Obama Sets Fundraising Record in August, Thanks to Palin
Before August, Sen. Barack Obama’s best fundraising month was February, when he raised $55 million.
Obama, D-Ill., was set to just fall short of that in August, a month that included some vacation time in Hawaii, when all of a sudden, on August 29, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.
Obama campaign officials reported that the Palin pick not only energized the GOP base, she energized her opponents, as well. Within 24 hours of McCain’s surprise announcement that he’d picked Palin — a conservative governor who, just two years ago, was a small-town mayor who had never obtained a passport — the Obama campaign had raised more than $10 million.
And money kept coming in through the end of August and beyond, Obama campaign officials say.
Thus, it was Palin who enabled Obama to raise more money in August than has ever been raised in history. Yet another accomplishment for her precedent-setting candidacy.

Sen. DeMint: GOP Race Could Go Until Convention
Obama Avoids Questions on Contraception Rule
Jake, The $10 Million that they raised from Sarah Palin was in the day after she made her speech at the GOP convention, which was in September, so it isnt reflected in the August numbers. I think you are doing a great job, i just thought i would clarify.

I think that’s more donors than McCain has total. Or at least its damn close.

As a former Democrat and now a Republican–I quit sending money to Democrats after Hillary dropped out.
There is no way I would ever support Obama–in my gut I have never trusted him and never will.
And the fact that Pelosi, Dean, DNC so willingly supported the weaker, less qualified candidate, with such shady associates–has turned me off of all Democrats.

You know Obama supporters are scared when they start throwing money at Obama upon the mere mention of Sarah Palin’s name.
I have said it before and I will say it. Sarah Palin is the most powerful woman in the WORLD. She is running for VP but everybody thinks she is running for president.
Where were all these critics when Obama announced his presidency. Poor Hillary she must be furious. She could not get on a mountain high enough to scream that Obama had no experience and everybody including Jake Tapper ignored her. Now with Sarah Palin experience matters again. It only hurst Obama. On November 4 the choice will be between no experience obama and experienced McCain. If experience matters so much to these journalist than I guess McCain has their vote. But I doubt it.

People who get their news only from their tv or newspapers don’t know what is really going on. And often youth think they can change the world, make a difference, and are easily fooled. I read way back that the horrible Bush/Cheney Energy Bill of 2005 that was quietly passed (which Obama voted for and Clinton and McCain voted against because it was totally irresponsible and threw billions of taxpayer dollars at big oil and energy and is partly why we are suffering now) is key to this election. The ones who control MSM are the ones who profited from that legislation, and who stand to profit from putting bo in office. The DNC chose Obama because they thought he could bring in the youth to strengthen the party for the long-term, and they could control him while at the same time use the Chicago style politics for “winning” elections and ensuring a continuous money flow.

Women and men are outraged to see the Palin pick for what it is: Sexism used as a gimmick for political leverage. The most important decision McCain has had to make and he went with a gimmick. If it wasn’t a gimmick wouldn’t he have met with her more than once to make sure she was the right choice? If McCain had properly vetted her, why would he choose someone under investigation for harassment and abuse of power? So many qualified Republicans and McCain cowed to the far right making a reckless choice. His lack of judgement speaks volumes.

500,000 new donors to Obama’s campaign, for a total of 2.5 million donors. Never before in history have so many people given to a campaign in small amounts of $10, $20.
After I heard Palin’s, speech I donated $25. Not because of her belittling of Obama but because the McCain/Palin ticket represents fear and hate while Obama represents change and hope.
I had never before given a dime to any campaign.

Let’s see we have some fake Democrats & some outright lies about Obama.
But you can tell this bothers them because of how much they howl.
Yes it hurts to find out that Obama took in a record $66M dollars with 500,000 NEW Donors.
It hurts that Obama is supported far more by small donations than any candidate has ever been. 75% of Obama’s donations are $200 or less while only 25% of McCain’s donation are $200 or less.
Its hurts knowing that your candidate has to rely upon big fat $20000 donations to the RNC.
That’s why poll numbers give you little comfort.
You know that over 2,500,000 people believed strongly enough Obama’s campaign to donate.
And that scare you.

