John McCain’s Double “Rope Line” Standard

This morning on This Week with George Stephanopoulos, confronted with comments by Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin that seemed to undermine his argument that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., was naive and irresponsible when he discussed military options about Pakistan "out loud" (more on that HERE), Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., suggested that the problem was the media taking casual comments as if their were policy proclamations.

"She did fine," McCain said. "She did just fine….This business of, in all due respect, people going around and — with sticking a microphone while conversations are being held, and then all of a sudden that’s — that’s a person’s position, this is a free country, but I don’t think most Americans think that that’s a definitive policy statement made by Governor Palin. And I would hope you wouldn’t, either."

Waitasec.

Isn’t that EXACTLY what the McCain campaign did with an errant off-message comment Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., made about clean coal?

Complete with a TV ad about it, even?

So is there a reason for a double-standard for Palin? Or is it just standard issue campaign hypocrisy?

why do you have the braclet story up when you didn’t do the background on it?

Your words:
Conservatives are now criticizing Obama for exploiting a fallen soldier whose mother has asked him to stop wearing the bracelet or mentioning her son’s name. I’m not sure what the reality is behind this story — I have a call into the Obama campaign and Tracy Jopek to find out more about this story, and will let you know what they say.

Interesting that, without the McCain campaign coaching, Palin makes a bit of sense even if she expresses herself poorly.

Dear Debra,
Obama called McCain “John” and looked at him during the debate because he was trying to project he and McCain were equals on the issue of foreign policy. McCain’s use of body language and choice not to address Obama directly was his reply – that no, they are not equals in the subject of foreign policy.
This isn’t nuanced or difficult to understand. It is body language 101. Your analysis is flawed, because John McCain was not trying to impress Obama. He was trying to address Americans. His communication was not an appeal to Obama, it was an appeal to America.

Here’s the difference, pal. The McCain CAMPAIGN is playing up Biden’s coal gaffe.
IT IS YOU IN THE MEDIA WHO ARE PLAYING UP PALIN’S “GAFFES”. YOU ARE LIKE A FREE 527 FOR OBAMA SINCE MCCAIN HAS TO PAY FOR COMMERCIAL TIME TO HIGHLIGHT BIDEN’S STUPIDITY, WHILE YOU GUYS IN THE MEDIA SLAM PALIN FOR FREE.

Some people have no soul to such an extend that they dare open their ignorant mouth about how Palin should of aborted her child. How dissapointing! Real women I believe don’t get rape because they have a strong family with brothers and a father that taught her well, who protect her properly. They get married and never abort a single child. Real women should support Mrs. Palin, and in such a case where even their children make an error, we don’t have to pretend and be hipocrits and perhaps no such thing will happen because you learned from Mrs. Palins “mistake”.
Anyways, may God understand I. I don’t understand Barrack, he has no sons, grew up in welfare, was abondoned by his father, and likes killing babies. I rather die than ever support him. I think his misfortune is karmatic.
John McCain is my hero, and I wish to be next to him in heaven.

I find it pretty hilarious that people are saying that they will vote for Obama now, based on the fact that McCain showed “tense” body language & was “rude” because he wouldn’t look Obama in the eye. If the fact that McCain was rude is going to sway you as a voter, than this county is in serious trouble. For those of you who were bothered by McCain’s “rudeness”, did you also happen to notice how frequently during the debate Obama was smirking? Of course that wasn’t rude at all!

Was he part of the negotiations that he rushed back to Washington, DC to rescue? Was he valiantly battling the forces of the status quo to get something done for Main Street?
Well, it turns out that he wasn’t. Instead, he indulged in a luxury dining experience at CityZen, an icon of haute cuisine in Washington, DC., as various media reported.
John McCain is done, as a presidential candidate.

Sara/Brenda,
I felt John McCain was more rude. You seem to not have notice McCain’s constant smirking and rude/patronizing tone he took with Obama. “You don’t seem to understand, your naive” ~”I think you’re stupid” when clearly Obama did.
Btw, Brenda,
The moderator wanted the candidates to address each other. Also, calling a colleague by their first name suggests he respect him on a personal level.
Also, since you don’t know, it is a Senate/Parliamentary Practice to be overy formal (The Senator, The Gentleman) as an underhanded insult to suggest someone isn’t living up to their title, when clearly Obama has.

Allan,
My point is not who was more rude….I was just addressing those people that said they would now be voting for Obama because he was more “presidential” looking & also because he was more gracious. First of all, if you’re going to base your decision on looks, then you’ve got a big problem.
As for this comment:
“Also, since you don’t know, it is a Senate/Parliamentary Practice to be overy formal (The Senator, The Gentleman) as an underhanded insult to suggest someone isn’t living up to their title, when clearly Obama has.”
You can pretty much read the debate by whatever bias you have going into it. It wouldn’t have mattered what McCain did….I’m sure the McCain haters would have found some idiotic thing to pick on……never mind the fact that his debate was backed up by facts & knowledge.

