Democrats on Hill Worried About Biden at Debate

There doesn’t seem to be a single Democratic officeholder on Capitol Hill who thinks Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is better qualified to be vice president than Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del. Many don’t think she’s qualified at all.

But as the two vice presidential nominees prepare for their one debate this Thursday, there are a number of Democrats who, off the record, say they’re worried that despite his far greater breadth of knowledge, Biden could whiff it.

He can be verbose and has a propensity for gaffes, they say. The son-of-Scranton candor they usually find charming can sometimes seem reckless or insensitive.

That Biden will be debating the first Republican woman vice presidential nominee makes his challenge all the greater.

In recent weeks, in fact, Biden has taken advice from Democratic Sens. Hillary Clinton, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, presumably offering tips on how to debate women without seeming sexist or bullying.

On Sunday, Obama’s chief strategist David Axelrod sought to lower expectations. Much of this is spin, but some of it is quite legitimately rooted in Biden’s occasional charge to open-mouth-insert-foot.

“I think Governor Palin is a skilled politician," said Axelrod, per ABC News’ Matt Jaffe. "She got elected in a very tough political arena against tough opponents and we’re going to treat her with the respect that she deserves."

Axelrod said, "I fully expect her to be ready for this debate, and I think there will be a great deal of interest in this. I think it will be a well-watched debate, so it’s going to be important… She’s very skilled and she’ll be well-prepared. I know she’s preparing this weekend. As you saw at the convention, she can be very good, so I think it would be foolish to assume that this going isn’t going to be a really challenging debate. We’re preparing for that, on that assumption.”

They should be more worried about Osama bin biden. These two clowns, one a relic – the other a novice. But the novice is more than scary – he is a dangerous “wannabe” who can be bought by terrorists.

If Biden is as much of a chauvanist pig as Obama, he’ll keep on calling Palin “sweetie.”
Male superiority is a myth. Obama used fake Greek columns at the convention—everything about him is a myth or fake.

I think that Senator Biden could do just about anything and “beat” Sarah Palin. I just hope that it will be like Obama and McCain’s where the American voter was really the winner because we got to hear issues being discussed and not farm animals in cosmetics.

Will they finally let Palin out of Philly?
She’s been staying at ONE of McCain’s houses. (not sure McCain knows which one)
She’s a lock to win this debate. She has the ability to speak total
gibberish. Cons understand gibberish,
so she wins hands down.

Hillary and Pelosi are offering Biden tips on how not to appear sexist or bullying? This confirms how little Americans have come in their thinking and how fragile their women are. The non-sexist approach is to rip into Palin in the same way any examiner rips into an ignorant, unprepared candidate.

I have no doubt that Biden will win and come out looking so much more put together.
Palin is clueless. Biden might be a little rough around the edges, but that sure as hell didn’t stop W. Biden will come out on top – no question.

How the hell can anyone say a single word about Biden after listening to any three word combination that comes out of the train wreck fraud Palin? Did you people see the CBS interview? There are middle school students who could sound more intelligent, and I’m not exaggerating.

It will be nice to hear what Palin has to say without having the main stream media edit her and take her words out of context.

Posted by: dlc | September 29, 2008, 8:17 am 8:17 am

I am more concerned about Joe Biden’s lack of knowledge than Governor Palin’s. Recently, Biden said that FDR was President when the stock market crashed in 1929, when it was Hoover, and that there was television at that time, when television hadn’t even been invented yet. In addition, Biden said that Obama was not ready to be President. In addition, Biden voted for the war in Iraq and voted to fund the war, just like McCain did. Therefore, Biden is at odds with Obama on key issues.

All of the investigations about her would be enough for me to jump ship but you Repubs have to stay true to your own no matter how DUMB Palin looks. McCain has a gambling problem-I guess his gamble in Palin didn’t pay off though. 10/2/08 at 8pm ET-a show to remember

Posted by: jackiecee | September 29, 2008, 8:26 am 8:26 am

If the debates are anything like Palin’s interview performance on Katie Couric, Joe Biden could just not say anything at all and let Governor Moosehunter McNarrow-Maritime-Border over there dig her own grave. Sarah Palin is completely unable to articulate a single coherent opinion on any issue of substance in this election, and it shows.
By the way, check these comments and the way the McSame supporters pull out the illogical fear mongering and personal invective, almost across the board. Just like the McSame campaign itself! YAWN! Call me when these people start taking a stand on the ISSUES, until then I invite all of them to shut up now and forever until they can present a reasoned argument. There is also not a single Democratic Congressman or Senator that thinks Obama is the best qualified either. They were none too thrilled to see him in Washington last week. What is not even a first term Senator doing representing their party? They support him only because they see him as a rubber stamp to do their bidding. After all he votes 100% party line. Not much thought goes into his votes.

Imagine Palin as your next President if Mccain does not make it through his four years as President, if he was fortunate enough to be elected. That thought alone is enough to make you vote for the opposite party. Hold that image of her as being in control. Hillary yes but her? Please give us all a break.

Now Palin is even grounded like a High School freshman, and she ready to be President? Are you delirious?
This is the Republican mentality, “trickle down crap, is precisely why Republicans must go. Republicans have Trickle on us enough.

Posted by: JJ W | September 29, 2008, 8:29 am 8:29 am

The press will make sure Biden does fine, because they will totally ignore him in the debates(just like they have been doing so far) and attack Palin for any and everything; from the clothes she wears, her hair style, her lipstick, why she isn’t taking care of her infant child and any fumbles she makes along the way.
Joe will make a gaffe or two or three and the press will laugh it off as there goes funny Joe again.
Palin will make a gaffe and the media will spin it so it is the end of the McCain campaign, end of the Republican party and possibly the end of the two party system as we know it.

Mark my words. Joe Biden will be declared the winner by the MSM, even if she soundly routs Joe.

Joe Biden’s challenge is not related to his capacity as a speaker, statesman, or fair human being, each of which is highly rated.
The debate is all about qualification.
If Sarah Palin has the superhuman ability to learn in two months what Biden has learned over three decades, she absolutely deserves to prevail in the debate.
On the other hand, if she is truly, as she claims, an ordinary “hockey mom”, who somehow managed to finagle her way into Alaskan state politics, she will fail.
Perhaps Biden has considered concealing a smidgen of Kryptonite in her lectern; or he may understand that she is little more than an attractive, ambitiously opportunistic housewife, armed with a two week crash course in “Bush style vice-presidency”.

She closed a loophole in Alaska which poor women were exploiting to get free pelvic exams from police.
That’s right, she closed the “rape kit” loophole…. so now if you want to get a pelvic exam… you better have the money in hand. All 600 to 1000 dollars of it! That’s reform.
Plus, I heard that the number of rapes reported in Wasilla went down after Palin cracked down on this horrible loophole.
But will the Lie-beral media cover this? Nope!

Obama speaks in platitudes. Cases and points: “I want to make sure there is a provision in the bailout package that provides mortgage protection.” OK, well….Which mortgages get protected and which ones don’t Obama? Which mortgages were made irresponsibly by the lender and the recipient Obama? Do these mortgages apply to businesses or homes Obama? What is the monetary cut-off for mortgage assistance Obama? Another example: ” I want regulations as part of this bailout package.” OK…Well, who provides the oversight? How will they be paid? Will the oversight apply to publically traded or private businesses? Who imposes the fines if a business does not meet regulatory standards? Who will police the oversight committee? Will the oversight committee be partisan? Will it be elected? Again, all he does is speak in platitudes. It is even more of a shame that the republicans are not fighting back against this and all of the false smears that they alone are responsible for the economic slowdown. This is a problem that has been 25 years in the making when we shifted from a monetary based economy to a credit based economy. The “booming 90′s” under Clinton was fake. Everyone was living well off of debt and credit.

What I’m so amazed with is “People” in general. Their were a lot of people jumping up and down when McCain made the announcement that an unknown woman had been chosen. Then the speech which she delivered in “attack mode” and set with a bunch of lies. She was called a game changer until she started speaking and then on top of all that she praraded her family on stage hiding the fact that her 17 year old, was pregnant, unmarried and then we all was told that she was going to be married at 17 (still in highschool) that was the first lie and then the saga unfolded from there! I’m sorry but the world is looking and Sarah Palin should not have been on the ticket at all. She has been McCain look bad in front of America…
Is Camp is responsible for this mess and now they want her to be treated differently. I don’t think so! She should have thought about this decision before she accepted and now Biden must be careful to avoid humiliating her too badly, for fear of being called a sexist bully – No Way!
Sarahcuda lacks intellectual ability on all levels and “First Dude” can’t be on stage with her on Thursday! Way out her league….

Biden is a great vpick .In many ways Palin is as well.Biden can go for hours explaining policy but Palin has the ability to connect with people. It will be an interesting deabte.
Meanwhile the first debate was impressive in the sense that McCain did much better on the economy than expected and Obama the same on foreign policy.

Posted by: JOL | September 29, 2008, 8:55 am 8:55 am

Biden better be ready to respond to the off the wall responses Palin will make to rudimentary questions. This woman is not ready to be a heartbeat away from being President of the USA. If McCain dies in office, she will have little to no respect from foreign leaders and we will be the laughing stock of the world meaning we won’t have any leverage to persuade other countries to do what we want them to do. That means we have to go it alone like we’ve been doing the last 8 years at great cost to this country.Winning debate points won’t change this fact.

I read all these ultra liberal democratic comments about Palin, some if not most, quite inappropriate, and cannot help but see how scared and intimaded they are by her. I find it very amusing, and cannot wait to read all the comments after the debate, when they see just how fierce and knowledgeable this woman really is. As governor of a state she doesnt have the luxury of getting all dressed up, showing up only to vote “yes”, “no”, or in Obama’s case, just “present”. When her state or country needs her, she is there. Same with McCain as that was shown this past week. You dont have to call him or her for them to show up for work ready to lead. Just think about about it people.

The ONLY thing they have is their hopes to produce another “he was mean to Palin” fallout here. You know, shoot for that emotional voter? Which is BS. If she actually were to get in, and were to become POTUS, she’s going to know what mean is. If the girl wants to play in this league? She needs to buck up anyway. I guarantee you they’ll have her coming in sounding horrible in hopes to bate him to get upset.

Where there are a lot of men who just gave up on trying to work and do better on welfare? Healthcare there isn’t “free,” it is a tax from wages. No need for “sheeple”. Palin has proven so far an above average ability to put her foot in her mouth. She has her own long-winded chewing of that foot once inserted.
The challenge on both sides will be to keep the shoe leather on the ground.
However, Palin has dug a hole for herself. She will need to perform well just to get back to zero.

There are two big surprises in this election. One is the enormous influence corporate stockholders now have over the mainstream journalists causing them to abandon any traditional ethics of objectivity to pursue self-endowing celebrity.
The other is the extreme sexism of the left and the Democratic party. It baffles me but it is there evident and loud. That other women are stepping up to support the sexist attacks first on Senator Clinton and now on Governor Palin surprise some, but this seems to accord with the decades of being subordinate to men such that some segment of women believe that they have to be more ruthless than men to win.
Our society is veering back and forth across the center lane like a Saturday night drunk.

