McCain: Obama ‘Missing In Action’ on Econ Plan; Can’t Wait for his ‘Paralysis’ to be Over

ABC News’ Bret Hovell and Imtiyaz Delawala report: At a rally in Media, PA, Monday evening, John McCain accused Barack Obama of being “missing in action” on plans for a bailout of the financial sector, and said that Obama is paralyzed on the issue.

“My friends, Senator Obama has declined to put forth a plan of his own. I’m not surprised,” McCain said to a chorus of boos from the McCain friendly crowd.

“One week after this crisis began, Senator Obama has still not offered any plan of any kind. The time of crisis when leadership is needed, Senator Obama has been MIA my friends, that means missing in action.”

These lines are thematically not new – McCain has been saying for a few days that Obama’s has not put out a plan to address the economic crisis. But the way he said it at Monday’s rally – using words like MIA and paralyzed – was new.

McCain told the crowd that Barack Obama voted “present” in the Illinois state senate “nearly a hundred and thirty times on difficult issues,” and reminded Obama that “you don’t get to vote present,” when you’re president of the United States.

Then this line about acting quickly to fix the problems on Wall Street: “And the truth is we don’t have time to wait for Senator Obama to recover from his paralysis in the face of this crisis.”

McCain was joined by his running mate, Sarah Palin, at the rally, on the steps of the Delaware County (PA) courthouse.

For her part, Palin gave a standard introduction of her running mate, and called for the “treasury deal” to be transparent and have details available online.

“We want to do the same thing in DC,” Palin said. “John wants to do the same thing with the treasury deal. We believe that the American people have the right to know which firms the treasury is helping and what that selection is based on and how much that help will cost you.”

“It’s your money and you do have a right to know where it’s going,” she said.

At the end of her remarks, Palin told McCain that she had a surprise for him, and introduced Paul Teutul, whose cable show “American Choppers” features souped up motorcycles.

Teutul rode a chopper on stage to present to McCain, and said how proud he was to be there.

Obama is also missing in action about his earmarks. If the truth be known.
Earmarks – just this year Joe Biden requested over $340 million in pork. Obama has not released any information on his earmarks yet. The McCain campaign has asked for how much earmarks Joe Biden has requested since 1972 when he started…must be a staggering sum since he requested just $340 million this year. The Obama campaign called for a request checking John McCain back since 1990 and could not find any evidence that McCain had ever requested or received any earmarks. Who is giving away your money?

Obama is Bush 3rd term. He is strongly supporting gov. bail out.

McCain was jumping all over this issue and was wrong only to make a u-turn the next day. Obama on the other hand waited for the facts and then made a sound judgment.
Once again Obama has been right and McCain has been wrong.

When our Pied Piper President of Lies rallied everyone to his phoney war, Americans lined up like lemmings to follow him off the the edge of the cliff. OBama said “No”.
Now, in his final moment of glory, our Pied Piper President of Lies is rallying all of the nation’s rabble to line up behind the glorious theft of $700 Billion from present and future generations of taxpayers, to transfer this wealth directly into the pockets of his good ol’ buddies on Wall Street.
And just like when he led us all off the cliff of Iraq, we are about to follow him blindly off yet another cliff. McCain is joining the rallying cry, beating his drum.
And again, Obama is saying “No”.
Days ago, Obama published a clear set of conditions (such as “no blank check”) on his website. However, he knows that this is a phoney cause, and he is not rallying behind it. Because he thinks. And he is smart.
McCain can beat his drum loudly and position himslef as our next Pied Piper President. Republicans will beat their chests in unison.
Mr. McCain, Obama is not paralyzed. He is standing on the sidelines watching you making a fool of yourself.

McFlipFlopper,
What is your final position?
What is your plan?
We don’t want generalities. We want the meat and how you are going to pay for it.
Obama has laid down a plan on how to save the Financial markets. Obama has outline how to put checks and balances in the bailout plan.
What has McCain proposed? NOTHING.

Obama has a six point plan and McCain has had to flip flop into supporting Obama`s call for more regulation.
Obama 08. Judgment to lead.

McCain can propose plans that will never be implemented.
By time he takes office, the “crisis” will be over 110 days past on his lobbyist buddies will have cashed their bonus checks.
I say screw the bailout and give the $3,500 or $4,500 cost per taxpayer to each taxpayer to spend as they like. This stimulus should cover the economic activity of the bailout money.

