Obama Pushes Rescue Plan … Lays Off McCain

ABC News’ John Berman, Sunlen Miller, and Ursula Fahy report: Barack Obama delivered a rarity today in Reno, Nevada.  After days of hammering John McCain, trying to tie him to the Bush administration, and suggesting he doesn’t understand the problems facing the country, Obama held a rally today, delivering a full  36-minute speech where he didn’t once mention the name “John McCain.”

“There will be time to punish those who set this fire,” he said, “but now is the moment for us to come together and put the fire out.”

Obama used the speech at the University of Nevada, Reno to try build public support for the economic rescue plan being discussed in Washington, and put pressure on Congress to act.

“It is not a time for politicians to concern themselves with the next election,” Obama told the crowd,  “It is a time for all of us to concern ourselves with the future of the country we love. This is a time for action.”

And in his speech, he leaned on members from both parties.

“To the Democrats and Republicans who opposed this plan yesterday, I say – step up to the plate and do what’s right for this country.”

While Obama had been in touch with President Bush, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Democratic House leaders, aides say he did not make any calls to push for Democratic votes before the failed vote Monday.  Now, campaign officials refuse to say whether he is making directs pleas to wary members.

Obama also made a more direct sales pitch to voters than he has in recent days, trying to persuade of the risks of not taking action.  “What it means is that thousands of businesses could close. Millions of jobs could be lost. A long and painful recession could follow,” he said.

He also tried to put the cost of the plan in perspective, “This is not a plan to just hand over $700 billion of your money to a few banks on Wall Street. If this is executed the right way, then the government will temporarily purchase the bad assets of our financial institutions so that they can start lending again, and then sell those assets once the markets settle down and the economy recovers.”

Obama offered a new policy proposal in the speech, raising the Federal Deposit Insurance limit to $250,000 from where it stands at $100,000 right now.

It’s an idea Republicans say they first brought up last week.

McCain has also recommended increasing the FDIC’s insurance coverage to $250,000.

In a statement, House Republican Leader John Boehner said, “The presidential candidates’ support for increasing the FDIC cap is welcome news. Increasing the FDIC cap is a proposal put on the table by Roy Blunt and House Republicans but ruled out by Democrats during the negotiations that led to yesterday’s unsuccessful vote.”

Nevertheless, Obama asked for other ideas too.

“That’s one idea. If there are others that can help shore up support for this plan and shore up our economy, I encourage both parties, Democrats and Republicans to offer them.”

He concluded, “We can’t have another day like yesterday.”

UPDATE: Obama campaign spokeswoman Linda Douglass now says that "yes" Obama is making calls to lobby members. She would not say which members or how many, but she did say that it is being done in consultation with the House leadership.

Will Obama “Punish” Jim Johnson, Franklin Raines and the ACORN gang, as they are what started this???
An ACORN Falls from the Tree
Ken Blackwell
Tuesday, September 30, 2008
As negotiations over Congress’s emergency rescue bill continued over the weekend, repeated rumors leaked out that the Democrats were trying to funnel money to a hyper-partisan organization involved in criminal voter fraud. I’m speaking of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now — known by its acronym, ACORN. Although ACORN was cut from the final legislation, it’s important to understand this organization and its long history with, of all people, Barack Obama. And it’s important to see how partisan this emergency legislation has become.
As the weekend progressed, reports were constantly emerging of the sticking points preventing a final agreement. One of these reputed points of contention was whether 20 percent of the profit proceedings for asset sales in the future would go to what is called the Housing Trust Fund, subsidizing certain groups for ostensibly nonpartisan activity. One of these groups that this trust supports is ACORN.
ACORN has often been in the news since 2004. Officially, they work to register voters and support housing. In reality, everyone in public life knows that they are hardcore supporters for the Democratic Party, and employ bare-knuckle tactics. Their organization is plagued by repeated investigations of voter fraud and other crimes.
In Ohio, where as secretary of state I oversaw elections for eight years, ACORN has been busy. One ACORN man in Reynoldsburg was indicted on two felony counts of voter fraud, and another was indicted in Columbus. Other such problems surfaced in Cuyahoga County, where criminal investigations are ongoing.
It’s not just Ohio. ACORN personnel are facing criminal charges in over a dozen states. In Washington State, for example, seven ACORN leaders had felony charges filed against them for voter fraud.
And there’s an unexpected twist. One of the organizations accused of pushing banks into making many of the unwise loans at the heart of the current crisis is … ACORN. Now that’s ironic. An organization that possibly contributed to our current financial profits is now being considered to make money off of it. And by “money,” I’m referring to your tax money.
Twice already this year Congress has funneled money to ACORN. Some report that February’s economic stimulus included funds for ACORN, as did the bill to help people struggling with mortgages passed this April.
What deserves closer scrutiny is Barack Obama’s history with ACORN. Obama cites Saul Alinsky, a self-acknowledged radical who advocated extreme acts to achieve social goals, as one of his inspirations.
ACORN follows the Saul Alinsky model. After Obama graduated from Harvard, he went to work for ACORN in Chicago. Mr. Obama then became a trainer for ACORN, teaching others how to employ ACORN tactics in voter registration drives.
This ACORN involvement coincides with the increasing partisanship of this situation.
Congressional Democrats, and specifically Mr. Obama, are now saying that the problem underlying all this is “deregulation,” pushed by the Republicans. There are two fundamental flaws with this allegation.
First, this is not deregulation. This is not the private sector. Fannie and Freddie are government creations, that pay their executives millions of dollars but are shielded with your tax money from suffering the downside risk of the market. Engage in racetrack-style financing, they must be strictly controlled. Deregulation is about keeping government from hobbling the private sector and hamstringing its ingenuity and productivity. Deregulation does not apply.
Second, Republicans have tried to rein in Fannie and Freddie. Republican attempts to reform them in 1999 failed. In 2003, when Alan Greenspan testified about how Fannie and Freddie’s loose practices could endanger our financial system, it was Democrat Barney Frank who said these institutions were fundamentally sound, and should be more aggressive in getting loans to low-income people. In 2005, a Republican reform passed the Senate Banking Committee on a party-line vote, only to be blocked by Democrats from passing the full Senate. And in 2006 when John McCain spoke on the Senate floor of the need to reform Fannie and Freddie immediately, Democrats (including Barack Obama) would not respond.
You can also see where Fannie and Freddie look for protection by where they direct their money. Public records show that the top two recipients of Fannie/Freddie campaign contributions are Sens. Chris Dodd and Barack Obama, taking $165,000 and $126,000, respectively. Dodd, who chairs the Senate Banking Committee, and Mr. Obama, who says he’s going to remedy the whole situation.
It suddenly seems so clear why Democrats want ACORN to get some of the taxpayers’ money. I have unapologetically criticized Republicans, some by name, for out-of-control spending, lack of accountability, and other inexcusable actions that have tarnished the GOP and disserved the nation. And there are other issues that are either both parties’ fault, or no one’s fault.
But here, the Democrats are squarely to blame. They have resisted all attempts at reforming Fannie and Freddie, and pushed those organizations to become ever more reckless in their policies. This made the investments on Wall Street carrying those tainted mortgages go from bad to worse, and now we’re in a crisis and on the verge of a meltdown.
This is inexcusable. And if independent voters figure this out, their outrage over this situation will suddenly be directed against the party that pushed these disastrous policies. So Democrats want ACORN to get as much funding as possible, because they might need some new votes in their column on Election Day.
Voter fraud is in one sense the worst crime against democracy. The sole means of democratically choosing leaders is through voting. Every voter gets an equal vote. Every citizen who is a law-abiding adult has an equal voice in who will govern us. Our vote is sacred. Those engaging in voter fraud are in one sense no different than who intimidated voters at the polls in years past. Voter fraud may not be attended by the suffering that accompanied the beatings and water hoses of those days, but the assault on democracy is no less real.
ACORN is a discredited organization, and far too many of its leaders and workers have been prosecuted for felonies against democracy. The idea that a single dime of taxpayer money would ever go to such a group is an outrage.
And Mr. Obama needs to explain his involvement with them.

“to punish those who set this fire…”
And what punishment does he recommend for himself, for all of the high-risk home loans he managed to shake banks and other lending agencies down for in Chicago during his days as a “community organizer” for ACORN?

This man deserves to be our President. It was an inspiring speech. He was telling Pelosi and those crazy Newt-followers to come back to reality and do what’s best for our country. I don’t know what America did to deserve this man but I’m glad we have him.

Finally adult supervision.

Posted by: Sandra | September 30, 2008, 1:54 pm 1:54 pm

This is the bill we need!!! thanks to whomever posted this!
Found this while on a blog.
I received this in my email today and this would be the best way to initiate economic recovery country wide. I wish I would have thought of it.
I’m against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.
Instead, I’m in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend.
To make the math simple, let’s assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.
Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child.
So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..
So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.
My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.
Of course, it would NOT be tax free.
So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%.
Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.
That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.
But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.
A husband and wife has $595,000.00.
What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college – it’ll be there
Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car – create jobs
Invest in the market – capital drives growth
Pay for your parent’s medical insurance – health care improves
Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else
Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.
If we’re going to re-distribute wealth let’s really do it…instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( “vote buy” ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.
If we’re going to do an $85 billion bailout, let’s bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!
As for AIG – liquidate it.
Sell off its parts.
Let American General go back to being American General.
Sell off the real estate.
Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.
Here’s my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn’t.
Sure it’s a crazy idea that can “never work.”
But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!
How do you spell Economic Boom?
I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion
We Deserve It Dividend more than I do, the geniuses at AIG, or in Washington DC.
And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5
Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.
Ahhh…I feel so much better getting that off my chest.
Best regards,
Birk
T. J. Birkenmeier, A Creative Guy & Citizen of the Republic
PS: Feel free to pass this along to your pals as it’s either good for a laugh or a tear or a very sobering thought
on how to best use $85 Billion!!”

I want my president to be decisive and to have a good judgment.
I want my president to say “God bless America” not be a follower and surrogate of a hateful pastor who declares “God damn America” from the pulpit.
I want my president to respect small town people like me who happen to be religious.
I want my president to have a spouse who has always been proud of being an American (not just because her husband became a presidential candidate).
I want a president who can make me a proud American and not one who keeps telling me that the glory days of my beloved country are over.
I want a president who tells me that the fundamentals of American greatness are still solid.
I want a president who can stand with the motto: “My country! right or Wrong!”
I want a president who will never belittle America and the American people when he is with foreigner leaders and people.
I am a proud democrat and will always be one. However, what my party leadership did in the primaries is inexcusable. The careless Democratic party leaders pushed Senator Hillary Clinton, the one with a certain chance to defeat McCain, out of the race.
Above my being a democrat, I am a proud American. Therefore, on November 4, I will be crossing party lines and vote for Senator John McCain. McCain at least has the experience and the record to be a great president. His personal story and achievements make me proud of my country.
That’s the kind of president I want.
McCain 2008. Hillary 2012.

THAT’S THE WAY TO DO IT!
Again, I’ll point this out, the Dems delivered their votes like they agreed to. No reason for Obama (or anyone else) to call around to get more.
He admits that we shouldn’t be happy about this, but its got to be done or it will get worse. He says its not over after this bill passes. Its just the start. Gee…that’s sounds realistic.
Finally a candidate who is in touch with reality, and not trying to make up his own alternative one.

