NRA Fires Away at Obama-Biden on TV and Radio

"Defend freedom," urges the National Rifle Association’s new TV and radio ad campaign. "Defeat Obama."

The powerful gun owners’ lobby today announced it is firing away at the Democratic presidential candidate with a cache of TV and radio ads in New Mexico, Colorado, and Pennsylvania.

The ads will run on cable TV in all three battleground states: CMT, CNN, DISC, ESPN, ESPN, ESPN News, ESX, FXNC, GOLFm HIST, MIL, NFL, Outdoor Channel, Speed, Spike, TBS, TNT, TWC, and Versus.

The ad called "Hunter" features a Virginia hunter named Karl Rusch asking about Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., "Where is this guy from? He’s probably never been hunting a day in his life."

"Hunter" claims Obama supports a "huge" new tax on guns and ammo, a claim based on a 1999 story in the Chicago Defender. It says Obama "voted to ban virtually all deer hunting ammunition" (a charge based on a 2005 Senate vote for a failed amendment from Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., which would have expanded the definition of "armor-piercing") and supports a "ban on the shotguns and rifles most of us use for hunting" (a reference to Obama saying in a 2004 Senate debate that President Bush should have renewed the Assault Weapons Ban.)

"Veteran" features the hunter’s son — former Marine Staff Sgt. Kurt Rusch, who served in Iraq — and takes issue with Obama’s opposition in 2004 to a bill that offered legal protections to those who use firearms in self-defense, "freedoms that I fought for, that my friends died to defend," Rusch says.

The legislation originated from a 2003 incident when a Wilmette, Ill., restaurateur named Hale DeMar shot and wounded a burglar who broke into his house. DeMar was prosecuted by the town of Wilmette, which had, at the time, a ban on the possession of handguns, so some Illinois lawmakers introduced legislation to offer legal protections to individuals who use firearms in self-defense. The bill passed the Illinois state House by a vote of 86-25, and the Illinois state Senate — where Obama voted against it — by a vote of 39-20.

A third ad, "Way of Life," features Scott Siefert, a Michigan farmer, invoking Obama’s infamous line from a San Francisco fundraiser in April about economically hurting small towners "cling"ing to guns, God, and bias.

"Because I believe in traditional American values, go to church, and exercise my right to own a firearm," Siefert says, "Barack Obama says I’m bitter. Well I’m not bitter, I’m blessed."

Then there’s this fourth ad, targeted at Keystone Staters who like Obama’s running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del. In "Pennsylvania Values," the narrator says, "Joe Biden wants you to believe that he shares your values because he was born in Scranton. But Pennsylvania gun owners and hunters don’t share his values." The ad then runs through a litany of gun control measures Biden has supported.

The NRA is also running audio attacks on 60 radio stations in Pennsylvania, 22 radio stations in Colorado, and an undisclosed number in the Land of Enchantment.

Witness Obama’s handwritten notes on a questionnaire, where he wrote that he supports a ban on ALL handguns.
Before the anti gun trolls show up, think about the “effectiveness” of the DC handgun ban. Murder capitol of the US for awhile, during the 30 year ban.
’nuff said.

Right on, NRA! That’s what this country needs now! The rest of our problems pale in comparison to not having enough guns to go around.

On the same day Lehman Brothers went bankrupt, Meryl Lynch was sold for pennies on the dollar to Bank of America. John Thain became CEO of Merrill Lynch in December. Thain’s $81 million pay package made him the second highest-earning CEO in the nation this year. Bloomberg News reported that Thain could make another $11 million.
Thain is one of McCain’s chief economic advisers. In less than a year the guy took down a BILLION dollars while running the company into a ditch. And McCain is complaining about golden parachutes?????

Disgraceful ads !
Barack isnt against guns so I dont get it! To me it just proved the NRA is part of the republican party!
Side question:
Hey Tapper why dont you and other members of the media just launch questions at McCain and Palin ? Why dont you do the chicken thing Clinton did to Bush 1 to them!
Iraq was the American medias fault and letting these people aviod facing real questions is a disgrace.

