Lindsay Lohan: Palin ‘Distracting from the Real Issues’

For anyone worried that the Republican convention didn’t have a celebrity twist….

You can now add Lindsay Lohan’s name to the list of bloggers moved to share their thoughts on  reports that surfaced yesterday that Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s teenage daughter is pregnant.

The erstwhile tween queen-cum-paparazzi target posted to her MySpace blog this morning decrying  Palin’s daughter’s pregnancy as ‘distracting from the real issues, the real everyday problems that this country experiences."

Writes Lohan, "I am concerned with the fact that Sarah Palin brought the attention to her daughter’s pregnancy, rather than all world issues and what she believes she could possibly do to change them-if elected." On that note, the actress invites Palin to take cues from her Democratic rival, ‘Maybe focus on delivering some words and policy with stronger impact like Joe Biden."

(The AP confirmed with Lohan’s publicist that the blog was written by the star herself.)

Uh, anyone tell Ms Lohan that it was the press speculating about all this that caused the fervor.

Lindsay who-disfunctional at best.

Sarah Palin tried to fire the town librarian because she wouldn’t ban the books Sarah wanted her to. Sarah Palin is an arrogant right wing nut job.

Rick Davis said that this election will not be about issues but about getting to know the candidates.
Well we are learning about Sarah Palin and her husband’s being a former member of AIP thus hates America.

First, an article about a rapper and now, an article about a nut case celeb. If ABC isn’t trying to become the Enquirer, what’s it trying to do?

She is really showing her ignorance again. The ones making a big deal out of this are the talking heads on TV and the print head hunters who only want to sell ink. This is not a story. It happens every day and it happened to one of my daughters. People let this go.

I hear she’s drinking again, she really should wait to blog when she’s sober and then keep it on her level, maybe talk about shopping or wrecking cars, politics are above her pay grade.

Even more wonderful, reverse is actually true. This is actually getting the tabloids to cover the presidential race. Congratulations Sarah Palin! Way to reach the masses!

First Madonna, then P. Diddy, and now Lindsay. Who’s next Britney? If this little idiot was sober enough to know what was going on about her in the country, she would know that the Palin family released the information because of the rumors that the baby the daughter was carrying around was actually HER baby and not her little sister. With the drugs and the drunk driving that Lindsay has been involved with, she is lucky her mind isn’t totally fried or that she six feet under somewhere from an overdose or car wreck. I guess maybe the police department isn’t talking about her and her girlfriend in their press conferences this week and she’s feeling left out.
You would think, eventually, that the Obama campaign would ask these idiots to refrain from making comments on behalf of his Presidential bid. It really does him no good.

The Palin pick says alot about McCain, and not much of it good, I’m afraid. Firstly, he wanted Lieberman as VP, but wouldn’t stand up to the extreme religious right to get what he wanted. Where’s the courage and character in that? Second, if he’s really about ‘country first’, how could he risk putting the country in the hands of a small-town mayor from Alaska that just got her passport last year and needs to go to a foreign-policy ‘boot camp’? He put the country second, and political expediency first – that says it all about McCain, doesnt it? Lastly, even when he decided to pick Palin, he didn’t bother to take the time to find out if she has the judgement and character required for the job. Now we find she supports abstinence-only education while her teenage daughter’s pregnant, she raised funds for the incredibly corrupt Ted Stevens, she was for the bridge to nowhere before she was against it, she thinks US troops should only be sent on missions from God, he was part of an organisation that supports Alaska seceding from the USA, that she pressured for a state trooper to be fired because of a family vendetta. It’s just horrifying, really. Says it all about McCain.

Oh, please. Since when was what Lohan had to say about politics worthwhile for a journalist to report on?
She doesn’t even understand why Palin came out with the pregnancy information. Her lack of knowledge on the subject is painfully aparant as is that of abcnews for even considering publishing this, (let alone actually publishing it).
I only check abc news out of curiosity. Definitely not for the journalistic information and unbiased articles.
Jeez.

that’s the American way.

Lindsay Lohan has no business criticizing anyone. She has zero credibility because of her own behavior.
Hey, Lindz: Clean up your own house before you go after someone else. You are just proving what a fool you truly are, as if your behavior wasn’t proof enough already. Quit while you’re ahead!

Lindsay Lohan, seriously. She can say whatever she wants but everyone knows she is trash. She is white trash. Why would any respectable journalist report this. She doesnt have the brain God gave a pea. She didnt even know Joe Biden before the Dem Convention. The fact that she mentioned him means she is creditable. Please, tell her to crawl back to the trailor park.

Lindsay–nobody will EVER take you seriously until you grow up and become more than another dismal excuse for what passes as “stardom” these days.
I am sorry to be so harsh—but the ONLY reason most people have heard of you is because of your substance abuse and crazy family antics……
and really…… most Americans are more interested in the world than what goes on in Hollywood.
Expand your horizons,Lindsay and maybe then you’ll be more respected than known just as the butt of jokes.

Lohan is a moron, and who cares what her political views are anyway?
Not that I’m for or against Palin, but announcing her daughter’s pregnancy was sort of valid and necessary due to the rumors that were flying – and would fly once the truth was known (at some point, it would have become obvious the girl was with child).
I fail to see how Palin getting this info out of the way now so she can focus on the “real issues” takes anything at all away from the political process. Lohan is just as brain dead as I always assumed her to be.

Whether women or men are working or not, teachers always remind us to read to our children every night, have as many family dinner as possible during the week, etc. Do you think either Palin or her husband has had time to read or have dinner with their children? For the last few days, all you can see is her teenage daughter Bristol holding the baby. Why should Bristol be the baby’s mother for Palin? Where is her husband? Did you see him holding and taking care of these children? Are their children at-risk?

