Conservatives Embarrassed About Palin (No. 2 in a Series) — ‘She Makes George W. Bush Sound Like Cicero’

Rod Dreher, a well-respected conservative blogger, weighs in on what he calls the "Palin debacle on CBS Evening News."

"Couric’s questions are straightforward and responsible," Dreher writes. "Palin is mediocre, again, regurgitating talking points mechanically, not thinking. Palin’s just babbling. She makes George W. Bush sound like Cicero."

Recalls Dreher: "I remember the morning I woke up in my college dorm room and went in to take my final exam in my Formal Logic class. I knew I was unready. Massively unready. And now I was going to be put to the ultimate test. I sat down in Dr. Sarkar’s class and resolved to wing it. Of course I failed the exam and failed the class, because I had no idea what I was talking about. I wasn’t a bad kid, or even a stupid kid. I was just badly unprepared, and in way over my head. Seeing the Palin interview on CBS, I thought of myself in Dr. Sarkar’s exam. But see, I was a college undergraduate who had the chance to take the class again, which I did, and passed (barely). I wasn’t running for vice president of the United States."

He mentions Palin’s argument of "why having Russia next to Alaska gives her relevant foreign policy experience. I am well and truly embarrassed for her. I think she’s a good woman who might well be a great governor of Alaska. But good grief, just watch this train wreck:"

Can’t see myself voting for her now, it just feels dangerous and irresponsible.

I thought half of this country – republicans are either dumb or too coward to tell the truth of this Woman.

McCain’s campign is sort of like my computer. Everytime it crashes, I have to kick it and press the reset button.
McCain has done this two times already. Now, the next time my computer crashes, I know that Palin is gone and it is time to kick my computer and push the reset button!

if everyone in alaska can see russia from alaska, does that give them as much foreign policy experience as Palin is giving herself credit for? I guess all alaskans have more experience because they are so much closer to other countries. It not like they are isolated in a frozen wilderness away from civilization or anything.

And she’s been cramming for this without talking to the press for a month now at least. This woman is not only unqualified she’s dangerous. McCain and his campaign really have jumped the shark.

Posted by: Bob Lees | September 26, 2008, 1:02 pm 1:02 pm

Belle Starr, you are ludicrously uninformed, and just not paying attention, to say that Palin makes at least as much sense as Biden. Senator Biden may make odd comments and verbal “gaffes” fairly often – that’s entirely different from being shallow and uninformed, which Palin is. Even conservatives are commenting on her fairly shocking lack of knowledge and substance. And she’s barely even been interviewed yet!! Contrast that with Joe Biden, who’s been on record for 30 years, and WHENEVER he is interviewed demonstrates his intelligence and familiarity with the issues. Belle Starr, your comment is laughable.

lol belle star
i dont think so… she is uninformed at best
and terrible underqualified at the worst
mccain tried to pull a political white rabbit out of his hat and he did, but a few weeks later it has turned into an alligator and is eating him alive

Even George Bush looks like a genius next to Obama sans teleprompter. Want to talk about talking points? Wait until Obama opens his mouth tonight. He’ll look robotic from having to vomit his answers from his cramming. That’s what happens when you debate someone who’s values can’t be revealed, can’t be disclosed because those radical socialist values run counter with what this country is all about. That’s the problem with lying: you can never remember what you said previously. When Obama’s done with the lies, that suit will deflate and you’ll see what he’s been about – hype!

Sarah Palin is not only an embarassment to women – she’s an embarassment to small town people all across America. I live in one, I was born in one, I was raised in one, I come from working class people and I have never heard anyone who speaks like Sarah Palin. In fact, I would have gotten in trouble for talking that way. I’m talking about farmers, plumbers, housecleaners, everyday people. That is just falt out not how people in small towns in Iowa or MN or WS or Michigan or Utah talk. The woman cannot form a complete thought. She cannot form a complete sentence. And there is something in her syntax that goes way beyond the Bush syndrome. Her thinking is just flat out bizarre. Does she think she can see missiles from her front porch that Putin is idlely lobbing at Alaska? And does she think that it wouldn’t make some news down here in the lower 48? Does she really think that the bailout on Wall Street is about healthcare, like she said yesterday?
I don’t know who Dreher is, but he has the best description of Palin I’ve ever heard. She does sound like a college student who spent all semester partying and then crammed like crazy the night before an exam. Except this is real life. This is our kid’s future.

Posted by: mara | September 26, 2008, 1:05 pm 1:05 pm

I think they have the sinking feeling that it is over. Expect more of this as the days pass. George Will threw in the towel, and David Brooks gave his last harah in his write up, he still thinks the old McCain is there someplace.

Sarah Palin is an embarrassment to any intelligent person. Are folk really going to vote for someone ’cause of their ‘equipment’? I love this country! Sometimes, though, it’s pretty sad.

Posted by: John Weiss | September 26, 2008, 1:07 pm 1:07 pm

is it funny to anyone else that the person i see by mccain’s side is always lieberman? there is always this awkward gap of space, age and experience the few times i do see them together. I thinks he wishes he would have went with his gut and picked lieberman. We all know he didn’t have her as a first choice.