Barack Obama, the only change is what’s gonna be stolen from you to be given to the wealthy… He just lost my vote, I don’t care what my friends and family say. I can’t forgive a man who sells out the privacy of Americans and blows up the savings of the middle class and the poor to subsidize the bankers on Wall St. AFTER they have been exposed for criminal acts. THAT’S OBAMA’S WHOLE PLAN??????
well it didn’t work when the limit was increased in 2006 for retirement accounts.
FDIC Insurance for Retirement Accounts Increased to $250,000
Higher coverage takes effect April 1; Basic insurance limit for other accounts stays at $100,000
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 14, 2006 Media Contact:
David Barr (202) 898-6992
dbarr@fdic.gov
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Board of Directors today approved final rules that will raise the deposit insurance coverage on certain retirement accounts at a bank or savings institution to $250,000 from $100,000. The increase, the result of a new law boosting federal deposit insurance coverage for the first time in more than 25 years, will become effective on April 1. The basic insurance coverage for other deposit accounts, however, will remain at $100,000.
“The increase in deposit insurance coverage on certain retirement accounts is a significant change,” said Martin J. Gruenberg, Acting Chairman of the FDIC. “The FDIC is committed to helping depositors understand clearly the change that has been made and how it will affect the deposit insurance coverage for which they are eligible.”
Under the FDIC’s new rules, up to $250,000 in deposit insurance will be provided for the money a consumer has in a variety of retirement accounts, primarily traditional and Roth IRAs (Individual Retirement Accounts), at one insured institution. Also included are self-directed Keogh accounts, “457 Plan” accounts for state government employees, and employer-sponsored “defined contribution plan” accounts that are self-directed, which are primarily 401(k) accounts. In general, self-directed means the consumer chooses how and where the money is deposited.
In addition, the IRAs and other retirement accounts that will be protected under the new rules to $250,000 are insured separately from other accounts at the same institution that will continue to be insured up to at least $100,000. To learn more about FDIC deposit insurance, see the resources listed later.
The new law also established a method by which the FDIC would consider an increase in the insurance limits on all deposit accounts (including retirement accounts) in the future, but only every five years starting in 2011. Any such increase would be based, in part, on inflation. Otherwise, accounts will continue to be insured as described above.

beck, just like the last time that joke was posted. 85 billion divided by 200 million is 425 not 425,000.
This is why we are a democratic republic and not a pure democracy, the american people are not well educated enough or well informed enough to make good decisions.
BTW McCain, this is how you make a speech about not laying blame when your intent is to actually not lay blame. McCain, how about you suspend your campaign until Nov. 5th? Spare us the embarrassment of the debate on thursday.

APPOINT A REPUBLICAN AND A DEMOCRAT MEMBER OF CONGRESS AS CO-SIGNERS ON ALL TTRANSACTIONS.
HAVE THE CO-SIGNERS SIT ON THE REVIEW BBOARD AND REPORT TO CONGRESS FOR TRANSPARENCY.
GIVE THE REVIEW BOARD THE POWER TO FREEZE THE PROGRAM IF IT IS NOT WORKING AAND TO SEND IT BACK TO CONGRESS FOR ADJUSTMENTS.

George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six the economy was fine.
Almost two years ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.
4) the DOW JONES hit a record high–14,000 +
5) American’s were buying new cars, taking cruises,
vacations overseas, living large!…
But American’s wanted ‘CHANGE’! So, in 2006 they voted in a
Democratic Congress and yes–we got ‘CHANGE’ all right. In the PAST YEAR:
1) Consumer confidence has plummeted ;
2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing!;

Looks like they have stopped the blame game for now.
You McCain supporters are the only ones on this blog who makes the comment saying, it’s about time, then continue slamming and attacking.
It’s obvious you’re nervous.
Get ready for the next President of the United States of America.
BARACK OBAMA….Wooooooooe hooooooo!!
You may continue on with repeating everything you have been watching on FOX…. If you run out of LIES, ahh, just make more up… It’s a McCain thang. LOL

beck – no i understand. he is doing all he can to help us. But the people that criticize him for it i dont get. He cant go in there and just say pass the bill now. ill be honest, i dont get the entire bailout thing, but I am trusting Obama to make the right decision for me. thats why we choose our leader…we want someone smart and has great judgement to make the best decision for me and my family. RIGHT?
So Mr. Obama I trust that you will indeed be looking out for me in the midst of all this.

Wow some of the morons on here today Let me ask you a question back what was it 3-4 yrs ago the President good ‘ol W and his bestest buddie John “I’m a maverick just ask anybody”McCain were pushing a privitizing of SS letting people put $ into wallstreet and having their own SS acounts imagine where those poor people would be if things keep going and puuting some of the gov money in the market so taxpayers would be on the hook for that too. Now thats sound Judgement .

geevil, the President should listen to others. His job will be to make decisions based on input and dissent. I know it’s confusing given the Decider you probably voted for in the last two elections.

As usual, Sen. Obama is parroting what others have already proposed, he is not a leader but a follower/thief trying to get political points any way he can. The liberal media upholds his hypocrisy. My suggestion is to not listen to the economical advisors/experts instead of politicians. Try CNBC’s network for market news. The Democrats jumped all over John McCain when he tried to help so why is the media not faulting Barack Obama for his intervention/stolen ideas?

Posted by: Wild | September 30, 2008, 2:11 pm 2:11 pm

It’s nice to see how magnificently disengaged he is.
All his speeches say how much better off we’ll all be once he is in power… but what about now? He can actually affect things now.
But then again, he has never done anyhting of real significance but weave a made-fot-TV narrative and point to that as his main qualifications.
He wants to lead – then he should practice before our eyes instead of just talk about how well he will do it.
Te Audacity of Hype!

You guys are hell bent on the media campiagning for Obama. SO WHAT?
who are you supporting? the media or McCain?
Why do you care whether the media’s rooting for Obama or McCain?
I say this election is all but done. Obama has a 6 point lead in most polls, Opening a wider lead in blue states and taking the lead in several critical red states.

You guys dwelling on ACORN are hilarious, and geevil’s redicule of inflating tires to save oil shows ignorance of an extreme magnitude. There seems to be a few people (an one comment that seems to be copied by a number of groupies) whose only goal is to tear down. They offer no positive suggestions or potential solutions. That is exactly why McCain is going down in the polls and Obama is going up. Personally, I like Senator Bernie Sanders solution… a surtax on everyone making over $1 million and a harsh cap on golden parachute rewards to CEOs of failed companies.
Now, for those naysayers, do you have a possible solution, or are you going to keep whining.

Retirement accounts are already insured up to $250,000. Of course it is yet another thing Obama doesn’t understand.

Posted by: geevill | September 30, 2008, 2:13 pm 2:13 pm

So Obama makes yet another speech in which he takes the ideas of others and calls them his own. This is news? Call me if Obama actually does anything like go and talk to the Black Caucus and persuade them to vote for the bill he wants. Or does the handout to ACORN have to be back in first?

Posted by: Keith | September 30, 2008, 2:13 pm 2:13 pm

I have a question for you..Will you punish yourself and all your fellow Democrats who have allowed this to happen? The republicans told us this would happen as far back as 2004-2005 and Democrats said everthing was fine and working great..They said the Leadership of Franklin Rains was just great and any attempt to say otherwise was a “political lynching” Obama admit on this one the Democrats were dead wrong! Then maybe I might have some respect for your pathetic lying party of all promise and no action. You expect us Americans to believe you really give a damn about us average Americans all any of you politicians care about is our tax dollars.

Stuff like, “shutup, that’s why you’re stupid”, all while tearing up…And the older brother or sister laughing, because they know its touching a nerve…That’s what Senator Obama is doing right now. All these attacks that I read in here, sounds like the sad realization of what is about to happen on Nov 4.

Posted by: Dem-4-Life | September 30, 2008, 2:18 pm 2:18 pm

/sigh
geevil, he’s not talking about the FDIC protecting retirement funds.
he’s talking about the FDIC insuring all bank funds up to $250,000. this would allow small businesses a cushion, not pidgeon-holing them into thinking they cannot spend money.
jobs could be saved, money could be injected into the economy.
it would help.
as would inflating your tires fully. do some research and you’ll find that this is a legitimate method of increasing gas mileage (by around 3%). if people did this overall, the US would save a lot of gas.
i’m sorry you seem to misunderstand these things… hopefully this helped.

Hell it takes 18-24 months for any laws or legistlature to come to have an effect so again how is it the dems fault if they did anything the president didn’t like VETO with no chance for override they even had help across the isle a couple of times the new GI bill ands a few others got thru but nothing that says we wanted this and got it thru and the consumer confidence thing being at an 2 1/2 yr high that wasn’t to hard to do after 9/11 when it went in the tank it had no where to go but up and do you really want to tout the DOW being at 14,000 and americans buying yachts and living large esp. now when we see how (GOP pushed de reg) and why do you really want to claim that as a good thing ?

Sure it plays into the Democratic play book.
What Greater thing for obama and the Democrats to own the banks. Far easier to take over the country, business and industry and nationalize everything.
Plus the Democrats added the many of their friends to the bill to make money off of. Like ACORN and the car manufactures.
This is getting scarier by the day.
Giving the democrats the banks, if they will the white house our country cease to exist as we know it.
It will be a socialist nationalized country, that would be communism.
Im sure obama old friends like Ayers and his new friends like soros are Screaming in Glee of the possibilities.
Transparancy in government needs to start here and now. laying all the details of this plan on the table for the American Citizens to understand and see all the details.
Other wise No to the bill…………
If the country is in Democratic Control owning the banks We will have no country, that you can depend on.
We the people will get screwed over big time. The poor and the middle class will be At their mercy forever.
No No No To the bill and Obama

As always Obama doesn’t come up with his own ideas he steals the ideas. He stole McCain’s idea on increasing the FDIC insurance. Obama stole McCain on offshore drilling. Now obama is for it? HE did say in debate we need offshore drilling. CHANGES his view on every position.

Palin’s a non-factor.
McCain choose Palin for the women vote. Obama leads by 14+ amongst women and 1 amongst white women.
Bush 2004 won white women by a 11 point margin.

Tom dont let the sun set on you in this country on that day…leave ASAP!!!! by the way
1 I want a president who i can relate to one who does not consider the fundamentals of the economy to be sound on one day and suspened his campaign a week later claming we are in a crisis
2 I want a president who remains clam and collected even when the situation call for panic and not one who runs about like a headless chicken
3I want a leader who does not use his service to the country to blackmail voters to vote for him
4 I want a leader who does not just say country first but actually puts country first by choosing someone who can actually take over as president if anything should happen to him
5 I want a leader who runs a campagin where homemade signs are actually homemade and not handed out by the campaign
6 I want a leader who is committed to his family through thick and thin because that gives an idea of the kind of leader he will be…not one who leaves his wife when the going gets though.
7 I want a leader who does not just respect himself but his opponent eg. Obama does not understand….Obama does not understand. Seriously speaking how placed 893 out of 899 students and who was president of the havard law review?
8 I want a leader who will restore the faith of not only Americans but the rest of the world in America and not a warmongering leader Sentor McCain: bomb, bomb.bomb iraq
9 I want a leader who rescue america from our may debts by not spending 10 billion dollers a month on a war in a country where we are hated and in a country with an 80billion budget surplus
10 I want a leader who understands that when one policy fails it is better to try a new one than stick to the same old failing policy. Trickle down economics where huge tax cuts are given to only the wealthly has done everything except held improve the lifes of Americans. Only the rich have benefited from it. The poor have just gotten poorer and yet McCain still wants to continue with this failed policy
AND ABOVE IT ALL I WANT A LEADER WHO DOES NOT REMAINED ME TOOO MUCH OF GEORGE W. BUSH!!!!!!!

And what isnt he doing that mccain is? Fine, he can stop blaming McCain but Mccain is also blaming Obama.
He can go to Washington and work with the Black Caucaus…but McCain went to DC and tried working with Repubs and still the bill failed.
and the ACORN thing, i dont know much about it but since it was numbr 3 behind these two i figured isnt that much of a concern.
So again i ask. What specifically can Obama and McCain do to help?? SPECIFICS.
And i do not mean to belabor the point.

So, you know, we’re getting stampeded here to vote for something that doesn’t help homeowners, that doesn’t do anything about foreclosures, that doesn’t help those people who have been in bankruptcy and are looking for a way out. As a matter of fact, it made sure they can’t get out. So, who’s this for? It’s for speculators. It’s to play a game that provides some temporary help in the market, and, you know, you might see an uptick today if this passes the House. On the other hand, if it doesn’t, we need to be ready to find a way for Wall Street to address its problems without having to tap the increasingly diminishing resources of the federal taxpayers.
Full Transcript
Though there is bi-partisan support for a bailout, who are we actually trying to help.
John McCain calls for more oversight and wishes for a plan to allow homeowners to stay in there homes, but it was Hillary Clinton that put forth proposals that may have actually had a chance at easing the financial crisis on Wall Street and Main Street.
In response, Senator Clinton outlined a series of proposals to address the crisis:
Create a new entity to buy up and quarantine toxic mortgage securities that are dragging down the markets which would allow the markets to stabilize. Last spring Senator Clinton was among the first to call for a new entity modeled after the successful Depression-era Home Owners’ Loan Corporation (HOLC) or the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) created after the Savings and Loan crisis.
Place a temporary moratorium on the most abusive stock transactions, many of which involve the “short-selling” of stocks. Yesterday, Senator Clinton wrote to the Securities and Exchange Commission urging such a moratorium, saying it would provide breathing room for the markets to recover, for investors to make accurate assessments of companies and for regulators to assess what trading practices should be permanently banned.
Convene an emergency economic summit to show the American people their government is working together. Bringing together leaders in the administration and Congress with lenders, consumer advocates, non profits, financial institutions, and all stakeholders will allow a coordinated response to the crisis.
Aggressively pursue and encourage mortgage modifications. Senator Clinton has introduced legislation to remove barriers to mortgage modification and to encourage lenders to voluntarily work with borrowers to keep them current on payments and in their homes.
Restore competent federal oversight of the increasingly complicated financial markets. The rapid evolution of the securities and banking industry overwhelmed the current regulatory framework, resulting in a “shadow banking system” that operates outside of oversight and without accountability.
Require transparency and accountability on executive pay. Senator Clinton has proposed the Corporate Executive Compensation Accountability and Transparency Act to impose new transparency rules on executive pay, end the accounting techniques that hide compensation, and provide shareholders a say in executive compensation packages.
Ensure the accountability of financial institutions borrowing money from the Federal Reserve’s new lending facilities. Taxpayers deserve to know that the companies they are bailing out are on the road to recovery and aren’t throwing more good money after bad.