What’s McCain’s plan, to cribbage the Bush plan? Maybe you should voice your own before you criticize Obama, old man.
Using MIA and paralyzed, I’m surprised ole John didn’t drag out the prison guard Christmas story while he was at it. The guy is getting as bad as Giuliani and 9-11.

Obambino is busy to work out the deal with Slick Willy to bring Hill back. Biden will fake a stroke. It seems like there is some technical issues regarding Hill to be back but not as VP and Obambino doesn’t know what to do. Afterall, the drive-by media said 1 out of 3 white libs may not vote for a black dude, so Obambino may just have to take the Veep job. Stay tune for the libs’ drama in October

Sarah cashes in again:
At the end of her remarks, Palin told McCain that she had a surprise for him, and introduced Paul Teutul, whose cable show “American Choppers” features souped up motorcycles.
Over the weekend her kids got a trip to Disneyworld.
On her first day she got Ohio State clothes.
She likely has been to Hershey, PA as a side trip too.
I wonder what other goodies she has received.

Don’t be fooled again by these Rovian tactics of John McCain. Obama has no economic plan! Obama wanted to bail out the home owner 18 months ago, this would have shored up the economy and the credit of the sub-prime market and we would have avoided this whole stock market mess. But McCain and the Republicans did not want to bail out the home owner (McCain kept calling the home owner a speculator when asked this question. Now that it hit their big business buddies on Wall Street, they are bailing out the speculators. Where is the McCain plan? When your plan is the status quo and rubber stamping the Bush administration I guess you do not need a plan. Don’t be fooled, the McCain plans are just more of the same. An independent non-partisan expert analyst that both Obama and McCain agreed to analyzed both the Obama and McCain economic plans. He tore apart the McCain plan essentially as a fraud. McCain will have massive debts and will have to bring spending down to 1950 levels if he does not want to raise taxes, yet when confronted by this McCain still says, it will work. This reminds me of George Bush Senior “read my lips; no new taxes.” What did he do? Raise taxes! McCain will to, he has no choice now that the republicans have crashed the economy with deregulation and deficit spending. One thing truthful out of McCain’s mouth is that he does not understand economics. Independent for Obama/Biden!! 2008!!

Posted by: Perspective | September 22, 2008, 8:15 pm 8:15 pm

What planet has McCain been living on for the past week? I’ve been listening to Obama, and he’s been saying all along what needs to be done, including common-sense regulation and protecting the middle class. McCain, on the other hand, started last week by calling for a commission to study the situation. Then he wanted to fire SEC Chairman Christopher Cox, a loyal Republican, but he didn’t know the law didn’t allow him to. He ended the week by a) blaming Obama for the current crisis, and b) calling for new regulation, in contradiction of 26 years of supporting de-regulation. So of the two candidates, McCain is the one who has proven he doesn’t have a plan! Now McCain says that de-regulation worked so well for the banking industry, he wants to do the same to health care! We can NOT afford John McCain as president!

McSame, McSame, let’s be rational. This is NO time for anyoneone to be shooting one’s mouth off, firing anyone, or stating any position UNTIL AND UNLESS one knows what the real situation is. It is best to keep your mouth shut until you really know and understand where we are at. Shooting your mouth off does not help, nor does false promises do anything until we know the truth! Remember how we got into an unwarranted war with false and incorrect informaiion? Trillions of dollars spent, thousands of lives lost? All due to false information!!!! So you can say what you want, shoot blanks and drive us further into the dumps?? That’s why we trust Obama more, because he would assess the ACCURATE AND TRUE situation before making any comments that are truly detrimental to the cause. That is why you McSame is unfit for the office.

If the terrorist attack America again, and IF (a big IF) Obama is in the White House, DON’T EXPECT HIM TO RETALIATE THE TERRORIST AND TO PROTECT YOU, Obama will likely go to the United Nations and “wait for their plan” because he “does not want to interfere”. Anyone doubting my words can just read what barack HUSSEIN obama answered the press in regard of this DIRE ECONOMIC SITUATION.

Posted by: ablanche08 | September 22, 2008, 8:21 pm 8:21 pm

Yes. Why Obama didn’t come-up with a plan fast enough for McCain to copy it and place it under his new McCain “Change you need” sign.
It is a reckless act of Obama to have McCain come-up with a plan of his own just to turn it around 180 degrees a day later when Obama announces his plan.

