Bipartisan Panel Finds House GOP Was Right, Republicans Won Controversial 2007 Immigration Vote
Fox News and The Hill weigh in on a story I’ve been following and will blog more about later — the August 2007 "Stolen Vote" on a controversial immigration issue that Republicans actually won, but Democrats ruled that they won, instead.
The six-person bipartisan panel ruled unanimously that: "the vote tally of 212 yeas and 216 nays that was finally announced is incorrect. It is either 215 yeas and 213 nays, which would have reflected the tally at the time the chair prematurely announced the statement of result, or 211 yeas and 217 nays, which would have reflected the tally had (House Minority Leader John) Boehner’s well card been processed.”
More later.

Doesn’t that equate to “It is either ‘yes’ or ‘no’”?
So… who won the vote again?

When is the government sending me my check for this bail out???

Lets see, when the Rupugs was in control the first 4 years of Bush’s term they did such an awful job with passing all this deregulation stuff that when the people put the same man back into office they was being smart to an extent by putting in a Dem congress… I wonder how much worse off we would be if the Repugs still owned congress?????

Hey “smith”
Please give examples of how the Democrats have failed in trying correct nearly 12 years of Republican control, including the last seven in which they also controlled the White House. I hear a lot of yapping, but very few facts, which seems to be typical of the conseratives. They tend to make unsubstiantiated allegations, which are not supported by reality.

What – our Congress can’t count their own votes and we’re trusting them with 700 billion our dollars to bail out those crooks on Wall Street? We deserve each and every one of them!
Posted by: hang | September 25, 2008, 4:20 pm 4:20 pm
This bail out isn’t going to solve the basic problems with the economy. People just don’t have the money after paying for continuing increases in necessities like gasoline, food and health insurance…living paycheck to paycheck just to pay their bills… People that were making good salaries before the Bush administration took over.
If they want to spend that kind of money, then set up a fund like FEMA
1. Businesses could apply for low interest loans from the fund instead of a financial fat cat. That clears up Bush’s argument about ‘credit freeze’. I saw a lot of banking commercials after the speech; credit doesn’t seem to be a problem.
2. Allow retirement funds to buy Treasury bonds at the same interest rate they were getting in the stock market. Retirement funds should not be in the stock market at all! That clears up Bush’s argument about retirement funds.
3. And for the homeowners who are defaulting…for those who had unforeseen occurrences like cancer or lost their job due to ‘downsizing’, grant them another loan on a different house they can afford, not keep their current homes.
The rest–I think the number of reported foreclosures is bogus. People are taking bankruptcy not due to their home mortgage, but the economy. The change in the bankruptcy laws came down on ordinary people, not the fat cats who risk their money (which is really someone else’s money) and expect to still make their outrageous bonuses and salaries. I don’t know of anyone who is foreclosing. I think this is just another excuse (like gas prices) to blame it on ‘the people’ instead of those making millions.
Let the ‘market’ take care of the financial institutions. There is a reason they call it, ‘playing’ the stock market. Investors, foreign or not, knew they were taking a risk.
Nothing is guaranteed except death and taxes. AND those taxes shouldn’t be going to a fat cat.

The headline and the story don’t match. The finding wasn’t that R’s won the vote. When yeas beat nays, it says the chair had “prematurely” ended voting. When voting should have been ended, the nays still beat the yeas 217 to 211.
So how are the Republican yeas supposed to have won this again?

McCain suspended campaign update
John McCain will appear on all three network newscasts tonight, a top aide said.
McCain is at the White House meeting with President Bush, Barack Obama and congressional leaders now and will tape interviews with NBC, ABC and CBS after the West Wing session.
McCain also appeared in a taped interview last night with Katie Couric on CBS.

Seems the Democrats have been doing more damage to this Great country and trying to pawn it off on everyone else.
Even with the economy crisis and oil crisis they did not seem concerned as they should of been.
The majority rule of Democrats in congress has hampered this country more than it helped.
Time to heed the warning now.
Mr Obama is still more concerned about himself, his image and him getting votes than anything else.
Seems the Democrats have got the peolple and country to where they want it right now. Could it be part of their winning at any cost.

Barack has had plenty of time to prepare for the debate while McCain was negotiating a resolution to the economic crisis. Obama would rather the economy dive than him fail in a debate. If he’s such an amazing politica force, why doesn’t his record reflect it? Where’s the beef, Barry?

HERO – Are you aware that DAVIS is STILL getting money from Freddie Mac – Davis, as in one of McCain’s top advisors – and a longtime lobbyist? Remember the good old days when John McCain was a maverik who fought lobbyists? I miss them too. Now he surrounds himself with them – including some of hte scummiest – like Charlie Black. I wouldn’t bring up ties to Freddie Mac and Presidential candidates – John McCain is in bed with them.

According to reports I’ve read Davis left his company in 2005 and has not received any income, stock or options from his firm since he left.
The same article said while he was with the firm he never lobbied on behalf of Fannie Mae.
I could be wrong but I believe Davis stopped being a registered lobbyist in 2005 as well.
I do know his old company continued to get payments from Fannie Mae after he left.
Do you have any info to the contrary?

Economic experience – Obama read a book
- Never ran a company
- Never ran a group other than an election campaign
- Never ran a governmental entity ie town, state where he had to meet a budget.
International experience
- Majored in International Relations
- unknown what his grades were, transcripts not released.
- Was a child in Indonesia
- Met foreign leaders on a whirlwind trip
- Committee chairman of Nato and held no meetings
His economic experience ranks ranks below Palins and international experience just a smidge above Palins.
But Obama does excel with a teleprompter better than any other.

The numbers you give don’t match your headline. It does seem like the vote was miscounted, but not that a definitive “yea” or “nay” could be reached.

House Republicans refused to support the Henry Paulson/Chris Dodd compromise bailout plan yesterday afternoon, even after the New York Times reported that Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson got down on one knee to beg Nancy Pelosi to compromise. One of the sticking points, as Senator Lindsey Graham explained later, wasn’t a lack of begging but a poison pill that would push 20% of all profits from the bailout into the Housing Trust Fund — a boondoggle that Democrats in Congress has used to fund political-action groups like ACORN and the National Council of La Raza:
Posted by: WakeUpPeople | September 26, 2008, 11:06 am 11:06 am
And this deal that’s on the table now is not a very good deal. Twenty percent of the money that should go to retire debt that will be created to solve this problem winds up in a housing organization called ACORN that is an absolute ill-run enterprise, and I can’t believe we would take money away from debt retirement to put it in a housing program that doesn’t work.