I thought we had moved beyond blindly following our leaders to oblivion. Roger posted all those old cliches…America Love it or Leave It, etc.
Teddy Roosevelt (a Republican before the neocons took over) said “To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I want a leader that tells us the truth and works with people…a leader, not a boss. There are those on this site whose posting show that they would rather live in a country where everyone things and acts the same. There would be only one color, one religion, and one language. They ignore our Native brothers who walked this land before it was stolen from them. They want to slash any historical references that don’t promote Americans wearing white hats and saving the world. This is what Obama and the free world is fighting. The financial crisis will be solved, but we will still have the hate battles to contend with, until those who promote it are finally cast aside. This maybe the election that starts that process and that is why they promote their hate so violently. It’s the neocon’s last gasp and they will not go down quietly. They will try to take the country with them.
They don’t understand they’ve already lost.

Posted by: Kelly | September 30, 2008, 2:35 pm 2:35 pm

fact is over 60% of democrats voted for it, the less than30% ofrepublicans. Had McCain delivered the same percentage that democrats had it would have passed. Rpeublicans are not votingfor it so they can then throw back on that democrats are socialists. Republicans are playing politics while democrats are trying to help t he country. WE obviously STILL have too many republcians in office. Why do democrats have to deliver 99% percent ofthe votes and republicans deliver none? Republicans are like those slacker kids you had to do group projects in school who never did anything but say “that’s not a good idea’ yet they do nothing but put their name on the paper in the end and leach their grade off everyone else’s effort.

Sen. John McCain suspended his political campaign in order to work with fellow republicans on capital hill prior to the failed vote. He may not have succeeded but at least HE TRIED. On the other hand, Sen. Barack Obama choose to focus on his debate prep and political campaign, admitting today to calling NO ONE on capital hill. YET, the MSM & “political pundits” [whatever the heck that means] decided to MOCK John McCain’ s good faith effort to help solve this financial crisis. Gee, I wonder who to vote for come November? What did McCain’s effort deliver??? NOTHING. LESS than 30% of his own party! McCAIN WAS USELESS! COMPLETELLY USELESS! All that drama queen gradnstanding o f going to help negotiate a deal and his own party do not even listen to him. How MCCain loves to toot his own horn, but when a “leader” turns around to see who’s following him, usually there’s somebody there.

Posted by: Matt | September 30, 2008, 2:38 pm 2:38 pm

John McCain travels to Washington to help.
Dem: “We have an ageement” (announced just as McCain arrives, therefore McCain had nothing to do with it and cannot take credit for it)
Obama: “call me if you need me, I’m over here being cool.” “McCain is projecting presidential politics into the debate.” (I guess we’ll forget that they’re both senators.)
McCain & Obama meet with Congress and the president.( oh, so Obama did show up – they must have needed him) Obama is appointed the spokesman by the democrats. McCain listens and encourages the flow of ideas. Two minutes into Obama’s pompous diatribe the meeting collapses. Obama leaves town.
The first agreement falls through.
Dems: “It was all McCain’s fault.”
Another deal is struck the Democrats announce.
Obama: “John McCain cannot take credit for this deal. The ideas in this agreement were MINE, Me Me Me, Mine, mine mine.”
McCain: “It is my hope that though not ideal a bipartisan agreement of ideas can be struck.”
The deal is defeated in the House after 95 Democrats and 133 Republicans vote against it.
Dems/Obama: “It was McCains’s and the Republican’s fault”
Oh by the way – the media got their marching orders from the DNC>

To “Geevil” You took the words right out of my mouth. If “now if not the time to play politics” as Barack just stated, then why did he continue to prep for the 1st debate rather than focus on calling his fellow Democrats. Why? Simple; because throughout his entire life, Barack has been for Barack. McCain, since his 20s, has been for his country. Country First! McCain 2008/Hillary 2012!!!

If we really need to spend $700 billion to stabilize our economy, then consider this. Every citizen, over 17 that has a mortgage, can log on to the IRS site or submit a paper form, that provides the person’s social security number, the mortgage financial institution, and account number of their mortgage. The person can select whether you want the government to pay $5,000 towards the principal of the account or pay $200 per month of the mortgage payment for 18 months (total of $3,600). Those that don’t have a mortgage can do the same process, but the government will send them a check for $2,500 that they can use as they please. Result, anyone with a valid social security number benefits, the financial institutions holding the mortgages get the money infusion they need, people having trouble making their home payment can get some relief, no changes in law needed, and no big wigs or corporations can take advantage of law changes. The money provided by the government is report on the income tax form, but is not taxed. The difference in dollar amounts of these three options is to encourage additional moneys routed to the banks so they have money to loan for whatever reason. Total cost would be $700 billion or less.

He is very connected to this crisis and holds a lot of responsibility for it of course the Democrats want this resolved quickly that way it can be swept under the rug just like all the other negative stories you never hear about Obama. Obama is a Socialist it is that simple. His words do not match his record and he is being given a free pass by the Liberal media. Obama Supporters open your eyes and see the Real Obama and you will see he is not as perfect as you claim. For those of you who think a leader comes up with all the solutions and then does everything to put that solution into action, you have the wrong definition of a leader. A real leader knows how to get the people who have the right knowledge together to work on the problem. They then provide guidance for what should be accomplished. They also help remove obstacles that may prevent the group from obtaining their goal. Obama may have some ideas, but he knows that there are people more knowledgable that are working on the problem. As a leader, you sometimes have to let the people with the knowledge work through the problem and stay out of their way until you are needed and keep an open mind to the solutions that are presented.

Way to go, Sen. Barack Obama. This is brilliant!! Is America listening? Obama shows leadership and looks to the future. Contrast this with Sen. John McCain.
Just this morning, I heard Sen. McCain say what can be summarised in three sentences. In the first sentence, Sen. McCain said: “Barack Obama is to blame for the breakdown of the $700 billion bailout plan.” In the second sentence, Sen. McCain said: ” Let us not trade blame.” In the third sentence, Sen. McCain said: “Obama is to blame.” So what is Sen. McCain saying?

Now, my cousin, who got a D in economics while switching 7 colleges to squeezes out a college degree can dream of becoming a president from Republican party…thanks to Palin’s candidacy with similar resume, and that’s just the perfect grade in ECON one needs to fix the economy.
Now, America’s enemies can be ecstatic that there are enough idiot like us to possibly fool us again to elect another old fool as we did in 2000 & 2004.

As a small businees owner, we may earn 250K, but it doesn’t mean we bring it home. You have to have cash to run a business, and he wants to take it away via taxes.

I wanted to point out two AP stories that deal with a proposal to raise the FDIC limit. The first story says that Sen. Barack Obama supports such a proposal. That is, frankly, shocking, since the idea was actually proposed by House Republican negotiators on Saturday evening, but was strongly rejected by Senate Democrats. Rep. Chris Shays has introduced this proposal as legislation (H.R. 7235). The second AP story mentions the House GOP support for this proposal.
Why is Sen. Obama embracing a proposal his colleagues rejected? Why did Senate Democrats reject the proposal initially? Have they all changed their minds, or is Sen. Obama breaking with his colleagues? Interesting questions …

We need a leader who can lead. Obama was only handed this issue. He has not done one solid thing to correct the actual corruption that lead us to this point. He is part of the problem by his ideas of giving people money as wealth distribution hidden within his heavy taxing. His party was warned by Bush/ McCain and others that we were heading for this crisis. Barney Franks is on record as saying there was no crisis at Fannie/ Freddie when he was ask by Bush in 2001, 2004 and 2006 to set in safeguards. If you are setting blame, be sure you don’t forget these facts. Bush has his flaws but he cannot control what goes on in the legislative branch. The Congress dropped the ball. Obama’s party leaders are mostly responsible. Those same leaders and Obama should not be rewarded to be trusted in the nation’s treasury AGAIN. The days that pass, I feel like we are heading towards socialism. I praise all those who stopped this bill because the bill would had been an example of government socialism of the U.S. banking system. Vote no to Obama nation and socialism. God Bless John McCain.

The conservative AM radio crowd is definitely in an echo chamber in regard to ACORN. Trying to paint ACORN as the cause of the housing mess is beyond ridiculous. The central plank of ACORN is fighting predatory lending practices and guiding lower income, first-time home buyers through the process. They actively work AGAINST the predatory lending that led to the crisis, which was almost exclusively done by the lending industry itself. The industry aggressively pursued short-term profits to the long-term detriment of the entire economy. ACORN doesn’t make a lender lend anything it doesn’t want to. This is a transparent conservative attempt to try and blame poor people for a problem caused by unregulated bankers. But hey nice try. Maybe no one is covering this story, because it doesn’t remotely hold any water.

GK, the stock market has nothing to do with the problem with the banks. That only shows the investor confidence that things will work out ok. The banks still can’t lend money and the bad debts they hold keep growing. Basically, it would be like you loaning out money to family and friends. Them not paying you back, and suddenly another person asks for a loan, but you have no money to loan them.
Banks make money on the interest on loans. Some of that is paid to people with money in the bank, but because of debt problems most people do not have a lot of money sitting in accounts in the banks. So, there is no money to use for loans, and money is not coming in as it should from loans already made.
The stock market is a reaction to what is happening with the mortgage and bank bail out, not a sign there is not still a problem. However, a crash on the market would amplify the banking problem because people would lose their long-term stability.

To all those who keep saying Hilary 2012
First and foremost it only under these conditions that this is possible:
1 That McCain screws up this country soo bad that after four years everyone has had enough. I f this is what you are hoping for then it goes to show how much you care about this country, seeing as you would rather have it totally destroyed just so Hilary has shot in 2012
Because if the country should improve she would not even stand half a chance, given that after 8 years of such a failed government people would still vote republican they will defiantly not vote a democrat in if the economy is doing well.
Also it is under the assumption that Obama supporters will be able to forgive what they see us a defeat caused by Hilary supporters and just like you will be too bitter to vote for her in the primaries or even the general election.
Now given all these conditions if you still think that there will be a Hilary 2012(meaning you are hoping for the country’s situation to worsen), the chances of that happening is very, very slim
So instead of using your bitterness to destroy this country, take sometime out to put your country first and not yourself.
If you are however supporting McCain because you feel that your views and hopes for this country is closer to his then go ahead.
I f you are doing this only out of spite, then remember that just like Obama needs all democrats to succeed, so will Hilary. What goes around comes around!!!!!!

Fannie Mae Eases Credit To Aid Mortgage Lending
By STEVEN A. HOLMES
In a move that could help increase home ownership rates among minorities and low-income consumers, the Fannie Mae Corporation is easing the credit requirements on loans that it will purchase from banks and other lenders.
The action, which will begin as a pilot program involving 24 banks in 15 markets — including the New York metropolitan region — will encourage those banks to extend home mortgages to individuals whose credit is generally not good enough to qualify for conventional loans.. Fannie Mae officials say they hope to make it a nationwide program by next spring.
Fannie Mae, the nation’s biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits.
In addition, banks, thrift institutions and mortgage companies have been pressing Fannie Mae to help them make more loans to so-called sub prime borrowers. These borrowers whose incomes, credit ratings and savings are not good enough to qualify for conventional loans, can only get loans from finance companies that charge much higher interest rates — anywhere from three to four percentage points higher than conventional loans.
”Fannie Mae has expanded home ownership for millions of families in the 1990′s by reducing down payment requirements,” said Franklin D. Raines, Fannie Mae’s chairman and chief executive officer. ”Yet there remain too many borrowers whose credit is just a notch below what our underwriting has required who have been relegated to paying significantly higher mortgage rates in the so-called subprime market.”
Demographic information on these borrowers is sketchy. But at least one study indicates that 18 percent of the loans in the subprime market went to black borrowers, compared to 5 per cent of loans in the conventional loan market.
In moving, even tentatively, into this new area of lending, Fannie Mae is taking on significantly more risk, which may not pose any difficulties during flush economic times. But the government-subsidized corporation may run into trouble in an economic downturn, prompting a government rescue similar to that of the savings and loan industry in the 1980′s.
”From the perspective of many people, including me, this is another thrift industry growing up around us,” said Peter Wallison a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. ”If they fail, the government will have to step up and bail them out the way it stepped up and bailed out the thrift industry.”
Under Fannie Mae’s pilot program, consumers who qualify can secure a mortgage with an interest rate one percentage point above that of a conventional, 30-year fixed rate mortgage of less than $240,000 — a rate that currently averages about 7.76 per cent. If the borrower makes his or her monthly payments on time for two years, the one percentage point premium is dropped.
Fannie Mae, the nation’s biggest underwriter of home mortgages, does not lend money directly to consumers. Instead, it purchases loans that banks make on what is called the secondary market. By expanding the type of loans that it will buy, Fannie Mae is hoping to spur banks to make more loans to people with less-than-stellar credit ratings.