Posted by: Sara | September 28, 2008, 3:57 pm 3:57 pm

McCain did not consider himself equal to Obama and that left a bitter taste in my mouth-McCain protrayed himself as superior-almost a hegemonic tone based on color?
McCain is more concerned about being right than doing the right thing.
Haven’t we experienced this the last 8 years? Why would would we want to continue this-
The message of having 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling will be wiped out by McCain-what we be in for is that glass ceiling oppressing all of us in many ways-Diversity is not a belief in McCains life- I honestly think he doesn’t like women and that is why Palin is on the ticket-to sugar coat his machoism!

Posted by: Sophia | September 28, 2008, 4:01 pm 4:01 pm

No I would not call Obama naive! Update on the “legal suit” again Barack Obama:
All he had to do was present a certified copy of the original birth certificate from Hawaii and Obama will NOT do so. Why? Instead the Democratic National Convention on Thursday, September 24, 2008 filed a motion to dismiss the Berg vs. Obama lawsuit on the basis that the Court does not have jurisdiction because Mr. Berg “lacks standing to challenge the qualifications of a candidate for President of the United States” — A delay tactic and more delays until after the Election?
Now we learn – Senator Obama has lied to the American public and that Barack Obama has dual citizenship admitted by his own Campaign (website) and by Annenberg— So, the Senator WAS a Dual National. Senator Obama is a Constitutional lawyer so he is WELL AWARE of the fact that he is probably INELIGIBLE to hold the office of President of the US. What about Indonesia, has he lied here too. The fact he hasn’t bothered to produce these documents is far more troubling than anything they might reveal.

To ange,
Why the RACE card?
BTW, for your info. Obama is ACTUALLY half Black Arab and Half white. NOT Black descendent from Black slaves.
The Black American who are the descendents of the EARLY Black Slaves do not differentiate between Black Arab and Black American.
Obama is more into radical MUSLIM thing than most Black American who are TRUELY Christians. I attended one of their services and to my surprise they treated me just like one of them w/out those “weird” look (What are you doing here kinda?)
For the Black Voters out there just remember this:
Obama is NOT for YOU.
Obama is for himself.
He said that his color of skin wasn’t an issue during the Primaries. After he pushed out Hillary, he used the RACE card against McCain. How flip/flop?

The day after the RNC convention I predicted to my friends Ms Palin would bow out by Oct 15. I never believed she was intended to make the final run to the White House with McSilly aka McChicken Old Man. Another Gov. is poised and ready and this was McChilly’s Shock and Awe GOTCHA to get the spotlight back on him.
For McCain’s next magic circus trick (due soon), sadly the Palin’s tiny son will become ill (or perhaps another manufactured crisis) and only a mother’s love will save the day. Go home Mama Moose take care of your calf and let America move on. Frankly you have more baggage than a Greyhound bus. We wish you well and admire your moxie BUT all good things must come to an end. You are becoming a perfect example of what a pimp does to a trick in feeding her false hopes. I’m sorry, but that moose just can’t grunt.
YOU will be gracious and we, err…”liberals” will be kind because we too believe family should be first! (Wink, Wink)

Here’s the problem with the argument that McCain was trying to address Americans instead of Obama: McCain also didn’t look at the camera. Obama did. If you want the folks watching on TV to think you are addressing them, you need to look at the camera. McCain looked at his notes, or the moderator, or the audience in the hall, but not at Obama or the camera.
By addressing McCain as John, Obama gave the impression that he really did want to close the gap between parties, he wanted to be friends, not enemies. Now some of you may think this is disrespectful, but as PR it’s a lot more effective than standing like a statute, grimacing when your debate opponent speaks, and appearing arrogant and condescending, which is how McCain appeared. This isn’t the U.S. Senate. It’s television. If McCain and his campaign advisors didn’t know that, then I question their judgment.

McCain will wipe the floor with Obama at the next “town hall” debate. I really can’t wait. Neither of these two won this debate. However, McCain, who hadn’t really had time to gather his thoughts because he was in Washington doing his job as a senator and putting “country first”, will be even more prepared at the next debate. Obama will be toast as usual. Chris Wallace stated that McCain won this debate and will most likely be the next POTUS. Obama continues with his “empty suit no substance” rhetoric.