Not like McCain who opts for every photo opportunity, even 911 in Pa. giving a speech where the downed airline landed. Both candidates agreed not to use 911 to further their campaign. It was agreed stop all ads and show together at the WTC. I guess that shows you what McCains word means

Money can not buy love. besides, with many people now feel the economic crunch, it is fairly interesting too see many people still have money to spare. Oh, right, it was the Hollywood bunch. $75,000 per person to attend a diner to admire Obama. The media is unwilling to talk about that.
McCain-Palin has a strong message out now: national security, fiscal conservative, fight corruption. They have proven records as reformers.
Where are Obama’s messages? — McCain is old, Palin is nobody. Not one that can convince people.
Obama’s true standing in polls is at least 5 points below what are reported because of the potential Bradley effects. He is losing for sure.

She campaigned on the trail for him a couple of times and held a fundraiser.
He appeared on her show twice (in 2005 & 2006) before he declared his intention to run for President.
“Is she a registered lobbist?”
No that would be the McCain campaign which is fully lobbyist staffed.

Make sure you are really registered to vote- it seems that many people assume they are but may not be up to date. The web has links to voter registration info for each state. Deadlines are coming soon in many states. If you have moved recently, make sure you are correctly registered.
Also, research I have been doing shows that the polls can be very misleading, sometimes purposely so, therefore we should not put too much faith in them. THe only poll that counts is the one on Nov 4!
Some polling companies have ties to a particular party and do not call as many members of the opposite party. Cell phone users are underrepresented. It’s even been said that the polls are manipulated so that when the actual votes are purposely miscounted or voters disenfranchised by many methods, the discrepancy will not be clear to the public. There is a lot of evidence that the vote in Ohio in 2004 was rigged and that Kerry should have won. This can happen again. However, the more people vote, the harder it will be for anyone to change the results by manipulating numbers in a few areas.
Another point- this election MUST BE ABOUT ISSUES! All the attempts to divert attention from the issues are really undemocratic and destructive. Let’s not vote without doing our homework! Personality does not make a good leader- either President or VP- many people who voted on that basis last time are regretting it, big time!

Obama never broke his word.
He said McCain had to stop the 527′s on the GOP side as Obama would do on the Dem side. McCain balked.
McCain on the other hand lied about public financing in the primaires.
He stated that he accepted public financing and used that as collateral for loans for his struggling campaign.
He later opted out.

Belle…here you are. Everything on the Anneberg Challenge. All you needed to do was google to get the REAL story:
At its founding, the Annenberg Challenge was made up of three constituent parts:
• The Chicago School Reform Collaborative, co-chaired by William C. Ayers;
• a Board of Directors initially recruited by the Collaborative, which was chaired from 1995 to 2000 by Barack Obama[4], at the time a practicing attorney.
• The Chicago Schools Research Consortium, a research arm of the Challenge.
Annenberg Challenge to Chicago) was a public-private partnership founded in 1995 to improve school performance by what it called “on the ground” investments in the form of professional development and technical assistance. Sponsored by the Annenberg Foundation, the CAC received a charter grant of $49.2 million in 1995.[1] The CAC
A key accomplishment of the reform movement was the passage in 1988 of a new state law that established local school councils in every school in Chicago as a competing center of power relative to the teachers union and the Chicago school administration.
The UIC says it now has legal authority to allow public access to the collection and made the records public starting Aug 26, 2008. No indescretion was found.

FACT
Non-partisan fact-check 95% of Americans will see a tax break under Barack Obama’s economic plan!
89% Will see a tax break between $1500-$5500
This doesn’t include the cheaper cost of Health care giveing people the choice to buy into the same health care that senators get. Or the governments commitment to provide $4000 credit toward higher education in exchange for giving back to your community through community service.

When campaign rhetoric meets reality.
First we have the kneejerk reaction of the McCain campaign.
“Asked on Thursday for McCain’s views, Rogers initially was noncommittal. He said in an e-mail that Transportation Secretary Mary Peters’ request “for an immediate federal bailout of $8 billion is just another example of how Washington is broken. … The federal transportation must be redirected towards the nation’s true needs and away from pork-barrel projects.”
Then when informed of what the bill actually entails:
“Subsequently, he said McCain “did not object to the bill because we need to keep improving our nation’s infrastructure. … President McCain will fight for a pork-free highway bill where money is spent on real priorities and not on wasteful or non-urgent projects.”
Ladies and gentleman, this is the McCain admin in a nutshell, initial reaction based solely on ideology regardless of the facts only to have the statement mitigated at a later time.
We already went thru this crap with Bush.