LEADERSHIP DEMANDS: DECISIVENSS, COMMITMENT & FLEXIBILITY…………..In this DIRE economic situation and this presidential election, Obama shows he has none of these qualties. His “wait & see” attitude in face of the dire economic situation underline his INDECISIVENESS. His abandoment of 3 battlefields (the last one being North Dakota) illustrates his NON-COMMITMENT (aka DEFEATISM). As for flexibility…well…he has it but only if it serves his own agenda like his “flexibility” on the campaign fumd raising. But that’s not flexibility, THAT’S FLIP-FLOPPING BECAUSE IT ONLY SERVES HIS OWN GOODS.

Sareena Jones: If a terrorist group attacks Ameriac, at least Obama will get back at them and not someone else.
You know, Obama understand who are Shias and who are Sunnies. He does understand the difference between Afghanis and Iraqis.
Most importantly, he will NEVER send our troops, and will never risk their valuable lives for a MISTAKE.

>> Has anyone heard anything from Obama that actually has details?
Yes to the most possible details ever, on the campaign website, and his blueprint.

Posted by: Barzia | September 22, 2008, 8:31 pm 8:31 pm

how many reports and plans does obama have to come up with, just because they dont read them doesnt mean they dont exist
obama had a detailed plan up months ago, and then on day that AIG failed he had up a more detailed plan in light of the crisis.
then a few days later released another six point plan
i mean john mccain must be having seizures because he was the one who was paralyzed, he was the one who flipped flopped his way through every single day of last week… it took him two days to realize there was even a crisis
he comes up with a plan almost 6 days later and says no one else did anything, and that he was calm and ready to lead
LOL
i mean, do they think every voter in america is blind or osmething, or cna easily confuse obama and mccain and who did what
its pathetic this mccain camp…
i mean what kind of administration would they run if they are already just completely flat out lying and twisting events and words and facts to whatever kind of message they want to display
i saw this same kind of tactics somewhere else
oh yea, in 2000 and 2004

The comments coming out of the McCain camp are truely comical.. so now he seems to be insinuating that, instead of giving this huge financial mess that has some of the greatest financial powers scratching their heads on a bit of thought and consideration, that he should instead be like him, and come up with a hastily thrown together plan based on a knee-jerk reaction, maybe abrubtly change positions and fire a few people, regardless of it being unconstitutional or not. Thanks John, but no thanks..

Unfortunately, we have and he isn’t fooling anybody.. only showing what he is really made of. His actions are just more of what we have had to put up with under Bush, and it will be a refreshing change to be rid of that kind of an administration once Obama/Biden get elected.

Its quite confusing. Days ago Obama laid out his plan, Today McCain laid out his plan. Now John Keating 5 Mccain who supported deregulation throughout his career wants regulation.I do remember him standing up for Reaganomics 2 decades ago.Now he wants regulations on the big bad Wall Streeters that have been his friends for so long as one can remember. He’s for the plan that he’s also against. He wants to protect the people whom he never protected before. He did vote against the minimum wage 10 times, did he not? He doesn’t want the big shots who have paid his way through his career to make more than the President of the US.Is that not against the free market? Now the bail out is socialism for the wealthy, corporate welfare is it not? If we dont bail them out we loose our jobs perhaps.
Now John McCain says we can’t give one person 700 billion dollars to spend freely. Hes got to be regulated. Didn’t the democrats say that too.
I kid of remember a situation where the Pentagon was given billions in cash to spend in Iraq. No one knows where that was blown. There was no oversite, was there not?
I think that if you figure that 99% of us pay most of the taxes, perhaps if you gave us the 700 billion we can sper the economy and perhaps create new wealth as the old wealth fades away.
The only other option is for the government to purchase the assets at market value and sell them for a profit ASAP.There was a report that Paulson planned to buy the assets at above market value. who knows if that was trth or not. We should not further reward the crooks who happen to be supporters of the Republican party any longer. I must also sy the same way these crooks use short sales to hedge their loss they also contribute to the democrats to hedge their bets.
Perhaps the fairest way is to figure how much the 1% pays in taxes deduct the difference in interest they pay in loans and the figure what the other 99% pay intaxes and add their interst and divide the bail out between the big shots in a proportion figured previously and give the majority to the rest of us to get the economy rolling again. If were to become socialist than the rest of us should benefit from the same socialism that the big shots get.
I am sure John McCain and friends would hate my solution because it is a fairer socialism than the deal we are about to get.

