Obama Readies for First Debate With McCain

ABC News’ Sunlen Miller reports: Senator Barack Obama will spend three days in the battleground state of Florida preparing for Friday’s debate.

The democratic nominee will leave Chicago on Tuesday to set up debate prep shop in the Tampa area, complete with a litany of advisors in tow.

Friday’s debate in Mississippi focuses on foreign policy – and Greg Craig, one of Obama’s top foreign policy advisors – will play the role of John McCain in mock debate situation.

David Axelrod, Obama’s Senior Advisor, said that Obama started debate prep last week – mostly reading during down times on the campaign trail.

Candidates regularly set up their debate prep operation in battleground states – Obama’s choice of Florida follows a weekend of campaigning in the Sunshine state – and as most polls have him running neck-and-neck with John McCain.

"I’m confident that we’re going to win this thing," Obama said during a fundraiser in Miami on Friday night."I’ll tell you, we can win this thing without Florida, but boy, it’s a lot easier if we win Florida. If we win Florida, it is almost impossible for John McCain to win."

vs – there hasn’t been a president in history who was able to keep all his promises but the question to ask is “who is going to take care of this country best”? Republicans steer things one way – financially benefitting big business and giving tax breaks to big corporations (oil) and the democrats steer things more to us folks – you know, the workers of the country. We’ve seen what the republicans have done in the past eight years – bringing this country to its knees. Let’s give the democrats a chance to make things better. Obama wants to lower taxes for people making under $250,000 a year and raise taxes for people making over $250,000 a year. I’m not going to argue with that. Living paycheck to paycheck ain’t fun.

Obama is finally back on track, thanks to media’s relentless attack on Palin and a huge financial crisis.
It is ironic that the candidate who can only say “I will” but not “I did or I have done” relies on:
1. an economic crisis to get 3-point lead
2. a delay troop withdrawal to to make his judgment look right
3. a mob of haters to smear and discredit a governor with 86% approval rate so that he can look more experienced.
The liberal media’s intolerance is appalling. interestingly, Obama’s political career is up when America goes down.

1 the economic crisis is actually why we elect Presidents not on the stuff Mccain has been throwing out there to take focus off that.

3. Palin had an 80% approval because the oil compnanies made a lot of money off us…Alaska is an oil and gas economy dependent state who saw record state financial numbers…
allowing Palin to do Obama’s windfall profit tax, increase spend the State budget by 60% (that was all coming there even before she came to office) and still take the money from the rest of the country in earmarks at a per capita average that is 20 times the next governor in the country.

Let’s go Florida! We cannot afford to let the same people who voted for the mess we are in right now to get another four years of what they are asking for. They were confused and misled then, and looks like nothing has changed. Clearly we all need to be reminded of the issues at stake (health care, education, women’s rights, economic policies…), not just for OURSELVES but for our children — to give them a fighting chance to compete in the global economy.
This PhD graduate student, working three jobs to put herself through school is making the only logical choice this year. Obama/Biden ’08

To everyone who wants the government out of their business: There is a long history of government staying out of life of the citizen, allowing them to interact with business alone. This failed. Look to the mid to late 19th century US history for this. Business left to itself ends up self serving, ultimately inhibiting the liberty of the people. That is why, after many long and hard fought battles, has government stepped in to protect the people from industrial capitalism. This is basic US history 101, and it is on the side of government regulation to temper business in order to protect the quality of the lives of the citizens.

Obama took 10 days to write a speech. He needs 1 week to prepare for debate. Hell when there is a crisis without advisor he will say PRESENT and wait for 2 days to make decition.

The light shines on. Obama’s $9 million dollar fundraiser in Hollywood was hosted by Penny Pritzker, hotel heiress, and she is also hosting a private dinner for Akmadinajad in honor of the end of Ramadan when he comes to the UN to speak. Obama had to have an excuse not to attend the Jewish Protest againt Akmadinajad and Iran, so he made Hillary drop out first. This gave him an opening to pressure the organizers of the protest to disinvite Palin and any other candidates who were planning on being there, like himself. This gave Obama the chance he needed to avoid protesting his Arab brother Akmadenajad and not make the Jewish community mad at him.
I hope Hillary Clinton hasn’t sold the Jewish community out to get her campaign debt paid off. I thought Hillary was made of better stuff. If this country needs to be united about anything, it’s against our enemies and not each other.