What a shock, yet another detail about Sarah Palin turns out to be a lie
arah Palin’s visit to Iraq in 2007 consisted of a brief stop at a border crossing between Iraq and Kuwait, the vice presidential candidate’s campaign said yesterday, in the second official revision of her only trip outside North America.
Following her selection last month as John McCain’s running mate, aides said Palin had traveled to Ireland, Germany, Kuwait, and Iraq to meet with members of the Alaska National Guard. During that trip she was said to have visited a “military outpost” inside Iraq. The campaign has since repeated that Palin’s foreign travel included an excursion into the Iraq battle zone.
But in response to queries about the details of her trip, campaign aides and National Guard officials in Alaska said by telephone yesterday that she did not venture beyond the Kuwait-Iraq border when she visited Khabari Alawazem Crossing, also known as “K-Crossing,” on July 25, 2007.

Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin stand accused Monday of trying to “lie” their way into the White House with discredited claims and advertising — and it’s not just outgunned Democrats crying foul.
Non-partisan fact-check operations, newspapers and opinion columnists are also charging McCain, once a darling of the press, of cloaking the election in sleaze and unfairly smearing Democrat Barack Obama.
ast week, the McCain campaign accused Obama of wanting to teach sex education in kindergarten. In reality, the bill he voted for as an Illinois lawmaker mandated warnings for young children about sexual predators.
Palin was accused of saying she visited Alaskan troops in Iraq when it emerged her trip was to an Iraq/Kuwaiti border post.
She is also taking heat for repeatedly saying she blocked a notorious multi-million dollar project to build a bridge to a sparsely-inhabited island in her state which she initially backed and of not fully returning all the federal dollars doled out for it.
“Generally those come out as outright lies, not just not incorrect,” said Larry Powell, a professor of communications of the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
The McCain camp is also now being accused in news reports of embellishing attendance figures at campaign rallies.
The Obama camp derided the volley of accusations as “disgusting lies” and questioned McCain’s honor.

Obama calls Mccain a warmonger and the MSM gives it wild coverage. Now why are Jake and the MSM silent on the fact that Obama is trying to scare the hell out of Americans with his economic-woe mongering?
It is a surprise, a big shame that it is Mccain and not the self-styled hope messenger that is spreading a positive message amidst concerns about the economy.
There is nothing basically wrong to assert that the fundamentals of our economy are strong. But as if sensing an opportunity to play politics as usual Obama and his cohorts are jumping all over this. Mike Allen writing for POLITICO states: “Appearing from Wall Street afterward, CNBC’s Erin Burnett said on an NBC News Special report that the morning’s market action had been reassuring: “While you may have a cancer in one limb of the body — if you think of the U.S. economy as the body — the entire body is not necessarily going to have cancer, too.”
Will the so-called messenger of hope stop playing politics as usual and discontinue being a fear monger?

“It is leaving a permanent stain on his reputation for integrity.”

Barack Obama privately tried to persuade Iraqi political leaders to stall an agreement on scaling back American troops in Iraq while publicly campaigning for a speedy withdrawal, The New York Post reported Monday.

Do you think that maybe the “main stream media” might want to report it?
Do you think that maybe 0bama might want to wait until when/if he is president to negotiate on behalf of the United States?

kinda hard to do the cry poverty thing with the economy while bragging about how many toilet flushing dollars Americans are putting into these campaigns. Really something wrong there….I’m sure countries around the world laugh at our process. If Obama could have agreed to 10 televised town halls and we all could see these candidates in a mixed, not hand picked audience….a couple of debates..make your decision…that’s it. But the horrible wasted campaign dollars flushed is sad. Especially spent on BO”s fake presidential seal, painting over the flag on his jet and spending $500,000 on his “O” symbols instead, paying the platinum selling German rock band Reamonn to give a free concert before his World Tour speech, now redoing all his posters/banners from old Change to new Change….and the list goes on and on with indulgent BO campaign $$$$$. What do his 300 advisors get paid?