Posted by: Kelsey | September 26, 2008, 1:08 pm 1:08 pm

This is not funny. This is scary. Palin may be personable, photogenic, and even intelligent, but she is not ready and is way out of her league.

Posted by: no laughing matter | September 26, 2008, 1:08 pm 1:08 pm

I think the McCain campaign broke her. Her confidence is clearly rattled, and she seems like she’s been up too many nights with too much Red Bull.
Palin is a total farce. She is exhibit A for McCain’s bad judgement.
Right wing froot-loops would follow a cardboard cutout of Reagan, but the rest of us are horrified.

Posted by: Tungsten | September 26, 2008, 1:08 pm 1:08 pm

I find it incredible that her handlers didn’t alert her to the fact that Putin is no longer in charge of Russia.
We all make occasional mistakes in our everyday discussions with people. However, as Vice President, and perhaps President, Sarah Palin would be required to be in top form. I honestly don’t think she has the ability to present herself well in public – she comes off sounding like a high school sophomore, and no amount of “cramming” is going to change that.
The interviews she’s participated in have been akin to T-ball. She’s not ready for the big leagues, by any stretch of the imagination, even if Laura Bush does think she’s a “quick study”.

Posted by: tigerdaemon | September 26, 2008, 1:10 pm 1:10 pm

Earth to the leftwingers and the liberal repubs. Palin is not going anywhere other than the battleground states and get those rural voters. I love Palin ..she’s got the libs so stressed (says a lot, doesn’t it!) :o)

Posted by: Christie | September 26, 2008, 1:10 pm 1:10 pm

Can’t say I was impressed. To me, I think the campaign has done her a disservice by keeping her out of the press. They need to let Sarah be Sarah. If you look at her debate with Murkowski, she did quite well. And defeated everyone in her path. She has given numerous interviews, one just recently with Maria ???? on CNBC. She is no dummy. She knows energy better than anyone on Capital Hill. That is a big reason she was chosen and will be the focus of her job.
She’s not ready to be President and in charge on her own. (Neither is Barack Obama for that matter.) But she will do just fine as VP and with seasoning, she could even take over. John McCain will outlast most. If he could survive a plane crash and 5.5 years in the Hanoi Hilton, he’ll survive the WH just fine.
Lastly, I remind you all that the last sitting president to die in office was IN HIS 40s and it wasn’t of natural causes. And, the last “old guy” in office survived an assassin’s bullet, cancerous colon polyps, and skin cancer. He served out both terms and left us a better nation because of it.
PS to Jake-I’m not even mad at you for this one, just as long as you keep pointing out what a buffoon Joe Biden is. Gawd-what an embarrassment he must be to Barack.

Posted by: Liz | September 26, 2008, 1:12 pm 1:12 pm

belle bidens comments are small almost insignificant gaffes
its like when mccain makes the gaffes, he gets a pass because people figure he knows whats going on
if obama makes a mistake like mccain he would get hammered
now palin vs biden,
palin has no idea… zero idea or grasp of foreign policy or what direction the country should be lead
i mean her display of what she would do or thinks is right in terms of foreign policy… is scary,
biden woudlnt make that mistake
and of course palin is under more scrutiny, she is unknown, she has to prove herself
and so far
she has failed to prove herself
she has basically came out on the national scene and lied to the public, done a few interviews taht displayed her lack of knowledge of not only foreign policy but of american policy
her claims are ludacris
she would be a dangerous person to have take over for mccain if something were to happen to him
if im a women and i see someone liek palin i dont vote for her because shes a women if she looks to be incappable
remember you all have been shouting country before party
and in this case, the country cant have palin at its helm

HEY REPUBLICANS!!
Three weeks ago you were all dancing in the streets about McCain’s pick of Palin for VP and yelling how “great life was!!”
At that time I had one thing to say, and it came to pass yesterday. I said Palin was like a meteor flying across the night sky, shining so brightly!!
I also said within a month that meteor Palin would first sputter, then burn out completely and finally hit the ground with a big THUD!!
Well Republicans just after Palin’s interview on CBS yesterday with Katie Couric we all heard a sound, the meteor has landed – THUD!!!
This plus McChicken’s “suspension” of his campaign (what a joke) and trying to dodge the debate. Then going to Washington to MESS UP the negotiations on the bailout yesterday, there is only one thing left to say…
So this AM McCain caved and Obama is going to beat the “tar” out of McChicken at the debate tonight!!!
Bye, bye McCain and hello President Obama!!
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obama/Biden ’08!!!

Anybody with half a brain, could have told you see was not qualified to be VP.
Soon after McCentury chose her, all the stories were coming out about her ethics, judgment and everything else… It is very apparent that she was not VETTED.
Now the washington post has a story out saying that she took 25k in gifts… now how’s that for a reformer?
Sarah Palin is the Unable….. we need to make sure she does NOT get to the whitehouse.

she has quoted energy facts, that have turned out to be lies
she has taken credit for a pipeline that hasnt ever been built
i mean… lol energy
she might be in charge of the state that holds the biggest reserve of oil and natural gas and they are part of making energy
that doesnt make her an expert
thats like the argument about russia
she can see russia so she knows about russia
she lives in a state with a large amount of energy reserves so she is an energy expert

Latest poll results from Michigan, a swing state, and considered “up-for-grabs:” Obama 51% McCain 38%. Among women, its Obama 54%, McCain 35%. Looks like those small towns in working class America are just too smart to fall for the McCain BS. And it doesn’t look like women are coming out in droves for Sarah. There is no other state that has been hit harder by the economic crisis than Michigan – and the pollster who ran this one has the best track record of any of them.