The appropriate question here is not about the debate and recent events-it is “what has the recent behavior of the candidate’s told us about their temperament and how they react in difficult situations?”
In the last several months, we have seen Mr. McCain state “the fundamentals of the economy are strong” while Wall Street melted down, make a bizarre decision to try to delay the debates when he did not need to do so, reverse course after blasting in like a white-hatted cowboy and be rude and condescending on stage to Mr. Obama rather than behaving in an appropriate, professional, respectful fashion. We have also seen him nominate a candidate for Vice President not based on her qualifications for the job, or based on a thorough vetting of her abilities, but based solely on a politically cynical attempt to score political points.
This tells me Mr. McCain is a major risk-taker who will REACT without thinking things through fully. Against this, I see a candidate who, while admittedly “cool and intellectual, rather than passionate, takes his time and studies the issues before commiting to a course of action.
I believe we need someone now who is able to think long-term, not short term, and who has the temperament to take his time, study the issues and make informed decisions. We do not need a flip-flopping, jump off the cliff first and hope the lemmings follow President for another four years. The politics of fear Mr. McCain espouses, coupled with his willingness to take uncalled for and unnecessary risks is the same type of behavior that got us into Iraq, among other things, over the past eight years.
And for those of you who are assuming that this is another “liberal” making these statements-the first year I voted, I voted for Ronald Regan. I have supported Republicans in the House, including Heather Wilson, and the Senate, including Pete Domenici (who will be sorely missed). I have never made a decision based solely on party affiliation. I might very well have been convinced to vote for a balanced McCain/Liberman ticket. Based on recent events, however, I must conclude that John McCain’s overall behavior makes him a danger to this country. He lacks judgment, he does not understand the economy, he reacts without thinking and his temperament makes him utterly unsuited to be President.

When it come to Herley Dabidson CO. “COUNTRY FIRST” is not meant to be US first.
When it somes to DHL jobs in OH, “COUNTY FIRST” is not meant to be US first.
So, when McCain/Falin says “country first” it often means some other country, not US. Like Palin said that she would not second gess Israel ==>
CONTRY FIRST (ISRAEL FIRST, not USA)

I’m sure EVERYONE KNOWS this already, but………
For those who prefer facts over fantasy, the preliminary electoral numbers are clear in that this will be a massive landslide by Obama.
The states that Obama already has securely within his grasp give him a preliminary total today of 223 electoral votes, and that doesn’t include CO, NEV, OH, MI, VA, PA or FL. Considering the reality of this, it’s quite likely that he will win FL, CO, VA and either MI or OH. Obama only needs 3 out of the 10 battleground states to win the election and it looks like he’ll win at least 6 of the 10 EASY. Virginia? Obama. Colorado? Obama. Florida? Obama. Michigan? Obama. Iowa? Obama The reality is, Obama is very strong in all of these states and with McCain giving up a major gaff every other day, if not every day, he’s sealing an Obama
victory.
McCain has to win 9 out of 10 battleground states to keep the race close, and even the GOP’s best spinster cheerleaders know that’s not going to happen. For starters, he NEEDS to win FL, OH, MI, CO, PA and VA WITHOUT QUESTION, but the grim reality is that he’ll only win one. (Two with a miracle) I’ll be very nice and give McCain PA and OH, and even with those two states, he maxes out at 238 electoral votes. To top it off, start subtracting votes when Ron Paul pulls votes in Ohio and PA while Bob Barr pulls votes in GA from massive independent and Republican voters with at least 20%. Obama wins GA too? It’ll be a crime to be a Republican if that happens for sure. Hmm, you might want to get prepared.
Now combine all of this with Democratic registration numbers increasing at a 4-1 rate over the Republicans in all battleground and current Red states. McCain might get 30% of the vote when this is over. It doesn’t look good for McCain at all, my friends.
THIS WILL BE A LANDSLIDE. That’s a fact.

It’s a political fight. Let the spit fly as it may. Step back and look at the bigger picture today. Along with that , the big announcement is that WestCoastMessenger has decided to jettison his soft backing of Obama (based on the hope that we would have a Democrat selecting Supreme Court judges) in favor of a more grittier, reform-minded McCain, to lead us out of the economic morass. Protect Social Security, engage in a massive reform of runaway spending, and make sure that there is a golden receptacle available in the $700 billion bailout so that McCain can pull the plug on this worthless zombie as soon as possible after he steps into office.