It seems every day we learn something new about Sarah Palin.
Before I begin, let me say she is an intellegent woman. Still, her choice as VP raises questions about the INTELLEGENCE of John McCain.
1. She spend 50 THOUSAND DOLLARS redecorating her office when she became mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.
2. She asked everyone employed by the town to submit a letter of resignation to SHOW THIER LOYALTY TO HER.
3. She fired the town librarian (who was rehired under a flurry of protest) because the librarian didn’t respond well to Sarah’s suggestion that some books be banned from the library.
4. She fired the long time police chief after he proposed changing the closing time for the bars from 5 AM to 2 AM. He was concerned about people driving up from Anchor when the bars there closed for more liquor. The bar owners were major contributors.
5. She started construction on an iceskating rink that was supposed to cost $1.7 MILLION on land without obtaining title first! This was private property and she went to court trying to steal it from the rightful owner.
As a result of this and other flub ups, the cost ballooned to $15 MILLION. Some manager.
6. The lake in front of her home is DEAD. Every year the Alaska Natural Resources department restocks it with fish, who promptly die. Reason? Runoff from uncontrolled growth. That is Republican environmentalism.

Part of the reason the surge “worked” is Shiite militants drove minority Sunnis out of Baghdad neighborhoods– ethnic cleansing– causing a drop in violence prior to the surge in 2007. Satellite images from this time period verify this population “relocation”.

Here is the Barack Obama are so afraid of. Excerpted from his speech before the DNC in 2004:
“My parents shared not only an improbable love, they shared an abiding faith in the possibilities of this nation. They would give me an African name, Barack, or ”blessed,” believing that in a tolerant America your name is no barrier to success. They imagined — They imagined me going to the best schools in the land, even though they weren’t rich, because in a generous America you don’t have to be rich to achieve your potential.
They’re both passed away now. And yet, I know that on this night they look down on me with great pride.
They stand here — And I stand here today, grateful for the diversity of my heritage, aware that my parents’ dreams live on in my two precious daughters. I stand here knowing that my story is part of the larger American story, that I owe a debt to all of those who came before me, and that, in no other country on earth, is my story even possible.
Tonight, we gather to affirm the greatness of our Nation — not because of the height of our skyscrapers, or the power of our military, or the size of our economy. Our pride is based on a very simple premise, summed up in a declaration made over two hundred years ago:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
That is the true genius of America, a faith — a faith in simple dreams, an insistence on small miracles; that we can tuck in our children at night and know that they are fed and clothed and safe from harm; that we can say what we think, write what we think, without hearing a sudden knock on the door; that we can have an idea and start our own business without paying a bribe; that we can participate in the political process without fear of retribution, and that our votes will be counted — at least most of the time.
This year, in this election we are called to reaffirm our values and our commitments, to hold them against a hard reality and see how we’re measuring up to the legacy of our forbearers and the promise of future generations.
And fellow Americans, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, I say to you tonight: We have more work to do — more work to do for the workers I met in Galesburg, Illinois, who are losing their union jobs at the Maytag plant that’s moving to Mexico, and now are having to compete with their own children for jobs that pay seven bucks an hour; more to do for the father that I met who was losing his job and choking back the tears, wondering how he would pay 4500 dollars a month for the drugs his son needs without the health benefits that he counted on; more to do for the young woman in East St. Louis, and thousands more like her, who has the grades, has the drive, has the will, but doesn’t have the money to go to college.
Now, don’t get me wrong. The people I meet — in small towns and big cities, in diners and office parks — they don’t expect government to solve all their problems. They know they have to work hard to get ahead, and they want to. Go into the collar counties around Chicago, and people will tell you they don’t want their tax money wasted, by a welfare agency or by the Pentagon. Go in — Go into any inner city neighborhood, and folks will tell you that government alone can’t teach our kids to learn; they know that parents have to teach, that children can’t achieve unless we raise their expectations and turn off the television sets and eradicate the slander that says a black youth with a book is acting white. They know those things.
People don’t expect — People don’t expect government to solve all their problems. But they sense, deep in their bones, that with just a slight change in priorities, we can make sure that every child in America has a decent shot at life, and that the doors of opportunity remain open to all.
They know we can do better. And they want that choice.”