Here come the republican scare tactics. We don’t need another bush term. Pennsylvania was smart enough not to go for bush/cheney in 2000 and 2004. PA will not go for bush-3 in 2008. Obama/Biden 2008!!!

I can’t wait until this is over and Obama is in the Presidency because i will be shouting from the roof tops

the clinging has started… ignore the way to solve the financial mess and who got us here…
get up and yell about “guns”

your houses are being taken away and falling into foreclosure…but yeah this is the right time to fight about guns.

But isn’t Obama for gun rights? After all, there are millions of voters who own guns. Didn’t the annointed one come down four-square behind the recent Supreme Court decision confirming that, against all reports, there is indeed a constitutioinal amendment that protects gun ownership.
Didn’t Barry say something like…”um, uh, um, uh, as I have always, uh, said, um, I support the uh rights of um people to uh bear arms uh uh uh provided, um,um,uh,uh,um, that, of course, they not uh be uh allowed, to um fire the weapon.”

Who cares about these hunters? Redneck hunters weren’t going to vote for Obama anyway. The NRA wont sway anyone who is leaning. The gun issue is one people are already decided on. This will be a waste of ad space on TBS. I’d rather they run Groundhog Day.

Aussie,
Which Obama are you referring to?
The hang-with-terrorists-in-their-living-room-to-launch-my-campaign, or the Obama that says they are “just people in my neighborhood”?
The one who is ON THE RECORD in Il. as being in favor of banning ALL handguns, or the Obama that’s on his website?
The Obama who flipped on the DC gun ban within 24 hours?
Who, as a constitutional scholar, told a reporter he’d have to “study” the matter of the DC gun ban?

Posted by: hippie | September 22, 2008, 3:16 pm 3:16 pm

Serves those idiots right to think they could afford the mortgage payments on their wages. Live within your means and there’s no problem of “bad credit” or “missing a home loan payment.”

I think the NRA is way too conservative. They need to be more liberal! No restrictions on any firepower, by God! I think I should be able to buy mortars, claymore mines and RPGs! I have a right to defend my home and family! I will keep fiends away from my door, if only the NRA would REALLY step up for my second amendment rights! ;-)

I guess the NRA Firing Away with 4 ads at Obama hit the majority of America’s instead.
This is from -
Had enough gun violence? We can’t let the NRA block sensible gun-control laws. By By John E. Rosenthal CSM – Feb 20, 2008.
A couple of points James makes …
-Eighty-nine percent of Americans said they wanted mandatory background checks for anyone buying a gun, according to a 2007 Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research and The Tarrance Group survey.
-83 Americans die each and every day from gun violence. And much of that violence is very preventable.
-No ID or background check required at one of 5,000 legal gun shows.
Does the NRA firing 4 ads at Obama/Biden change the majority of American voters minds. I don’t think so.
Now Obama said hes not going to take anyones guns away. Yet we still have to put up with these NRA ads. In 2004 They contributed over 4 millions dollars to Bushs re-election. Since then over 110,000 American have died by gun violence that was preventable.

The issue is that unlike Obama supporters, we’ve been following him throughout his entire career, and don’t just project our hopes and dreams onto him, as you all seem to do.
Here’s something to chew on, that illustrates His Waffleness perfectly, from ABC news…

Posted by: Emm | September 22, 2008, 3:30 pm 3:30 pm

Charles Whitman used the same excusses. Limiting guns from possible extremists and gangland terrorist, is not anti-NRA. Its interesting, that nost Law Enforcement officals, that put their life on the line, wish to limit, what they may face in the streets. By allowing criminals run around with guns is not the American way. Some extremists would love you to think so. With extremists in the country, why would someone put a Police officer in harms way. Militant groups, are given a chance to over take our Free country, with weapons, that are becoming easier to sell.

Posted by: Edwin | September 22, 2008, 3:32 pm 3:32 pm

Hunter, to your point about Obama bringing down crime…
The point that has to be made, is that the DC handgun ban had no correlation to the amount of people being killed.
It’s not the NRA members that are killing people. It’s criminals. It’s liberals like Obama who institute gun bans, while cities like DC and Chicago are rife with gun violence, IN SPITE of a gun ban.
So don’t tell me Obama supports the 2nd Amendment, because he’s on record as being against all handguns in IL.

