Giuliani Praises Palin, Slams Obama and Biden

ABC News’ Jennifer Duck reports: In what could be dubbed a warm-up act before his big address to the Republican National Convention tonight, Rudy Giuliani defended Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and sharply attacked Democratic rivals Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. Joe Biden at the New York delegate luncheon in Minneapolis.

The former New York mayor said the "unrelenting attacks" on Republican vice presidential nominee Palin are "in the gutter" and "below the standards of journalism."

"I’ve never seen attacks like that, even in all my time in New York City," Giuliani said.

Giuliani touted Palin’s experience as mayor and governor of Alaska, adding, "Sorry, Sen. Obama, if the city’s not big enough for you."

He added with sarcasm, "They’re probably part of that group of people that clings to religion and guns.  That’s part of the group that doesn’t count small town America. You don’t study about them at Harvard, I guess."

Giuliani said the "vicious attacks" and questions about Palin’s family "in all decency, should be off limits."

"What do her children have anything to do with what kind of vice president she’s gonna make?" he asked. "What does anybody’s children have to do with that?"

Giuliani also questioned feminists who, he believes, aren’t defending Palin like they defended past female officials.

"Where are the liberal feminist groups?  Where are they?  I think they’re really liberal groups.  Take the second part out," Giuliani said.  "Because how do you raise questions like this: ‘Does Sarah Palin have the time to be a mother and vice president?’ Well, I don’t know, does Barack Obama have the time to be a father and president? John McCain? George Bush? Al Gore? John Kerry? I can go on and on. I never remember that question being asked."

Drawing a comparison to Sen. Hillary Clinton’s run for the White House, Giuliani said, "Let’s start treating Sarah Palin the same way we would if she were a Democratic woman on a ticket."

Giuliani then launched sharp attacks on Obama and Biden.

He counted the times Obama voted present in the Illinois legislature, saying, "You don’t get to walk into the Oval Office when Russia is bombing Georgia and vote present and say, ‘gee, guys, I’m here. You gotta tell me what to do.’"

Giuliani also criticized Biden for talking too much, practically calling him a Washington wind bag. "Joe’s got a lot of experience — talking, and talking, and talking," Giuliani said, adding that Palin "has experience doing."

You mean Rudy actually said something that did not include references to terrorism and 9/11? A worthless mayor who if it werent’t 9/11 would have been long forgotten. I will say he does experience running a diverse and heavily populated area. NYC is 100 times larger in population than Alaska. Perhaps he would have made a better VP candidate.

Only Rudy could work a subtle 9/11 reference into this comment. he seems to forget to mention that Palin was for the bridge before she was against it, and that she had no issue lobbying for millions in earmarks for her town before she came out so strongly against them.

Way to go Rudy….tell it like it is! However if you ask the Dems to treat Gov. Palin the way they did Hill the bots will have to kick her in the teeth.

These comments coming from a man who had a affair while married and in office.

9/11 reference: “I’ve never seen attacks like that, even in all my time in New York City,” Guiliani said.
as far as the size of AK, I assume you are refering to the geographic size and I can see why that might matter to you Rudy. A town of less than 9000? I mean don’t they basically take turns being Mayor there? A state with less than 700K people and a built in surplus, that she managed to squander in less than two years. aren’t you a bit peeved since based on her ‘experience’ you are far more qualified?

GUILIANI–ALL WINDUP AND NO FASTBALL AS HE PROVED IN THE PRIMARIES–ASK ANYONE IN NYC( ESPECIALLY THE HEROIC FIREFIGHTERS ) WHAT THEY THINK OF THIS WEASEL.HE IS NOT ONLY DECEITFUL BUT IMMORAL AS WELL–WHAT A LOSER !!!!!!

This coming from a man, who thought he could win the Republican nomination by only campaiging in Florida. Put a sock in it Rudy, if it wasnt for 9/11 the world would have forgotten abt you a long time ago. I’m starting to think he’s a tadbit jealous of Obama, cause he’s a better more talented politican. Poor Rudy cant stand to be out of the spotlight.

Is Rudy stiill talking? Peggy Noonan has been caught on tape saying Palin was a sham. That she was picked to come and say a story.

