Bush to Speak to Republican Convention

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos reports:  After skipping the opening day of the Republican National Convention to personally check the emergency response to Hurricane Gustav, President George W. Bush will keep his appointment with the party faithful.

Bush will speak to the RNC Tuesday in St. Paul, one day after the convention opened to an abbreviated schedule due to the storm.

Hurricane Gustav hit the Gulf Coast almost three years to the day after Hurricane Katrina devastated the area, and left deep political wounds on Bush and his administration.

Eager to demonstrate the lessons learned from the Katrina criticism, Bush visited evacuee centers in Texas today. And Republican candidate John McCain spent the day at a disaster relief agency in Ohio and packed boxes of cleaning supplies to be sent to the relief effort.

After a day off to focus on the storm, the party will resume in St Paul with a complete convention program Tuesday.

Speakers expected in the primetime schedule, 10-11 pm ET, include: Sen. Joe Lieberman, Independent of Connecticut and Al Gore’s 2000 campaign runningmate on the Democratic ticket, and former Sen. Fred Thompson of R-Tenn.

How much did Racist Obama have to pay Rev Wright to put a muzzle on his racist mouth

Posted by: hamburter | September 1, 2008, 11:13 pm 11:13 pm

Over a year the media sat on the story that Obama attended the WHITE HATE church for over 20 years. This would of changed the election in IOWA with out a doubt. But less than a week for them to report a teenager got pregnant. This proves why they did not report the sex scandal that J Edwards had. The media is so far left they are sicking

hamburter,
Wow, a lot of sour grapes there buddy…
You are off subject there though. We are all talking about McDummy’s pick for VP, Sarah Beauty Queen Palin!!
She is the laughing stock around all of America’s water coolers and the gift that just keeps on giving!!
We LOVE HER!!!

Hamburter,
Why don’t you stop making your stupid and meaningless racist comments you damn biggot. It is too bad that McCain is going to lose by a landslide. You will get over it in due course.

The levees aren’t holding up well. There was plenty of time, 3 years, to address the problem. But of course, there’s enormous relief that the losses and problems were far from some expectations. I’m very happy to hear George Bush will be at the RNC, and I hope sincerely that Cheney will show also.

what happened to all that experience talk? oh thats right your talking points have been lambasted because now you realize your guy made a vp on a political gamble, a political gimmick… and after months of the attacks the message that the campaign has polished for you people was completley over written by such a crazy vp pick.
I mean its not bad enough that he just seemed to wake up one day and pick the vp for his candidacy (this shows judgment i might remind you), but at least he could have had SOME vetting done before the pick… like maybe on wednesday he could have done some digging around instead of… well today

CNN just had Obama on their network responding to what people have been saying … that he has less executive experience than Palin …
CNN is not a trustworthy channel. I was told that for many years but I did not believe that. I used to watch CNN everyday … it is NOW that I understand what my colleagues have been telling me.
They have told me that CNN would pose issues with questions as if they were seeking the truth. But what they present after that is all one sided … e.g in this election, everything they say is PRO-OBAMA.
So tune CNN OFF … I now tune to FOX NEWS … and instead of being a Rush Limbaugh critic which I was for years, CNN has turned me into a Rush Limbaugh listener … IMAGINE THAT … !!!
And do you wonder why statistics show Rush Limbaugh’s radio show is gaining in listeners every year … Rush Limbaugh, you have CNN to thank for that .

Glad to stand with the Republicans this time around. Obamamania is so totally senseless, baseless. It is just totally crazy .. As if we have all lost our minds.

Its great to hear that our honorable president will participate in the RNC, he has done a great job thru the years in keeping us as safe as possible, my hat is off for the man. Thank you kindly Mr. President for your integrity and sound judgement, I would have voted for you again if it were possible.
About NoBama, well, is not about him being kinda’ black, is about little or no experience. McCain sweeps the floor with Hussein’s experience. Okay, I also admit that I will never vote for anything even remotely connected to islam. I hate islam and Ayatollah crap and koran crap and Muhamad crap.

Looks like Obama didn’t vet Biden. His brother and his LOBBYIST son (I thought lobbyists were evil according to Obama) are being SUED for HEDGEFUND fraud.
Obama has bad judgment.

Posted by: Jo | September 2, 2008, 12:38 am 12:38 am

Yes the protests at the RNC are bad. A bunch of Obama supporters smashing windows and hurling sandbags at buses of Cub Scouts.
Impressive bunch those leftwingers. You all must be so proud.

President Bush’s presence at the RNC only serves as a reminder to us of how many mistakes can be made in 8 years and how many opportunities have been lost because the wrong man was in the White House.
It is in part because of these mistakes–and Sen. McCain’s willingness to go along with them–that I will be voting for Sen. Obama, one of the best candidates of any party ever to campaign for President of the United States of America.