Posted by: hippie | September 22, 2008, 3:33 pm 3:33 pm

“Obama does not want to take our guns he just wants to bring down crime.”
Is this another subtle sarcasm? BO’s idea to bring down crime WILL entail banning guns by pure twisted Dem logic that guns=crime. Ridiculous!

Another election about God, guns and gays! Obsessing about those issues has served us so well during the last eight years!
We may not be able to afford gas, food, college education, or health care…our children and grandchildren may die or be badly injured in a senseless war…our retirement accounts may have collapsed with the market. We’re on the verge of assuming another $700 billion in debt because of “deregulation” and greed.
But, by God, we’ll still have our guns!

Pro-gun allies in Congress who were holding off gun show legislation — which would at best register gun owners and at worst close down the shows entirely — were angered when McCain teamed up with Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-CT) and introduced a “compromise” bill to give the issue momentum.
He is being paid to say anything to win the White House.

I’ve never had a squirrel, deer, duck, pheasant, grouse, moose, or other animal ask me if I were a democrat or republican when I shot, they all died just the same. To think that democrats don’t own guns or hunt is ludicrous and stupid. I’ve always believed in the Constitution and the second amendment and believe that the recent Supreme Court decision on gun rights in Washington, D.C. didn’t go far enough and failed to address all the issues. I also know that my rights under the Constitution will be protected now and into perpetuity by the courts no matter what laws are passed by Congress and signed by the President. This issue is a meaningless issue in the Presidential race. I’m a democrat, own 14 guns, licensed to teach firearm safety by the state of Minnesota, approved to teach pistol, shotgun, and rifle by the NRA and I’ll vote for Obama.

I’ve got nothing against hunters or people that want a gun for home or self defense. What is the issue with having to show that you know how to use it and the laws governing its use?

-Obama supports chicago’s restrictive no handguns in homes policies.-
Lets look at McCains gun record.
McCain began speaking out against small, inexpensive handguns and he entertained the idea of supporting the ‘assault weapons’ ban. His flirtation with anti-Second Amendment legislation quickly led to a political marriage of convenience with McKelvey.
Within months of the formation of AGS, McCain was featured in radio and television ads in Colorado and Oregon supporting initiatives to severely regulate gun shows and register gun buyers. Anti-gunners were ecstatic to get McCain on board.
McCain has voted anti-gun much longer than Obama has. And McCain has done anti-NRA campaigns in the past. He’s multifaced.

I engraved firearms for years, and I and my husband aren’t worried. We are Biden supporters who have found ourselves in the Obama camp. Still not worried. We have an assortment of handguns and long guns. Our country has far worse problems than gun control right now, and we certainly don’t need 4 more years of the same people who brought us the Iraq War, tax cuts for the wealthy, and other dim-bulb Bush/Republican ideas.
There may be enough blame to go around for the Wall Street debacle but it has certainly been the Republican’s who have been the movers and shakers behind deregulation. It has been their mantra to get government out of business. It is OK if government is in your bedroom or your personal life or your religious life, as long as it isn’t in your business.

If only Obama/Biden would be as up front and honest about their position on guns as ‘dvine’ is.
The tremdous dishonesty and crafty deceptions Obama spins about guns demonstrates he is an even bigger liar than Bill Clinton. What’s really scary is that Obama seems like a more skillful liar too.

Both hide their head on the sand and pretend everything is fine
An ostrich bury its head in the sand and pretend everything is fine
Republicans do the same and follow McCain
America and the world is suffering with the blunders of Bush Administration
The economy have crumple and the prosperity of many people are under risk not only in America but also worldwide.
John McCain and Sarah Palin promise of change: Is a change to Nowhere
This election is not only about some bridge in Alaska it is about all the bridges and roads in all the o United States because they are all crying out for repairs and maintenance. This is because for the last 8 years the Bush and the Republicans havespent enormous amounts to build up Iraq and they have forgotten about the needs of their own country.