“An ACORN Falls from the Tree”
Ken Blackwell
Tuesday, September 30, 2008
This write-up is full of mis-characterizations by Mr. Blackwell. Blackwell was named in a 2006 lawsuit related to his office’s public disclosure of the Social Security numbers of Ohio residents. Allegations of conflict of interest and voter disenfranchisement led to the filing of at least sixteen related lawsuits naming Blackwell though he was not convicted.
This questionable fellow is impugning ACORN, a 400,000 member-activitst organzation that has won thousands of lawsuits on behalf of social and economic justice. Ofcourse, such a large organization will have a few bad apples. But to be accurate, it was never named in any version of the Bail-out legislation. It applies for funding like many organizations to the Housing Trust Fund. Another rumor-monger, Senator Lindsey Graham, spread this falsehood about ACORN a few days ago and ofcourse FAUX news picked it up.
Voters need to at least make an attempt to get different sides. Its all on Google.

FOLLOW THE MONEY AND CORRUPTION! A Lending Policy created by democrats for democrats run by democrats monitored by democrats enforced by community organizer democrats and profited from by democrats. Fannie and Freddie acted in response to Clinton administration pressure to boost homeownership rates among minorities and the poor. However compassionate the motive, the result of this systematic disregard for normal credit standards has been financial disaster. ONE key pioneer of ACORN’s subprime-loan shakedown racket was Madeline Talbott – an activist with extensive ties to Barack Obama. She was also in on the ground floor of the disastrous turn in Fannie Mae’s mortgage policies. – It would be tough to find an “on the ground” community organizer more closely tied to the subprime-mortgage fiasco than Madeline Talbott. And no one has been more supportive of Madeline Talbott than Barack Obama. When Obama was just a budding community organizer in Chicago, Talbott was so impressed that she asked him to train her personal staff. He returned to Chicago in the early ’90s, just as Talbott was starting her pressure campaign on local banks. In those years, he also conducted leadership-training seminars for ACORN’s up-and-coming organizers. That is, Obama was training the army of ACORN organizers who participated in Madeline Talbott’s drive against Chicago’s banks.

Based on some of the grammer and spelling, I can tell why some of you Obama supporters cannot understand what is going on around you. The reality is that Obama has no experience, no leadership skills, no clue on forign issues and is running with promises of entitlements and spending programs that he will not ever be able to deliver with the current state of the economy. He has no ideas on how to fix the economy and sits back and “waits to hear” about what the government is going to do or how the polls look. Frankly, if the phone rings at 3am I want a president who will answer it and make a decision not one who tells his secretary to take a message while he waits to see “how it all works out”

Posted by: Sportsmom | September 30, 2008, 3:12 pm 3:12 pm

During Obama’s time on the Woods Funds ACORN received grants of $45,000 (2000), $30,000 (2001), $45,000 (2001), $30,000 (2002), and $40,000 (2002) from the Woods Fund. (Obama in the early 1990’s helped train ACORN organizers and later served as counsel in 1995 for ACORN in a “motor voter” registration lawsuit.) And ACORN certainly appreciated whatever assistance Obama afforded the radical organization over the years. No doubt Obama is very proud of his role as a “community activist” for ACORN.
If ACORN were merely another whiny left-wing group that never did anything, it might be something we could all laugh off as cute. But alas, ACORN is neither cute nor laughable; it is a very determined, very powerful outfit which believes in implementing socialism, and works hard to create the right conditions to make socialism inevitable, and ineradicable.

The pattern of funneling money to political allies and their allies is evident throughout Obama’s tenure at the Woods Fund. Tens and tens of thousands of dollars were granted to organizations including the Brighton Park Neighborhood Council, Business and Professional People for the Public Interest (BPPPI), the Center for Neighborhood Technology, Centers for New Horizons, the Chicago Jobs Council, the Chicago Education Fund, the Chicago Institute on Urban Poverty, the Chicago Urban League, The Gamaliel Foundation. Dozens of the board members and officials from these organizations in turn would donate money, in many instances up to the legal limit, for Obama’s Senate and Presidential races between 2004 and 2008.
For example the Woods Fund between 1999 and 2002 granted $60,000 to BPPPI. Board member and executives donated at least $16,950 to Obama’s political campaigns. The Woods Fund granted the Center of Neighborhood Technology $150,000 between 1999 and 2002. Obama received over $24,000 in campaign donations from its officials. And in turn Obama made sure to seek earmarks on their behalf once he reached the U.S. Senate.

From the current hand-wringing, you’d think that the banks came up with the idea of looser underwriting standards on their own, with regulators just asleep on the job. In fact, it was the regulators who relaxed these standards – at the behest of community groups and “progressive” political forces.
In the 1980s, groups such as the activists at ACORN began pushing charges of “redlining” – claims that banks discriminated against minorities in mortgage lending. In 1989, sympathetic members of Congress got the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act amended to force banks to collect racial data on mortgage applicants; this allowed various studies to be ginned up that seemed to validate the original accusation. For years, rising house prices hid the default problems since quick refinances were possible. But now that house prices have stopped rising, we can clearly see the damage caused by relaxed lending standards.Stan Liebowitz is the Ashbel Smith professor of Economics in the Business School at the University of Texas at Dallas.
This needs to be shouted from the (foreclosed) rooftops.
But of course it will not be.
(And of course not only is Mrs. Clinton a big ACORN supporter, but Mr. Obama worked for them both before and after attending law school

For those who are lost – which is most of ABC’s bloggers; OBAMA AND MCCAIN must address this issue; in the debates and street. I understand Obama’s concern about last Friday’s debate, but he has to grow up. The economy is the most important issue TODAY; and this is not a pass at John McCain, but I will give him some points for at least “making it appear” that the economy is first. Most people are just ignorant when it comes to the economy and these men are leading the nation – the people. They need to put this into perspective for the population. Let us hope they remain focused on the issue and TELL THE TRUTH. By the way, this problem was caused by both lack of oversight on the parts of Republicans AND Democrats. No one is guiltless. From what I’ve read, you probably would, and that is what is wrong with America. I could care less what a candidates name is, or the color of his/her skin, or their religion. I want someone who believes in America and Americans…something we haven’t had for the last seven years.

TC, it was deregulation (less government) that caused the current banking problem, not regulation (more government). Deregulation is the republican way to free market that helps big business make money and have less government oversight on business, regulation is the way to democrats protecting the consumer and having more government oversight on business.

Obama has done plenty. When he first started organizing in South Chicago the place was a slum with a high crime rate, high welfare rate, high unemployment rate and high murder rate. Now days South Chicago is still a slum with a high crime rate and high welfare rate but the unemployment rate decreased because the murder rate is hitting a record high. NObama. No bailout.

This is hilarious watching McCain supporters pan Obama’s speech here. It’s as if your guy has done anything other than goofball his way around this crisis for his own political gain only to have it boomerang back in his face. What a joke.

Example directly from John McCain’s web site –
“John McCain co-sponsored the Family Friendly Workplace Act, which sought to allow employers to provide flexible work schedules to help employees balance the demands and needs of work and family, such as allowing employees to take compensatory time-off rather than be paid overtime and to work more than 40 hours in one week and correspondingly less in another week.” —— At first glance it looks fine and dandy however the devil is always in the details. I worked for a company like this once and they didn’t give the employee the choice. If you worked two hours overtime you got two hours off however the law requires overtime after 40 hours to be paid at time and a half. The company was essentially screwing the employees out of an hour’s wages for every two hours of overtime. The company would force people to work 60 hours in a week because they had a lot of work but to balance the budget they would just tell you to stay home the next week and give you 20 hours straight pay. Take your hourly wage and run the numbers, you’re getting screwed. A complaint was made to Labor and Industries and the company was forced to pay employees the overtime wage. What John McCain is proposing is to make the practice of cheating employees legal. Great for employers but bad for you and me. Just another example of Republicans putting corporate America over American workers.

Beck, your math is wrong.
It is $425 per person, not $425,000.
Makes a difference.
Also, when they throw out these numbers, they aren’t necessarily the cost.
So they talk about $700 billion to buy up mortgages.
Well they hope to buy mortgages that will be worth at least $700 billion and it won’t cost anything.
If they are wrong and the mortgages end up only being worth $600 billion, then the cost is still $100 billion, not $700 billion.

Yes, in order to win, Obama must pick up busloads of people in Ohio to register and receive absentee ballots the same day; he must have his former colleagues at ACORN registering every dead body, convicted felon, and names pulled out of phone books to vote; and must use law enforcement and prosecutors in Missouri to intimidate anyone who calls him a bad name…..

Democrats tout Barack Obama’s experience as a community organizer at the same time they’re complaining about the state of the economy. Well it’s important to connect the dots between these two topics.
As a community organizer, Obama worked directly for and with ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now). In 1992, he was hired to run a voter registration effort. He later became a trainer for the group, as well as its lawyer in election law cases.
ACORN has not only been involved in numerous instances of fraudulent voter registration, vote-rigging, voter intimidation and vote-for-pay scams, the organization also took a lead role in pushing for and getting the underwriting standards for mortgages loosened with the support of liberal politicians in Congress. This was in spite of warnings that looser standards could lead to wide-scale defaults.
Once the standards were loosened, liberal politicians like Barney Frank and Chris Dodd pushed financial institutions to make more and more loans to homeowners who had little ability to repay them.
The result: the current economic crises.
So this raises a couple of important questions.
• What has Obama done to clean up the corruption in ACORN or has he just been complicit?
• Why is he so vocal about the weakness in our economy when the organization he worked for and his colleagues have been primary contributors to the current downturn that coincided with the Democrats gaining control of Congress?

– If the $700 billion price tag attached to the bailout plan that failed sounds like a lot, well, it is.
You can spend $700 billion in a lot of different ways. For instance, you could buy a war — the U.S. has spent $648 billion on the war in Iraq so far.
That much money could ensure universal health care coverage for six years or upgrade the country’s most deficient bridges four times over. Or you could build 1,750 bridges to nowhere. Surely all of those would eventually take you somewhere.
With $700 billion you could easily run Denmark, which had a paltry gross domestic product of $312 billion last year.
That much money could also pay back every single outstanding student loan, fund the national intelligence budget beyond 2020, or help the Gulf Coast recover from five Hurricane Katrinas.

“In the four years since he stepped down as Fannie Mae’s chief executive under the shadow of a $6.3 billion accounting scandal, Franklin D. Raines has been quietly constructing a new life for himself. He has shaved eight points off his golf handicap, taken a corner office in Steve Case’s D.C. conglomeration of finance, entertainment and health-care companies and more recently, taken calls from Barack Obama’s presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters.”
“In the current crisis, their biggest backers have been Democrats such as Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher J. Raines, are former chief executives of Fannie Mae.“

May 2006: Extensive fraud at Fannie Mae under Raines’ direction, generating over $50 million in bonuses for nonexistent growth.
April 2008: Raines gives up $24 million in future payouts to avoid criminal charges in Fannie Mae fraud, although most of that was in worthless options; he pays $2 million in cash.
Note that Raines continued to advise Obama even after that settlement. It’s not as though Obama didn’t know Raines’ past. Apparently, he just didn’t care.