McCain, who has voted consistently for deregulation, started off two weeks ago declaring the U.S. economy fundamentally sound but ended the week sounding like a populist. Who is he really?
He tends to shoot from the hip and go on gut instinct. The nation cannot go through four more years of literally and figuratively shooting now and asking questions later.
But the fact is, I worry he won’t have four years. If elected, at 72, he would be the oldest incoming president in U.S. history. He’s in good health now, we’re told, although he has withheld most of his medical records. That means Gov. Sarah Palin could very well become president.
And that brings us to McCain’s most troubling trait: his judgment.
While praiseworthy for putting the first woman on a major-party presidential ticket since Geraldine Ferraro in 1984, his selection of Palin as a running mate was appalling. The first-term governor is clearly not experienced enough to serve as vice president or president if required. Her lack of knowledge is being covered up by keeping her away from questioning reporters and doing interviews only with those considered friendly to her views.

“I didn’t decide to run for president to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president… In truth, I’d had the ambition for a long time.”
- John McCain, “Worth Fighting For”, 2002

The problem with WestCoastMessenger’s announcement (as with those of John McCain) is that it flies in the face of his record. Just as we can google John McCain and see that his voting record and previous statements contradict many of his current assertions, so too can we google WestCoastMessenger and find post after post of him bashing Obama. “Soft support” indeed…

No wonder McCain gets away with so many lies, he knows his followers are just as bad.

This morning as I was watching George and he asked McCain about Palin, McCain looked like a junior high boy with his first crush. He gushed about her, how likable she is and the excitement she’s brought to the campaign, but never offered any hint of her qualifications. After her disastrous interviews with Charlie and Katie, perhaps she would be better off running for Mrs. America than VP of the US.

It has been widely reported that Obama was using his time between campaigning to bone up for the election, plus he was talking to the boys in DC trying to broker an agreement for the bailout. Wow!
I am sure he was reading Cliff notes on How to Appear Like A Foreign Policy Expert. Oh, but I thought he said that if he got that 3 am call on the red line in the White House, he would wake up his VP to tell him what to do in a international crisis. I feel so much safer now.

Senator Obama is winning the presidency by a significant percentage. The only strategy left for Senator McCain and the Republicans is to continue the “low road”, but take it to the “ultra-low road”. Expect these lies posted here to become more main stream in the battle states.
There is silly stuff out there that is absolute hogwash. Really intelligent people don’t believe this stuff, but some less observant people-which there are many-listen to inflammatory radio, websites or read silly books for non-fact-based information sources and have continued to feed the rumors. We need to call all of this out- each one of us.
Some nasty lies and dirty tricks are:
1) FALSE: Barack wasn’t born in the US and doesn’t have a birth certificate, therefore can’t be president. TRUE: Barack Obama was born in Hawaii and has a valid birth certificate that has been peer reviewed by independent non-partison groups and posted on many websites. No informed, intelligent person believes this rumor, but it continues
2) FALSE: Barack is a muslim. TRUE: Barack is NOT a muslim. Barack and his family, and grandparents have been Christians for decades. No informed, intelligent person believes this rumor, but it continues.
3) FALSE: Obama is part of and befriended radical Weather Underground TERRORISTS, and Bill Ayers. TRUE: Barack was 8 yrs old when this group and person was a terrorist. This is silly stuff. Ayers later became a professor and contributed to an education non-profit that Barack as a civil rights lawyer and constitutional professor provided assistence. They didn’t work together at all for the same projects. The documents have been made public to the press. No informed, intelligent person believes this rumor, but it continues.
3. FALSE: Barack has people on his staff who worked for or were lobbyists for FANNIE MAE/FREDDIE MAC. TRUE: Barack has noone working on his staff that fits this. However, Senator McCain has many people including Davis (Campaign Manager) that received major funding from FANNIE MAE/FREDDIE MAC over the last year and continued funding in the case of Davis’ own company even last month directly from the McCain campaign. This scandel broke open last week to a much higher degree.
4. Of course there will be many more rumors that are blown out of proportion. And make sure you look for those that paint Barack as being “elite” or “exotic” or code words for “other” or “race”. The ultra-low road will be a road that takes the American people to an uglier place than it is now. Please watch and defend.

George W. Bush’s criticism of John McCain, his primaries opponent in 2000: “He’s the Washington insider.”
And that was true. So Bush won the nomination.
And now we should believe in McCain’s status as a “maverick”?
BTW after losing the nomination to Bush in 2000, McCain stated in an interview that he would support Bush’s re-election in 2004, and that by 2008 he would be ready for a retirement home and therefore not be running for President again.

It is real interesting how some republicans are trying to justify why McCain would not look or talk directly to Obama. You don’t have a clue why he did it, so stop trying to act as if you know what is going on. McCain is insulted that he must go through an election for something he obviously thinks he deserves because he is a POW. He has been using that all his life. This is too important of a job. We need to judge him one his merits NOW. And they have not been very good.