Many newer members of the NRA does not know about the fights we had with McCain, in the past. Only by reminding everyone, that he is trying to do anything he can, including lying and paying people off, can America remember its freedom.
I just hope this message gets to the Battle States, to inform those who are uninformed.
McCains Tycoons are buying the United States of America, by causing fear, with oil prices. His Advisors are the same ones who help President Bush create his ‘phoney oil business’, to launder money for his campaigns. They are McCains deregulators from the 80′s.

2)What would you do, to help support the Law Enforcement, to remove guns from criminals?
Question for McCain and Obama:
What are your current gun control policies, and do you feel you have done enough, to help support the Law Enforcement, to remove guns from criminals?

obama does want to ban guns. It’s in his record. He wants to nationalize the type of gun laws that already put otherwise honest citizens in jail. Have a cartridge in the trunk of your car in New Jersey, go to jail. Have a semiautomatic rifle in California, go to jail. Have a revolver in your sock drawer in Oak Park Illinois, go to jail. What happened in Illinois when the homeowner defended his life from a burgular is true. The homeowner went to jail. That’s the future of America if obama is elected.

I know, I know. But you know, I fear Palin becoming President more than losing gun rights. McCain is an old 72 year old man, and not in the greatest of health, who is already stumbling verbally and being apparently forgetful. I would rather see Obama/Biden elected than run the risk of Palin being President. McCain could very well become mentally incapacitated or die in office giving Palin the presidency. It would be the end of America even if gun rights were retained. Palin is bad news. No, I am not a democrat and yes I support gun ownership. But dang-it, Palin scares the blazes out of me along with her high school graduate husband.

Yes, let’s a have a debate over the pro-gun merits of McCain/Palin vs Obama/Biden. Let the airwaves fill with information, and the campaign provide as much focus as possible. The more light shed the more anti-gun the Obama/Biden ticket is revealed.
Regardless of the other valid issues to decide this election, the question of which side is anti-gun vs which side is pro-gun is not in question. Which is why your stance claiming the McCain/Palin side is more anti-gun is very interesting.
I’ve been following your posts with growing suspicion. Let’s see, out of 111 comments, yours number 21!
You claim to be a republican, ex-NRA member, and hunter from Ohio. I believe you are not.
I am becomming more and more convinced you are posing as all the things you claim as a strategy to fool people. I do believe you are an Obama supporter, that much is true, but I suspect you are actually an anti-gunner working on behalf of some anti-gun organization. From the wide variation in posting styles there may even be more than one person posting under the name “historyforgetten” as part of an astroturf scheme.
The fact is — you seem to know a lot more about anti-gun and anti-McCain talking points then you know about guns, gun laws, or hunting. The problem is your statements have been too schizophrenic on gun law and the NRA in particular to be credible.

foreclosure: The only change Obama knows is the change in his pocket and the change of clothes. But Obama does not like the NRA because he doesn’t like guns. I don’t like the NRA and I don’t like guns either. I do not like the idea of hunting and killing animals. I am a staunch animal lover. I like John McCain and Palin but I wish she would stop her hunting. There is plenty of food at the grocers and these animals want to live too. John Kerry hunts also. He shoots birds.

There are too many gang bangers getting access to guns and killing young kids. And the Englewood neighborhood had killings every week for months. The NRA don’t care about that they care about themselves.

lost sadie: Yes, guns do kill people when the person handling the gun shoots. Where have you been? How many little kids got access to a gun that the parent’s left on a table and shot himself playing with it. The trouble is we don’t have any laws. Its too easy to buy a gun. How about the 32 students that got shot to death. The Tinley Park murders and the Brown’s Chicken murders.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | September 22, 2008, 9:38 pm 9:38 pm

The kids and anyone else who wants a gun can get them easily because our government is swayed by those who feel it is an all or nothing fight to retain the right to own a gun. People come together to remove the ease at which our youth obtain these guns and kill each other, often taking one or more innocent lives in the process. No one needs semi-automatic or automatic weapons to hunt. No one needs bullets to pierce armor. What we need is a sense of caring about your fellow citizens and a desire to live safely without fearing that you will be the innocent victim or the intended victim of someone who cares less then you about life and easily got their hands on a gun, and just as easily, without any hesitation took a life so that they could feel superior to the lifeless person lying in a pool of blood, who only moments ago was full of life.