Mike, yes not all has been perfect but we all know Bush is a hell of a lot better than Al Gore or Kerry would have been.
And since Obama can’t even crack 50% that means Bush not as unpopular as you all think.

Now Dumbya has to try to save the day when they didn’t want the idiot loser at their convention anyway… I am still laughing… it just doesn’t get much better than this. I just can’t wait to see the looks on the neocons faces when Obama wins by a LANDSLIDE!! Even white Republicans in my family who never voted for a Democrat are voting for him. They are so disgusted with what Bush and his cronies has done to this country, and they know that McCain is more of the same!

Posted by: Janie | September 2, 2008, 1:08 am 1:08 am

Serz,
You say you can’t wait until Palin and Biden debate? That she is an expert and will knock him under the table?
Why then, was your unqualified VP candidate reported as praising Senator Obama’s Energy Plan?
“We in Alaska feel that crunch and are taking steps to address it right here at home,” Palin’s press release read. “This is a tool that must be on the table to buy us time until our long-term energy plans can be put into place. We have already enjoyed the support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, and it is gratifying to see Senator Obama get on board.”
Clearly no republican could EVER think highly of something that we evil democrats would put forward!
Id love to shake McCain’s hand for effectively handing President Obama the election. He could not have made a worse political gamble!

Posted by: Ben | September 2, 2008, 1:08 am 1:08 am

Hey, all you “intellectual” Republicans–
all you have to do is watch poor (figuratively speaking, of course!)Cindy McCain attempting to speak today at RNC, and the especially SAD spectacle of Tim Pawlenty (who appeared ready to cry any moment) attempting to defend Sarah Palin to know what John McCain thinks of the American voter’s IQ—not much!
President and First Lady Obama it will be—and how SWEET it will be—-(just check the reservations for inaugural festivities—not many for Republicans! (it’s a done deal, my redneck friends—just ask Andrea Mitchell!)

I used to teach American History and my specialty was the Civil War. One aspect of Civil War combat that I was never able to grasp personally was the breadth and depth of hatred that could compel large groups of men to stand — sometimes within a stone’s throw of each other — and fire large lead balls at each other or to stab, club, bite and otherwise maim and kill each other hand-to-hand. Was it simple discipline or something more? Reading the comments above filled with bigotry, class and race hatred and simple ignorant prejudice has given me part of he answer. Were some of the more virulent commenters standing across the street from me I believe I could happily pull the lanyard of a cannon loaded with chain, nails, buckshot, old horseshoes and anything else that could be lethal and turn those social pimples into a fine red pulp. War is bad in that it kills off a disproportionate number of brave souls, but it does have the advantage of ridding society of some of the more unfortunate genetic and social misfits.

Whatever Bush says, no one (those with a working brain) would or should listen. The man believes in and practices LIES. That’s all the GOP is about and that’s all they have to stand on.

Obamacropolis!
The evangelicals are rallying behind him in battleground states, that will give him decisive victory come November!
By October, the October surprise is the return of soldiers by brigades in those states; marching in major streets in cities of major tv outlets! Can you imagine the emotional impact it will bring out to the viewers, their patriotism, and change of hearts to the President and to the new commander-in-chief John McCain?
Plus by late Mid October, well witness the massive bombing blitz of the Iran nuclear sites?
Guys, have fun with the remaining days of summer!

Only those drinking the KoolAid could think a vindictive bitchy little beauty queen whose family can’t even follow what she forces on her should be a heartbeat away (from a 72-80 year old cancer survivor) from being ruler of the free world. And McCain questions OBAMA’S judgement? There are probably just enough idiots out there in this country who are happy to give the finger to anyone and choke their very selves along with an entire nation for another four years of incompetence.

Posted by: joesy | September 2, 2008, 2:58 am 2:58 am

Rev Wright didn’t vote with Bush 95% of the time. That is, he didn’t do anything to hurt the people of this country. He just ran his mouth off a few times. Everyone I know has the same problem. Same goes with you if you are honest.

Posted by: stanjz | September 2, 2008, 3:03 am 3:03 am

The main difference between McCain/Bush supporters and Obama supporters? The facts are on Obama’s side. Hope and change will trump fear and lies this time. McCain can only resort to attacks because he has absolutely nothing to run on.

Imagine That, it sounds like you were more interested in finding a news outlet to feed you Pro-McCain BS than an outlet that was actually objective.

What ceases to amaze me is the fact that everyone plays into “The President is Going to Change the Nation,” but gives two damns who they elect as Senetors, Congressmen, or even local government.

