Chris Rock on Alcee Hastings on Sarah Palin

Comedian Chris Rock was asked to weigh in on some odd comments by Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., about Gov. Sarah Palin.

As ABC News’ Teddy Davis reported earlier this week, Hastings told voters on Wednesday that "if Sarah Palin isn’t enough of a reason for you to get over whatever your problem is with Barack Obama, then you damn well had better pay attention. Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. So, you just think this through."

Hastings spokesman David Goldenberg told ABC News that he was trying to argue that Palin is an "extremely conservative woman who is out of touch with mainstream America."

On CNN’s "Larry King Live," Rock was asked about the comments.

KING: Congressman Alcee Hastings of Florida, I knew a long time ago when I lived there, who is both black and a Democrat, is warning against Palin because he says, quote, anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. That a little rough?

ROCK: Who is this guy?

KING: Alcee Hastings.

ROCK: I never heard of him.

KING: He was a judge. He was indicted.

ROCK: Don’t compare me to a moose.

KING: No. He was not —

ROCK: Are you calling me a moose?

KING: No, I’m not calling you a moose. That’s what he said.

ROCK: Who is this guy?

KING: He’s a congressman.

ROCK: Are you making news or reporting the news? Let’s find the craziest black quote we can find —

KING: OK.

ROCK: And just —

KING: What he is trying to say is that a woman who —

ROCK: Who compares — what the hell do I have to do with a moose, Larry?

KING: No, no, he says that any woman who totes guns and strips moose, that’s her —

ROCK: Right.

KING: Can’t care too much about Jews and blacks.

ROCK: Larry, what the hell does this have to do — mooses or moose. I don’t know.

KING: Mooses?

ROCK: I don’t know. I didn’t go to a fancy school, man. But — yes. She does kill moose. She does kill them.

KING: Yes.

ROCK: Yes, I know.

KING: Do you know anybody in your community who kills moose? That’s the point.

ROCK: Every time I see her with a dead moose, I’m like, why is Michael Vick in jail? Isn’t killing animals bad?

KING: You have a point.

Why would Larry King try to explain the logic in an obviously illogical statement? And why would he ask Chris Rock about it — just because he is a member of “that community?”
I’ve never watched Larry King, but I assumed he was more intelligent than that.

Hastings….once again, an Obama supporter playing the “race” card.
BTW, in case Larry didn’t bother to enlighten Mr. Rock, moose hunting, with a license, is legal.
Dog fighting, still illegal, under any circumstances, in all 50 (or 57) states.

Kudos to Chris Rock! That was a dumb question on Larry King’s part. The only thing that Chris Rock appears to have in common with Alcee Hastings is his race. Since Larry King admits to having known Hastings for a period of time, he was in a far better position to clarify the statement than Chris Rock.

I’ve always thought the same. What’s the difference between killing a deer and killing a dog?
It’s killing a animal… PERIOD. This is not an excuse for Micheal Vick b/c I believe he belongs in jail but this rule should go to everyone who kills deer etc to hang on their walls.
Unless you’re going to eat the animal… DON’T KILL IT.

The last two days of the campaign confirmed that McCain -Plain are the most inadequate people to run this country. If Obama was O’Brian and he was white and not black,
He would not have had any trouble winning the election.

The remark of Rep. Hastings about Gov. Palin toting guns and stripping moose was vile and reprehensible. It had nothing to do with hunting moose for food. It was a scurilous attack on Gov. Palin, accusing her of being a racist, anti-semitic and capable of conducting a lynching. Comments like this are race bating hate speak. He should be impeached for inciting racial hatred.

Larry King is an idiot, evidenced by this line of questioning. What Hastings said was completely inappropriate—but why would have ask Chris Rock about it. As Rock aptly noted, he didn’t go to some “fancy school” but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out the only reason he was asked his opinion is to create fake news, a fake controversy and because they are both Black.
I can’t believe Larry King still has a job. He is a useless hack.

While I don’t think there’s a comparison between legitimate moose hunting and Vick’s repulsive treatment of those fighting dogs, it IS disgusting to read about Gov. Palin’s efforts to encourage slob hunting of wolves (picking them off from the air using high-powered rifles, yeah there’s plenty of sport in that), and her efforts to refuse protection to polar bears. No wonder that the ASPCA for the first time in history made an endorsement in the US Presidential race, against Palin/McCain.