I think the Conservatives are going to to do Sarah Palin what they did to Harriet Myers. I think she should just quitly confess that she is in over her head for this time in her life. Because now the Democrats will be sitting back watching the Repubs make a mockery of her. She should save herself from their scorn.
The Democrats went after her because she is unqualified for the job of VP.
The Republicans make things very personal and it won’t be pretty.

I think they’re going to ditch her. The reality is that this was a complete embarrassment. For someone like Palin with a minimal record, every interview counts, and you can’t afford gaffes like this. Frankly, at the start of the campaign, this applied to Obama too, and he proved himself capable.
Biden and McCain can afford to make gaffes, and both have. They each have a long history of leadership and accomplishments (and scandals) to fall back on.
At this point, we’re still expecting a troopergate report in 2 wks, a toe to toe with Biden next week, and Palins financial statements (oddly delayed). She’s already brought all she can to the table, and it isn’t enough. She has much more downside than upside at the moment, a competent candidate would dump her now.

We’re starting to hear the McCain campaign death rattle. Naturally, we’ll see a lot more ridiculous flaming and weird postings from the fanatics. But Obama’s steady approach is going to win this thing.
Cripes, his campaign is prematurely putting out “McCain wins debate!” ads. They are coming apart at the seams.

This time we have to take the election

We love Palin but we have to offer the
job to the right person who really
qualifies for it.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of alarm

People, think wisely.

Why does that scare you? Are you afraid of intelligent people? Are you afraid of educated people?

SHAME.
Sarah Palin is indisputably unqualified.

Palin is still going with that Russia proximity thing as foreign policy credential. She gives beauty queen answers. People think she’s very funny, and not in a good way. They may have blamed Charlis Gibson, but they’re not blaming the press anymore.

I think Bush won two terms? So maybe his down to earth attitude, like Palin is appealing to regular people.
Obama’s arrogant attitude that he is better or smarter than others–or his tendency to lecture everyone is what turns many people off.

In this world, in this country, belief in moral standards results in constant attacks. Mrs Palin will continue to get insulted but she has my vote because she does have standards.

Posted by: Jim | September 26, 2008, 1:37 pm 1:37 pm

Truth to Obama supporters. There WAS not an agreement yesterday. The left had a plan to push and the conservatives didn’t even agree to what they proposed. The libs are dangerous because they lie to the public. This will come back to the people who made the lies up. McCain will be the next president because he put the crisis first and will be rewarded for his honor. The rookie will be sent back to Illinois to his radical preacher.

Sally, I get that you think Palin’s small town roots mean something to you, but its her intellect and qualifications that you should be weighing. She’s dangerously unequipped for the job she is seeking — and that has nothing to do with where she comes from. Don’t you want the smartest and most capable president? I’m not elite. I work hard for my middle-class existence; I am very much the average American. But, we need a smart person in the White House right now. We’ve seen 8 years of “average joe”, and quite frankly, that was about 7-1/2 years too much.

EVERY leader of the free world should know how to speak… Talk about experience: this woman has been talking for the 40 odd years of her life and “STILL HAS NOT”

yet ?!?! The VP should know how to talk effectively… this is elementary !!!

Palin is something that egghead Obama never will be–one of us.
The elites just don’t get average Americans.
Palin’s attraction is her small town roots–and the fact that she is NOT a lawyer or typical politician.

While Palin was mayor of Wasilla, rape victims were charged for investigative rape kits.
According to the NY Times, victims of other crimes were not billed for the costs of gathering evidence. In 1994 Biden drafted the Violence Against Women Act, which included “provisions to make states ineligible for Federal grant money if they charged rape victims for exams and kits”.

You guys should really wake up here.
Personally, I am a little bit more upset that dear Joe Biden, whose gaffes seem to bother no one, but who is supposed to be such an intelligent, law school graduate, does not seem to know what years FDR was President, and that FDR used to give his Fireside Chats on radio, not TELEVISION.
On the other hand, Governor Palin is supposed to know WHICH Bush Doctrine Charlie Gibson was talking about in his obscure questions, and details about every single piece of legislation that John McCain has passed during his 20+ years in the Senate.
Personally, I would be a little more wary of someone who wishes to lead this country on a national level, but is ignorant of its history.

The comment that she made that I found most laughable was when she referred to sending fighter planes to intercept Russian aircraft. This is done by the US Air Force, and the governor of Alaska isn’t even consulted! She couldn’t send them on her own, and couldn’t stop them if she laid down on the runway.
Someone needs to tell Palin that trade missions have NOTHING to do with foreign policy.
She is rapidly becoming the poster child for poor political choices.

It’s heartening to see that there are still some intellectually honest conservatives left. In addition to Dreher, Ross Douthat, David Frum, Daniel Larison and, of course, Andrew Sullivan have all called out what a horrible choice Gov. Palin is. There may be hope for my old party yet, but only if it’s destroyed this election cycle and rebuilt as a true conservative party.