In the Rasmussen Reports daily tracker, Barack Obama maintained his 6 point lead and 50% number in today’s poll. Obama leads John McCain 50% to 44%.
In the Gallup daily, Obama had nice movement and now leads McCain 50% to 42%. That is a gain of 1 for Obama and a drop of 2 for McCain since yesterday.
The full impact of the debate and its aftermath will not be reflected in the tracking data until Tuesday’s report, which will be based on interviewing conducted Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Still, Gallup’s one-day read on the standing of the two candidates on Saturday suggests that Obama held the lead over McCain among registered voters that night, just as he had for the two previous nights.
In the Research 2000 tracker, Obama jumped to a 50% to 43% lead, up 1 while McCain fell one.
Yesterday’s polling, the first after the debate, was the strongest Obama day picked up by the R2K tracking poll. He led 51-42, and therefore, Obama had a +9 on Sa to go with +5 Th, +7 Fri (MoE +/- 5.1 for individual days.) Sarah Palin’s fav/unfav are now -10 (40/50), and Obama is +27 (his improvement is via dropping his unfav to 32.)
What’s it mean? It means Obama is polling very strongly right now, we will more than likely see some good state polls in Battlegrounds appear next week for Obama and we will also likely see a major negative shift in the McCain campaign.
The overall problem for McCain — they now likely will go very negative, but the big part of the undecided clip of voters are independent voters, and for the most part, independent voters have disdain for negative campaigning.

My prediction for October surprises are:
1. McCain health records will be exposed creating uncertainty in his presidential bid
2. Problems with McCains statements, he will contradict himself every 5 minutes and will not understand the ramifications of any financial matters…… he will continue to ‘shoot from the hip’, gamble and undermine his own efforts by an ever increasing ‘sleazy’ political ad campaign.
3. Federal Investigations will reveal that McCain staff are tampering with Alaskan justice officials and witnesses, and Palin’s ‘troopergate’ will reach new lows. Ted Steven’s trail will pour gasoline on a smoldering fire.
Mission Accomplished

To help their sagging fortunes, now McCain’s people want Bristol married off before November 4th like a soap opera plotline. Just when absurd was the correct description. I expect her to use her family again in the debate, as she did in the October 2, 2006 Alaskan gubernatorial debate. In this case, she used her family in a dispute about a local issue involving racial heritage.
“Palin, a member of the Alaska Outdoor Council and a (nearly) lifetime resident of the predominantly white and right-wing Mat-Su Valley, has been touting the Nativeness of her husband (a whopping 1/8th Yupik) and that of her children (a staggering 1/16th) as a campaign issue.” – Kodiak Konfidential

Bush, McCain can run. But they cant hide anymore.
What ever congress does to try and fix our stunning economic catastrophe needs to be done very carefully. Congress needs to take their time, and be sure of what they are doing. Whatever is done needs to be sharply focused at helping, and protecting the best interest of the ordinary Americans. In particular the vast American middle class. 700 billion dollars is a lot of the peoples money to spend to bail out a bunch of corrupt Bush loan sharks.
When have you ever known any government plan, or project to only cost what the government said it would. Remember the war in Iraq. Bush and his so-called advisers said it would only cost you about 80 billion dollars. But we now know that the war in Iraq will cost you, and your children, and your grand children over a trillion dollars, and still counting.
So if 80 billion can end up costing you over a trillion dollars. How much could 700 billion end up costing you. Any math wizards out there. I come up with 9 trillion…:-(
My fellow human beings, just as I warned you ahead of this catastrophic economic meltdown, I must now warn you that what is ahead has the potential to be even more catastrophic than what we are going through now. The worlds geopolitical landscape has been booby trapped by the Bush McCain administration and their republican allies in congress. These booby traps are poised to spring at any time.
Fortunately the Worlds Nations have been blessed with many excellent leaders (except the US) who have been careful, wise, strong, and self-restrained in dealing with the provocations, and antagonism’s of the Bush, McCain administration.
Barack Obama and the democrats are your best hope now. Tell your family, friends, and everyone you know to support them as best you can, and vote for them like your life, and the lives of your loved ones depends on it. Because it does. You will not survive 4 more years of Bush McCain.

Obama debate as a scholar, laying out what they have in common and what the difference are.
McCain debate as a street fighter, trying to knockdown the opponent.
Nothing wrong with that, just a difference in debating style. The people seems to favor Obama’s style.
And by the way, look at the polls, the people have enough of the stupid tactics being played by the republicans.

McCain’s only hope is a double standard. Palin is the only star that I have heard of who can say nothing and even when she speaks the listener is responsible to understand when she means something other than what she says. They think voters are fools.

