Dems Call Palin Experience Ad ‘Ridiculous’
ABC News’ Teddy Davis and Hope Ditto report: A McCain ad contrasting Sarah Palin’s experience with that of Barack Obama was called "borderline ridiculous" on Wednesday by a top adviser to the Democratic presidential nominee.
"I think the assertion is borderline ridiculous," said Obama adviser Robert Gibbs. "I mean, look, if executive experience is truly important on the Republican side, maybe she should run for president and John McCain can be her vice president."
"The Republicans, in a meeting on a deck in Sedona . . . took the experience argument out of their repertoire," he added, referring to last week’s meeting in Arizona in which McCain offered Palin a spot on the Republican ticket. "It’s just silly to make that argument now in any way, shape, or form. . . They’re making last week’s argument in this week’s television ad and if they want to do that, I hope they do it for the next nine weeks."
Gibbs lobbed his attack during a Wednesday morning conference call with reporters organized by the Democratic National Committee. The call was the DNC’s first of the week. Calls which Democrats had planned for Monday and Tuesday were cancelled in the wake of Hurricane Gustav.
In a morning e-mail to reporters, the McCain campaign announced on Wednesday that it will launch a television ad "directly comparing Gov. Palin’s executive experience as a governor who oversees 24,000 state employees, 14 statewide cabinet agencies and a $ 10 billion budget to Barack Obama’s experience as a one-term junior senator from Illinois."
The McCain campaign has not disclosed where the ad will air or how much money it is putting behind it. But a McCain spokesman told ABC News that "if all goes as planned" it will be released before Wednesday’s network newscasts which come on at 6:30 pm ET.
"Governor Palin has a record of shaking up the status quo and making change for the people of her state," McCain spokesman Brian Rogers told ABC News. "Barack Obama has words. He has speeches. That’s what we’re going to be hitting. That’s going to be the point of the ad. We’re looking forward to this conversation."
Beyond reacting to the new McCain ad, Gibbs also sought to set expectations for the Republican National Convention speech that Palin will deliver Wednesday evening at the Xcel Center in St. Paul, Minn.
The Obama adviser said he expected Palin to give a "great speech," adding that she is "likely to bring the convention floor out of its chairs."
Gibbs argued, however, that Palin would not be able to enumerate many differences between Bush-Cheney and McCain-Palin.
He also attacked the Alaska governor for her one-time support for the so-called "bridge to nowhere," for employing a lobbying firm to get earmarks for the town of Wasilla, Alaska, and for receiving a vice presidential endorsement from indicted Republican Sen. Ted Stevens.
Gibbs was joined on the Wednesday call by DNC adviser Jamal Simmons. The Democratic strategist accused Tuesday’s Republican convention speakers of violating McCain’s goal of focusing on service and not partisan attacks.
"It seems Republicans have gone back to their partisan hats," said Simmons.
Gibbs also hammered McCain campaign manager Rick Davis for telling The Washington Post on Tuesday that the 2008 election is not about issues.
"Apparently, the speakers last night got that memo as well," said Gibbs, referring to the Davis interview. "Because throughout last night, speaker after speaker neglected to talk" about the issues that matter to Americans: "creating jobs, providing tax cuts for middle-class America, passing true energy independence, making health care more affordable."
UPDATE:
The McCain campaign has now released the script for "Alaska Maverick," its 30-second ad contrasting Palin’s credentials as an agent of reform with those of Obama. The ad will air Wednesday evening on CNN and the Fox News Channel. After Wednesday, it will air in what the McCain campaign describes as "key states". The campaign will not disclose how much money it is putting behind the ad.
Watch it here.
SCRIPT:
ANNCR: The Journal says: “Governor Palin’s credentials as an agent of reform exceed Barack Obama’s.”
They’re right.
She “has a record of bi-partisan reform.”
He’s the Senate’s “most liberal.”
She “took on the oil producers.”
He gave big oil billions in subsidies and giveaways.
She’s “earned a reputation as a reformer.”
His reputation? Empty words.

“Gibbs argued, however, that Palin would not be able to enumerate many differences between Bush-Cheney and McCain-Palin.”
I have to disagree with that one. She could, if so predisposed.
After all, to the best of my knowledge, Bush and Cheney never advocated secession from the Union for Texas or Wyoming.
If McCain was looking to put a little space between his campaign and Bush/Cheney, this could do it.

Considering where the Wasilla and Alaska budget deficits went after she was the decider there is a clear link with her and Bush both suffering from terminal cases of deficit inattention disorder. The only difference is that the Bush version has the red ink in Chinese.

If Obama campaign do not acknowledge the Palin’s experience, then it is very rough road ahead for them. Obama campaign play down the Hillary’s experience and they are doing the same for Palin. There is a pattern here and voters are not stupid to understand the difference.

The Dems gleefully attack Palin’s experience, but not once, NOT ONCE, do they offer any defense of Obama’s experieence, the man at the TOP of their ticket, who needs to be ready from day one, but he is far from that.
Obama himself tried to defend it, suggesting that his management of his own campaign constitutes “experiecne”.
Seriously, Obama, SERIOUSLY? So it’s not executive experience, not legislative expereience, but now…CAMPAIGN EXPERIENCE that makes you ready for President?
Obama will go down in history as a huge political knock knock joke, what a clown.

there were many more qualified republican women that should have maybe been looked into…
this pick shows that mccain lacks a basic understanding and judgment of the seriousness of what hte presidency is…
mccain took a political gamble on his first important decision…
he was right not to select lieberman, that would have upset his base…
but this pick was not vetted, not thought out, and is a pander….

Where did you roam?
She took off with Johnny
But, she’s soon comin’ home
He took her down there
It’s all sun and no snow
Her life’s all shinin’
With lovers’ new glow
Oh Sarah, Oh Sarah
It’s scary down there
There’s tabloids and Oprah
They’ll mention your hair
Pollsters and pundits
Are goin’ to scream
Though they can’t catch a salmon
And ain’t “Mushed!” a team
Oh Sarah, Oh Sarah
It’s like a quiz show.
They’ll laugh and they’ll point
Every time you don’t know.
They’ll laugh at your voice
And they’ll laugh at your clothes
They’ll laugh at the glasses
At the end of your nose
Oh Sarah, Oh Sarah
You shudda said, “No”
When John started huggin’
And kissin’ you so
John only needs you
For one body part
And I’m tellin you, Sarah
It isn’t your heart
Oh Sarah, Come home
We’re all missin’ you so
Don’t wait till November
You’ll miss half the snow

Sarah Palin’s experience in foreign affairs meets and probably exceeds that of Barack Obama. That’s why the Dems are trashing Palin so badly. They look like fools. Palin lied within the first 650 words in her introduction to America. Her real motto is not ‘Country First’, it’s ‘Alaska First’ (unless Country means Alaska…).
The RNC doesn’t want to talk about issues because they are on the wrong side of the issues.

Obama’s training as a community organizer (getting people out to vote), is a time consuming thing (as I do that), it’s rewarding. It’s not a huge responsibility compared to being the administrator of a large state balancing a budget and making a payroll. Obama’s team of professionals are running his campaign. That’s not the same. I think Palin should debate Obama. What change is Biden? If he runs for president in the next election, would that be change. What’s his age? He’s just an insider (hello) to shore up Obama’s foreign affairs experience. Dems disrespected Mrs. Clinton for him and Biden. Everyone knows that. Sarah takes on the same old system and she’s being attacked by the political government liberal machine. Wouldn’t it be great if she got in and opened up all sorts of investigations on house/senate members from BOTH parties. Can they be scared? Or is it her views that fear? I hope she gets in. God Bless this American hero and this strong reformer, Palin.