Know nothing, do nothing and says nothing. He even has to take lessons from an advisor for the debate on September 26 with McCain. There are high school graduates that are ten times smarter than college graduates and many of those students are dropping out because they can’t master the course. Val,
Actually, the Second Amendment applies to individuals; it is not a “collective” right. This has been upheld by numerous court decisions over the past two hundred years. People who read the word “militia” only think of it in our modern context, not realizing that it had a somewhat different meaning when the
Bill of Rights was being written.
If you need more insight into what the Framers meant when the Second Amendment was written you only have to go to their letters, journals, and speeches for edification. These all make it clear that they wanted every single individual to have the right to bear arms; it was not some “collective” right given to the State. In point of fact the entirety of the first ten amendments do not convey rights upon anyone. They were put in place to safeguard rights that THE PEOPLE already held, to prevent the State from passing laws that would abrogate those rights.
Please, go read the first ten amendments again, closely, and you’ll see that this is true. These amendments were added because the PEOPLE of the various states were concerned that their new government might try to limit the freedoms they had just won on the battlefield. Every single one of these pertain to individuals, and their rights; they have nothing to do with the rights of the State and in fact are clearly laid out to restrict and constrain actions of the State.
(By the way, since you appear to be a history buff, spend some time researching just WHY crime appeared to drop after Hitler came to power. I believe you’ll find it most revealing. You’ll especially like the quote from Himmler regarding the confiscation of guns, a step he found necessary since private ownership “doesn’t further the aims of the State.”)

John McCain sponsored an amendment to S. 1805 on March 2, 2004 that would outlaw the private sale of firearms at gun shows. According to GOA, the provision would effectively eliminate gun shows, because every member of an organization sponsoring a gun show could be imprisoned if the organization fails to notify each and every “person who attends the special firearms event of the requirements [under the Brady Law].”
Check out McCains multi-faced mistakes.

Posted by: historyforgotten | September 23, 2008, 12:35 am 12:35 am

McCains gun Policy:
In addition, GOA warns that John McCain supported legislation that would force federal agents to increase efforts in arresting and convicting honest gun owners who may inadvertently violate one of the many federal anti-gun laws, which punish mere technicalities, such as gun possession.
For example, if John McCain’s proposed legislation were to become law, a gun owner who travels with a gun through a school zone or who uses one of the family handguns to go target shooting with a 15-year old could be sent to prison. And a person who uses a gun for self-defense could be sent to prison for a mandatory minimum of five years.
McCain thinks he has blinded the NRA, wrong. They fought him for years, and will continue to forever. Those who remember, will remind the world. McCain is a lier. Vote Independant.

Yeah right i hope thats sarcasm about guns even being a problem right now compared to the economy and our security, haha i love it, NRA is the biggest bunch of nerds that need something to protect them from their own anxieties, yeah lets give them guns thats smart, im telling ya, how dumb can you get? someone tell me why anyone would need anything other then a rifle for hunting??? please im all ears??? because your weak? cant fight? cant debate? so a gun can do your bidding for you right? cowards. NRA is pathetic. Ill always fight for our constitutional rights but for morons to be armed, rifle….all for it. Assault weapons, hand guns, anything of the sort theres no room in society for, if you think otherwise move to the middle east where youll probably last a day.

Say goodbye to that universal health care plan, 700 Billion dollar bailout.
Say goodbye to that tax cut for 95% of working class Americans, 700 Billion dollar bailout.
Say goodbye to Barrack Obama, the only candidate that has benefited from our economy going into the toilet.
What an opportunist. If you really think he has the answers to fix this economy, you are fooling yourself. He doesn’t have answers for anything, he has speeches. He is more like a comedian than he is President. He should go on tour and hit the comic circuit, I am sure he will give all of us Americans a good laugh.
We need a real leader — John McCain.

How does Obama intend to “pay” for all of his fixes? Simple, raise taxes.
Since when is raising taxes not an important issue? Oh, he is going cut taxes for 95% of Americans.
How will businesses compensate for their increased taxes? Oh, increase prices.
Who will pay those increased prices?
Oh, the 95% of Americans who received the tax cut.
Next issue please.

