Obama-Backing Congressman: ‘Jesus Was a Community Organizer, Pontius Pilate a Governor’
Last seen in election 2008 comparing Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., to the villain played by Glenn Close in "Fatal Attraction" — having survived an anti-Semitic primary challenge — Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., feels liberated to come on the House floor and say that "Barack Obama was a community organizer like Jesus…Pontias Pilate was a governor."
Prediction: the Democrats will soon put him in a sack and throw him in a basement.

Oh that’s friggin funny! Yup…throw that crap back at the Republicans! If they can’t manage to have a civil discussion about the issues that will effect everyday Americans lives then they deserve EXACTLY this type of ridicule. This race is NOT about personalities. Its about issues. I want to know the WIIFM about each candidate (Whats In it for me). McCain has NOTHING to offer me but more Bush policies on steroids!

The Republican have overwhelmingly won a contest!
CREW’s 4th annual 20 most corrupt members of Congress has the Republicans beating the Democrats by a huge 14 to 6 margin. And fear not as the Republican bench is strong as they also won dishonorable mentions 3 to 1!
Go Republicans!

Republicans are not not the answer to the problem. They are the problem.
McCain = Bush.

why don’t you go out and spend some time on the south side of Chicago….and see how agitated you become in that community……

I am highly insulted that anyone would even compare Obama to Jesus in any way shape or Form.
Obama has proven he is more the opposite.
Friends gate – He lied to the American People about his friends. numerious times over how he knew them and how long.
Rezko-Gate – Knowing he was under federal investigation got his assistance to buy a house he could not afford. He accepted money for His campaign, then did something shocking, took the 0ver 160 mil dollars and dropped it into His favorite chariites like a hot potato, He did not give it back to the courts to return to the rightful owners, Why not? shows he knows how to launder money.
Bitter Gate – sole the small town americans out to his new wealthy friends.
NAFTA Gate – Lied to the American People, Then went to the Canadian government and told them shhhhh I am lying to the American People.
When you think of Ayers and Rezko and wright etc etc
Mr Obama as the Elimanator in Chicago
The district in Chicago Still waiting on their affordable housing.
All the evil hateful smear obama has launched against all his opponents.
Leading his followers to spread hate and lies and evil, vile attacks.
The man who taught Mr Obama to be a Community Organizer.
Obama was trained by the Saul Alinsky-founded Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) in Chicago. (The Developing Communities Project itself was an affiliate of the Gamaliel Foundation, whose modus operandi for the creation of “a more just and democratic society” is rooted firmly in the Alinsky method.) Alinsky was known for helping to establish the aggressive political tactics that characterized the 1960s and have remained central to all subsequent revolutionary movements in the United States.
In the Alinsky model, “organizing” is a euphemism for “revolution” — a wholesale revolution whose ultimate objective is the systematic acquisition of power by a purportedly oppressed segment of the population, and the radical transformation of America’s social and economic structure. The goal is to foment enough public discontent, moral confusion, and outright chaos to spark the social upheaval that Marx, Engels, and Lenin predicted — a revolution whose foot soldiers view the status quo as fatally flawed and wholly unworthy of salvation. Thus, the theory goes, the people will settle for nothing less than that status quo’s complete collapse — to be followed by the erection of an entirely new system upon its ruins. Toward that end, they will be apt to follow the lead of charismatic radical organizers who project an aura of confidence and vision, and who profess to clearly understand what types of societal “changes” are needed.
But Alinsky’s brand of revolution was not characterized by dramatic, sweeping, overnight transformations of social institutions. As Richard Poe puts it, “Alinsky viewed revolution as a slow, patient process. The trick was to penetrate existing institutions such as churches, unions and political parties.” Alinsky advised organizers and their disciples to quietly, subtly gain influence within the decision-making ranks of these institutions, and to introduce changes from that platform.
For several years, Obama himself taught workshops on the Alinsky method.
Beginning in the mid-1980s, Obama worked with ACORN, a creation of the Alinsky network. ACORN was a grassroots political organization that grew out of George Wiley’s National Welfare Rights Organization (NWRO), whose members in the late 1960s and early 70s had invaded welfare offices

I think the point being missed here by all is the fact that last week the GOP convention made fun of the idea of being a community organizer which is terrible. Simply making fun of Obama or any politician is nothing new in politics. However, by making fun of the institution of volunteering for your community, that makes fun of thousands of people in this country including someone we hold dear in our religious history..Jesus. Would the GOP really want to make of fun of him too? That is the point he was trying to make not say that Obama IS Jesus. Class dismissed.
Posted by: Kyle | September 10, 2008, 3:59 pm 3:59 pm
you knucklehead, the POINT is that ALL COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS are not people to be mocked, as the GOP did. Right before they encouraged people to serve their communities. Which is what a community organizer does. The usual GOP hypocrisy.