McCain is just desperate now. Obama has come out with a plan and its much better than McCain’s trickle down you’re on your own economic policies that have failed us for so many years!

No, McCain is not Mr. Magoo. He is Hugh Hefner (85) and his (21 year old) girlfriends Sarah.
She: Gee, I never went out with someone over 25 before.
Hef: Neither have I.

The really funny thing is that the $1 trillion doesn’t even exist in the first place!
Ha ha ha ha ha ha
The Federal Reserve turned the Dollar into Monopoly money ages ago. Now we depend on the Fed and foreign governments to tell us how much it’s worth.
What’s that line from Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four?
“The law of gravity is nonsense. If I think I float, and you think I float, then I float!”
Isn’t the timing of this impeccable? Anybody else catch a whiff of George Soros and other like-minded neo-Socialists in all this? You have all these financial ‘experts’ playing dumb all of a sudden, like they never took Economics 101 and are completely divorced from the Market. Give me a break.
You have Socialists against drilling, and you have Socialists using major mortgage companies as adjuncts of HUD with a $ on a stick in front of the noses of greedy Baby Boomers with innate feelings of entitlement taking the bait and what do you get? A real mess expounded by those with their fingers in the pie telling us we’re going into Great Depression II over a fraction of the total market of our huge economy.
If things do go downhill, it will because of Wall Street whiners who don’t want to risk losing even $1000 because Lord knows those lattes at Starbucks are expensive.
Obama doesn’t have a clue. McCain is taking the political risks trying to offer a solution at least, and getting hammered for it. Sounds oddly familiar.

From the AP – Barack Obama’s running mate says a campaign ad that mocked Republican presidential candidate John McCain as an out-of-touch, out-of-date computer illiterate was “terrible” and would not have been done had he known about it.
Gosh, even Biden admits Obama is a crappy campaigner. This is after Biden admitted that Hillary would have been a better VP choice.

If McCain thinks that calling for the firing of Cox, and him changing his position on regulation a plan…he is sorely mistaken. One has to look at his judgement when looking at his reactions last week. The economic meltdown was an excellent opportunity for both candidates to mouth off and score political points…however, with international confidence hanging on a thread, both candidates should have had the restraint to hold back on their objections and allow Bernanke and Paulson to come out with ONE VOICE from america. Barack Obama, despite having proposed a plan to avoid this crisis, and a plan to take us out, kept mum so that Paulson and Bernanke could do their jobs to assuage frayed nerves internationally. And then on the side you have McCain mouthing off, creating all sorts of distractions and perception problems for the administration…it’s a good thing he now finally recognizes the wisdom of Obama’s economic philosophy, but his pattern of being Johnny come lately on a range of issues that have been the hallmarks of Obama’s campaign and plans is beginning to show…..What John McCain did not understand about his actions was that if confidence continued to spiral as a result of his strong words, the 700 billion bailout package would not even be enough to solve the problem. Such impulsive and unpresidential behavior at a time of national crisis….One questions if McCain is more interested in his political interests or the nation’s economic interest. And to come up this week to say Obama has no plan? Absolutely absurd.

RE: Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005 –
“The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae’s former chief executive officer, OFHEO’s report shows that over half of Mr. Raines’ compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.”
“I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.”
– Sen. John McCain (AZ)–May, 2006
NOTE: The Democratic members of Congress killed this bill. Franklin Raines supplied “economic advice” to Obama’s campaign. Go figure.

Actually, Obama has not laid out a plan. He just put forth some objectives he hoped would be included in any bailout plan. he said that he would “reserve judgment” until after a plan has been crafted. I am sorry, but that is not leadership. BHO’s wait-and-see mentality will get this country in a lot of trouble. If he was genuinely concerned about the country, he would put the partisan rhetoric aside and attempt to do something about it. i would rather have a leader who makes a dumb decision in a time of crisis than one who does nothing at all–just waits until it is over to offer his presription. even if he is “flopping” all over the place, at least McCain has the guts to say something, offer his ideas as to what needs to be done.

From the LA Times: “Barack Obama outlines plan for economic crisis -
Many of Obama’s proposals, which include a second economic stimulus package and bipartisan teamwork, are similar to those of John McCain. The Republican says he wants earmarks barred from any bill.” Now, who is playing follow the leader???