Posted by: RB | September 2, 2008, 3:19 am 3:19 am

Is it just me, or are there others out there that absoultely CRINGE when they hear either George W or Sarah Palin speak? I’m not talking about what they say, I’m talking about their fingers-on-a-chalkboard voices. I have no problem with McCain and no problem with Obama. But to hear Sarah Palin speak is like (and though it probably sounds like a joke I sadly don’t mean it as one) listening to The Church Lady on some parody comedy show. And of course George W is like listening to a monkey. Heck, I’d rather listen to Ted Stevens talk than either George W or Palin. If this country wants to practice torture, all they have to do is tie someone to a chair and make them listen to an hour of either of these people’s voices…

I think it’s funny how Bush and McCain think their token gestures undo the fact that they horribly botched Katrina. I also believe that one of the above posters might be right in suggesting that Bush is using his speech to draw attention away from McCain’s misguided VP pick. All in all, the republican party is still in the republican party and I agree with only a fraction of their policy positions. Bush has so aptly demonstrated how flawed the republican platform is that I find it hard to believe that anyone would vote for a continuance of their failures. I had respect for McCain prior to this election, but looking back it was only because he was a celebrity. I enjoyed his interviews on the talk shows and thought him funny, but the presidency of the United States is no laughing matter and he has turned this election into a mockery of our country, our people and our government. Now I am not only voting against the failed republican agenda, but against McCain.

Posted by: Failed Policies | September 2, 2008, 3:59 am 3:59 am

Who blotched Katrina? Was it Bush, FEMA, State Government, Local Government? It is only fair to spread some of the blame around. Complete failure on all levels government is a more correct statement. It was not an individual’s fault, nor a particular political party’s fault, rather many people’s fault with different political views.

Too bad I’ll miss that. I am sure they will replay it. Why would they let somebody who butcher’s the English language speak at the convention. His approval rating is non existent. They should put the Republican convention on the Comedy channel. Is he going to speak about his successes? That will take about 2 seconds.

Don’t worry for all of the Obama followers that are being so cruel to Palin and her daughter, the rest of us will remember this when Rev. Jeremiah Wright makes his comeback next month.

You people on both sides are showing your true ignorance. Can’t you people stay on point without getting personal. If you don’t like either candidate then attack them on their position not on their race, if one of their children made a mistake because in both cases people don’t have much control over either situation.

I’m surprised because he is Obama’s mentor and all. Why didn’t Obama invite him?

McCain’s poor choice as VP only underlines why I am voting for Obama. Bush has taken this country to the sheer pits of hell with his stupid war, indifference to human life during Katrina and other examples, his giving the oil companies carte blanche and playing lip service to the enviornment and alternative energies, his killing of our civil liberties, his signing statements, his horrid Supreme Court Justices…everything the guy has done has been against the citizens of the USA and they want 4 more years with John McCain? I don’t think so!!

Sorry Jo,
Ain’t gonna happen. McCain is toast and so definately is Palin. She’ll be gone within the next two weeks. And what polls have you been looking at. Obama is up by 8 in the recent Gallup, 6 on CBS and even the conservative Rasmussen has him ahead by 4. McCain has NEVER been ahead in any of the polls and the closest that he’s come was ONE day he was TIED with Obama in Gallup/CNN poll. This only after Obama took a weeks long vacation and McCain had the media all to himself during that time and still couldn’t pull ahead. So whose the weak one now Jo? More importantly, Obama is ahead in enough states to give him a victory in the Electoral College which manners the most. Most of you ignorant GOP’ers should know that by now being how you stole it in Florida back in 2000 and in Ohio in 2004. Get used to saying President Obama and Vice President Biden. HAHAHAHA

These so called evangelicals who are really political cronies hiding behind the cloth love the Republican Party more than they love God. They don’t have any family values. But we all know if that were Michelle Obama’s or Hillary Clinton’s pregnant teenage daughter Tony Perkins and others would be pointing a finger at them and saying what a poor example they are setting. They would be raking these mothers across the hotest of coals.
As a born again, bible-toting Christian, I’m offended by these hypocrites

This entire Republican ticket is bizarre, but I’m sure the nutball rightwingers will rant and rave about it for decades. Just like they still love to take shots at Carter and praise their most demented president, Reagan.
Good luck with the Bush thing. I’m sure he’ll draw millions of viewers. Assuming there isn’t a hoedown that night.

Hamburter stated that: Over a year the media sat on the story that Obama attended the WHITE HATE church for over 20 years. This would have changed the election in IOWA without a doubt. But less than a week for them to report a teenager got pregnant. This proves why they did not report the sex scandal that J Edwards had. The media is so far left they are sicking……Thanks for laying out the facts and the truth, which many DNC nominee supporters are too blind to see. Racism is not welcome in this country against any group. For the DNC presidential nominee to support this church for many years, is disturbing and shows he is not the leader we need. In addition, the DNC creates divisiveness in the campaign with his foaming at the mouth rhetoric, and now we see the DNC Operation Chaos inflicting violence on 80-year old RNC convention attendees. Our nation needs to elect a RNC majority now, after years of enduring the DNC majority and their filibuster tactics to erode progress.

