McCain, Obama ‘Confident’ That Bail Out Deal Will Be Made
ABC News’ Julia Hoppock reports: Presidential rivals Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) and Sen. Barack Obama (D-Il.) both expressed confidence tonight that the an agreement on the $700 billion financial bailout bill would be made despite growing concerns that the deal could fall through.
Obama and McCain met with President Bush and top Congressional leaders in an emergency meeting earlier today to address the financial crisis, but did not emerge with a finalized agreement. ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos reported that Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson feared the deal may collapse.
I an interview with ABC News’ Charlie Gibson, McCain repeatedly said he was ‘confident’ that Congress and the President would come to an agreement on legislation soon. (Read the full interview transcript HERE.)
"I am confident we’ll have an agreement. We have to," McCain told Gibson.
Obama told Gibson that there was a sense in Congress "that we could move forward," but suggested that House Republicans were holding up an agreement on this legislation and urged for fast action.
"The House Republicans stated that they recognized the urgency but they are just not clear that they buy this approach," Obama told Gibson. "So the question I asked was do we need to start from scratch or are there ways to incorporate some of their concerns." (Read the full interview transcript HERE.)
McCain said there were lingering concerns among members in his party regarding provisions that called for modifying mortgages for homeowners at risk of foreclosure, but added that other concerns "had already been satisfied."
McCain made waves in the political world when he announced Wednesday that he would “suspend" his presidential campaign and suggested delaying the first presidential debate to take place in Mississippi on Friday, to deal with the financial crisis. Aides to McCain have said that the Arizona Senator would not attend the debate unless a deal had been put in place, Stephanopoulos reported. But McCain told Gibson that he thought he might be able to attend the debate.
"I believe it’s very possible we can get an agreement so that in time for me to fly to Mississippi," McCain told Gibson. "But I also wish that Senator Obama agreed to the ten or more town hall meetings that I had asked him to attend with me. Wouldn’t be quite that much urgency surrounding these debates if he had agreed to do that, instead he refused."
Obama said that he hoped McCain would come to the debate and felt that it was important that both candidates address the concerns of the American people in that forum.
"Either John McCain or I are going to be in charge of this mess in four months and I think that it is critical for the American people, in a time where they’ve got enormous questions to ask, what exactly you think needs to happen, what is your long-term vision on critical issues….So there are a host of issues that I think need to be presented to the American people. I think that the debates can do that, my hope is that it goes forward."

So Obama passed on the town hall meetings- that’s become McCain’s get out of jail free card for everything? Pathetic.

Why is it every time John McCain does something vile he blames Obama not doing town hall meetings with him.
What I’ve taken away from this little episode is that John McCain is willing to put the United States economy in jeopardy for a photo-op when the political winds don’t blow his way. To my mind, that’s traitorous.

And where’s McCain now as senators and aides are working on a deal as we speak?
At home. One of his seven homes, his condo in Arlington, Va.
The pool report: McCain left ABC at 5:46 pm after speaking to all the nets inside. He arrived at his residence at 5:57 pm.
That’s not a work ethic you can believe in.
He’s such a leader that he’ll work around the clock to get this problem solved, unless he has to stay at the office later than 5:30.

McCain the cynic.
He basically blew up the negotiations, and now he is at home, enjoying the success of the campaign’s distraction from Rick Davis’s lobbyist firm scandal and Palin’s horrendously empty headed interview with Katie Couric.
He’s no second Bush. He’s worse.

What is amazing me is Bills mouth. It’s all over the place how he is sticking up for McCain. It is obvious he is trying to derail Obamas campaign.
With Hillary, I made excuses for him but now, I think it is obvious Bill has an agenda and it isn’t for the democrats or the republicans. It is all about his own ego.
I couldn’t think of anywhere else to post this!

The irony, if you can call it that, is that McCain stunt may get him some press, but it makes the possibility of a deal in the short term increasingly unlikely.
The fact that the GOP would walk into the meeting with the president, after a day of bipartisan progress, with an entirely new, campaign-ready “conservative alternative” proves that this was a political stunt.
It may be smart, it may be savvy, but it surely is the opposite of the “Country First” argument McCain has been making these last few months.

Obama has demonstrated throughout that he’s for himself first – only for country when it’s related to him. That’s the hideous politics that he has been playing, but not yet been caught by the majority.

McCain is coming up with every excuse in the book to prevent Palin from having to be critically eximined by the people of the US and almost as many excuses so that he won’t either.

McCain why do you keep insisting about the town hall debates. NO WAY NO HOW is Obama going to have town hall meetings with you.
Release Palin from prison so she could have the priviledge of having town hall meetings with Biden too. You BARELY released her for a few minutes to attend an interview with Ms. Couric on CBS and she did an AWFUL job. WHAT A SHAME MCCAIN!!
Posted by: SHINY | September 25, 2008, 8:07 pm 8:07 pm
The only reason John McCain went to Washington was to delay any deal until well past Friday so he would not have to debate Obama. It is as simple as that and as clear as the nose on your face. He is down in the polls folks, and did this grandstand stunt to try to say how presidential he is and all that crap of his about “Country First” when it is really John McCain first! If he does NOT bebate Obama tomorrow evening John McCain will not only forfeit the debate, but the election as well. His little grandstand stunt is pulling all the Republicans up for reelection down the drain with him! Put a fork into good old John because he is done and finished!

LA Times: Praise For Those Who Caused This Disaster (May 31, 1999)
It’s one of the hidden success stories of the Clinton era. In the great housing boom of the 1990s, black and Latino homeownership has surged to the highest level ever recorded. The number of African Americans owning their own home is now increasing nearly three times as fast as the number of whites; the number of Latino homeowners is growing nearly five times as fast as that of whites.
These numbers are dramatic enough to deserve more detail. When President Clinton took office in 1993, 42% of African Americans and 39% of Latinos owned their own home. By this spring, those figures had jumped to 46.9% of blacks and 46.2% of Latinos.
Under Clinton, bank regulators have breathed the first real life into enforcement of the Community Reinvestment Act, a 20-year-old statute meant to combat “redlining” by requiring banks to serve their low-income communities. The administration also has sent a clear message by stiffening enforcement of the fair housing and fair lending laws. The bottom line: Between 1993 and 1997, home loans grew by 72% to blacks and by 45% to Latinos, far faster than the total growth rate.
Lenders also have opened the door wider to minorities because of new initiatives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–the giant federally chartered corporations that play critical, if obscure, roles in the home finance system. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac buy mortgages from lenders and bundle them into securities; that provides lenders the funds to lend more.
In 1992, Congress mandated that Fannie and Freddie increase their purchases of mortgages for low-income and medium-income borrowers. Operating under that requirement, Fannie Mae, in particular, has been aggressive and creative in stimulating minority gains. It has aimed extensive advertising campaigns at minorities that explain how to buy a home and opened three dozen local offices to encourage lenders to serve these markets. Most importantly, Fannie Mae has agreed to buy more loans with very low down payments–or with mortgage payments that represent an unusually high percentage of a buyer’s income. That’s made banks willing to lend to lower-income families they once might have rejected.