Posted by: PaulStewart9 | September 28, 2008, 6:26 pm 6:26 pm

McCain says that Obama “doesn’t understand.” Palin can better put together a coherent sentence during a softball interview from Katie Couric of all people.
McCain refers to Obama’s “Chicago style politics” but the last I checked, Obama wasn’t being investigated for abuse of power in office…and just today there are reports that Palin received gifts from lobbyist and used her position as mayor to sell her house.
McCain says that Obama is “naive.” Just a week ago, 5 secretary of states urged the US to engage in diplomacy with Iran without preconditions because the current strategy isn’t working.
McCain says that Obama doesn’t understand the difference between tactics and strategies…this is just odd. McCain’s campaign has been nothing but continuous tactics to get on top of the news cycle, whereas Obama seems to have a long term strategy for his campaign–so it is McCain, not Obama that doesn’t understand the difference.
McCain’s campaign slogan was that national security experience matters, that is, until he picks an Alaska governor who just started thinking about Iraq, Afghanistan, and Russia yesterday.

Now former House speaker Newt Ginrich is criticizing the effort to save the American economy from the quagmire that his, President Bush and Senator McCain’s support of International Corporatism has placed America. These International corporatists, much like their cousins International Communists have sought to have all of the wealth and resources of the world controlled by international cartels. They have viewed the role of the US government instead of providing for the general welfare of the country to be to provide for the feed and caring of these corporate cartels. Their goal is the complete destruction of the middle class in this country. They want international low cost workers where these cartels will have the same cheap labor through out the world, no worker nor environmental protection and minimal worker benefits, if any. In the case and point of the United States, their goal is to see no difference between the Mexican and the American worker. They don’t believe in maintaining any infrastructure, hence their demagoguery of any infrastructure expenditures as pork barrel spending. They believe the American worker should be kept uneducated, hence are grandchildren and great grandchildren are now less educated by the public schools than we were. That some of these corporatists, such as presidential candidate McCain want to label themselves as populists is laughable. You look into the eyes of Senator McCain and you see the soul of Comrade Nikita Khrushchev. At the next debate, don’t be surprised if the reckless, irresponsible, and uncontrollable John McCain starts banging his shoe on the podium.

Reasons Why I can’t vote for Obama.
Health care:
More services means more taxes, more taxes means a greater disparity between those with money and those without (tax loop holes allow the richest Americans to pay the smallest percentages).
Foreign Policy:
Leaving Iraq because misinformed voters think it is the right thing to do is a bad choice. Going into this war was a bad choice, but as with any fight its a bad idea to start one and try to walk away, usually you get kicked in the ass harder.
Domestic Policy:
More is not better, especially when the only thing we are going to have more of is government. The free market needs no governmental interference, regulations don’t stop violations, consumer dollars do though. More government (THANKS CLINTON ERA DEMOCRATS) gave us Fannie may and Freddie mac the leaders in the sub-prime mortgage crisis and attributed greatly to our current economic situation.
Religion:
Wright is a bigot, and Obama listened to him for many years but was only offended the year of the election? Sounds like his religion is like his smile, superficial.
Appeasement is not the solution to life’s problems. Obama and Kerry have a lot in common, they change their mind and position with pop culture not fact.

To Debra:
McCain had his shoulder socket ripped out in Vietnam.
McCain has no shoulder socket on his left arm.
McCain has mangled arms that he can’t reach up to comb his hair.
McCain can’t turn and look at Obama the way the lecturns are placed.
McCain suffered greviously. He had his arms hung from the ceiling and tied with rope so hard behind his back they would snap. McCain had his arms broken repeatedly.
McCain had his teeth knocked out that is why he has that terrible smile.
The left has taken advantage of McCain’s war wounds.
It is uncomfortable for McCain to turn standing up. He has no shoulder socket in his left arm.
The thing that upsets me most about this election is McCain losing votes because of the left taking advantage of his war injuries.
I guess the lesson is if you want to be president never serve in uniform because your opponents will take advantage of your posture.
McCain’s arms are wooden. They have non flexibility in them.
This election is painful how much McCain has been savaged.
I wish McCain wouldn’t have run because to watch his opponents take advantage of his war injuries is too much.

