Obama Doesn’t Believe Polls Showing Women Voters Flocking to McCain-Palin

At a press availability this afternoon in Dayton, Ohio, ABC News asked Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., if — given the recent 20-point swing among white women towards Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll — he feels the addition of Gov. Sarah Palin to the GOP ticket has attracted women specifically because of her gender, whether Obama regrets not naming a woman to his ticket as his running mate, and what he can do to woo those women voters back?

First, Obama expressed skepticism about the poll.

"You know I just think that the notion that people are swinging back and forth in the span of a few weeks, or a few days, this wildly generally isn’t borne out," Obama said. "These are the same polls that had me 20 down last Summer that have swung wildly throughout this process."

Second, Obama said Palin had attracted a lot of attention and, among conservatives, excitement — but he didn’t think gender played factor.

"There is no doubt that Gov. Palin attracted a lot of attention this week," Obama said. "She’s been on the minds of all of you, and as a consequence has been before the American people constantly throughout the week, and has brought excitement to the Republican party, there is no doubt about that."

Obama said the race is far from over, and that issues would ultimately beat out personality.

"I think that what we’re going to have to do is see how things settle out over the next few weeks when people start examining who is actually going got deliver on the issues that people care about," Obama said. "You know, who’s got an education plan that is going to improve the prospects for our children? Who’s got a health care plan that is going to help a whole bunch of women out there who don’t have health insurance? Who is better equipped to change the economy so that the average person who is working hard feels like they can get ahead and see their incomes rise? Ultimately those are the issues that I think are going to make the biggest difference in this race.

"But there is no doubt that you know the Republicans are excited particularly the right wing of the party is excited by Senator — or Governor Palin’s choice," Obama said. "I think that has less to go with gender than it has to do with her ideological predispositions, which are closely aligned to theirs."

Obama did not address the question about whether he regrets not naming a woman running mate.

I don’t either
women aren’t that stupid.
and Palin is a trojan horse.

Honestly, I am skeptical about this also. I know of no women that are changing their minds about Obama and voting for McCain because of Palin. I am president of a women’s business group, belong to my local Rotary club and have 4 sisters and I can tell you that I have not heard one positive thing about Palin. I suspect that these women were going to vote for McCain anyway.

Poll, you mean Jake.
This is just an issue ABC is using to pump up enthusiasm for the puff interview Charley has with Palin.

This woman is voting for Obama. We are at war and the economy is failing, yet the GOP picks an unqualified VP to run with a 72 year old man. GOP=STUPID

You are the one in denial. The news media likes to keep up the controversy, but intelligent woman are not voting for McCain/Palin.

Women gravititing towards Palin, progressives gravitating towards Obama, people with brains and knowledge of fiscal responsibility gravitating towards Ron Paul. Only November will tell.

nothing to do with stupidty. It’s quite plausible that moderate Republican women who might have fallen into an anti-Bush/no McCain/vote for Dems (or don’t vote at all) have been satisfied w/Palin on the ticket as someone who can represent their views, and are now falling in behind McCain. Politics, like life, is complicated and makes little sense except in the rear view.

Posted by: Dev | September 9, 2008, 12:56 pm 12:56 pm

Palin is one heartbeat away from being our president and that scares the hell out of me. This choice was clearly a political move from the republicans. And anyone wearing a political button stating “our VP is hot” is an insult to every female out there!!!

is he that delusional or ill-informed about the power he seeks?

I believe Obama is still in the lead. Funny how the Republicans are screaming “change” and Bush is pulling troops out of Iraq and deploying more to Afghanistan. No, I dont believe the polls show McCain ahead, even he and Bush are for Obama.

Posted by: Amanda | September 9, 2008, 12:59 pm 12:59 pm

millions of people were stupid enough to choose obama over Clinton, why is it so hard to believe that many aren’t stupid enough to vote for palin simply because she is a woman?

Posted by: chris | September 9, 2008, 12:59 pm 12:59 pm

Well you libs can deny that there are many women who are not hog-tied by Pro-choice only thought patterns. Fact is Gov palin is opening doors for all women, regardless of thier specific beliefs. I am purplexed by the libs alwasy pushing that women should have both a career and family, should be able to go toe-to-toe with the good ole boys, should choose for herself what interests she pursues, but when applied to Palin, the libs say she should stay at home and take care of her kids, and that her stance on abortion should scare away all women – I guess the libs feel that only women who have a liberal view of the world should be liberated – what a double standard. Seems the liberals are more concerned with votes than really elevating women.

Posted by: johr | September 9, 2008, 12:59 pm 12:59 pm

I agree with Obama. The polling is simply picking up the excitement among conservative women, as before they would simply hang-up on calls from pollsters now they are answering them. But all the women I know who voted for Clinton realize that Palin would absolutely destroy what she has worked for. Once the excitement wears off and the country sees that Palin is lieing through her teeth about reforms and experience, then the polls will return to Obama up by 3-5%.

It is what it is. It’s just one poll, but don’t believe for a minute that the BFO (Fitzgerald) campaign isn’t doing their own polling with this demographic. The 20% number seems inflated but even if BFO loses just 5% of his female support in 5 or 6 battleground states it could spell doom. You can bet he’s worried about that.

Posted by: Woody | September 9, 2008, 1:03 pm 1:03 pm

I am another woman that will vote for McCain because of Palin. I had already decided that to vote for Obama was not an option so I either would not vote or I would vote for McCain. I was waiting to see his running mate and I am quite satisfied. I disagree with alot of you in that most of the women I speak with (and Palin has caused alot of buzz around here) will vote against Obama by voting for McCain because of Palin.

Posted by: Voting for McCain because of Palin | September 9, 2008, 1:03 pm 1:03 pm

if we have learned anything over the last 8 years, it is that voters are generally ignorant people who vote for personality rather than competence and leadership…..that is why we’ve had dubya, that is why obama won over Clinton, and that is why palin is getting so much enthusiasm….

I don’t think that many women or any other voter is really on the McCain/Palin ticket as being projected. I think the GOP is just making as much noise about this Palin woman to try and make it seem like she is getting them the push they need. Yes, she may have brought some over but not a whole lot like the polls are assuming. Now, if the media keeps taunting this story then yeah, folks will start to believe and many more may gravitate that way but if they are smart and want true change, then the majority of American voters will stay far away from the McCain/Palin ticket.

Joanne – wants to pick an Very Unqualified Obama to be President at this dangerous time. I guess being a socialist community organizer gives you more experience then being a successful Governor.
For those who hire people would you hire someone that gives in a resume stating his experience is that of being a community organizer and sending in the resume over someone that is an executive , ran a national guard, cleaned up government and so forth? If you say community organizer, your a drone and your company will not make it.
Also what is a community organizer the organizer around my town just sets up the yearly sidewalk sale.
Drew – Do not believe the garbage you read
Jake still no posting on whether Obama can be president, look up
See Pennsylvania Democrats – Barack Obama was born in Kenya in 1961 to an American woman, Stanley Ann Dunham, and a Kenyan man, Barack Hussein Obama Senior, as reportedly shown by a birth certificate from Mombasa Maternity Hospital and witnessed by Barack’s relatives. According to the law at that time, a parent could pass US citizenship on to a child born abroad if the parent was at least 19 years old. Obama’s mother was only 18.
No hospital birth certificate has been produced to prove Obama was born in Hawaii, only a certificate of birth registry after the fact, which forensics experts have denounced as a forgery. New photos of the certificate were posted on the Internet on Aug. 21st at FactCheck, which is a project of the Annenberg Center, a longtime sponsor of Obama. It is quite suspicious in itself that the “facts” are not being “checked” by an independent source, and that only a short-form certificate without the name of the hospital is shown. Barack’s mother could have flown from Kenya to Hawaii right after the birth, then reported that she had the child at home, in order to secure her son’s US citizenship. The judge needs to subpoena Hawaiian officials to provide an original hospital report of birth.
Moreover, when Obama was six years old his mother remarried and moved with her husband to his country, Indonesia. Records indicate Obama was naturalized as an Indonesian citizen. Indonesia does not allow dual nationality, so even had he been born in Hawaii, he would have lost his citizenship then.

Must be women pollsters. We all know Obama calls professional women “sweetie”, pays his female staff considerably less than McCain pays his female staffers, and the way he treated Hillary — come on. The pollsters were mere women, maybe some were not from Chicago or NY or DC, which makes them insignificant.

With all the attention Hillary Clinton had received, and now Palin, he not only is a sexist, but attacks anyone who “steals” the limelight away from him.
Obama stubbles and fumbles when he tries to speak one on one; the only thing Obama had ever going for him, he reads the teleprompter.

Any woman who states proudly that she is voting for McBush because of Palin is as ignorant as McBush thought. That is why he put Palin on the ticket because he knew that same women are ignorant enough to vote for Palin JUST because she is a woman. Dont think about the fact that she is going to take way a woman’s right to choose even in the case of rape or incest. McCain thinks women are STUPID and by reading these comments I’m starting to think that he is RIGHT!

If Hillary supporters are voting on the issues, then they are voting for Obama. If they are voting simply because they have the same reproductive parts, then they will go for McCain. My God, she doesn’t even support abortion in cases of rape and incest. Tell a woman who has been violently raped that she now has no say in her own body for the next nine months. Usually when a news poll is showing one trend, Obama’s campaign pipes right up and says “Oh, our polls are showing something different….”
That doesn’t appear to be what he is saying on this occasion.
Maybe their polls aren’t showing something different this time, it’s just the fact that HE CAN’T BELIEVE IT!

My serious concern is that Palin honestly believes attacking Iraq was part of “God’s plan”. I thought that starting war in the name of God was limited to radical Islamic terrorists? What is happening to religion in the world? I implore everyone to think carefully about this topic. God does NOT have war in his plans for us, and we all knows this deep down in our hearts.
Furthermore, what if Palin suddenly decides that nuclear war is part of “God’s plan”, as she sits there 5 feet away from the ‘red button’? What will happen then?
Here is what Palin should do. She should run for Ted Stevens Alaska US Senate seat. Her and John McCain can do their reform thing as two high ranking US Senators. Let them prove themselves for 4, 6, 8 years. If they do what they say they can do, then they’ll be shoe-ins for the 2012 or 2016 election.

What some of you do not seem to understand, is that elections are not decided by the left OR by the right, but by the middle … and the middle likes Sarah Palin. They like her because she’s got a good VALUE SYSTEM. Having a good value system matters to the middle more than having an Ivy League degree.
You are only starting to see the beginning of the McCain surge in the polls … and you are scared (and we know it).
VALUES MATTER … not to you, but to the middle.
The more you bash her, the more out of touch with the middle you appear (you know that as well, but just can’t help yourself).

Using your logic, shouldn’t Obama then stay in the state government for 4, 6, or 8 years, get some experience and then run in 2012 or 2016.
I don’t understand how people can question Sarah Palin’s experience to be VP, when they have a candidate with LESS experience running for the TOP spot! Funny how people can’t put 2 strings of logic together (not necessarily referring to the person I quoted below).

Why is it that the Obamabots think experience is important when it comes to the Republican VICE president, but they don’t expect their own candidate for PRESIDENT to have any real experience? You people are really living in some kind of alternate universe.

Ask your self if (God forbid) 70 year old McCain passes away while being President, Do you want a person whos beliefs are so out of touch with most of US in Charge of the country? It is a disaster waiting to happen. And this is more of the same… Republicans saying “The Media slanted to Democrats.” Come on get real. Media is bought and paid for by big money. Those people want to stay in power and will do anything to do so…
Give us a break and elect a person who stands for real change.

Obama’s words are lies and fantasies.
Look what he DID to women.
1. Used expensive advertisment to defeat a woman (Clinton) in the primaries. Clinton is now over $20M in debt.
2. Did not even vet a dem 14 million votes women for the VP ticket.
3. Demands the same women to campaign for himself and Biden.
As far as that women is concerned, Obama gives he “more work NO PAY”.
He talks about “equal work for equal pay” for women and is in denial that he hurt women.
WOMEN aren’t that stupid to vote for Obama who is and will always ill treat one of them.

Women aren’t flocking to Palin because she’s a woman. Everyone is flocking to the McCain / Palin ticket because the Democratic Party faithful said that Palin isn’t qualified. Since she’s more qualified than Obama he must not be qualified either. Sorry Obama, your own people did it to you. That and your position on issues and let us not forget Rev Wright.

I am thrilled that a woman of God will be in power. I am thrilled that someone is going to clean up our libraries and get rid of all the non-christian based books. Do animals need sex ed? NO, so why should we teach it to our children. Palin will bring america back to freedom.

Posted by: Esther | September 9, 2008, 1:26 pm 1:26 pm

Oh yes they are. I know many women, myself included, who were leaning towards McCain and the choice of Palin just put them into the for sure category.
Do you realize that the democratic leader of the Senate majority, Harry Reid, is pro-life? If we want to discuss Palin’s religion, I think we should discuss Obama’s black liberation theology for 20 years. Palin has executive experience, albeit not a lot, but it is certainly more than Obama has. Apparently, what little experience she has has been very well received.