As an Obama supporter I do not care that her daughter got pregnant. I have nothing but sympathy for her daughter.I do question Palin’s judgement about accepting the VP position knowing her entire family situation. She had to know that her daughter’s pregnancy would become news. Since we know so little about Palin and have so little time to get to know her all the questions need to be asked. They were asked of Obama over the last 19 months. The Republicans show no mercy with Obama and they expect everyone to just accept what they tell us about Palin. That’s not American. We have the right to know.

- - – - VETTING? – - – -
Had Obama been vetted re Wright before the first nine primaries (March 13), Clinton would be the democratic candidate today. After that it was nip and tuck in the voting, and she almost won even with the nine loss handicap. Now the Obama supporter hypocrites hoot about Palin not being vetted. What a bunch of shallow losers.

It is kind of funny that Obamanuts keep questioning Sarah’s judgement. Let me ask you: What judgement does Obama have given the fact he spent more than 20 years in Rev. Wright’s church and allowed his two daughters to be exposed to evil sermons from Wright? What judgement does Obama have when he launched his political campaign from William Ayer’s house?

It appears to matter little to Guiliani’s straw man argument that both Biden and Obama have refused to comment on the Palin family pregnancy, saying such talk is offensive and “off limits” without any bearing on her ability to serve as VP. But I guess that is easier. Create your opponent as a straw man, no matter the lacking resemblance to the alter ego, and then shoot this straw man down. Way to go Guiliani, you reminded me why to ignore you here on forward.

Storybook kind of endorsements too.

What did Obama say that is worse than anything you have ever heard in a campaign ? Just like the GOP to make a moronic claim without backing it up. They cry sexism ( lie )

The contrast between both Democrats and Republicans is clear. The questions we ask of our candidates are important like theor judgment – Americans have a right to take a close look at McCain’s choice of VP who is a heartbeat away from the Presidency.
I can see why people are not inspired by McCain’s choice this was McCain running to the right, which left out the rest of America.
What doesn’t inspire us is the Republicans are going after the media on this. We are talking about the mainstream media who are asking the questions that are on our minds about the decision making process of McCain.

Her daughter and her child will be cared for by her family, principally the father who already is the primary caregiver – not some public assistance program. Accordingly, the matter should be personal and private, and the mother will have time needed (as she does now) to earn an income for the family. The Angry Left is not made at her, per se, just anything that stands in their way.

Oh George, Its so sad that you actually believe that all Reverend Wright talked about in his sermons was the white devil. Its pathetic that you allowed soundbites to influence your opinion of the talented and gifted soldier of God.
Please cleanse your heart of such foolishness, so that you dont burn in hell.
And lets talk about judgement. I dont know much about Gov.Palin, and i want attack her, so instead I’ll just say that she’s a very pretty white woman, who I’m sure could do a better job running this country than that idiot George Bush. Now that and someone who voted with him 90% percent of the time is who i would say has poor judgement.
I like McCain, I think he’s a really funny old white man, and Its great to have such a great american who was a POW running for president. My Grandpapa fought in the Vietnam War for this great country, and then came home to be treated like a 2nd class citizen by White America. But I know black folks should get over that. Its in the past, just like the Reverend Wright issue.

Poor Obama, the Palin pick is really making people think twice about HIS qualifications. It must be tough.
Now millions will watch Palin’s speech and that’s what Obama DOESN’T need right now. Particularly if she’s good, which she always is.
Karma, baby, karma.

Hey Concerned Voter let me help you
Hypocrisy (or the state of being a hypocrite) is the act of preaching a certain belief or way of life, but not, in fact, holding these same virtues oneself. For example, a VP elect telling children they should abstain from sex, while secretly ( here not so secretly) has their own children having sex.
Palin should practice what she preaches.
We are refering to her polical views and parenting , not her children.
For the record – you brought this up ‘concerned voter’ We are not angry , you are stupid !