Poor Obama. Bill doesn’t hate McCain and it’s hurting Obama. Boo-hoo. It is frightening how many people think the world is all about Obama.
You want to talk about Rick Davis, but you don’t want to talk about Johnson or Ramekin or the fact that the democrats created this mess (who else would want to house individuals who can’t really afford a house?). At least be honest about your hypocrisy.

McCain is working around the clock…
to come up with ways to distract from Rick Davis and Sarah Palin.
Saw her interview with Couric?
Saw her being the center of a voodoo ritual in her church, where she was blessed by Muthee just after he ranted against ‘the Israelites’?
But distractions or no distractions, the Palin stories keep coming. Here’s a new one:
JUNEAU, Alaska — Sarah Palin felt so strongly about the public corruption indictment of a Republican state senator this summer that she urged him to resign _ but not strongly enough to return the $1,000 he gave to help elect her governor.
The donation from John Cowdery was one of two from Alaska legislators who contributed to Palin’s 2006 campaign weeks after the FBI raided their offices. The sprawling public corruption scandal that followed became a rallying point for candidate Palin, who was swept into office after promising voters she would rid Alaska’s capital of dirty politics.
One of the donors is awaiting trial and Cowdery was indicted in July on two federal bribery counts. Palin, now GOP presidential nominee John McCain’s running mate, has not returned their donations, according to campaign finance disclosures reviewed Thursday.

Senate Majority Leader Reid ccompletely dismissed McCain’s role in the White House meeting, saying that he spoke last, said nothing important and had little to do with the negotiations.
“Anyone in that meeting who tried to understand what John McCain said in that meeting, couldn’t” understand whether he supported the deal, Reid said, according to a clip aired on MSNBC. “He didn’t say anything substantive. … He was the last person to talk in that meeting.”

HEARD ON THE STREETS OF STARKE, FLORIDA, SEPTEMBER 2008
Wherein another dumb citizen expresses amazement at Washington’s ability to call him stupid and convince him they did him a favor.
A great swindle has been perpetrated upon me and my fellow Americans for whom people like John McCain endured so much in defense of our principles. It has to do with how the $4500 suits on Wall street conducted our nation’s business while tricking us into believing they were making “the American dream” available to large numbers of us who, without their help, would never get the chance to participate in that dream. They told us they could handle things to everyone’s benefit. Don’t worry about how you’ll be called upon to pay us back at usury rates in just a couple of years. Don’t worry about the fact that we (the $4500 suits) are running banks that routinely violate sound lending principles (no job, don’t fret, we trust you). So you can’t afford a mortgage now; in a year you can sell the place at a profit, pay us back and do it all over again. And don’t worry about us holding your junk paper (mortgage you can’t pay); we’ll just sell it to Freddy or Fannie and let then worry about it. They’re the government; they’ll cover everything. We’ll have our money and you’ll have a house you can sell some time next year at a profit as the housing market goes ever upward without limit. And don’t worry about bad problems entering our system. Market forces will handle everything. And, for Heaven’s sake, don’t let the government interfere with their (dirty word coming, look away)… regulation. Now, we all know that a regulatory system is currently in place, put there as a result of past Wall Street excesses, but we can get around all that. It’s easy. We just appoint some laissez-faire (that’s French for hands off) types to run the regulatory agencies. When problems come up, we (the $4500 suits) can count on them to do absolutely nothing. They’ll let the Market work. They’ll let Market Forces do their (really our) thing. We appoint (through our surrogate in Washington) guys like Paulson (to Treasury), Cox (to the SEC) and Lockhart ( to FHFA to regulate Freddie and Fannie)…is that Mo, Larry and Curley or The Three Blind Mice? Anyway, these guys could be counted upon to just sit back and fwarb ( that’s my term for FWRB; fiddle while Rome burns ). Notwithstanding that these guys are some of the best fwarbers in Washington, don’t forget: Paulson is one of ours ($4500 suits) and he’ll do the right thing if the going gets rough…like, maybe he could shove a little “liquidity” our way if we need it; maybe even a lot of “liquidity”. And Hank knows how to keep things quiet. He’s been doing that for years. If he has to send a little “liquidity” our way, he’ll keep quiet about what we do with it. And for those of us ($4500 suits) who get burned a little; don’t worry. He’ll slip in a few golden parachutes just like he got after leaving Goldman. And don’t underestimate his ability to mimic his boss, i.e., scare the hell out of everyone. But, I digress. Earlier, I noted that a great swindle has been perpetrated upon me and my fellow Americans for whom people like John McCain endured so much in defense of our principles. That swindle is simply this: that guy, Paulson, is being passed off as a HERO and Cox and Lockhart as smheros. (Smaller, minor heros). Doncha jus luv it ?

I kind of like the assessment that Buchanan just made:
McCain has run from the debate into a burning building. He has two choices:
1. Vote for a bailout and alienate his base by being the father of new American socialism.
2. Vote against a bailout and risk financial meltdown, if it happens, bringing an end to the Republican party.
Knowing McCain he will likely opt for #2.
…..and he did.

McCain Runs And Hides From His Past:
John McCain running from the debate with Barack Obama is unacceptable, and COWARDICE! There are over 350 members of congress to deal with the US economic collapse. And even more capital hill aids, advisers, and experts to deal with the economic catastrophe created by the corrupt Bush McCain presidency and the past republican controlled congress.
Every American, and TRUE! patriot needs to demand that John McCain debate Barack Obama and tell the American people how he is going to fix this economic catastrophe that he (John McCain), Bush, and the past Republican controlled congress created.
Contact the news media. Your local papers. And demand that they hold John McCain accountable to debate Barack Obama. Contact all your friends and ask them to do the same. Call your senators, and congressmen and tell them that you expect “Let Them Eat Cake” John McCain to debate Barack Obama on this economic catastrophe that John McCain and “Let Them Eat Cake” BUSH! created.
It’s time to get ANGRY! America. Tell John McCain you want answers, and you want those answers NOW!
He can run. But he cant hide anymore.
What ever congress does to try and fix our stunning economic catastrophe needs to be done very carefully. Congress needs to take their time, and be sure of what they are doing. Whatever is done needs to be sharply focused at helping, and protecting the best interest of the ordinary Americans. In particular the vast American middle class. 700 billion dollars is a lot of the peoples money to spend to bail out a bunch of corrupt Bush loan sharks.
My fellow human beings, just as I warned you ahead of this catastrophic economic meltdown, I must now warn you that what is a head has the potential to be even more catastrophic than what we are going through now. The worlds geopolitical landscape has been booby trapped by the Bush McCain administration and their republican allies in congress. These booby traps are poised to spring at any time.
Fortunately the Worlds Nations have been blest with many excellent leaders (except the US) who have been careful, wise, strong, and self-restrained in dealing with the provocations, and antagonism’s of the Bush, McCain administration.
Barack Obama and the democrats are your best hope now. Tell your family, friends, and everyone you know to support them as best you can, and vote for them like your life, and the lives of your loved ones depends on it. Because it does. You will not survive 4 more years of Bush McCain.