Not once has Senator Obama rejected the teachings of the Black Liberation Theology Church that believes that BACKS are the CHOSEN PROPLE or that racism and hate are right. Not one time has he said the actions of Bill Ayers were wrong. Not one time has he stated that the crimes of Tony Rezko was wrong. He was even doing business with him after he knew Rezko was being investigated. Rezko cheated taxpayers and banks out of $100 million dollars with his schemes and Obama benefited.
Considering all these lack of judgment happening and his lack of real experience, one can only conclude he is not fit to be President. Having a loud mouth is not enough. He was screeching yesterday while campaigning. He is losing it.

Posted by: dl | September 9, 2008, 1:28 pm 1:28 pm

I agree with Obama. I believe people are not going to switch their mind so quickly without knowing the person, for a big choice like selecting US President. What do we know about Palin? Not really. Yes, there has been thousands of news and gossips around her for the last 2 weeks, so many that no one knows what is the truth. I am so lost who advocates for what, because each party is bashing each other saying they are lying. I am sure once the debates happen, then, we will see clearly what are the differences of policies between these two camps. Then, people will finally make their real mind. So it can swing either way at that point.
As a Hillary supporter, I am not happy with either. I want to see a truthful, honest, warm support to women from Obama. When he talks about what matters to women, it never sounds authentic. I hope he improves his understanding of middle class working women with kids and shows a bit more empathy to us. We all agree with his policies, we just want him to talk to us and appeal to us. The way he speaks in this video again shows he just does not get it. Having said that, I do not think McCain does either.

Hey Cincy, my definition of extremist is this: views that are way out of step with the American people (e.g. abortion not allowed even in cases of rape and incest, banning books from libraries, not teaching sex ed to kids, etc.), views that mix religion and politics (Irag is “God’s war”, attacks on Israelis are God’s retribution). I would also classify as extreme, the tactic of positioning yourself as a reformer “maverick” when the facts show something completely different.

Why is Nobama all of a sudden sporting a flag pin?
Here was Nobama in Oct. 2007:
“You know, the truth is that right after 9/11, I had a pin,” Obama said. “Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we’re talking about the Iraq War, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won’t wear that pin on my chest.
“Instead,” he said, “I’m going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism.”
What a phony.
Nobama, the American people see through your insincerity.

Obama can’t lose what he’s never had. Women as a voting block are the Achilles heel for Obama. They supported Hillary in large numbers throughout the primary season. When Hillary exited the race, women chosen other candidates like Green Party McKinney or McCain/Palin.
Obama has continued to fail in winning women voters and McCain/Palin are reaping the benefit of Obama’s failure.

According to Obama, Bush and the military are all taking advice from Obama. Obama doesn’t get it that the troops are being shifted because of the conditions on the ground, not because of a timetable that Obama put forth. Or he understand perfectly, and just wants to keep fooling people into believing that he is the only person in the world who knows what to do. Do you believe the arrogance of the man? The world simply does not revolve around Obama and he isn’t mature enough to realize that yet.

Obama has not got a clue what women want. Hint: It wasn’t Biden.
Let the Washington insiders like Kerry, Dodd, and Biden vote for Obama. They all deserve each other. Obama doesn’t care about women’s opinions or role in his government.
There’s no other role for women. Daily Kos [which Obama lists on Google Reader as his top news source] attacked Palin’s maternity.

Posted by: Grace | September 9, 2008, 1:34 pm 1:34 pm

Even though I am for Obama/Biden 100%, if these Repugnant-cans can get themselves elected and re-elected, that’s okay. This is a Democracy, right? THEN in 2016 when this country is in even worse shape than it is now and these two say they can and WILL “clean up” everything, then I want to see them do it. When they don’t, they had BEST be prepared to admit just how WRONG they were to begin with and not misplace blame!
Do you know that Gov Palin thinks our fore-fathers wrote and enacted our Nation’s Pledge of Allegiance AS IS? See her response to a questionnnaire during the Alaska Gov Race, when asked a question about our Pledge.
I guess during all her college-hopping days, she didn’t spend enough time in class!

Someone said:
“Palin has executive experience and proven capability to get the job done. ”
True
“Not just words, but actions too. I supported Hillary, and now support McCain/Palin, because McCain is a stronger and better proven leader.”
Yes, McCain is a leader. But in the wrong direction. The exact opposite direction of Hillary. The last time I checked most people thought Obama was a heckuva leader too.
“We are voting for who is president and ready to lead Day 1, more than the VP candidate.”
True. Why then would you vote for McCain!!! He is going to destroy the economy. He wants to fight a war while lowering taxes!! There is no free lunch (only economic peril).
“Yet, Obama keeps trying to compare himself with the VP Palin’s qualifications and experience, and he doesn’t quite measure-up to her, let alone to McCain.”
That is debatable. But look, your whole premise that “experience = good president” is not justified. Abraham Lincoln, arguably the greatest President ever, had no experience in the Senate or as Governor. No he was a uniter and lead the country through the toughest stretch ever!
Ronald Reagan ran against candidates with more experience and wartime experience TWICE! While I didn’t think he was a great President, most people love him.
So where does this argument that Obama doesn’t have enough experience come from? I realize that Obama is a unique candidate (in many ways), but don’t be afraid. Take your fear swallow it, look at the policy proposals, and I am sure you will vote with Barack Obama as the next President of the United States.

Come on, Republicans love nothing more than a good ol’ bully. She’s just a mean cheerleader like the ones that ruled high school. Are you kidding me. Obama has experience enough and can think things trough and lead. Any numbnuts can run a state in the ground, raise taxes to get things done like Palin did. Her experience don’t count the years, examine the results. It’s easy to back a bully. That’s what Reps do. Obama and Biden need to put McCain and Palin in their places. Time to kick ass and take names Dems.

Posted by: Kathy | September 9, 2008, 1:35 pm 1:35 pm

I don’t put much stock in polls either. 20% in such a short period of time is certainly questionable. However, if democrats think that Palin has not had a significant impact on not only women, but conservatives as well, they will have a rude awakening. I’m not sure where some of you live or in what circles you travel, but women that I am acquainted with are thrilled with her nomination. I don’t think that Palin will have the impact on the female vote that Obama has had on the African-American vote, but she definately has had a positive impact on McCain’s candidacy.

Seriously, does anyone believe the polls, whoever they show on top?
According to the Polls, after the Dem Convention, people flocked to Obama. After the GOP Convention, people flocked to McCain.
So, who are these people that go back & forth, every few days?
The undecideds remain generally the same… so, it seems there’s a bunch of people, that keep going back & forth.
If these people will decide the election, we’re in a bigger mess than I thought.
But, generally, I suspect many people are waiting for the debates. And judging by the questions in previous debates, this election cycle, I suspect McCain will win the debates, since the questions are generally, framed from a GOP view.
And if ya don’t understand what I mean, about how the questions are framed, all you had to see was this weekend’s talk shows.
Obama was asked, *why don’t you just admit you were wrong about the surge?* McCain will never be asked, *why don’t you just admit, you were wrong about invading Iraq?*
Obama will always be on the defensive, while McCain will always be agreeing with the questioner, since the questions address GOP talking points.
If you’re honest, and pay attention, you’ll see what I mean.

Thinking said: NO true Hillary supporter would shame herself voting for Palin
I find it very interesting that the women that the DNC spurned are falling all over themselves to smear Sarah Palin, who is an embodiment of what they have been speaking about: strong women, successful women.
You all remind me of the classic abused woman. You refuse to admit the truth, rather defend your abuser, sometimes to the death.
IF Obama had picked Hillary, how different this election would be. But Obama didn’t have the guts to put a woman on his ticket, instead he went with traditional cronyism, WHICH IS NOT CHANGE!

Posted by: Tiger184 | September 9, 2008, 1:36 pm 1:36 pm

What made me switch to Obama? The equal pay issue. John McCAin has never supported legislation that would guarantee we have equal pay for equal work. Period.
When I heard the story of the postal worker from Alabama at the DNC, I was moved to tears. I know so many people who suffered the same fate. Hell, I’ve been working at the same place for 5 years, and I have no idea what others make. But if I’m making less for being a woman, it’s too late. The 180-day limit that McCain supports has already passed.

Once Palin and McSame are in office I cannot wait for another war, more financial failure, higher taxes and a continuation of the same ‘I am proud of all of you’ comments while their personal coffers overfill with oil money.
It is amazing that citizens of this country are so profoundly inept and stupid. Common sense is so rare in America it is a super-power. Why do we want a conservative base that is completly opposite of that the Constitution and government is supposed to do for we, the people? A governor who just got her passport two years ago is not ‘wordly’ by any stretch. McCain continues to run on being a POW. He is 72 and is clinically insane. His wife has more money than us combined on this comment blog thing and people are supporting him.
I am especially perplexed after 8 years in the military why anyone in their own good mind would vote for Palin and McCain. They honestly believe the American people are stupid. They are liars, cheats, swindlers and completely incompetent for the job.

I hope women both working and stay at home moms take a closer look at her and see what she stands for. Her preaching does not make sense regarding Jews and the war. McCain made the wrong choice what is she going to do for us women–nothing. McCain is just using her to get votes because the GPO is not talking about the real issues and they are shielding her from the media and real questions. People are quoting this poll religiously. It’s one poll. The other polls that have come out have not shown such a strong shift among female voters. Furthermore, the poll of women voters may be dubious, because it’s a” poll within a poll.” If this was specifically a poll of white women, then it would be seen as more accurate. Instead, it’s an analysis of a subset (a demographic or specific angle in a poll). Whenever you get into looking at subsets, and any pollster will tell you this, your error rate goes up. So, where the original poll may have a margin of error (MOE) of +/- 2 or 3 points. The subset could have a MOE of +/- 8 points, 12 points, 15 points… This poll didn’t specify what the MOE is for the women voters subset, so we don’t know what it is. Without knowing that, one can’t say absolutely that there was a “20 point shift”. It’s simply probably not true, because of the error. And again, other polls haven’t shown a shift this dramatic. I encourage everyone to tead up on polling if you really want to understand how this stuff works. It’s not as simple as the media presents it to the public. Honestly, I don’t think most of them even understand it, which is funny, since they’re ALWAYS talking about what this poll and that poll says. Have a good day!

I am sorely disappointed by the total lack of any intellectual discussion of any issues that matter to this country. Why in the world would anyone want a president that is just like them? I want someone that is a whole lot smarter and more talented than me, and I am no slouch. Folks, this is not the Yankees versus the Red Sox. If we want to compete against the Chinese and all sorts of other countries out there that are trying to clean our clocks, we need the most talented leaders out there, not someone who just so happens to think like me. If we keep bickering over nonsense, then we are going to become a third rate country and all look back some day and say what happened?

Some of the comments on this site are really terrifying. I always knew such ignorance existed but the venom is certainly a surprise.
In all the time Obama has been campaigning, I have never heard a hate filled nasty word come out of his mouth. He has always been professional, highly articulate, intelligent, thoughtful, decent and not afraid to stand his ground. Those who say these horrible things see what they need to see in order to justify their ignorance.
I am a republican, who will vote for Barack Obama for one reason and one reason only, its really quite simple… for those who are not racists, bigots and have half a brain.
IF YOU LIKE THE WAY THINGS IN THIS COUNTRY HAVE GONE FOR THE LAST 8 YEARS, THEN MCCAIN IS YOUR CANDIDATE.
BUT…IF YOU DON’T LIKE THE WAY THE ECONOMY HAS GONE OR OUR COUNTRY’S STANDING IN THE WORLD, IF YOU KNOW IN YOUR GUT THAT THE REPUBLICANS HAVE RUN THIS COUNTRY INTO THE GROUND AND LEFT US (ESPECIALLY THE MIDDLE CLASS) IN AN ECONOMIC MESS…IF YOU DON’T WANT MORE OF THE SAME, THEN VOTE FOR OBAMA.
Very simple, in the past 6 years my income has remained the same and everything else has gone up significantly. My 20 year old can’t afford college and I can’t afford to send him. I can’t afford medical coverage for him nor he for himself. I JUST CAN’T TAKE ANOTHER 4 YEARS OF REPUBLICAN B.S. and their ugly, hateful, viciouosness.

Anne – in what WORLD does Sarah Palin have more experience than Barack Obama? I’m an independent so I will decide who gets my vote when I hear more from candidates but Palin was a mayor of a city of 6,000 people, 85% of which were white. Barack Obama was a community organizer in a city of 3 MILLION. While Sarah Palin would like to continue her sarcasm about how that doesn’t matter because it wasn’t “real job responsibilites”, the differences are stark… Maybe if she opened her mouth to grant a press interview or take a single question we’d know what she has to offer. But right now all we have are some well-crafted speeches and her parading her family (including her baby) around like some kind of show & tell. Until I can hear whether she can articulate an answer to really hard, tough questions, she gets NOTHING from me – certainly no respect until its EARNED.