To Debra:
McCain can’t look at Obama because he has no shoulder socket and his arms are mangled.
The lecturns were placed in a position where it is impossible for McCain to turn with his war injuries.
McCain has no shoulder socket and his arms are stiff and mangled. McCain’s arms have no flexibility and he can’t lift them up.
To say your not voting for McCain because of his war injuries is what makes this election so unamerican.
Never before has a veteran been punished for his war injuries like the american electorate has punished mccain.
He can’t turn and look at Obama because he has no shoulder socket and he has mangled arms.
Enough of this election.
The american people can only beat up on McCain for 37 more days.
McCain needs to drop out. There is no honor having the american people rip you apart for your disabilities suffered for the defense of this country.
This is not the same country McCain defended.
This country now loves to savage McCain for his war injuries.
He can’t turn because he has no shoulder socket and he has mangled arms.
I am so tired of the american people taking advantage of his war injuries.
So many people in america are ungrateful and never served and use his war injuries against him.
This election has shown without a doubt the evilness of this country.
To say you won’t vote for McCain because of his physical disabilities is eevil.

To suggest that McCain couldn’t look at Obama because he has no shoulder sockets is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Why isn’t he forever bumping into things?
This is not the first debate he has had infront of a lectern, and he has looked at other people.
I don’t think you should be making excuses for him for bad manners.
Haven’t you all overplayed the P.O.W. card, it’s the reason and explanation for everything.

Jeff, McCain seems to have no problems “repositioning” his body or turning his head left and right”. His arms have NOTHING to do with with McCain’s REFUSAL to acknowledge Senator Obama’s presence on the stage. McCain was trying to show what HE THINKS IS HIS SUPERIORITY OVER SENATOR OBAMA. Instead, he looked like an angry, condescending, old man. Ever hear or read the “ODIUM”, “NEVER TRUST A MAN WHO DOES NOT LOOK YOU IN THE EYE”?? If not, I have quoted it for you. I use it in my personal life and working life as well and find it to be very TRUE! Believe it!! McCain is a LIAR and is EXTREMELY DISHONEST. Have you also seen and read the “IDIOM”, “ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS”? This is also very TRUE! Believe it!!

Palin is doing just fine…we will see on Thursday just what Biden is against.
She is not running for president; seems we have forgotten that.

John McCain is a military hero. Well, is a military person. Make that, John McCain likes WAR. Remember when he sang “BOMB, BOMB, IRAN…” and chuckled because he was so pleased with himself. McCain is NOT made to be a President. He is driven by BOMBING and SLASHING. His foreign policy is driven by a war mentality. His domestic policies focus on the wealthy. ENOUGH WITH THE MENTALITY OF WAR MONGERING! Barak Obama has the intellect, good critical thinking skills, and patient wisdom to take this nation to higher ground on the world stage. McCain voted for the war in Iraq as a means to squelch that country’s weapons of mass destruction and to kill the terrorists. He was wrong on both accounts – no WMDs, none of the terroists were from Iraq (most were from Saudi Arabia). The United States has destroyed Iraq using the precious life blood of our young people. Thousands have lost their lives. Many thousand more have returned home maimed. U.S. troops led by their superiors are responsible for killing thousands of innocent Iraqi’s. The U.S. rationalized going into that country as a humane/democratic thing to do. We have been responsible for far more deaths than Sadam Hussein was. The war has cost our country alone upward of a trillion dollars, and no doubt by the time we have taken care (if that is possible) of all the destruction, it will be most likely at least THREE trillion dollars. McCain acts like staying and “WINNING” is possible. WINNING WHAT? The resentment and disrepect of nations around the world for the MCCAIN supported terrorism on IRAQ? McCain’s idea of patriotism and winning are based on his love of war games and winning them. My idea of patriotism is upholding the sacred ideas of our Constitution. Barak Obama is thoroughly knowledgeable of the law and the Constitution having taught Constitutional Law. In my estimate, Obama is the real patriot, the real American hero for standing against that war. He has what is needed to be President.

I think this hypocrisy goes a little farther than standard issue.
If you want to find embarrassing things that the Vice Presidential candidates said, you can probably find a few in the millions of hours of blabbing that Biden done.
Or you can find more in the 20 minutes of interviews from Sarah Palin.
It takes astounding hypocrisy to defend Palin as anything more than a Hail Mary pass.
The thing about Hail Mary passes; they rarely work.

if you can rember the media coverage of the bombing of bagdad, did you wonder as i did how terrified those poor citizens were at that time? i thought” who is the biggest terriorest in the world now? we had no reason, other than the burring bush’s need for a distraction. it wasn’t about oil( all the oil in iraq is going to china) it was to take your eye off of 911.afganistan is where the battle should be joined. there,as you know are NOweapons of mass destruction, but there ARE 1,000,000,000 dead iraqi. what does that mean? george bush has bequethed us a legacy. a legacy of continuing hate and antimosity from the familys of 1,000,000,000 dead iraqis how would you react if it was your family, if it was your contry, and someone decided to just come in and start killing?