Its becoming increasingly obvious that the Democrats cooked up these “Principles” and then attempted to railroad them through without real scrutiny. The Republicans simply attempted to offer several alternatives to the plan backed by dozens of top economists. Sensible and reasonable right? Do not rush what is to be in place for months, years, etc. Wrong. Whiny Democrat Barney Frank just HAD to throw a hissy fit. I am a proud “Gay American” so I know a “drama queen” when I see one, and Rep. Frank is a big one. The Dems then throw a false blanket accusation at Sen. John McCain blaming him for the entire hold up. Incredible. Can you say, “Railroad”? Can you say, “Playing Politics”. Barney Frank is attempting to vilify John McCain right out of the Presidency. And Barack, well he just sits back and allows the unfair attack on McCain to happen. Barack has zero guts. Hold steady John! You are doing the right thing! This budget crises is 10X more important than one lousy debate. Barack knows that but wont admit it.

McCain: The Most Reprehensible of the Keating Five
The story of “the Keating Five” has become a scandal rivaling Teapot Dome and Watergate
By Tom Fitzpatrick
Published on November 29, 1989
You’re John McCain, a fallen hero who wanted to become president so desperately that you sold yourself to Charlie Keating, the wealthy con man who bears such an incredible resemblance to The Joker. Obviously, Keating thought you could make it to the White House, too.
He poured $112,000 into your political campaigns. He became your friend. He threw fund raisers in your honor. He even made a sweet shopping-center investment deal for your wife, Cindy. Your father-in-law, Jim Hensley, was cut in on the deal, too.
Nothing was too good for you. Why not? Keating saw you as a prime investment that would pay off in the future.
So he flew you and your family around the country in his private jets. Time after time, he put you up for serene, private vacations at his vast, palatial spa in the Bahamas. All of this was so grand. You were protected from what Thomas Hardy refers to as “the madding crowd.” It was almost as though you were already staying at a presidential retreat.
Like the old song, that now seems “Long ago and far away.”
Since Keating’s collapse, you find yourself doing obscene things to save yourself from the Senate Ethics Committee’s investigation. As a matter of course, you engage in backbiting behavior that will turn you into an outcast in the Senate if you do survive.
They say that if you put five lobsters into a pot and give them a chance to escape, none will be able to do so before you light the fire. Each time a lobster tries to climb over the top, his fellow lobsters will pull him back down. It is the way of lobsters and threatened United States senators.
And, of course, that’s the way it is with the Keating Five. You are all battling to save your own hides. So you, McCain, leak to reporters about who did Keating’s bidding in pressuring federal regulators to change the rules for Lincoln Savings and Loan.
When the reporters fail to print your tips quickly enough–as in the case of your tip on Michigan Senator Donald Riegle–you call them back and remind them how important it is to get that information in the newspapers.
The story of “the Keating Five” has become a scandal rivaling Teapot Dome and Watergate. The outcome will be decided, not in a courtroom, but probably on national television.
Those who survive will be the sociopaths who can tell a lie with the most sincere, straight face. You are especially adept at this.
Last Friday night, on The John McLaughlin Show, which features well-known Washington journalists, the subject of the Keating Five was discussed. Panelist Jack Germond suggested that three of the Keating Five were probably already through in politics.
So you spend your days desperately trying to make sure you will be one of the survivors. You keep volunteering to go on radio and television stations to protest your innocence. Last week you made ABC’s Nightline.
Not long before that you somehow managed to get James Kilpatrick, the national columnist, to write a favorable paragraph about you. Last Sunday morning, you made it to national television again; this time on ABC’s This Week With David Brinkley. You smiled at the panel with your usual studied insouciance. Sitting next to you was Senator John Glenn of Ohio.
Brinkley, Sam Donaldson, and George Will were the interrogators.
It was a sobering scene. There you sat with Glenn, both sweating before the cameras, waiting to answer questions: two badly tarnished American icons.
No one forgets that Glenn was the first American astronaut to orbit the Earth. You won’t let anyone forget that you were a prisoner of war. But you have played that tune too long. By now your constant reminders about your war record make you seem like a modern version of Arthur Miller’s tragic failure Willy Loman.
Clearly, both you and Glenn sold your fame for Charles Keating’s money.
It was a Faustian bargain. It was also a bad joke on the rest of us and a disaster for many old people who lost their life’s savings to Keating.
The money was never really Keating’s to give. But he never would have got his hands on it if you and the rest of the Keating Five didn’t halt the government takeover for two long years while Keating’s people continued their looting.

McCain: The Most Reprehensible of the Keating Five
The story of “the Keating Five” has become a scandal rivaling Teapot Dome and Watergate
By Tom Fitzpatrick
Published on November 29, 1989
You’re John McCain, a fallen hero who wanted to become president so desperately that you sold yourself to Charlie Keating, the wealthy con man who bears such an incredible resemblance to The Joker.Subject(s):
John Mc John McCain, Keating FiveObviously, Keating thought you could make it to the White House, too.
And now, the tab for the Savings and Loan heist must be paid from taxpayer pockets.
On Sunday, Senators Dennis DeConcini, Alan Cranston, and Riegle refused offers to appear on the Brinkley show. What must we make of that?
You, the closest of them to Keating and the deepest in his debt, have chosen the path of the hard sell. You may even make it out of the pot, but to many, your protestations of innocence taste like gall.
You are determined to bluff your way. You will stick to your story that you were acting to help a constituent and intended to do nothing improper. The very fact you attended the meeting makes you guilty, just as every man who entered the Brinks vault went to prison.

Anyone on either side have anything interesting to say?

The biggest lie of the whole presidential campaign so far is McCain’s drama queen announcement that he has suspended his campaign.
The contrary is true, as we on this first day after that announcement.
It’s a sad thing to witness how John McCain, once a hero, has become a cynical liar and political opportunist. Your typical Washington insider.

Limit the bill to only the bailout—put no pork or foo foo into in it—like taking out 20 percent of what is to be paid back to taxpayers and giving it for yet more subprime loans for minorities and the poor………We can’t afford this bill now, why increase government spending and make it worse on we who actually pay our bills and work?
Tighten loan regulations—if your credit score isn’t good, or you can’t really afford a home…………the government does not resecuritize your loan. Taxpayers can’t afford all this charity for Wall street and drug addicts among others.

Do you think a majority, in either party is ready to accept a bailout if most of the money is going to the finance side,
that is the bankers?

How much Bank scandel actually follows McCain? Well, He was investigated and largely exonerated in a political influence scandal of the 1980s as a member of the ‘Keating Five’. His connection to Rick Davis, who imbezzeled money from Fannie Mae, as early as last Month. And one of McCains sons, who was a bank auditor, mysteriously left his job , two months before the bank went bankrupt. Even another Senator from an earlier speech, connected McCain to the scandel in the 1980′s. The ‘Keats five’. McCain has told us, he has been in contact with the Senate, but even the Senators said, they had not spoken to him. He just heard of the plan two days ago. McCain has lost Touch. Being touched by CORUPTION, must make him feel a little numb. If he can still feel at all.
I have a question, about any other organizations, he may be a part of.
Americans may be curious to know which one. I suggest transparency be implemented. At least that is McCains platform. It still is, Right?
And guess what, about Todd Palin?
:)
Of course, Sarah could not join. But she could speak at a group meeting. She’s a Female. Only Men join this group. Women join the OTHER ONE. :)
Who is Senator Richard Shelby…
Who wants the answers?
Who is waiting for the book, to come out?