Abortion isn’t the BIG issue this year….This year there are far more important issues to be voting on. Abortion essentially won the loser that’s currently leading our country in his seat for the past 3.5 years. People there are far more important issues on the table and at stake. Do you want more of what we have been fed for the past 8 years? I know I sure don’t. I’m not big on abortion, but I know I would want that option and I would want that option for my daughter should she or I are ever be faced with a horrible situation where it’s warranted. I am however big on freedom and a more profitable economy, not one where people and families are holding onto strings just to get by – all the while losing their homes and watching prices of essentials grow higher and higher. And also watching or military men and women coming home in boxes and for what??? This election there are far bigger issues than abortion. Everyone needs to open their eyes. Also, I for one do not want to give my vote to a man who cheated on his disabled wife for 4 years. No thanks. Personal integrity speaks volumes about persons leadership abilities

Voting for Palin just because she’s a woman is just plain ignorant!
Never mind that kids won’t be able to afford to go to college, never mind millions of americans are dying because they can not afford healthcare, never mind, victimizing the rape and incest victims a 2nd time by forcing them to carry the assailants child to term. Never mind that Mccains tax plan clearly benefits the rich. Never mind that many, many, families have fallen prey to the mortgage companies being given card blanche to manipulate them and ultimately costing them their homes. Never mind the poor man or woman that falls within that 61% of unemployment statistic.
Although I’ve been fortunately not be personally impacted by any of the about, it’s those people that matter to me. My children and your children matter to me. My grandchildren and your grandchildren matter to me.
This is not a game! Please vote for the right reasons. Not for rleigion, race ,gender or otherwise. Educate yourselves and vote on the issues.

Palin is no Hillary! I don’t care what anyone says. I don’t see what all the fuss is about. Wait until Palin is interviewed by the media and asked about her record on the bridge to nowhere and pork barrel spending. And better yet, the debate!! Can’t wait to see it all fall to pieces for the Repubs!

Randy — Obama put his career before his kids. He barely sees them. But I guess that’s ok. He’s a man.

Posted by: Angry Black Democrat | September 9, 2008, 1:43 pm 1:43 pm

I watched this interview and Obama seem to be quite off his game. I can’t believe he has lost all of his splash so quickly after all of this lavish media and liberal support. Why is he focusing on Sarah Palin so much. Shouldn’t he be concerned more about John McCain. I can understand the media asking him about the first woman candidate being on the republican ticket. He just thought it made the right wing happy but she’s added more than that so it made him look weak and troubled. She has made reforms and listened to the people in her state. It’s great they lead her not her doing what she wanted by forcing her ideas on them.

Tiger184,
Let me tell you about Democrats. If you saw the convention, you saw a diverse bunch. Our base includes more than just white men. We have a female speaker of the house, we ran a woman for VP 24 years ago. We are not in it for IDENTITY POLITICS.
Just because Palin is a woman doesn’t mean that she is going to our vote. This is the same Palin that said Hillary Clinton was “whining.” This is the same Palin that cut funding for a center that housed teen mothers!
No, no, no my friend. Don’t let the polls fool you. Democrats want someone that shares their values first! We want someone that will lead this country in the right direction first! McCain-Palin are not change; they are the same.
We want Obama-Biden in 2008.

With very minor exceptions the red states have the highest poverty rates, the most violent crime and the least amount of highly educated people and the most social problems…the statistics are widely published on these numbers…the poor uneducated keep voting people in who keep them poor and keep the wealthy rich with the trickle down economic theory…when will the poor realize they actually need the govt to help…be carefull pretty soon the blue states will give the south and midwest what they wish…to be left alone…that way more young people will continue to move out of the midwest the south will continue in stifling poverty, and they can deal with the immigration problem by paying for a big wall to protect themselves from immigrants by themselves…come to think of it, I think the blue states should give up on the red states and vote republican..if they arent smart enough to get it after 8 years, lets give them 8 more to stay poor, uneducated and struggling with social problems…maybe they could move to the upper midwest, NE or CA…no can’t afford it….

“Bill” has the best post here: I am sorely disappointed by the total lack of any intellectual discussion of any issues that matter to this country.

The values of a society can often be identified by noting which people receive honor or respect … and the middle (note who I am refering to here … THE MIDDLE, not the left) likes and respects Sarah Palin … therefore evidently she represents their values.
Elections are not decided by you (left), not by me (right), but the middle. That’s who matters … the middle.

Hey John in Seattle – that would be pretty extreme. Except Palin doesn’t fit your dfn – she didn’t request books be banned or actually ban any (see CBS News), she supports both birth control and abstinence programs (see LA Times), she prayed that the efforts being made and plan being implemented was part of God’s (presumably overall) plan (see NPR), remarks by other people have been attributed to her in an effort to create a Wright/Obama guilt by association dyanmic (see NPR), reformer/maverick …IMHO you deal the hand you’re dealt at the table where you’re sitting … i.e., work the system when you have to, go for the gold when you can. I don’t see an inconsistency, and I see little benefit in being a “purely on principle” player like Kucinich/Nader/Paul — ideals may get you to heaven, but won’t get you into elected office(No source, guess it’s for each individual to decide)

First of all, there’s no such thing as an honest politician – democrat or repulican. So, Sarah Palin can spout scripted rhetoric from her pulpit across the country but she’s no different than any of them… she just has “witty” little remarks and eyeglasses to distract from them. I’m not sure in what world you people live to say she has more experience than Barack Obama… you wanna say “as much” experience, fine… but more? Where did she gain that experience? When she was mayor of a city of 6,000 people, 85 percent of whom were white? Or now as Governor to 670,000? Seriously? You’re just making yourself look like the conservative-follwers that you are… anti-gay, anti-abortion? Oh well, don’t care what else she can do, that’s all you need to know, right? YOUR values… no thanks.

Yo “Bob,” you are right-on about the red vs. blue states. People in the blue states are more educated, earn more income, suffer less from crime violence, have lower rates of divorce (MA has the lowest divorce rate in the nation!), and are generally healthier than their red state counterparts. And, by the way, there is a net transfer of our blue state tax dollars to red states, especially Alaska! I can’t believe we have to subsidize these idiots!

Posted by: jefflz | September 9, 2008, 1:54 pm 1:54 pm

Jim,
I am an independent not a DNC or RNC member. I am very familiar with consideration of choices and research. Factcheck.org does a great job on providing the summary information to make an informed decision.
That said, do the research and make a common sense decision. Americans make decisions based on media-clips and sound bites. Do the research on Palin and McCain. I am not saying Obama and Biden are ‘the’ answer but they have a lot less grey in their background and their values are inclusive of people not exclusive.
Look at it from this point. Who would invite you over for dinner? Biden and McCain or Palin and McCain? I highly doubt Palin and McCain would becuase they are not from your background. They were raised as an elitist and they other, history shows, will be the scapegoat if the RNC loses the election.
If you want guns, lack of choice and a god-fearing antion than vote for McCain and Palin. If you want to have respect, freedon and choice with a chance at prosperity vote for Obama and McCain.
It is that simple.

Posted by: TheDude | September 9, 2008, 1:54 pm 1:54 pm

How can you like either side? Bottom line the Republicans are bad because they lie and cheat and steal and hide inside their ‘Christianity’ cloak (although there are many theologians that believe Jesus would have been a Democrat if he were here and had a choice…I think independent). The Democrats are just as bad or perhaps even worse because they said ‘elect us and we’ll fix the problems the Republicans caused’ and when they got elected they crawled right up next to their rotting partners in crime the Republicans. The truth is as the political philosopher said, ‘politics in the US is like a coin it has two sides but is still one coin. The Republicans are one side and the Democrats are the other’…whatever happens they win and we lose. As Americans, when are we going to say ‘enough’ and put an end to this? As long as we fight over who is best the Republicans or the Democrats…they will; and always will. This country is a Democratic (perhaps a one party/coin democracy) Plutocracy and that’s not good for anyone but the rich.

I’m sure the women know that there may be two Supreme Court positions open during the next four years, both are pro choice, and electing McCain/Palin could very possibly lead to a heavily conservative court that would move to overturn Roe v Wade.
I know the Republicans believe the women of America are to stupid to see this coming but I do not believe this for a second.
Palin will make very little difference in the female vote. Those who will vote for McCain were already going to vote for McCain.

Posted by: neteret01 | September 9, 2008, 1:57 pm 1:57 pm

It would seem to me that the McCain camp has done its job… which was to divert as much attention as possible away from the actual issues that concern this nation… and direct the attention to the new “Jerry Springer” show which is this years election. You can bet that if the RNC happened first or before Obama announced his VP pick, McCain would not have had a woman on his ticket. A woman was picked because Obama did not pick a woman; it was done as a stunt and nothing more. McCain picked Palin because of her direct ties to Alaskas oil fields. McCain also picked a woman because he believes that a woman will vote for a woman period; he thinks a woman will not have the smarts to educate themselves on the issues and cast a vote based on actually being informed.
Would some one please explain to me why McCain is being viewed as promoting change? What Change? Its the same old thing that has been going on for the past 8 years… diversion tactics, bold face lies, give more to the very rich and make the poor even poorer, make lots of laws and moral judgements on every person in this country but don’t apply them to yourself and continue to drive this country right into the ground. If McCain is elected do you really think he and his buddies are going to let Palin do or say anything during those four years? Oh no, that will not happen, if elected Palin will be nothing except a matching bookend to McCains trouphy wife… they should have labels on them that state “For display purposes only”. Change… I don’t think so!!!

One day soon, I’d personally like to hear some policy come from her mouth. The economy and other related issues are what Americans need to hear from her.

We shall overcome the sudden hurricane of Sarah Palin hype as it doesn’t take long to see the numerous character flaws and contradictions. Please, how can you think women voters are that stupid? She is nowhere near the candidate/ability/or ideology of Obama or his fellow democrat Hillary. The GOP has only won their own usual narrow minded base. Obama has won over independent, newly registered and discouraged voters who had given up their priviledge to vote in previous years as they felt they had no real choice.
There will be a turnout of record voters and the election will indeed result in President Barack Obama so you wingnuts better prepare yourself or just get out of OUR country, the land of the free – not the land of the GOP!

The polls always give Democrats 5 points because the media that take them are Democrats. Obama is at least 5 points further down than polls indicate.

It’s funny that people say that Obama should’ve picked Hillary to run with him, now that McCain made his choice. Don’t you realize that, if Obama had chosen Hillary, the Republicans still would’ve found a way to turn it against him? Not to mention that there are a lot of people who can’t stand Hillary. Now that she’s no longer running it’s not so apparent, but I would say there are more people who would’ve refused to vote for an Obama/Clinton ticket than an Obama/Biden ticket. In hindsight it’s harder to say that with the way things are going now, but you have to admit that’s true. If Obama had chosen Hillary, McCain probably would’ve chosen Lieberman, and instead of appealing to the Republican base he would’ve been appealing more to the moderates, which would still be to McCain’s advantage.
And for those of you who think Obama is anti-women because he defeated Hillary and had more money than her, get real. Hillary was his opponent, and he treated her as such. You talk about equal treatment for women, but as soon as one gets into a position of such power like Hillary has, you cry foul when they’re tough on her. You can’t have it both ways. Voting for McCain/Palin just because Obama didn’t choose Hillary is an incredibly stupid thing to do. Learn about Palin’s viewpoints, her actual track record in Alaska as opposed to what she says it is, how much lying she’s done just in the time since she was chosen as McCain’s VP, and then make up your mind. Vote for McCain/Palin if you really like them, but voting for McCain/Palin because you like Hillary shows great ignorance on your part.

This is the same classic battle of red vs blue states that has taken hold in this country..it will look very similiar to the last election and the one before that…the only problem is that the blue states are for the most part doing much much much better in terms of almost any indicator on well being. Infant mortality rate, poverty, crime etc…check it out..all the data is out there and it is indisputable..there are exceptions of course but as a general rule the blue states are doing well and the red states are struggling…doesnt this seem a bit odd…why do the red states keep putting up with the same political party over and over again..at least vote independent or something…but when is this republican idealism going to benefit you Louisana, or alabama or georgia? It hasnt yet..maybe someday but these are the states that need the most govt assistance not the least. This red vs blue thing is crazy..MCAIN/PALIN is silly for the red states…hasnt the last eight years been enough for you…while the blue states are struggling it isnt anything compared to the struggling in the red states…

Why should Obama answer that question? He chose the Vice President who he thought would be best for the country, not that one who would garner the most attention. He felt that he and Biden were compatible and could work well together. That decision represents good judgement, and it speaks for itself.