Tonight’s speech will tell us NOTHING about Palin except that she can read a teleprompter detailing a script that others running the campaign have written for her. I would like to see her take a legal pad and write her own speech as Barack Obama does! The possibility of her as VP, and potentially President, is truly frightening! A political expediency that hopefully will cause McCain (who I used to like)to lose the election!
Posted by: Lori | September 3, 2008, 12:45 pm 12:45 pm
If Sarah Palin is a joke, so is Barack Obama. Neither has much experience in foreign affairs. The difference is: Palin is the Vice presidential candidate, while Obama is at the top of the ticket. THE WRONG GUY IS AT THE TOP OF THE DEMOCRATIC TICKET!!!! That’s why you’re all freaking out over the Palin nomination. McCain doesn’t have to get all of Hillary supporters. He doesn’t have to get a majority of them. He doesn’t even have to get a substantial minority. He only needs a few percent, and judging from the anger I see in women, he’s going to get them.

I find the hate smears against Sarah are ridiculous. I find that people who attack her are attempting to cover for O’bama’s own self esteem issues or their own. Perhaps you all should try to vette your own candidate and worry about his connection to Ayres, his lawsuit (obamacrimes.com), and perhaps his sexist issues. Keep protecting him, when states like Pennsylvania bounce him out of the race, maybe you all will learn. The only reason he was historic is because he is an African American. NOT an African American who accomplished ANYTHING!!!!That is the record!

I don’t think any experience besides being the President qualifies you as “having Presidential experience”.
Judgment, good temperament, and a good knowledge of the Constitution are important, though.
Based on that, though neither side has “experience”, I’m voting for Obama, as he is calm, intellectual, and used to be a Constitutional law teacher.
Posted by: Emily | September 3, 2008, 12:50 pm 12:50 pm
I don’t think it’s borderline rediculous. It’s totally rediculous.
Obama spend years organizing and leading people in a city far larger in population than Alaska. That was before he went to the Illinois Legislature and then to the U.S. Senate. Sarah Palin is simply not qualified. She was chosen because the GOP would not accept someone who wasn’t a “Social Conservative” (which actually means “Christian Theocrat”) and he wouldn’t accept Romney or Huckabee. So he chose Palin.
She’s the worst parts of Dan Quayle and James Watt combined. Hopefully the American public will get to know her. If they do, it’s Obama in a landslide (if they actually count the votes.)
Posted by: Larry-T | September 3, 2008, 12:50 pm 12:50 pm
Lori, what’s “truly frightening” for you is the very real possiblity that your Messiah is going to lose in November. BTW, Sarah Palin IS writing her own speech, and I don’t know where you ever got the idea that your Messiah writes his own speeches. He doesn’t. You’re into the cult so deep that you can’t see daylight anymore.
Posted by: Hokie Freak's Better Half | September 3, 2008, 12:51 pm 12:51 pm
If people want to try to pull out the “executive experience” tagline against Obama, then the same should be applied to McCain. McCain didn’t govern over any cities in Arizona, nor did he govern the state of Arizona.
So the “executive experience” tagline can be played both ways, which is why comparing her to Obama is ridiculous..

The Alaska governor walked through the nearly empty Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul and spent about 10 minutes checking out the podium where she’ll give her prime-time acceptance speech as Sen. John McCain’s vice presidential nominee.
Palin told reporters that she feels “great.”
“I’m excited to speak to Americans. This will be good. It’s about reform,” she said.

I am a proud Obama supporter, but enough of these disparaging remarks and deluding yourself into thinking he is anymore experienced than she is. He isn’t. He has proven himself over the course of many many months, which is the most important thing. I am tired of being a part of the proclaimed open-minded and progressive party when we attack needlessly and are just as hypocrital as Republicans. The main problem in politics is you have the idiotic mean- spirited females in high positions giving the sane women of America a bad name. These women will not allow the conservative women a fair playing field. Susan Estrich is making more sense, more calm than any liberal female on television and in print and what does that say? Listen to her vs. Diane Sawyer. Sawyer has flipped out of her mind to say the things on air that she’s saying to help her guy, her pal Oprah’s guy get elected. Sally Quinn is a true mental case. Read her blogs about women. It’s makes any common sense woman furious. Fire these ultra mean spirited women who are in high positions of influence and the nation will see better results not this vile in the news today.

Hokie Freak: “Sarah Palin IS writing her own speech.”
No she’s not. I don’t remember the name, but I’ve seen the speech writer referenced in recent news stories – probably from earlier today.
By the way, y’all have to check out the website for the Alaskan Independence Party. Guess the party’s slogan:
Alaska First
No kidding – you can’t make this stuff up, lol. And furthermore, there is a link on the homepage about “Governor Palin’s” address to this year’s convention.
I’m back to thinking this is lethal.
The link itself doesn’t go anywhere. You just get a note saying a convention report is coming. Kind of makes me wonder whether they previously had a tape or transcript of her address to them.
And, yes, the party seems to exist for one purpose only – to have a referendum on independence from the United States. But don’t take my word for it – go look for yourselves.

Unsurprised
“No Surprises From Palin, McCain Team Says”-Washington Post
Senior McCain officials described themselves as “unsurprised” today as huge storms of locusts flew from Wasilla, Alaska and descended upon McCain campaign headquarters. “Locusts were vetted. Locusts were vetted in the vet” said one campaign official, who spoke without attribution out of concern that he would be devoured by a verminous flying cloud. The campaign also said that they were nonplussed by reports that the rivers were running black with ashes, that family pets were begin to speak in human voices, declaiming “Release Sarah!”, and that a huge spreading stain was beginning to blot out the Northern sun. “Vetted” said the campaign.
“There are exciting new studies that show that locusts can be used as a source of biodegradable fuel” said Newt Gingrich, as he hunkered down to avoid the black marble obelisks falling from the sky around him. “Palin, if she can be said to have played a role in bringing about these new biofuel resources, should be praised for her innovative role in the solution to our future energy demands”.
“These events firmly demonstrate Palin’s deep connection to traditional modes of traditional expression, in traditional forms, traditionally.” said William Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard. “Experience, in the face of these more traditional events, is overrated…” continued Kristol, before ending the interview to wrap himself head-to-toe in mosquito netting and swallowing a bitter tasting anti-malarial drug, the taste of which, as his lips contorted, he noted to be “surprisingly refreshing.”
Palin’s schedule in the upcoming days of the Republican National Convention has been cut short due to, as one McCain communications aide reported, a desire not to “let the magic out of the bottle too quickly.” “Sarah is a precious resource, who each moment brings a new vitality and energy to every worker on the campaign” said the aide, while fighting to remove the nest of serpents which had suddenly materialized on the floor beneath him, and were now slowly ascending his legs. “Do these bite, or just slink?” asked the aide, who spoke on conditions of anonymity so as not to provoke or otherwise alienate the reptiles.
Meanwhile, as the heavens darkened, the seas began to boil, and a voice tore through the clouds shouting, in deep, stentorian tones to one and all: “It was a Mistake!”, campaign offices described themselves as “unperturbed”. “Serpents materializing, house pets suddenly called to vocal advocacy, Celestial callings to revise and repent…Vetted” said the spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity as he was turning into a pillar of salt. “Everything that was vetted was vetted in the vet.”

Hey, bonehead, it is not a side issue. If Zero-bama, God of Nothingness, and company dis experience and do not consider experience to be important as a President or vice President, don’t ridicule those who consider experience is an important criterion.
Then, consider “change”. A woman Vice President who has fought and succeeded against establishments and corruption of both parties, who made the big oils agree on his terms to build pipelines for fuel our economy (rather than voting for giving them big tax credits), and who actually accomplished something sounds to be a real change. Palin said she doenst care about forgein Policy and she is a republican. That shows she has a lack of judgement when it comes to nation security. Barack Obama has picked a VP that will insure our safety. McCain is good when it comes to forgien policy but by picking someone that is his running mate that doesnt care is just dangerous. Ive never heard of anyone that is running for President not to care about the safety of our country. To be president you have to deal with a lot of different types of people in this country. J McCain and Gov. Palin will only continue the grid lock in washington with them being so far right winged espically Palin. Obama has a record or working with both dems and reps. He picked someone that will help him secure the nation while Sen. McCain picked someone that will turn their back and allow the terrorst to attack us again.