The Record, of Stockton, California, may not be the most well-known of newspapers, but they have been, for a number of decades, one of the most consistent.
For the first time in 72 years, The Record is endorsing a Democrat for president.
Franklin D. Roosevelt got our nod in 1936.
Barack Obama is our choice for president of the United States.
He has demonstrated time and again he can think on his feet. More importantly, he has demonstrated he will think things through, seek advice and actually listen to it.
Obama is a gifted speaker. But in addition to his smarts and energy, possibly his greatest gift is his ability to inspire.
For eight years, American politics has been marked by smears, fears and greed. For too long, we’ve practiced partisanship in Washington, not politics. The result is a cynicism every bit as deep as that which infected the nation when Richard Nixon was shamed from office and when Bill Clinton brought shame to the office.
This must end, but John McCain can’t do it. He can’t inspire, nor can he really break from a past that is breaking this nation.

And the 80% approval Palin supposedly had in Alaska? What a big lie! The media is digging hard, but they have yet to interview one person from Alaska that has anything good to say about her. Obama is an elitist egomania diseased power monger and Biden a wannabe that needs a raise to support his lifestyle that presently he cannot afford. We deserve America First and can ill afford another Egomaniac Leader in this world, North Korea and Iran are two too many as it is. I want a leader who will make me proud of the U.S. again
I want a President who will talk with

It is not naive to want change and it is not unreasonable to want a leader who graduated from the top of his class instead of the bottom. Just a few things we are talking about.

Biden: We must redouble our efforts in Afghanistan and work seriously to eliminate the Taliban and bring in Bin Laden from his sanctuaries in Waziristan.
Palin: Ooooo! I met Mr. Karzai from Afghani-land and he was very nice! He had a very cute hat and told me that he had a baby with some crazy Muslim name. I told him about my baby Trig, who I haven’t seen in weeks. And then I told Mr. Karzai that we would stand behind his efforts to bring Christianity – oh wait, I mean Democracy – to Afghani-land, dontcha know…

Palin should be treated like any other candidate running for VP – she shouldn’t be treated any differently than if a man was standing up there for the debate.
I know repubs will declare “sexist” no matter what Biden says or does – seems to be the case everytime Palin opens her mouth “someone is picking on her”
Get over it.
The woman has no business doing what she is doing and if she can’t play with “the big boys” then she needs to go home and shoot some moose or order some more aerial killings of wolves. She seems to be okay with that aspect of things but put her on the stage and she’s being “picked on”.
It’s usually bullies who enjoy killing animals.
She is in over her head….McCain chose her for votes, not her brain. The woman should be insulted if anything at how McCain has been willing to throw her out there. I don’t feel sorry for her as she could have said no. But I’m hearing from a lot of people who do feel sorry for her (although still don’t like her).
She’s coming across as a babbling idiot in her interviews. I believe she’ll come across as one in the debate. She’s going to get flustered and tell Biden to stop picking on her.
I can see Friday’s headlines “Biden picks on Palin” story at 11.
That’s all we will see for posts after that. Poor Palin picked on by the Democrat bullies. If that’s the case perhaps she should not be in the potential position she’s in now. This picking on is nothing compared to what she’ll have if McCain gets elected.

For every 100 times that Senator Biden speaks with reporters or talks to people with microphones present, he makes a gaffe. The media has a field day, but people don’t think he is stupid because he stays on message 99% of the time — he gets an A. For every five times that Governor Palin is allowed to speak without a script, she blows it. The media has a field day, and people do think she is an idiot because she never gets it right — 0% = F. The problem is not the media; it’s Palin’s lack of knowledge.

It seems Obama’s camp is clamping down on untruthful ads there – and I suppose that scares the right base because bogus ads are all they do. Big deal, it’s nothing more than saying due to the laws there they will go after somebody if they lie in an ad.

Kathy: Biden has put his foot in his mouth on several occasions and Obama had to take him aside to scold him. Well, that’s what happens when you get pushed thru school instead of earning your grades. He is noted for his big bad mouth but don’t worry Palin will pin his ears back and give him a run for his money. CNN said Obama won. If he won then I just won the lottery. Of course all the networks are pro-obama so what else are they going to say. They interview pro-obama independents and went into black areas. Obama never won a debate yet so they had to build him up. But we know better and take it with a grain of salt.

Meh.
My deepest regret is not having the chance to see a Bush/Palin administration…Would have been so natural and representative of certain American values.
However – once the McCain/Palin ticket gets elected, things will evolve smoothly with Palin stepping in as the President. Except she will be replaced by her sosie – Tina Fey! Now that’s what I call a coup d’état!!!

I hope Biden behaves himself. If Biden offends anyone it’s not going to be good. I really think his heart is good but he’s kind of old-school in a way. But he’s an excellent debater and he’s an expert in many areas, so I think it will be fine. I think Palin will be better than the past week and will probably be more like she was during the convention, but she is really out of her element since she doesn’t have much depth or breadth of issues. She will be armed with a few soundbites and zingers that will please some in her party. This is my prediction, I hope the real event is Biden will completely blow her away and not make any mistakes.
But then look out for Mitt Romney to come to the rescue if Palin totally blows it.

All Biden has to say is yes or no to the YES-NO

Are the American men so scared of a woman. First they crucified Hillary, we did not forget the encouragement she was receiving from even her party to give up her race halfway through, now we see a similar approach with Palin. What is the matter? Are you really so scared. Why in the 21st century we have religions which consider women second class worshippers and why we have countries so called civilized countries running down their women.?

No matter what happens in the debate, the repubs are going to cry sexism. Outrageous when you compare the two VP candidates: Biden, a class-act who authored one of the most important and successful pieces of legislation to combat violence against women; Palin, a neocon who made rape victims pay for their own rape kits until the state told her she had to stop, who advocates stipping us of our right to make our own reproductive decisions, and who is glad to be pointing the shotgun at her pregnant teen daughter’s wedding. Palin’s the one all women (and all men who love women) need to look out for.

Why does Obama need props such as weird Greek Columns, fake presidential seals, or even “oh, they are supposed to be “white house windows” anyway? Obviously he needs them – otherwise in a carefully scripted appearance they would not use anything they thought would leave the subject to ridicule and get them off message.
Truth of the matter is – the Styrofoam Greek Columns were a major blunder and an insight into the shallow mentality of the Obama Campaign. He’s not fit to lead a nation if this is what they’re about.

Maria – this is why the republicans are going to lose. While the nation is concerned with actual issues – like our rapidly degenerating economy, and the seemingly endless war in Iraq – all the GOP can think to talk about is styrofoam columns, lapel pins, and “terrorist fist jabs”. I guess when your policies suck and everyone hates them, that’s what you have to do… but I really doubt it’s going to work this time.

I’ve been amazed at Palin’s meteoric rise to the office of Governor — the highest executive position in the state — with only 49 counterparts in our great nation. And all this without the lengthy, diligent preparation and career development that other sitting governors have endured.
Striking quickly, opportunistically, without warning, having lulled the opponents in her brief career into a false sense of security, and throwing under the bus those who have offered her a helping hand along the way. Add to this her well-honed ability to use her female gender against any male opponent, and you have Sarah Palin’s dangerous style.
Obama has the easier job in debating McCain, because McCain is transparent, predictable and a known quantity.
Biden, and for that matter, anyone debating Palin, should be very careful.
Although she has not been in national politics long enough to realize that local/state political tricks don’t work for long in the big leagues, they don’t call her Sarah Barracuda for nothing!

Joe Biden comes across as a really average guy that people can relate too. Sara Palin comes across as an average American that people can relate too. It will be a great debate because both people have similar styles. The only difference is Joe Biden comes to the debate with great depth of the subjects and Sara knows all of the issues, however she has less depth. It will be interesting.

There seems to be a lot of anger from folks about Palin. My single concern is this: We still haven’t heard what HER positions are on anything. She gave many solid, lucid interviews in Alaska, and many of them suggest that she has positions that are very different than those espoused by the McCain folks; on earmarks, on taxes, on drilling ANWR, on gay marriage, on healthcare and issues such as violent crime and protecting women from sex crimes. Why haven’t we heard from Gov. Palin herself about her REAL opinions? To me, this indicates that McCain picked her (after meeting her only one time) strictly for the “package” and that he was uninterested in her views and qualifications. What other explanation could there be for a professionally-trained television personality like Palin to flub so badly in interviews? She has been flooded with McCain’s views on this or that and cannot answer honestly because they don’t agree on many issues. Remember Carly Fiorina? Why is she missing now?
I say that McCain should let Palin loose and deal with whatever inconsistencies there are between them. It’s shameful to expect her to simply cheerlead for McCain.

Posted by: OkieMom | September 29, 2008, 10:00 am 10:00 am

Its my opinion, Biden is at a cleard disadvantage here..after all , once again the McCain camp has set the debate rules so Palin doesnt have to give long answers..her answers will be kept to 2 minutes only on answering any of Bidens remarks..well, this could be to Bidens advantage TOO..however, I dont see it fair for McCain camp to be able to set the rules for this debate..thats criminal in itself..debates should be kept to “original” rules..this is same way he tried to control debates with Obama, only wanting town hall settings, as “he was more comfortable with those”. why is it all about what McCain “wants”..we are undecided independents, and so far we still arent convinced of just WHO to vote for..we do NOT like all the smears and lies from McCain camp though, and we acknowledge Obama has spun off what we call distorting facts, ( telling only half the story) thats a long way from out and out LYING..we would have to conclude Obama has been the most honest, shown so far the best judgement, slow to anger, and most willing to work bi partisian..still..will see after rest of debates if we can be convinded to vote for either one of these canidates..

There has been a lot said about the DNC Greek columns. Somehow, I doubt that this was Obama’s decision to make. The convention plans start 2 to 3 years in advance, as soon as the venue as chosen. With that said, I think it’s a pretty silly thing to focus on. That is unless you don’t want people to know that your VP candidate is a “no-gamer” and your Presidential candidate was IN THE SENATE when most of the bank deregulation happened. McCain can cry all he wants about the economy, but he was there to watch it fold; he was there when legislation allowing it to happen took place. It doesn’t matter what Biden says, they’ll say he was mean and sexist no matter what, it’s all they have.

First Dude should not have ever been allow to run state business and it appears that he communicates to Sarah Palin what decisions should be made. The Alaskans have fallen for her facade and McCain has been taken as well. Should have vetted her first. Nice she can attack but that doesn’t get it. Blowhard Joe will have a tough time combating Palin’s muscular yet feminine brand of authenticity. Leadership combines several indigenous qualities like wisdom, decency, fairness, grit, and willingness to buck trends. Palin displays these traits. Biden, on the other hand, sounds just like one would expect from a long-marinated, bought and sold, Senate elitist who loves the sound of his own voice. Like Obama, Biden is a screamimg lib trying to sound civilized.

I never understood those comparing Palin to Dan Quayle. They did so less than 24 hrs into her nomination. Quayle is the senator whose name became synonymous with the word stupid because he misspoke and made a spelling error. Palin hardly said hello and they said she was “worse” than Quayle. Worse I guess reference her gender?
Now, Joe Biden is a prettyboy. A popular member of the Old boys’ network in the Senate. He is known to say the wrong thing, he did so yesterday.
Biden is the VP-choice they should compare to Quayle. An counting the number of gaffe’s he makes, I’d say Biden is worse than Quayle.