It is absolutely absurd to think that any intelligent woman who was a Hillary supporter would now swing her vote to Palin. She represents a totally different political view than Hillary, and has done more against women than supporting them.
Palin is a puppet for the republican’s gambling on the sensational tactics of the republican party. Once again they are playing the same old smoke screen games that are aimed to distract voters from the real issues.
The last eight years have been ENOUGH !!
Palin is simply a falsified MASK , designed to lure in the woman vote. Any woman who votes for her betrays the essence of what women have struggled to achieve for decades. Palin is a worm on an ugly hook !!

McCain/Palin have said that the issues are not important in this campaign. The way I read it, they are admitting that they don’t have workable plans for the economy, healthcare, education, the war in Iraq so they must convince Americans that they are more “likeable” than Obama/Biden. Well, the issues ARE very important to me and I want a president who has clear, workable plans. So, this is one woman who is wholeheartedly supporting the Obama/Biden ticket. Give me substance over style any day!

What is wrong with Obama? He is still refusing toaknowledge the non-college age women of his party. A pathology is becoming apparent. In his “historic” response speech on racism the only bad guys he pointed fingers at were his white grandmother whom he later referred to as “a typical white woman” and Geraldine Ferraro. He allowed mysogyny and sexism to play on his behalf during the primaries, and refused to commit to supporting Clinton should she be nominated. He refused to have her as running mate although she had slightly more than half of his own party’s votes. He is willing to risk being the first African American president out of inability to compromise his own ego. This will effect black Americans for generatins and demonstrates a clear unwillingness to represent all Americans.

Arlane – how can you say Obama chose a VP who would work best for the country – when that person was against everyone he campaigned on? Obama said that Clinton “lacked jugment” because she voted for the war. Well, I guess he chose someone whom by his own standards lacks judgment. He also lambasted Clinton for “supporting” NAFTA. Well, Biden did even worse — he VOTED for NAFTA. I guess that’s ok with Obama. He also criticized Clinton for voting for Bush’s bankruptcy reform — citing that as a reason why she cannot be for average Americans. Well, Biden — the Senator from the banking state — voted for it as well. Obama is a pack of lies.

Am surprised at the amount of criticism anti-Obamans are throwing here. What I don’t read here is them seeing what is happening to the nation. Obama is propelled and funded by the people. Now you can predict a bad tommorow with Obama while live the horrible reality of Bush. McSame will bring the same horrors to you in a greater scale than Bush. So, don’t shoot our messenger, Obama. We the people support what he intends to do. As for Republicans…the RNC did make it clear that they dont think they are Americans till they put on there hats. It is evident they don’t give a damn about America. Wake up critics…stand as the people not republicans….there is an important document that starts “We the people….”. Its about us Americans!

Joanne – Kerry’s first choice of a running mate was McCain, who turned him down. What does that tell you? Perhaps that until he became the Republican nominee, he was seen as someone who could easily work both sides of the aisle and was loved by Democrats. Even Biden during the primary season, said he thought McCain would bring more experience to the White House than Obama would. As for Meghan being an independant, McCain has given several interviews where he brags about that and uses it as an example that he raised a free-thinker.

Hillary supporters too. Women are 54% of the country….we are the majority of doctors in this country and many women on Fortune 500 lists (more than African American)…..what makes politicans in this country think they can get away with sticking it to Hillary Clinton in a way that even Republican women could see these past months.

The poll with the huge swing in women voters involves a sample subset with a probable margin of error of 10% at a 50% rate of occurrence, a larger margin of error at a lower rate of occurrence, which means the projection is basically unreliable. The methodology from one poll to another varies so averaging them is statistically unreliable as well. It is probably best to say McCain and Obama are in a ‘guessed’ dead heat and if and when the Barr equation is factored in, McCain will be 4-8 percentage points behind Obama.

I have this eerie feeling every time that Palin talks, it’s like someone has pulled the string on a talking doll- one that has preprogrammed to say the same things over and over again! When will she say anything new, spontaneous, or insightful? Every speech that she makes, she repeats the same old clumsy one liners, with the same repetitive tone, as if she were a comedian telling the same Joke in a new town. The news clips the MSM are showing day to day are word for word the same phrases she spoke at the convention. Will McCain’s handlers ever let her speak extemporaneously, off the top of her head, and maybe even answer a few townhall questions like a regular guy or gal? Incredible.

Do they really think people are so stupid as to change their vote when it is not Palin they are voting for rather John McCain. Palin is NOT running for President. McCain is and that is who you are voting for in that case. Palin will fall behind the scenes to the shadows should JM become President. She will have no power or decision making authority on what the President does. For the media to think that we are so stupid out here to not realize this is laughable. Just another media ploy to try and control things the way they want them to be portrayed to sell news. This election is between John McCain and Barak Obama. Not Palin and Obama.

Let’s not make conservatives out to be mean… Anything that is said on one side can be said of the other.

I didn’t know you’re such a great fortune teller of FUTURE events. And to say that Republicans are not Americans… lol… okay, who’s criticizing and aggregating all repubs in one group.
Funny how one who has fought for America all of his life is somehow seen as unAmerican vs the one who spends a lot of his time in another continent (middle east and africa) and getting political. I really could careless about that… but McCane is anything but unAmerican… and yes, he’s a republican… though admittedly, I’ve always seen him as a democrat in ’00. The names republicans and democrats some how sound negative, when it shouldn’t be.

Obama is right. Every woman I know, all around the country – from both parties – wants Obama.
Jim Rod, your facts are all wrong. Both George Bush and is father are the only ones involved with known terrorists: The Bin Laden family has had ties to the Bush oil family for years. And Barack Obama firmly disavowed his ties to his former preacher. Clearly, he does not admire him, so why do you make it sound as though he does by distorting the truth?
Although you are a Viet Nam vet (thank you for your service) as is McCain, you and he probably have nothing else in common unless you: Own 7 homes, can afford your own expensive health care and don’t mind sky-high gas prices and are not having any economic or real estate problems. If any of these things ARE affecting your life right NOW, you are fooling yourself by supporting McCain. Try to think about another 4 years like the last 8. Is that what you really want? Because that’s what you’ll be voting for.
Not me. I’m an independent, too, and certainly know that Obama and Biden are a smarter, more genuine, better balanced team that are trying to help the majority of Americans and not just big business and oil companies.
It’s time for a big change and Obama and Biden will be getting my vote when I walk into the polling place on November 4th.

Lauren, So because I was born and raised in a Lutheran family you are saying I am Lutheran no matter what I do or believe? What a crock of crap. Obama is not Muslim and we all know it. My parents were Lutheran. I am not. One side of my grandparents were Catholic. I am not. Just because Obama had relation that were Muslim does not make him a Muslim period.
And you know something else? SO WHAT IF HE WAS? This is America. If he wants to be a Muslim, so be it. He can be and practice any religion he wants and be a great President. That IS the point.

Hey smallTownGirl:
Don’t waste your time getting a student loan… work as much as you can to pay CASH for as much as you can! It is foolish these days to get student loans… they screw you in the end… Besides, companies don’t look at WHAT school you went to… just that you got a degree from an accredited school! There are plenty out there that are less expensive… where you don’t need loans if you get a good paying service industry job.

INCOME TAX
MCCAIN (no changes)
Single making 30K – tax $4,500
Single making 50K – tax $12,500
Single making 75K – tax $18,750
Married making 60K- tax $9,000
Married making 75K – tax $18,750
Married making 125K – tax $31,250
OBAMA (reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts) Single making 30K – tax $8,400
Single making 50K – tax $14,000
Single making 75K – tax $23,250
Married making 60K – tax $16,800
Married making 75K – tax $21,000
Married making 125K – tax $38,750
Under Obama, your taxes could almost double!
INHERITANCE TAX
MCCAIN – 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax)
OBAMA Restore the inheritance tax Many families have lost businesses, farms, ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved ones will only lose them to these taxes.
NEW TAXES PROPOSED BY OBAMA
New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet. New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren’t high enough already) New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity) New taxes on retirement accounts, and last but not least….New taxes to pay for socialized medicine
CAPITAL GAINS TAX
MCCAIN 0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples). McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.
OBAMA 28% on profit from ALL home sales. (How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.)
DIVIDEND TAX
MCCAIN 15% (no change)
OBAMA 39.6% – (How will this affect you? If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama becomes president. The experts predict that ‘Higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market, yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit)

When the historians look at the past several presidential elections, I believe that they will point a finger of blame at Fox News, a shameless propaganda channel run by Australian Rupert Murdoch expressly to misinform Americans.
When Barack Obama takes office, I hope the first thing that happens is that lawyers and the FCC are sent to investigate Murdoch, and anti-monopoly laws are once again enforced in this nation. The damage Fox News has done to this country is immeasurable. Just look at the folks on this board who parrot Hannity & Co word for word, facts be damned. What a shame.

The amount of woman that will be voting for McCain/Palin is growing without a doubt. Even though Obama says no, his actions say differently. It isnt a coincidence that he has sent out the big name woman out on his campaign trail right after Palin was announced and her huge entrance at the RNC. He basically had to go beg Hillary to get her off of helping out her local politicians in NY to go out quickly to Florida. Now he is hitting up Bill to assist as well. He does not like the CLINTON’s but he has realized that they are his only salvation.

I bet of the 18 million votes that Ms Hillary got in the primary elections that probably half of those were Republicans trying to keep Obama the furthest left of the Liberal bunch OFF the ticket. Watch as 9 million of those votes go back to McCain / Palin.
I’m just guessing this because ALL of my family members did this and everyone at my dentists office did this and all the people I associate with in competitive circles did that.
This tax payer is tired of paying for the highest teen preganancy rate in the country (women having welfare born kids one after the other with different fathers) Google Nueces County (Texas) Teen Pregnancy. I used to think that at least Obama was a good politician. He has no credentials to speak of, but I thought at least he was a good speaker and a good campaigner. But, this guy is really clueless.
Obama doesn’t understand that the reason he’s falling in the polls is not because conservatives are fired up about McCain/Palin. It’s because independent voters and white women are leaving the Obama camp and supporting Obama’s opponents. That can certainly change between now and Election Day. But, this shift is a very serious problem for Obama. If it doesn’t reverse itself, McCain/Palin win in a landslide.

Obama have the highest rate of getting younger people to get Register to vote. The surprise will be if they come out to vote in Nov. if so, Obama will win by a land slide. I have been campaigning for the Obama camp all over in the Pittsburgh area, and each time it was over whelming with supporters from younger, black and white, men and women so I would not read too much into these polls.

Obama is not behind. The polls can be manipulated to focus on a particular demographic. For example, people who respond to telephone polls are usually older retired people who don’t have caller ID. Most people with caller ID will not pick up a call from a poll. Also, people who primarily use cell phones are excluded entirely. Don’t believe the hype. Don’t believe the polls!

He was referring to primary contests and mistakenly said states. With Guam, PR, Dems abroad and the states with primaries & caucuses, there are more than 50 contests for the Dem primary.
Compare that to McCain who talked about the need to protect Czechoslovakia a country that has not existed for 15 years. And he did so not once but at leats twice.
One is a slip of the tongue the other a demonstration of cluelessness.
And if you want to play the he misspoke game, McCain has substituted the Pittsburgh Steelers for the Green Bay Packers in his famous “squadron mates” retort (in Pittsburgh of course), confused the Sunni and Shia, confused Shia militants with Al Queda of Iraq and so on and so forth.

But he still doesn’t get it. He is losing among women and independents.
McCain took a chance with a woman. Not just any woman–she is capable, strong, smart and down to earth.
She is one of us. Something Obama never could be.

Those 20 percent white women were just looking for a reson not to vote for Obaman anyway. Those 20 percent white women also were not a true Hilliary supporter becasue if they were there is not way putting Palin on the ticket would have changed their mind that quick. Palin is no Hilliary and her issues are far different then Hilliary. Those 20 percent were just voting for Hilliary becasue she was a women only. Palin is Hitler in a dress and have not class. Those 20 percent white women I bet are very old angry women. What they don’t realize is they are giving women a bad name. They are letting American people they are welling to put their emotions first over this country and what is best for everybody not just these angry old white racist women. I hope can withstand for more of the same becasue they rather cut of their nose the spice the face and the let the American people suffer becasue they are too hatefull to let go and move on. I have one question for those 20 percent white angry women and this is what do you think to accomplished by backing McWar beside give the American people for more year of the same. Your voting rights need to be revolted. This race is not about you angry white old women, it is about the American people and what is good for this country. McWar will have the USA fighting one war after. Why do yu thing the main reason Bush will not pull any troops out until next year hope that McWar will win. McWar will go back on Bush promisie and keep the Troop from coming home for over 100 years. To you women know what you are doing to all us American people becasue of your anger!
But, like I said in my eariler post it will be the young people that put Obama in the White House. This is their life and they are going to show the world that this is their life and will not let anger, racist, or any other thing stand in their way at this election. Mark my world, if Obama wins it will be becasue of the young voters bottom line.
Main reason I don’t care about the polls results this year. They are polling the wrong people and in Nov. the results will show it. Obama/Biden 2008

“Obama’s tax plan might save some taxes for income tax on working people.”
Anyone earning less than $250,000 gets much more of tax cut under Obama’s plan than McCain’s.
“But folks, that is only one tax out of perhaps a hundred that you will save on.”
There are tax cuts and credits for small business and healthcare.
“The rest goes up under Obama’s plan.”
Not true. If you make $250K +, your income taxes will go up and you payrolls taxes on earnings above $200K
“My disabled sister’s tax would go up because she lives on her dividends and capital gains.”
Obama is only increasing the maximum capital gains rate(from 15% to 20%). So unless your sister is in the top tax bracket for income, she will not be affected.
“She pays 11% local sales tax on food, clothes, medicine, etc.”
Sales tax never applies to food(non-restaurant), clothing or medicine and is controlled by state and local governments vs Federal. There is no federal sales tax.