First, how much criticism is she taking from the left? I thought you guys were complaining about the media, not the left. Oh wait, I gotcha, the media is the left.
Second, if you want to see how silly your comment is, try replacing Palin/McCain with Obama and left with right. If Obama is as bad as you guys say, why criticize him at all?

For people to yammer on that Obama doesn’t have foreign policy experience or judgment are DEAD WRONG!!
He was part of a bipartisan bill in with Senator Richard Lugar on nuclear proliferation, he is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, he’s been an advocate against the war since 2002, and he has met and talked with foreign leaders across the world about mending the broken ties caused by the Bush Administration.
He said that the US should be tough on Pakistan for harboring Al Qaeda terrorists..Bush bombed the parts of the border of Pakistan.
He said that more troops should be sent to Afghanistan, because the real war on terror is there…Bush sent more troops to Afghanistan
For 18 months he said that the US should begin to withdraw troops from Iraq…The prime minister is advocating a troop withdrawl by 2011…Now the White House is in support of a timetable as well.
He said that the US needs to improve it’s diplomacy with Iran…Sec Rice went to Iran to start negotiations..
Enough with the foreign policy crap!!

All candidates carry baggage. Both Mr. Obama and Ms. Palin are smart, articulate, and passionate about their respective policy positions. It makes for an interesting election because of their meaningful differences. Having a choice is good for America. Supporters of Mr. Obama you talk a good game about taking the “high road” but when the chips are down you resort to the same tactics of personal attacks which you claim to dislike about the Republicans. America vote based on policy and not rhetoric. It becomes harder when you remove your emotions and objectively study the candidates position on a multitude of issues because they each have positions on different issues which I favor over the other. I am looking forward to the debates and other information in the next few weeks to see how the candidates will implement their policies.

The world according to John McCain and Sarah Palin is one in which America is triumphant at home and abroad thanks to the Bush legacy, rolling to victory internationally and mastering its domestic economic problems. If daily news, like reports of the 10 French soldiers killed by a resurgent Taliban in Afghanistan and the U.S. government’s imminent nationalization of much of the American mortgage-lending industry, would seem to deny such a rosy scenario, then that only shows skeptics lack the courage that sustained McCain as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.
There you have it encapsulated, the McCain campaign for president, an irrational mélange of patriotic swagger and blindness to reality that is proving disturbingly successful with uninformed voters. How else to explain the many millions of Americans who tell pollsters they prefer a continuation of Republican rule when so many of them are losing their homes to foreclosure and the nation is devastated by out-of-control military spending?
The economy is in a downward spiral, the national debt is at an all-time high, the dollar is an international disgrace and inflation in July had the steepest rise in 27 years, driven by oil prices fivefold higher than when George W. Bush invaded the nation with the world’s second-largest petroleum reserves.

JAL,
Obviously, the “Republican” party is more corrupted and has failed for some times, but you when you select a president, you need to look at the individual. Zero-bama is simply not to be trusted, who has demonstrated his willingness to go with the wind. Just look at his pandering and change, yup, “CHANGE” of positions in promising voting against, filabustering and then to finally in voting for giving Bush the power to spy on you, to take your constitutional rights away.

What is sad about this year’s election process is the lack of honesty, civility and integrity among the media, pendants, and general population. This election’s politics has been disgraceful, repulsive, deplorable, embarrassing and other adjectives that I could express.
When will our society wake-up and realize that we are all people with feelings and families that have feelings. Sometimes I feel we forget we all have a responsibility to look out for each other. I sense a bitterness and vindictiveness among the sourced comments.
Can’t agree to disagree with some civility. We don’t have to tear each other down during our discussions about opinions. I have many friends who don’t agree with my political parading. That is okay. At the end of the day we can still be friends.
I am afraid after this year’s election we may have some serious wounds to heal and there may not be enough balm to heal them.

Palin is a shrill cheerleader joke!
A state of 600,000 population with 24,000 employees would not seem like a very efficiently run one.
For that matter, if you really want to talk “executive” experience, McCain has none either. All his life he’s lived off the family, the State or the ladies!

All I could say is let her speak! Let her state her objectives and goals…I mean let’s face it, the coverage of her so far has been pretty one-sided so it is time to let her speak and defend her record. Hopefully the mainstream media will cover her fairly and properly. I wont’ hold my breath.
She has hands on experience running a government..I don’t understand how this is not experience. She has more experience leading people than Obama does. Who cares if he is a Senator, it doesn’t mean he can lead either. She also has experience leading a state that has a focus on energy and those dealings and for America – this is a large issue for the future. I think this is important to note and will make up a VERY large part of foreign dealings in the future.

But, she’s soon comin’ home

It’s all sun and no snow
Her life’s all shinin’
With lovers’ new glow
Oh Sarah, Oh Sarah
It’s scary down there
There’s tabloids and Oprah
They’ll mention your hair
Pollsters and pundits
Are goin’ to scream
Though they can’t catch a salmon
And ain’t “Mushed!” a team
Oh Sarah, Oh Sarah
It’s like a quiz show.
They’ll laugh and they’ll point
Every time you don’t know.
They’ll laugh at your voice
And they’ll laugh at your clothes
They’ll laugh at the glasses
At the end of your nose
Oh Sarah, Oh Sarah
You shudda said, “No”
When John started huggin’
And kissin’ you so
John only needs you
For one body part
And I’m tellin you, Sarah
It isn’t your heart
Oh Sarah, Come home
We’re all missin’ you so
Don’t wait till November
You’ll miss half the snow

The major issue for my family will be federal taxes. I don’t expect McCain to impact me negatively, which will allow me to save and invest more for my childrens’ college educations and my own retirement. Obama is basically targeting people like me to fund his vision of a socialist utopia, so if he is elected I’ll simply shelter more income and restructure my portfolio to ensure his administration is denied as much tax revenue as possible.

Experience??And the now age old question, what if Palin has to become president, who will do foreign policy….by god, maybe she will pick someone like Biden to be her VP. The medias arguements and focus are right out of the Obama play book, for they want so bad for him to become pres, not for what he really brings to the table, but for the show. Fair and balanced, riight..Afraid you don’t have the inside track on this woman, and the fact she is a woman really frightens the left, just ask Hillary.

On Tuesday independent political analyst Charlie Cook said: “She can’t take on a whole lot more water.”
And somebody’s talking on the inside: “A GOP source with close ties to the campaign said that McCain aides ‘vetted her through Google and clipping services, ” Barabak writes. ”
If instead of looking like a hockey mom, she looks like a person from a weird family, this could sink her,’ said one GOP strategist who requested anonymity to speak candidly.”
Looks like she was vetted really good there McDummy! But we used “the Google says the McCain Campaign!”

S.O.S.: “How come Dems cares about “experience” now?”
That’s an oversimplification of the situation.
Palin is a governor, and as both Obama and Biden have said, her qualification for higher office is up to the voters, who will judge her views, temperment, and performance in office.
But Obama supporters have noted the hypocrisy in McCain’s words, attacking Obama as “not ready,” acknowledging because of his age and health issues that he needs a running mate who is ready, and then picking Palin.
And the connection between Palin and this fringe “Alaska First” separatist party is too amazing – proof that truth is stranger than fiction.

They are doing the babies like they always do. Can’t you see that. They put down the teen for having a baby. So, she’s having a baby. Kids explore sex. Parents cannot watch over their kids 24/7. You give them info and guidance. That’s all you can do as parents. We love and respect the baby not disregard the baby, a life and make a decision that life or the young teen’s life is of value. When you do not believe in God, you cannot have the real understanding of life. The people behind the smears are truly hateful. I didn’t even care to vote this year but now, I am voting even if I have to walk to the polls.

