, even while we see him and Palin together in their crazy church.

To Truth hurts…the upcoming debate is on foreign poicy not the economy…why not switch the Veep debates to this Friday.
I think this is reasonabe. These Senators who are going to be leading our country shoud be in DC giving heir ears and eyes to the debate on this bailout.
Politics aside and whether someone read or said something on this fiasco is mute…we are going to have our GOV make a draconian decision that affects every one in this country, I think it is reasonable that those who wish to wear the CInC hat should be there and contribute …even if not on the committee that oversees this they can meet with those that are and contribute. These are the men who are vying for the biggest job in America and imo they shoud be there.
If my business was failing as CEO where would I want to be out on the stump taking about what I would do or at the decision table making my points known to the ones who are deciding the fate of my company. Get real…the debate is about foreign policy and they can easiiy switch the format this friday to the Veeps. No wonder we are so fked up in this country no one sees the trees for the forest.

It is too bad so many people hate the clintons, for the crazy reasons they hate them.
Bill and Hillary Clinton are very smart people. Just what this country needs right now.
for the people who say they like palin because “she is just like me”
well the average american is not smart enough to be president or vice president
laura bush said today that palin didn’t have much foreign policy experience, but she is a quick study WHAT?!
on the news hour tonight they said mccain is a laid back type of leader that goes around the room when having meeting and takes everybodies word. well that is just what they said about bush the first time. “he’s laid back”
I think laid back now means DUMB
and I did pick up on bush in his reading tonight trying to blame clinton.
Bill clinton made more sense on the daily show and larry king about this mess, than bush did in his reading.
Posted by: j | September 24, 2008, 11:17 pm 11:17 pm
lina yoma,
we should all be praying that clinton will continue to campaign for obama anytime he can get him. I know that is what obama and co. are praying for.
because we all need to pray mccain and palin don’t win.
has anyone noticed how obama has surrounded himself with all of bill clinton’ economic advisors.
obama dissed the clinton’ in the primaries, tried to say the economy was not all that great under bill clinton.
and now he has all of bill’ people.
what about the fresh new change people he was bringing to washington?

I just think it is hypocritical for anyone to criticize McCain for going back to DC to help with the bailout. The equivalent of a 9-11 has happened–as in “unprecedented” and “dire”–in the financial markets and key decisions/discussions are being made that will affect America for years to come! Obama is acting like so many CEO-minded idiots who think things just work on auto-pilot. Engage, Obama! I truly believe people can be so smart that they are just dumb about some things. The US dollar is in intensive care and Obama is trying to prove he can juggle rather coming to the bedside. McCain has my vote.

The Clintons have done more then enough.
The Obama camp and his supporters have never felt they needed the Clintons to win so why the outrage now? Personally,
I know the Clintons are loyal Democrats but I really would love to see who they cast their vote for President for. If both or either of them voted McCain I wouldn’t be shocked.

get off of this foolishness, and think about what will help you and your family.

the most recent ABC poll shows that 88% of registered Democrats intend to vote for Obama. That should include a lot of former Hillary supporters, I’d say.
In comparison a smaller percentage, 81%, of registered Republicans intends to vote for McCain.
In other words, Obama is doing very well.

Debra, Do you read the polls? The polls, without question, show that there has been movement all summer. Obama got a bump from the convention, McCain got a bump from the convention, and since the plummet on Wall Street, McCain has gone steadilly downhill. There has been a sizable shift toward Obama – according to every poll in this week alone. Americans blame the Republicans 2:1 for this economic mess. And they should.

I Am So I Can: Are you aware of what John McCain was doing today, as Wall Street burned? He was meeting with a sort of American – Lady de Rothschild, who splits her time between London and Manahattan. Do you think that he spent a lot of time with Lady de Rothschild discussing what this 700 Billiion welfare package will do to regular Americans. On the other side, Obama was invited by the Bush administration to discuss the economic crisis – and agreed. Maybe Lady de Rothschild and McCain can discuss Lear Jets. Or how many collective homes they own.

Also for an explanation for why “the man of the people” would be waiting on one of the fattest cats around – Lady DE Rothschild – on a day when most Americans are worried about whether they will still have a job or still be able to send their kids to college or still have a house. Perhaps he can start selling one of his many houses – after all – this Republican administration is moving us as close to pure communism than we have ever seen. And ther are large groups of passengers riding the commuter lines at Union Station who will be happy to confirm this for you!

Mara could you possibly get me Obama’s grades from Columbia and Obama’s senior thesis. All the other candidates have released grades- everyone except Obama.

