Does the White House Not Know the RNC’s Phone Number?

The Republican National Committee today released an ad slamming Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., for his economic plan.

But they did so by assailing the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act and Wall Street as well, which can’t be helpful to the White House’s goal of getting this bill passed. Can it?

The ad, called "Worse," reads like this: "Meltdown. Wall Street squanders our money. And Washington is forced to bail them out with, you guessed it, our money. Can it get any worse?"

The ad then goes on to attack how "under Barack Obama’s plan, the government would spend a trillion dollars more even after the bailout. A trillion dollars. Who pays? You do. New taxes, new spending, new debt. Barack Obama’s plan: it will make the problem worse."

All’s fair in love and war, but does President Bush really think having this message on the airwaves will help him pass the bill House leaders are talking about re-introducing Thursday?

- jpt

UPDATE: Lots of helpful folks are telling me that this ad is an "independent expenditure," meaning no coordination is allowed with the RNC arm putting it out. As Michael Corleone once said, "Who’s being naïve now, Kay?"

This was a stupid grab by the democrats to nationalize certain aspects of the economy.
Obama’s beloved black congressional caucus voted NAY.

It should have occurred to everyone by now, including the White House, that most Republicans are opposed to this bill, even if the President who proposed it is Republican.
The Republicans are listening to what their constituents, the ones who they represent, say, and not to the President, who their constituents do not approve of.

Even a few Democrats voted against the bailout. It must have been really bad. Dave Ramsey has a really good alternative on his website. The bill will eventually pass in some form. Now might be a pretty good time to buy a few cheap shares.

This is redicolous. The initial bail out plan was seriously flawed and so was the second. The congressional black caucus was protecting their constituency and I am one of them. I was not in favor of the bail out because it didn’t address the problems of the middle class and still allowed the “golden parachute” for the overpaid executives. If the congress presists on trying to pass a plan like that, it will never get there because “we the people” will continue to bombard their offices with complaints. If they want to cure this problem, they must have something in itfor the middle class and eleminate the pay for the fat cats!

McCain is as much responsible for this as anyone – his record of fighting for deregulation is a truth to his position. He even said that he thought deregualtion was good for the economy – so much for him thinking…..now everyone wants to blame the democrats and Obama. I have no problem with that if you can substanciate your position, but to say it just because everyone else is – why that is just stupid. My position is don’t bail them out – let it crash and let it burn and we can start over.
Yes it will hurt my retirement plan – but how many Americans don’t have one? You know the current state of our capitalistic society was for-told by Marx – he said ” give them enough rope and they will hang themselves.” Looks like it is happening now…

SOLUTION:
500K to every American over the age of 21 who don’t have felony convictions and/or not in prison.
Requirement: All debt including credit cards, school loans, car notes, etc have to be paid off completely. For mortgages, 250k goes to it off the bat.
50k requirement to keep in the bank for one year, no exceptions.
Credit crunch solved, economy booms, Americans are happy.
PROBLEM SOLVED!

At this point it appears that Bush and the democrats are and have always been in bed together….so to speak. I think also that all the politicians are really missing the point of how po’d most of us are at this mess going on right now. They are in a rush to “get something done” just to stop the questions of “how did this happen, who saw it coming amd who is responsible?
We taxpayers want answers.

This ad really doesn’t say anything new. I’m against a gov bailout and it seems like most of the country is too. Many in congress got so many e-mails and phone calls they had to listen and vote no. The Dems already have enough numbers to pass this on their own, so if it’s such a great plan and so “badly needed” why did 95 of them vote no?

7/28/08
Barack Obama, at a speech before the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials –
OBAMA “For eight long years Washington has not been working for ordinary Americans or for hardworking Latino Americans. Few have been hit harder than Latino Americans and African-Americans. You know what I’m talking about, the people like the couple I met in Las Vegas who were tricked into buying a house they couldn’t afford and are at risk of facing foreclosure.”
So how does Barney and Harry Reid make it so people won’t be tricked into buying homes they can’t afford. This is a real crisis. People should not be tricked in to buying homes. Obama is admitting these people should not have gotten mortgages so what do we do about it.