As for those who blame the “Bush administration” what they forget is they are ALL part of the Bush admiration ….they are just as much to blame for whats going on….they have fought Bush from the beginning and the lady that is speaker of the house from the beginning has been again Bush. They were elected to do a job for the people but instead they are for themselves.(..there are a small few that does work for the people and do their job.) Some have been in congress so along they don;t remember what its like to live from paycheck to paycheck and some that has no idea about the people they work for. We pay their bills, give them vacations wherever, whenever and spending money to boot. So, Obama stop blaming the Bush administration when YOU are part of it….its like telling your hand you are mad at it and no longer consider it part of you. Get real!!

Angie: Wake up call the Keating 5 was 20 years ago. After a lengthy investigation, the Senate Ethics Committee determined in 1991 that Alan Cranston, Dennis DeConcini, and Donald Riegle had substantially and improperly interfered with the FHLBB in its investigation of Lincoln Savings. Senators John Glenn and John McCain were cleared of having acted improperly but were criticized for having exercised “poor judgment”. The banking crisis in now!

The two institutions have long been run not by bankers but by retired political figures, predominantly Democrats. From 1991 to 1998, Fannie Mae was headed by James Johnson, a longtime aide to former Democratic vice president Walter Mondale. Johnson’s successor, Franklin Raines, had served as budget director to Bill Clinton. Jamie Gorelick, vice chair of Fannie Mae from 1998 to 2003, served as deputy attorney general in the Clinton administration. These figures have paid themselves impressive private-sector salaries. Johnson earned US$21-million in just his last year at Fannie Mae. Raines earned US$90-million for five years’ work at Fannie Mae. Gorelick got US$26-million. Franklin Raines was Clinton’s former UMB Director, is a former CEO of Fannie May, was paid a total of $90 MILLION for his tenure at Fannie May, who was forced to resign due to a $6.3 billion accounting debacle he oversaw in 2004, and James Johnson former Vice-Chair of Fannie Mae and Managing Director of Lehman Brothers….. Raines and Johnson are the current economic advisors for Barack Obama. Raines was in charge when most of these high risk, sub prime rate loans were being given away; the primary catalyst to Fannie Mae’s collapse. The people who oversaw the Country-Wide scandal were working for Obama as well. Here is a New York Times article with some good info on Raines.
In the mean Time Democrat Speaker Nancy Pelosi says that “the Democrats bear no responsibility for the current crisis”. Real nice nancy – too bad the public record overwhelmingly proves otherwise.

To all republicans (especially the “Gee Evil” type), I think I speak for all logical and rational “thinking” people in this country and abroad. It pains me to listen to anything you have to say. Your type would vote for SATAN himself if he had an “R” or a “GOP” on his/her chest. Let me ask you a simple question b/c you’re all obviously too close-minded and stupid to understand something too complex. This is intended for those which make less than $250K/year, otherwise I understand why you embrace the republican ideology. Why do you vote republican? What does the Republican Party offer you? Seriously, take a few minutes to think about this question before you go bananas on me.
Although, I doubt the answers will make much sense, it should be entertaining to hear your responses. I occasionally tune to FoxNews and AM talk radio, so I can almost predict each of your answers. You’re all so predictable. Rush and Hannity and the rest of the posse have been lecturing everyone for eight years. More deregulations, less government programs, less spending (except for the treasonous 2 trillion dollar war), more morals and ethical principles instilled in our government (Ha! What a joke), cutting taxes for the middle class (and a lot more for Mr. Corporate and wide open tax write-offs/corporate loop holes – wink, wink), our right to bear semi-automatic weapons to hunt deer, pheasant, etc., and also for our personal protection (a simple handgun won’t do the trick?), teaching abstinence, no-child left behind, how global warming isn’t human induced and is just a left wing conspiracy, etc, etc, etc, bla, bla, bla.
Who are the nuts, again, Gee Evil? You’ve now had eight years for republican politicians to prove that your ideology is wrong, wrong, and wrong on all these issues. So Clinton got a BJ… big deal. God, I only wish that was our country’s major problem today. What a bunch of morons… and the sad thing is at least half of our country (give or take a few %) are exactly this. Morons. It’s pretty depressing when I let myself go here.
Let me give you an analogy as to why I sway more on the democratic side. Imagine Wall Street is a class of about 60- 5th graders and the rest of the school is the bulk of the middle class. The teacher (i.e. “President”) and school board (“i.e. congress) decide this class is so smart and exceptional that they are going to “create” new, “exceptional“conditions for this class. The school board decides that there needs to be NO after school or special programs to help kids learn the material that is taught in class. The teacher even decides to allow the 5th graders take their tests with the answers on the back. She says there is no need to worry about cheating because they’re an exceptionally honest group of kids. She also decides to leave the room while the kids take the test. Her rational: It’s just too stressful for these kids if she’s in the room while they take their test. To no one’s surprise, the 5th graders of this school are at the top. They win awards and are praised by the school board. Obviously, this system works, so they continue to allow these kids the same set of conditions all the way through high school. Incredibly, these kids never make any B’s. They’re all A students. THEN THEY ALL GO TO COLLEGE AND FLUNK OUT THEIR FIRST SEMESTER.
I ask you republicans, are you surprised that this group of kids flunked out of college? Although this scenario was applied to the current financial crisis, it can be applied to everything. Energy, education, environmental, defense, healthcare, etc, etc, etc.
To my fellow “rational and logical thinkers”, how do we help such ignorance? Please, don’t tell me to be more respectful than what I am being right now. This is a real epidemic. I think stupidity might have the edge over obesity in this country.

At last count, Obamaclaus has promised to share
the wealth of every industrialized nation with
the people of all the poor countries in the world.
He didn’t say how he was going to get the money
past the tin horn generals and dictators who run
and rob those countries; presumably he still has
some magic dust from his college days. Then
Obamaclaus is going to stop global warming, and end
our dependence on oil. Well, he said foreign oil, but
seeing as the North Slope is drying up, and he ain’t
going to allow no new drilling, that pretty much
leaves out All oil. And, He ain’t going to build no
new nuke plants, either. That pretty much leaves us
with biodeisel, beanie powered noggin top generators,
and his magic dust, this I gotta see. Then,
he’s going to balance the budget, give us all a
three thousand dollar tax cut, give everybody
universal health care, increase troops and spending
in Afghanistan, stop the Russians from overrunning
Europe and stop the Iranians from building nukes,
while solving the world wide financial crisis
and balancing a running chain saw on his nose. If
Obamaclaus can do all that, we ought to forget
electing him president and make the SOB Pope. Lay
his hands on the Whole World and solve All our
problems.
Setting aside the daily playbook of Obama’s Presidential
Fantasy League; nearly every notable Democrat from Nancy
Pelosi to Hillary Clinton; from his running mate Joe
Biden to Jesse Jackson; from Bill Clinton to Chuck Schumer,
has said that Barack Obama ain’t qualified to be president.
Well, every notable Democrat except the Kennedys, and Teddy
has to be forgiven, seeing as he was under the influence of
an inoperable brain tumor when he endorsed Obama, and
all them other Kennedy endorsements don’t count, ’cause Teddy
still has the keys to the vault, and, you do what you’re told.
How Obama went from the least able candidate for president in
July to the most able candidate in September truly is a wonder.
Maybe it was Obama’s (a) kissing tour of Europe.
Or his (b) slapping of every registered Democrat in Michigan
and Florida.
Or his (c) two hundred million dollars in campaign contributions
from the drug addled Hollywood and music industry.
Or the (d) wild enthusiasm of the teenagers in the crowds at the
colleges Obama likes to haunt. Of course, you can get the same
reaction from a college crowd with a wet T shirt and a keg of beer,
and those ain’t qualified to be president, neither. Although
I Have seen some wet T shirts that come pretty close.

The action, which will begin as a pilot program involving 24 banks in 15 markets — including the New York metropolitan region — will encourage those banks to extend home mortgages to individuals whose credit is generally not good enough to qualify for conventional loans. Fannie Mae officials say they hope to make it a nationwide program by next spring.
Fannie Mae, the nation’s biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profi ts.
In addit ion, banks, thrift institutions and mortgage companies have been pressing Fannie Mae to help them make more loans to so-called subprime borrowers.
But at least one study indicates that 18 percent of the loans in the subprime marke t went to black b orrowers, compared to 5 per cent of loans in the conventional loan market.
”If they fail, the government will have to step up and bail them out the way it stepped up a nd bailed out the thrift industry.”
By expanding the type of loans that it will buy, Fannie Mae is hoping to spur banks to make more loans to people with less-than-stellar credit ratings

Now something will get done. The republicans have zero creditability on the matter and rightly so. Obama has been setting the tone for quite sometime on the economy. He along with Senator Clinton has been asking for a moratorium on mortgage foreclosures, which McCain rejected as helping the speculator. Now many Noble Prize economists and prominent politicians are saying the same thing as Obama, including McCain. McCain’s grandstanding backfired and failed to deliver any republicans on the bailout. New York Times has McCain gambling at Indian Casino’s all night paid for by lobbyists while he sits on the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. The conservative commentators are calling Palin “embarrassing”. Palin made the cover of National Enquire twice. If we do not get this election right, than there is something deeply wrong with our democracy.

The top three campaign donation recipients were Democrats, number two of which was Barack Obama, yet the media is laying mum on these facts. The three top campaign donation recipients from Fannie Mae were all Democrats. Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) got $165,000, Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) was given $126,349, and failed presidential candidate Senator John Kerry (D-MA) took $111,000 from the folks at Fannie Mae The three top campaign donation recipients from Fannie Mae were all Democrats. Since the banks have so many houses and there are so many people who need houses to live in, why don’t each bank have a house lottery on their web site. The banks could show the house on their website with an accepted target price. People could register and pay the banks maybe $2.00 to $5.00 a chance, either over the computer or by mail. With some kind of official oversight, their names would enter a computer pool and once the target price was met, the computer would choose a name and notify the winner. The banks would have the money for the house and one by one, the empty houses would become occupied. If the winner didn’t want to live there, they could rent it out or sell it at the current market price.

Obama was prudent NOT to inject presidentail politics into the discussion of bailout plans, while hot-tempered McCain rushed to meddle the pot without thinking. Now the situation is severe, Obama steps up to the voters to explain how the bailout works. It’s a prudent and insightful move — understanding the issues and the failed communication/trust between the administration and the people.
One can imagine that we divide up the $700B among all Americans and give us an instantaneous boost to our wallet.
Is that really a good move? There is a lot more to our wallet. No man is an island. We need a functional economy and society to maintain our living standard. By pure financial analysis, the loss in your retirement and social security can potentially off-set any gain in your wallet, if the government gives this money to you now.
If our economy goes down the drain and you lose the job and house for MANY YEARS to come, how long do you think that 1/2 million dollars is going to sustain you and your family? This is a short-sighted view without fundamental understanding of how the economy of the whole entire system works. The impact goes far beyond the U.S., but globally!
That’s why WE, the people, need to support this bailout plan for all of us, our children, and the future of U.S., when it’s not too late.

It is awesome to watch all the consevatives starting to flip out. Obama had opened up an 8% lead nationally and McCain is in a free fall. Palin only stands a chance to make it worse on Thursday. All the conservative morons on this post are clamoring to tie Obama to Frannie and Freddie by citing 9 year old articles. Throwing blame out instead of offering solutions sounds about par for the course as far as Republicans are concerned during this campaign. I don’t mind and I respect Conservative republicans even though I am not one. The ones I attempt to rip on are the ones who are stupid enough to throw their brain excrement on this particular post as if they actually know what they are talking about. You, like your leadership, are only concerned about two things 1)making people afraid of what is going on and 2)trying to tell you who to blame for it. I say NO MORE! It’s is time for solutions and, George Bush, your 8 years are up.

To: Reality
What has McCain done for action? take a day off and try to postpone the debate. hmmm doesn’t sound like action. All Obama is doing is re investing the fact that something needs to happen and the fire will not go out with out something. obviously the answer is not as clear as it should be otherwise they would have decided on it or we would not be in such a situation as we are now.

Actually, over the last weekend, Obama was running around talking about how he should get so much credit for the bailout bill (the one that FAILED; the one that so many of us opposed) because it included several of his ideas (ideas that others had long before he did).
Both these candidates are jokes.

NICE ARTICLE RCP.. ABC, WHY NOT REPORT ON THIS ONE? – Obama is not Presidental material and no one will tell me otherwise. He is a snake.
Read on:
ACORN attracted Barack Obama in his youthful community organizing days. Madeline Talbott hired him to train her staff — the very people who would later descend on Chicago’s banks as CRA shakedown artists. The Democratic nominee later funneled money to the group through the Woods Fund, on whose board he sat, and through the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, ditto. Obama was not just sympathetic — he was an ACORN fellow traveler.
Now you could make the case that before 2008, well-intentioned people were simply unaware of what their agitation on behalf of non-credit-worthy borrowers could lead to. But now? With the whole financial world and possibly the world economy trembling and cracking like a cement building in an earthquake, Democrats continue to try to fund their friends at ACORN? And, unashamed, they then trot out to the TV cameras to declare “the party is over” for Wall Street (Nancy Pelosi)? The party should be over for the Democrats who brought us to this pass. If Obama wins, it means hiring an arsonist to fight a fire.