I feel bad for John McCain and I am a Obama supporter. I think McCain had the best of intentions to go to D.C. but because his credibility has been lost on all other fronts, people are questioning his judgment. Had he been more straightforward from the beginning I think people would not be so outraged. I also think he went around it the wrong way. He could have gone to DC, been negotiating the whole time, then flown to Missipppi. He would have then been able to completed both his duties: as a presidental candidate and as a senator. simple. No need to tell the media anything. However, he was rash to suspend his campaign altogether; Palin could have covered. I think the fair thing to say is that McCain’s intentions may be correct but he went about it the wrong way and he was only partially correct. For those who are criticizing Obama, he may have been performing his senatorial duties but did it without the limelight; its called technology people. Just my two cents. Either way I feel sad for McCain becaues he got himself in this mess by not being trutful from the get go and now he actually wants to help and he gets lashed out on it.

I have my doubts that their will be a deal. Obama didn’t even offer his economic plan to address the crisis that he had promised he would give at a speech a few days ago…instead he said he wanted to let the Congress work it out. He was simply stalling the clock out – and this is what the Democrats are trying to do – stall the clock out. That’s not leadership. Obama never offers substantive plans; he just offers lofty 10-point plans that can’t be nailed down.

AMERICA, McCAIN IS NOT READY
By Dr.‘Strongblood’
America’s enemies like Iran’s Ahmadnejad will love to have McCain in office because no outside interference will be needed to destroy this great nation. All that is needed is her bad leadership. Dear America, as the President of EmancipationUSA and a serious lover of this nation and her God, if I fail to speak up and blow the trumpet, I will not only hate myself but God Himself will hold me responsible as He will hold some of you responsible who know the truth but keep quiet. Yes, McCain may be a war hero, but he is a million miles away from being ready to lead this nation at this time. He is ready to do any and all things just to be elected President not to solve problems—that’s all! John McCain has serious problem with any systematic process of doing anything. You cannot tie him to a serious process because he is very whimsical in approach. He is a spontaneous type of person (not a leader) who enjoys opening his mouth and says something when there is confusion or when nothing is planned to help catch his weaknesses. This man is not a leader at all, at least not to lead this nation. This is CRITICAL! THIS IS CRITICAL! He will destroy and finish off what is left of America. President Ahmadnejad of Iran predicted of America’s self-destruction or collapse (UN meeting, September 2008). A perfect way to do it is to elect John McCain instead of Barack Obama.
John McCain wants to be President and that’s all! Helping to solve problems is secondary. That’s exactly the way he comes around to any serious, thinking person. This is hugely serious, America. Voting for McCain is equivalent to committing suicide for this great nation at this time. America—Stop playing games with your greatness, future, and people’s lives; open your blind eyes and see. John McCain is grossly a whimsical type of leader who will not accomplish much for this nation but will actually contribute at a negative return starting from where the nation is now! He will hurt America severely in all angles—domestic economy, domestic social relations, national security, and international relations. I like him but he cannot lead at all. He has little or no knowledge or respect for management process and principles. With John McCain, it is going to be ‘quadrupled-crisis-management’ for America. President George W. Bush is much better than McCain in leadership. Let that tell you something. I am not trying to talk down on my President because I love him. However, I am crying out for what awaits America if McCain is elected.
In addition to numerous articles or criticisms by some republicans and others concerning McCain’s confusion and lack of leadership skill and whimsical lifestyle or leadership approach, Albert Hunt observed concerning the current American financial crisis:
Obama’s record and earlier speeches belie some of his more populist rhetoric. Yet they also suggest, as do his advisers, a much more activist government role than is likely under a McCain-Palin administration…Obama called for the overhaul of the financial-regulatory system and tougher enforcement well before this past week’s traumas. Detached observers who watched him last week, especially in a Bloomberg Television interview, were taken by how conversant and comfortable he was on the subject, despite his thin record. Few detached observers came away with that impression watching the Arizona senator…McCain displayed a sudden interest in the SEC last week when he demanded that Chairman Chris Cox be fired. When his campaign was asked if the senator had ever criticized the current commission’s performance before, they failed to respond. (Hunt, Bloomberg, September 21, 2008).
What you just read, in addition to all the Obama endorsements during the primaries and the clean criticisms of John McCain by Republicans and others alike show you that Obama possesses the strategic leadership and foresightedness that America needs now and NOW! Unfortunately, fellow Christian conservatives and one-issue voters are trying to subject America into mass suicide partly because Obama has a black skin. God have mercy. I rather cry out now than to be held partly responsible for what will happen if McCain is elected. He is a good man but he will be a very bad leader for America.
Now think about it. The first Presidential debate is two days away, the whole nation is urgently waiting to listen to these two men to help them assess whom to elect as the next President of USA for solving the critical problems of the nation as it is looming now, the University is fully prepared, the general election is about a month away, etc. What do you get with John McCain in this late hour? He is playing politics with a very serious problem. He knows the debate cannot be postponed. He does not want to be exposed in the debates. He just talks—to want people to think he is being a leader, suggesting that the debate be deferred. He does not understand that the critical debate is inherently an urgent way to determine each candidate’s thoughtfulness and thought process in general, and it has everything to do with solving the problems at hand. Is he backing away from a bullfight in the last minute? Can we have a person lead this great nation who is not well examined in leadership through our process? Can we elect a man the CEO and CIC of this country with all her complex problems just because he is a war hero but has very little or no leadership skill? Wake up USA!
McCain is not concerned about the financial crisis or reaching any consensus or no consensus. He is dangerously whimsical and cannot be tied to a process, even to a serious, critical debate. He is acting like a lazy, erratic, and whimsical student who keeps wanting the teachers to postpone his exams until all his exams are postponed to one day. The same student later requested that the exams be postponed until the next semester. The teachers refused. The student did nothing but have nervous breakdown. He dropped out of school and blamed the teachers and administrators. Finally, the student messed up his life and those of loved ones, including those who looked up to him.
I am very ashamed of John McCain with this stunt and playing politics with the imminent downfall of this great nation just because he JUST wants to be President. America, we had better wake up or cry and regret forever! Let’s stop playing games with this nation. The world and your God are watching you. For those of you who know the truth and continue to mess around with your votes, please do not blame anyone when the nation keeps tumbling down in the midst of chaos after chaos. Be ready to repent yourself and then pray (not criticize) the one that you have pushed into the unmerited position. Every position demands some serious qualities. The position of the presidency of the United States of America AT THESE TIMES does not call for a person like McCain at all. Your perfect choice is Senator Barack Obama of Illinois. Let’s stop beating around the bush and playing politics while lives are at stake. Let’s stop kidding ourselves. It is as clear as ABC and 123. Some people may continue to make it complicated to you only if you let them. Barack Obama is the right and best choice!
America needs to be very strong morally, economically, politically, educationally, etc. Obama may not be helping morally because of his stand on abortion and gay issue, but we have super issues that contribute to a lot worse problems and deaths than abortion and gay lifestyle. Obama is the person for America now. He can be used to heal and resurrect America domestically and internationally before we can see again to talk about abortion and gay issues. USA is very dear to her citizens and to the world! Without solid America, wicked leaders and nations will run amok. We certainly do not want America to collapse.
America, you are beginning to run elections and voting for candidates the way many troubled-nations do—voting on issues that do not have anything to do with leadership. Without knowledge and leadership, you can kiss any administration and the country it leads bye, bye. That’s what is happening to many developing nations today. It has started hitting America hard. People, the antidote to stopping this mess and controlling this faltering ship is Obama. Obama has high quality knowledge and sound leadership skills that will bail out, stabilize, and then grow America. Let’s not let racism, one-issue voting, and/or any other nonsense sidetrack us from making the wisest decision that America must have to make at this time. USA is in tidal waters now. Barack Obama is the perfect captain for this ship at this time. Obama is the clean choice! You had better believe it. Throw away any prejudice and let us vote for this man or we will be in worse waters. Let’s stop playing games with America’s future.

