Bush Cancels Fundraiser to Focus on Economy
ABC News’ Jennifer Duck Reports: The White House announced Tuesday that President Bush will postpone a scheduled fundraiser in Florida Wednesday so that he can focus on the economy, according to White House Press Secretary Dana Perino.
"The President will attend his scheduled meetings tomorrow in New York and will then return to Washington," said Perino. "His travel to Florida has been postponed so he can concentrate fully on the situation in the financial markets and the legislation before Congress. We will let you know if there are any further updates to the President’s schedule."
Bush said Tuesday during a meeting with President Zardari of Pakistan in New York that he feels "confident" Congress will pass Treasury Secretary Paulson’s "robust" bailout plan.
"The Republicans and Democrats will come together to get this piece of legislation passed," said Bush, "which is necessary to address the financial situation and provide a rescue plan to make sure that there’s some stability in the markets."
Bush also cancelled fundraiser appearances in Alabama and Florida last Thursday due to his concern about the state of the financial markets. Vice President Dick Cheney attended the Republican fundraisers in his place.

Everything that is old is new again [only 10 years off]:
Americathon -
The year is 1998. The world is completely out of oil and America is deep in debt thanks to dimwit President Chet Roosevelt (Ritter) who was elected by a TV worshiping public merely because of the family name. Sound familiar? Scary! Anyway, Chet and media specialist Riegert decide to hold a 30 day telethon to save America (home to the first gay state North Dakota!). To host it they choose washed up actor Monty Rushmore (Korman), who is now the pill popping star of a cross dressing sitcom called “Both Mother and Father.” But sneaky Presidential aide Vincent Vanderhoff (Willard) wants this to fail so the Hebarabs (the Jews and Arabs have joined forces) can take over America. His plan? Booking only ventriloquist acts. Whew!

He may as well go to the fundraiser… He’s so useless he’d just be in the way in D.C. at this point.

Bush is U.S. Economic Enemy #1 so even Republicans in Florida do not want him around. Being a lame duck, Bush has little to say beyond “Paulson is taking care of everything.” Faithful Republicans, stand-up and let us hear you praise for the worst President of modern times, modeling another great Republican, Herbert Hover.

NYT today:
One of the giant mortgage companies at the heart of the credit crisis paid $15,000 a month to a firm owned by Senator John McCain’s campaign manager from the end of 2005 through last month, according to two people with direct knowledge of the arrangement. The disclosure contradicts a statement Sunday night by Mr. McCain that the campaign manager, Rick Davis, had no involvement with the company for the last several years. Mr. Davis’s firm received the payments from the company, Freddie Mac, until it was taken over by the government this month along with Fannie Mae, the other big mortgage lender whose deteriorating finances helped precipitate the cascading problems on Wall Street, the people said.
They said they did not recall Mr. Davis doing much substantive work for the company in return for the money, other than speak to a political action committee composed of high-ranking employees in October 2006 on the coming midterm congressional elections. They said Mr. Davis’s his firm, Davis & Manafort, was kept on the payroll because of Mr. Davis’s close ties to Mr. McCain, the Republican presidential nominee, who was widely expected by 2006 to run again for the White House.
Mr. Davis took a leave from Davis & Manafort for the duration of the campaign, but as a partner and equity-holder continues to share in its profits.

Obama and Ayers Pushed Radicalism On Schools (Media Yawns)
“Mr. Ayers is the founder of the “small schools” movement (heavily funded by CAC), in which individual schools built around specific political themes push students to “confront issues of inequity, war, and violence.” He believes teacher education programs should serve as “sites of resistance” to an oppressive system. (His teacher-training programs were also CAC funded.) The point, says Mr. Ayers in his “Teaching Toward Freedom,” is to “teach against oppression,” against America’s history of evil and racism, thereby forcing social transformation.
The Obama campaign has cried foul when Bill Ayers comes up, claiming “guilt by association.” Yet the issue here isn’t guilt by association; it’s guilt by participation. As CAC chairman, Mr. Obama was lending moral and financial support to Mr. Ayers and his radical circle. That is a story even if Mr. Ayers had never planted a single bomb 40 years ago.”

I do wish you guys could come up with something other than the same attempts to connect Obama with various individuals that have been analyzed to death and put to bed long ago. Why don’t you instead try something new, like looking at the real issues and stating why you support or oppose them? Gee, that would be novel, wouldn’t it? Except the problem is, that regardless of what issue you look at, there is very little that you can stand on to support a McCain/Palin ticket, and have to resort to the tactics of fear and misinformation.

Most of the BS these people claim as “Fact” comes from the book “Obama Nation”, written by Jerome Corsi. This is the same guy that claims the world trade tower collapsed because it had been laced with explosives when constructed! He is a loon with a long reputation of being a nut conspiracy theorist. Some people will cling to just about anything, no matter how crazy, to keep from shattering their precious world view. It makes for great amusement watching them contort and flop about, but it also places a great danger on the country when they are given the ability to decide our countries future direction by voting.