Staniem, Perhaps Sarah Palin’s savior will save us – the one who spoke of serpents and snakes and Israelites – all with the same level of violent threat and contempt – while he BLESSED Sarah Palin and asked her congregation for political support. Creeeeeeepy. It’s on camera. Recorded. And not going away – reagrdless of what the Disney boys do. Even southern Baptists don’t do this kind of stuff.

I didnt say Palins religion wasnt disturbing but thats not a qualification for presidenta messianic complex is what the current presidnt has and we dont need to go through that again Obama thinks all he had to do was show up thats not the case

Samantha – You betcha, gal. Just as soon as you show me Sarah Palin’s transcripts. I’d also like to see some samples of her writing. Any idea what classes she took? Any idea why she went to five colleges? Those aren’t the most important issues to me, gal, but why dontcha try to find out?

I guarantee that all of Obamas records are under seal in chicago by order of mayor dayley… Obama should be required to release all personal info even bush released that DUI record on the eve of the 2000 election when he knew it would hurt him

yea to Obama its all about him though he says the opposite on the campaign trail! Like Bill Clinton says, “I get where he is coming from” though because he knows he needs to turn out his army of privaledged self centered young and college age kids to vote for him to win

I think they will get what they deserve if the electoral colllege is split and Palin becomes VP because Cheney will cast the deciding vote…they wil rue the day that they ever jumped ahead of the process where Clinton would run first and Obama is young enough to run in 2012 or 2016

If McCain treats Peggy Hill like a child with his obsessive protectiveness, why should anyone else take her seriously.

Mara…you might as well give it up trying to correct or convince anyone here about your ideas or knowledge(they can look it up themselves and believe or not)
If you know the truth, then you are all that matters.
Some people have the knowledge of all things imagined and believe what they are going to believe.
Some could see it face to face and swear it was their lying eyes.
So, everyone agree to disagree and matters not what gets posted here(my post included) freedom of speech comes at a cost, and everyone pays the price.
Good luck to you all.

Oh and “Lady DE Rothschild” called people who cling to guns and religion…”You know, those Rednecks.”
She said it on tv about 5 days ago and said she left supporting Obama because she believed he was an elitist….and she isn’t??????
Just my freedom of speech again.

Samantha, I am so sorry – I thought you would like it. It’s the way that gal Sarah often opens her speeches. Usually it’s “guys and gals.” Just think… she may be the next President of the United States and you’ll get to hear it all the time. “guys and gals, i’ve just decided to bomb russia because it is a task from the Lord.
And I don’t care if you are black, white or green. Also I don’t recall mentioning that Obama graduated with honors. I said he made it into Harvard Law – without affirmative action and without legacy. And I would love to see Sarah Palin’s grades if someone can produce them.

Oh and as to the with honors question for Obama…
Here you go…
Obama:finished in the top ten percentile in his high school of 3600.
Graduated Magna Cum Laude…that is what you needed?
Is that enough HONORS???

I Am So I Can: Yep – I sure do know who Lady DE Rothschild is and where she stands on the Forbes 450. I believe that would put her in the class of “Fat Cats” who John McCain had such disdain for this week. I believe he said those greedy Fat Cats caused this economic crisis. But that was Tuesday, wasn’t it? And today is Thursday. Remind me again, which day was it that John McCain said that the economy was just fine? That’s right – that was Monday. Before his running mate said that we are going to have the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression? And how many weeks has it been since Phil Gramm, John McCain’s close economic advisor and friend said that the problems with the economy were “mental” and John McCain’s solution had something to do with Ebay?
Posted by: mara | September 25, 2008, 2:42 am 2:42 am
Bev: Thanks – I couldn’t find Sarah Palin’s transcripts and I don’t thnk they will be released, but she did say that she got a D in macroeconomics as an undergrad. I guess she thought it wouldn’t matter too much.

Mara…you are very welcome…the truth will out.
To me, doesn’t matter if she got an A+ in Journalism(which is what she took) I took that as well.
It does in no way educate you to be VP nor President.
That being said, I don’t believe anything in this world prepares you to be the head of a powerful country like the USA.
Since she could not think on her feet with Katie Couric and give specifics as to things McCain has done to reform or regulate in the last 26 years and saying “I will find some and get back to you” is not thinking on your feet, or just parroting McCain on getting back to someone on how many homes he has.
Now they wish to delay the VP debate, does that seem someone is concerned if she can not handle Katie, she will not handle a real hard question and answer?
Sorry, off topic for this venue, but just thought I would inform.