Obama said the race is far from over, and that issues would ultimately beat out personality.
Amen to that statement. Republs can not keep involing the issues becasue this is not a beauty contest. It will soon die down and they will have to answere questions they have been avoiding before the American people. Let them have their fun well it last. Oct. will be the real test.

Nobody I know is voting for Palin. Only the fundies like her.
I can’t wait for the debate with Biden. They’d better not give Palin the questions ahead of time, and she’d better not wear a wire. They should check her before the debate starts.

Act on your emotions first and then clean of the mess after ward if their is any thing left to clean up. Women = Too emotionaly to be President of the USA.
This message is coming from a women and I that the polls are lieing as well!

Obama asked if Americans are stupid.
His camp looks kind of stupid–they act like Obama is running against Palin instead of McCain.
The pro-Obama media is stupid enough to attack Palin. A small town girl with more qualifications than BO.
The very voters he needed.
Someone is stupid–but it’s not the McCain supporters.

If Obama doesn’t think there is an underlying female factor (insulting us ’cause “where else are they going to go?”) why is he specifically mentioning WOMEN and healthcare? Obama’s pandering offers WOMEN healthcare. Yeah, that’ll really help after all the name calling and slapping around we got from your campaign. But….TOO LATE, this woman is LEAVING.

Has anyone noticed McCain can’t keep his eyes off Palins behind? Thats Republican respect ladies. The kind of respect you can expect from McCain. Vote for Palin, keep her on the ticket, there are many men in America that want you in the kitchen and making babies.
McCain is a well known womanizer. How much real power do you think he will actually give Palin? lol
Vote Obama and let Hillary assume the job in Govt that Obama will give her. We need Hillary in a position of power to help us all get past the disaster of the Bush years.

Not to be picky, but your headline reading “Obama doesn’t believe polls”

“Hey, Jake, can you explain to me what the difference is between a “press availability” and a “press conference” is? This is the first time I’ve heard of this “press availability” term.”
I’ll see if I can.
A press conference is where you face multiple reporters and just take questions.
Press availability would refer to how much access you allow to the press whether its one on one interviews, press conferences or even quick answers to reporter question while on the campaign trail.

I have to say; the fact that McCain went with a female VP, saw what a hit she was and decided to stick with her on the trail, as well as being OBVIOUSLY happy; makes McCain, as old as he is, seem like a REAL man who is happy to be surrounded by STRONG, SUCCESSFUL women. THAT is appealing to this woman, and I am not even voting for him. Not voting for BO either.

John McCain is calling for offshore drilling, wind generation, nuclear power and coal generation plus whatever anyone can come up with to solve our energy problems. Obama opposes all of that but the only recommendation he has made so far is to check the air in our tires. That’s a plan? …. McCain supports the Second Amendment along with the Supreme Court and 73% of the American people. Obama said he knew the DC gun ban was unconstitutional but he supported it anyway. He still supports the Chicago ban and circumvention of the court order in DC. What other parts of the Constitution does he plan to ignore? How much democracy does he plan to allow? Will he obey the Supreme Court at all or ignore them like he did this time? …… McCain has the military experience and wisdom to listen to the generals concerning the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Obama who is not a veteran, won’t listen to the generals and thinks he knows more than they do. He admits he may have to send troops back into Iraq to redo what has been done so far. He bows to the rhetoric of the Democratic party and plans to pull troops out anyway. … Obama plans to raise taxes on the rich. Sounds good until you consider that those business owners will simply raise prices to pass the expense on to the consumer. Who actually ends up paying for the tax increase on the rich? The poor and middle class. … My daughter is 22 and working on a PhD. She plans to vote for McCain. So much for the young, better educated, minority, female supporting Obama. She says her friends are split about 50/50. 1.

For a candidate that has attacked Obama over and over for being nothing but “rhetoric,” I am now hearing an awful lot of rhetoric coming from McCain, his campaign and his supporters.
Of course, once Palin is finished taking Foreign Affairs 101 and watching that “The Vice Presidency and You: What does a Vice President Do?” video, I’m sure she’ll finally feel confident enough to face the media an then we’ll be gifted with even more rhetoric.

@Oonogil “John McCain is calling for offshore drilling, wind generation, nuclear power and coal generation plus whatever anyone can come up with to solve our energy problems. Obama opposes all of that but the only recommendation he has made so far is to check the air in our tires.”
FALSE.
Here is the TRUTH: “Obama has stated that he is in favor of nuclear power if the waste issue and safety concerns are addressed, and has agreed to compromise on offshore drilling as long as it is part of a large energy package that favors renewable energy.”

“John McCain is calling for offshore drilling, wind generation, nuclear power and coal generation plus whatever anyone can come up with to solve our energy problems.”
McCain seems to favor drilling for oil and nuclear power as that is all he discusses.
“Obama opposes all of that but the only recommendation he has made so far is to check the air in our tires. That’s a plan?”
What a bald faced lie.
Obama supports drilling and nuclear power as part of a comprehensive plan that focuses on new alternative energies creating new jobs and reducing our dependence on oil period.
“McCain has the military experience and wisdom to listen to the generals concerning the war in Iraq and Afghanistan”
Then why did he ignore generals telling him Iraq was not the battleground for the war on terror and why has he been ignoring generals calls for more troops in Afghanistan?
McCain claimed that Afghanistan won because the papers no longer write about it. He also said Palin has foreign policy experience because Russia is close to Alaska. That’s your military expertise.
“Obama plans to raise taxes on the rich. Sounds good until you consider that those business owners will simply raise prices to pass the expense on to the consumer”
If that were true, prices would have come down when Bush cut taxes. They did not.
I love how Republicans proudly talk about the rich avoiding their tax responsibilities and passing those costs on to others.

First off, a Woman can become president. I, a woman voter, just do not trust Sarah Palin because she did not speak the truth in her speach. “When Congress wanted to give me the money for the Bridge to Nowhere, I said NO THANKS!” But Sarah was the one PUSHING for that money for HER Bridge to Nowhere.
Sarah changed her mind ONLY AFTER it was Aired and Captured by the News Media Across the Country about SARAH’S Bridge to Nowhere being funded by FEDERAL TAXPAYERS DOLLARS, which made a lot of taxpayers like me across the country ANGRY about that Bridge to Nowhere.
Yet Sarah TOOK the money and never returned it.
If she were really a good Christian, which is what she claims to be, then she would have returned every penny of OUR Federal Taxpayers Dollars. In fact Am I the only one who wants to know why the Bush Administration did NOT demand my Federal tax money Back. What are we, whimps? or United States of America citizens?

Posted by: Mack | September 9, 2008, 4:01 pm 4:01 pm

Uncle Joe Biden was doing his part today to help improve these poll numbers:
Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) says that if Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) becomes the first female vice president it will be a “backward step for women.”
Asked by a local television reporter in Milwaukee, Wisconsin if electing Palin would be a step forward for women, Biden said, “well look, I think the issue is what does Sarah Palin think? What does she believe?”
“I assume she thinks and agrees with the same policies that George Bush and John McCain think,” Biden added. “And that’s obviously a backward step for women.”
A backward step for women. Really? Sure you don’t want to change your answer? Contrast that statement with McCain’s congratulatory commercial to Obama on the historic night Obama accepted his party’s nomination.
Keep talking, Joe. Please, keep talking.

First: to Esther; The fact that you use the word freedom at the end of your opinion is laughable. Everything you said is the exact opposite of freedom, but at least you live in a country where you have that right…for now…. 2nd: It is also laughable that the republican party is the family value party. I am a Democrat. I am married to the mother of my three children. We are faithful to each other. I work two jobs to provide for them. I guess that’s a lazy democrat. I believe in God. I accept those who do not share my views of religion. I am pro life but do not believe it is my place or our governments place to force their ideals on someone else. Jesus was a tolerant loving person if I’m not mistaken who wanted to help the needy not discriminate against them. I pray for those of you who are so filled with hate. I see the republican party as the party of hypocrisy. I know three friends who are extreme conservatives. They are voting for McCain/Palin due to their family values. Guess what? They have all had an abortion, and cheated on their husbands. I don’t judge them. they are my friends but I do find the hypocrisy rather unbelievable. 3rd: for those of you that are now voting for Palin because Hillary was not chosen. That is a slap in the face to Hillary. You must not really care about the issue just the gender. I’ll be voting for Obama/Biden.

“gl, Hillary had more ELECTORAL votes in the primary..”
You’re both wrong as electoral votes don’t exist in primaries.
Obama won the most delegates (pledged & super) and that is what determines the nominee.
He also won the popular vote.
The only way Hillary wins that is by including MI & FL. One was a straw poll based on name recognition, the other he was not even on the ballot.

A large percent of our Latino community was polled for a school project. Fifty four percent of the 100 people questioned, lost interest in the election when Hillary was forced out. They had hoped she would not cave in to the Party’s pressure. The most common response from those voters: I don’t care who wins now……Most won’t bother to vote. Hmmmm. That’s just in this tiny community.

He has replaced a dried-out old candidate with zero pzazz, who is too confused to get the facts straight, with a know-nothing right-wing Christian fundamentalist who won a beauty contest. Instead of looking at the horrible record of the last 8 nightmarish Bush years we now want to find out who is the sexiest, who has the best one liner put-downs? Hey Kids, while the economy is going down the tubes, people are losing their homes and jobs, and respect for this country is at an all time low, lets have a Popularity Contest!! Its just like High School, wow, kids this is fun. The heck with boring political stuff, lets go for the cute gal with the smart mouth (her words also provided by Rove). Hey Republicans…I have to comment on your assestment that the media has been sexism against Sarah Palin because they are asking if she can handle the job as VP and still be able to care for her family.
First of all…you MUST recognize that the men candidates have also been asked this of them. The one example that races to my mind is when Elizabeth Edwards revealed her cancer had come back and everyone was asking could John Edwards handle looking after his family at the same time he was running for president.
So please, please refrain from a close-minded approach that anytime we question Sarah Palin it’s because we’re sexist. I’m a woman and I am asking this same question because she has 5 teenage children and they are at an age where they are very impressionable…that’s fair. Just like it was fair to question Edwards if he could handle running for Pres. while his wife was in her vulnerable state.
What scares me is that women might be focusing on trying to prove a point at the expense of putting our country back on the right track. The republicans are dangerous…and as a mother to be (my baby arrives in Dec.) I’m more concerned on making the point that I cannot entrust my baby’s future to a party that wrecklessly thrusted us into a war that never should have been waged. I’m more concerned that the republican party for the next 8 years will countinue to harms us economically and do nothing to advance our educational system. That’s what we should be focusing on.

Well according to everyone John McCain and Sarah Palin have won.
My bottom line is America has had eigth years of a Republican. Unemployment at worst level in 8 years. Another Bank closed Sunday and more to come. America Sunday just took over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. America is gigantic mortgage disaster. Gas at all time high!! America has worst debt in whole US history. America is in Iraq War Americans were lied to.
And then there is Alaska and Republican Sarah Palin. She didn’t clean up political corruption. FBI did it all and was started way before she took office. Sarah Palin didn’t start, do any investigation. State did not do. FBI did all and they are still there.
FACT -FBI Alaska Political Corruption
FACT – party responsible for corruption – REPUBLICANS – 11 legislators indicted plus Republican lobbyists + oil administrator + others
FACT – No Democrats

FACT – Republican Sarah did nothing except ride the wave. Alaskans not paying attention which party corrupt. Appears just upset politicians corrupt. Sarah Palin just lucky she can ride wave and get high voter approval without doing anything to clean up. Alaska government has been walking carefully since 2004. Pretty easy with FBI there!! “Jesus was a community organizer.
Pontius Pilate was a Governor.”
Once again, the Democrats show how to lose by pissing off the evangelicals they they can’t win who will draw over the denominations they might. Such clever people these Democrats.
Clue: Jesus was a teacher. John The Baptist was a community organizer. Pontius Pilate was a civil servant. Barrabas was a politician. Mary was a mother and guess which one of them is actually running for VP.
Mothers don’t care about community organizers, civil servants or politicians. They care about teachers.