Along with many, I enjoyed comments by former President Bill Clinton on David Letterman last night.
Among other topics, President Clinton educated Letterman and the audience on what has happened to the economy and why.
Most obvious was that President Clinton did not place blame on any one party but rather on failed government policy.
And, President Clinton did not invoke the “sky is falling” economic stance of Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reid, and the rest of the do-nothings.
Rather, President Clinton said that the United States has met its challenges for over 200 years and is strong enough to solve its economic problems.
When referring to the Presidential candidates, President Clinton mentioned “McCain or Obama” rather than “Obama or McCain.”
Or, as I put it…
Anybody But Obama…

Well, in case you haven’t noticed, the only one who seems to be running around flapping their wings, developing “Plans” to solve the crisis, unconstitutionally calling for the firing of the President of the SEC, and doing complete reversals of prior positions regarding regulation is.. McCain.
– When referring to the Presidential candidates, President Clinton mentioned “McCain or Obama” rather than “Obama or McCain.” –
Oh yeah.. that’s a blazing endorsement.. or perhaps he was just being “alphabetically” correct! Talk about a silly observation!

A letter from an American Mother Message 2007/03/16
Mr. President
I am writing you this letter as a mother who her son was sent to Iraq forcibly and has been taken away from her for ever.
You may know it or not that most of the Americans do not like Bush. He is (….). We do not recognize him as our president. He entered the white house by cheating. He is not a legitimate president. Even a great number of American mothers who their sons were not sent to Iraq, are agree with me. They know Bush as (….).
Mr. President! As much as we hate war, we hate Bush and his gangs! I want you know that if you intend to attack U.S., most of the people are like me here. We can’t stop his stupid acts for now, but I am writing this letter, because I know you as a pious and logical man.
I am not scared of Bush and his gangs or his security forces, but since I do not want them to interrupt my battle and my fellow Americans’ struggle against this administration, please keep my name and identification anonymous.
With best wishes
WHY? WHY DID THIS WOMAN’S SON NEED TO DIE? NOW SHE MUST BE FORCED TO PAY AS A TAXPAYER BECAUSE YOUR REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT JUST REALIZED HE BROKE OUR COUNTRY?
WHO DO YOU ALL REPUBLICANS WANT US TO VOTE FOR? PLEASE TELL US SO WE CAN VOTE FOR THE OPPOSITE.

Don’t forget that these are government sponsored enterprises. Fannie Mae is actually the Federal National Mortgage Association, and Freddie Mac is actually the Federal Home Mortgage Corporation…note the ‘federal’ in both names.
They are handled through the Treasury department, do not have to pay taxes nor answer to the SEC. So, like the Great Depression stock exchange and in the case of Enron, much banking on money that just wasn’t there, but with exceptionally more risk. Throw in some multi-billion dollar accounting flubs and what do you expect to happen?
Fannie Mae is a Socialist New Deal enterprise started under FDR’s administration that did not go the way of the CCC or the WPA. Freddie Mac was created in the early ’70s to thwart accusations about Fannie Mae having a monopoly on secondary mortgage holdings.
Fannie Mae, interestingly, was taken off the Federal Budget by Pres. Johnson because of the debt of the war in Vietnam that he was in the process of escalating.
It is hard to say whether or not these GSEs were needed at all, or if they were necessary. People lost their homes during the Depression anyway as they are now. What happened to the idea of a local or regional bank holding the mortgages? It would seem that in order to get non-GS types to run these they could profit off of rate differences, while all along knowing that the Treasury Dept. would ultimately back them.
So, to blame Bush, Clinton, Obama or McCain for this is ludicrous.
Just another example of a socialist program that just doesn’t work, and creates disaster when forming a hybrid partnership with free enterprise.

Calm down, ace…
Your “American” concern is clouding your judgment…
And, thanks for reinforcing my point on the economy…
Having a plan (as compared to waiting to see what your opponent does or the teleprompter tells you), as John McCain does, is indeed preferable to the circle jerk the head Democrats are engaging in…
As for President Clinton’s comments, I remember Hillary Clinton said that she would “work her heart out” for Obama if he was the Democrat nominee…
Well, I haven’t really seen either of the Clintons “working their hearts out” for Obama/Biden…
By the way, although I did support President Clinton, I am not a Democrat or a Republican…
The candidates from the two parties represent bad and worse, with Obama being the worst…

Mark this day down. Today — last night, actually — the New York Times and Roll Call reported (it’s hard to see who was first) what may be the biggest political story of the campaign. How big? John McCain might have to fire his campaign manager. Big enough?
The story is this. The lobbying firm of Rick Davis, the manager, was being paid $15,000 a month by Freddie Mac until last month. That fact is a direct contradiction of words McCain had spoken Sunday night. At that time, responding to a Times story being prepared for Monday’s paper revealing that Davis had been the head of a lobbying consortium led by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae until 2005, McCain said Davis had done no further work for either mortgage giant.
Someone’s lying – either Davis to McCain, or McCain to the public

This financial crisis was so severe Bush administration officials briefed Congress last Friday and they worked on a plan through the weekend. According to this blog, it was not until Tuesday that Bush himself canceled a fundraiser to get back to Washington to work on the crisis. Then McCain does the same thing the next day. Original leadership my posterior.