why do you think I “OD’ed on Obama kool-aid?” I was actually defending McCain. I am not a naive person and know it could be a political ploy but am saying that there could be a genunine care on the part of McCain but his lying throughout the campaign makes it suspicious. Furthermore, with regards to Obama, my point was we don’t know the whole story about what was going on behind the scenes and just because Obama wasn’t in the limelight doesn’t mean he wasn’t doing anything. Next time come up with an actual arguement against what someone has said instead of name calling.

Posted by: Leonard Peltier | September 25, 2008, 8:54 pm 8:54 pm
McCain simply doesn’t seem to be interested in a solution for our economy. No wonder maybe, because he fails to understand anything about the workings of Wall Street.
He only cares about a political solution that obscures his Palin troubles and puts him center stage as deal maker.
McCain is no man for the American Presidency. He’s a gambler.

Face it folks either guy gets in, your tax dollars will be spent overseas or given away to campaign contributors. Pure and simple. No way around it. The policies will stay EXACTLY the SAME, ok. There is no risk here if you love the staus quo. However if you wanted this country to change it’s course from entering the abyss, SORRY financially, economically, militarily, we are headed over the cliff, no matter if it’s “Insane McSAME” or Barack OBOMBA who wants to create citizen councils to ticket you for not seperating your paper from your plastic in the garbage bin like they already do in Britan. It is interesting that McCain and Obama are getting tax payer dollars to do a job in Washington and McCain is the only one who takes his JOB seriously..
Obama spends 143 days in the Senate, runs for President and when the country is in need of him to go and do his JOB, he decides a DEBATE is more important.
Where is the outrage that Americans tax dollars (5 million dollars) is going to fund a DEBATE that could have been taken care during the summer with 10 Town Hall meetings.
Obama likes the “GLAMMER” as demonstrated at the Denver Convention where he spent 7 million dollars with a Greek facade strictly to impress the country.
No wonder the House Republicans and McCain are holding tight on those 700 billion dollar purse strings.
Tax payers are footing this bill for years to come and many of the people posting here will be many years older when that debt is paid off,

People, McCain pulled a very bad stunt on America. He keeps saying country first but it is really “Him becoming President” first. He is super impulsive and whimsical. The way he called for deffering the debate is exactly the way he chose his running mate. He can do anything at any time, disregarding any process. If he cannot handle a debate and still participate in discussions, something is wrong. The fact is that he does not want to be exposed in any debate. He hates process or something methodical that has a potential to examine his mind and to determine that he really does not hold water in places and things people think he holds water. He is mainly a noise-maker. He wants to run on being a soldier, lies, and inuendos instead of being examined closely throgh a predetermined process. McCain is a good soldier but he is critically unfit to lead this nation. Electing McCain as the next President of America is handing Ahmadnejad a Christmas gift. No one has to do a thing to have America destroyed. Lack of leadership will kill it with people like McCain in the oval office. To learn more about McCain and Obama, you may visit championsociety.com to download the two best books on McCain, Obama, and Governor Palin. McCain is unfit to lead this nation. Guaranteed! In leadership and in fixing America’s economy, national security, and international relations, Obama is by far the best choice. McCain, though was a good soldier, is a noise-maker when it comes to leadership principles and approaches. He is utterly whimsical and impilsive with no single respect to process or plan. He will lead this nation to her grave if care is not taken. Impulsive and whimsical behavior should have no place in leading a nation like this….Sr. Strongblood, President, EmancipationUSA.

– How many times does McCain have to prove that he will make strong executive decisions and take shots from the media and the democrats in order to prove that he will always do what is right for the American people. –
Well, just be glad he wasn’t in office when all of this happened! Here’s a quote from John McCain’s article, ‘Better Health Care at Lower Cost for Every American’, in the Sept./Oct. 2008 issue of Contingencies, the magazine of the American Academy of Actuaries:
“Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation”.
That was THIS months issue.

Psstponing the debate is the ONLY way the two parties will settle this mess. The reason is simple – IF each candidate heads into a debate and take opposing views on any issue related to the financial crisis, such opposing view will become “cast in stone” – nobody will back down after such views are articulated in such a forum. Fact is, debates pre-assume opposing viewpoints, the candidates can’t simply go to a debate without DEBATING, and that means taking opposing views. THIS IS THE LAST THING WE NEED AT THIS POINT… BTW, I think both candidates are worthy of being President, but it appears that Obama my well be pushing too hard at the moment, and should calm down and focus on this financial crisis… he’s got plenty of time to expose his strengths in a multitude of ways before the election – but not until after a settlement has been reached and he is wrong to push for the debate at this moment.

Obama has essentially endorsed this HUGELY unpopular $700 Bil bailout and McCain needs to stay free market. If the republicans find a free market, private solution and then say that they will be giving broad based tax cuts to stimulate the economy and viola, McCain will win.

Good thing, since he hasn’t been there since April. But in all honesty, the only reason they were called in was because they are running for top-dog position and it would seem inappropriate not to do so, purely for show. Can you imagine the public reaction.. chickens in Washington and wall street running around claiming the sky is falling, Bush on the TV declaring a national crisis and end of the world, media going on and on how we will slip into the largest depression since 1929.. and neither candidate was there to ‘fix’ things?
They had very little input to the plan, and their only concerns, as they have stated was, to ensure there was sufficient oversight and reporting.. you know, that ‘transparency’ each one is trying to espouse in their campaigns..
What I saw was McCain trying to ‘look’ presidential, all the while doing more flip-flops than a fish on a hot sidewalk eventually reversing his long time campaign for deregulation and calling for what Obama has been advocating since the beginning, coming up with some half thought out plan as a purely reactionary response, calling out for the firing of various individuals and claiming that he was ‘suspending’ his campaign until the world was right again. All the while, Obama realized that the sky was not falling and continued on in a calm and reasoned manner, knowing that the powers in place would eventually hammer something out that he could review and approve if necessary.
I saw some Presidential qualities glimmering in all of this, but it sure wasn’t coming out of McCains camp.

