North Korean Leader Suffered Stroke?

ABC News’ Jonathan Karl reports: US intelligence believes North Korea’s dictator Kim Jong II may be seriously ill.

"There are good reasons to believe that Kim Jong Il has suffered a health setback. It could even be a stroke," a senior US official told ABC News.

"There is reason to believe it was serious," the official adds. What are those reasons? US officials won’t say. But for several days there have been reports — both in the South Korean press and in secret US intelligence channels — that suggest the North Korean leader is ill.

Adding weight to those reports, today Kim failed to appear at the parade marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of North Korea. In previous anniversaries of North Korea’s founding, Kim attended elaborate parades in which lines of soldiers saluted him, and rocket launchers and armored vehicles rumbled through Pyongyang.

"This is a major parade, something that he has been at virtually every year since he was born," a U.S. defense official tells ABC News Kim, who holds absolute power over North Korea, has not been seen in public for a month.

However US officials caution that as with everything about North Korea notoriously secretive government, the information about Kim’s health is spotty.

Well well,
Seems the Republican’s schemes, (ALA Reagan during the Carter elections with Iran and the hostages), have failed at another attempt at fooling and “scaring” the American public.
How coincidental that just months before the presidential election, the North Koreans were now backing out of negotiations and re-starting their “nuculer” program, the the delight and “horror” of Republicans everywhere.
McCain was counting on using the “threat” to advance his position as strong in the midst of the “dangers” posed by a resurgent North Koreans and rogue sponsors of terror everywhere. I wonder who else is on the payroll to set off some “fireworks” before the election. (Hmmm, maybe someone allegedly living in the Pakistan/Afghan border region perhaps???)
I wonder how much slush-fund cash the Republican operatives paid that little spoiled playboy bohemian from the north of the peninsula?

You can be sure McCain will call this new development another Bush success and Palin will say she’s been praying for Kim Jong II to get sick. LOL

In a communist regiem when a leader is sick it means that he is dead and they are just trying to figure out who will succeed him.

I am waiting to see how Bush will “orchestrate” our foreign policy and world politics to intervene on McCain’s behalf in these last weeks before the election.
The North Korean issue was already smelling as fowl as a Republican campaign promise.
The shuffling of troops in Iraq over to Afghanistan also smacks of election-driven policies.
What more world events can Bush wrangle the puppet strings on so it looks like Pinocchio is a “real” boy?
The sad reality is that Bush has been saving these “trump” cards up his sleeve to use just on an occasion like this election. Why just solve a world crisis when you can solve the crisis AND make political/financial gain along the way?!
It’s more important to get into office than to accomplish any thing meaningful for the American people, as Republicans’ agendas are far more intricate that actually getting anything relevant accomplished without strings attached.
Political office serves so many “greater needs”, as Abramoff has shown us recently.
The office of the President has become a sham, as well as those of Governors here in the US.
I just hope there will be justice in the end, with all the trimmings.

Let’s hope if he is ill that someone will replace him who isn’t a long haired buffoon and will actually do well be the Korean people. This man has been a tragic joke for so long and has ruined his country. Having just returned from Seoul for 10 days one can see the total difference between the craziness of the North and the full prosperity in the south. Let’s hope and pray that people of honesty and integrity can come to power there. Their best chance in decades.

One less so called leader for Obama to sit down for a nice reasonable face to face, no pre-conditions chat with I guess. Talk about conspiracy theories, if all these two bit tin horn dictators Obama is so ready to meet with suddenly end up dead I guess it’s no longer a campaign issue. Could this be the Clintons contribution to the cause? They are real good at having “problems” turn up dead.

Exactly right Joe. Kim is a man who knows how to run the levers of power and stay in office. I’ll bet Hillarys supporters would have gone far if they protested outside a convention held by Kims party. Of course, I mean “far” in the most self interpretive of ways. If you mean “far” as in a trip across the country to a gulag to spend the short remaining rest of your life eating bugs and rifle butts while having assorted methods of “entertainment” carried out on your broken body by a bunch of fun loving guards, then you are probably pretty close. Yes, it’s a real shame you and Obama will not get the chance to sit down face to face, without pre-condition, and reason with the gentleman to help him learn the error of his ways from your enlightened perspective.

Posted by: EOBFEOBF | September 9, 2008, 4:40 pm 4:40 pm

If Kim Jong II does go ahead and do humanity the favor of leaving this mortal coil, one can only hope his replacement is not another insane hardline conservative communist megalomaniac. The world will spin on if the next North Korean leader is hardline, conservative and a communist, but the insane megalomaniac part has always been scary.

“You know, I truly miss those days when the Neoconservative Republicans would scare us with the orchestration of 9-11, the weapons of mass destruction hype, the painting image of Osama Bin Laden as the Boogie Man, and best of all the ‘all Muslims are terrorist evil doers’ tactics, which when the idea was sold to the average Dairy Queen consuming, televangelist watching ‘Christian Conservative’ allowed us to invade Muslim countries and randomly slaughter Muslims without conscience or guilt all in the name of ‘fighting terrorism’ because lets face it, they’re ‘devil worshippers’ who deserved it as they don’t believe in Christ anyways. Those were the good ole days, where we’d allow the Neocon propaganda lies to play on our fears and cultural ignorance and just sat back oblivious to our foreign terrorist act, totally numbed out by entertaining ourselves with more important events like watching Sports, Dancing with the Stars and the personal life crisis of celebrities like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. Now that was important! Yup, I sure do miss those good ole days”.

Thank goodness the Muslims don’t randomly slaughter each other. Yeah, riiiiight. For every one of us they kill, they kill 100 or their own countrymen. They were doing that long before we got there, they will still be doing it long after we are gone. We defended Muslims from slaughter in the Balkins, but I guess that didn’t count. We may not be perfect, far from it, but trying doing your bitching about religion or politics in a Muslim country and see how that goes over.

So who is calling the shots in N Korea?
They have restarted their nuclear program dispite all the aid that Bush gave them.

Posted by: j | September 9, 2008, 5:38 pm 5:38 pm

So when we took a hard line against North Korea, people said Bush was an idiot for not at least trying to negotiate with them. So, we did, and like they have always done, they told us what we wanted to hear to get what they wanted, and then went right back to doing whatever they wanted to. Big surprise, they have played every administration that has ever tried to deal with them rationally like a finely tuned fiddle. They played Clinton for a fool. They have always been liars, and always will be under their current form of government. Why do we keep having to learn the lesson over and over again?

Posted by: We never seem to learn | September 9, 2008, 5:50 pm 5:50 pm

Listen to yourselves argue. Democrats say, ‘republicans are stupid and brainwashed.’ Republicans say, ‘democrats are stupid and conspiracy nuts.’ Who gives a sh*t about republicans and democrats, liberals and conservatives. We all people and we all live in this country, we should be working together. But republicans and democrats always trying to struggle for power in politics. It makes me sick, I will always hope for the day that a presidential candidate comes along and says f*ck the politics and party agendas and lets make this country better for everyone. But, you know, thats not gonna happen and I’m just dreaming.