This is nothing new for the NRA.. they’ve been spreading this lie since 1886.

I see the Obama-trons are alive and well. Mindlessly following the “ONE” without thought or question. In case you people don’t get it the one only cares about one, himself. Oh he’ll make sure all his elitist liberal buddies are taken care of, at your expense. Do you want to pay $8 a gallon for gas, have government sticking their nose into every aspect of your life then vote for that fraud. Without a teleprompter he can’t think for himself. 143 days experience does not qualify for President, maybe an upgrade from burgers to fries but not something this important. The little he has done in his short “career” has been to vote against the every day ordinary American. It’s all on record these are NOT lies, but the Obama-trons don’t want to see or hear that, because it would upset their little Utopia. Get your heads out of Hussein’s butt and think for a change. Say what you want McCain will win because this country isn’t liberal.

I only read one comment on here that made sense. The fellow who talked about the first 10 ammendments to the Constitution. People, both McCain and Obama will do harm to those 10 amendments. The do not really care about them. They think that we shouldn’t even have most of them. Lets truly look at what they believe and then look at the independent candidates. It is high time someone other than a Democrat or a Republican was in the White House! Wake up, people! Most of you have Chuck Baldwin on your ballot in Nov. There are a few states whose are unfairly not allowed to vote for him if they so choose. But many of you will have that choice.Lets rock this Country and vote for Chuck Baldwin!

Once again, the non-issues have to come up. Does anyone out there really, honestly and sincerely believe that the government will EVER be able to take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens? I don’t think so. Does anyone out there really, honestly and sincerely believe that women will EVER stop having abortions? I don’t think so. Why do these non-issues keep coming up? So we can be distracted from the real ones.

The right to bear arms does not give one the right to kill indiscriminately. Palin is an example of this menality when she runs wolves with a helicopter until they drop of exhaustion then puts a bullet in the helpless animal and cuts off the left paw to claim her $150 bounty. When will this country evolve out of the bloodlust and primitive male dominance theory archetypes? As a nation we appear to be regressing to a violence dominated society, no thanks to guns. I own a rifle, solely to protect those I love from anarchists who promote aggression…much like some of these posts. Sarah Palin acts more like an angry man than a woman. So how is it that any feminist would even consider voting for her? Hypocrisy is alive and well in the U.S., “Do unto others before they have a chance to do unto you”? Huh??? That’s not the Golden rule! Shame on all of us!…Tona Wanagi

When I read many of the comments here it renews my earnest belief that most voeter haven’t a clue what they are talking about. The current economic situation is the fault of both parties – not just one and it began more than 10 years ago – the congress and regulators bear much of the blame by encouraging (if not coercing) loans to people who could not afford them based on largely on being politically correct. Now the ones who were largely responsible for the conditions leading to this mess are standing in front of microphones with rightous outrage. Guns – Gun ownership is wishy wash supported by Obama but if you read his campaingn postion on guns he is very slick and slight of hand about what he does not say. He will attack gun ownership because it is part of the Democratic platform. Leadership – He has only great words and the belief he can solve “world hunger” through diplomacy – He will not support the soldiers in the field because they are an anathema to him – He refuses to admit the surge in Iraq is working – it is working and will continue to do so. I am ex-military and work with the military now – our returning troops tell “good news” stories about what is happening on the ground in Iraq – something you will never hear in the main steam media. Sorry, but Barack Obama is simply not presidential material – maybe one day he could be – but he is ready for prime time – he looks great and is a great speaker though and could win the college debate team honors for sure. Mr Putin and the President of Iran will eat his lunch because he hasn’t the moral courage or leadership to face down these guys. He will blink first – he knows it and so does the rest of the world. But Europe (who we have had to save twice from tyranny) love him. He will deal with the likes of Hezbolla because he believes he can have an earnest and meaningful discussion with thugs and terrorists. The fact is he is a proven liberal and if elected and he will do what liberals do best – raise taxes to promote what every liberal wants – more government run “feel good” programs to solve “world hunger”, etc. Sadly, I have a feeling he might be elected though because a lot of folks in the “new USA” think socialism is a good thing and that government is the salvation for all of the country’s ills. Insofar as the NRA – sure they are a ultra conservative gun rights lobby organization – but they want to protect the right to gun ownership and there reaction has been to those like Obama and others who think guns are inherently bad and want them banned. Take away guns and you solve violence – same as solving world hunger. No I don’t support armor piercing ammo or a 50 cal. in every home but that said please don’t vote for a guy like Obama who says what you want to hear without really ever saying anything. If you Obama supporters think he is up to test – then I guess you will have to vote for him – but please do so with your fingers crossed. If the media and Hollywood love him so much you might just ask yourself – why?