Palin and her family have been smeared relentlessly by the hard left and nearly the entire mainstream media this past week. McCain really caught them off guard and they are livid. Obama could have chosen a woman VP, but decided instead to go with a six-term Senator to represent his message of “change.” Since the announcement of Palin, the left sensed the damage this would cause and has become completely unhinged. Obama operatives are actively planting smears and talking points on multiple left wing blogs. Anything that terrifies the left is something we need much more of. Palin connects with common, decent people. She’s an extremely smart and popular governor who is fiercely independent and fights corruption wherever she sees it. The real unknown is not Palin, who already has an impressive record of accomplishments. The unknown is Obama. What do we really know about him beyond his rhetoric at the Temple of Zeus? Nothing. He’s a man with a murky past who the media purposely protects and promotes. He is an unprincipled elitist whose world views have been shaped by communists, socialists, terrorists, indicted fundraisers, anti-American preachers, and Chicago thugs. But somehow those associations aren’t newsworthy. Palin’s daughter! Now that’s important to our country’s future! The press has spent much more effort in the past five days digging up dirt on Palin than they ever spent unraveling Obama’s past and connections to radical organizations (like ACORN, the masters of voter fraud) in the past 19 months! You can’t make this stuff up. I’ll make a prediction. If by some fit of insanity Americans do elect Obama, you will quickly see a REAL case of buyer’s remorse unprecedented in our history. I’ve done a lot of research on Obama and his policies (since the media refuses to) and he is not who people think he is. He will, in lockstep with our incompetent Congress, run our wonderful country straight into the ground in short order. And his supporters will say in a state of shock, “How did we not know?” Mark my words.

McCAIN’S BIG REFORMER?? I don’t think so!
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin employed a lobbying firm to secure almost $27 million in federal earmarks for a town of 6,700 residents while she was its mayor,” The Washington Post’s Paul Kane reports. “There was $500,000 for a youth shelter, $1.9 million for a transportation hub, $900,000 for sewer repairs, and $15 million for a rail project — all intended to benefit Palin’s town, Wasilla, located about 45 miles north of Anchorage.”
“In fiscal year 2002, Wasilla took in $6.1 million in earmarks — about $1,000 in federal money for every resident. By contrast, Boise, Idaho — which has more than 190,000 residents — received $6.9 million in earmarks in fiscal 2008,” Kane adds. “All told, Wasilla benefited from $26.9 million in earmarks in Palin’s final four years in office…
In February, Palin’s [governor's] office sent Sen. Stevens a 70-page memo outlining almost $200 million worth of new funding requests for Alaska.”

But I’ll tell you this – I’ll take Palin over McCain for president. At least she won Miss Congeniality. We all know, whether McCain supporters want to admit it or not, that he doens’t have the temperment to be president.
Bottom line is the Republicans eight years ago who warned us about McCain’s temperment and potential instability seem to have been right.

The topic no one is talking about in this race is intelligence – Democrats have it and the Republicans don’t. Period.
I know Rush Limbaugh and his ilk have made it unfashionable and “elitist” to be intelligent, but when I was growing up I, and many others, believed that the president and vice president should be the best and the brightest. That sure doesn’t seem to be the case these days. Look at what eight years of having a moron in the White House have given this country.
The facts are this: In this complex and diverse world, John McCain and Sarah Palin are simply too stupid to run this country.

The selection of Palin shows that the extreme religious right owns McCain, just as they owned W. Her church’s statement of beliefs includes a believe that non-Christians will “burn in a lake of fire.” She believes that rape victims and incest victims should have to carry their preganancies to term. She slashed funding for housing for teen mothers. She believes in teaching creationism in school. Even her so-called reform bona fides are bogus. She voted for the “bridge to nowhere” before she voted against it, and lobbied for earmarks as a mayor.

You’d rather that he uses some of McCain’s labels for women? Let’s see, there’s trollop and worse that came out in the same sentence.
And while I agree with McCain and Obama that children should be off-limits, where was that perspective when McCain was saying Chelsea Clinton was ugly because Janet Reno was her father?

He gave big oil billions in subsidies and giveaways.”
So…all those big oil subsidies then…didn’t they go to Palin’s state, Alaska? Isn’t that how her state got its huge surplus? So her excellent budgeting skills came, then, from big oil subsidies? Those big oil subsidies that Republicans set up and approved?
The Republicans contradicting themselves.

Christie,
I am Canadian which must therefore mean that I know a lot about America because we live next door. And of course you know all about Canada because we are neighbors. In fact Mexico and Quebec are are also neighbors with America (although Quebec is not a sovereign nation it is a distinct culture). Just out of curiosity, can you name the Prime Minister of Canada, or the President of Mexico?
America you need to enter the 21st century. Voting McPalin is like going back to the 50sand early 60s, and while I recognize the allure of that more innocent time when America was at its loftiest, that era does not at all represent the global reality. Obama seems to grasp this reality while McBluster clearly does not. A Democratic presidency will help restore the world’s faith in America. A Republican presidency will further alienate and isolate you. The Neocons have done incalculable damage to your great country. Time to stop the bleeding.

Gov. Palin does have some experience -
1. As member of the Alaska Independence Party – with an “Alaska First! political agenda that includes the intention to secede from the United States, because (from their own faq), Alaska will more than make up for lost federal revenues through the tax revenues it makes of Big Oil!
This is Gov. Palin means when she speaks of “first principles”, her first principle is ALASKA FIRST (her second principle appears to be to abuse her political office to interfere in the investigation and decisions of independent commissions, note: Troopergate).
If fact, if we examine her career, we sse that this idea is the single thread that runs through her entire political career.
- as mayor of Wassilla Alaska, a town with a population or around 5,500 residents, for whom she as Mayor (but reformer?) secured $27 million dollars in Federal Grants. ALASKA FIRST!
- as a member of an ethics commission she took on Republican corruption – but the the party with power in Alaska IS the Republican party. Who else would she take on? She did remain true to her Alaska First principles, though – fighting corruption, of whatever political party is putting the citizens of Alaska first. ALASKA FIRST!
I could go on…”Bridge to Nowhere?” She was for it, until the Government threatened to cut federal funding, and make the State of Alaska pay for the boondoggle – when faced with having to pay the bill herself, she was against it. She STILL took the federal money, though. ALASKA FIRST.
Here’s the clincher: when asked if she would consider becoming VP, she admitted she didn’t really know what the Vice President did all day, but she’d be willing to consider it…IT DEPENDED ON WHAT WAS IN IT FOR ALASKA!!!
Gov. Palin – an Alaskan Native. And screw the rest of the 49 United States of America.
I say PUT AMERICA FIRST!
Go U.S.A! Send Gov. Pain back to Juno.

Kind of like Palin’s “association” with a member of a group that wants Alaska to secede from the Union. And by “association with” I mean “marriage to.”

Palin is to McCain and Spiro T. Agnew was to Richard Nixon. It is an uncanny parallel. Nixon chose Spiro T. because he would deliver the South. Afterward, Spiro’s function as a VP was to deliver speeches attacking any challenges to Nixon’s administration. He did this by delivering meaningless speeches with obscure terms and phrases such as, “naddoring nabobs of negativism”, which always grabbed media attention. He was left out of both foreign and domestic policy decisions by the White House because, DESPITE HAVING BEEN THE GOVERNOR OF MARYLAND FOR TWO YEARS AND THE BALTIMORE COUNTY EXECUTIVE FOR FOUR YEARS (with a 1967 population of over 500,000 compared to Wasilla’s population of less than 10,000), the White House did not think he had anything to contribute.
My favorite bumper sticker of all time is still, “eschew obfuscation” Spiro T. Agnew – the irony being that creating confusion about real issues in his speeches was his primary function.
Spiro T. ended up resigning the Vice Presidency when he was convicted of tax evasion – apparently something he thought he was entitled to do. Lucky for us because, when Nixon was forced to resign, he would have made a very scary President.