I believe that McCain’s campaign chose ABC and Charlie Gibson for her first “outing” is because Charlie Gibson is more credible a “jounalist” than Matthews, Olbermann, Anderson, Brokaw or Williams are! Charlie has always been above the crowd when it comes to real journalism! If Peter Jennings were alive he would be the first to condemn the actions of the mainstream media. However, if Palin does well, her detractors will say she is a liar anyway…can’t win either way!!

Her limited experience and weak education aside, Palin has spoken in her church that “our national leaders are sending (soldiers) out on a task that’s from God”. This type of religious belief has caused untold amounts of suffering in this world, not least of which is radical Islam. Women I know are not “flocking” to Palin.
Posted by: mere | Sep 9, 2008 3:59:59 PM
This is a load of misinformation. Let’s sort it out.
1. Palin did not request the bridge. It was Senator Stevens who attempted to earmark the money. She wasn’t even governor yet.
2. Alaska was going to get the money no matter what. It was part of its transportation grant. Stevens was trying to stipulate that a portion of it had to be spent on the bridge.
3. Obama and Biden voted twice to leave the earmark in place, even when Sen. Coburn attempted to remove it and use the money for Katrina recovery.
4. Once in office, Gov. Palin cancelled the project after she realized that it was going to be too expensive and the state did not have the funds for the project.
5. As a mayor and governor, under the budget process that is in place, it was her job to try to bring federal money to her people.

How to Tell Obama’s in Trouble
“Sunday Biden says life begins at conception. Over the weekend Obama said he’ll not rescind the Bush tax cuts if the economy remained in trouble. Earlier on O’Reilly he said the surge did work.
Backtracking on the surge, taxes and abortion. Hmm. Next thing you know Obama and Biden will start campaigning in red open-toed shoes and frameless glasses.”

Well, out here in TV-land, we all saw the DNC conventioners and not all were happy about his anti-Hillary jumpshots. So why wouldn’t women, or men, look at the options? Palin is certainly well-qualfied with city, state, and commissioner experience with results that demonstrate her leadership capability. McCain doesn’t look too bad himself. All the McSame, McBush namecalling, what a joke!, because the Republicans almost didn’t want McCain because he is not afraid to be a maverick and work across party lines. McCain is more of a moderate, compared with a far-left too liberal Obama. Sure, women will vote for Palin. And men too.

I think it’s funny that now the polls are in favor of McCain/Palin the Obama supporters say the polls don’t matter. But month after month all we heard was the polls have Obama in the lead from Obama supporters. On that note, the polls mean nothing, they’re polling just a few hundred to a few thousand people not the whole US. We’ll just have to see how things end up in November. Do remember Kerry was up by what 12% when he lost?

“Of course McCain isn’t going to campaign on overturning Roe v Wade. It’s too extreme and unpopular.”
And yet there it is as clear as day on his own website.
Check his issues page under “Sanctity of Life”
Human Dignity and the Sanctity of Life
Overturning Roe v. Wade
John McCain believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that must be overturned, and as president he will nominate judges who understand that courts should not be in the business of legislating from the bench.
Constitutional balance would be restored by the reversal of Roe v. Wade, returning the abortion question to the individual states. The difficult issue of abortion should not be decided by judicial fiat.
However, the reversal of Roe v. Wade represents only one step in the long path toward ending abortion. Once the question is returned to the states, the fight for life will be one of courage and compassion – the courage of a pregnant mother to bring her child into the world and the compassion of civil society to meet her needs and those of her newborn baby. The pro-life movement has done tremendous work in building and reinforcing the infrastructure of civil society by strengthening faith-based, community, and neighborhood organizations that provide critical services to pregnant mothers in need. This work must continue and government must find new ways to empower and strengthen these armies of compassion. These important groups can help build the consensus necessary to end abortion at the state level. As John McCain has publicly noted, “At its core, abortion is a human tragedy. To effect meaningful change, we must engage the debate at a human level.”

“Obama has more lobbyists support than McCain.”
This is an outright lie.
McCain has taken in more money from lobbyists and lobbying firms at a 4 to 1 ratio vs Obama. McCain has taken in $824K vs $209K for Obama from lobbyists and people who work at lobbying firms.
“Obama received more campaign donations from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac employees than McCain.”
Yes he did. Around $100K was Obama’s total.
John McCain received 3 times as much money from the oil and gas industry. He got $1.5M.

Having rights in some states but not others was abolished by the 14th amendment.
Also the believing that Republicans in Congress (and the states) who try every year to challenge Roe v Wade via legislation are not going to ban abortion if Roe v Wade is overturned is on par with the delusion that going to Iraq was a good idea.

7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week, 50 weeks per year. So weekdays 9 to 5, with a 1/2 hour lunch break, and 2 weeks vacation. Now get yourself a roommate to split your rent, you’ll have $325/month for expenses.
See, some of us actually DID this in college instead of just whining about it, and we learned mathematics while we were there. Since then we’ve worked for three different companies building a nice resume and we now make enough money to enjoy life.
We live the American Dream. We don’t beg for handouts. We don’t whine that life is unfair and demand that someone fix all our problems.
And ultimately, WE are the ones who will decide this election. Not the crying&wailing liberals on the left. Not the fear-mongering conservatives on the right. We will make an assessment of the candidates based on the issues and choose one.
Do I like either of them? Not really. They’re both politicians at heart and will say anything to get elected. The real question therefore is: what will they DO once elected.
I don’t think Obama really believes in anything. I liked McCain in 2000, before he got Bushwhacked and before he became the republicrony he is today. My hope is that once he’s elected, we’ll see more of the old McCain and less of the new one.
As far as Palin/Biden, WHO CARES? They’re just the VP candidates, and they won’t have nearly the pull that Chaney does with Bush. They’ll be more like Al Gore – along for the ride, and useful for opening malls.
Thus, at this point I support McCain. Is that a final answer, no change possible? No. But I’ll need more than pretty words from Obama to change my mind.

Obama has a campaign steamroller machine that surprised Hillary’s supporters. One day, she was up 30%, the next day only 10%. Biden said he would give someone a bloody nose as a kid, and he is ready to fight. Obama still has the massive press favoritism coverage in his favor. Today, Obama even had the press out fundraising for him. Remember prior 3rd world countries’s elections with some countries claiming outside interference in their elections process, well now, courtesy of Obama, the muslim nations are interferring in our election process.

What scares me about Palin is her reigniting the culture wars just when America was starting to at least appear to move beyond that ugly era. There is no place in Washington for someone who is so overtly religious about her politics, particularly when she has such extremist positions. If a politician actually believes that a war is God’s will…specifically she said that the war effort in Iraq is “from God”…he/she should not say that out loud. It sounds, for lack of a better way of putting it, what someone in the middle east would say about the war against America. While faith is deep, I DO NOT believe God involves him/herself in wars nor favors one group over another. We are fighting that type of extremism, not trying to emulate it!!!!

As a working white catholic woman – no way Palin.
No substance, and her words do not align with the whole story. How easy to take credit for outcome when it wasn’t your idea. Pork barrel – Hey Palin – how is that road to nowhere where the bridge would have gone and the hockey rink with 1.7 million of debt, that even Anchorage does not have, raised taxes and what else?

Jessica,
While I don’t think God takes sides in political wars, I do think God takes sides in fighting evil. If blowing up civilians, women, and children because you don’t agree with their political views isn’t evil, I don’t know what is. I believe this is what Governor Palin was trying to say.
Have a great day!

So much for family values. With a down syndrome baby to take care for, why isn’t Palin being a mother to this child, instead of letting her pregnant daughter to care for the child? Seems to me she is putting herself before her children. A good mother puts her children first and before herself.

Anyone that has the audacity to believe that GOD wants America to attack and kill humans other countries to get it’s OIL has perverted the teachings of the Bible to such an extent that their beliefs in Christianity need to be questioned. Sarah Palin believes Iraq to be a religious war and will hasten her churches eagerly awaited “End of Days”. The religious right is calling for McCain to embrace her views… she’s a danger to our country, our freedoms and future.

They recently showed on the evening news about how much embellishment, lies & 1/2 truths about Sarah Palin & her “accomplishments” are. 1)that the airplane jet she sold on e-bay was through/to an airline broker & that they acually LOST $$ on that. 2)that the chef she s’posedly got rid of is now BACK serving the legislature 3)that she was initially FOR the “bridge to nowhere” & other pork-barrel spending when she was mayor 4)that she was able to lower (property) taxes…..but only by increasing the state sales taxes. I’ve also heard (besides “Troopergate”)that she had had an affair w/ her husband’s friend/business partner (which Todd s’posedly disconnected himself from). Also, she is against ANY type of stem cell research (embryo or not). Also, (and this would not s’prise me)is that she was trying to hide her daughter’s pregnancy initially-wanted Bristol to lie about the due date,so that Bristol would’ve been married to baby-daddy BEFORE the convention.Bristol did NOT want to lie, which shows that she may possibly have more character/integrity than her mother does. Boy,those Repubs (& Sarah herself) sure seem to pat her on the back for all her “accomplishments.”

Hussein was the author of the killing fields of men, women and children which would have contiued if the United States and her allies fought to end these massacres! To that end, the war was a war necessary evil for the salvation of these people. For those of you who are so anti-war, will you come to the aid of America if Russia decided to attack or would you just surrender? Obama is right. It isn’t just about gender. Palin has shown that she is the agent of constructive change that Obama had been made out to be by the New York news media. And Obama’s track record, as much as the New York news media has tried to hide it, has shown that he is not.

Posted by: ragnar30066 | September 9, 2008, 7:46 pm 7:46 pm

Obama is right. “This white woman” isn’t going near the GOP’s choice for VP or President. If McCain could change Washington,( as he claims heis going to) he would have already. IF he had any “choice” at all, he’d have picked Lieberman. ( not that I like zLieberman either) but this is the point. McCain bent to the fanatic wing of his failed party who has ruined America and set us back decades on womens rights and has the world laughing at us..Millions showed up in Europe because they “thought” “Maybe Americans aren’t as stupid as we assumed if they’d pick such a man as Obama”..But some idiot voters will “show them”, right??. God help us!! Real women will NOT vote for McCain or Palin…but then if the media would do it’s job and investigate the truth is right there for even a novice reporter or lazy anchor..I miss when the media had integrity and actually did some investigating on people who are supposed to “lead us”.. Media is not always telling the truth. I for one do NOT believe Palin is liked by even a large part of her party. I KNOW some friends who are GOP and they will NOT vote for her or McCain..where are their votes? Media lies all the time, their owners make them, the President makes them, or he has them fired ..We need to regulate media and the Banks again for our own safety. Don’t you people know WE are paying for the fall out of the GOP rape of our treasury in Banking frauds? The polls are wrong, or lies..

Posted by: Lynda | September 9, 2008, 7:49 pm 7:49 pm

Why don’t we hear of the polls collecting and posting the statistics of “women of color” in addition to “white women”.
I have casually polled women of color, and particularly African-American women, unlike the traditional polls, that poll “white women”, and with the exception of a few, most cannot identify with Palin; probably because these women, who are wives and mothers have traditionally worked outside the home because of need, and balanced both – no brainer – no big deal. Most can not bring their children to work, and while the culture has transcended somewhat, too many call-ins to an employer in the morning or, calls from a school during the day, because a child is sick, may get them placed on probabtion and/or fired.
You try it; ask women of color, if they clearly relate to Palin. They are not lipstick-wearing hockey moms with the characterictics of a pit bull. It is my belief that they will NOT vote for the McCain-Palin ticket.

Sarah Palin is the absolutely worst thing that could have happened to the women’s movement. She is a token choice- just like Geraldine Ferraro, if her name had been Samuel instead of Sarah, she never would have been chosen for McCain’s running mate. It’s insulting that she was chosen simply because she was a woman. When the wrong woman is put in to a position of power, and she proves herself to be an airhead, then she hurts all women. Look in to the failed governorship of the pathetic Kathleen Blanco in Louisiana. she was helpless during hurricane Katrina. Hillary, on the other hand, is extremely bright and well educated, and vastly more experienced. Palin is none of these things. She’s a communication journalism type of person, a former beauty queen and local TV personality sportscaster- with no knowledge of history or political science. Lord knows what courses she took in those 5 colleges, or even what kind of grades she made! McCain’s (former GW Bush trainers) can’t just tutor someone like a monkey and expect them to do tricks, especially on a national stage. She will fail miserably, once the public see that there are no brains behind the charm. Why do you think they are sequestering her like no other VP candidate in history. Even Dan Quayle took questions from the press, the day after his convention. You can shield her forever. We will eventually find out just how shallow her knowledge of everything needed to perform the job of President, should McCain meet his maker in the next 8 years.

After Palin graduates from grooming school, she will be appropriately and sufficiently programmed to respond spontaneously to media questions as a Stepford doll.