Holiday Bombings Kill 27 in Baghdad
5 bomb attacks struck Baghdad on Sunday, three of them aimed at civilians who were out holiday shopping and strolling. Security sources said at least 27 people had been killed and 84 wounded.
The bombings reinforced fears among a growing number of residents that the security situation in Baghdad was deteriorating.

Didn’t Palin say something in a speech about not saying one thing in one part of the country and something else in another part of the country? I think she does….as go the Pakistan comments…..shees!

Instead of addressing the key foreign policy challenges of our time – a resurgent Russia, China rising, North Korea and Iran increasingly belligerent, wars on two fronts, and an increasingly worried Israel….All McCain was saying was to stay the course with the same approach we have taken over the last eight years, an approach that has NOT WORKED. SO to me, the two positions are very clear…do we stay the course, and quite likely risk war on another front, or do we try something different. On Foreign policy the choice is really that simple.

So McCain’s injuries from crashing his plane and being tortured by the North Vietnames makes him a hero? Why?
And, pathetic as his present physical injuries are, the wounding of his psyche that inevitably accompanies physical wounding, on top of the arrogant upper-class prig personality he took into the service, would hardly add up to qualifications for office. Consider the ill-tempered, irratic, impulsive behavior witnessed and documented about McCain. Assaulting coworkers when he disagrees with them, calling his wife filthy names in public. We don’t need a warped, messed-up person for president.

All McCain kept ranting on was his record in countries that were in a mess in the 80s’ and 90s’ after the collapse of the Soviet Union. I know you want to assure us you’re experienced, but McCain, you didn’t say much on WHAT EXACTLY you will do, nor did you show how you would be different from Bush. You did not seem to give a thought to the fact that our world standing has plunged because of the Iraq fiasco (although it’s slightly less of a fiasco right now), and lots of people worldwide see America as a war-mongering country that has no respect for international law (we invaded Iraq against the UN Security Council Resolution) and a big bully.
People are not going to join some league of democracies or whatever. We already have the United Nations- and we need to include those hostile countries in the UN so we have some means of engaging them. A league of democracies could very well start another Allied vs. Axis sort of Cold War, this time with the US and Russia on opposing side, as seen from the rise of China and Russia.
The last thing we need is a polarized world.

Senator McCain past actually impairs him from to be flexible and confront the future with open mind. .Senator Obama foreign policy is moderate but also smart. That helps to keep our friends near, and or foes nearer! The last days of the campaign confirmed that McCain -Plain are the most inadequate people to run this country.
Now we know that not only Obama can lead, but also he had a plan for the future of this great country!
Now McCain can snooze tight. Obama can answer the 03.00 am call any time!

Thank God for George W. Bush-yes is said it-he is and was the right man to teach us the error of our way. It is unfortunate that all Americans have to suffer for the choice we made in 2004, but it gives me great joy to know the the same people who choose Bush over Kerry is doing even worse than I. I am even hoping John McCain win this time so by the time he is done with us Americans, we won’t be able to think, so when we do finally get the right man to rule we would learn a appreciate a good leadder instead of a JOKE like BUSh and JOHN.

I think it’s important that we all be able to admit when our candidates make a mistake, and John McCain made one here. I actually think the Biden Coal ad needs to come down. Sauce for the goose, you know.
That being said, I still think McCain is the superior candidate. He still gets my vote in November. But when you’re wrong, you’re wrong.

McCain is showing more and more he is naive regarding the media….In this day and age you need be media-savvy…Attacking the press as biased simply brings more bad press…particularly, when McCain and his running mate have given plenty for the media to report…McCain is simply erratic…and it shows..His running mate is out of her league….and it shows as well…

And now this from the guy who today is accusing Obama of not telling the truth about his voting record. McCain didn’t even bother to show up to vote on the bills he’s talking about. McCain has the worst attendance record of any senator, worse even than the guy from South Dakota who suffered a stroke this year.
McCain really has to think the voting public is a bunch of fools to believe him when he says Obama isn’t telling the truth – after all the lies he’s been telling. I suppose he figures he’s been getting away with it so far.

Obama looked like the five year old. He interrpted, raised his finger, made faces and in general was a sideshow. He agreed with John 9 times! McCain never interruped never raised his hand and kept to himself. People want a president-in-training are just like chirs Matthews, they get a “tingle” up their legs, man-love. actually Obama is Michelle’s third kid. I think an unqualified obma for president is dangerous, who will be actually running the government? one of his minions? Obama is lazy and has no experience except as a community organizer causing trouble and ripping off the Government. But his got ACORN and they will get thousands of ballots and fill them as usual.