Democrats should worry about Joe Biden. Obama had the chance for change and he chose status quo, Biden. Palin will do fine and surprise a lot of Democrats, and a few Republicans. Obama and Biden are both anti-gun and pro restrictive gun control. I hope Governor Palin gives Joe Biden enough rope on this issue. Obama wants to remove handguns from all law-abiding people, like Feinstein, if she “just had the votes”. Obama and Bidenb are about to grow the federal government to mammoth size, further strangling our republic and sucking the life out of it. It will be refreshing to hear from the conservative side of reason, instead of the far liberal left side of socialism. The contrasts in this election could not be much greater. Best wishes Governor Palin and Senator Biden, please try to keep your foot out of your mouth.

Odd, Obama was not needed in Washington for the largest financial crisis of our time. Why then is he needed as chief executive? I believe he is afflicted by an egocentric view of things. His trip to Washington was an afterthought to save face; he skewered McCain for going-bottom line- he thought it more important to honor his TV moment (his image in lights) than doing the job he was elected to do. Obama, we have no deeds to guage against your rhetoric. If he wins he will be thrust forward by a complicit media, a frothing base of true believers, and empowered by the most ineffective and dogmatic (Pelosi, Reid, Durbin, and c.) congress in memory. The very architects of the financial mess we are in today. This will usher in change, what’s left in your pocket after this group taxes you into the proper socialist mentality .

_Of course_ Democrats are saying they’re worried about the debate. By asserting Sarah Palin is smart and will be well prepared, Democrats look respectful. They satisfy Republicans by legitimizing her candidacy. They also make it possible for Biden to treat her like a real opponent: he won’t have to be gentle because she’s a woman, because she’s [ahem] so clearly smart and well prepared. And then, when Palin performs the same way she has already–i.e. embarrassingly badly–it’s going to look worse for McCain/Palin than if we had started with already low expectations.

Posted by: mom2homer | September 29, 2008, 10:24 am 10:24 am

Notice where Republican and Convervative Columnist Kathleen Parker has written an article calling on Sarah Palin to step down? Sarah IS an embarrassment to the Republicans and the only chance they have to win is to pick a new VP running mate for McCain.

Give me a break. First of all , I think spin like this is meant to lower people’s expectations of Biden so he can only look better in the debate. If everyone assumes he will eat her alive he is bound to fail. Having said that, I hope he doesn’t treat her any differently as an opponent just because she is a woman. This is a debate of knowledge and words, not physical strength. Did anyone treat Dan Quayle or Perot’s running mate differently when they flubbed their debates? No. Regardless of how Biden acts the Republicans are going to claim the next day that he didn’t treat her with respect as a woamn – it is the same thing they’ve been claiming all along about the media. He needs to treat her just like he treats any other rival for political office and she needs to be able to stand on her own feet. To treat her otherwise would be sexist.

Racism in America has receded, but sexism is rampant and often deadly. It’s gotten to the point where womens # 1 concern at the ballot box should be whether we and our daughters will be murdered by the men around us or other violent males suckled on a steady diet of media aggression and passivity. The biggest REAL crisis facing America today is the one no candidate ever mentions, Violence against women. Biden’s unconstitutional statute, VAWA, did jack squat about it. What will deter the gross epidemic of male on female violence is for women to become armed, and goddamn twitchy so that any man who even thinks about harming a women or child is preemptively dispatched. It’s us or them. Read the papers. Wake up, women. American men don’t even have the balls to kill other men any more. Its all about killing women and children. Don’t worry about terrorists, gas prices, or Iran. Worry that your husband, son, ex, or some male stranger will kill you today (or some other woman or children.) Believe it.

Pete: For the record Obama didn’t want to go to Washington last week. And when he did he sat there like a bump on a log while everyone else was discussing the bail out. He was worried about losing the script he had to memorize on foreign policy. He memorized it so much he forgot some of the answers. That’s why he told McCain he was right about 6 times. Obama won the debate? Don’t take bets on it. CNN wanted to build him up to cover up for what he did’t answer. Obama has never won a debate yet and failed in the forum interview.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | September 29, 2008, 10:35 am 10:35 am

Biden will do fine. Palin will be OK, because they’ve modified the debate format to allow short answers. I don’t think she’ll have as much of a problem as with her interviews, because all these questions will be practiced over and over the next few days. I think they’re both more authentic than the tops of the ticket, which is why they get in more “trouble.” I am an Obama fan though — I’ll admit. From what they allow us to see of Palin, it’s hard to say that she’s going to be great.

They don’t know a shiite from shinola, and they vote based on two things; accent and skin color, not necessarily in that order. They deserve the losers they’ve had for the past eight years and they deserve their failure. They need to sit down, shut up and stay home on election night so the smart people can fix this country.

Let us all remember that Palin is McCain’s running mate. She is not running for president. It amazes me how everyone keeps asking if she si fit to be president. Is McCain planning on not completing his term? I see this as a major hassle for McCain because he will soon start wondering if Palin (and her popularity) is a threat to his job. Hmmmm!!!! Food for thought.

If Obama was “not needed in Washington during the financial 9/11″ then he most certainly is not needed as the chief executive of the United States.
Truth is – Obama panicked and was clueless on what to do and only reluctantly went after the president invited him to come show his chops and help out.
Obama failed.

Funny I didnt think Senators had a say so in the bill until it come to the SENATE FLOOR, which is scheduled later this week. I didnt know either of them were on the finacial committee. “We are closely monitoring the vote schedule,” Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. “Senator Obama has always said that when the vote is close and his vote is needed he will be there.”

Biden -30 plus years in the Senate and what does he got to show for it ? A reputation for cursing and stickig his big foot in his mouth, along witha few Alzheimers moments such as FDR being Prez in 1929 and going on a “non-existent” t.v, plus he has criticized Obamas own ads. He is a joke!! Obama rewarded him because his Prosecutor son went after Larry Sinclair the male who claimed he had gay sex with No-Bama. Perhaps Sarah can ask Biden why 3 gay men were murdered in Obamas church and he was suppose to be intimate with one of them. Perhaps Bidens prosecutor son can answer that !!! Change we can trust -yeah too funny -he picks a Senator with 30 year dismal record and one who has been prosecuted before for plagiarism..!! Yep thats change we can believe in all right !!! Obam could have this whole thing sewed up if he had picked hilary but he and Michelle were too arrogant to do that. Go Sarah Go- Make ole Joe show what he doesnt know !!!

Posted by: jimbo | September 29, 2008, 10:56 am 10:56 am

Agreed, agreed!! Biden is certainly more knowledgeable and intelligent, however, he has the greatest talent for going “off-track” and creating humongous gaffes, thereby causing even greater damage to the party. Why can’t he learn not to open his mouth and utter sometimes stupid and offensive comments? Why can’t he think before he speaks? Why can’t he just learn the basics of public speaking after all his years in the public spotlight? He has ruined his own opportunities so many times, isn’t it time for him to learn to be more prudent with words? Doesn’t he have any advisors who can tell him the truth and give him some valuable advice??

Conservative Defender: And how often do you wear your flag pin. Like Obama that had to be talked into it? And Obama wears it now for not because he’s patriotic but because of being critized. Obama really doesn’t like this country and neither does run of the mouth Michelle. And Obama may be just running for president because the Daley machine wants a democrat in the white house and they believe he can win. The Daley’s do not like the Clinton’s that’s why he didn’t endorse Hillary.

Her horrible interview with Couric might just be a ploy so Americans and the Obama campaine underestimate her. Also expectations will be low, so if she holds her own she will be perceived as the winner. The GOP is know for trickery and will go to any measure to win.

Posted by: Kitty Wilberforce | September 29, 2008, 11:05 am 11:05 am

I can’t believe someone was actually stupid enough not to know why it’s an issue whether Palin is qualified to be President.
If McSame got elected (God forbid) he would be the oldest inaugurated President in U.S. history. He’s had cancer twice and other health problems, including psychological. Some people might think Palin is a cute novelty now, but if anything happens to McCain, she becomes President & then we’re all in seriously deep doo doo. A Palin presidency is even far scarier than a Dan Quayle presidency.

After Friday nights debate the McCain campaign just “don’t get it.”
That’s all I hear is how Palin is going to do what she has been doing out on the campaign trail. Attacking Obama’s capabilities. Obama clearly demonstrated this Friday night. It’s a mute question now. Obama slammed McCain. 1-0 Obama.
The McCain campaign continues to exploit Palin as the most intelligent, experienced nominee for the V.P. seat in the Unites States. Palin has done nothing but make McCain look bad and his campaign. This debate is all about two V.P. nominees. Biden needs to tell Palin “this debate is about you and me Hockey puck, not Obama.” “Lets move on and answer questions.”
The bottom line is Palin’s resume/experience and Biden’s. I hope McCain’s campaign is not planning to make this debate into a clown circus. This is what they have been doing with Palin. When they have Palin open her mouth on a serious note she is completely ignorant about the world we live in. I want an honest debate. The comedy is over. How can they allow this to go on.

Posted by: Dianna | September 29, 2008, 11:13 am 11:13 am

Biden and Palin at the debate. Biden: “I served with Hillary Clinton. I know Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton is a friend of mine. Governor, you’re no Hillary Clinton.” Palin: “Who am I? Why am I here?”

“You are right”, “You are right”, “You are right”, “You are right”, “You are right”, “You are right”, “You are right”, “You are right”, “You are right”.
Translate:
Dear Mr. McCain,
I am Nobama. I am always wrong on all issues. Please educate me.
The big funny thing happened after the debate, ALL the liberal media tanked to Nobama, the winner?????????????
All liberals media are so unable to understand the debate or stupid or something, hidden agenda for terrorist associated Nobama???????

Posted by: Microtek | September 29, 2008, 11:18 am 11:18 am

What I want to know is how the two clowns, Obama-Biden got so far.
We’ve got Obama-no experience, egotistical, appeaser of terrorists, completely flip-flopped on all original positions, ties to terrorist, criminals and racists,
Let’s put all the cards on the table here, he’s playing the race card throughout the election season to guilt people into voting for him. Geraldine Ferraro was right, he would not have gotten so far as a white guy.
Now we’ve got Biden–biggest joke in the Senate, egotistical, failed foreign policy positions, son and brother are being investigated and sued for extortion, obviously racist and a plagerist and liar.
He only garnered less than 1% of the vote from his presidential bid. What does he bring to the table, 500 votes.
Come on people these socialist liberals, from Obama to Reid and Pelosi have hijacked the Democratic party and everyone is letting them get away with it.

Sarah Palin is not being attacked by the media, she is being reported on just like they did every other candidate in this race. Stop crying foul on the media because she is not qualified for this position.
By the way, agreeing with your opponent on issues is not flip-flopping, it shows that you are not just debating to represent your stance but to express a stance that is good for America. Agreeing also indicates that Senator Obama can reach across the aisle, even in a debate, and be bipartisan. We all talk about government being more collaborative, well?