For the “Concerned Parrot”
This is a combined NAY effort from all, whether Repub or Democrat.
What’s funny is seeing politicians from all sides being held accountable to their constituents since November 4th is a defining day for most.
The voters now have them by the cajones. Vote for the bill and start updating your resume.
THAT’S WHY THIS BILL FAILED and unless their are guarantees locked in for all, it won’t pass a turtle.
The inevitable holds true;
POTUS OBAMA – IT’S A LOCK

Whatever this ad says, Sen. McCain has been calling for, bipartisanship. What else is new?
His failure to stand up to the democrats, is hurting him with the base. Just listen to talk radio. Conservatives are greatful to the Republicans who stood up for their principles.
In the end we might get a better bill. If not let the Democrats craft their own bill.

It is almost impossible to value the mortgages that have been passed around like the beer bong at a frat house. That is the biggest problem – and why should taxpayers have to foot the bill and buy valueless junk? Insuring these mortgages is difficult as well – so how exactly does the government do this? Blame lies both on the companies and people who bought beyond their means, but I say more to the company side as some people believe what they are told and assumed they wouldn’t get the shaft in their dealings. But to fix it – let it crash – we are resiliant and will come back from it – it may take a few years and cost many jobs and retirements but what’s worse – that or getting deeper in debt and never getting out of it?

J – Solution = Ron Paul. It is important to look at the CPI, M3, dollar value and other economic indicators to make an imformed decision on what is going on. Every one of these charts including stock market growth is exponential because of the inflationary monetary policy of the Federal Reserve since the gold backing of the dollar was dissolved. I believe the dollar is worth about 4 cents compared with 1900. Now the party is over because the bills have come due. The dollar is loosing its reserve currency for the world status. Obama’s spending programs are unrealistic and McCain’s militarism is downright stupid financially and arrogant. We will continue down the backside of this bubble regardless of the bailout.

Posted by: Ben Straub | September 30, 2008, 6:30 pm 6:30 pm

absolutely right. this bailout WAS NOT the ” sky is falling” crisis they wanted you to believe. im not saying there isnt big problems, and im not saying there dosent need to be a fix, but 700 billion dollars??!! this was a way for the far left, progressive DEMOCRATS in congress to get their long awaited dream of a nationalised economic system. bottom line, is that any member of congress that voted yes for this bill, should immediately be removed from their jobs. pay attention people. please look at the members that voted this thing down, and take note. they saved our country as we know it. we need to keep faith that with this second bill thats being prepared, they stay on the same moral ground. we need to pay very close attention right now to who does and says what. we are in desperate need of real leadership more than anything today.

Ben I have been taking a look at Ron Paul, but so far looking at McCain.
I find Ron Paul to be more pragmatic and I agree with your post.

Posted by: Concerned Democrat | September 30, 2008, 6:32 pm 6:32 pm

I would agree, although a Obama supporter, Ron Paul hit the nail on the head about this whole thing.
McCain is truly hurtin when Ron drains at least 20% of the Repub vote from him. Add Bob Barr in the mix and it makes lipstick on a pig look “exotic”.
Not pretty, my friends. After this is over, he might get 35% of the vote.
Translation: LANDSLIDE BY OBAMA

Posted by: Nat Turner | September 30, 2008, 6:32 pm 6:32 pm

There is a simple solution to the whole thing. First off, there was no “plan B” when this came up. Paulson is a Wall Street guy. OF COURSE he is going to want to help Wall Street, because I wonder where he will be going in 4 months? hmmm… How about the Leighton Plan. Under the extreme premise of the plan of taking $750B of public(taxpayers’) money to give to private institutions. Is there any guarantee that these companies HAVE to stay in business after they get the money? I mean in reality, they got rid of their bad debt, have no loss, and now the gov’t owns the bad debt.
How about giving every non EIC eligible taxpayer the money. $75K for single $150 married/head of house. Why not EIC? because the premise of EIC is that one does not make enough money to pay taxes anyway, so there was no “true” stake in the $750B. Sure you are going to have maybe 10% that are going to buy big screen TVs, but the rest will take that money to pay off debt that is going to go to these financial institutions ANYWAY! Therefore, these companies get the money, and the taxpayer maintains their investment and credit.

Palin/McCain haven’t made an ounce of sense since September 15th. Why fret about consistency or the good of the contry now?
ABC’s poll shows that 47% opposed the bailout while 45% supported it.