It is very possible that Obama did what he did during Iraq because he was so confident that he would be the next president. So essentially he was telling the Ira PM that: don’t do anything now, wait until I am in office.
Obama’s ego is the real reason that has undone him and the democratic party.

In other campaigning news, Mrs Telepromter offered economic generalities.

According to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July, the paper reported.
“He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington,” Zebari told the Post.
Obama had argued that Congress should be involved in any negotiations to withdraw U.S. forces and that it was in everyone’s best interest to not have an agreement negotiated by the Bush administration because of its “state of weakness and political confusion.”

and now The Fall if the US Empire begins, caused by the last 8 years of a corrupt lying Bush government who deregulated banks a la’ En ron style, sinking the US financial institutions to that of the Great Depression.
FDR’s New Deal was unraveled 8 years ago with the help of John McCain’s supporter, Phil Grahm, and now the chickens have come home to roost.
So Russia has flown bombers to Venezuela with Long Range Missiles, hmmm.
China, Russia, Veneuzuela are allies, right?
We have borrowed huge amounts of money from places like China, Russia and the Saudis. And when we borrow their money, not only do we promise to pay them back, but we also agree to pay them interest on these loans. So, for the last eight years, our taxes have helped fund foreign governments through these interest payments. Our tax dollars have been going straight to places like China, Russia and the Saudis.
So since we are tapped out, how does Palin McCain Bush suppose we will borrow the money to fight a war with Russia that Palin proposes?
You people need to get your heads out your butt or you will be dead.

Mccain has FCC troubles :
Sen. John McCain claims he never met with broadcaster Lowell “Bud” Paxson, or his lobbyist Vicki Iseman, before writing two letters to the FCC on Paxson’s behalf.
Paxson says he met with McCain in 1999 and asked him to intercede with the FCC:
Paxson said he talked with McCain in his Washington office several weeks before the Arizona Republican wrote the letters in 1999 to the FCC urging a rapid decision on Paxson’s quest to acquire a Pittsburgh television station.
Paxson also recalled that his lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, likely attended the meeting in McCain’s office and that Iseman helped arrange the meeting. “Was Vicki there? Probably,” Paxson said in an interview with The Washington Post yesterday. “The woman was a professional. She was good. She could get us meetings.” [WaPo

NY Post:
Obama has given Iraqis the impression that he doesn’t want Iraq to appear anything like a success, let alone a victory, for America. The reason? He fears that the perception of US victory there might revive the Bush Doctrine of “pre-emptive” war – that is, removing a threat before it strikes at America.
From a commentator:
Gee, why am I not surprised that Obama would do something like this? Does it remind anyone of the NAFTA flap a few months ago? Tell the public one thing while in actuality doing something else. Isn’t the important thing bringing our troops home in a reasonable fashion and having a secure Iraq? Of course not, for the Democrats the point is scoring political points, even if it means using our troops as a political tool. The left loves to accuse the Bush administration of being a very closed, unethical administration. Yet are these signs that an Obama administration would be any better? He’s not even elected and he’s already making shady deals with Columbian rebels, Canadian diplomats and Iraqi political leaders. I’m sure glad change is coming to DC.

Bush years are taking us straight to hell. I am scared that we borrowed so much money from nations that are turning into our enemies that if we continue a corrupt, hypocritically run government that tries to go take over other nations based on lies and deceit, that our lenderers like Russia, China, etc are going to want their money back.
Wall Streets is looking like October 1929 leading to the Great Depression.
America needs a new face and a regime change, and it shouldn’t matter if the person is white, black, or green because all of us will suffer. These nations are becoming Super Powers off the backs of the American taxpayers who were not aware that their money would be used to help make nations that can overthrow us become richer than the US itself.
The world is laughing at us, looking at our hypocrisy, racism, corruption, greed, and our allies are becoming disgusted and our enemies are overjoyed.
If we throw this election to McCain who will employ the same crooks that made the United States of America broke, then we deserve our fate. We are going tp be taken down, yes..but by whom?
Russia??
China???
Venuzeula??
Another rich enemy that the US tends to make every day???
Who will take us out, and who ae we going to get the money from to fight them?