The Republicans are sly trying to deflect the attention away from McCain. The comparison is not between Palin and Obama as the Republicans want us to focus. The comparison is between McCain and Obama – which has a better temperment and aptitude to be president. The first test is the primaries where Obama proved himself and McCain somehow just lasted longest. The second test is selection of a running mate and I think it is safe to say McCain failed this test badly. Cowboy, Maverick, Roll the Dice, however you want to say it we don’t need McCain and his decision making process running the country.

People don’t attack a candidate with such anger and viciousness, especially a VP candidate as in Gov Palin….. UNLESS THAT CANDIDATE IS A SERIOUS THREAT TO THEM. AND THE LIBS HAVE EVERY REASON TO FEAR GOV. PALIN – AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HER FAMILY. Libs are afraid of any strong conservative female OR any strong conservative black. WHY? LIBS ARE AFRAID THAT IF UNCHECKED THOSE CONS WOULD CREATE A FOLOWING WHICH WOULD CUT INTO THE LIB BASE – AND THAT OF COURSE IS TRUE – IT WOULD!!!

Hey Rudy, what about all the unrelenting and vicious attacks on Obama? Apparently you had no problem with those. The Repugs started down this lowroad and now are crying foul because it cuts both ways. You want to paint Mcbush’s VP choice as some sainted mother, well, this is politics and if Palin can’t handle the heat, she should get out of the kitchen. McBush plucked her out of nowhere and yet you waaa-waaa about how everyone is scrutinizing her. Well, that’s the way it goes when your Republican party set the standard for personal attacks.

The Republicans want the issue against Sarah Cheney Palin to be about the Palin family and not the REAL Sarah Cheney Palin.
The only subject to make her palatable to the country is make her a victim. In fact she is a combination the worst of the qualities of Cheney and Bush. She fires anyone around her that does not believe in her radical views. She tried to fire a librarian because the town librarian did not bend to Palin’s censorship desires. Sarah Cheney Palin took over a small town budget that was balanced and left it with a ballooning deficit. She raised taxes in sales tax to cut taxes on businesses. The tax burden on each citizen was higher than when she went in office. Sarah Cheney Palin fired the chief of police because he was trying to protect the town of ballooning DUI’s. Sarah Cheney Palin went into office of a little town that had 9 Meth lab bust over the previous year and left with Meth lab bust in her last year in office of over 40 Meth lab bust. Now that is family values.
When you cross Sarah Cheney Palin, she is known to take you out. Does this sound familiar? Sacrifice our national security by committing treason to get back at some one who does not agree with you.
Our country and way of life is at risk if we allow another Cheney in Washington. Do not let the stop picking on her family fool you. The smoke screen was released BY the McCain Campaign on Sunday in order to redirect the issue about Sarah Cheney Palin to her family and from the REAL Sarah Cheney Palin they do NOT want us to get to know …. until it is too late.
Be afraid…. Be VERY Afraid!!!!!

It is more than unfortunate that those Obama voters who look to him for economic improvements in their lives will be hurt the most by his presidency. Most business people understand this, but those with little or no understanding of economics will also be forced to carry part of the burden of increasing the size of the government by twenty – thirty percent as Obama wants to to do, in order to accommodate his entitlement programs. Obama says that he will tax big oil and big business more, but history has shown that corporations will either pass those costs on to the consumers, meaning us, cut back on operations or move their business to offshore or foreign markets where business environments are more friendlier. When this happens, several events traditionally follow: THE DOLLAR SHRINKS IN VALUE, FOREIGN IMPORTS COST MORE, PAYCHECKS SHRINK (higher taxes), FOLKS CUT BACK ON SPENDING AND RECESSION OR DEPRESSION SETS IN. US CORPORATIONS PAY THE 2nd HIGHEST TAXES IN THE WORLD – IS IT ANY WONDER THAT MANY OF THEM ARE MOVING OVERSEAS? AN OBAMA PRESIDENCY WOULD JUST SPEED THAT PROCESS UP. (From a retired Catholic schoolteacher)

Even conservative commentators are lining up against Palin. She’s basically just unqualified for the job. Rove said that even being gov of virginia is not good enough to be VP (much less alaska). Noonan said he choice was “cynical and gimmicky” that she’s “unqualified”. David Frum thinks she is a disaster. You dont’ even have to ask the liberals to find out that Palin is a nightmare for the GOP.