MCCAIN’S BIG PALIN ROLL OUT!!
From behind a red velvet curtain emerged a feminine beauty, also in tails and a top hat, but with high heels and fish nets to boot. She twirled twice and then took McCain’s hands at he continued.
“She’s truly amazing, folks!” If you think I’m a magician, wait til you get a load of her! She can do it all, ladies and gentlemen, she can bend steel with her mind! She can make doves appear out of thin air! She manages to govern the entire state of Alaska and be a fantastic mom, all while never missing a single episode of Oprah!”
Some in the crowd chuckled; others sent out impressive ‘oooh,’s while others muttered, “What in the damn HELL?”
“And now, ladies and gents, I will attempt a truly impressive feat. Before your very eyes, I shall transform the Great Palini from simple governor and hockey mom to… Sarah Palin, Vice President of the United States!”
Here, a puff of smoke errupted at Palin’s feet, and when it cleared, she was clad in a blue skirted business suit and (for some reason) holding a tray of cookies one hand, and a baby in the other. The crowd gasped!
And again some in the crowd chuckled; others sent out “impressive cheer” while others muttered, “What in the damn HELL is this a joke?”

Jim in OH, you got brass ones talking voter fraud in Diebold’s home state. in fact, didn’t you say you were in IT …? I hold it as a rule of thumb that when Republicans accuse Democrats of something, it’s because they’re doing it themselves.
But really, you speak as if you know Ms. Palin personally. You can vouch for her character, her beliefs. Do you know her? Or have you only really known about her for a week and a half, like most of us? My bet is that all you know about her is what you have heard from the party line and what you choose to believe because of your simplistic economic assessments of a likely Obama presidency. To suggest that we know Palin better than we do Obama is ludicrous.
To the experience issue, yes, running a campaign in the full heat of a battle with entrenched party forces does constitute real executive experience. As a Clinton supporter, I developed a grudging then open respect for the way the Obama campaign outmaneuvered, out-planned and out managed the campaign of my client. Managing a government of 600,000 plus people isn’t bad, it’s about like running a city the size of Seattle.

Palin never “led” the guard to do anything. And if a foreign country ever did attack us, the National Guard would be swiftly called up by the President. As governor, Plain would have no control or say-so over the guard’s usage at that point; her role is limited to mainly disaster relief.
When it comes to national defense, the key word is “national.”

Palin did all these things…because she is just biding her time.
Maybe she is still hoping the VP spot will give her the authority to allow Alaska to secede.
Everything she has ever done, as reformer, as executive, as mayor as ethics commissioner has been guided by the principle PUT ALASKA FIRST!!
That’s what her political career tells us.
I say put America First, send Gov. Palin back to Juno to her secessionist compatriots.
What her son does is his business. Clearly he IS an American Patriot, but he is in Iraq fighting to protect our freedoms, while Gov. Palin is running for VP “to see what’s in it for Alaska”
LOL
Go U.S.A. America First! Keep Alaska in the Union.

In all of this, I hear almost nothing about what would make McCain a decent president. The heat is all on Obama (or Palin). What about McCain? Personally, he scares me. Not what we need. And did somebody say that Palin has foreign policy experience? No, she does not. Obama has drafted legislation and voted on foreign policy issues. According to the non-partisan website ontheissues.org, Palin has never stated any positions on foreign policy, nor has she ever participated in any actions related to foreign policy aside from her domestic duties related to Homeland Security as a governor. Here are their stances on the issues:
Palin-http://www.ontheissues.org/Sarah_Palin.htm
McCain-http://www.ontheissues.org/John_McCain.htm

Palin doesn’t hang out in the Senate sending out aids to get her pizza,,,,,while Obama and Biden vote down every energy bill put in front of them.
Palin has gotten a 40 billion pipeline project going, while Biden and Obama suck up to the environmental lobby, and kill all energy legislation.
Biden sits around with Obama and votes all day. Then he goes on Television every weekend to here himself speak while he primps and preens himself in front of the camera’s.
What do these guys do anyways? Push a button on a voting screen and blather about how they stopped the gasoline getting to the pump, for their environmental lobbyist friends.
The only experience they have is talking all day long. Other than that….they have been in the way of energy development in the United States.

I’m just concerned that she might deploy the military to handle the conflict on the Iraq-Pakistan border without thinking it through first. But if she did, it would only be to help out the German Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin. After all, according to McCain, the country of Iran doesn’t seem to be there anymore, and apparently Putin took over Germany when no one was looking. But he is the “foreign policy expert,” so I could be wrong.

The McCain ad contrasting Palin with Obama is standard politics with an interesting twist – the ad makes Obama’s skin color much darker than it appears in all media coverage, where its hue is what would be expected for someone with his racial background.
The explicit message is “Vote for Palin and McCain because of their qualifications.”
The subliminal message is, “He’s black. You don’t want one of them in the White House, do you?”

Obama is sticking his sleazy cronies on Governor Palin. He can’t point to a single accomplishment. Obama voted present over 100 times as a State Senator skipping any hard votes. In the U.S. Senate he never even held a hearing as a subcommittee chairman.
As Governor of Alaska Palin had led and negotiated out the Natural Gas Pipeline Bill as well as an Ethics Reform bill.
Big difference between Obama and the Governor. Governor Palin has led, taken on corruption and brought about change. Obama just talks and mostly about himself.
As a working Mom, I relate to Governor Palin. Obama is running a good old boy network to take a working woman down. He did it to Hillary. Governor Palin’s taken them on before in Alaska and she will again.

57 States?
Obama misspoke — ONCE.
You really are stretching if you think that means anything. As McCain’s supporters themselves point out, we should not be electing our next President just because he is an eloquent speaker. Obama misspoke, give it a rest.
Did McCain misspeak when he had to be corrected by Joe Lieberman, of all people, for claiming that Al Qaeda, a Sunni radical Islamist movement, was being trained by Iran (a Shi’te theocracy?)
Did McCain misspeak when he made the same mistake multiple times, repeatedly confusing Shi’ia and Sunni and the roles they are playing to fan the conflict in Iraq?
Did McCain misspeak when he said he couldn’t remember how many houses he owns?
Did McCain misspeak when he joked “Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because Janet Reno is her father!” Ha Ha – what a noble hero, keeping families out of the political process, ineed – that is if it serves YOUR POLITICAL INTERESTS.
Did McCain misspeak when he plagiarized a story Alexander Solzhenitsyn first tells in “One Day of the Life of Ivan Denisovich”, the story of a camp guard who makes a cross in the sand to show christian Solidarity.
Did McCain misspeak when he asked Rick Warren at the recent Saddleback debates “Can we get back to the question about the Supreme Court nominees?” A question Warren had asked Obama, but had not yet asked McCain. In other words, there was no question “to get back to”, McCain could not even know there would BE a question about Supreme Court nominees…unless he had cheated and watched Warren’s questioning of Obama on Television from the limousine he was seated in. In other words, unless he had CHEATED. What happened to your honor, John McCain?
Did McCain misspeak when he said he would stay in Iraq for 100 years?
I could go on, and on, and on…

The real point is not her lack of experience — it’s her incompetence. She became a mayor of a town with no debt, and by the time she left, it was nearly bankrupt. She tried to fire the local librarian because she refused to ban books. She demanded a loyalty test from everyone serving below her. And on, and on, and on, and on. Palin is a great pick to provide us some much needed amusement for this campaign. Having a “quick to anger” old coot near the button used to worry me. Now I know he’s completely out to lunch and probably just does what those around him tell him to do. “Eat your soup.” “Don’t forget to put on your flag lapel pin.” “Forget about Lieberman.” So I think we’ll be OK on that front. But let’s get off the whole business about Palin’s absurd and/or hypocritical record of deficits, seeking earmarks, her role in trying to fire the ex-brother-in-law, and a pregnant daughter product of Palin’s “just say no” attitude to sex ed. There’s just no point…it’s obviously bad news. Even the GOP can’t defend that record and have resorted to the “bad, bad media” response. Seriously, the only real issue of substance here has barely been touched on: this is our first, bonafide, VPILF. A perfect candidate in a time where Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan generate more attention than the down-the-rathole trillion we’ve dumped into Iraq….er…the companies the GOP administration hired to get rich on this landmark mistake in American history. Admiral Akhbar:
Obama’s supporters should be pointing out what McCain’s choice says about his claim to be his own man, and about his judgement.
When his own party denied him his first pick, Joe Lieberman, and then his second pick, Tom Ridge, McCain flipped-a-coin and recklessly selected a Governor from a provincial state he’s only met once and new next to nothing about – except that she was popular in Alaska.
He caved to pressure withing his party, and then shot blindly in the dark.
This is not the kind of judgment the U.S. needs in its Commander-in-Chief, and it puts the lie to the idea that “McCain is his own man”….
LOL
He CAVED! He wanted either Lieberman or Ridge, he had no plan C, so he picked blindly.