You know as well as I do that Obama continues to lead in the electoral college race. McCain has closed the gap in some states and shored up what should have been solid red states in the 1st place. But McCain needs all the Bush states + all the 7 swing states. Obama only needs to keep the Kerry states and win 1 of those 7.
McCain’s bigger bounce (and perception thereof) came from national polls and national tracking polls.

At this point, more and more newpapers are picking up this story. Because this information came from Iraq PM’s recent interview with NY POST, it appears very credible.
The only thing that the media can do to help Obama is to interview the PM again, and let him retract his words. For the public, this story is very credible, because I think it is very plausible that Obama could do such a thing — everything he does is for political gains. McCain once scolded Obama when he worked with Obama.
Obama’s entire political career rested upon his ability to work for political gains while ignoring principles and ethics — just read reports about Alice Palmer, Emil Jones.

An editorial with very few if any quotes from a writer who has shown to have lied repeatedly before is very credible to a right winger.

Ryan_C,
Actually, today the solid electoral count (discounting toss ups and leaning states) McCain is leading 227-207. That’s what I call a sustained bounce because. In fact Obama had a 217-216 lead just five days ago. One of the toss-up states is Ohio where McCain is streaking past Obama on a daily basis. It’s seeming less like a bounce and more like a sea change.

“We are all entitled to our own opinions but we are not entitled to our own facts.”
Exactly.
You claimed Obama was on the banking committee and had shirked his duties there.
You were wrong on several counts.
You then offered another “fact” which only appears in RNC new releases.
“Whether you like my sources or not, the statement made in Israel is correct.”
Out of context quotes from dubious sources are neither correct and nor are they facts.
Stop repeating right wing lies and you will suffer from less embrassment.

(CNN) – Responding to an Israeli reporter’s question Wednesday on his commitment to protect the Jewish state, Barack Obama pointed to a bill “we passed” in the U.S. Senate Banking Committee that tightens sanctions and authorizes divestment from Iran. “My committee,” he called it.
Except that he isn’t a member of the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs.
“Just this past week, we passed out of the out of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee – which is my committee – a bill to call for divestment from Iran as way of ratcheting up the pressure to ensure that they don’t obtain a nuclear weapon,” Obama said at a press conference in Sderot, Israel.

I believe McCain proved his love of this country when he sold it out!
The fact he voted for normal relations with Vietnam despite please not to from the familes of the 600 MIA’s still unaccounted for is of great worry.
The fact he wont release the records of his POW history is also of worry!
I myself hate how he milks his POW history many people where POWs that doesnt make them Presidential materiel.
I believe Barack loves this country and will lead it to better times. I believe he has the people best interest in mind.
Barack didn’t have a well connected father or mother like John McCain nor did he have a millionaire wife who’s father was well connected to help him get along as McCain did!
Barack came from a broken family and has built what seems like a loving family and made something of himself!
I feel he gets us!

I’m afraid the numbers don’t bear out your story. Traditionally less than 7 or 8 percent of Republicans vote Democratic and 10-12% of Dems vote Rep. It’s no secret and this year is no different. Dems always, always, always lose the cross-over vote. Check Gallup, Rasmussen, etc.

beebop,
I notice you cropped Obama’s response
An Obama spokesman tells CNN “it was his bill, not his committee,” referring to the Iran Sanctions Enabling Act that the Illinois senator sponsored and introduced in May 2007. The measure was then referred to the Banking Committee, and passed a vote of 19-2 on July 17.
Of course none of this changes the fact that you were WRONG when you claimed Obama had shirked his duty on the banking committee leading to the current banking mess. Or perhaps you were juts lying as opposed to innocently wrong.

Deb:
I believe that there are a lot of people who have lived the story that 0bama is peddling. But he isn’t one of them. His grand parents sent him to the most exclusive of private schools. He has gotten every where on the same basis as George W. Bush … HIS FATHER WENT THERE and that’s why he got in (ps Michelle’s brother went to Princeton and that’s why she got in). That’s not necessarily a bad thing either. I have friends who have riddent the coat tails of their parents and they are perfectly nice people, but they don’t claim to have done it on their own. If BHO was such a fabulous student, why does he hide his grades? There is a reason. He wasn’t.
He said he would vote aginst NAFTA and he didn’t. There is nothing that demonstrated who he was — a typical politician — more than that. Again. If what you are running on is a RECORD as a typical politician (read years and years of experience), all well and good. But that’s not what he is running on.
He’s running on his story. Which is inauthentic (me being kind). He is running on hope and change. And he’s a typical politician who hasn’t been in any one job long enough to break in his shoes. He’s inexperienced. He’s not bright. And he’s surrounded himself with dangerous thinkers.
Sorry.