I guess you don’t go camping in snake country too often. On the other hand, just like chicken, they’re mighty tasty. And the next time a bear or a cougar or bobcat wanders down into your neighborhood, call a lawyer to argue with it. Unless it’s a coyote. They speak the same language as lawyers.
You need to learn a bit about animal conservation. Controlled hunting is a vital part of animal control.

He’s dummer than a high school graduate. McCain doesn’t need anyone to advise him on a debate but Obama needed three days. At first Obama didn’t want the debate then he changed his mind. Obama has never won a debate yet and failed in the forum interview for giving dumb answers. And I can’t wait for the Palin/Biden debate. Alcee Hastings exposed himself as a hate monger, a racist, and, as his record shows, he is a criminal, yet he is in Congress and he is reported shooting off his mouth with that brain-dead comment!
There was a time when people would recognize someone saying those things as a mentally deranged individual and they would have ignored him. He might even be ushered into the psyche ward, heavily sedated, wrapped in a straight jacket, and placed in a locked, padded cell.
Chris Rock makes himself a fool every time he opens his mouth and spews nonsense.
Today these freaks like racist, misogynist, criminal Alcee Hastings are Democrats/Leftists/Liberals elected to congress.
Sarah Palin is a wonderful person and they cannot hold a candle to her character, her conviction, her morals, and her openness and kindness. She would make a wonderful Vice President and a wonderful President.
I do not trust Obama, Biden, or Alcee Hastings.
I do trust Sarah Palin.

1) This was not “hunting” or “sport” but predator control. Big difference.
2) But you don’t know the reason for predator control, particularly wolves, in Alaska, do you?
3) Yet you feel as if you have to make a comment anyway, eh.

Oh… you say that is ~different~. There’s a ~reason~ to put down a rabid dog that has nothing to do with eating it.
But perhaps there is also a ~reason~ to put down a wolf, eh. But you don’t stop to think about that. You just want to condemn anything to do with Palin with no regard as to reason or critical thinking.

Well that seems to have been an incredibly inane conversation, and what’s worse, it was given credence here.
I think the rape of female dogs, and fighting them against each other, til death, in the exchange of money(Betting) is a far sight worse than hunting moose for food, or killing wolves that are possibly killing a farmers cattle or livestock.
Get a grip. Hunting’s been going on for years, and since we’re putting corn in our gas tanks, what other recourse will we have, if Obama is elected?

Both Sarah Palin and Michael Vick are very cruel people who have caused extreme suffering for innocent animals.
Sarah Palin supports aerial hunting of wolves and bears despite the fact that the vast majority of Alaskans oppose it and biologist and wildlife experts believe that it’s not only barbaric but also completely unnecessary. Ms. Palin’s Administration also legalized hunting mother bears with their cubs and also hunting bears that are habituated to people like those at Katmai National Park (where tourists go to see the grizzly bears in the wild).
Michael Vick not only put his pitbulls into fight til death matches but also tortured them to death (by hanging and electrocution etc.) if they didn’t win the fight. He additionally put bait dogs (which were usually small stray dogs found in the neighborhood) in the pin with the pit bulls who the pit bulls would maul for practice.
I believe that Michael Vick is probably worse than Sarah Palin though since I don’t think that she tortured her prey animals to death in retribution.
Chris Rock is an idiot because it’s not at all funny to make jokes about the dogs that were horribly tortured to death by Michael Vick