In my town there were 2 convictions for mortgage fraud last week. One: because some regular guy figured out how to get over appraisals on property and skim 5+ million, yes million off the top. 15 years, and a fine, federal case
The other: 61 mortgages obtained with fraudulent or stolen social security #s provided by the agent. Agent received over 400k in commission (that’s about 8 million in property) and ?. Some of the mortgages are in default. Sentence 18 months suspended and 25k fine. Case was local, feds say it was “not big enough” to warrant federal charges.
Darn right we are mad. Will someone please put these people in jail, and get our money back.

So, did Obama help the country in debate when his first sentence is to blame Bush and McCain’s supporting role (if he thinks yes)?
Did Obama have a sense of putting country first?
Was Obama a US senator during Bush administration? If yes, should Obama NOT responsible at all for the failure?
Even the kids in elementary school were taught that, every citizen should be responsible for making the country better. Do not ask what the country gave to you, ask what you gave to the country.
Obama blame too much, I would like to see more ACTUAL actions, ACTUAL accomplishments from him.
I’m not comfortable of him being the president in 08.

McCain again incorrectly links government spending with the economy. Government spending only hurts the economy when it is going to Foreign Countries. Iraq is a foreign country, tax breaks for jobs in India. Government programs such as construction is a stimulus to the economy because it provides jobs.
Just ask yourself how did we get out of the Great Depression? Look in a history book and you’ll see government spending in the answer.

This is a disgrace. Thank Obama. He is a disgrace as well. Obama prays on the young college students because they are easily influenced by his rhetoric. They don’t have the experience to realize the consequences of what will happen to this country under an Obama regime.

Ron Paul won’t get anywhere with the media because the GOP has chosen to marginalize him.
If the GOP insiders treat him like a freak, then the media is going to stick with that narrative.
The GOP has chosen its “Maverick” and they picked Senator McCain and Sarah Palin. Why? Because they seem Mavericky, but can be trusted to follow their own ambitions, which require them to ultimately stick to the official playbook.
It’s a shame what passes for common sense in the GOP these days… but that’s what you get when you turn your party over to people like George Bush, Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh, et al.
The Democrats aren’t much better. But our best bet is to punish the GOP for their stupidity rather than reward them. WHo knows… maybe they will get their senses back after 4 years in the doghouse… but I doubt it. They are just too corrupt.

Carolyn,
I am sorry to point this out… but you don’t need to worry about Truth Squads.
A “truth squad” is a group of paid and volunteer public relations staff employed by a campaign to correct false statements made by the opposing campaign. Both McCain and Obama have truth squads.
Though they use the word “squad,” a truth squad is not a police, military, or militia unit. Rather, they are using squad in the same way that you might hear a high school cheerleading coach refer to a “spirit squad.”
Responding in terror to a “truth squad” is like, to borrow from Mark Twain, mistaking the “lightning” for the “lightning bug.” One will burn you to a crisp… the other is a cute and harmless insect.
I know in these uncertain times, there are many things to be frightened of in this world. Fortunately, “truth squads” are not one of them.
Cheers!

The Republicans are listening to what their constituents, the ones who they represent, say, and not to the President, who their constituents do not approve of.
————–
True,
They are more concerned with their own re-election than doing what is best for the country. Their constituents are fools who have absolutely no idea what is actually happening.
This is not just a small blip in our economy. The flag-waving psuedo patriots saying “we’re capitalists” are idiots that buy into what they are being fed by dumb talk radio hosts and right wing morons.
We already have a mixed economic system. It is NOT pure capitalism. It never has been. Tariffs, regulations, subsidies, etc do not exist in pure capitalism. But none of you ever complained about that.
Why do you think the PRESIDENT, McCAIN, AND OBAMA think this bill should pass? Because they all just want to help the rich? Some of you idiots better get off your pompous asses and realize the consequences of rejecting the buy out. The rich will still be rich, it’s the middle class that will get screwed!
Do you really believe that everything will be fine if we let our banking system collapse? That it will just slow things down for a few weeks?
No one WANTS this buy out, but it is necessary.
Infrastructure DOES NOT get built without lending. Homes DO NOT get built or bought without lending. People DO NOT go to college without lending. Everything stops. Businesses close. Economic growth stops. Recession and the Depression sets in.
Yes, it is real and it is that serious. You pinheads will be the same ones crying when you have no job and loose your homes because of your self-righteous attitudes. Then you’ll point fingers at everyone else.