Republican ads tout Palin as having challenged big oil. Everyone here is touting her being responsible for creating a $40 billion pipeline PROJECT. Now, in all honesty, have you seen any REAL ESTIMATES OF OIL OUTPUT by a non-biased organization of the daily output of these pipes. Take into account that the city of Chicago receives one million barrels a day from the Gulf of Mexico and that the five largest big oil companies have had five successive quarters of reductions in their daily output of oil and had a drop of 614,000 barrels per day in the last quarter alone. The republicans have been selling this idea that more oil is the only solution we need for our oil problems and they are getting away with it because they are preaching to people who are gullible and don’t want to get the whole picture.
As I said, “espouse obfuscation, eschew elucidation”, onward and upward with the politics of Spiro T. Agnew. God save us all.

Here is what always amazes me about Dems…the open-mindedness? The intellectual free thinkers? How about more like the name-callers, and childish behavioralists? That, after all these comments, seems more fitting. Politics is a whore, people. Stop comparing apples and oranges. There can be no discussion as to Palin’s experience, and contrasting that with Obama’s. He is the PRIME on his ticket – HELLLOOO! He will be running the country with immediacy if you elect him. And, being a lawyer, I have to ask – how the heck does his experience as a con law professor and his healm at the Harvard Law Review qualify him as commander-in-chief? What ever happened to good old-fashioned qualifications like strong character, diplomacy, and just plain patriotism? Sex does not matter, color does not matter. Don’t lie, or cheat on your spouse, because if you can do those things, you will surely sell out your country. And…Sarah Palin would make the ultimate sacrifice of being proud to have her son die for his country – good, bad or indifferent. Instead, several of our citizens whine about the word “God” and its usage in relation to our Flag, and our currency, and point the finger at Ms Palin for being a “glorified housewife”. I wonder how many of you can fathom even raising five children today? Good luck – I know I could not do it and also juggle a state budget. Grow up Dems…stop name-calling, and support your candidate in a positive manor if you must. Don’t get all defensive about Palin – and enough with bashing Republicans about being stupid. There are plenty of us who made it through Harvard and Yale too – or who just plain made it through the school of hard knocks with lots of good ol’ common sense. Try playing fair for a change – and show some maturity, please.

It’s so sad and scary that uninformed people are VOTING for our country’s future. There is certainly a brainwashing in our schools and media. Some of Obama’s supporters are good people who have put their faith in a weak person. Some believe all of the lies that they see and read. Some care only about their liberal views and pushing them on all of us. They want to change more traditions. They say respect them, but they don’t respect those they disagree with.

We do not underestimate the Republican ability to confuse and bamboozle and to get the American Public to vote against its real interests.
You’d think the corruption and incompetence, the lack of accountability, or willingness to take responsibility for multiple failures would doom the Republican party this year. But they are Masters of Lies and Deception. So, yeah, we do get worried.
Bush showed us that really bad things DO happen when you elect someone incompetent to run the government. And HE DID HAVE LOTS OF EXECUTIVE ExPERIENCE.

Palin slashed funding for unwed mothers when Governor of Alaska.
I’m sorry, but the fact that her unwed teen-age daughter is pregnant is no longer a private matter.
When her decisions as Governor so directly impinge on this latest revelation, the American Public at least deserves to know what she now thinks of that earlier decision.
Has Gov. Palin changed her mind about slashing funds. Does she still think it was the right decision? What is the policy thinking that motivated her slashing of funds?

In her speech to the Wasilla Assembly of God in June, Ms. Palin said it was “God’s will” that the federal government contribute to a $30 billion gas pipeline she wants built in Alaska. I’ve always been amazed at how often God’s will falls in line with the person espousing it.
There is something larger I have never understood here. When God ordered Abraham to kill his son and when God put Job through affliction, disease, loss and suffering, the message from God was the same. It was, “Who do you think you are to be questioning God’s will”?
Well, if God gave that message to us through the bible, how is it that people have the audacity to think they know God’s plan is ahead of time. It seems clear the message was that, if anything, God has a plan and it is your job to accept it, not to claim that you know what it is. That would be hubris, i.e., putting yourself on the level of God.

An American Patriot,
In your rant you failed to mention how you and the Democrats threw Hillary under the bus and then ran her over a few times.
It was real nice the Democrats gave her a slot at the convention but if Obama becomes President she has no chance of ever becoming President or VP. Her only chance is that McCain/Palin wins and then she’ll be the one that could break the glass ceiling in 2012.
Obama screwed himself by not picking her for VP when she had more support than even Biden.

OK, so the Dems called the Palin ‘experience ad’ ridiculous. Can somebody point me to the original Political Radar piece about the existence of this ad?
How does it happen that the first time we hear of this, it’s the piece about what the Dems had to say about it?

Nahhh…what you Repubicans don’t get, but Hillary supporters understood months ago is that Obama would have loved to appoint Hillary as VP, who doesn’t like 18 million votes?
Hillary wasn’t the problem, the problem was what to do with former President Bill Clinton. A former President, now just house-husband of the VP. It didn’t compute.
Hillary understands it.
Obama understands it.
The vast majority of the American public gets it after watching the speeches the Clinton’s gave at the DNC.
Its just Republicans and John McCain who “just don’t get it” – like so many other things you don’t get.

I have been amazed, especially over the last few weeks, over how much concern the republicans are expressing for Hillary Clinton. They must be much more caring than I give them credit for.

An American Patriot, Palin slashed funds for wasteful nanny-state programs that don’t require taxpayer dollars in the first place? Awesome! That’s exactly the kind of reformer we need. The opposite of the entrenched fools we have in Washington (approval rating: 9%). Palin doesn’t needlessly waste precious tax revenue for unnecessary, ever-growing programs in the name of big government compassion. How refreshing.

McCain/Palin just needs 4% of Hillary woman and Obama’s toast.

T. Hill–there has never been proof of anything illegal done by Obama as it relates to those three names. But if it’s a guilt by association theme you are running, then you better be able to back up abuse of power, cuts in funding for un-wed mothers, gross censorship at a tiny town library, the largets pork barrel % problems in history from a crooked tiny town, blatant lies to get elected as Govenor….and that’s just the VP candidate. And she’s the one who is suppossed to be “human” and “in touch”? The old dude standing next to her by his own admission “doesn’t know too much about economics…” and continues to support this awful current President. It’s safe to say that none of us are super proud when our aquaintances screw up or make stupid statements. The difference here is that Obama has only been associated with a couple of these tools. Govenor Palin has had a direct hand in the corruption personally. Finally they can’t take the high road! You have stepped up and supported a woman of questionable character….which is fine.

“Palin slashed funds for wasteful nanny-state programs that don’t require taxpayer dollars in the first place? Awesome!”
========================================
You make my point for me.
I never said the decision to slash funds was right or wrong, I did say “this private matter of her unwed teen-age daughter’s pregnancy” is no longer a private matter when it goes to the heart of policy decisions she made as a Governor.
American voters have a right to know if she still holds to those positions, or if she has changed her mind. The media has the right to ask questions about private matters if these private matters are integral to policy decisions she made.
Lots of Love, and God Bless. Gotta go!