This ploy to lower expectations of Biden in order to make him look better at the debates is an insulting attempt by Dems. Biden has years of experience. If he can’t handle himself well in a debate after so many years in politics, then he should not be on the ticket as VP.

Posted by: Mike | September 29, 2008, 11:34 am 11:34 am

This blog is constantly infested w/ paid Republican operatives. There is not a thinking person on this planet that believes (after that disastrous interview w/ Katie Couric) Sarah Palin has the understanding of foreign or economic policy to be VP & 1 heart beat from the Presidency. Maybe she has a stellar performance Thursday (the format is set up in her favor) so what??? Does that erase the 3 interviews she’s done??? She seems likable enough but that doesn’t mean she should be VP. Obama stood toe to toe w/ McCain on McCain’s strongest area of knowledge & he came out looking far more Presidential. The funny part is, McCain blasted Obama in an ad the day after the debates for agreeing with him. Didn’t John McCain try to tell US about how he reaches across the aisle??? Then he turns around & tries to bite Obama’s arm off for agreeing with him on certain issues??? I mean I thought an effective leader was supposed to find areas of agreement & expand on those… Aparently McCain thinks the worse thing Obama did in the debate was to agree with him??? Wow this just keeps getting better & better… More popcorn please!!!

Democrats are right to be concerned. Even if Biden doesn’t make any obvious gaffes and manages to curb his windbag tendencies, a lot of viewers won’t like it if he treats Palin as he would a male opponent.
If Biden isn’t deferential, Republicans and women more interested in a candidate’s sex than her views will call him sexist. If Biden follows up on Palin’s lack of knowledge, they will call him a sexist.
Biden needs to be as polite to Palin as Obama was to McCain and hope that Palin self-destructs in the follow-up to her scripted answers when it’s clear she doesn’t understand the underflying issues.

The KKK was founded by Democrats and it was the Democrats who voted NO to African Americans having equal rights. Yet this is the party you all support and claim Republicans are racist when Barrack Obama and his campaign party are the only people who have brought up race in this election. It shows how weak your campaign strength really is when you ahve to resort to that as a reason people aren’t voting for him.

Governor Palin is the queen of one-liners as she knows they tend to get an immediate reaction. Comedians have made a mint off of one-liners but they are not known for their seriousness nor their leadership. Comedy is a form of entertainment and that is exactly what Gov. Palin will provide to the american people come Thursday. People want substance and an administration that can deal with serious matters in a logical and non-reactive manner. I anticipate Sen. Biden will let the Governor get her laughs while he providing the rest of us with answers to our concerns and real leadership. She may win on form but he will win on substance and substance over form wins 9 out of 10 times. I am looking forward to it.

No one in the McCain camp has cited race as any type of issue. It has only been the Obama camp to insinuate racism. The people on this blog need to get a little integrity and stop looking so ridiculous. The color of skin has nothing to do with whether or not they would make a good leader. Condoleeza Rice is a black women in our party and is very highly respected within the Republican Party. And rightfully so. Put the color talk away and stick to the issues that matter please.

Everyone ready for this Thursday’s debate?
I believe that in this week’s debate, Sarah Palin’s true colors will show: her lack of ability and knowledge to support the United States as Vice President. her interview with Kathy couric clearly proves it. I do respect the fact that she is a woman running for office, but what matters is whether or not she is qualified for the position. Remember, the Republican Vice Presidential candidate is Sarah Palin: the woman who didn’t know what the Vice President’s job was and said that it was “God’s will” to propose her $30 billion pipeline project. How can we expect her to be a good Vice President?

For those Repubs who claim that it is the Democrats that drag race into this election (and this blog)…how do you explain the Republicans at the RNC who were wearing pins that said “If Obama wins, will we still call it the White House?” Give me a break. Race is certainly a, if not THE, reason why some old-fashioned, ultra conservative white men and women will not vote for Obama. On the other side, more African American voters will most likely come out and vote for Obama this year than ever before, for the obvious and shallow reason of his skin color. Obviously this is not a universal claim, but please don’t just pretend that race isn’t going to be a factor in this historical election.

There are too many examples.
Let’s just take one.
McCain is for nuclear energy
in the debate. He wants 40 new
reactors built. Does not want
Arab oil. Most oil exporting
countries are hostile to us,
he says.
McCain has been a congressman
and senator for 26 years. He
has never advocated nuclear
energy in all that time. He
has never been associated
with the idea that nuclear
electricity is an important
component in our energy mix.
You can’t trust anything he
says. He has no credibility.
The debate only highlighted
the fact that the man has no

I love the smell of GOP desperation in the morning!

Posted by: Lemmy | September 29, 2008, 12:06 pm 12:06 pm

angela – It was Obama who said to an audience “They are going to tell you not to vote for me because I have a funny name, because I don’t LOOK like the other presidents on the dollar bills”. Don’t try and convince me he wasn’t tryign to call us racists.
and I agree with Smagination Land – nor am I afraid of anyone claiming the race card. Rice and Powell debunk the race card issue. They want to say Republicans are not voting for Obama because he is black. That’s simply NOT TRUE. There are a select few who are ignorant and stupid, they are the minority of our party. We vote on the issues and who we believe to be the best person for this country. NOT on the color of skin and I have seen the race card played way too many times in this election by the democrats and it’s getting absolutely ridiculous. We are not living in the 50′s. Democrats LOOK AT THE HISTORY OF YOUR PARTY. And while I will say we are not including race as a reason to not vote for Obama there are MANY who are voting for him because he is black and that is just as bad. I will make the huge example of Oprah being on. If Obama were 100 percent caucasian she would have backed the Hillary Ticket in a heart beat in the name of women getting ahead but she chose her race over her gender. It’s not the Republicans who are racist in this election.

Angela–did that still apply when he said “those against him are afraid because his face is different from the dollar bill, 3 times in one day.
Or when he said that his grandmother was racist.
Or when he said in his book, “Audacity of HATE”: White mans greed puts the world in need.
And about another 100 racist statements in his 2 books, about what else, HIMSELF.

true, McKinney’s style can be quite embarrassing at times, but history will prove her to have been one on the greatest patriots of our time (she’s the only one who, early in the 2000′s, was willing to openly question Rumsfeld, & she was eventually proven correct about questioning Bush about the rationale leading us to war in iraq–all the while being lambasted and ridiculed.)

Posted by: malone | September 29, 2008, 12:11 pm 12:11 pm

Smagination Land,
Why don’t I give it to you straight. You only tolerate Condoleeza Rice because she’s in your party. Perhaps not you, but most of the members of your party would have nothing to do with her even knowing she’s a Republican because they apparently never met a white person that wasn’t qualified for something and a black one who was. And I like how you point out Cynthia McKinney when you have the always outrageous Alan Keyes.

Posted by: Whatever | September 29, 2008, 12:14 pm 12:14 pm

Wow, the GOPers are sure worried on here! It’s hilarious! Racism aside, who are you calling a “novice”? Barack Obama has been an elected official for 12 years, which is MUCH more than you can say about Ms. Palin. Biden for many more than that.
Problem with you GOPers, you can’t do math. That’s why we’re in the financial disaster we have today. Thanks, GOP!

Now talk about a ridiculous left-angled news report… here we go again. This is obviously a bunch of malarchy… aimed at making the playing field seem more level from the Palin-battering Democratic side. Now they can say, oh, see, Biden had his problems going into this debate too, but look how good he did! Oh, brother. The man knows politics and he knows how to talk to women. And if he how’s he made it this far? Gimme a break.

There was a time when Washington outsiders were the very people we wanted as our country’s leaders – it’s odd that we’ve come so far. We now complain that leaders in Washington are too far removed from the lives of ordinary people, but we continue to vote them into office.

“There doesn’t seem to be a single Democratic officeholder on Capitol Hill who thinks Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is better qualified to be vice president than Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del. Many don’t think she’s qualified at all.”
And I’m sure that a majority of the Repubs on the hill feel the same way.. but you won’t hear them say it.. until AFTER the election.

Posted by: Janice | September 29, 2008, 12:25 pm 12:25 pm

“but then, Palin knows her history better than Biden does, now doesn’t she?”
Ya, like when Palin said, if the Pledge of Allegiance was good enough for the Founding Fathers, it’s good enough for her. I’d go so far as to say she knows more about history AND energy than anyone else in this country.

Posted by: mom2homer | September 29, 2008, 12:28 pm 12:28 pm

Hey, GOPers. Our ticket is more educated than yours, in every way, including the wives, Michelle and Jill. And so are our voters.
The Dumb Talk Express is derailed. The “anti-intellectual” fascism is over now, thanks to Bush. There’s a fork in it. Deal with it. Or maybe you should go look at the bailout details and figure out how much money you’ve just lost instead.

Posted by: Lulu | September 29, 2008, 12:29 pm 12:29 pm

I am amazed at the high caliber level of commentary here. In my view Palin is a nice person and sincere in what she believes. So is Joe Biden. However Palin is can’t get off the script. She can’t get past talking points and generalizations and she has absolutely no understanding of foreign policy let alone experience with it. Even if I agreed with her political stance, and despite the fact that she seems like a sincere and dedicated person, I wouldn’t vote for her for any office if I had a reasonable choice. The thought of her taking over from McCain is frightening. I can be assured that Biden, with whatever flaws he has could do the job. What we don’t need is another Bush who also knew nothing, continues to know nothing, but can talk in vague generalities when he must.

Posted by: Joel Miller | September 29, 2008, 12:32 pm 12:32 pm

Sounds like the Democrats are a bit worried – at least they’re not underestimating Sarah Palin, like many narrow-minded voters. Despite tough odds, Palin fought corruption in Alaska, was elected and has an 80 percent approval rating – and there’s a reason for that. As voters, we once wanted that type of leadership in a politician. Now we just want to elect career politicians and lawyers to office.

Palin is completely clueless in her interview with Katie Couric. She makes Dan Quayle look like a genius. The VP debate is going to be laughable with her in there, and this thing will be over by the end of the weekend.

Joe Biden declared that President Franklin Roosevelt, during the 1929 stock market crash went on TV to calm the nation. Completely and blithely oblivious to the fact that Herbert Hoover was president in 1929 during the stock market crash that spurred the Great Depression and that television had not yet been invented.
And Palin is clueless?????????

This VEEP debate just won’t happen. Mcain has way too much to lose when palin further alienates even his own conservative supporters with her astounding ignorance.
PALIN WILL SKIP THE DEBATE—citing some bogus emergency.
PALIN WILL RESIGN FROM THE TICKET—citing some bogus reason and under SEVER AND SECRET PRESSURE FROM GOP. In return for HER resignation (so Mccain can try to save face) she will get a Cabinet post if he wins.
WITH THE WORST POLLING FOR MCCAIN HE HAS SEEN TO DATE, there is simply no way he can afford to let her talk at he debate. Even though they managed to secure a “short answer” format for her, it will be 90 minutes, and SHE CANNOT POSSIBLY SURVIVE 90 MINUTES WITHOUT A SCRIPT.
SO DON’T GET YOUR HOPES UP FOR THE BIG DEBATE—NOT LIKELY TO HAPPEN.