TEMAGAMI —
Has it occurred to you that our bad financial situation has come about during the long reign of an irresponsible republican administration? In fact, over the last 30 years there has been far more growth and less inflation during democratic admins. Yeah, I agree we’re in a financial mess, but has it occured to you it might be due to the republican approach of “spend a trillion on a war we don’t need” and then deregulate until something collapses (S+L, Mortgage). Maybe the dems could do better — they certainly couldn’t do any worse than the Bush policy that McCain supports and promises to continue.

Posted by: econPhD | September 3, 2008, 7:24 pm 7:24 pm

Interesting. Palin gets viewed under a microscope and Obama gets viewed with sunglasses (not cheap ones, either).
Doesn’t McCain or Biden have anything to do with this campaign anymore?
Also interesting that Obama’s being compared in a tooth and nail fight with a potential VP…guess that’s good for him because he can avoid arguing the issues with McCain and allow Liberals to be indignant over teen (barely…17…come on now) pregnancy.
Maybe the strategy is to show that Obama is maybe qualified to be a VP himself and work up from there.

Sorry Jimbo: In fact Palin admitted on video that “we went to war for oil” ! She also admitted that she has no idea what the VP is supposed to do. She also admitted that she doesn’t know anything about foreign policy. She’s a disaster.
McCain is also a disaster but mainly because he is a flip-flopper. I cant’ think of one issue he hasn’t changed his mind on:
Taxes: Against bush tax cuts, then for them
Iraq: Would be easy, then would be hard
Getting out of Iraq: 100 years then 2 years
… and the list goes on.
Didnt’ the repubs bash Kerry for blowing in the wind. I think McCain is worse. Once he actually opposed bush (maybe he was a maverick then), now he is just a rubber stamp running for bush’s third term.

The Dems are not scared, but heaven forid if anything should happen to McCain and the women should become president. Do you really think the Middle East is gonna give her the respect and time of day? They don’t even respect their own women, much less a women from the US. NOW THAT IS A SCARY THOUGHT!!! The Reps are all trying to make it look rosy for their party, but lets not forget who’s side McCain has been on. I credit the man for his service and give gratitude, but come on….that does not make him a qualified leader for our country. I stand by Obama. There will never be full agreement in views in our country, but you Reps that put Bush in office, are paying the price just like the rest of our country…do you want another 4 years of that??? come on America! WAKE UP!!! Look at the facts and the clear picture that has been painted so well by Bush and his admins. God help us if the right choice is not made this time. Our Country cannot withstand anymore abuses from the Bush admin. or anyone that has been associated with him and his admin.

milo.
Four more years of exactly what? I live in NE Ohio which has seen some tough times. STILL HAVE TO WAIT IN LONG LINES FOR FAST FOOD WITH CARS IDLING, BURNING GAS. MOST ARE AVERAGE PEOPLE WITH AVERAGE JOBS. RECORD LOTTERY, ALCOHOL AND CIGARETTE SALES. Won the war in Iraq – no thanks to the dems who kept telling us that the war was lost, surge wouldn’t work, etc. I get a chuckle as I picture an Amishman reading your post about how bad things have become in the last eight years. If Obama gets in – YOU WILL LEARN WHAT REAL CHAOS IS, AND FAST!!!

Where is that black box, Rudy? What am I talking about? Here’s a reminder:

Manitu it wasn’t the dems that started the war in Iraq. The REAL CHAOS IS IF WE KEEP THE REPS in office…SOOOOO today I hear that Bush is giving Georgia 1 BILIION to help restore what the Russion did…now just where do you suppose that money will be coming from? WHAT ABOUT OUR PEOPLE???? OUR COUNTRY??? OUR NEEDS???? OUR CHILDRES NEEDS???? not the mention the future of our grandchildren…what will their future be like….and it’s all because of OIL….that is what Bush and his admin has been all about…not the welfare of the Americans…we need to take care of our own FIRST!!

Milo.
If it’s all about oil – WHERE IS IT?

If Giuliani is so concerned with Dems attacking Palin’s family (Obama even said they shouldn’t), why no mention of McCain’s tasteless Chelsea Clinton joke??