Posted by: Recovering Republican | September 26, 2008, 1:53 pm 1:53 pm

Sally, why is it a good thing to elect an “average” American?
I want the president, vice-president, and all my elected officials to be better than average in intelligence, experience, and managerial ability. I want to hire the best person for the job. Palin has many attractive qualities — she’s down-to-earth and feisty, qualities I admire. But those qualities don’t qualify her to be vice-president.
If someone is educated and thoughtful, it doesn’t necessarily follow that they are rich, out-of-touch with other people, or think they are better than others.
My God, have we become such an anti-intellectual nation that we call people “elitist” if they are educated and think with their brains instead of reacting on emotions? Well I want an “elitist” for president, vice-president, senator, representative, governor, and mayor. I would rather see one of these “elitists” in office, even if I disagree with them politically, than an unqualified, ignorant, overconfident demagogue whose views I share.

Bye, bye McCain and hello President Obama!!
So this AM McCain caved on the debate and Obama is going to beat the “tar” out of McChicken tonight!!!
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m looking forward tonight to all the “uhs, uh, er, uh, aah, uh,” from Obama.
Without the teleprompter, he’s just a 3rd rate actor.

Bush won two terms because so many Americans feel some kind of connection with him, I can not figure that out. Why do people like him but get all over someone else for saying something slightly silly like “television’ instead of “radio”. We all do stuff like that. But I for one do say”New Clear” not “nuck you lar” Making a mistake is much different than simply being ignorant.

Bill Clinton is not coming out and saying it, but he doesn’t not support Obama. With every interview he gives, he makes it clear that McCain is the man. I’m listening to Bill Clinton.

It is time for Bill Clinton to go back to Arkansas with the rest of the Hillbilly losers….
Obama doesn’t need him or want him campaigning for him anymore. I mean look how well he did for Hillary!!

exdemocrat, you just said Bill Clinton “doesn’t not support Obama”. Two negatives equal a positive. You just said Bill Clinton DOES support Obama. Thanks for verifying that.

We the media know that Obama is the weakest candidate to ever run for president.
That is why you see us helping and covering for him in any way we can.
McCain is an incredible candidate. He does not need our help.

The leftwing blogosphere is furious with Bill Clinton for all his help for McCain!! It’s fun to see them squirm. They trashed Bill in the primaries and now they want him on board! Too funny!!

Isn’t this topic about conservatives criticizing Palin?

Posted by: off topic | September 26, 2008, 2:22 pm 2:22 pm

Palin’s answers are babbling?
Then what the heck are Obama’s 10 minute ramblings?
He just wastes time trying to sound intelligent until his time runs out or until he puts us to sleep.
BO supporters are in such a stupor, blinded by their love for him they don’t actually care what he says.

Posted by: sam | September 26, 2008, 2:23 pm 2:23 pm

If only Palin had had her pastor do an incantation protecting McCain from witchcraft also, they would be ahead in the polls and those nasty Conservatives would not be blocking McCain’s ‘saviour of the bailout’ role.

Posted by: susan | September 26, 2008, 2:23 pm 2:23 pm

Jeez!
Have you ever been in a situation, like maybe in line at the DMV or something, and you totally need the bureaucrat to rubber stamp a piece of paper or something.
But instead of just doing their job, they waste your time and everyone else’s time by explaining something that you already understand in the most condescending way possible.
She’s both dense and condescending at the same time!
Like who in the world doesn’t know that Canada has a border with Alaska? Who doesn’t know that Russia is close to Alaska? But she never bothers to explain how this gives her foreign policy experience. She just repeats the thing over and over.
I learned to read when I was four years old and by the time I was in Kindergarten, I had moved beyond picture books. But in Kindergarten my teacher punished me in front of the whole class because I wasn’t sounding out words while I was reading. She actually treated me like an idiot because she was ignorant about me: I could read! But since she was in charge of the classroom, she never had to apologize or admit that she was wrong.
Flashbacks! Palin gives me flashbacks.

Palin’s teleprompter broke at the convention and she went on and was fabulous.
Obama takes the teleprompter everywhere he goes.
Poor Obama. The other day he said “Fannie Mac” and “Freddie Mae”
LOL. Guess the teleprompter was goofing for him.
LOLOL.

Rex,
“once again you prove Obama’s statement ”
Maybe I didn’t convey the sarcasm enough. I know and respect many GOP supporters, but what they can never defend is the fact they are on the side that relies and depends on the bigoted and ignorant.

Posted by: In the dark | September 26, 2008, 2:25 pm 2:25 pm

Blip, actually Palin explained and ABC edited it out.
Plus she explained it to Katie Couric.
But thanks for trying.
I wish Obama knew that Kentucky borders Illinois. And that there are 50 states, not 57.
And that a spring break trip to Pakistan doesn’t make you a foreign policy expert.
Lol.

I think Barr is not a true conservative. He had a chance to do things right and he dropped the ball. Now, he’s on the outside looking in. He lost his position because he didn’t stand true to the conservative ideals. Now, he’s on a remake tour. He’s not a player any longer.