Governor Palin is where Obama was 18 months ago- new to the national media. Obama has stuttered and gaffed many times and has now become proficient to be able to speak without a teleprompter.
Governor Palin, unlike Obama, has achieved a public career defeating tough opponents and is a sitting Governor with responsibility for a budget and dealing with a legislature. Gove.Palin is more qualified than Sen.Obama anyday.
This lifelong Democrat will be voting McCain-Palin – my 1st vote ever for a Republican. I cannot in good conscience vote for an arrogant rookie Sen Obama in these perilous times at home and abroad.

We are so hated by other countries maybe it is time to sit down and talk rather than bring out the guns all the time. And we do need to get out of Iraq and see if they can run their own country they have been fighting religious wars there for ever. It is costing us trillions of dollars to keep our troops there are economy is falling down around us and we can’t afford to keep our troops in Iraq forever get a grip and see that you get more with honey than you do with vinegar. The Americans are not well liked right now and if Obama can help change the opionion of America I’m all for it.

Democrats are worried because of the truthful information that will most likely surface during the course of the debate.
For example:
–The five deferments that Joe Biden dodged the Viet Nam War with compared to the sons of Sarah Palin and John McCain that are serving this country in the military.
–The influence used by Senator Biden to get legislation and money for interests of his son, Hunter Biden, who was then a lobbyist.
–The influence used by Senator Biden to benefit his credit card company backers, such as MBNA, with favorable legislation (changes in bankruptcy laws favoring business over individuals).
–The real estate windfall garnered by Senator Biden largely due to inside information provided by his influence as a Senator.
–Senator Joe Biden’s voting record during his time in the Senate that labels him as the 3rd most liberal Senator in the country behind Obama and Ted Kennedy.
–The Biden attitude of vitriole and sarcasm will contrast negatively with the positive demeanor of Sarah Palin.
The Democrats should be worried…

Hell, they had an ad on their web site that McCain won the first debate even before the debate started!! — LOL – I wonder if they took it down after McCain clearly got his @ss kicked. Oh. And by the way, Lulu, I am not a McCain/Palin supporter. They’re both RINOs. Do you know what that is? Let me explain it for you. A RINO is a Republican In Name Only.
You Dems are such hypocrites. You all loved McCain when he was working with Democrats and supporting their legislation. Now that he’s a nom for Pres, all of a sudden he’s satan.
You libs love working moms, women who favor their careers over their kids, you love Juno and other pregnant teens, yet a Republican does that and she’s satan minion?
Even Hillary Clinton won’t stump for Obama until he pays her bills and after the Jewish holidays. Jewish holidays?????? What does she care about Jewish holidays? She’s stalling because she won’t back Obama and she needs to get back in good with McCain. McCain.. a guy who supported Hillary.
I don’t know what you people are fighting and bitching about. Either way, a Democrat will be in office in November…most likely one wearing Republican clothes.

What do I think Lulu?
I don’t think Rev. Wright or Rev Muthee mean a damn thing. Not to me. I think they’re both quacks and I think Obama and Palin made huge missteps by even associating with either one of them.
That’s what I think. I think it was stupid for Palin to clientele with Muthee and I think it was political suicide for Obama to even be connected with Rev Wright.
When you decide to run for a presidential office be it Vice President or the main desk, every single absolute thing about you gets scrutized. Every dumb ass thing you say, every blink, every time you pick your nose, every single person you ever said hi to, every baby you kiss.
Fair or unfair, it ALL gets taken into consideration and played out before the media and analyzed and reanalyzed and polls are taken to measure any movement off of it. It’s precisely why Gen. Colin Powell and Sect’y Condi Rice have refused to run. Not because of skeletons but because every square inch of their lives is their business.
Obama and Palin have to be doing it better and cleaner than anyone else and they’ve both stepped in it. Except that Palin is beautiful and smart and male voters are visual creatures. They last choices for a female in such a high office were Ferraro and Hillary Clinton. Now they’ve got a MILF and quite frankly, they’ll put her in the White House before a ghetto, fist bumping, angry black woman.
Wanna know what I think Lulu? Well that’s what I think.

I’m looking forward to the VP debates. I have doubts about both VP candidates as well as both Presidentail candidates so this will help me decice which will, unfortunately, be the lesser of the two evils.
It makes sense that both sides are nervous. If either one of them, Palin or Biden, says anything which is questionable or is embarrasingly off the mark, it could make or break this election.

I’m a lifelong Republican who voted for George Bush twice (four times, if you count Bush Sr), and I can’t reconcile my party’s choice this time around. Though I am great admirer of John McCain and voted for him in the primary, I think the actions he’s made in the past month, flipping his statements and ideas, are just not something I can get behind. ESPECIALLY with the Hail Mary pass vice presidential choice. Guess what, the pass is INCOMPLETE.
I cannot vote for John McCain, a man only four years my senior, because even though I feel in great health, I cannot trust his health, and I CANNOT see that idiot run this country.
I regret voting for Bush in 2004, because his cronyism has sunk our economy and our values.
I am a Republican voting Democrat this year.

I cannot help it if you, like T here, can’t swallow the truth about your candidate. I suggest you open your throat a little wider come November. As for me, it will be just as I predicted. But, as I am financially secure, I’ll weather this storm, whichever way it goes.

go to Anchorage Daily News—Palin is making her own state furious by letting the GOP take over her state, by letting the GOP muzzle her, by dodging an ethics probe and by constantly lying.
from today’s edition:
WASILLA — Though Sarah Palin depicts herself as a pit bull fighting good-old-boy politics, in her years as mayor she and her friends received special benefits more typical of small-town politics as usual, an Associated Press investigation shows……”
REMEMBER, this is from the paper that LIKES her.

from an editorial by the Anchorage Daily news:
“Gov. Sarah Palin has surrendered important gubernatorial duties to the Republican presidential campaign. McCain staff are handling public and press questions about actions she has taken as governor. The governor who said, “Hold me accountable,” is hiding behind the hired guns of the McCain campaign to avoid accountability. Futile as the request may be, we encourage Gov. Palin to stand up to McCain’s handlers and be personally accountable for her administration’s response to Troopergate. She is the governor of Alaska, not John McCain or Ed O’Callaghan.
BOTTOM LINE: Official state business — like Troopergate — should be handled by the governor of the state, not by McCain presidential campaign operatives…………….”
So how’s that for her state’s love for her?

Palin is a governor, and so are Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and George Bush. A governor is used to deal with congress of all partties, and the national guard, on real day-to-day issues.

I think both candidates are going to hold back and we’ll end up with a very bland debate.
Sarah will do ‘okay’ and Biden won’t make any gaffes.
Then, the polls will reflect each sides perception of what happened.
Fox will state ‘Palin hits home run”
NBC will say ‘Biden makes his case’
The expectations are just too hyped-now we’ll all miss out on what could have been a fascinating real debate.

Why doesnt Obama never use USA/Victory in the same sentence ?
Why does he always try to appease other countries ?
Why does he fight for the rights of the terrorists and not the common man ?
Why does he lie about his tax plan ?
40 % of the folks dont even pay taxes, how the hell can he say he is going to cut taxes for 95 %
Who the hell on earth votes ‘PRESENT’
Who the hell on earth tells ‘CALL ME IF YOU NEED ME’

For many people the debate isn’t going to matter after the Couric interview. She couldn’t respond to questions that most people just reading the papers could do. In addition there were segments that left you wondering what in world was she talking about. It was downright scary. Gov. Palin will be thoroughly scripted for this debate however, her ability to comprehend issues except for being on the attack is apparent. She should be treated as any man would be treated running for VP.

Posted by: NancyW | September 29, 2008, 1:33 pm 1:33 pm

Here are some choice quotes from Plagiarist-Joe that might blurt-out during the debate – or he’ll come up with even better ones!
Biden: “…right now I don’t believe he (hussein) is (ready to be president). The presidency is not something that leads itself to on-the-job training”.
Biden: ” I would be honored to run with or against John McCain. He’d leave the country better off.”
Biden: hussein is “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean.”
Biden: “Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America.” “Quite frankly it might have been a better pick than me.”
Biden: “When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt (1) got on the television (2) and didn’t just talk about, you know, Princes of Greed. He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.’” (3)
(1) Hoover was then President, not Roosevelt. Hoover addressed the nation by primarily by newspaper. (This was well before the loony-left liberal media turned most newspapers into left-wing propaganda sheets.)
(2) Television wasn’t around then: there were no TV broadcasts and nobody had a TV in their home.
(3) If he had known Plagiarist-Joe, Roosevelt would probably have said: “We have nothing to fear, but Biden himself.”
The least-qualified VP candidate goes along with the least-qualified president candidate. “sweetie” hussein and plagiarist-joe – what a team!

Hey, at this point, I don’t care if Palin rides into the debate with a team of huskies brandishing her moose rifle, or that Biden wears cowboy chaps and wrestles an alligator on stage…I just want the Bush administration to limp through its last few months with a minimum of damage to the country…or is that a pipe dream now?

As a small business owner, I will be forced to let go about 20 workers in the event of Obama raising the business tax. That will balance out about a 4-5% increase in the business tax, and the work from those workers will be distributed on everyone else. Above and beyond that, any further increase in the business tax will result in directly increased costs for customers. I hate to raise prices and to fire longtime employees, but I cannot allow my business to fail just because a new president has a different idea of taxation. Please save your “tax breaks” because you will need them many times over once the price of goods and services increases to compensate for the business tax hikes. To those who lose their jobs – my condolences. It’s only 4 years, and then you will have another chance to voice an opinion over whether high taxes are good or bad for the economy.

Anti-Repugnican
I’m a white woman but one of my very closest friends is a black woman – we have been best of friends for almost 20 years. It took working on Jessie Jackson’s campaign for her to finally see the light and realize that the dems and their liberal/socialist/communist views are just wrong. She has assured me many times that many whites may say they will vote for BHO, but when they step into the voting booth and they don’t have to be politically correct, they will not vote for him. You seem to think the ratio issue is what will get him elected – she assures me that there are many black people out there that feel the same way she does about Obama – he has no business being in the White House. Even the pollisters are saying they cannot feel assured by their own polls because of the racial issue – I guess we’ll know in November

Lulu that’s an old story and it is anecdotal as it pertains to voting and I doubt it’s validity.

John G., are you aware that Gov. Palin charged rape victims for their own rape kits when she was the mayor of Wasilla?
I’ve heard that the McCain/Palin campaign would prefer that you not mention “rapists” during this campaign season, if you can help it.

Sarah Palin has an 80% approval rating as a governor, and has held it for over a year. The media crucifixion aside, that is an amazing accomplishment and a true indication of what she is capable of. Those she governs have given her an overwhelming voe of approval.
If you are choosing whether to buy a product from company X, who do you trust – Company X, competitive company Y, or the people who have used product X? I would say that those who have used product X are the best indicator of the product. Listening to the makers of competitive product Y is idiocy; of course they are going to put down product X.
80%+ approval rating as a US Governor.

Posted by: HawkTheSlayer | September 29, 2008, 1:46 pm 1:46 pm

No, John G. It’s a brand new story. Just came out. Military donations are higher for Obama-Biden than McCain-Palin.
All the soldiers who I know who are serving are for Obama.