I would like to remind everyone that John McCain voted against JUSTICE for women who can prove they were intentionally discriminated against because of their gender.
Read Lilly Ledbetter’s story, summarized in this New York Times editorial):
“Hillary Clinton got most of the attention on Tuesday, but another woman who spoke at the Democratic convention that night also brought the delegates — especially the women delegates — to their feet.
Her name is Lilly Ledbetter.
Ms. Ledbetter does not have Senator Clinton’s star power, but she could end up being an important force in driving votes to Mr. Obama.
Last year, Ms. Ledbetter was the losing party in Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire.
Ms. Ledbetter was a manager in a Goodyear plant in Gasden, Alabama. A jury found that Goodyear discriminated against her in pay, giving her smaller raises than the male managers, and awarded her $3 million in damages. The Supreme Court, by a 5-4 vote, threw out that award, ruling that Ms. Ledbetter had filed her complaint too late.
It was an ideologically driven decision — one that tossed aside precedent and logic.
After the ruling, Democrats in Congress tried to change how deadlines in equal pay cases are calculated. The House passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, but Republicans blocked it in the Senate.
Senator Obama supported the Ledbetter bill. John McCain argued that it was not needed.
Independent and moderate Republican women are likely to be a key swing voting block in November.
The Obama campaign’s top strategists said Thursday that they intend to make at least two special appeals to them.
One is about reproductive choice. Polls show that many women do not know that Senator McCain is strongly anti-abortion. According to a recent report in the Wall Street Journal, Senator McCain will not fight to include exceptions for rape and incest in the Republican Party platform’s call for an abortion ban.
The other issue is equal pay. Ms. Ledbetter, who lost by one vote in the Supreme Court last year, could play a major role in deciding who gets to fill the next vacancies on the court.”

They are being maniputated by the MSM, and their poll question is do they trust a GOP candidate more then they fear the unknown of BHO. As eloquent as BHO as been about rising above the political fray, it seems to me he quickly dove ino the pig sty of attack ads when he had to. If the American’s vote in BHO it will have confirmed my thesis that they would have voted Paris Hilton as POTUS as long as she was the Dem candidate. There is a reason why America’s enemies are rooting for the Democrats. They know that the United States will be ready for the taking with a lightweight like Obama at the helm.
It would be like putting a 3-year-old in charge of a nuclear power plant, and then being surprised when all heII breaks loose.
But then again, when one sees the lows that the Democrats will stoop to (like hiring 30 lawyers to go to Alaska to dig up dirt like a National Enquire frenzy – or getting a State Rep’s son to hack into Palin’s personal email and post her private emails on the internet) perhaps it is time for a good cleansing in the U.S.
Too bad countries like Russia or Iran will be the ones to do it – many innocent people will suffer at the incompetent hands of Obama.

I wish someone could give me an objective reason (which would not involve attempting to smear Obama or Biden) for why I should vote for McCain/Palin. I have many Republican friends, and have seen many comments on this site and others, and have yet to meet one person who could name me ONE reason how the Republicans can put our country into a better position than it was four or eight years ago. It’s impossible. The only way the Republicants can win this election is by smearing Obama and Biden, which is evident by the fact that Obama is winning in the polls any time the race becomes issues based. So here’s my challenge…Republicans, talk to me. Give me one reason why I should vote (objectively) for McCain/Palin.

Obama is smart and does something McCain doesn’t; gather information and do research, Obama will read everything about his opponent, about his record, about his politics, philosophies, tones etc. to rip him a new one…

Oh yes! There are plenty of reasons not to vote for Obama/Biden (Osama bin Laden). Here are some of the reasons:
1. I don’t want the USA to become a Socialist/Communist State with his income “redistribution” approach.
2. I don’t want the USA to be a welfare State with his “gov’t taking care of everyone” approach.
3. I don’t want to turn the White House into Southside Chicago (thugs!)
4. I love this country and love it EVERY day, not just ONLY “during my adult life”

Let’s clarify the Obama/Biden plan for health insurance.
Barack Obama wants the government to offer, at a discount price for some Americans, the same insurance plan that he and John McCain and all members of Congress currently enjoy.
Then you can make the choice for your own family if you prefer your current employer provided insurance or to buy your own in the private marketplace or the same health insurance as enjoyed by Congress.

I agree Nat Turner. This is the ultimate test. Whose policy is best for the US? When you take away the rhetoric and innudendo, McCain/Palin is just not a logical choice. Let’s answer some of these questions:
–Some say that Obama will be socialist. Well, look at what’s happened the past few days with the market. When the government is loaning companies like AIG money, that’s socialism. Don’t think we already have socialism in this country? What about the post office, public educational system, fire department and police department. so, if you’re against any type of socialism, pay for your own mail carrier when he brings your mail. The cops should charge you per incident they report to.
Thus, they say, Obama wants socialized medicine. Wrong again. Obama said you may choose to have the plan that he puts forth, which is the same that congress has. You will not lose your insurance if you have it already. Think this does not exist? It DOES. NY has the health plus plan, which is specifically designed for those who can not pay for their own insurance (ie students or the unemployed). I don’t lose my health insurance and others can have something to cover their health needs.
Some say that Biden said that more taxes is patriotic. Not true again. Look at the entire transcript of that interview. He said that only the very wealthiest should pay more taxes out of patriotism, which was an idea started by Teddy Roosevelt, conservative icon and hero of John McCain.
You see? No objective reason (without smearing Obama/Biden) to vote for McCain/Palin.