Posted by: Christie | September 26, 2008, 2:26 pm 2:26 pm

Yes, so Biden makes a lot of gaffes. He always has. He’s known for that. Obama knew it when he chose him after many months of vetting V.P. choices. How long did McCain vet Sarah Palin? Evidently, not long enough! She is one scary, dude. Uhh…rather, dudette. And Obama was a senior lecturer at the Univ. of Chicago for 10 years teaching Constitutional Law and you say this guy can’t talk??? He’s a Harvard-trained attorney, and again, you say he can’t talk??? Come on, get real. Wait until tonight. If Obama seems hesitant and sometimes uncertain, that just happens to be his style but he tends to be very thoughtful, deliberative and measured in his responses, some say too cerebral, but definitely not “kneejerk” responses like McCain gives.

Posted by: geecee | September 26, 2008, 2:27 pm 2:27 pm

it will be fun to see McCain try and hold in his temper and sound normal tonight during the debate… and… to hear him run from the last 8 years of his own Republican party policies, that’s, if he has the guts to even say ‘republican’ or Bush as they’re all running from the word…
I’m putting the ‘over under’ on McCain saying ‘my friends’ at 250………
In the dark… my bad… sorry

Many things about Palin have
caught the public imagination.
- telegenic youthful good looks
- mayor, governor
- working mom
- Super Mom
- loves her family
- deep religious faith
- back at work at the
governor’s office three days
after giving birth to her
fifth child along with the
baby
- error of teenage daughter
and other family problems
people can relate to
- frontierswoman
- huntress
- markswoman
- Annie Oakley
- more boy than boys
But Palin lacks the core
requirements the job of
the vice president – and
potentially president -
demands.
- limited range and depth of
knowledge of major national
and global issues and the
ability to articulate them
- does not appear to have
read much, thought much about
our own history and world
history
- does not display independent
thought and polciy ideas in
matters of war and peace, and
relations with foreign
nations
- has not shown the courage
to separate personal beliefs
from public policy on matters
women care deeply about
- does not appear to be
deeply committed to
environmental preservation,
energy independence and
protection of endangered
species

I wonder if Couric in her next interview with BHO will ask why he supported a $100,000 earmark in Chicago that produced nothing except a plywood Gazebo?
Will she ask BO why this being investigated by the Attorney General?
That would be a good gotcha question that no MSM media will ask.

Jo… sorry… but Palin’s teleprompter was not broken at the GOP convention. That is an email forward that you got.
I doubt that Couric edited out Palin’s long-winded explanation of Alaska’s borders. Probably another urban legend.
But, in the short, and allegedly edited, interview that Couric did with Palin… Palin comes across as tedious and dull.
Sorry. It would be a lie for me to say she came across any other way. Dense and condescending. Confident with nothing to back it up.
You want that for VP, maybe President, go for it.

Posted by: Blip | September 26, 2008, 2:30 pm 2:30 pm

Republican or Democrat,Black or White,Male or Female really should not be the issue. What’s best for OUR country is what matters. People seem to have forgotten why and how this country was founded. How people fought and died to make it the Great Nation it is today.Seems to me that it would be just wrong to even consider electing anyone who does not share the Christian beliefs that started this country.
That leaves us with McCain & Palin. End of story!!

Posted by: Sheila | September 26, 2008, 2:33 pm 2:33 pm

Honestly, I don’t know where people get the idea that Palin’s Christianity is anything like that of our Founding Fathers.
Jefferson, Washington, Adams, Hamilton… none of those guys ran around speaking in tongues and blaming their misfortunes on witches.
To get to those beliefs… you have to go back to the witch trials and the early Puritans… and those people were kind of misguided.

It is now being reported that Palin is saying the reason she never got a passport is not that she was not curious, it was that she was not from a rich family who gave her money to back pack through Europe. What a crock!!! I have traveled abroad, studied abroad and worked abroad on 5 continents since I was 9 years old. And while my parents helped, the bulk happened because of MY work and hard effort. Heck, I am not even in government and have met more foreign leaders than her, have had more detailed conversations about more global issues then she can imagine. And that did not happen because me or my family was rich. What crap Gov. Palin!

Posted by: DMR | September 26, 2008, 2:47 pm 2:47 pm

That’s a lie Christie. The media reports on controversy. They ran lots of negative Democrat on Democrat stories… all the way through the convention.
But I do know conservatives, like my parents, who can see that Palin’s a lightweight. If you ask my mom, she thinks Palin needs a few more years as governor, maybe a cabinet position, too, before she’d want her in the White House.
Now is my mom voting for Obama? No. But she’s telling the truth when she says she doesn’t want Palin to be President or Vice President any time soon.
It’s sad when Politics overwhelms the desire to tell the truth. It is convenient to pretend that Palin is a super-candidate, because you don’t want to give any edge to Obama. But the truth is… she’s not a great candidate. She is good looking and opportunistic.