Sam writes: My friends who are white totally like Obama but will not vote for him….Please stop distilling this into a black and white racist issue; it is not. Rev Wright did say racist comments, even the DNC nominee finally acknowledged this. However, it is because the DNC nominee has little experience, is the most liberal senator, and claimed Rev Wright as his spiritual advisor for more than 10 years, that people will vote for the RNC. We can not afford to have on the job training for the unqualified DNC candidate. Try to see the facts as other see them, rather than to get into a blind rage about racism. Just wondering why you continue to stay around your known racist friends and maybe you are blinded to the facts by your own guilt about your friends’ and your support of their racism. Do you consider your bigot racist friends – your spiritual leaders? It’s uncanny how the DNC nominee supporters are trying to transfer their own racism onto others who they don’t know. This is stemming from the DNC divisiveness campaign. Stop the DNC mindgames, and move over to the RNC where the focus is on positive steps to help our nation.

I am sorry people. Ignorance will get you nowhere and obviously has trusting Bush the last two elections.
We live in a corporate dictatorship under these people. Under Republicans it is proven that the middle class shrinks and the rich and poor grow further apart. WAKE UP> the scare tactics of Karl Rove and Rush, sure work just like you all believed that Iraq was responsible for 9/11 – i hate to say that is just plain stupid and ignorant. As is believing the lies of the Karl Rove machine. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU NEVER WILL. AS LONG AS YOU KEEP SUPPLYING PEOPLE TO FIGHT IN IRAQ AND SUPPORTING 10 BILIION PER MONTH. What is the idiocy in saying Obama is going to take us into a depression when it is only propaganda that has denied we are already in one.
FOX NEWS come on , murdoch owned. Karl Rove a political analyst. He is the one with the Nixon club in high school, the one who attacked McCain when he was running against Bush in the Primaries, bringing up his wife’s mental problems. It is the Republicans that play dirty and bring LIES into it, write books with LIES and because there is a population of sheep out there that love to be afraid and are afraid already of anything different……believe all of it, some people love to hate. Some people think jesus carries a weapon.
Sorry to say but you are the people who will drive me out of this country not the politicians. The last two elections showed the ignorance of a very desperate white populace clinging to the glory days of racism and faded glory.
Hate me, I am sure you will but I pray to GOD, one that loves and one that does not force women who are raped to have babies and one that is inclusive and includes science and all of nature.

Katrina was a wakeup call, exposing the triumph of ideology and cronyism over competence and objectivity. It wasn’t long after Katrina that we began to realize that Iraq was botched using exactly the same recipe for disaster. FEMA used to be one of the best federal agencies before Bush turned it into a sinecure for incompetent political hacks. There is certainly plenty of blame to spread around over the damage caused by Katrina, but it was the singular event that finally made most people realize that Emperor Bush had no clothes.

Sarah Palen has more executive experiance than Obama and Biden combined. She has run a 10 billion dollar state with 24 thousand workers and she did that for 2 yrs- thats two yrs longer than obama or biden have done.
All of her experience is executive. Obama has none of this- it is really twisted logic for BO to try to say what he has done on the camp. trail is equal to running a state or a county or a town of any size. He didnt run his camp. he had someone do it for him- that doesnt equate with giving the orders to make something important happen. Hell he doesnt even write his own speeches, he can hardly talk without a telepromter.
this statement from a website – “By the way as I remember listening to Senator Obama give his acceptance speech.
It is stunning. It is audacious. It lifts word-for-word and paragraph-by-paragraph from Senator Clinton’s stump speech, well actually a number of them. When Senator Clinton is not being quoted directly (without attribution), almost every idea Senator Clinton advanced during her campaign.
It would be one thing if Senator Obama had been quoting Senator Clinton with attribution and using her ideas throughout the primary season. Then, this speech would not be stunningly breathtakingly audacious. It would be a speech given by the person who would have been the better person to run against John McCain, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton; possibly it would have been given by Senator Clinton’s running mate, who might have been Senator Obama. And it would have been a speech that would have been not only inspiring but more importantly credible.”

I think Nov 4th John McCain will be the first man to cast his vote to Mr Obama, now Mr John McCain himself knows that he has fail and that the best choice for the job in White House should be Obama and Biden combined, i am so happy that Mr McCain and Sarah Palen has know this truth that they are not qulify to lead great and special people of America. Thank God for Obama and Biden. VOTE them for progress and greater American value. or vote John McCain and Sarah Palen so that all our daughter could do is to go into prostution in some even poor country just to make living. save america, love american VOTE wisely VOTE OBAMA/ BIDEN.