WOW!!!!!! WAY TO GO, GOV. PALIN AND RUDY!! TWO ABSOLUTE, HOME RUN SPEECHES!!!

Posted by: Manitu | September 3, 2008, 11:22 pm 11:22 pm

Rudy and Palin nailed phony blowhard Obama. What will the Slobbering Liberoid Democrat Media Shills for Obama do for their ongoing orgy of lies, smears and gutter politics aimed at Gov. Palin.

Substance vs theatrics and hollywood special effects. I can t wait till the moderators pose the question what have you actually done to bring change. Obama is going to be exposed as one who has never brought any changing legislation, but promises to part the sea and raise the dead. Biden is going to be exposed as an entrenched Washington liberal bureaucrat. Forget the polls now. This might already be over.

Jane you miss the point. And Peggy Noonan too if she didn t like the speech. Its substance. What one has done not what they sound like. Remember Cary Bush. Oh Cary he sounded more presidential, but the guy could not pass the mainstream test.

Palin said:
Obama uses change to build a career.
McCain uses a career to build change.
She hit it out of the park, so did Rudy.
YEA!!! GO PALIN, GO!!!

Jimmy Carter recently said McCain was milking his prisoner of war status. This comment illustrates perfectly the lack of character that Cater has and why he should never have been allowed to be president.

He is a charasmatic gasbag.

Are you really a Clinton supporter shows the intel of the dems. Keep writing, your really helping the other side.

Thank you Mr. Guiliani for pointing out Obama’s indecision quality. 130 times he couldn’t make a decision. Or deliberatly refused to make a decision. Thats not leadership. Hillary was right, McCain brings real experience. Obama brings speeches.

Concerned voter, the Right was America when it flourished. Its who we are. And I would never apologize for it. Our history has dark periods, but its the forward advancement to make things right that counts. The republicans led the fight against slavery not the dems. Do you think killing unborn children is mainstream? This debate is won and over.

What do you mean there were no references to 911? did you see the backdrop, a skyline of NYC post 911 with a clear gap where the towers stood. “subtle” (i’ll leave that up to debate) hints at the attacks, fear, fear, fear. “islamic terrorists”. OMG I have had just enough of these people,to the point that i get visibily distressed when i hear them spew out this garbage, war mongering, divisive politcs. When in any of the addresses did you hear about their SPECIFIC plans for the middle class? thats cause they have none.

Independent Voter -
A poll driven speech written by Schmidt and Rove delivered by their newest student Gov. Sarah Palin at the Republican convention.
Her attack with a smile means more negative ads.
Schimidt and Rove can’t spin a extreme-conservative on the issues into a moderate.
She will attempt to draw the Democrats into the mud and fight.
What is disturbing is the attacks on the media. We count on the media to ask the questions we can’t ask
but we want to know about.
The Republican tactics against the media are McCarthyism.
This is a Democracy!

Guiliani speech provided some good theater even though it is aimed at the ignorant voter.
- Obama’s 130 present votes were out of a total of 4000 in 8 years, (about 3%). Some of his “Present” votes were at the request of PlannedParenthood, who did not want badly written Pro-life bills to come to the floor.
- Obama’s even-handed position on Russia/Georgia actually recognized that Russia can veto any proposal on the security council while McCain’s pompous defense of Georgia did not. It confirms to the world that McCain will talk tough like Bush but can actually do very little.
- And comparing Biden’s experience to Sarah Palin’s is too laughable to even clarify

Palin really electrified the GOP last night. The Republicans haven’t been in this kind of a frenzy over a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed young woman since Clinton was President.

Dear fomer Mayor Gulliani,
you said Obama is nothing. It can be true.
Can you please compare how you did run your presidential and His Presidential Compain? Remeber you were a Mayor before?
Enough is truly enough
God bless you!

Ahh, the good ol’ days.
When Clinton was in office, our biggest worries was who was “smokin’” his cigars and where he kept his cigars before he smoked ‘em.
‘Tis true that we don’t know how good we have it ’til it’s gone…

Giuliani is a total idiot, and a worthless Bush worshiper.