To all Democrats in response to “Rational thought for GOP. “ You are voting for Satan himself well at least Karl Marx. And for every Rush and Hannity there is a Ed Schultz and Keith Olberman. Democrats want a Socialist form of Government where they can control all basic decisions. Is it our fault some Americans cannot make decisions for themselves? They want to spend and tax. You are naïve enough to believe putting a ban on weapons will keep these more powerful weapons out of the hands of Criminal? Wake up they are criminals and will get them legal or not last I checked drugs were Illegal and there are a lot of drug addicts in America. You car more about the rights of criminals than you do about the protection of the innocent. You are anti-death penalty and Pro-Abortion if this is not a huge contradiction. A criminal does not deserve death for a crime they commit but an unborn child does not deserve the right to live? You want to put health care in the control of the government after they earned your trust with the latest banking crisis. Good Idea tell me how that turns out. And in the spirit of the 5th grader analogy you used let me use the following analogy on taxes and the way it really works in the real world. Tax reduction talk in Washington has produced the usual outcry of how the rich will be favored. What follows here is a synopsis of a hypothetical situation that puts tax cuts into simple terms. Its author is unknown, but it has been used in at least one university’s accounting classes.
Every evening, the same 10 friends eat dinner together, family style, at the same restaurant. The bill for all 10 comes to $100. They always pay it the way we pay taxes:
• the first four are poor and pay nothing. • The fifth pays $1. • The sixth pays $3. • The seventh, $7 • The eighth, $12. • The ninth, $18. • The 10th, (the most well-to-do) pays $59. One night the restaurant owner announces that because they’re such good customers, he’s dropping their group dinner bill to $80. Let’s call that a tax cut. They want to continue paying their bill as we pay taxes. So the four poorest men still eat free. But if the other six split the $20 tax cut evenly, each would save $3.33. That means the fifth and sixth men would end up being paid to eat. The restaurant owner works out a plan: The fifth man eats free; the sixth pays $2; the seventh, $5; the eighth, $9; the ninth, $12; and the 10th guy pays $52. All six are better off than before, and the four poor guys still eat for nothing. The trouble starts when they leave the restaurant and begin to compare what they reaped from the $20 cut. “I only got a dollar of it,” says the sixth man, “but he (pointing at No. 10) got $7.” The fifth guy, who also saved a dollar by getting his meal free, agrees that it’s not fair for the richest to get seven times the savings as he. No. 7, grousing that the wealthy get all the breaks, points out that he only got two bucks. “Wait a minute,” the first four poor guys yell in unison. “We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!” The nine men jump the 10th and administer a severe beating. The next night he doesn’t come for dinner. They shrug it off and eat without him. The customary $80 bill comes. Surprise! They’re $52 short.
All this is perhaps an oversimplification of how the tax system works, but the lesson is there, in the taxing of corporate operations as well as people. Yes, those who pay the most taxes get the most back from tax reductions. But tax them too much — punish them for the wealth they may have — and they just might stop bringing their money to the table.

ABC’s reminder of the 1999 entry of Fannie and Freddie into “affirmative action” insuring of mortgage loans was enlightening. I hadn’t realized that blacks were responsible for this devastating blow to the world’s economy until now.
“Demographic information on these borrowers is sketchy. But at least one study indicates that 18 percent of the loans in the subprime marke t went to black b orrowers, compared to 5 per cent of loans in the conventional loan market.
In moving, even tentatively, into this new area of lending, Fannie Mae is taking on significantly more risk.”
It would appear that the authors, and consequently those who use the material to prove their point of blaming “affirmative action” for Wall Street’s rape of Backyard America, seriously consider the black population to be at fault for wanting to own their own homes without having to secure “pay day loans” at exorbitant interest to do so. Code words and phrases are being used to substitute for “affirmative action,” of course. Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, “pushing banks,” etc., are simply euphemisms for “it’s the fault of blacks.” This is clearly a racist argument that deserves to be ignored… no, not ignored… condemned. There is NO evidence that these people are the ones in default! There is evidence that 90% of the foreclosures are in four states: the lalaland of California, Harry Reid’s Nevada, John McCain’s Arizona and Disney’s Florida. Last time I checked neither Arizona or Nevada erupted with black home owners. With 1/3 of all foreclosures taking place in California, there is greater emphasis upon the Hispanic influences on the market than the black. But, of course, you can quickly enshroud the chameleon’s curtain to encompass that small discrepancy. It’s just a different shade, right? There is NO evidence that receiving an interest rate 1% above the conventional 30 year fixed mortgage rate is even germane to the current crisis. More to the point would be ARMS, balloon payments, automatic interest adjustments and no principal reductions, while employment declines, health insurance premiums skyrocket, taxes and utilities and energy and transportation costs break new records daily. Blaming blacks for these conditions is infantile. I would challenge any reputable firm to produce statistics demonstrating that the 25% of subprime mortgage loans that are at risk have a greater percentage of blacks than the general population. In the meantime, put the blame where it belongs: Wall Street manipulators, Bankers without conscience, Politicians who don’t know economics and are proud of it, and greedy citizens looking for the easy buck, the “something for nothing,” the use of other people’s money without paying “the grease.” But you go right ahead and hate whomever you wish; it’s a free country. It was made that way by thousands of young men and women (all better people than the rest of us) whose sacrifices protected your right to spew your venom across cyberspace. They did not shame the day; you have.

Tim, true regulation and reform that would have not caused certain problems within the past year’s such as Oil exploration, gas and fuel prices, and this financial crisis. This is hurting all classes of people who pay or don’t pay taxes, Obama has unrealistic ideas that is nothing but promises for votes. Obama said, if I can be helpful, call me and I’ll be there. McCain got on his plane and went to do his job! Now that’s a leader whether you like him or not, Obama was just preparing for the debate with his advisers and did not want to be distracted. Now, with this crisis, high taxes on anybody is not good, because the rich run businesses and would lay off, on Obama’s plan’s, it’s just so he can pay for his new programs which will cost more taxpayer money, which down the road more taxes would come to everybody, and run more jobs out of our country. Taxing business that creates and keeps jobs is not good, you give tax breaks to business to create more jobs which brings in more revenue than just taxing the rich. Capitol gains Tax will hurt the middle class, because that is where they invest most of the money they work hard for. McCain will give tax breaks to corporations that would create more jobs and bring in more revenue through real taxation, which means everybody is taxed properly according to their tax bracket, not your rich so you must pay more and your poor so you don’t pay but get handouts.

Anyone remember the prosperous 90′s? The only reason a boom in jobs happened was because of the computer/Internet boom that was not at it’s time regulated. Then the big bang happened during the Bush/Gore elections with the collapse of Internet businesses, anyone remember! While all of that was going on, Clinton was shipping jobs to China and other companies followed suit due to high taxes. It’s funny how liberals forget about the last to years of Clinton, which were not prosperous. Then 9/11 happened which made everything from creation of jobs to another financial crisis worse, and yes a lot of money(revenue)was lost due to jobs lost. Wake up you liberal nuts, this is reality, not a fantasy dream of change from Obama. What is his change? Just taxation, handouts to the

In a few weeks we will make a choice that will decide our future. I follow a economist named bob proctor who has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly. He perfectly predicted the current real estate market meltdown ,and the picture he paints about what will happen in the next couple years Is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression. Banks in the US are going under one after the other. Country wide the largest morgage bank in the world Bear Stearns and Lehman brothers , and Merrill Lynch which are 3 out of the top 5 wall street firms. And now Fanny and Freddy which hold 50 percent of the home loans in the United States. The goverment took them over because they are essentially bankrupt. If they didn’t the entire financially system would virtually shut down, the stock market would crash And we would suffer beyond what any of us have seen before The future of these companies will fall into the hands of our next president
Bush just like Mcain doesn’t understand the economy.
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it
He does not understand exactly what is broken. Its no surprise that he doesnt. The people that make up these
securities use complex math models very few people understand.
Bush and mccain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.
Bush’s economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks take risks with all of our future.
Now Phil Graham is the head of mccains economic policy ,and mccain wants to make him the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time bush met with his economic advisors was in march. He either didnt realize or didnt care that anything was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy in our lifetime.
It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as bush has done mccain would be
incredibly worse because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a surplus like bush did but a tanking economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 deficit. Most of Bush created and it will take decades to pay it back.
If you do what you have always done then you will do get what you have always __________
When it comes to policy bush and mccain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why are the polls even close then ?
The chairman of mcains campaign recently said that people don’t vote on issues
they vote on a personality composite which means. He is trying to sell you personality instead of results.
He believes people will vote against there own self interests.
Lets teach him we are smarter then that .
Hold them accountable now while it will still help

What power do you have over me you ignorant bray, NONE. I’m also a committee member of my town, you going to criticize that know. What the h*ll have you done with you’re life Ms. Perfect! This bailout is not a bailout for the strugling American – it’s a plan by the fat cats for the fat cats. Obama involvement w. ACORN is not even mentioned in the news yet the special 20% funds the democrats wanted to ‘donate’ to ACORN is the main reason the bailout failed. We the people must ask for transparency – we want to know who gets the mony – no more hidden special interests – no more hidden ‘friends’ we the taxpayers will be forced to save. The Congress with the Pelosi, Reid, Dodd and Frank are the mains culpits – they and the laweyrs from ACORN who took to court banks who were not giving ‘preferential tratment’ to minorities for loans they coud not afford. Did I metion Obama was one of them??

I understand the seriousness of the economy, and the current crisis all to well. My husband and I own a residential framing business and were told today by our main contractor that he would not be starting any more houses until something is decided on the bail out plan…. so I get it. My point is this, McCain and Obama share a lot of thoughts on the situation and have said many of the same things. And lets be honest, no matter who wins the election, we will have about the same outcome either way on that subject. So, I will vote for the person who most mirrors my own beliefs. Someone who wants us out of Iraq. Someone who believes it is my right to choose to keep or abort a baby if I am raped. Someone who believes that I deserve health insurance even though I do not have an employer who will help me offset the cost. Someone who is not married to an oil company. Someone who respects me, a woman, enough to not select an inexperienced person as vice president, just to win votes.
OBAMA/ BIDEN 2008!!!!!

Christi: obama respects women so much he picked a footinmouth “old boy” as his running mate over Hillary. As far as wanting us out of Iraq, you’re wrong on that one too. There is no way on earth he will pull troops out because the mayhem that will ensue would fall on his shoulders. Furthermore, he is the one who tried to negotiate with the PM of Iraq to keep our troops there until well after election. I’m not sure what you mean by “deserve” health insurance. I guess you prefer someone who is “married” to the criminals behind the F&Ms from whom he himself profited nicely.

I can’t believe people actually fell for the Democrat’s ploy. Hasn’t anyone caught on that the Democrats purposely tried to push a bailout bill that more Republicans would vote for? The reason so many Democrats didn’t vote for it is because they wanted it to fail so that they could go back and put in place the original bailout plan( with contributions going to Democrat lobbyist groups.) Then claim that they “saved” the American people from financial crisis.
The Democrats did not need the Republicans to put the bailout plan into action. They have a majority.
Yet they put all the blame onto the Republicans. Typical.

Obama continues to look calm, in control, responsible, rational and – above all – presidential. I wish I could say the same about the way McCain has acted over the last two weeks, but I can’t. He’s been all over the map: not a source of calm, but a source of uncertainty, flailing anger and immaturity. Sad to say, but this campaign (and “handlers”) either ruined a man once respected by all, or revealed him as a fraud he’s always been.

The democrats are the naive ones? And who was it that has been calling for deregulations? So let me get this straight. Corporations don’t need any oversight and they can be trusted just like the little 5th graders?
BTW, You forgot to mention Rachel Maddows too. She’s been kicking more republican @$# with more logic than Schultz or Olberman lately.
Also, congratulations to Hannity the other night. He showed what a bigot he really was when he supported the father with the kid (Daxx Dalton) who wore the T-shirt “Obama is a terrorist’s best friend.” Are you kidding me. Is this the kind of media the republicans want informing us of daily national politics? To other republicans, did you agree with Sean Hannity’s support for this father and son’s actions? It’s one thing to disagree with Obama’s policies, but the idea of Obama somehow supporting terrorism is garbage. This all stems back to the republicans trying to somehow connect Obama’s name to being a muslim and thereby a terrorist as well. This is the kind of cheap crap that makes me sick of your party. I’d like to take you all behind the woodshed wear your @$$’s out.