I have a gun and a bird dog, and I love to hunt but I will NEVER join the NRA. The NRA is more concerned about selling guns than really protecting our 2nd amendment rights. The NRA used all these same adds when Clinton ran for office and did anyone get their guns taken away? NO!!! Its all a big NRA hoax and most numb-skulls are easily fooled to believe it. If the NRA had it their way every high school teacher would have a gun to protect hemselves and their students, anyone who took a concealed weapon course could carry a gun into a School, Church, Hospital, Courthouse, … NRA are true radicals.

The NRA ads are the truth. Although Obama tries to waffle his record of anti-gun, anti 2nd amendment votes his record speaks clearly. Obama is not a friend of the gun owner

Barack Obama is no friend of gun owners and will gladly confiscate any guns he thinks he has the political oppurtunity to. Obama’s rather pathetic attempts to cast himself as a friend to hunters and gun owners are outright lies. Anyways, the second amendment has nothing to do with hunting or “sport” shooting- its about the right of citizens to own guns for protection of their freedoms- which really means firearms designed primarily for military use- Those who think civilians shouldbe limited to “sporting guns” just don’t have a clue

Senator Obama supported the Washington DC gun ban which he later said he knew to be unconstitutional. He still supports a similar ban in Chicago and hails the DC mayor’s efforts to circumvent the Second Amendment and circumvention of the US Supreme Court. … If Obama is willing to circumvent the Second Amendment, how many others? If he is willing to allow the Supreme Court to be ignored this time, what about next time? If he is willing to oppose 73% of the American people, how much democracy is he planning to allow?

Shotgun –
Clinton signed a bill that banned many guns. Sarah Brady and Diane Feinstein said it was the first step to total disarmament. That bill cost the Democrats control of the House and Senate just as Bill Clinton predicted. Apparently it wasn’t what the American people wanted.
Obama is willing to support a total ban of all handguns and repeal of concealed carry laws. BTW: The right to carry a weapon saved my life. Obama doesn’t care about that. He just wants to please Diane Feinstein.

“Way of Life”, it’s more that just a title, it strikes home. My home. My children, my husband, my local road stand farmer, my country neighborhood church, my life. I’d like to thank the NRA and the production company and crew for coming to Michigan, for listening to our people, for showing Americans how we live. We are farmers and CEO’s, we are teachers and blue collared workers. We hunt because it’s a way of life, as it has been for thousands of years. We are real. We live off the family land as our relatives have done for generations past. And we will continue to share these values with our own children, even if it means having my children in a national ad. I’m proud to have had the opportunity to support the NRA because “I’m not bitter, I’m blessed”. Well said Scott!

Some of the people posting don’t get it. It seems to me that the point the NRA (I’m not a member) is making has to with basic freedoms and government regulation. There are plenty of regulations in place, the problem is that only those of us with integrity follow them. Government needs to find ways to enforce current regulations before they create more which are used to raise taxes but nothing changes. I’ve had it with politicans in general but listen carefully to Obama, he is about saying what he needs to say to get elected. It’s not about being liberal or conservative, it’s about being realistic. Obama cannot be trusted. Also, remember Gov’t 101, congress is the law making branch of government. Vote carefully on any congressional races. Don’t just believe what the media says, check out voting records and accountability.

Yesterday afternoon a Philadelphia Police Officer was shot 14 times with an automatic assault rifle. That officer even with a vest did not stand a chance. I need, and I sure that there are others, to have someone explain to me why these type of weapons can’t be banned outright. These rifles appear to be used by thugs that have no regard for human life or the law. After it is explained to me, make sure to let the members of the Philadelphia Police Department know also, they lost a brother yesterday.