Palin slashed spending for unwed mothers? Good for her. Does that mean hypocrisy? No…analyze it further. She and her daughter and the father of her grandchild are taking responsibility for an early pregnancy. She is not thrusting that burden on society. She is not playing the blame-game. She is espousing family values – something which this country of late is poorly lacking. Our children are part of the “sense of entitlement” generation. They feel entitled to everything – happiness, prosperity and support when they screw up. Get over it! This is what I am talking about…there is no longer a sense of personal responsibility in this country. Other countries laugh at us, and with good reason. We support everyone for every cause. She is not a hypocrite…she is a realist. Sometimes responsibility is thrust upon us at earlier ages than we expected – oh well! Why can’t we teach our kids to swallow it and step up to the plate, rather than teaching them that they can rely on society when the make mistakes, of which they KNOW THE CONSEQUENCES???

christine, you articulated it well. If Washington were run by fiscal conservatives like Palin, we would have a lean, mean government focused on providing the absolute essentials as envisioned by our founding fathers, allowing us to keep a lot more of our money so that we can allocate it to private organizations that are in line with our belief systems and our community’s needs. What we have instead is a bloated, wasteful, redistributionist government that is moving us rapidly into a nanny state existence, which will bankrupt all of us. Obama along with fools like Pelosi and Reid will ensure we get there rapidly. Thanks, but keep the “change.”

Who care about the republicans anymore but a 28% of the US who think George Washington was a bible thumping Christian and fought for independence to start a religious state to further the word of God. annie – its too bad you were not privileged enough to apparently have a mother like myself or Sarah Palin. Dems, who have long aligned themselves with liberal feminists – have downplayed stay-at-home moms who insist on instilling family values. Now, they are pointing the finger at Palin, qualifying her as “selfish” and a bad mother because she has a high-powered career. Can you guys stay on one side of the fence, please?? Raising children with strong values, and forcing responsibility on your children is not a bad thing…but again, you are indicative of the whiny-child attitude of most liberals. If it is not handed to you on a silver platter, you get mad and sulk. This country was built on people like my grandfather, who came here from Italy with 17 cents and made his way from Baltimore to Buffalo, on the kindness of an Irish cop, who took time to communicate with him. He did not raise his 7 children on public assistance, and teach them to milk the system. He raised them with values of hard work, and taught them that it is a PRIVILEGE to be an American. Unfortunately, most people here have no idea what that means…so darn sad.
Posted by: christine | September 3, 2008, 4:19 pm 4:19 pm
annie, do you believe that all forms of social aid should be paid for by taxpayers? When does it stop? Should we just give government 100% of our income to redistribute for every social ill? Do these mothers not have parents, siblings, extended family, friends, churches, charities, or other local privately funded groups to assist them? Many of us contribute to such groups. Must government solutions always be the answer? It’s this kind of thinking that has enslaved many Americans to government programs today. There are other ways to meet the needs of these mothers that does not require the waste that government bureaucracy introduces.

John McCain has fallen off his rocker. He didn’t lose his bearings, he drenched them in gasoline and lit a match. For a 72 year old man with cancer to pick a neophyte like Palin to be his VP is a sign he has lost his mental clarity. Behind closed doors the Bush family has to be going nuts. There are 6 or 7 others who are far more qualified. There is NO WAY Palin could have been fully vetted, … but if she was then this is even more evidence of McCain’s incompetence. Palin might be the scariest person to come out of a GOP convention since Spiro Agnew.

Dawn, I think the more relevant question is why isn’t Obama at the bottom of the Dem ticket? The current ticket is upside-down. I don’t even think it would be possible for Obama to pick a VP that has less experience than he does. It’s very bizarre, given that he would be the lead decision-maker on Day 1. The McCain/Palin ticket makes a lot more sense. Palin will learn from a master and come up to speed quickly. In Obama’s case, he would defer critical decisions to his VP. That’s not the way that office works.

Any more anxiety in the Obama campaign, and among his supporters here on these very comments and I believe there’ll be a run on the national supply of sedatives. Calm down liberals! Don’t lash out at Governor Palin or you’ll loose your little 4 point bounce. Move slowly, stay calm and don’t get your heart rate up. When John McCain transitions into the White House, all will be well. The Global War on Terror will be a lasting victory, there will be international diligence at home and abroad, energy production will be up and costs down, there will be real goods and services backing a real free market economy, and you’ll only be forced to enjoy a tax break that you wouldn’t get in an Obama regime. So, don’t forget to vote.

Hello my freinds.
I haven’t been makiing many public statements lately, because I’ve been busy,…busy rigoring uhhh…figuring out how to use this internets doo-hickey thingamajig.
But I think I have it figured out now.
So, here goes…
My friends, many of your are askiing why…WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD and country did I choose Bristol Palin to be may running mate, sorry – I meant to say Sarah! Gov. Sarah Palin.
(I only just met the family, forgive me if I still get the names mixed up).
Well…I picked her – Gov. Bristol Palin (F**@!) I mean SARAH Palin, he-he, because, I really, really, really want to be President!
The evanjellycal wingnuts in my party wouldn’t let me choose my old pal Joe Lieberman, – so I caved. What was I supposed to do, appoint Mitt Romney. Did you hear what that guy has said about me? I hate the guy. Pawlenty? The guy has no experience…oh right…he has no experience, and he isn’t an evangelical wingnut, he’s from Minnesota, for pete’s sake.
Anyways, why Sarah?
1. She wasn’t any of these other guys
2. She’s from Alaska. Not many people in Alaska, but what Alaska lacks in people in way makes up in black gold, Texas tea, oil that is. And Gov. Palin does have experience, you know what kind… “OIL EXPERIENCE”.
We Republicans do love our oil.
Get it? Oil,Oil, Oil, Oil. In case you didn’t notice the last eight years have been run by oil-men from Texas, and look how well they’ve served us! Time for a rootin, tootin Alaska oil lady to take over Washinton.
Ya’ll know my motto, SERVICE
Service Stations, that is.
Y’all come back now, y’hear?.

Funny because you seem to be trying to imitate a southern or Texan accent, none of which you previously have been known to have. Hmmm…

Also funny how none of your assertions are true. She has governing experience, not oil experience. But we all KNOW cars are bad. I mean who drives those things anymore?
I suspect the fake “Senator” above, drives a car as well…Hmmm…

Hi Folks! Sarah, here. Sorry I haven’t had a chance to talk to you since the big announcement, but Johnny is keeping me on a pretty tight leash.
I thought I could at least share a song me and my family have takin to singing on the long bus rides around the lower 48.
The U.S. sure looks cool. At least the view from my bus window as it rushes by. :-) Whatever happens, at my least my family is finally gettin to see a little of this great country! Gotta love that! Free family vacatin, right:-)
So, here’s the song. Try to sing along. I think you’ll recognize it.
Come & listen to a story about a Gov. named Sarah
A poor “hockey mom”, who can hunt for her food
When one day she was shootin at a bear-a
And up through the ground came some bubblin crude.
Oil that is, black gold, ‘Alaska’ tea.
Well the first thing you know…She’s a billionaire
Wasilla folk said “Palin move away from there”
Said “Wash-in-ton” is the place you oughta be”
So she loaded up her family, and ran for VP.
Vice-President that is…
“inside the belt-way”
what oil lobbyists call home…
Well now its time to say good by to the Gov. and all her kin.
And they would like to thank you folks fer kindly droppin in.
You’re all invited back again to this locality
To have a heapin helpin of their hospitality
Hillybilly that is. Set a spell, Take your shoes off.
Y’all come back now, y’hear?.

You got me there, I was just trying to set up Gov. Palin. I am a pretty poor faker, but I’m trying.
Once upon a time, way back in 2000, I was actually a real Maverick, I was my own man. Independents and many Democrats actually like me and would have voted for me.
Now, with all my flip-flops during this last campaign, now I have to fake being a maverick to. Are you at least buying that?
I hope you liked her song.

More cars! BIGGER CARS! More Oil! BIGGER OIL!
Thanks Jay.
I couldn’t have described my energy policy more succinctly myself.
You’re right, I do drive a car, I drive several…though I can’t remember right now how many I own. I’ll have my staff get back to you on that one.
Y’all come back now, y’hear?.

What is ridiculous is that Obama is trying to convince the American voters that he has more management experience than Palin by stating that he manages his campaign of 2500 people with a budget of $21million a month.
However, this was a poor comparison Obama made because Palin has 77,000 employees she oversees with 1.25billion budget a month.
Nice try Obama, but you keep trying. If you rack your big ego head you might come up with something. Comparing management of a campaign and actually running a state are not even on the same playing field.