Please tell me how ‘how’ he got into Harvard has anything to do with, well, anything? Should we also investigate just how McCain got into the US Naval Academy with perhaps a little help from dad and grand-dad who were both admirals in the Navy? Does it do anything to change the fact that Obama graduated magna cum laude, something that is not given out lightly, particularly at Harvard Law School, while McCain graduated 5th from the bottom?

Why is it so hard for the republicans to commit $700 billion (actually 1.5 billion at this point) to fix their deregulatory screw up, but they had no problem supporting $400 billion plus a year in deficit spending for the past 8 years that has put us 3.2 trillion in the hole so far.
Republicans want to destroy this country, then so be it. I live where we have the 8th largest economy in the world. I would rather see my tax dollars stay here and watch the red states go in the toilet

Harvard Graduates are not much different from those of most other “respected schools.” Lots of winners, but also lots of PHDs with “no clue!” Many of us on the right are seeing an inverse correlation with regard to level of education and the ability to understand inductive and deductive reasoning which is seriously lacking in most liberal arts colleges and universities of today.

I’d tend to agree with you there Bill. I was willing to give both a chance.. I’m an independent. What really turned me off of McCain was his continuation of Reganomics, giving huge tax breaks to the wealthy. Even his own economic advisor, when head of the Congressional Budget Office showed over and over again in his analysis that trickle down just doesn’t work. I liked Obamas approach of giving the tax breaks to those who need it most. I’ve also felt that we should have been moving towards renewable alternative fuel sources ever since the great gas shortage back in, what was it, the 70′s.. the RNC chanting “drill now, drill now” just disgusted me. But when McCain picked Palin, it was all over. To me, doing so just showed that his judgement is not what it used to be. And now keeping her away from answering the questions that will help people make up their mind about her is simply an insult to Americans.

I’ll agree with you on that one. However, my original point of polls showing higher education levels favoring Obama, was to indicate that the great masses of our country tend to be sheep. They will assimilate any ‘fact’ spouted without actually researching the underlying truths or falsehoods. That is why the Roveian tactic of fear and ignorance is so effective. However, a more educated individual has an increased chance of actually challenging such claims to determine for themselves if it is indeed verifiable.

Obama presidency = Fall of U.S Superpower
All empires fall in the same way, panic followed by arrogance. They are always arrogant with their power, trying to pursue the unlimited expansion beyond their ability. British, Soviet Union, and currently U.S. all do this. At one point, the expansion brings great trouble both domestically and internationally. Then the empire panics and it just looks for anything for change. Unfortunately, change based on inexperience always brings the fall of the empire.
Let’s just compare the latest example (collapse of Soviet Union) with the current U.S. Superpower.
Soviet Union
1. Arrogance: 1979 Afghanistan War, Overturned a government with objection worldwide
2. Panic: 1985 chaotic economic situation due to Afghanistan war . Looking for anything for change, chose young and inexperienced Gorbachev, very popular worldwide, very attractive among young people who don’t treasure experience.
3. Collapse: 1991, Change into worse situation. All fleets couldn’t run and all oversea military presences were pulled back due to shortage of funding. Begged western countries that sang for Gorbachev for help, but received erosions instead. End of Soviet Union
United States
1. Arrogance: 2003 Iraq War, Overturned a government with objection worldwide
2. Panic: 2008 chaotic economic situation due to Iraq war. Looking for anything for change, chose young and inexperienced Obama, very popular worldwide, very attractive among young people who don’t treasure experience.
3. Fall: 2012, Change into worse situation. All fleets cannot run and all oversea military presences are pulled back due to shortage of funding. Beg allies that sing for Obama for help, but receive erosions instead. End of U.S superpower

I agree that the networks seem biased, but not for the left. They are biased for simplistic “clips”. With a massive trade deficit, unparalleled gov’t deficit, and now a bail-out of the financial system which will initially cost well over $2,000/man, woman and child in America, things are anything but SIMPLE. The average household savings approaching 0, yet the Gov’t is spending and borrowing from future generations like everyone is sitting on gold. The networks MUST stop with the short “clips” and start digging into what is actually happening. The candidates MUST now be REALLY good to hold everything together long enough to find a solution, as painful as it will be. Simple casting of issues by the media doesn’t enable the candidates to illustrate the breadth of their organisations. I’d like to see each party’s financial wizards WRITE OUT their vision of a solution, then have a detailed discussion of which approach is best… unfortunately, the networks don’t think anyone cares about the details ;(

Yup, it looks good on paper.. but history has shown a different story. In addition, the ‘trickle-down’ effect takes time before any gains are realized, if any. I truely believe that under Obamas plan, putting more money into hands the people who need it most, the low and middle class, will stimulate the econmoy quicker and with more profound effects.

You can’t be serious! Lets just take your examples.. Obama hit it dead on in 2000 when he opposed Iraq, while McCain claimed it would be a swift and easy victory with a quick transition to a new democratic Iraqi government. And you would think since he was on the Senate Armed Services committee, went to the US Naval Academy and National War College he would have a better insight. Obama has tried to push energy independence bills to switch us to alternative fuels, while McCain wants to drill for more oil and build nuclear plants. Obama has been calling for repeals on deregulation, such as closing the enron loop hole, while McCain has for at least the last 10 years been pushing deregulation and only recently turned around and started espousing ideals that Obama had been calling for all along.
I’d hardly call that Obama following McCain.

When Bush cut taxes early in his presidency, we enjoyed six years of booming economic growth – AND THAT WAS DURING THE 911 DAYS, WAR ON TERRORISM AND A HOST OF WEATHER RELATED INCIDENTS!! actually dwarfing those economies of most European countries. I know that I enjoyed a boost in MY paycheck! Obama’s socialistic plans (which have failed in Europe) will just be an added burden on most of us because those with bucks are going to put them into tax free munis or into offshore accounts. SOCKING IT TO BIG BUSINESS? DREAM ON!! BUSINESS WIll EITHER CUT BACK OR PASS ADDED TAXES ON TO THE REST OF US – OR MOVE TO FRIENDLIER COUNTRIES!!! Well, he did inherit a pretty sweet position from the Clinton era.. first balanced budget in 29 years, falling unemployment rates, large federal surplus and the longest peacetime expansion in history.

Which ‘socialistic’ plans are you referring to? If you are talking health care, he wants to develop a national health care system for people who otherwise would not have any healthcare, and participation would be completely optional. Even the wall street journal has praised Obamas plan saying “Given the current inefficiencies in our system, the impact of the Obama plan will be profound. Besides the $2,500 savings in medical costs for the typical family, according to our research annual business-sector costs will fall by about $140 billion”. As for McCains plan, it states “n contrast, Sen. McCain, who constantly repeats his no-new-taxes promise on the campaign trail, proposes a big tax hike as the solution to our health-care crisis. His plan would raise taxes on workers who receive health benefits, with the idea of encouraging their employers to drop coverage”.

Lawrence O’Donnell was one of John McCain’s biggest fans defending him every morning on Mornin’ Joe. How about him pointing out that Obama had been having meetings and phone conferences with the financial advisors and Senator Dodd and McCain hadn’t spoke with any of them. Tuesday McCain said he hadn’t even read the bailout proposal–all 2 ½ pages–and yesterday he’s figured out how to stop the madness just by being there? Give me a break. This is all a set up so Caribou Barbie can weasel out of the VP debate.