How does raising corporate taxes help generate jobs?
The primary objective is to produce jobs, when you raise taxes to the very ones that would produce jobs would make it impossible to hire anyone. Hence, NO JOBs -> NO Taxes coming in the Treasury.

Obama/Biden presidency will get the U.S. back on track internationally.
Our country is an embarrassment especially with our financial crisis, and continues to lose respect among other countries.
Eight years of Bush has not helped this decline. Bringing in “disassociated” McCain/Palin is a joke. If you believe this disassociation from the existing GOP, then there is ocean front property for sale at a really cheap price in Idaho.

Frankly, I’m impressed with a woman who is considers herself to be a pitbull with lipstick. Palin is not. That would be descriptive of my mother who I love dearly an who is highly respected in our community. To get order and make sure things get done, she is the type that, if she has to, she will not hesitate to kick ass and take names to make sure she got everybody and then will serve a hot meal afterwards. She get’s the job done. Excellent for D.C. Mrs. Palin doesn’t have those real qualities: Alaska doesn’t qualify. New York maybe.

The CEO’s of these companies do not care about any of their workers. The executives of Lehman brothers and the other corporations were being picked up by limos after giving themselves a healthy million plus dollar bonus while the workers were leaving with all of their belongings and weeping openly. Some of these bonuses would have been enough to hire at least 10 workers. The myth of giving the wealthiest the tax breaks to create jobs while having everyone else shoulder the tax burden has just been debunked!!
But, let me get this straight…It’s OK for a CEO to accept a buyout or loan from the government to sustain business, and that’s not socialism, but when we try to provide the poor with medical care from the government, that is? Huh? explain.

Interesting that McCain’s age is such an issue…a concern, yes, but his age shouldn’t be the point. Just look at some of the old folks in Congress and on the Supreme Court. We foolishly assume that the President has some kind of absolute power. Thus Clinton taking credit for an economy he didn’t/couldn’t foster within the limits of presidential power, and Bush the blame in spite of those same restrictions.
In a way, I’d like to see Mr. Obama get elected. I think we should have a pool on how long it takes them to leak it..little by little…that he is indeed a Muslim after all. Perhaps when he meets with Arabs and speaks to them in their own language might be a giveaway.
So? you might say? Well, if it is true then he lied. In a more stable world, it shouldn’t make a difference. But after Lockerbee, Munich, London, Madrid, Beirut, 9-11 and on and on, it does matter. If he is indeed a Muslim that would be akin to having had Dr. Goebbels run against FDR in ’44.
BTW-I wonder if they’ll let Obama use teleprompters at the debate? Maybe they’ll even have Barbara Wa-Wa asking some of the questions?

Yet another Sunday Morning passes and no Sarah Palin on the talk show circut. What is she hiding from??? Real questions from true reportes out to find the facts just the facts. Like how her pipe line might not get built after all her hoop laa about how great she did obtaining it like its not even started and she is crowing as if the line is in a pumping gas south. Or mabey about her 25 mile road to no where instead of the bridge the road that cost 25 million and is good for nothing but racing on. Gee Governor lets hear more about your great money cutting ideas that are just lies.

I’m a strong liberally-minded female, (though not a ‘leftist’.) However I will defend to the death your right to hold, share and vote your beliefs if they happen to be different from mine.
There are two sides to every issue and if we are persons of conscience it’s simply natural to choose a side and defend it.
Can we ‘agree to disagree’, discuss our views, and possibly LEARN SOMETHING from one another? I believe THAT is the reason forums like this one have been provided.
Understandably, some of us are quite frustrated and need to vent. Can’t we do this in a little more productive way? It’s becoming destructive and pointless the way communication has broken down here. Also, this silly business involving the placement of makeup on animals has just got to stop. Seriously now. It’s a simple metaphor and quite overworked.
Can’t we please personally control the fashion in which we defend our beliefs? If the people on this blog cannot even treat each other with respect, what right do we have to demand that of our elected officials?

There’s obviously a lot of homework that needs to be done given the intelligence content of, and spirit in which some of these comments are made.

The choice is easy. NOObama. This is a man who cannot be trusted with our country. He is an empty suit with a white hating wife who is a liar. He has zero experience, needs a teleprompter to give speeches with and has associated himself with some of the most vile people, all of whom he has thrown under his tour bus. He has NO character, and would sell out our country for his own personal gain. Obama is a joke. America is waking up and he will not win in November. McCain/Palin because it is about country first.