Posted by: Lulu | September 29, 2008, 1:47 pm 1:47 pm

Its easy to get 80% approval rating when only 2% of the total population of Alaska are randomly polled for approval ratings—thats 5% of 680,000 people.

Someone must have told those voting for Palin to get on the Blogs – It is such the typical hatred spewing. Forget the facts, forget intelligence, just spout your hatred. After the last 30 years of listening and responding with like hatred – I Woke Up.
No more cronies, No to Greed destroying us. No More Rush! No More Fox!
Yes I am angry – angry at my own stupidity for all those years – and now look what has happened. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! Do you really think she is in the least bit qualified to be POTUS if something were to happen to McCain. I can’t believe you are willing to turn such a blind eye. – I do not hate her – I just truly believe she is not qualified and in some ways feel sorry for her. McCain – shame on you for not putting country first!!
And yes – Racism is alive and well in these UNITED STATES….Hatred.

Posted by: PAT | September 29, 2008, 1:49 pm 1:49 pm

Ravenhair – You are certainly entitled to your own opinion. However, I think a majority of white people have overcome the issue of race when it comes to accepting black people in leadership roles– especially younger white Americans.
Keep in mind that Al Gore lost the white vote by 8 percent to G.W. Bush, but he won the popular vote in 2000 by nearly 500,000 votes. My point is that if Barack only wins 40% of the white vote, but does well among Hispanics and a very energized black constituency who has registered to vote in record numbers, HE WILL WIN IN NOVEMBER!
Your “black friend” does not speak for the reality of today’s political climate. The fact that Obama made it this far is a testament to the fact that race is not an overriding factor to many white Americans!

“John G., are you aware that Gov. Palin charged rape victims for their own rape kits when she was the mayor of Wasilla”
Untrue. The Police Chief of Wasilla made a comment regarding insurance picked up by KOS and CNN. There is no proof any victim of rape was ever charged for a kit and in no way did this ever involve Governor Palin. In fact, the UCR reports show only one rape reported for the period mentioned and that was in Juneau.
Keep trying. I’m sure she has an unpaid parking ticket somewhere or a library book unreturned, but the surest sign that Palin is the woman for the job is that after spending all that money digging, you guys have come up with nothing. Bupkus. Zilch.
But it worked on Clinton so you’ll keep at it for the next four years.

Wow, Len. is “Troopergate” zilch? If so, why didn’t the First Dude answer his subpoena?
Why did the Governor refuse to cooperate after she promised transparency? Who has time to research her parking tickets when there is so much illegal activity on her time as a governor? How about all the stuff she took as gifts? Where are her tax returns? Where are her medical records? Why is she hidden away, in seclusion. If she is so ready to lead, why is she at “DEBATE CAMP?”

Posted by: Lulu | September 29, 2008, 2:02 pm 2:02 pm

Why won’t Palin hold a press conference? What is she hiding in Troopergate? What is Palin so afraid of?

So Ivy, if it is easy to get 80% approval when only 2% of the population in randomly polled; it must be real smooth to blow the horn of someone that has an approval rating of 52% of 2732 polled when the population in the US is 305,290,778. Got it!

Posted by: Lulu | September 29, 2008, 2:12 pm 2:12 pm

Lulu – Gov. Palin did not charge women for rape kits. This was a program started by the police chief long before she became mayor. By the time she became mayor, the state legislature was working on legislation to override such policies – Palin simply did not take a position on it as mayor but let the state system work to overturn it. While she was mayor, not one woman or victim’s group approached the city council or the mayor’s office with concern over the fact that the police chief charged women for rape kits – not one, so Palin focused her efforts on issues that mattered to her constituents. Generally, this is what we want in a leader – someone who listens to our concerns rather then tell us what we need to be concerned about.

“As a small business owner, I will be forced to let go about 20 workers in the event of Obama raising the business tax. ”
Under Clinton we payed more taxes. Bush cut taxes, at the same time our national debt and spending grow enormously and we end up in a financial crisis.
The key of our recovery depends whether our next president can make the right decision in restoring the confidence in our economy.
I still think our country has enormous potential that is waiting to being unlocked. The next president should not also reform Washington, but also reform corporate America.
I have worked for several companies in different countries and the problem is that our companies are badly managed. Taking shortcuts, going for short-term profits, but losing at the long-term. This has to be changed. Look at our automobile industry, even the Italians makes better, more efficient cars (and trust me, that is not a compliment)
This nationalistic baloney is hurting us more, we are blinded by all this flag waving crap instead of focusing on the real matters. And that is we are losing our competitive edge globally.

Lulu……so the answer is you can’t.

Posted by: john g. | September 29, 2008, 2:27 pm 2:27 pm

It’s this simple. No need for PHD. economists.
1. Clinton raised taxes in 1994 an cut spending
2. He submitted the first balanced budget of lifetime
3. The dollar stabilized and inflation was very low
4. We began a surplus in 1998.
Then GWB we elected and house and Senate turned Repub…
1. Economy was already turning down
2. GWB cut taxes
3. Repugnicant Congress allows PayGo rules to expire
4. We plunged into another deficit.
5. We went into recession until 3-2001-8/2001
6. Suffered 9-11-2001 attack (no recession after 9-11)
7. Repugnicant Congress went on spending spree
Result 5 more trillion in debt since Clinton.
Clinton was a raise taxes and cut spending President – 2 balanced budgets
Bush was a cut tax and borrow to increase spending President. – No balanced budgets
McCain has preached nothing drastically different from Bush other than cutting 16 billion that comprise all earmarks.
BTW: Aid to Israel comes in the form of an earmark.

Lulu – it’s a matter of public record, as are all city council meetings – that’s how I know. Simply look at the city council records – they’re all online. When you have a problem in your hometown, how do you handle it? Wouldn’t you approach the city council during a public meeting and raise the issue with them so that it can be addressed? Victims groups do it all the time – it’s how things get done. No one in Wasilla had a problem with this policy, and the state Legislature was addressing it anyway – Palin simply stepped back and let the state do its job. Using it to paint her as some sort of zealot is nothing more than distorting the facts.

Symphony Girl – well said and congratulations and thank you for your service to our country and for your attitude. I have always pretty much run my life like you do. My house isn’t paid for yet, but I’m close and I could pay if off if I wanted to – but I need at least one tax deducation because, like you, all my bills are paid, I use one credit card for convenience and pay it off every month. I could drive around in a very expensive car, but I don’t – mine is an economy car that is 11 years old and still in good running condition. I work from home so I don’t need it except to go to the grocery store and run errands, which I consolidate so I’m not wasting gas.
I, too, am sick and tired of the dems raising taxes just to give it to the dead beats. Do you know Obama plans to send .7 of our budget (that’s BILLIONS) to Africa and to double foreign aid. How does that make the hard working people feel when they get up in the morning and know they are off to work to support a bunch of people not even in their own country. Obama says he’ll give tax breaks to the middle class – what he doesn’t tell you is how he’s going to stick it to you in other taxes – which for many will add up to about 60% of their income.

Zulu – by the way, there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that people in Wasilla were afraid of their city council or their mayor. Why would you even imply that when city council records show just the opposite – that people in Wasilla attended meetings and frequently spoke out about issues that bothered them – the police chief’s policy just wasn’t one of the issues that bothered people.

Posted by: Annoyed with the hysteria- | September 29, 2008, 2:39 pm 2:39 pm

DougH….. and do you know how Clinton “balanced the budget” … he did it on the backs of our hard working military – he put us in danger with his military cuts – an if he had kept his personal parts where they belonged, he would have done his job and gotten OBL (he had him three times and refused to get him because he was in the middle of the Monica mess and he didn’t want the possibility of failure because he was already in too much trouble) and we wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in today. Nascar34 says,“the novice (Palin) is more than scary, but (Biden) is a dangerous “wannabe” who can be bought by terrorists.” That’s a stretch. This is not: both Palin and Iran’s President Mahmood Ahmadi-Najad both believe God is guiding him/her toward the biblical ‘End of days’. Oh, and creationist Palin thinks our Universe is only 6,000 years old. That’s scary.

Posted by: LetUsLeaf | September 29, 2008, 3:39 pm 3:39 pm

Lulu,
I don’t know where her tax and med records are. And I don’t think anyone honestly cares. I really didn’t care about Obama’s or Biden’s or McCain’s tax records. They’re all not my first choices to run this country but I don’t think they’re cheating on their taxes. The Clintons on the other hand, yes, I wanted Hillary to release her records. She’s lied and cheated about everything else so yes, I wanted to see her records.
The med records are important but what exactly are you looking for. Obama’s med records didn’t reveal that he’s a chain smoker and although McCain is no spring chicken, his med records didn’t reveal that he’s about to shuffle off this mortal coil either so what are you looking for.
Troopergate. We don’t know that Palin is not cooperating. Much of this could be ordered to be heard in camera and in that case the press will not ever know. Honestly, I don’t smell scandal here although I WOULD like to know if she’s abused her power because I hate women like that.
GOP and the terrorist attorney. The GOP in total would not have a hand in sending in any attorney. Who at the GOP sent in the attorney and where did Katie Couric tell you that the Republican National Party sent in a ‘terrorist attorney’?
Todd Palin and The Case of the Subpoena. What subpoena didn’t he answer?
The Case of the Empty Governor’s Mansion. Where is it written that Sarah Palin has to live there? Why is that important? Maybe she’s more productive elsewhere. Was the mansion undergoing renovations? Where’s the scandal?
The Case of the State Per Diem. So the f%^k what? You think your Dem buddies don’t cash in on perks far greater than a lousy per diem? No one’s getting rich on a per diem honey.
The Case of the Head GOP like totally hating Sarah: And? Where’s the scandal? You think the head of the GOP not liking Sarah Palin is a big deal? Tell me you’re just here for show and not in charge of anything. How long have you been involved in politics? No party including your precious Dems are totally united. Case in point: Howard Dean, head of the Democrat National Party hates… I mean HATES the Clintons. Did all he could NOT to support Hill’s run. You think it’s a scandal that the head of the GOP in Alaska doesn’t like Sarah Palin? What did you think when Al Gore ran for president and couldn’t even win his own state?
The Case of Aerial Wolf Slaughter. Did you read that question before Katie Couric gave it to you? Are you at all up to date on Alaska wildlife and the dangers it poses? Were the wolves overpopulated? Alaska isn’t Oregon, sweetie… dangerous wildlife, wildlife that if over populated enough and hungry enough WILL kill your entire family, is a way of life in even metro areas. There are many reasons why she favors it but I’d talk to the Alaska Fish and Wildlife first to find out if these wolves are over populated. Wolves aren’t tame little furry creatures, they’re dangerous predators.
What else? Please tell me that besides TrooperGate which is pretty much Much Ado about Nothing and her results from her latest Pap Smear, you have something else more scandalous than wolves.

It is TRULY FRIGHTENING that John McCain has ONCE AGAIN gotten his COUNTRIES CONFUSED. It was AFGHANISTAN that was a failed state, NOT PAKISTAN. A couple of months ago he referred to the IRAQ/AFGHANISTAN border. There is no such border; a big country named IRAN stands between them. IS MCCAIN SENILE, OR HAS HE ALWAYS BEEN THIS CONFUSED?