I want to see McCain answer some questions about whether he intends to continue on his lobbyist-driven path of reckless, no-regard-for-circumstances deregulation. Given his lack of competence, it’s better to have others clean up after the mess left by his “let the robber barons do as they please” ideology.

– WHICH LEFT US PRETTY BARE IN BATTLE AGAINST TERRORISM –
You see, there is the first fallacy. Did you know that according to the CIA, in 2000 Al-Qaeda was estimated to have between 1000-1500 members worldwide? Hardly a spit in the bucket when you consider there are over 6 billion people on this planet.
Also, a Recent RAND study of terrorist groups throughout recent history and how they were removed or defeated shows that military action pretty much has _never_ worked. They state, and I quote:
“To help fill this gap, Martin Libicki and I examined 648 terrorist groups that existed between 1968 and 2006. We found that they ended for two major reasons: members decided to adopt non-violent tactics and join the political process (43 percent of the time), or local police and intelligence agencies arrested or killed key members of the group (40 percent). Military force has rarely been the primary reason how terrorist groups have ended (10 percent), and few groups have ever achieved victory (7 percent)”.

Facinating read, and I encourage you to do so.

The point is, Manitu, that Senator Obama has been working with/and talking to financial advisors and Congressional members this whole week. McCain never called to see what was up. McCain thinks he’s starring as “Johnny Maverick Goes to Washington,” but his campaign is a joke, and he’s the punchline. He’s running around, trying to make one dramatic move after another, trying to do that thing that will suddenly launch his campaign. He’s looking like someone’s grandpa who got too drunk at the wedding, and is embarrassing everyone at the reception.

Interesting statistics, but you can’t fight a war with statistics. If we had a full military, 911 MIGHT not have happened. AND… if we were at full strength, Iraq might have been over much sooner!! Clinton gave the terrorists the impression that we would not respond to terrorist attacks. Hussein also believed that we would NOT invade Iraq, based upon Clinton’s weak response to terrorist attacks against us. STRENGTH PERCEIVED IS STRENGTH ACHIEVED!! MILITARY PRINCIPLE #101!! Obviously lost on Obama.

Almost all polls show majority citizens and business owners against the bailout before Congress.
With McCain favoring the bailout, it will be a coup for Obama to oppose the bailout when the bill got into the Congress floor for roll call vote.
His no votes will validate and support his campaign platform of CHANGE.
For sure, Obama will then get innumerable votes from many undecided and independent voters who firmly oppose the bailout bill.
Additionally, he can legitimately attack McCain on his REFORMS platform that contradicts his support and voting for the bailout.

As a conservative, I normally would be opposed to a bailout of this magnitude. Problem is… without this bailout, MAJOR CHANCE FOR A LONG RECESSION OR DEPRESSION as foreign money in withdrawn from our economy. This is a NO BRAINER AND NEEDS TO BE DONE. I SUPPORT MCCAIN ON THIS.

– Interesting statistics, but you can’t fight a war with statistics. –
You obviously missed the point of the analysis, or read it to see what recommendations were made specifically in Iraq.
– If we had a full military, 911 MIGHT not have happened. AND… if we were at full strength, Iraq might have been over much sooner!! –
Sure, we can play the ‘IF’ game all night, and it won’t do a bit of good. But if you look at the reality of the situation, it was Bin Laden who started 9/11, yet he’s still hanging out and making tapes. We had more than sufficient forces to go in and take him out, and instead Bush sent a marginal ‘token’ force, and then decided to go into Iraq as a diversion. We have seen the result.
If you had read that RAND report, it specifically addresses terrorism groups with religious motivations, such as Al-Qaeda, and says “By far the most effective strategy against religious groups has been the use of local police and intelligence services, which were responsible for the end of 73 percent of groups since 1968″. That is, bite off the head of the snake and the rest dies.
Where is Bin Laden now and just how well is that military stance working for us?
– Hussein also believed that we would NOT invade Iraq, based upon Clinton’s weak response to terrorist attacks against us –
I hardly think you can profess to know what Saddam believed.. and please tell me what threat Saddam was to the US again?
Look, if you support McCain because you are pro-military, pro-war, shoot-em first and ask questions later (ie: preemptive strike), then just say so. If that’s the case, then McCain is your man as long as you accept the rest of the stuff that comes with him (economy, health care, taxes, energy, etc…).
I much prefer getting back to our heritage where military options were always the very last possible action, and even then, it required a declaration of war from Congress to use. Obama seems to share those values, with diplomacy and dialog before military force.

The First time that Bush pushed for the Fast Bail Out he said that it would be the only time he needed to use the taxpayer’s money to strengthen our American Economy.
Now here we are at Bail out #4 with Bush pushing for the quickest bail out of Our tax dollars in the amount of 700billion dollars.

It’s hardly a major chance.. the sky is not falling. However, by dipping into the deficit even further, for this amount of money, you can be assured without a doubt that you will see the Dollar plummet in the world market and inflation will go through the roof. Hmmm.. how about he got some brains, unlike his opponent and Bush…
or, he has a tax proposal that will benefit real Americans instead of the wealthy.
or, his energy plan is much more progressive towards alternative energy sources and would let us obtain energy independence faster than what McCain is proposing.
or, his healthcare plan is far superior to that of McCains.
or, he is pro-choice, pro-stem cell research and believes in equal rights
or, he wants to end the war in Iraq asap so we can concentrate on real issues facing this country
or, he has a much greater chance of restoring global cooperation with his diplomacy and dialog over military force attitude instead that of someone who has spent most of their lives in the military and supports military buildup and preemptive action
or, his economic plan has been the same since his entering the race, he wants to make closing the enron loophole a priority while McCain says it needs further study..
Oh wait, you just wanted one.. sorry.

Obama is idiot…you remember his comments that we could be completely off oil in 10 years…How stupid and impossible. How about if everyone just inflates their tires, it would save more oil than drilling will stupid comment? The guy is a fool—–and although properly inflated tires will save a tiny amount of oil–it is basically an unnoticeable amount. Obama and health care======take from those working to give complete and total healthcare to what druggies? Have you been on government health care? I have….it dangerous and explains why foreigners run over to the US when they catch more than a common cold. Best thing to do with health care——is allow medicine to be bought from other countries which would force the pharma companies to lower their drug prices so people can afford their own health care. Best of all, it wouldn’t cost tax payers a dime. Toss the idiot Obama out.