The Republican comments on this blog, besides being consistently poorly written with typos and bad grammar, are typically mean-spirited and nasty, just like Sarah Palin at her snidest talking about community organizing. To keep harping on the Ayers and Resko and Jeramiah Wright shows how desperate they are to find something with which to attack Obama. Hey, guys, that’s been done–and there’s no meat there. Voting “present” has also been explained as a voting technique peculiar to Illinois state politics. Why don’t you people just give it up?

When Steve Cohen made the Fatal Attraction comment directed towards Hillary, I was angry enough to want to vote for his opponent. Then, I was so outraged against Nikki Tinker’s ads in the last couple of weeks leading up to the Primary, that I wound up voting for Cohen. Now, once again, I am ashamed that Steve Cohen is my congressman. He has received his last vote from me. Even though it will be an ultimately futile gesture, I will not vote for him in November. I am just sick of him and his mouth.

I never took away the impression that the Republicans were denigrating community organizers. I felt like that were making fun of the Obama campaign’s stressing that his background as a community organizer was one of the primary things that made him qualified to be the President.
If being a successful community organizer is a key qualification for the Presidency, when will Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson be topping a ticket?

According to democrats, being a community organizer qualifies Obama to be president, but being mayor or governor disqualifies Palin to VP. How strange, I thought a mayor and a governor have more responsabilities and obligations. Who of the four candidates have any executive experience? Palin
Posted by: Stephen from Indiana | September 10, 2008, 6:09 pm 6:09 pm
I imagine the Dems will make him a top surrogate…then when anyone takes offense Obama will refuse to apologize and go on the attack.
Dumb strategy….Obama is insisting on taking us to the lowest level of Chicago politics. He doesn’t “get it” it was the voters who were offended.
ABC doesn’t “get it” 1/2 of America are not Obama backing Democrats.

I believe the truth about Pontius Pilate is that he was in fact a Roman Governor. He was Govenor of Judaea from 26 EC to 36 EC.
In this capacity, he was responsible for the execution of Jesus of Nazareth.
Pontius Pilate was actualy sincerely interested in the Jewish culture and did his best to prevent unnecessary violence to this culture.
So, if you check history, Pontius Pilate was a Govenor, who was a community organizer, and an individual who protected his people from harms way.
Sound familiar to the current Republican VP position. Palin in a thousands times better for the United States than Obama could ever hope to be (even in the next 100 years).

Just another example of a Dem who wants to talk about “issues” instead of personal attacks.

It’s strange that repubs want to paint Obama as incapable because he was a “community organizer”, but Palen is capable because she was a governor.
Obama was also a lawyer and a law professor. CONSTITUTIONAL LAW. You know, that really old piece of paper you repubs have been wiping yourselves with for the last 8 years? Yeah that thing. It actually means something to the rest of the country.
Palen has committed every sin that she spewing her pre-written message against. She is the empty suit in this race, and it’s a shame that flyboy is hiding behind her skirt. Maybe he’ll figure out that a presidential campaign really is about issues and not personalities, as his lobbyist campaign boss put it. Until then, they are both shams and don’t deserve the office.
Oh yeah, heard about John’s biggest bundler. Try a google search, if you can use the google, and look up McCain Keating Bundler. Yep, you got it. Your boy McCain has gone back to the same old well. Taking 5 million from Keating. Yeah, you know, of keating 5 fame? Again betraying the very things he’s built his political career on.
Where are your mavericks now?
Posted by: landlocked | September 10, 2008, 11:36 pm 11:36 pm
I get so sick of listening to Palen whining incessantly. Every time she speaks it sounds like the McKenzie Brothers. Ya hoser, eh! Want another beer, eh!
Calling Rick Warren to get prayer material because she’s so distraught at all the mean people. Get used to it. That’s life on the big stage.
Posted by: landlocked | September 10, 2008, 11:41 pm 11:41 pm
Another funny fact, John Mac was a “community organizer” when he was in a POW camp, so I guess by the repubs logic he isn’t fit for the office either.

“Community” and “organizer” are such vague words that “community organizer” could mean a lot of things, depending on how you want to define it. It isn’t the same thing as “community service” and in Obama’s case, it is tied up with leftist movements, including Saul Alinsky’s, the Saul Alinsky who dedicated one of his books to Lucifer, “the very first radical.”

Obama 08!

The Repubs are trying to put this apin on him to include him with in with “professional activists ” like Al S. , Jesse J. SR etc whose agenda is ultimately about gaining power and money mostly for themselves not the causes the the pretend to advocate for . Obama is not one of them .