* If you graduate near the top of your class from Harvard Law School then you are an elitist who’s not a real American and certainly not qualified to be President of the United States; finish close to last in your graduating class from the Naval Academy or attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you’re well grounded and the most qualified to hold the two highest offices in the U.S.
************** If you spend 3 years as a community organizer, become the first black president of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees, you’re a not-to-be trusted pointy-headed intellectual and don’t have any real leadership experience.
************** If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, you’re the “real” leader and qualified to become the country’s second highest ranking executive.
************** If you can look out your window and claim you can see Russia, you’re a foreign policy expert; however, if you’ve served on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, traveled the world and actually met foreign heads of state, you’re not only an elitist “celebrity” who cannot relate to “real” Americans, but completely unqualified to be president of the United States.

Bob Johnson,
You’re worried about McCain getting Afghanistan mixed up with Pakistan but you see, perhaps, nothing wrong with that fact that Joe Biden thinks FDR was president in 1929 and that television was available then?

How ridiculous! No worries mate. Biden is a friendly guy, who reaches out to people when he’s campaigning. But no mistake about it, he’s all business at a debate.

Lets be real, anyone who has seen Sarah speak knows deep down that she is ill prepared to be VP much less President. I understand following party lines as I have always done as well. However, in light of the condition of the country at this time, it becomes obvious that Republican rule has brought us to this point. Not an Obama fan, however, compared to what is being offered, I’ve switched to the other side of the isle. The main reason is the inability to ever admit a mistake has been made. I feel if these are the decisions being made before office, bad decisions will be made after being elected.

You know, this is all looking more and more like the 1932 election, when Republican Herbert Hoover called Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt an inexperienced lightweight and then a “madman”. Hoover and his GOP predecessors had RUINED the American economy by their recklessness and inaction, and the GOP tried desperately to blame Democrats – even in advance – for all that they had already done.
The GOP controlled Congress for 12 years ending 2006, yet they now blame all the damage they did on “Clinton and the Democrats”. It is plain bull-pucky!
The GOP and their supporters are utterly divorced from reality: they have repeated their doctrines of devils over and over so many times that they have hypnotized themselves into believing that black is white and red is blue. GOP politicians seem incapable of facing the simple fact that their great and exalted “theories” of economics simply do not work, and they have been proven utterly false. The are unable to fathom that Ronald Reagan bankrupted first California and then the United States as a whole. They cannot see that George Bush Sr. made private pacts with foreign heads of state for personal gain, and then nearly got himself killed because he had to renege on one of these treasonous promises. They cannot see that George Bush Jr. was more committed to revenge on his daddy’s estranged business partner than to protecting the American people from actual threats. They cannot see that their own motivations are both racist and elitist, and so they accuse their opponents of both.
It is one of the hallmark evidences of mental instability when someone keeps doing the same thing over and over, always expecting a different outcome. Herbert Hoover firmly believed that if he just kept doing what his Republican principles told him to do, eventually the economy would heal itself from the Great Depression. In this, Hoover was the very epitome of a madman – but he projected his madness on all who disagreed with him, so labeling FDR as a madman instead.
Modern GOP supporters are essentially the same: the GOP under the “leadership” of Armey, DeLay, Gingrich, Bush, Cheney and a gaggle of other thieves and felons, has all but utterly ruined both the U.S. economy and our national sovereignty. And yet their supporters blame all these offenses upon the Democratic opposition. It is all the height of madness: “If we keep doing what has never worked before – over and over – EVENTUALLY it just HAS TO work!”
They are all INSANE!

Americans should be tired of being the BUTT of the joke to other countries around the world. We’re supposed to be the most powerful country in the free world, but given the last eight years we have come off as the stupidest and most laughable. Bush has put America in the spot light for ridule, even among Americans. Its embassing for our president to be known as a Donkeys Ass. Its time for America to get our super power standings back and get the respect we use to have in the world before Bush. It is important to ask the tough questions of the VP.They won’t have a script when they have to talk to other heads of state. They’ll have to respond with answers off the top of their head and know what they are taking about. No other country is going to give her a pass because she’s a woman. I’m not quite sure what McCains idea was when he picked Palin as his running mate. There were more qualified women in his party than her. He saids she is the most popular govenor in the country but I never heard od her until he introduced her at the GOP convention. Where was she popular on Mars? This lady that no one has heard of. Gov. of 650,000 people less than two yrs. Before that mayor od less than 7,000 people. Being able to see Russia from her back door so to speak. A no substance media ploy meeting heads of state(who do they think is stupid, her or the America people). Now they want to soften the debate questions so her can stay scripted. This is the person they want us to have confidence in potentionly who could have to step into the president’s seat? McCain can’t even look into the face of his opponent in a debate about what their plans are for America. How is he going to react when faced with the job of dealing with other heads of states? Be condescending and not look them in the face to state his position and act as through they don’t exist. Some countries think that is being offensive and disrespectful of their being. McCain isn’t fit to lead America. Unless he is running for geriatic’s president. America needs a young vibrant visionary thinker for a change in the way government does business for America. Some one that is in touch with the backbone of America, the middle class, that keeps this country together. And a VP that can handle things if needed. Not have a look of the deer caught in the headlights. Well she said she didn’t blink.
We have been in deep dodo for eight years (as we can see in these latest crisis). Ask yourselves,” do we need to go deeper”? We’re getting rid of DUMB, do we repeat with DUMBER and DUMBEST. WAKE UP AMERICA! Enough with the STUPIDITY!

I expect Biden to do well in the debate, and I believe that he will show the proper amount of respect. I expect Palin to be typically vindictive, stupid, and an embarassment to the American people. How could McCain have made such a dumb mistake!

Good luck!Bill and Hillary would have wiped this country clean of this bull that we are going through but you want a fresh face with no background and an old face with a sad history but no results! Man i’m going to laugh when Obama wins and you see him for the true color he is corrupt and stupid! OH OH AND I’M AN INDEPENDENT SO YES I WILL VOTE FOR OBAMA .

Joe Biden was chosen for VP, for his honesty free spirit and his experience!
He’s supposed to make a point when is needed. Sarah Plain was chosen for the position after only one meeting .The decisive factor was only the women’s vote and the prerequisite to be the John McCain cheerleader. She makes only scripted interviews and has very thin Resume. Sarah Plain VP? Thanks but not thanks!
The Republican ticket!
John McCain (We bomb everything)
Sarah Palin (I can see Russia from my house)
His aged and ambitious
She is young and motivated.
For him is the last chance to be President.
For her the last chance to be his cheerleader.
Their story SPIN, LIES and LIPSTICK
The last two days of the campaign confirmed that McCain -Plain are the most inadequate people to run this country.

dvine – Nothing to show for it? Are you serious? So when Clinton said repeatedly how influencal McCain was to his administration, it meant nothing? When Kerry wanted McCain as a running mate it was because McCain had a career of doing nothing? The bills that McCain partnered with Kennedy or Feinstein on amount to nothing? I strongly urge that you visit http://www.senate.gov to get your facts straight.

I don’t care if Palin can blab this fact or that. I loved when she told Katie “I’ll find some and get back to you” at least she was honest and just didn’t spout off stupid “stuff”. I’ve read lots about Gov. Palin and she is great. I think her heart is where it should be.
I don’t care how she does in the debate, I’m still voting for McCain!

I think Palin will do just fine. Biden has always been a windbag and hopefully will make some dumb remarks during the debate (the odds favor it). Since the bar has been so low for Palin by the left wing media she surprise everyone. At least she’s honest, which is something Obama, Pelosi, Dodd, Biden and Barney Frank will NEVER be.

Wow – everytime I come here I am blown away by the horrid comments about Sen. Obama – the degree of religious and racial hatred is amazing. It’s the 21st century – the earth is overpopulated and warming rapidly – and people still judge a candidate by the color of his skin. This country is doomed.

I’m a socialist liberal who believes paying taxes is patriotic, man-made global warming is real (even though many scientists think it isn’t), that govt funded healthcare is a right not an option, that community organizers have executive experience, that ACORN is totally legit and has been framed for voter fraud, that Pelosi, Frank and Reid are non-partisan, that all people are victims of this or that and need to be helped by the government. I’ll be voting for Obama/Biden because they match my beliefs to a tee.

I look at this blog and I see lots of sheeple blaming either a rep or a dem specifically for all that is wrong. I could go on and on to speak about everything that is up a creek at this point like the lack of moral compass in this country. We all need to unite on a sense of common sense which none of our representatives have. I tend to vote republican but I also am pro-choice. I look at all the issues very closely and realize that just cause I lean in one direction doesnt mean that is the way I will vote cause I choose not to be a sheeple and just follow the herd. There are too many people that I talk with on both sides of the fence who just dont get it. The out of touch mentality in this country is everything that is wrong and I ask all of you to step back and think about what you really agree with when you listen to the candidates. Just cause you are in the party doesnt mean you cant question it. Wake up America, the world is not black and white and every issue has a lot of different sides to it. As citizens maybe we need to quit pointing fingers and take a look at ourselves cause lets face it, most americans are ignorant and just want to blame someone else for their short comings. The people are also to blame for this economy failing. Why would you think you can get a 250k mortgage for 1k per month. My 100k mortg costs 850 so for another 150 I can get a house worth 1.5x’s more. Sounds like a deal, ill take it. Oh darn I didnt read the fine print and now lost my home, like red foreman always says.

Governor Palin is a working mother who decided she needed to get involved.First the PTA,then City Council, Mayor, and then Governor. She rose against all odds of having a chance. She fought right and wrong and even went against her own party when she saw corruption. She shook up the status quo. Shes an average American women that wanted to make a better world. Shes accomplished more in her short career in politics than most people in a lifetime of Government. It doesnt matter how much she knows about foreign policy, or how many world leaders she knows by name. Shes very smart and intelligent and is a quick learner. She knows how to get things accomplished, unlike Congress. She is an average American that can change Washington for the better. When she sees corruption, she conquers it. I do not want a VP with a political science education. Its time for an average American to change Government.Governor Palin, be yourself in the Debates and dont pretend to know everything thats asked of you. Show the true you like you have in Alaska. America needs you.

Yes, it DOES matter whether or not she has foreign policy knowledge in an age when we’re at war. And it DOES matter that she has an understanding of economics when the stock market dropped 777 points today. Her interviews with Couric showed that she is out of her depth.
She may be a charismatic, hard-working, intelligent woman, but she is not ready to be VP and potentially the president. Not by a long shot.

SO if the MSM says Obama ‘won” the first debate because he didn’t screw up and “held his own” therefore “tie goes to rookie”,, I WONDER will those same standards apply to VP race. If Palin, holds her own, will she be declared default winner by Obama-loving media????

Posted by: tescondo | September 29, 2008, 8:22 pm 8:22 pm

Patriot -
I don’t understand why people try to defend her by saying she’s only running for VP. That’s true, but given Senator McCain’s age and health history, the chance that she might have to take over the presidency due to an emergency is greater than it might normally be. That means Senator McCain should’ve been very cautious in choosing his running mate.
I certainly hope Senator McCain stays in good health, but he should’ve made sure the country is in good hands in a worst case scenario. In my opinion, she is just not qualified.