S Adams, it’s all a cover-up. The information and connections is there, the news media which is controlled by liberal bias and not the truth, will only attack the other candidates and not the one they support. Just remember the Gore and Kerry tactics, the same. The only difference is this time around the candidate is black, which now brings out the race factor when he grew up in Hawaii which is not a state that does not have a history of racism. And why did he leave opportunities in law firms to go to Chicago? Ayers, they were at the same school, then Ayers left to Chicago to go to that committee board, then Obama followed. The only reason Obama had a connection to Rezko, was because of Ayers had connections to the corrupt political machine in Chicago. It’s all business connections. Ayers was building Obama up to run in politics, just to bring Ayers view of government, which is SOCIALISM, Obama’s same plan for change. Obama will go down for corruption just like the Illinois Governor is, and they are both tied together in this state. All of the $900 million in earmarks he got for Illinois, went straight to Chicago and Acorn. The rest of my state didn’t get sh**, which is exactly what the Governor has done. You wanna know about lies of change, google Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and research that corrupt f***. He said the same thing Obama is saying about change, but our taxes went higher on everybody and thing when he said he wouldn’t(Illinois is the heaviest taxed state in the Country). 100′s of trucking companies moved to neighboring states due to taxes on corporations and additional taxes on fuel, which is not good with the prices right now. Big and small companies have moved out of state due to taxes. Mom and Pop companies went out of business due to taxes. Our budget is now higher than it was when he came into office, when he said he would fix it. These are the same polices that Obama is running on, just research it and you will find it.

Top four liberals in the Senate – 1)Obama, 2)Kerry, 3)Kennedy, 4)Clinton. And who was the most liberal in political power in 2000, Al Gore. Does anyone know who brought Al Gore to President Clinton’s VP list, Hillary Clinton. This tells you just how much power liberals of taken from the Democratic Party. The only reason Clinton won the first time, was that he showed a view of moderate on the economy, and a conservative on the military and kept his liberal views out of the equation which got him elected. Hillary did the same, but was now overrode by her own party because of the liberal power within it. When Bill ran, liberals were a small majority in the Democratic Party. Now they are in Power. The only reason the Dems put Obama in the race was because of the race vote that Gore and Kerry had problem’s with. Hillary was just like Bill, liberal, but with moderate views on the economy and conservative on the military, which angered the liberals and which is why they called her to hawkish. Liberals had power now, which is why they elected Obama as their candidate. Hillary made her choice on her own with no support other than mods. and cons. Democrats and women voters. Did you notice how Obama mainly just got the liberal and race vote, and Hillary got the mod. and con. Democrat vote included with a huge vote from the women. That is why liberals were scared of losing the women vote, because there are still alot of women not liberal. Did you see how close that race was. Obama took away the race votes from Hillary which is what Bill won with. Pelosi(liberal) and Reid(liberal)were the one’s that asked Hillary to step down and give the nomination to Obama. Does anyone understand what I’m getting at. The liberals want full power of this Country to change(Obama)it into a socialist society. Women being liberals(personal reasons) with me is fine, but a liberal man(just for power and control)is dangerous. Just look at Castro and Chavez and their history. His redistribution plan is just like theirs. Does anyone know what is next after liberalism on the Democrat side, Socialism(Chavez) and then Communism(Castro-socialist communist)

Posted by: Vote for the Maverick | September 30, 2008, 7:43 pm 7:43 pm

I just looked it up, and liberal means, among other definitions…favorable to progress or reform…..favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties…

THE WALL STREET BAILOUT IS A TRAP:
YOU DID THE RIGHT THING people by stopping this 700 billion dollar bailout of Wall Street with your money. It’s a trap set by the Bush McCain administration years ago to spring on you, and the World just before the November elections. It will cripple our economy for years to come by taking away money from important social programs like health care reform, education, and social security.
What ever congress does to try and fix our stunning economic catastrophe needs to be done very carefully. Congress needs to take their time, and be sure of what they are doing. Whatever is done needs to be sharply focused at helping, and protecting the best interest of the ordinary Americans. In particular the vast American middle class. 700 billion dollars is a lot of the peoples money to spend to bail out a bunch of corrupt Bush loan sharks.
When have you ever known any government plan, or project to only cost what the government said it would. Remember the war in Iraq. Bush and his so-called advisers said it would only cost you about 80 billion dollars. But we now know that the war in Iraq will cost you, and your children, and your grand children over a trillion dollars, and still counting.
So if 80 billion can end up costing you over a trillion dollars. How much could 700 billion end up costing you. Any math wizards out there. I come up with 9 trillion…:-(
My fellow human beings, just as I warned you ahead of this catastrophic economic meltdown, I must now warn you that what is ahead has the potential to be even more catastrophic than what we are going through now. The worlds geopolitical landscape has been booby trapped by the Bush McCain administration and their republican allies in congress. These booby traps are poised to spring at any time.
Fortunately the Worlds Nations have been blessed with many excellent leaders (except the US) who have been careful, wise, strong, and self-restrained in dealing with the provocations, and antagonism’s of the Bush, McCain administration.
Barack Obama and the democrats are your best hope now. Tell your family, friends, and everyone you know to support them as best you can, and vote for them like your life, and the lives of your loved ones depends on it. Because it does. You will not survive 4 more years of Bush McCain.

Maverick, you still here?

Posted by: CHRISTI | September 30, 2008, 8:09 pm 8:09 pm

Christi, If you wanna know what a true liberal is, research FDR. He was a true liberal with christian principles. The problem with liberals now day’s is that they perverted that meaning in definition you just expressed with socialist Idea’s. Do you notice how liberals now days are in large against Christians and GOD as a whole. Even FDR worried of certain matters pertaining to liberalism being taken out of context by a mixture of socialism, he feared that would lead to to much power and control over Americans lives. The main culprits of perverting liberalism were brought on by the protesters in the Vietnam era. The so-called protesters that call themselves 3rd. party(or green)are those extremists that started the protesting in the 60′s, then started calling themselves liberals or socialist. When in fact that actually caused the split between the two and now have the same views but different agenda’s. The liberals believe in the socialist concept of help by converting by power and control of the less fortunate and redistribution of another’s wealth due to the thought of, the can afford it, it’s the right thing to do. The socialist sector then became radicals of free anarchy due to the no change policy(meaning nothing was changing, so we will it by force). These people are the angry and forceful one’s by physical and mental fear of another. My Point is this, liberalism today means socialism/liberalism. Socialism means socialism/on the verge of communism. Liberalism today is not liberalism in FDR’s time. If you want to be a true liberal, be FDR. If you want extreme liberalism, be like Obama. That is not a slam against Obama, just a fact. Look at the differences of FDR’s and Obama’s tax polices and redistribution liberalism and you will see a big difference.

Posted by: Vote for the Maverick | September 30, 2008, 8:15 pm 8:15 pm

Thanks, Maverick. I guess, no I know, I am not looking that deep into it. I agree on some points you made and disagree on others. This country was founded and continues to run on Christian values, which I have no problem with, even though I am unashamedly a person who questions the exixtence of God. I have no problem with it because I do believe the one universal value of Christianity is love. Which is the kind of life I lead. Love one another and do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The problem I think is that too many people are too quick to judge others for their lifestyle and choices. To be gay is not a sin, and if it was those who commited it would have to answer to God, not you or me, so who are we to say who someone else should or should not love? That to me would be something that a conservative would strongly disagree with. But, if my son, were to come to me in a few years when he is grown and say that he is gay, I would NOT like it! But he would still be my son, and his happiness is worth more than mine.
To me, in MY perception, liberal means… able to move forward and progress with time and new problems and situations.
To ME, conservative means someone who is not willing to do that.
So, again, thank you for showing me a new side to something that I had never thought of.
It sounds a bit like a conspiracy theory, but it also sounds like it might have threads of truth interlaced.

Posted by: CHRISTI | September 30, 2008, 8:34 pm 8:34 pm

Mr. Maverick Man. Let me get in on this. A little history check. Thomas Jefferson, principle author of the Declaration of Independence, was a Deist. I’m not going to define this for you. Look it up smarty pants. An don’t go acting as if FDR would be your best friend. He would be ashamed of you. He was our first true conservationist of the land and environmental steward. You republicans have set us back decade when comes to environmental conservation of our natural resources. Yes I am a liberal and your an idiot. Yes, I am agnostic. But I could still run cirles around you when it comes to scripture.
“Religion is for the weak minded”.

Christi, to really understand the Iraq situation, you have to understand GOD’s principles. GOD hates war just like us, understanding that GOD said himself to the angels(Christi, lol)let’s create man in our image. Now, GOD said it is the duty of the blessed to help the less fortunate, burden, oppressed, and in-slaved. Now, the Iraq situation is a political gesture to that reason with GOD and political polices involved. Bush said anyone who helps or harbors terrorist and their activities, will also be considered terrorist themselves. Iraq did not cooperate with us on that situation, Pakistan did, Libia did, Iran and North Korea has not. Saddam had no understand of the fact his two sons were helping Al Qaeda and other terrorist factions in the region. Which means that was Al Qaeda’s second highest base of it’s group of member’s were in Iraq. Remember, Saddam was a Muslim tyrant, not a terrorist, but his son’s were more on the side of Islamic terrorist. Bush said we were going to chase down Al Qaeda where ever they are, well, they were in Iraq causing problems for Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, and others in the region due to American presence being on their holy land. Bin Laden’s war is not just with us, but anyone who goes against the Koran’s principles. GOD, I bet is happy about the new freedom Iraqi’s have, but the next step for them is a personal relationship with him. Hating the Jewish people and Christians is not that next step. Islam was created 200yrs after Jesus crucifixion, which was when the creation of Christianity. Muslim’s look at Jesus as a prophet and no more. Jesus was about freedom from one’s sin and reconciliation with a relationship with GOD. Muhammad was a person of war, which is where Bin Laden gets his views of Islam. Now, we are a Christian nation freeing a Muslim nation from tyranny. Christians are people of love and peace, Muslim’s are people of war. Now, you will have Muslim’s say we are peaceful people, but those are the one’s that look past the actual teaching of Muhammad. Understand, we were attacked and are now taking the fight to them wherever Al Qaeda may be. The only reason we went to the U.N. was to gain more military support so are forces would not be strained with such a large force of presence, so we would be able to do other operations against Al Qaeda. If we did have the U.N.’s support, you would have seen us go into Indonesia with a larger presence, because Al Qaeda was there also. I’m going to stop there for now, because I’m probably going to anger you with these comments and other liberals. I’m going to take a break for now, leave another post if you have another questions.

I guess a lot of you are suckers for punishment…That you seriously think that mccant is capable of running this country-it baffles the mind.
If it wasn’t for the fact that your presidents affect the rest of the world-This whole thing would be laughable-instead of pathetic.

Rational Thought, I think you may have finally given me the word I have been looking for. I knew I wasnt atheist…yet. Thanks, from one agnostic (maybe) to another.

Rational, LOL, scriptures is the last thing you would run around me on. You may have remembered scripture to throw what you consider hypocrisy of the christian faith in believers faces, but I actually understand GOD’s word for what it is and means, that’s the difference between us. My faith means more to me than you thinking you’re smarter than me because you so-called educated yourself on religious matter’s, and for what, anger, hatred, revenge. Just remember, Christians are not going to back down because you and Jesse think religion is for the weak. Might I also remind you that Ventura was a hard core Navy Seal in Vietnam, his nature of that being is that he saw a lot of people killed for what he thought religion was involved, so that is the why he thinks religion is for the weak. Now, if you understand anything about Christianity, it is a faith, not a religion. The religious part of Christian’s comes from the Jewish faith. Meaning, I’m spiritual, and religious by the the Jewish belief, and you’re anger and judgement really shines through.

Your quite welcome. You have to be careful throwing that term around in this country (at least in the SE where I’m from). It can be taken as an offensive word, often mistaken by the “worthy ones”, as aetheist. Damn, the religiousless!
Its hilarious when I hear people like “Mr. maverick Man” call people like me a crazies and left wing nuts.
Yea, don’t dare think outside the box, that’s crazy talk. Hey, Maverick, grow a set and make an argument that’s not based around your religion.