Posted by: lucca | September 26, 2008, 9:45 pm 9:45 pm

aerial hunting of wolves: Wolves and bears are very effective and efficient predators on caribou, moose, deer and other wildlife. In most of Alaska, humans also rely on the same species for food. In Alaska’s Interior, predators kill more than 80 percent of the moose and caribou that die during an average year, while humans kill less than 10 percent.
The preditor wolf is taking the hunt away from mankind in alaska. Go to Alaska, it is a desolate, harsh environment during the winter which is usually 7-1/2 months of the year. The snow stacks to 5 feet just north of Anchorage. Like I said before, I live in Colorado, but have spent 4 winters in Alaska for recreation. I’ve driven a dog sled of six for 100 miles and seen no other wildlife. I’ve spent time in Nome. A desolate town (gee, you can see Russia on a clear day) Let’s not give the Governor of Alaska such a bad time when she talks about her state. Alaska is harsh. My eyelashes have been covered with ice while walking across a glacier lake. My butt has frozen to a stainless steel toilet seat in a Alaska State Park facility. I’ve slid down a ice covered snow slow while snow sking at a resort. It’s cold. It’s harsh. One can die on a winter day, if not properly attired. The winter is long and DARK.
Oh well, Yut Dah Hey. As Hayduke in a arizona novel (Edward Abbey/The Monkey Wrench Gang) used to say.

Isn’t it amazing that within two weeks of Sarah Palin being put on the ticket we knew everything about her personal, professional and political life including every detail of her husband and children. Yet, in the two years that the Dali-Bama has been running for president, the MSM has done essentially nothing but cover up Obama’s past.
Why have we heard nothing about Obama’s relationship with William Ayers, terrorist? Why have we heard nothing about Obama’s relationship with Frank Marshall Davis, communist? Why have we heard nothing about Obama’s relationship with ACORN, a radical leftist group that has been indicted for registering illegible voters (illegal aliens) voter fraud in 12 states? Why don’t we have full disclosure on Obama’s relationship with Rev. Wright, anti-American anti-white black liberation theologist? Why don’t we have full disclosure on Father Pfleager, radical leftist priest? Why don’t we have full disclosure on Tony Rezko, money launderer and convicted felon?

Chris Rock is smart, but maybe too smart for some people. The point being in both cases the animal is ultimately dead. Doesn’t matter what the intention of the murderer is… If you killed me for food, or just cause I’m a minority and you felt I was disposable so you did it for sport, or if you killed me so you could harvest my organs for a dying loved one… it wouldn’t matter to me why you killed me. I’d just be dead. I think both the moose and the dog just were trying to live life. So it’s OK to kill animals for food, which she can easily purchase at the store – which supports the economy, b.t.w., or she has the pleasure of killing her own food. Awesome. In the end, both animals are needlessly dead.

Hard to imagine how she was able to maintain an 85% approval rating (that’s only about 75% higher than Nancy Pelosi) Rest assured, your opinions will be given all the consideration they deserve.

i must thank you for helping me to make a final decision: i’m voting mccain / palin this year.
your comment made me realize that, as the pendulum swings back, it’s not just many average black americans around me who are racist and hostile to white Americans, but even politicians like you who have been voted into a high office by a group of Americans (neither blacks, asians, nor whites, gays, like me, nor straights, christians, jews, or muslims. just American).
i had truly thought we could’ve voted for sen. obama — that we were just about to get beyond sexism, racism, etc., and just all be Americans. but you’ve proven to me: we’re not quite ready to have a black president. like the o j simpson jury and, more recently, rev. wright, i realize from your stark comment that some people just aren’t (yet) open-minded but still truly prejudiced and hateful. we can’t have that in our white house. we need an American who is for Americans. period.
i hope that you can grow and that we can one day just think about who’d be the best candidate — not about his/her race, sexual-preference, sex or religion.

Disgraceful – Hastings should resign immediately. If someone on the Republican side had made the same comment it would be ‘off with their head’

Is it still possible at this late stage of the 21st century that some stupid white people can’t imagine that black people can be racist too?

LC,
You probably need to be paying more attention to the news, because Representative Lynn Westmoreland of Georgia referred to Obama as “uppity” last month. When pressed that he meant to say that word he said “Uppity, yeah.” In other words, “yeah I said it.”
I don’t know how old you are, but the uppity hasn’t been common parlance for like 40 years. And when it was used it usually accompanied a racial slur known as the “N-word”. So, there have been comments on the other side of the aisle that were racially charged, and you know what? Westmoreland didn’t resign from Congress or get the can.

Why in the world id Alcee Hastings doing in congress if he was impeached as a corrupt judge? Did the people who voted for him know mhe is a crook? If they did they are a bunch of idiots. Give some men a little power and they have to see how much they can get buy with. He is ma greedy man, beware of this man….