I left the Republican Party not because they stay united but that they stick together regardless of whether it is prudent to do so. Even at the risk of seriously damaging main street they would rather stick together and support a lost cost than sacrifice for their country. Don’t make me have second thoughts about this party also. Too often your group can’t remain united on anything. You can agree on 29 of 30 issues and yet splinter off because someone doesn’t get their way. From the Republicans who take it to extreme on one side many Democrats take it far left. Not every demand can me met. Some are too spoiled to give in to achieve a common goal. How about just supporting Mr. Biden and keep your doubts to yourselves. It’s not Mr. Biden I’m worried about. He’ll do fine. It’s the people who claim to be his supporters that worry me!

Posted by: dan kolich | September 29, 2008, 10:13 pm 10:13 pm

It is ridiculous that we need to have a discussion about treating Palin with kid gloves for the upcoming debate. If Biden were debating Hillary Clinton, Diane Feinstein, Nancy Pelosi or Condoleeza Rice, then, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. If Palin were as strong, intelligent, articulate and knowledgeable as the Republicans try to paint her, then, she would be able to hold her own against ANYONE in a debate. She is running for the 2nd highest position in our country. Shouldn’t she be able to handle a debate? The GOP knows that she isn’t ready for the VP position, hell by now, most people know that she isn’t ready. The vice presidential candidates are important in this election as McCain is old and has battled cancer and Obama could be a larger target because of his skin color. How could McCain possibly be putting ‘country first’ with Palin as his running mate? It’s more like ‘evangelicals first’. The love affair with Palin speeds faster to its demise with every interview she has. At the Repub convention she came out throwing punches, well, now i hope that she can take them too. Forget the kid glove treatment, it is time for the boxing gloves.

In a true forum, sure Biden should be able to go for Palin’s jugular. This isn’t a normal forum thanks to Obama’s pig/lipstick comment. While we all know that he wasn’t truly referring to Palin, the image was out there and it has to be one of the stupidest things he could have said. He essentially set the limitations and tone that Biden now has to abide by in the VP Debate. The GOP did not ask Biden to go easy on Palin but he’d better or he’ll be seen as sexist bully thanks to Obama’s already blundering. Now, because of Biden’s loooong history of verbal mistakes, foul-ups, bleeps and blunders, plus the Oh So Recent history gaffe he made with Katie Couric, Biden has to watch his p’s and q’s double time. Palin has been undergoing intense preparation for the debate and the Dems are biting their nails like nervous parents waiting up on prom night. As for the Schmoe who is alluding to Obama’s substantial lead… if there is ONE thing McCain knows is that early bumps and leads can be demolished in a weekend. He proved that when he announced Palin’s nom shortly after Obama concluded his LoveMe Fest. You think the Maverick can’t continue to pull the rug out from under Obama? You people were totally looking the other way full of the glory of your messiah, the Grand Poohbah Obama. McCain stole in and snatched your prayer rugs out from under all of you. So Obama’s ahead. Big deal. What McCain did before, he can do again. This VP Debate will only showcase Palin’s strengths and show Joe Biden doing his best to keep his feet out of his mouth.

Posted by: SymphonyGirl | September 30, 2008, 10:25 am 10:25 am

Foreclosure, Excuse me. But Joe Biden was NOT chosen for anything other than he was the Clinton’s choice to doom Obama. Obama didn’t have the ##### to choose Kathleen Sibelius as he wanted and he didn’t have the ##### to stand up and announce Sibelius over Hillary Clinton. So he chose the Clinton’s Joe Biden. And Biden was selected for two reasons: he was a “safe” older, whiter Clinton Crony with a history of sticking his foot in his mouth. A vote for Obama/Biden is a vote for another Clinton administration.
Palin was chosen because she was the smartest, most dynamic female choice for Vice President. McCain showed America that he’s not afraid to choose a woman and not afraid to make tough choices and stand by them. Your Obama boy has no chance in November.

I don’t think the word ‘female’ should be considered in this debate, like someone said if it was Hillary they would just debate like it was a qualified candidate. The problem is Palin isn’t qualified so we have to walk around on pins & needles? I don’t think so, she needs to be treated like anyone else and if she can’t stand up to this debate how will she ever stand up to any problems in the country? Just let us get the truth out about her and end this so we can finally forget he actually chose her and she could be the next President. That is the scariest part of all of this election. My 21 year old son could run a country better than her.

Say what you will about McCain’s pick for V.P.. He could have done better for sure. It would seem that he and Obama have a simular problem in that they migrate toward town idiots (like Biden, farikan and he likes) and folks with thin resume (like Palin and Bush). Not to mention that Obama’s resume is not all that impressive and as thin as Palin’s. Do you ever feel like you’ve died and ended up in a Warners Bros. cartoon? Sarah Palin has been the most popular and effective governor currently in country. She is new to the national scene, and to any objective observer, the media is biased against her (as evidenced by their disinterest in Biden”s gaffes which are far more profound than Palin”s.) Gov. Palin should return to just being herself, that”s what got her the popularity and confidence here in Alaska. Genuineness counts. I don”t expect to convince anyone of anything but I do know that those of us who know Gov. Palin feel she is being unfairly slammed.

I want my president to be decisive and to have a good judgment.
I want my president to say “God bless America” not be a follower and surrogate of a hateful pastor who declares “God damn America” from the pulpit.
I want my president to respect small town people like me who happen to be religious.
I want my president to have a spouse who has always been proud of being an American (not just because her husband became a presidential candidate).
I want a president who can make me a proud American and not one who keeps telling me that the glory days of my beloved country are over.
I want a president who tells me that the fundamentals of American greatness are still solid.
I want a president who can stand with the motto: “My country! right or Wrong!”
I want a president who will never belittle America and the American people when he is with foreigner leaders and people.
I am a proud democrat and will always be one. However, what my party leadership did in the primaries is inexcusable. The careless Democratic party leaders pushed Senator Hillary Clinton, the one with a certain chance to defeat McCain, out of the race.
Above my being a democrat, I am a proud American. Therefore, on November 4, I will be crossing party lines and vote for Senator John McCain. McCain at least has the experience and the record to be a great president. His personal story and achievements make me proud of my country.
That’s the kind of president I want.
McCain 2008. Hillary 2012.

Just don’t hitch your wagon of hope to any of the horses in the running. In the end none of them will deliver that dream. These moronic politicians will go to the extreme to assure that the next president will fail, with or without their direct assistance. We have seen this behavior since the days of Richard Nixon and its only gotten worse. Their interest is centered in their own self discribed needs (a need to keep their positions of power and sell off favors to special interest – they all do it); the common men and women be damned. When judging the candidates (all four of them) we have to look at our country as a whole, and not just what’s in it for me. I look at the media bias toward the Obama/Biden ticket and I’m sickened. The strengths and values of our country lie within the RNC. We need to stand up and say no to the liberals, whether they be on the Hill or on the evening news. A responsible American (not World citizen) will do the appropriate research and find the facts. The most important fact that you’ll find is that the DNC is trying to take away our fundamental rights, our right to free speech, free trade, our right to prosper. To cap executive pay? That dissolves our capitalist environment. To make the taxpayers pay for a corrupt system put in place by a Democratic president? Wrong! I applaud the brave men and women that listened to the American public and voted against the bailout plan. The plan that was voted on had liberal spins and earmarks added to the original. They saw through this and voted with clear conscience. And, in an election year, they all took a risk in their vote. The Obama/Biden ticket promises lower taxes on the middle class. Wake up people! The higher taxes on those making more and on corporations will be recouped by higher prices on the products we buy. I read the polls (put out by the media, you be the judge of the accuracy) and they all say that McCain took a hit by sticking to his morals. So be it, the true patriot and American hero will persevere in the end.

“Shes an average American women that wanted to make a better world. Shes accomplished more in her short career in politics than most people in a lifetime of Government. It doesnt matter how much she knows about foreign policy, or how many world leaders she knows by name. Shes very smart and intelligent and is a quick learner. She knows how to get things accomplished, unlike Congress”.
A person made this comment earlier in the post and it kind of disturbed me. Everything that was stated above is exactly what the Republicans are ridiculing Obama about….his inexperience, being an “average” American, supposedly not smart enough, and as McCain said in the debate “not understanding the difference between tactical and strategic”. I believe Americans have become biased instead of looking at the big picture. How is one characteristic good for the goose, but when the other possesses the same characteristic, it is not good for the opposing party.
I will be voting for Obama/Biden come November. Nevertheless, I have been very open-minded concerning what all candidates stand for. In my opinion, Palin was a bad choice. She really has no clue on what is going on. And I am sure if this were a Hillary, there wouldn’t be any stipulations on media converage and so forth. I was really hoping for a back in the day Ali vs. Tyson fight for the White House, but I have had to settle for a USC Trojan vs Notre Dame football game and we all know who would win that game.

Right on Buster! Only an idiot with a low IQ would think that the Bush/Cheney administration and the Republicans who controlled Congress for the first 6 years of Bush’s presidency were the main source of corruption in Washington. Those joke Democrats don’t want you to read the record of how McCain/Palin has shaken up the corruption in Washington. They want to distract you into smelling the coffee, and possibly spilling coffee on the records which might make them harder to read. Those Democrats are so stupid and low IQ, they probably think “theirselves” isn’t a proper word. Idiots!

Palin is not qualified to be the VP… just like Obama is not qualified to be the President!

Exactly Tyler! Listening to Obama talk about the issues and Palin talk about issues, you could almost think you were listening to the same person, apart from what they say and the way they say it, that is if Palin were half black and a man, or Obama were a white woman from Alaska.

Hey backwards dog, you’re smarter than the average Democrat. I used the word theirselves just to speak on your level. You and the others should be careful, because you might get what you ask for and it won’t be a pretty site. You like to bash Bush but you need to realize that our country hasn’t been attacked since 9/11. So, actually you might owe him your life. It takes (if I may use your word) “idiots” not to realize that. I’m sure you will have something smart to say back to me and its expected. Whats really funny is hearing Democrats defend other Democrats and with a straight face. Just remember, if you are a true American and want change, vote Mccain/Palin. Washington is full of corruption and greed. I might add that both sides are to blame. They spend all their time for the next re-election. Obama has so much tied to him, its just the same thing, over again. We need truth in government, and Mccain/Palin will offer that big time.

Backwards dog,I had better check my IQ.(lol) I misread you. Sorry about that. I sure hope Sarah knocks one out of the park tonight. I really like her and I do believe with all the corruption in Washington, the time is right for the Mccain/Palin ticket. A new face with the country first slogan that you can believe.

By the way, Buster, don’t worry about the debate tonight. Palin will most certainly be declared the winner!

Wow, I have been censored! My two previous comments were there and now they’re gone. No explanation, just gone. I guess I’m in the wrong place. It’s sad when a true American like me can’t explain why he supports McCain/Palin like my friend Buster! That’s not the American way. Further, people coming along later might read Buster’s comments and think he’s talking to himself like a crazy man. That’s not fair to me or Buster. Well, so long Buster. Nice meeting you and good luck!