Where are you from, and please dont say Alabama. :) damn crimson tide

Christi, rational is the liberalism I was talking about, hard core leftist with no heart. They are the one’s that brings anger and hatred to the arena. Please don’t ever become that type of liberal, because I’m not perfect, and I don’t judge, other than hate and arrogance, but that is still not judgement, but defense on offense. I fear GOD, but by his teaching I also understand in defense of the truth that I have a right to defend my beliefs, which is exactly what Israel does. Rational is exactly the extremist liberal I was explaining about, they just hate and attack and expect it not to come back to them, because they are right and everybody else is wrong with no debate or argument, other than theirs being higher and more righteous than others. Am I saying all Christians are perfect, no, nobody is. But extreme liberal leftest think they are. Intelligence is their attack factor thinking everyone who is not liberal, are nothing but religous freaks with no brain, nice way to get along with each other, eh.

Rational, if you call yourself a deist, what did GOD say about creation of the world and man? Come on Mr. smartypants!

Christi, GOD works through his children to help others in protection and defense of truth. That is the basis and nature of the Jewish and Christians.

I have my truth and you have your fairy tell. A conglomeration of El and Yahwey in the old testiment to one day have a son, Jesus and his lover Mary.
By the way, as a Christian who is more of a Christian candidate? McCain, who openly admits to cheating on his first wife multiple times with several women, including Cindy, while she lay forever crippled following a car wreck. I guess he got forgiveness from Jesus before he married into Cindy, who happend to be hire of a 100 million dollar estate. To my recollection Obama has remained faithful to his first sife and kids and to his Christian faith. Go ahead, make up some lies to justify this man. POW or not doesn’t change who someone really is…
Well, I’m done with this conversation. I’ll let the religious man, excuse me faithful man, have the last word,,, they always do.
I’ll pray for you tonight Maverick Man.

Little thoughts I have heard and thought I would share. I have enjoyed laughing at the banter back and forth on this site over ACORN references.
If abortion is murder…what do you call war?
Jesus was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor.
Rational thought for GOP had a good analogy by the way.
I have a hard time voting for a old man who couldn’t even pick out a decent VP candidate. This is the man making decisions for the future of my children…it is a very scary thought. I would much rather have a Harvard graduate that graduated at the top of his class that has more business sense in his little pinky than a man who isn’t playing with a full deck (Agent Orange is what Bush brought up during his run against him and won). McCain has one foot in the grave about to give control over to a beauty queen broadcast graduate who has no idea what foreign policy is all about. She must have missed that class in school. I can’t even fathom what would happen to our country if he should die and she would take over our country.
I would respect McCain a lot more if he could think for himself and stop riding the coat tails of others…he is even riding the media train bragging about Palin. I want a person who can think for themselves and not depend on others to make bad decisions for them…McCain is another Bush…I don’t know how anyone can’t see that.

Rational, judgement through arrogance and hatred is your nature. Did I ever say I’m voting for McCain based on him being a Christian, No! One’s sin’s is between them and GOD, if that was my basis, I would not like McCain either or even Obama with his other views and actions, but it’s not. It’s not my job to forgive people for their shortcomings other than personal attacks on me, which with you I will turn my cheek but not back down from your angered attacks. Obama’s mistake If you really want to is keeping his family in a church of hatred. If it were not so, he would not have left, which I believe it was just a political move and not protecting his family. A wife and kids is a gift from GOD and the responsability of the husband and father to protect them from any harm. Obama finally agreed Rev. Wrights comments were wrong within the Christian faith, at least if not a politcal move, he understood that principle if that’s the reason for his actions. Rev. Wright and you would get along just find i bet. And here’s some info for you’re brain, Genesis 1:1-2, 1:27, Psalm 33:6, 89:11, Revelation 4:11. Enjoy, GOD Bless, and you’re in my prayers.

It becomes more and more apparent everyday that a McCain presidency would not be the SAME as a Busy presidency– it would actually be WORSE. McCain: Afraid to Face the American people. Not Ready to Lead….Now More Than Ever We Need: President Obama

Until the last day or so I was not clear on what was going on in D.C. and bought the line that the MSM (and yes, many on Faux News) were putting out.
Now it is clear that it was Democrats (Socialists) who ignored the mortgage situation 4 years ago including good ‘ol Barney, and it was McCain and other Republcians who at that time worked to reform the GSE regulations to insure better oversight-but the Dems blocked it.
Also clear is that the Democrats are blaming the Republicans for not passing the bail out legislation (trash that it is) while 90 some of their own in the House wouldn’t support it. Pelosi’s tirade made it clear that this is something that the Dems see as beneficial for them and Obama, Country and taxpayer be damned!
Bush should fire Paulson and Cox (and, yes, McCain was right, the SEC chief serves at the pleasure of the President-look it up).
Barry better hope that the MSM keeps muddying the waters or many voters are going to start seeing where most of this mess came from and it wasn’t from Republicans trying to bully banks into giving mortgages to minorities, but rather Dems and their Social engineering, and the greed of those who were entrusted to oversee the GSEs.
It’s also coming out that McCain did indeed show leadership and was instrumental in getting something done rather than throwing money at the problem, something that I’m not happy with the President about.

Sandy B: You need to adjust your attitude. I haven’t read one positive comment from you in weeks. You sound bitter about something. What is really bothering you? Try saying something positive about your candidate without putting the others down. That just might create some positive thoughts about him and her.

It amuses me how how little you right wing nuts have on Obama that you keep recycling the same old debunked arguments, and copying and pasting Steve Schmidt’s deceitful and manipulative diatribes like it was the gospel. It’s time for a change people, you’ll come to appreciate it later, it’s going to be hard for you guys to accept it in the beginning, but it will all be for the better.

Who do you want to run your country? You want a statesmen running things, that’s who. Everytime a Republican uses the word elite like its a bad word, I cringe. Why do they do that?
Elite (also spelled Élite) is taken originally from the Latin, eligere, “to elect”. The position of an elite at the top of the social strata almost invariably puts it in a position of leadership. So you want the elite to run our country. By definition!!! Who else?
There are farmers. Sure, we need farmers. We need men that understand how things grow, the best pesticides to use, how genetically enhanced food will eventually start to effect our physical evolution, how to clean water, how to irrigate, how to make dry areas green, how to effectively fertilize without having any ill affects on local water systems. How to thoughtfully bring the grow areas closer to market so that we save on energy and travel costs. We need farmers. We need smart farmers. But we don’t need them to run the country.
We need dentists and doctors . We need people who have spent their years learning to keep our bodies healthy and save lives. Dentists and doctors are essential to prevent the spread of massive disease and thereby head off all sorts of economic and environmental disasters. But we don’t need one to run our country.
We need teachers. Someone must gather the mistakes of the past, and teach those lessons to us as children, so we can build on that information and offer a better life to our kids. We need teachers to give us basic skills like reading and math and language in order to function effectively in society. We need teachers to introduce us to imagination, art, and music. And at the very least, we need teachers to watch the kids for a few hours so as parents, you can have some sanity. But we don’t need a teacher to run the country.
We need builders. Someone has to know how to make brick and mortar, how to create a home, how to make it safe, bring in plumbing and electricity, and construct a family’s home base to return to generation after generation. But we don’t need a builder to run our country.
We need sheriffs. Someone has to stop those with mad cow disease from killing, raping, stealing, and swindling the rest of us. But we don’t need that sheriff to run the country. We need him to run the legal enforcement system.
We need generals. We need those who clearly see chess-like decisions 30 moves ahead and can instill bravery and duty in their men. But we don’t need those generals, skilled in the art of war and destruction, to run our country.
We need soldiers. In a time of crisis, we need them to save and rescue. In a time of fear and intrusion and attack, we need those who will rise and defend us. We need those who will follow orders and trust in their commanders to see the bigger picture. But we don’t need them to put down their weapons and lead the country.
Leaders should be leaders. Those who listen and engage those around them. Those who amalgamate and gather information. Those who surround themselves with uninterested parties. And if there are special interest people in our leader’s inner circle, let them be the type of people who work for the greater good. A leader should be someone who can compromise and negotiate. Those who understand job creation. Someone who is compassionate. We need a leader who can analyze data. Someone who makes friends and allies. A leader should be able to keep the cost of living down. Our leaders should be those who choose peace and can and will build a framework to keep it. Although I am more spiritual than religious, I feel that those who are pious and moral would make the best leaders. Answering to a higher power is always a good motivation for making the best decisions. Leaders should be hopeful and undamaged. We need someone who is as whole emotionally as possible, not someone who could easily have been deeply affected by being kept in a hole.
Leaders should be leaders. Those who have peaceful homes and respect the constitution of family and marriage. Those who are engaging and endearing. Those without bloodlust. Those who do not wish to instigate (audio of McCain on wanting to be where the guns were firing to be inserted here), We need those who deliberate. Those who know its easier to say no, than to say yes, but still chose to say yes. We need problem solvers, peacekeepers, those who can hire well (Rick Davis et al data here). Those who are well informed and instill loyalty. That is to say, if they don’t know something, those closest to our leader make sure they find it out, and quickly, almost before anyone else.
Leaders should be leaders. Those who value education above all. Not someone who puts down anyone with an education. A leader of this country should remember the tired, the helpless, the poor. Our leader should understand the incredibly valuable commodity that our country has to offer, opportunity. Our leaders should hold that opportunity dear and do all they can to keep it accessible, abundant, and contemporary. Our leaders should understand that upholding the availability of opportunity is the best export we have and that channeling that opportunity into the green job market would be for the good of our planet. Our leader should be someone who can get the world to join us in our efforts and maybe even recruit those allies to help us fund worldwide green research and implementation. Our leaders should walk the walk and drive a green car to be a good example for the nation. And when our economy is in trouble, we need someone who will sound the alarm, early on (see footage of Obama) and not try to lull the masses (see video of McCain)
Leaders should be leaders. Those who are willing to admit and point out when others are right. Those who can look you in the eye. We need someone you can innately trust. Those who get involved the minute there is a problem, and start working toward a solution (Bush continued to read to the kindergartners on 9/11, McCain stayed in NY two extra days when the economy crashed and did not participate in negotiations). Our leader should know basic geography. For instance, Spain is in Europe, not in Latin America, not in Mexico, and not in our hemisphere. Iraq doesn’t border……
Leaders should be leaders. Those who can unite minorities and raise them up to the level of everyone else. The history of the United States is fraught with mistakes, massive slavery of a people, annihilations of the native Americans, persecution of the native Hawaiians, disregard for the native American Eskimos. This legacy must no longer be passed on.
If you look at all the living ex-Presidents, you will see that the 4 or 8 years really age them. They almost seem to age quicker than the rest of us. Maybe its the stress, the lack of sleep, or the critics, but each time the office seems to take its toll. We need someone who can take the ageing element out of being President, by starting out younger.
We need heroes. We do. We treasure them. We look up to them. We respect them. But in a leader, we need someone who will use their reach to gather solutions, not reach out to their minions and encourage them to “kill the other guy.” (See different messages that went out from both campaigns. Barack asking for suggestions, McCain asking his camp to continue to slander and defame the other guy.)
Can you honestly say that McCain is this leader?

Consider PRAYing Psalms 3, 4 & 5 on a daily basis for your candidate! Use them as a JUMPING OFF point for prophetic intercession.
By the way, Psalm 4 was Smith Wiggelsworth’s favorite!

Tell your friends, and show them the proof.
Adolf Hitler was well-known to have used hypnosis on crowds to gain power in Germany. (Just Google it if you doubt it.) So why cant this happen in America? It is happening.
Now, this document, An Examination of Obama’s Use of Hidden Hypnosis Techniques in His Speeches is really spreading. Many people, including young people, are starting to wake up.
Young people have come up with a saying, “Don’t drink the kool-aid Obama is pushing on you.”
Obama has no accomplishments, we don’t know him, he wrote a memoir, he has racist connections, he is using hypnosis, and he thinks he’s the Messiah and that he should be in control of the world. We’ve seen this story before in Germany in the 1930′s, haven’t we? We know what happened there.
Obama’s use of hypnosis in speeches is why:
-nothing sticks to him
-the huge crowds
-the huge money contributions
-the mesmerized effect, especially in young people, who, because of their imaginations are more susceptible to hypnosis (read the document)
-the exorbitant election fraud, rule-breaking and bias in the media
-he gets away with changing every position
-people are calling him the “greatest leader of a generation” with no accomplishments
You have to read this document to understand how his hypnosis works. Logically and rationally, why not get to know this guy a little more before handing the world over to him? Why not wait?
An Examination of Obama’s use of Hidden Hypnosis Techniques in His Speeches can be found at