US NEWS:
Analyst: Obama, Clinton Budgets Don’t Add Up
April 28, 2008 02:30 PM ET | James Pethokoukis | Permanent Link
Dan Clifton over at Strategas Research crunches the numbers on the Clinton and Obama economic and budget plans and squeezes out a lot of red ink:
Our review of spending and tax proposals show Democratic candidates are seeking to make their proposals “paid for” in a budget neutral manner. Hence, the candidates are ignoring the fact that they will be facing possibly a $500bn budget deficit upon entering office. The net effect of this is that most of the spending plans being promised will be scuttled for only the highest priorities…. We pulled the major tax proposals and matched the number to the proposed spending. If Clinton was able to enact all of her promises, the deficit would increase by more than $100bn and Obama by $175bn. We were generous by assuming troop withdrawal will occur immediately, the tax cut repeal is retroactive, [ignoring] automatic entitlement spending, and the AMT and the spending proposals were not even close. Governing will be very different than campaigning.
My take: The news could be even worse since the higher tax rates could retard economic growth and lead to lower government revenues. This could be 1993 all over again, where Bill Clinton scrapped his Putting People First agenda in favor of budget cutting.
Posted by: chattyway | September 26, 2008, 3:12 am 3:12 am
From the LA times.
In more than a year of campaigning, Barack Obama has made a long list of promises for new federal programs costing tens of billions of dollars, many of them aimed at protecting people from the pain of a souring economy.
But if he wins the presidency, Obama will be hard-pressed to keep his blueprint intact. A variety of budget analysts are skeptical that the Democrat’s agenda could survive in the face of large federal budget deficits and the difficulty of making good on his plan to raise new revenue by closing tax loopholes, ending the Iraq war and cutting spending that is deemed low-priority.
Like predecessors who also had to square far-reaching promises with inescapable budget realities, they say, a President Obama might need to jettison pieces of Obama-ism.
“I don’t think it all adds up,” Isabel Sawhill, an official in President Clinton’s Office of Management and Budget, said of Obama’s spending plans.
“There will definitely need to be a recalibration of these proposals once someone is in office,” said Sawhill, now a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. “The fiscal situation just isn’t going to permit doing what Sen. Obama or anyone else would like.”

Hey chatty.. I see some numbers comparing Clinton against Obama.. What happened to McCain? That seems to be a democratic only analysis with no mention of the republican side. Wonder why that is? And while the article says that the tax proposals will attempt to be ‘tax neutral’, that is indeed what the candidates say, but the TPC has already confirmed that we will see a net deficit under both candidates. The latest Sept. 15th analysis says:
“Compared to current law, TPC estimates the Obama plan would cut taxes by $2.9 trillion from 2009-2018. McCain would reduce taxes by nearly $4.2 trillion. Obama would give larger tax cuts to low- and moderate-income households and pay some of the cost by raising taxes on high-income taxpayers. In contrast, McCain would cut taxes across the board and give the biggest cuts to the highest-income households.”

I should have added, those figures are over a 10 year period.. that is, over 10 years, Obamas plan would increase the deficit by an estimated $2.9 trillion, while McCains proposed plan would increase the deficit by $4.2 trillion. Ouch, either way, it’s gonna cost.

An Obama Democrat supporter answering questions about John McCain being in Washington, D.C. at the request of President Bush.
An Obama Democrat supporter says, “McCain is slowing things down”.
When asked, “Is Obama slowing things down?”
Obama Democrat supporter says, “No, Obama isn’t slowing things down.”
When asked, “What is Obama doing?”
Obama Democrat supporter says, “Obama isn’t doing anything.”
When asked, “What is McCain doing to slow things down?”
Obama Democrat supporter says, “Nothing.”
When asked, “How is McCain slowing things down?”
Obama Democrat supporter says, “He just is.”
When Asked, “But isn’t McCain doing the same thing as Obama?”
Obama Democrat supporter says, “Oh, no.”
When asked, “Didn’t you say both Obama and McCain are doing the same and both are doing nothing?”
Obama Democrat supporter says, “That’s true. But McCain is slowing things down.”
Only an idiot could believe what the Democratic Obama supporter said.
Is that the logic Democrats use to support Obama? Hell, they might as well have Donald Duck for a Presidential candidate. The only thing, I think Donald is a Republican that would not want to lower his standards.
Then we have the Democrats saying, “I don’t know why John McCain is here in Washington. He isn’t doing anything. He’s never here to vote”.
Well, Democrats, President Bush is being gracious by requesting both Presidential candidates to be in Washington. He wants both Presidential candidates to hear first hand information. That beats phone calls and misinformation used by the Democrats.
Moreover, it was John McCain showing Obama the way to Washington. McCain is a leader while Obama shows that he is a follower. College professors are saying, “Obama is not qualified to be the President of the United States of American. Obama has no military experience, no executive experience and he is only a junior senator that has much to learn about foreign affairs.
Then there is “Philip J. Berg, Esquire, the Attorney who filed suit against Barack H. Obama challenging Senator Obama’s lack of “qualifications” to serve as President of the United States, announced today that Obama and Democratic National Committee [DNC] filed a Joint Motion to Dismiss on the last day to file a response, for the obvious purpose of delaying Court action in the case of Berg v. Obama, No. 08-cv-04083“.
“It is obvious that Obama was born in Kenya and does not meet the “qualifications” to be President of the United States pursuant to our United States Constitution. Obama cannot produce a certified copy of his “Vault” [original long version] Birth Certificate from Hawaii because it does not exist.”
The Democrats try to use crafty methods to pull in votes for their Presidential candidate. The candidate the Democrats have chosen leaves many unanswered question about his past. He admits to being plagiaristic and that he quotes words from famous people. The only thing wrong with that is Obama make it sound like the quotes are Obama’s and originated by Obama. More deception by Obama.
The next time the Democrats should not try to use trickery and deception when selecting a Presidential candidate. The Democrats should try using someone known to be honest, trustworthy, with diplomatic experience, with executive experience and a person readily recognized by the voting public. I would vote for Oprah Winfrey if she was a Democrat Presidential candidate. However, I do not think Oprah Winfrey would care for the action in Washington, D.C.
The Democrats only use empty words against John McCain and Sarah Palin. Democrats show there is nothing positive to say about Obama. Instead, the Democrats and the Democrat supporters use negative empty words to tear apart the good people, John McCain and Sarah Palin.

“The Arizona senator, who spent three days on the island this week meeting business and political leaders, said he understood the concerns of the insurance and reinsurance sectors about draft legislation proposing a clampdown on U.S. business operations in so-called tax havens. He told the Royal Gazette: ‘The industry, the reinsurance that’s had such phenomenal success has been good for both nations. I SENT THIS LETTER TO MY REPRESENTATIVES IN CONGRESS:
We demand that Congress stops adding earmarks and pork within the contents of the “Bail Out Bill”. In addition we do not want a payout to ACORN — or any organization like ACORN.
We feel this is an egregious abuse of House and the Senate positions in Congress. Enough is enough.
We will no longer continue to vote or support any Representative or Senator who votes for bills with earmarks and pork or allots money to ACORN.
I BELIEVE THE PEOPLE WHO WALKED AWAY WITH TONS OF MONEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BAIL OUT.
If the government agrees to pay off mortgages for people who bought homes they could not afford — then the government needs to pay off ALL mortgages for ALL legal American citizens.
I don’t want my tax payments used to pay off somebody else’s home!
I PERSONALLY AM AGAINST A WALL STREET BAILOUT BUT AT LEAST FORKING OVER A THIRD OF THE MONEY — WITH THE REST CONTINGENT ON EFFECTIVENESS — MAKES SENSE.
I AM TOTALLY AGAINST GIVING 10% TO ORGANIZATIONS LIKE “ACORN”. PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BUY HOMES THEY CAN’T AFFORD. DO NOT BAIL THEM OUT.