You think your experience as a mayor of a small town and two year in one the least population states quailfy you as a leader. Obama has seven years in state goverment, experience in national goverment and taught law and Havard grad and yes education to matter or anyone would be able to get in. Sarah has EXECTUTIVE experience *running a government* (something NONE of the other candidates can actually boast, even John McCain as Governor of Alaska and got there by defeating the *incumbent* Republican Governor, who was definitely part of the “old school” and who WAS very much in the pocket of the big oil companies. We in Alaska wanted change – and we got it in the person of Sarah Palin!
Sarah Palin is everything she looks to be and more. Her approval rating as Governor of Alaska has been as high as 95% and is currently leveled out consistently in the upper 80 percentile throughout the state (and in both parties) – the HIGHEST approval rating of ANY sitting Governor.

I respect President Bush. He has accepted the blame even when it was not his fault for the decisions that the Democratic Congress made by not voting in what could have helped our Country becuase they were so mad that the Country wanted family values and voted Republican and not for Demoncrates for its non-family values. Our next President and Vice President and our County electees all need our prayers now. That they can lead our Country not by party but choose GOD’s guidance to do so. Also from what I heard after the Convention last night by the Media and Democrats. Trash is only really coming out of the Media and Democrats becuase they know McCain and Palin are a strong duo and they have the support of our nation and everyone is extremely tired of the lies and negative remarks and they know it. You can truly see what our world is coming to and what it will become if Obama Biden were to win. I will be truly afraid for our country if they do. The only media person that I have found to be unbiased is Mr. Glenn Beck CNN Headlines News channel. He tells it as it is, I watched his interview with Gov Palin a fews weeks ago and got to know a little of her then. He is so unbiased I can’t tell who he is even for. He researches and knows his stuff. He is worth checking out on his website. Anyway CHOOSE Country First and PRAY

Bush & Republicans controlled White House and Congress (the executive branch & the legislative branch of gov’t) for 6 of the last 8 years.
I don’t recall George “Good Job Brownie” Bush taking responsibility for any of his mistakes.
It is the Republicans, who controlled Congress, who have run up this country’s record deficits.
It is President Bush, who took this country into an unnecessary war. Whatever its merits, the war in a Iraq has done nothing to reduce the threat of terrorism. Iraq had nothing to do with terrorism until AFTER Bush invaded.
I don’t recall Bush or the Republicans taking responsiblity for any of their mismanagment, for their ethical lapses, abuse of power, outing of CIA agent, firing of federal attorneys for partisan reasons, and then lieing about it.
The Republican party under Bush has become the party of unaccountable liars and cheats.
I’d vote for McCain if he were an independent, but he’s not, he’s the pet of this current, corrupt Republican administration and Republican party.
God Save Us ALL, and God Bless Our Troops, both Republican and Democratic soldiers alike, from another 100 years in Iraq.

Experience doesn’t matter. Abraham Lincoln successfully steered our nation through it’s bloodiest conflict (and a civil one at that) and had less experience than Obama does today. Bill Clinton had hardly any foreign policy experience when he took office, but he did a fine job as President.
What matters is judgment, the ability to make intelligent, well thought out decisions. I know who I think is superior in that regard, and that nominee will get my vote.

Greg:
Let me second you.
Judgment, not experience is the most important.
George Bush had a great deal of “executive experience”, before becoming President – as Governor of Texas and a Business executive.
He and the Republicans in congress ran up record deficits during the 6 years they had TOTAL control of government.
He completely mismanaged the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina
He completely mismanaged the occupation of Iraq, handing out contracts to his cronies who were completely unqualified to carry out their
All McCain’s “Experience” means is that he has been around for a long time.
He likes to make much of his getting “the surge” right. Sure, things in Iraq have improved after the surge, and the surge certainly had something to do with it, many other factors are probably more important.
But that misses the bigger point. We should Never have gone into Iraq in the first place, and McCain was one of Bush’s earliest, and most vociferous supporters. McCain took us into the War.
Claiming credit for the success of the surge, is like someone first shooting you in the head, but then putting a bandage over the wound. Sure, he’s stopped the hemmoraging, but why did he shoot you in the first place?

My how quickly you liberals can change the subject away from Obama’s lack of experience and insult Palin’s small town roots. Why do you think Obama is even in Ohio? Ohio is made up of these small towns and he is putting his entire campaign into Ohio. Give me a break. This is yet another instance of the two-faced Washington liberals who pander to the very people that they insult with every breath. Good grief!!

Well there were a number of lies but one of the worst was when talking about fighting washington insider politics and esp. the bridge to nowhere well McCains campaign is staffed by some 75 % lobbist esp. those at the top of his campaign. Oh and the money for the bridge to nowhere Alaska got it they just didn’t build the bridge they built all the roads going up to where it will begin and as gov. she did a speech to help get this money and said Washington thinks your nowhere well I don’t and she hired lobby firms to lobby for the money. But she’s an outsider YEAH RIGHT and Rush Limbaugh is a Liberal !!! and it was a Canadian firm she gave the contract to, to build this gas pipeline but their slogan is country first then find an american co. to do the pipeline and saying we need to use american resources the drill here drill now mindset well we used our best resource our brave men and women to fight in Iraq and the Bush admin lets China walk in and get contracts that American firms should have got to develope oil fields in IRAQ fields that will produce and low estimate of 125,000 barrels of oil a week within 3 yrs maybe sooner but BUSH/ McCain and the rest let CHINA our biggest worry for our country out there come in after OUR men and women clear the way with their blood and lives and TAKE a contract to get the oil out of IRAQ right under our noses and our men and women will probally be the ones protecting China’s people in the fields and their equipment and the oil being shipped out and their tankers in the straights with our navy !!! yeah that’s the Kind of leadership we need one last thing She also said that it is their responsibilty to leave the country better then it was when they took office !! REALLY ewll then are your better off NOW then when Bush, who McCain voted with 90% of the time are you better of NOW then when W took over and was rubber stamped by McCain and the rest of the GOP for 7 yrs ?

If being mayor and governor qualify a person to be president, then mccain is not qualify to run as prsident beause he was never a mayor or governor, nor did he ever run a corporation.

PALIN HAS MORE EXPERIENCE THAN BUSH…
Cindy gave A very good reason about Palin’s foreign experiences: Palin has twice foreign experience comparing to Bush because Alaska is next to Canada and Russia and Texas is next only to Mexico. If Bush can be a president than Palin must be a much better veep!!!

You Obamacons had better get used to it: Sarah Palin is going to be America’s Evita.
She’s a natural and smart, too.

McCain/Palin ’08. Her speech said it all – no disputing she nailed it, whether or not you agree with her politics. She is fearless, compassionate to the American people and patriotic. She loves her family and her country, and does not shy away from challenges regarding either.
And…to whomever it was above who said she was ashamed of her as a mother and she is obviously a failure as a parent??? Guess you are referring to her daughter’s pregnancy as being a failure – hmmm – do you have kids? OBVIOUSLY NOT – because you know that no matter what you do, no parent is perfect, we all make mistakes, and sometimes doing your best does not product the most optimal results. Don’t fault her for that – at least she stands by her kids – and one of them is fighting for your freedom!!!

Look at the issues and decide for yourself which candidate is the better match. For me, women’s rights, the environment, and healthcare reform are the issues I’m most concerned about. I don’t care about the color or race of the candidate. Neither party is doing a decent job of focusing on the ISSUES!

She is ready to take over as leader of the most powerful nation on earth but doesn’ know enough about world affairs to handle a interview. Palin supporters must think this is Star Search.

I would not vote for Hussein Obama for dog catcher, HE HAS NO EXPERIENCE IN RUNNING GOVERNMENT!! ALL he wants to do is RAISE TAXES on EVERYONE!!!
I really hope everyone REALLY find out about him, like he has not voted on 290 bills (45.5%) he has voted along democratic party lines 96% of the timehe is not the one to lead America, McCain-Palin are the only sensible choices.