Those of you that claim Obama supports the 2nd Ammendment and your RIGHT to defend yourself, you have no leg to stand on. Say whatever you want. You cannot change history or Obama’s past words and deeds:
Fact : Obama has
supported banning
hundreds of rifles
and shotguns
commonly used for
hunting and sport
shooting.
Illinois Senate Debate #3:
Barack Obama vs. Alan Keys 10/21/04
Fact : Obama voted
to allow reckless
lawsuits designed
to put the firearms
industry out of
business.
S.397, vote 219, 7/ 29/ 05
Fact : Obama voted
to ban almost all
rifle ammunition
commonly used for
hunting and sport
shooting.
S.397, vote 217, 7/29/05
Fact : Obama voted to
allow the prosecution
of citizens who use a
firearm for self-defense
in the home.
Illinois Senate, S.B. 2165. 3/25/04
Fact : Obama
supported increasing
taxes on firearms
and ammunition by
500 percent.

Angelo,
I googled the story you referenced. There was nothing about the firearm used, but there was this…
“Giddings had a long criminal record and had recently been released from prison.”
What a surprise. That means that possesing a gun, or even a single bullet was a federal felony for which he could have been sent away for 5 years on each count (each bullet). I would guess that during his long career he probably was arrested with firearms before. However federal gun laws are amost never enforced against criminals, as the feds prefer to let the states charge them with assault, theft, etc. Then they get out and commit crimes again. It would make more sense to try to get the Feds to use the laws already on the books to put real, dangerous criminals away, than to further infringe the rights of law abiding citizens who own scary looking guns.

Debbie –
Allow me to express my condolences to the family, friends, police department and the entire city of Philadelphia. When a good officer is lost, we all suffer the loss.
When heavily armed gunmen robbed a bank in LA California the police were outgunned by illegal weapons. Police were able to arm themselves at a local gun store which was civic minded enough to supply them with AR-15s and ammo. I have personally had to back up a deputy sheriff and I am not the first citizen to do so and will not be the last.
A gun is a tool. Like any other tool it is neither good nor evil. It’s use is purely dependent on the will of the owner.
I have had the unfortunate need to use a gun to defend myself. Not an experience I care to repeat but I am alive to repeat it if I have to.
Again, my sincerest condolences.

Donna, your words were do eloquently stated.
Oonogil, thank you for recognizing them.
And though my children were part of “Way of Life”, I’ve learned a tragic lesson this week. A 17 year old in my school district shot and killed his parents over a cell phone bill. But I can honestly say that our hunting weapons are safe.

1. Obama challenges the 2nd Amendment … The Right To Bear Arms.
2. Obama challenges the 1st Amendment … The right of Free Speech.
Obama pressures all media who accepts NRA advertising.
3. Obama wants a Civil National Security Force … with the same budget as the Pentagon.
So, Obama does not want any opposition, so he stops Freedom of Speech.
Then, to make any opposition defenseless, he wants to take away our right to bear arms.
Next, he wants a Civil National Security force to put down any insurrection.
Sounds like the stepping stones to a leftist dictator taking over this country.

The only member of my family ever shot was gunned down after commiting a murder. As long as the world has evil, I’m keeping my trusty SKS ready. Gun ownership is nothing more than homeland security, and no invading country would ever feel like dealing with 80 million American snipers. I’ve been to Chicago, and being their made me realize how stupid it was that a person could not carry a concealed weapon. I lived in Las Vegas, and wished that the law permitted one to carry concealed without a permit. No way in hell I’d ever live in some neighboorhoods without the firearm of my choice at my disposal in my home. Do you think I should only be allowed pepper spray against a thug twice my size? I saw a group of thugs break into a home a few years ago, and believe me, nothing will stop me from having a gun ready in such an event.
Who knows? I may someday die of a gunshot wound. I even had a scary experience of a gun blowing up on me once. But that pales in comparison of my fear of being disarmed. The second amendment isn’t about hunting- it means I we the people are a militia to defend ourselves, period.