Sarah Palin explains Foreign Policy !
Did you know I can see Russia from my house?
Did you know I said Thanks but not thanks to the bridge to nowhere?
Did you know me and senator McCain we are in a mission from God!
Like the Blues Brothers!
Vice- President duties?
First to be Senator McCain cheerleader, and second if he die I will bomb Russia!
If I am ready to be President? Of course I will never blink

Posted by: foreclosure | September 26, 2008, 2:51 pm 2:51 pm

Palin could afford to attend several colleges…
She wants to be Vice President but cannot afford to travel abroad.
Doesn’t really compute here.
It’s like McCain and the computer. The kind of incurious, apathetic attitude which drives people to embrace and celebrate ignorance.
It reminds me of the joke: What do you call someone who knows three languages? Tri-lingual. What do you call someone who knows two? Bi-lingual. What do you call someone who knows one language? An American.
It’s sad, but I know busboys with more international experience than Sarah Palin.

Posted by: Blip | September 26, 2008, 2:52 pm 2:52 pm

What I find curious is how many of these posters have accomplished HALF of what Sarah Palin has accomplished in her life? There are MANY conservative bloggers online and a FEW in the press, Jake cites TWO this morning. What about those who admire Palin, have found her press meetings to be fine and note that she is able quite easily to handle those who deliberately set out to derail her? There are many of those articles, but I’ve yet to see one here.
IF any JOURNALIST worth a grain of salt were able to sit Obama down and question him the 8 questions I listed this morning, it would be all over in a nano second in America. However, that’s a pipe dream because the main stream media is about as far in the tank for Obama as they can get, in fact, they are drowning in Koolaid.
Obama is a sleezebag. He proclaimed that America needs to step up to the plate and be their brother’s keeper, “do unto the least of these” direct from the Saddleback Forum but his brother George lives in absolute poverty in Africa. He doesn’t even do for his own brother, but he wants America to step up to the plate.
The Republicans are revolting on the bailout plan because the DEMOCRATS are trying to ONCE AGAIN place provisions within to benefit ACORN and other liberal institutions, (corrupt as heck) to insure even more housing for more who will not or cannot pay. They haven’t learned their lesson. McCain is right to protect the taxpayer. I’ve never met a Dem that didn’t want to empty your pockets on payday, and it won’t change.
Barack’s numbers remain below 50, and will, the undecided, which I doubt are undecided will go to McCain.
Factor in those who won’t admit they won’t vote for Obama, and you have a landslide.
As for the debate tonight, wishful thinking on behalf of you liberals. Obama absolutely comes unglued without his teleprompter, and as far as Foreign Policy, well, I just had to laugh at that one. “Iran is just a tiny little country, really no threat to America.”
“I would sit down and meet with Achmadinejad with no preconditions.”
“I don’t believe the surge is working.”
And the one factor that I JUST LOVE, he’s the chairman of the oversite committee for Afghanistan and he’s never held a meeting.
Gotta love that!
Get him McCain. Oh, and McCain didn’t hole up and practice for four days either.

Posted by: Brenda | September 26, 2008, 2:53 pm 2:53 pm

Go ahead, be selfish, Ryan with your protest vote while Obama takes the nation even further left. The country is not slowing down towards socialism. I can see that. Obama and Reid will be in the fast lane with this agenda. You will not know your country with Obama in there. McCain has his flaws and a greatness but he’s not Obama.

Addendum to my earlier post about Gov. Palin’s passport remark:
Sorry folks I am still busting a blood vessel here over Sarah Palin she she did not get a passport because she did not come from a rich family not because she was not curious. Well:
Barak Obama traveled the world and he did not come from a rich family.
Bill Clinton traveled the world and studied at Oxford and he was not a rich person.
George W. Bush came from a rich family, his father held diplomatic posts overseas and he rarely traveled abroad before he became president and look what that got us. Spare me the sob story Gov. Palin!!

If you polled Americans, MOST have not been to Europe, and MOST could not afford to go, and quite frankly you may find that most do NOT want to go. Additionally having a passport and having traveled to Europe does not a VP make. What a ridiculous premise. How many foreign LEADERS did you meet while backpacking through Europe? Do you really believe the average American would meet Europeans and Middle East leaders by having a passport and traveling abroad? That entire scope of questioning is absolutely foolish and an obvious attempt to smear.

Brenda, I’ll write a story to lighten your day.
Committed Republicans love Palin!
In breaking news today, Christian COnservatives announced their full-throated support for Sarah Palin. According to Hannah Mae Smith, “Sarah Palin is like a pitbull in lipstick.” Another supporter commented, “She said thanks but no thanks to pork! And I’m not talking about the food! Because unlike Obama, she likes to eat lots of pork. (But I got an email which said he eats another kind of pork, if you know what I mean. Chortle chortle!)”
Is that a good story? I should get a pulitzer for it.

Christie, The government took over Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae – we now control about 80% of all mortgages. That is socialism. The Chinese regime controlled 10% of Morgan Stanley – while Bush slept – squandered our money on building an Islamic government in Iraq – and destroyed our own economy. They didn’t need a cold war. All they needed was Phil Gramm and a Republican administration. The bailout is the biggest move toward socialism in American history – and it was written by a Republican president, Republican adminstrators and Republican lobbyists.

I would hope that ANY president would seek additional advice before launching nuclear missiles.
The alternative is old spazzy McCain, calling the economy strong, screaming for the heads of Wall Street Execs, cancelling his campaign, keeping it going, cancelling the debate, changing his mind again….
I mean, what if the phone rings at 3am and McCain answers. He’s gonna launch missiles. And then he’s gonna realize that it’s just Blooper or Tractor Pull or one of the Palin kids trying to call their mom to bail them out of jail. Meanwhile, WWIII.