You can’t keep lying and think that you will get away with it. Obama, you are sinking and sinking fast. Either get rid of Biden and take Hillary as a vp or change to another plan. This is coming from a McCain supporter. I can’t believe this man got this far and made one of the dumbest moves in history in not choosing Hillary. He saw she had a massive support engine behind her. Biden had only 1% support when running for President during the primaries. But, I know why he did not pick Hillary; it is his hating Hillary wife. His own wife lost him the presidency.

It seems to me that Palin is George Bush in a dress. Her positions and demeanor are the same, maybe even worse. The same easily fooled people who wanted Bush because they “wanted to have a beer with him” types, now have Palin, the “I’m really just like you”. These are not very bright people. They can’t even see the resemblance, and the rest of us have suffered because of their blindness and laziness to get through the American Idol image and JUST LOOK AT THE FACTS. They don’t like facts. They just want to pretend everything’s OK and after the election start again to whine about our government. You know, the government THEY CHOSE, the one that will continue to screw them over and exploit their religious beliefs. The one that plays them like a fiddle every four years. I, for one, am sick of the Republicans and I’m sick of these mindless folks who have held this country hostage since Ronald Reagan. There’s a reason education is notoriously bad in the South, it’s so the Republicans can win elections. The better educated people in metropolitan places aren’t as easily fooled because they learned “critical thinking” in their schools and make their decisions based on evidence, not fairy tales.

The recent polls are problematic, since they equalize Dems and Reps, even though there are 11 million more registered Dems than Reps in America. Still, McCain definitely got a bounce from his convention and selection of Palin. But people don’t know Palin yet. She is against abortion in all cases, including rape and incest. She belongs to a church that teaches we are living in the “end times” (which they say is a good thing). She believes the war in Iraq is God’s plan. She believes a new oil pipeline in Alaska is part of God’s plan. She was for the “Bridge to Nowhere” before she was against it (and lied about her role in stopping it). She does not believe global warming is caused by mankind. She won’t answer questions or accept interviews. What else does she think? McCain says he’s a maverick against his own party, but it’s absolutely clear he picked Palin to appease the most conservative extremists in his party. He has no idea how to move the country forward and out of the mess we’re in.

The people who support Palin/McCain have no idea what they are talking about and get their ill informed talking points from Fox News and the RNC.
Palin is a hypocrite as is McCain. She has abused power from the moment she took over as mayor. She represents depravity not morality – she can have all the faith she wants as long as it stays out of the White House. The founding fathers did not want religion mixed into government.
McCain has no credibility after voting for torture, opposing everything before supporting it.
How do you take down lobbyists when the senior advisers to your campaign are lobbyists? How do you vociferously opposed the government bail out of Freddie and Fannie and then suddenly say Hoorah to it?
How can anyone believe Palin capable of formulating any opinion on National or Foreign Affairs when she needs Joe LIEberman as a coach, when she said on record she hasn’t paid attention to Iraq and when she had no idea Fannie and Freddie were privately held until the bail out???? This is what you get when you bring in a secessionist supporter who is waiting for Armageddon!!
WAKE UP AMERICA!! We can not afford Palin and McCain anywhere near the Oval Office. No Way. No HOw. No McCain. No Palin.

I agree. Who is Obama to criticize Palin (someone in the opposing political party) when he complained that Hillary (someone in Obama’s party) smeared him? What sort of a person would assume that a battle between two individuals who ultimately share similar goals is in any way different from a battle between two individuals in opposing parties? I can’t see the difference.
I also find it appalling and odd that people would attack a woman who is intelligent and experienced. Who are these people to question whether or not that she has these two qualities? Sad, really.

Posted by: NO_ONE_CARES | September 10, 2008, 12:38 am 12:38 am

miami voter Palin needs Lieberman?
Like Obama needed Biden to compensate for his lack of foreign policy experience? Obama has 300 foreign policy advisors, do you not think McCain can round Palin up a couple hundred? If you stop for a second
and quit listening to all the smear campaigns being directed from the left at this woman and actually do some factchecks or your homework, you’ll find her personal beliefs on social issues are not impacting her Governing in Alaska. This woman is a social conservative but she’s not the right wing whacko people are making her out to be. I thought some of the smear campaigns directed towards Obama were reprehensible but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite as bad as the one directed at Palin right now, and if people don’t believe the Obama camp (you know, the one’s who walk the moral higher ground) aren’t involved then you’re just naive or really young. I’m sure some of the stuff coming out of her church couldn’t be any worse then the Pastor of Obama’s church of 20 yrs saying that HIV is a genocidal plot of the Governments and that whites think from one side of their brain and blacks think from the other and schools are racist because they don’t accomodate that. McCain sided with Bush on torture? Do you even know what you are talking about? And let’s talk hypocrisy, if there’s anything or anyone that needs to be out with the old and in with the new it’s NOW, NARAL, Gloria Steinem and the total hypocrisy of the predominantly white, privileged feminist movement. I don’t agree with any of Palin’s views on social issues but that doesn’t mean I can’t admire this woman. The Dems and Repubs both have their bright, shining, up and coming stars and Obama and Palin are both representative of such. The Dems , in their wisdom, opted to put their newcomer at the top of the ticket and the Repubs to put their’s at the bottom. As Guliani pointed out, who I normally can’t stand, the pick of Biden was one that brings us to the past and the pick of Palin, one that brings us to the future. We have two relatively new, fresh, charismatic, skilled, intelligent young politicians who are both probably are not experienced enough to be on either ticket, but they are, and if I had to pick I’d rather go with the one on the bottom.

Far as I can tell, both parties are full of nuts. The election is not over until Nov. 5. Who knows what will happen between now and then? Will America vote for for change or remain the same with McCain and Palin? Palin not really an issue, just another bump in the road for Obama. Adversity builds character. I believe that Americans are too smart and too tired to fall for this new spin of the GOP. Open the booths on Nov 4 and come out voting!!!

Definition of insanity – doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. If you want to REALLY change the output, you have to change the input.
What I see happening is that people are, at the eleventh hour, leaning towards voting for the devil they know (McCain and Palin) than the one they don’t know. People SAY they want change, but in reality, they are afraid of it.

Has anybody heard about Gov. Palin’s speech to a High School in Alaska? She asked the students to pray for the Iraq war. She Said, “This is God’s war”. So tell me people what is the difference between her and fanatic Muslims? I matter of geographic location. Don’t care if she is a woman or not, even if it was a man, still it would be “religious insanity”. And when she mentioned that there for the parents of children with special needs. Why nobody has thought to question why as a Mayor or Governor has never done anything for them in Alaska. After all, all she did was to sign on a bill worked out and presented by another Republican, nor her ideas or thoughts and in a very reduced scale. Wake up America she is just another corrupt old school politician dressed in wolf’s young skin. But still a wolf, an insincere, name calling and cynical liar.
Why are people so afraid to see things as they are? McCain has not put out a single idea in how to fix the mess Bush is leaving us it in; he is the worst president we ever had, while Obama has already put out a comprehensive plan for our woes.
Bush, Cheney and his cohorts in crime should be impeached and sent to Belgium to stand trial for their work crimes based on greed and moral corruption. This government is sickening, and I cannot wait to put out my American flag in the front yard when Obama becomes our President. He will be an outstanding President. DP

What´s the difference between Obama and Palin? Obama has no executive experience at all, he´s never been neither a mayor nor a governor. Palin has dealt with real problems and real people, she´s a down-to-earth woman. The only real people Obama knows are Ophra and George Clooney.

Palin is smart and intelligent and knows how to get things done. She is a breath of air in this campaign. She is a woman who is banned from Oprah, while DNC candidate Obama got on the show. Oprah refused equal-time because Palin doesn’t have an ‘O-shaped’ logo for her VP campaign, or maybe it was another reason.

Maybe I could rival Sarah Palin in the pitbull category. I smell fear – fear among the McCain/Palin supporters. Fear of change. They will vote for the devil they know – the ones they think are “just like them,” than take a chance on real change. Think you can run the country and get us out of the mess of the last eight years? Then vote for someone “just like” you. Of course, Trickle Down Economics has worked so well for Middle America, and there are WMDs in Iraq.

All this stupid talk about whether Palin should be home taking care of her kids! Why has no one asked her husband what he is doing? I saw him interviewed and he said he is at this time not working. He said if he goes back to work depends on how well his children are doing. What a man! He is not afraid to help his wife care for their children while she works.

Here’s what happened folks: After being spit on by my (former) party, the Clinton’s generously offered their support of Obama. They said all the things that the DNC said they should say. But their words did not obscure the truth: Obama cannot win without Clinton. This is not Clinton’s fault. This is not my fault. Many of her supporters will go with McCain because he is not GWB II–he is rejecting him and talking about putting dems and republicans in his cabinet. He will win over many undecided voters and the “disaffected” Clinton supporters. Don’t tell me that I have to vote for Obama because I am a registered Dem–I would not vote for any candidate who was so underhanded and arrogant towards the Clinton supporters (oh, gee, only 50% of the party). Let’s say only 10% vote for McCain–there goes your election Obama. One false, STUPID move, and this election is over. Ask yourself now, should Obama have asked Clinton to be is VP? Isn’t that what Democrats wanted because we really did want to win the White House (even though Michelle doesn’t like Hillary). It’s not that Obama doesn’t love his country, it’s that he just didn’t get it. A vote for Obama is a vote for sexism since nobody can explain why Biden was the more qualified VP pick. Thanks Obama and the DNC for handling the White House to the Republicans with your extreme arrogance. Newsflash Obama: Yes, we women voters matter and you will see how much your stupidity cost you in Nov (statistics of how many women crossed over to the Republicans or just stayed home out of disgust). A self-respecting woman cannot vote for a man who talks about women’s equality and then slams one of the greatest leaders of this country by sending her back to the Senate and choosing good old white, D.C.-entrenched insider Biden. Hypocrite. When the history (or shall we say “herstory”) of the 2008 election is written, it should be called: Obama: the man who could not share the spoltlight with her pantsuits. Fool.

Just like a Republican to hide before throwing insults and lies. For the one that said that McCain had “respect” for women, don’t you know about his crude remarks when told of a Navy woman being sexually attacked by her peers? What about how he womanized and drank around behind his first wife’s back? He fooled around with Cindy and even got his marriage license before divorcing his first wife who was recuperating still, after a car crash she was involved while he was a prisoner in Vietnam, and when he returned he said “she was fat and not the same physically as before” The man is a pig, a womanizer of the first order. Nobody with a brain can believe he respects women. Maybe he respects Cindy’s millions; because of her he has seven houses.
McCain is too old, he could die or his senility could progress and then we would be stuck with her. McCain is too old, he could die or his senility could progress and then we would be stuck with her; a not so smart vice president but a gynecological correct specimen for some female voters.

Alpaig52,the republicans are the ones who are starting the insults on palin..
they say these so called attacks on palin 1st,so that the dems can’t use them..
example:when it was 1st announced that she was running with mccain, the republicans quickly made up the “she should be home taking care of her kids/her family is not in this/they are attacking her daughter for her pregnancy”crap before any response on ms.palin was even thought of..
that way, they figure they could beat the dems to the punch and any inkling of those arguments that the dems would say would be the so called,”HA,I TOLD U SO”..
but, this is gonna be short lived..
and did u know that the polls are mainly trained in republican areas and and are not accurate this time around..
even when obama was picked as 4-6 points ahead,it was not accurate..
this will be A blowout election..
nobody has called me to see whom i am supporting, have they called u??

I listen to Fox and Hannity on Fox radio who either are so ignorant that they think that saying the same negative slogans repeatedly will brainwash us. Well, it has had the opposite effect because I realized they are targeting people they think are dumb by fast talking and making the same OLD comments on Ayers, Wright, and religious fears regarding Obama. Listen for yourself. I don’t care what day or time you tune in, listen for 2 minutes and you will hear how dumb they sound and how dumb they think America is. I am not buying it. I am for choice on Abortion, I am for more taxes on people who make more than $250,000, I am for improving education and ending the war in Iraq. It, for me, is about the issues. All of this talk of experience- no one has any on the job training for President. Bush followed his father and did a HORRIFIC job- so I want you to vote issues. Not out of hatred because Obama did not choose Hillary; not out of being smitten by a beautiful face and oratory skills, not for a sweet story: Vote on the issues- whatever your belief is. That is the intelligent thing to do. Know where you stand and choose a candidate that stands with you on those issues. Don’t get duked by all the media, the polls…read, think, VOTE!

Facts are so damn sexist!!! Facts are so damn unPatriotic to criticise McCain.
Facts should be ashamed of themselves for criticising a former:
(Pick One) __ POW
__ Hockey Mom
Facts are too damn liberal.

Are women flocking to Palin? Maybe, maybe not. We know that SOME group of people are flocking to McCain/Palin.
McCain was behind Obama by about 7 points a week and a half ago. Now McCain is ahead of Obama.