Did I just read this correctly? Lindsay Lohan thinks that Mrs. Palin’s daughter’s announcement about being pregnant takes away from the issues at hand?
So, some comments on this one:
1. The announcement was necessary to tend to the “elephant in the room” meaning Palin’s 17-year old daughter’s growing mid-section. By getting it out there early, the press doesn’t have any “this just in” news items to discuss. She’s not trying to create a media storm with her daughter to distract from the issues – she’s simply getting this out of the way so that she can focus on those issues. Even Obama made a statement to leave it alone. Oh, by the way Lohan, the press that are making this mole hill into a mountain are the same press that feel that following you around to see how sloppy drunk you can get or what naked part of your anatomy you expose is important news. Taste, as they say, is a matter of opinion and opinions are like…well, you know the rest.
2. For goodness sakes folks…it’s LINDSAY LOHAN making a comment! While she has, in the past, shown herself to have comedic talent on TV & the movies, she’s not exactly well known for making good decisions in her personal life. Why would I want to listen to the opinions of someone with her record? She’s entitled to her opinions and can certainly present them via the internet. But let’s remember that we aren’t exactly talking about an intellectual dynamo here. Or, since I’ve heard that she is intelligent, the idle ramblings of a smart person who has made such poor personal choices really doesn’t hold much weight for me.
3. I hate the fact that a celebrity gets so much press for making a statement like this one. Her personal opinion is pasted onto a website like abcnews.go.com because she’s…what? A political powerhouse? Knowledgeable PoliSci major with extensive education in that field? Published author regarding the make-up of National and Global issues?
Nope, she brought back that funny car from Disney and then watched her career spiral away.
What’s next? Warren Buffet getting criticized by Gary Coleman? (Sorry about that, Mr. Coleman)
Ugh, we (society) really need to get our priorities straight regarding who we listen to, who we give press to and why.
(jumping off the soapbox now)

I agree with LIndsay, Palin should bring attention to all world issues. All we know so far is that she thinks Alaska should be a separate country and is close to Russia, and that the Iraq war is god’s plan. But we’ll find out more about what Palin thinks on world issues when she debates Biden on foreign policy . . .

Posted by: Justin K. | September 3, 2008, 1:54 am 1:54 am

nerakami,
Ms Lohan does indeed have the right to create a blog and say basically whatever she wants; as you point out, this is a part of her free speech rights under the First Amendment. However, you go badly astray with your assertion that her thoughts have “the same validity and worth as yours or mine…”
I can’t possibly speak for you, but there is ample evidence in the records that her thoughts have a great deal less validity than mine. I resent this silly comparison, although I will grant you that in this new Age of Ignorance many people feel as you do. However, there is absolutely no basis for that position. This is the same as claiming that the thoughts and ideas of someone with an IQ of 45 regarding, say, foreign policy are as valid and worthwhile as someone in the diplomatic service for years who has an IQ of 185. While the thoughts and ideas of the person with the lower IQ are certainly valid and worthwhile to THAT individual, they do not in any way carry the same overall validity and worth as those of the person with tne higher IQ and the wealth of experience.
While I do not consider myself an elitist I do believe that, if someone has to drive the bus, should it not be the most qualified? Should we not have the most talented and experienced at the helm, or would we be better off with just anybody steering? I believe the answers to these questions are self evident; if that makes me an elitist, I do not apologize.
However, as previously noted, I do take exception to being categorized as the social or intellectual equal of someone whose major demonstrated talents to date involve the uncontrolled use of various drugs, and the habit of being photographed with various body parts normally considered taboo fully exposed to public view.

Biden was the REAL desperation pick. Yes, that’s desperation when Biden’s son Beau is falsely imprisoning a disabled gay man fighting cancer in order to undo Obama’s little sodomite problems. Too bad Sinclair’s going to sue the Delaware Attorney General and really really really expose this whole salacious mess. He’s received numerous death threats, so has his mother, and he made his video as a life insurance policy because 2 of Obama’s gay lovers from his church, Bland and Young WERE murdered.

The pregnancy of Bristol Palin brings forth an array of issues. To start with, it’s nice that Bristol will keep the baby and supposedly marry the father. But consider this for a second, there would be some pregnant teens who would NOT want to go forward with the pregnancy. Sarah, what do you say to those teens? Put them in jails after you become VP as you and McCain will likely over-turn Row V Wade? What about the fact that other religions, like Islam, preaches that you bear child only if you can afford to take full care of them. So abortion, in this context, is fully vetted by the newest of biblical religion. What about the fact that, my wife being a very protective parent, does not want me to buy a handgun? She is afraid that it might fall in their hands at the wrong time in their life and they might act stupid. What about the fact that a father myself, I would want my daughter to be safe and practice safety before anything in life. Abstinence will definitely be taught and strongly urged, but in those “what if” moment, will I be able to excuse myself if my daughter is in the same situation as Bristol? What if Bristol became HIV positive after having sex with the other teen? Could you have excused yourself, Sarah?

Posted by: Guy From LA | September 3, 2008, 1:27 pm 1:27 pm

Liberals are finding themselves critical of Sarah…. a woman’s choice to raise children and earn a living, calling it bad parenting. Maybe it is because the Dem’s have no one like Sarah. Has anybody ever asked Barack Obama can he bring up his two kids and be president of the United States? If Sarah was a dem none of this would be an issue. Where are the Feminist? You can not have it both ways. Where are the Feminist? Stop the sexism. The dem’s and the his media can’t even follow Obama message so how can he lead.

That’s right, Lyndsey. Try and make someone else look bad so the media will stop focusing on you for two minutes. Whether or not Sarah Palin is pregnant says nothing about whether or not her mother is qualified to be our next VP. You’ve got a lot to learn, Ms. Lohan.