Mom: I’m sorry, but Sarah Palin doesn’t know squat about energy – and that’s really a shame, because she is Governor of Alaska, a state that is completely dependent on energy for its economy and tax base. Sarah Paliin says 20% of American energy comes from Alaska. It’s less that 4%. Alaska has about 18% of estimated crude oil reserves out of all American crude oil reserves. That’s not energy – thats not even petroleum. American has about 2% of all global petroleum reserves. I’m not sure where you got the idea she’s an expert (maybe from John McCain), but she simply isn’t – and the part that bothers me most is she doesn’t even seem to know it. Somebody called it “Imposter Syndrome” today. I think they nailed Sarah Palin. She’s been running on something for a long time – and it’s not her smarts or her ability.

Posted by: mara | September 26, 2008, 3:24 pm 3:24 pm

I was highly critical of Palin, but now I honestly feel sorry for the poor woman.
She was dragged out of Alaska by someone who just wanted to use her, forced to have her family on display, had rumors about an affair put in rags nationwide and then humiliated on national television.
I just can’t watch it anymore. I’m about to scream to leave the poor woman alone and let her fade away into obscurity.

Sarah Palin really is one of us when it comes to getting irresponsibly buried in debt–or, in this case, getting other people irresponsibly buried in debt. Mind you, this is the same mayor whose town received $27 million in earmarked federal funding, and thanks to her projects the town is now $20 million in debt.

The only catch was that the city began building roads and installing utilities for the project before it had unchallenged title to the land. The misstep led to years of litigation and at least $1.3 million in extra costs for a small municipality with a small budget. What was to be Ms. Palin’s legacy has turned into a financial mess that continues to plague Wasilla.
Litigation resulting from the dispute over Ms. Palin’s sports-complex project is still in the courts, with the land’s former owner seeking hundreds of thousands of additional dollars from the city.
People liked her but she wasnt a reformer! Or at least a good reformer..
She was a bad reformer!

Ryan C says:
“Palin has only just started giving interviews so you’ll have to give the intellectual conservatives some time to pack up before they jump ship.”
I have to admit Ryan, I laughed out loud on that one. Packing my suitcases now …
It’s clear to me the Democrats will get full control of the rigging and the rudder. Careful what you wish for.

Palin saw Alaska’s high rape rates… and she put her foot down. She created a big deterrent… so that any woman who tried to drive those statistics up by reporting an alleged rape… would have to put their money where their mouth is.
In Wasilla… Rape convictions are going down!
Now that’s reform.

Plus, it might sound cruel to say this… but by taking the responsibility for solving sex crimes away from BIG government… and putting it in the hands of individuals… it really makes people feel proud and self-reliant.
Instead of placing blame on others or running to the government for handouts… women might look inwards.
And I can’t, for the life of me, see why the press isn’t talking about this.
I mean, this is real reform. The kind of outside of the box thinking that Washington needs.
Typical liberal media blackout.

When will Palin answer if she supports Ted Stevens or not? I want to know. Just like i want to know if she believes dinosaurs and man coexisted or that earth is 4000 years old. Does she want creationism taught in public schools and what books has she banned or tried to ban?

“pig” or “Obama.”

Let’s see. Obama, Bush, Harry Reid and Pelosi all had a bailout deal to give away $900 Billion and JM and House Reps opposed it.
1. Obama/Bush, what a pair
2. Since the House can pass a bill on majority vote, Bush will ok it and Reid can push it through the Senate, why don’t Obama and the Dems get the job done and pass this bailout?
The House Reps can’t block a bill from being passed.
If the Dems believe this was a good bill why are they playing politics with our economy?

The reason is because Palin has a chance of being elected.
And Obama supporters care more about their country of having competent leaders for Americans to choose from rather than celebrating someone who is completely clueless being on the opposite ticket.

We don’t choose a leader because she is a hockey mom or she is just like one of us. A VP is a extraordinary person with extraordinary role not just one of us. Clueless? Actually it is much of the American electorate who are clueless as to the sham that the Democrats are trying to ram down through throats of the taxpayers. In the current proposed compromise for the $700 billion rescue bill, is a provision–that the Democrats have thrown into the deal–that will give 20% of any profits from the rescue plan to ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now). ACORN is a community organization of low to moderate income families that addresses housing, schools, neighborhood safety, health care, job conditions and other social issues that affect its members.
IRONICALLY, it was ACORN that pushed to have the banks lower their lending standards so that low to middle income families could purchase homes that they could not afford. SO the Democrats now want to give 20% of any profits from this rescue bill to one of the major culprits that caused the financial mess we are in.
INCIDENTALLY, Sen. Obama used to work with ACORN as a community organizer. And he used to train ACORN’s Chicago members in leadership seminars. Sen. Obama was once ACORN’s legal council. And Sen. Obama also sat on the boards of Woods Fund and Joyce Foundation that poured money into ACORN.
Wake up America! Just imagine what the Democrats will do with your money should they control both the Congress and the White House.

Joe Biden was chosen for VP, for his honesty free spirit and his experience!
He’s supposed to make a point when is needed. She makes only scripted interviews and has very thin Resume. Sarah Plain VP? Thanks but not thanks!