I can only think that Bill Clinton would campaign for Obama is for reasons That go beyond normal politics.
With Mr Obama being entangled in The DNC/Chicago Machine merge, seems Threats, intimidation or some other low life tactics used by Obama campaign would be forcing Bill’s hand into campaigning for Obama.
More is going on Behind the scenes of the obama campaign than meets the eye.
Bill should wait until Nov 5th before starting to campaign for Obama. It is plain to see Obama is not the right person for the job of President of the United States.

If Obama thinks he’s doing well with Jewish voters, he’s delusional. The media might have you think he’s got a significant Jewish following, but consider the source. Most Jews don’t trust a man with long histories with hateful and anti-Israeli friends and associates.

In some parts of the world many of the people are only beginning to learn about real democracy and how to govern themselves.
Those struggling lands are full of young people just beginning to understand how education and modern tools can help make a safe, free economy with good rules, so that poverty, sickness, ignorance, and crime may no longer thrive.
To them I say: I hope your suffering population can value patience, because democracy is better than guns, better than dictatorship, those false expedients. Democracy is worth the wait and difficulty. I hope your people find time honored ways in your own culture to better yourselves, because the quality of a democracy is only as good as its citizens, a quality you can see in how people treat each other.
Oh angry lands! To them I say: I hope you learn to love (or at least tolerate) the different tribes and beliefs among yourselves.
To those waste and war threatened lands I say: I hope your citizens can share power by having fair elections. I hope you pick the finest characters to lead and the most skilled legislators to design your laws. I hope you strive to keep your laws and your judges free of partisanship and ideology, accepting this necessary and difficult task unceasingly. I hope you forever respect your statesmen, and recognize them as the ones who in every vote and every election, win or lose, are always faithful to the legitimacy and mediating power of your Constitution.
I hope the troubled tribes of the world can find peace within and among themselves. I hope they never give up on lofty dreams, nor lack in practical diligence. Above all, I hope they have courage, against their own fear and anger, to avoid the low emotions, the unmanly and animal panic that drives people and governments into endless cycles of paranoia and war.
Consider the above a message in a bottle washed up on the beach. The address and the return address are the same: the United States of America. The P.S. says simply, Ever faithful. Peace.

I was a huge Hillary supporter but think it was wrong of her not to go to the anti-Iran rally. The Democrats – lead by Obama – pressured the organizers to disinvite Palin by threatening an IRS investigation of their non-profit group.
Chicago politics on a national level – is this the change we need?

I am confused by a couple of the posts above. Obviously this thread is frequented by some wack jobs, but really–”Obama has shown himself not to be the man we need for this office”?….REALLY? I won’t go into the gutter politics that Karl Rove’s henchman has sunk the McCain campaign into. I won’t discuss the “hail mary” passes he’s been throwing the last month to attempt to keep the nation divided and distracted while he hopes for a miracle. I’ll simply point you to an Obamam campaign and a candidate that has withstood a massive negative advertising campaign from one of the most well funded candidates ever (Hillary) and the negative vibes from her and her still popular former president husband. I’ll point you to the perseverence and lack of animosity that he has displayed in public and apparently in private (no leaks) over the last several months of what has had to be an exhausting campaign that, according to Karl Rove and George Will themselves, has gotten too nasty and desperate from McCain. Compare the vp picks. Palin? Even Peggy Noonan calls her vapid and a cynical pick. Biden? Obama went with a guy who he knew had experience–more than him–on foreign affairs (he’s the chair of that committee, not McCain) and financial (he used to be on that committee). Biden can put his foot in his mouth, but Obama picked him for his EXPERTISE and INTELLIGENCE….folks, I know things have gotten really stupid in washington the last eight years, and that GW has made people think being smart is bad, but look what that has given us. We reap what we sew, and we have sewn the wind–we’re reaping a whirlwind. We need a steady hand, a keen intellect, a person who will work with all sides. McCain? hardly. His latest grandstand (shutting down the campaign?) to go to Washington….roundly decried and derided by BOTH sides of the aisle. They already had most of an agreement worked out. McCain doesn’t even serve on those committees and has admitted the economy isn’t his strong suit. What’s he DOING there? And he crassly stole Obama’s thunder after Obama was man enough to reach out yesterday and suggest they go on tv together to talk about this…..my god, people, please pay attention.

Coachbarbee, you need to check around a bit and see what kind of “gutter politics” McCain-Palin have been facing from Obama and his “henchmen”.
Fair-minded, intelligent people can feel that Obama is in no way qualified to be President and that McCain is. It’s that simple.