Whoever came up with the idea of playing the Hillary women deserves a medal, both for keeping the white house and giving us such comedy. I for one never would have thought it would work because while they are hideous to look at, I’d thought they were smart. I’ve taken to reading their blogs every day just for the freak show.I also think Johnny mac deserves a medal, for striking a blow for all men who want to pick women by our criteria, Just as Cindy reaches her sell-by date the old fox scores the highly decorative Sarah. Cigars in the oval office?/

I cannot understand these liberals who accept every promise that Obama makes as written in gold. Have you not ever been through a presidential campaign. Do you not know that promises are a dime a dozen but very few of those promises ever come to fruition, Were you born yesterday. The fact that you support taxing income over 250 grand is nice but Obama is unlikely to ever do such a thing. Every member of congress makes that kind of dough and michelle Barry certainly exceed that amount. You can’t vote based on promises, but rather you need to find someone of character and trust them to do the right thing. I mean, how sickening is it to watch Obama say he supports charter schools. We all know he would and could never abandon his ties to the teacher’s unions and that’s where his real support comes from. I believe that Liberals are generally better educated than their counterparts. So how can the liberals believe promises made during a political campaign. The first thing people from outside this country notices about our system of politics is that anything said during a campaign is fantasy and all americans accept that after the election is over.

Frank,
What I dont get is robots like you that vote against their best interests. I for one did not see anyone that looked like me at the RNC or any real issues that affect me discussed there. McCain has nothing except he was a poor POW. Just take one look at AZ and you can see why he’s not worthy of being POTUS.

Please don’t let me hear one more time how she told Congress, “thanks, but no thanks on that Bridge to Nowhere”. Doesn’t Palin have anything else to offer us? This is our future, people. Our Country’s future is at stake in this election. We need to think really hard about where we are going and right now we are going down the toilet very fast. You want to flush one more time and get us totally into the sewer? Then vote McCain/Palin. That should do it.

What had Obama done for Illinois? First term Senator had spent most of his term campaigning. He would not even help our Futuregen project to produce new energy, thousands of jobs for Central Illinois. LOST

Well, we’re not stupid. It takes more than ovaries to get women to vote for another woman. I don’t understand why ANY of Hillary Clinton’s supporters would consider Palin – she doesn’t match up on the issues that Clinton holds dear.

I keep trying to find what Obama has done for Chicago and am still coming up empty.
What are his achievments as a Senator for a very large troubled state? Outside of voting “present” all the time?
One of these news mediums should be able to compile that for the voters instead of all this pig and lipstick bashing.

What Hillary was doing at the Democratic Convention
Hillary Clinton is getting ready for 2012. Hillary and her supporters know she will need Obama’s supporters to win the 2012 Presidential election. Obama’s supporters now believe Hillary is doing everything she can to get Obama elected. Obama and his supporters will have to support Hillary in 2012 if he loses this election. So far everything is going as planned.
Hillary is doing what she has to do to get elected in 2012. Now we need to do our part by making sure Obama loses this election.
None of this has changed who Obama is. Obama used the race card to imply both Hillary and Bill Clinton are racist. Michelle Obama has never been proud of America and believes America is a mean country. Obama flip flops every time the polls change and will do or say anything to get elected. Nothing has change the fact Obama and Michelle belonged to an anti-American racist church for 20 years. Etc, etc, etc.
Obama had the stage he is gave his convention speech on built to look like a temple but Obama is not GOD.

We are voting for McCain, who has promised to put both Dems and Repubs in his cabinet. Obama lost me on his “change” message when he picked Biden as VP over Hillary. I can’t support that choice and its sexist message.

Hillary’s only chance is 2016 after an Obama victory.
An incumbent Palin would stomp her. Hillary needs conservative women to make up for those she alienated with her Tonya Harding/hardwoking white people gutter campaign

I never liked either JM or BO and I am a 48 YO white woman. I didn’t vote for either one in the primary. I, like lots of others I know didn’t vote. This was the first year that I remember not doing that and I’ve voted for over 20 years.
Sarah Palin will be the first woman Vice President/president and it will be my great joy to vote for her. It’s time for a change, and this is her.
We will have a black President someday when he is nominated, but right now BO is just too lib and too naive about running this country.
Now, Sarah Palin is a PROVEN leader, look what she has done for Alaska and they love her, she has a 80% approval rating! The highest in the whole USA. She will be an asset to John McCain as they battle DC together. Palin shook up her own party in Alaska and I believe she will do the same in Washington regardless of politics or party.
Our President has a 30% approval rating and if anything could be worse, it would be the congress at 9% approval rating and don’t forget Obama and Biden are part of THAT!

Just goes to prove, you can take the boy out of the Ghetto but you can’t take the Ghetto out of the boy. Barry is a Fraud and always has been a FRAUD!!! America is finally waking up to this fact. Thank God!!!!!

I voted for Huckabee in the primary. Going to vote for Mccain in the general. I don’t trust Barack Obama or his associates and reading through these posts just confirms it.

I have a republican supervisor and she was so stoked over Palin being named as Mc Bush’s running mate that she forgot all about my “Women for OBAMA” sticker and ran into my office saying “now those Democrats have a fight on their hands”, I agreed. Truly we do have a fight if we allow the obvious to persuade us. The obvious such as Palin is being Pimped by the Republican Party.
Palin is part of the Ole’ Boys Club with the exception that she wears lipstick.

I laugh when people say that they are independents and are now voting for Palin. Now that’s a Joke.
What about the enviroment? What about the War?

Posted by: TRUDEMWOMAN | September 10, 2008, 3:32 pm 3:32 pm

Don’t fall for it, folks. I don’t know any women who have indicated that they admire the McCain VP candidate on any level. Most women I know were for Obama in the primary, but those who were Hilalry supporters are now fully supportive of Obama.

It is crystal clear that OBAMA fanatics aim at silencing peoples and do not respect the freedom of speech and the principles of democracy.
These activists are extremists and dangerous.
They aim to idolize a human who is frequently at fault. The party is biased and is afraid to have voices of people heard and votes of poeple count.

Obama was raised up by a single woman not forgeting his grandparents they did a good job. In him I see a caring human being not one who married into money. A vote for Obama will bring back America from the liars and give a chance to all.

Did anybody ever think maybe Obama asked Hillary to be on his ballot but she declined, be serious, Hillary is strong willed and its either her way or no way( I love her for that) she will most likely serve on the U.S Supreme Court one day. Please I am a 20 year old female this will the first election I will be voting in, I truly believe that Obama is a better candidate, Yes McCain has Palin, but look at the issues, Palin is a female but she still believe in the same policies as do McCain, just because she is a female does not mean she bring a softer/nurturing side to the table,( on a side note people have gotten to Obama’s supporters for talking about palin’s family but since when has it become ok for a 17 year old to become pregnant, our society has come to tolerated to much mediocrity from its young adults and as a young adult I am completely appalled) I know it is difficult for a majority of this country to see a black become president but we must put that behind us and focus on the issues, health care, taxes, energy crises and the war AND REMEMEBER THE ISSUES DOES NOT INCLUDE WHO CAN MAKE HISTORY AND IN WHAT WAY. The Republicans I tell you are smart and placing a distracter , I mean no offense PEOPLE we need to wake up, they place a female VP in front of us and we forget the issues, we forget the war that our love are in , being deploy time after time and some of whom we have lost, we forget that the senator /house of representative, Governors ,,ct. .. we vote to represent us have better health coverage then we do and we are the one paying for it with our tax money, we forget that it use to cost $1.50 per gallon to fill our gas tank and now it cost us in some areas $4.50, let us not forget what we are here to do. Let’s not forget the jobs that we have lost, the immigrants are not really who we are losing jobs to it’s the company we ship overseas because labor is cheaper WE ARE NOT HERE TO MAKE HISTORY AS WE MAKE HISTORY EVERYDAY THAT PASSES WE ARE HERE TO MAKE A CHANGE, A CHANGE THAT SAYS WE ARE THE PEOPLE OF THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD AND WE ARE TAKING THIS INTO OUR OWN HANDS. Please people be informed on the issues, SARHAH PALIN TRIED TO PUT A CENCORSHIP ON LIBRARY BOOKS but proposed the construction of a municipal sports center to be financed by a 0.5% sales tax increase. In 2002, term limits prevented Palin from running for a third term as mayor. During her six years as mayor, general government expenditures increased by more than 33 percent while the amount of taxes collected by the city increased by 38 percent. The city’s debt went from nothing to $22 million, of which $15 million is attributed to the sports complex and $5.5 million attributed to municipal bonds to finance road projects. I want everybody to think about this. Yes she can make changes but what kind of changes are we advocating…an increase in debt. LOOK AT THE FACTS PLEASE I BEG YOU.

I want to comment on the statmnt made about Sarah Palin’s 80% approval rating, and “proved success” in governing Alaska. Has it ever occured to you that Alaskan’s have to approve of her, or she’ll have them fired!!!
Come on people get serious, how is this woman qualified to “lead the free world”? And what about the blatant lies she told in her acceptance speech, regarding turning down funds from congress to support the “bridge to nowhere” project. Do your homework!
God forbid this amazing country’s majority is comprised of people stupid enough to not only re-elect Bush (guess his popularity rating is high as well?)but hasn’t yet learned enough to realize that McCain and Palin are no better!

We are tired of being manipulated by Roe v Wade. When will women wake up and realize both parties have been using this as a way to control our vote. For that reason it will never be repealed.
If we really want to promote womens rights we need to support all women. Sarah Palin has not forced her religious beliefs on anyone. Obama, however has exhibited sexism throughout his campaign. As a Hillary Clinton volunteer, I was horrified by what I saw the Obama campaign and democrats do to her. I will not stand by and allow the same thing to happen to another woman. As Hillary stated; womens rights are human rights. Without human rights, there is no true democracy, and therefore empowering women trumps any political platform, right or left. We need to put aside our political beliefs this election and work to get a woman in office in order to promote ALL women’s issues. Only then will women attain equality and true democracy be possible.

I find Robin R’s comments supporting Palin based on Women’s rights being about human rights when McCain supports torture a shining example of the cognitive dissonance out there among women voting McCain, who btw is on the top of the ticket. Where has McCain/Palin moved in any way towards chapioning a position on human rights besides his flip-flop on abortion? What you are seeing in the polls are Women for Bush who claimed to be undecided until Lady Madonna took the stage. Where are these numbers indicating Hillary voters moving to McPiggin?

People vote on LIKES – pure and simple–someone who they see a reflection of themselves in. This race is a pure example of that. I read reports that women who are pro-choice are liking Palin- cause well.. she’s a friend- they connect. Animal-rights advocates are willing to look the other way.. cause well.. if someone smiles at you– your heart just melts.
Sad or not, sometimes this is the way the world works.
I’ve seen it in the work-world all the time. I’ve sat near the “big-boys” and “big-ladies” for decades who make the decision. Let me tell you.. the person who gets the promotion is the one they LIKE among a team of equally qualified and even more brilliant candidates. Then they justify that person’s qualifications based on that. I’ve seen people who are brilliant- truly brilliant- but somehow they could never get anyone to “like them”.. and sadly, they disappear in the workworld in the bottom of the corp chain.

Posted by: Ravs | September 11, 2008, 11:24 am 11:24 am

Et.. tu Brutus!!
Biden has been strangly silent over all this Palin hype. I just read a recent report that Biden indicated that Palin is a personal friend and a wonderful person (!!!).. and she was even a better pick than him (!!). ((Had a bad feeling about Biden when he said.. finally.. a ‘clean looking’ black ,etc. etc.). Talk about the Reb shrwedness- they probably chose Palin, knowing Biden’s softness for her- so it would be an easy-win.
Oh.. so this it then? Friends with everyone – so no one can go aginst her and play fair? Palin reminds me of the “popular person” in the corp world. She’s sooooooooo nice (that’s her trademark)… that you pick her on your team to do the job- not because she’s the best because you like her. The boss gives her the promotions not because she had the highest turn-out sales or is particulary brilliant– but because everyone he and everyone likes her!
I’ve seen people getting promotions and winning over their enemeies by pure friendship– and frankly, it works. Via your smiles, get people to view mountains of your molehill projects– then nurse the people who worked overtime back to health with your smiles and baked-cookies.

I agree with Obama. I haven’t heard any women say they are were swayed by the Palin choice. Since when did the election become about getting a woman into the White House, or voting for the Republicans because “I just like her. She’s like me.” Is this why women fought for, and then won, the right to vote? So we could vote someone into office simply because she’s a woman, rather than considering who is really the best candidate? So we could vote for someone because “I just like” her? If this were true – and as I said I agree with Obama that this is generally indeed not true – I don’t think it is what Elizabeth Cady Stanton had in mind.

Posted by: Jill | September 12, 2008, 1:13 am 1:13 am

Ask not what your Country can do for you, but what you can do for your Country.
McCain and Palin are true examples of courage: Without a shadow of a doubt, McCain gave to his country true courage; and Palin supports her family members who do so as well. Palin lives by her principles- raising 5 children, including- yes- the 5th!
If the Status Quo is Courage, Honor and Integrity, then let it rule and shine!