With regards to Democratic Representive
Steve Cohen’s remark that “Jesus Christ
was a Community Organizer, and Pontius Pilate was a governor”, it would clearly behoove Rep. Cohen to read and become familiar with the New Testament in order to avoid making stupid statements.
Christ never involved himself in politics, jobs, or organizations. His
only committee consisted of His Apostles, and dedicated believers.
Although He advocated giving to the “poor”, He was advising us to “lay up treasures in Heaven” with “acts of kindness”, having nothing to do with Community Organizations. Jesus came only to show His “Plan for Salvation”.
Posted by: Claude Gray | September 11, 2008, 11:30 am 11:30 am
Rep.Steve Cohen should be talking about the mundane Kingdom he knows. He should live Christ the Son of God ,The Messiah in peace in His Father heavenly abode. Lately God and Jesus are becoming very handy for certain political personalities.

Didnt mccain call on people to serve the community or country in his convention speech HIPOCRITE CALLING ON PEOPLE TO DO COMMUNITY SERVICE THEN MOCKING AND BASHING OBAMA FOR IT THAT MAN AND THE GOP ARE VERY SAD BEINGS!
Posted by: angie | September 11, 2008, 12:46 pm 12:46 pm
I’m personally offended as a person, not just a Christian, that anyone would compare Obama to Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was not interested in power unlike Mr. Obama. Maybe Mr. Cohen, and the others that have used this analogy should read and try to understand the Bible before they make political reference to it-and these are people that so want to seperate church and state!
Posted by: Janie | September 11, 2008, 2:49 pm 2:49 pm
Bill Clinton was a Governor. He was also President. I guess Governors DO know more than community organizers. Wht the hell is a community organizer? Has Obama/Jesus ever explained exactly it is he did as a community organizer?
Posted by: CATHY | September 11, 2008, 3:23 pm 3:23 pm
So you didn’t like my explaination as to what a community organizer might be.
Someone who hangs out with Bill Ayers for 20 years thinking of new reasons to hate America… What’s wrong with that?

It’s scaring you all think Obama is the next Jesus Christ and the Fixer of all things bad. Without bashing Republicans go back 2 years and see what Obama’s views were and what they are now. See how many issues he has changed on. Then see how many actually match up to those in the middle of the road and are more of the same.. You will learn he is at best a great speaker and panderer of those who want to believe he is the second coming. I am FAR from a McCain fan but I can believe he is looking out for what is good for this country and not looking to make it the next European alliance
Posted by: bill | September 11, 2008, 3:48 pm 3:48 pm
The Democrats–bless their little hearts–are grasping at straws here. They have become what they most despised about Republicans.
To suggest that Obama is the Messiah sure puts religion at the forefront. I thought that was a no-no with liberals. But then again, since Obama has no other qualification, he best be Jesus or he doesn’t stand a chance at winning the election, but more importantly, running the US effectively.
I swear this is the screwiest election ever.
The Democrats are now a parody of themselves.
Someone wake me up from this nightmare.
Posted by: marisa | September 11, 2008, 5:03 pm 5:03 pm
I wonder how Obama is explaining this to all of the governors who support him?
If someone has the time (and I’m sure it won’t take long) can someone explain to me why Obama is qualified to be President?
Obama supporters should read his books. He discusses his failures as a community organizer. Jeez. He couldn’t even organize a tiny suburb of Chicago, and now he wants to run the US.
Certainly he must be kidding?
Posted by: brandy | September 11, 2008, 5:07 pm 5:07 pm
Jake,
I keep seeing posts at various sites describing McCain’s poor class rank. So I was curious what Obama’s class ranks were at Columbia and Harvard Law, but no information seems to exist in the public sphere. Considering Biden’s prior false claims about his own class rank, wouldn’t it be worth considering asking the Obama campaign to release Obama’s transcripts from college and law school? It should resolve several open questions.
Posted by: A3k | September 11, 2008, 6:34 pm 6:34 pm
Jesus was never a community organizer. Community organizers go out and gather the people. Jesus would simply show up and the people would start following Him.
He never organized a community.

In taking this comparison to the next level…here’s hoping that Governor Palin can crucify the dems “messiah” in the voting booths in November
Posted by: Kellan | September 13, 2008, 2:21 am 2:21 am
To A3K, who asked about John McCain’s low rank at the Naval Academy.
John McCain graduated near the bottom of his class, but he did graduate. The Naval Academy is not your average college; the standards (academic and behavior) are VERY high and you can get thrown out for not meeting them.
BTW, Jimmy Carter graduated near the top of his class from the Naval Academy, so I don’t think someone’s rank at this fine institution tells us much.

The disturbing thought is that our country has stooped to the lowest point ever. When a political group has the gall to compare their candidate to Jesus Christ (also in a way that is untruthful and inaccurate at that), it is a sad day in America. May God’s will prevail in this country and may the lessons we need to learn be taught to us. Starting with being humble servants to our country and each other. Stop your bragging, you have nothing to brag about. Just be quiet and tell what you can do or have done. It’s not about Jesus running for office it’s about you. What have you done lately? Are you a strong leader that makes good decisions? Was your very first major decision a mistake? (Biden)