Market Watch (Sept. 25, 2008) quotes Consumer Rights League’s Chief Public Advocate, James Terry:
“…its decade-long history of voter fraud, embezzlement, and misuses of taxpayer funds, ACORN’s pattern of fraud can no longer be dismissed as a series of ‘unfortunate events.’ ”
“Here are the most important questions right now: We know about the thousands of potentially fraudulent voter registration cards turned in by ACORN and caught by officials. But given the size of ACORN’s efforts and the fact that the abuses appear to be systemic, we believe it is fair to question how many more fraudulent registrations have not been discovered, Furthermore, as this mega organization with a decades long history of violating the law is turned to get out the vote efforts, we believe it is fair to question how many fraudulent registrations may lead to fraudulent votes or what other activities they are willing to undertake to influence the election.”

Biden was chosen because Obama was getting hammered for his lack of experience.
Palin was chosen for three reasons:
1. Obama made a mistake in not choosing Hillary who was by far the best choice and thus alienated a large number of women. Even Biden says Hillary was a better choice.
2. Palin was popular (80% approval rating) and a maverick in taking on the leader of the Alaskan GOP and
3. To prove to one and all that women can advance to the highest levels within the GOP party. The accusation by Dems that the GOP will only advance rich, white guys is thus disproved by action. Case in point, a GOP woman may well be the first President of the US!

Underdog
Couldn’t agree with you more.
However hopefully the government will pay 20-50% of the loan value and there may be a few loans where the house might be sold for more than the amount paid for that particular loan.
Even though rare, given the size and large number of loans, this might add up to millions of dollars and perhaps more.
Notice the government isn’t saying there has to be a profit in total, just a profit on one individual loan.

Here’s a question: How does Biden handle the VP debate? The fact McCain tried to delay VP debate says something right there. However how does Biden “win” the VP debate with Palin without just embarrassing her. Which could lead to people actually feeling sorry for her. Biden should just play it straight and discuss the issues related to the questions. Let the viewers decide if Palin is a “train wreck” without hamering her. Which he could.

This is hillarious we got Palin grasping for words while we have Obama reciting a dictionary and never saying a damn thing that is useful or based on reality. Then we have Biden who sticks his foot in his mouth every chance he gets — yeah, I’d feel real confident with him talking to world leaders.

People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is clueless.”

I loved Sam Harris’ comments in the recent issue of Newsweek:
“What is so unnerving about the candidacy of Sarah Palin is the degree to which she represents—and her supporters celebrate—the joyful marriage of confidence and ignorance. Watching her deny to Gibson that she had ever harbored the slightest doubt about her readiness to take command of the world’s only superpower, one got the feeling that Palin would gladly assume any responsibility on earth:
“Governor Palin, are you ready at this moment to perform surgery on this child’s brain?”
“Of course, Charlie. I have several boys of my own, and I’m an avid hunter.”
“But governor, this is neurosurgery, and you have no training as a surgeon of any kind.”
“That’s just the point, Charlie. The American people want change in how we make medical decisions in this country. And when faced with a challenge, you cannot blink.”
LOL! Sarah Palin is no more qualified for the role of VP than she is qualified to perform neurosurgery.

I’m not a fan of the GOP ticket AT ALL — Palin’s a train wreck of the worst order and poor Senator McCain, well, anyway Rick, I believe what Mr. Tapper is referring to when speaking of Cicero is, in fact, not Cicero, Illinois, but Marcus Tullius Cicero, orator and political statesman among many other things. And since he lived during the time of Ceasar, we should assume that the 21st state of the United States was yet to be since its admission was not until 1818.

Palin is a smart woman with chief executive experience and an 80% approval rating in her state.
She has a reputation of making good decisions that benefit the people and reflect the will of the populace.
A Vice President rarely makes split second desicions. That’s just not how the job works. Given the time to examine each issue, she is a person who can be counted on to make the right decision.
She just needs a couple of months to examine the issues that the federal government deals with and she’ll be up to speed. She is one of the best raw political talents in either party.

Brenda:
The reason behind that question is that an average person is not well suited to be president or a heart beat away from the Presidency. How can Sarah Palin deal with issues relating to other nations when she doesn’t know where these nations are and has never been to any or know anything about them? As a president or vice president your interaction with the outside world is very vital, especially with the preeminent role the United States play on a global stage. Palin comes across as very average. Sometimes below average and that is troubling. The Republican Party and some McCain surrogates continue to speak as if Sarah Palin is the most qualified female leader in the party. The truth of the matter is that she is not. And if she is not, why was she chosen? This brings into question John McCain’s judgment. Not only that Ms. Palin is not qualified to be vice president, she is clueless as to what the issues are on economic as well as on foreign affairs. Her performance with Katie Couric was just abysmal and I wonder how someone in their right mind will vote to elect Sarah Palin as Vice President, unless the person does not care about the future of this country.

She is so not qualified to act as VP and my fear is that if McCain dies, she will be running this country!!! OMG!!! She reminds me of a highschool cheerleader who failed at history and Geograpy and has someone else feeding her the answers to her tests. I honestly don’t know how she became governor to any state with her lack of knowledge. I was trul embarrassed for her after watching her interviews.