Ryan_C,
I stand corrected on the leaning states, thanks for pointing that out. However, did you notice that many of the toss up states like Michigan and Wisconsin have fairly old data like 9/10 or 9/11 as the most recent. And New Mexico has one spurious poll that tilts the average in Obama’s favor. States that have newer information as of 9/13-9/15 go McCain’s way.
My point is we’re seeing more than a traditional one week post-convention bounce. Obama knows it and Democrats on in Congress know it, especially the newbies in traditional Republican districts. They’re already distancing themselves from Obama.
Posted by: Woody | September 15, 2008, 3:16 pm 3:16 pm

But the idea that active Republicans will be voting for Obama in droves is pure fantasy. He’s even farther to the left than Kerry was. It doesn’t pass the smell test.
I will say however that the Democrats’ best chance for victory will be with turnout. Not since Kennedy have young voters actually turned out in numbers such that they made an impact. We shall see.

Beebop McCain’s bill, cosponsored with Senator Ted Kennedy, would have given illegal immigrants a chance to reenter the country and become citizens, among other reforms. It was the path to citizenship that a lot of people opposed and led to its defeat. Unfortunately McCain is now saying he is against it. As someone who is from a border state like you are, surely he knows the idea of deporting people just because they came here to finds jobs is not workable as a solution.

WASHINGTON – Top current advisers to Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign last year lobbied for a European plane maker that beat Boeing to a $35 billion Air Force tanker contract, taking sides in a bidding fight that McCain has tried to referee for more than five years.
Two of the advisers gave up their lobbying work when they joined McCain’s campaign. A third, former Texas Rep. Tom Loeffler, lobbied for the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. while serving as McCain’s national finance chairman.
EADS is the parent company of Airbus, which teamed up with U.S.-based Northrop Grumman Corp. to win the lucrative aerial refueling contract on Feb. 29. Boeing Co. Chairman and CEO Jim McNerney said in a statement Monday that the Chicago-based aerospace company “found serious flaws in the process that we believe warrant appeal.”

Biden is also a long-time member and current chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. In 1997, he became the ranking minority member and chaired the committee from June 2001 through 2003. When Democrats re-took control of the Senate following the 2006 elections, Biden again assumed the top spot on the committee in 2007. His efforts to combat hostilities in the Balkans in the 1990s brought national attention and influenced presidential policy: traveling repeatedly to the region, he made one meeting famous by calling Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic a “war criminal.” He consistently argued for lifting the arms embargo, training Bosnian Muslims, investigating war crimes and administering NATO air strikes. Biden’s subsequent “lift and strike” resolution was instrumental in convincing President Bill Clinton to use military force in the face of systemic human rights violations.[52] Biden has also called on Libya to release political prisoner Fathi Eljahmi.[53]

He talked about rewarding Colombia for its fight against drugs. My nieces are from Guatemala. We love them very much. But little girls left in Guatemala need to have greater opportunities in their own country for fresh, clean water, education, micro lending, etc. We need to work with Mexico, Colombia and all of our other trade partners to bring up their standard of living so that they have a reason to remain in their country and not flee to ours.
The one thing that I did like is punishing the companies that hire undocumented workers. Gramm’s legislation, written with the help of financial industry lobbyists, essentially removed newfangled financial products called swaps from any regulation. Credit default swaps are basically insurance policies that cover the losses on investments, and they have been at the heart of the subprime meltdown because they have enabled large financial institutions to turn risky loans into risky securities that could be packaged and sold to other institutions.

Obama is sounding like a regular pol these days. the only “real change” I’ve seen, other than his stance on issues every other day. He should change his motto to:
Real Change You Can Count On! Everyday other Day.
Lets see how long it takes to change his VP selection? If he dont, hes doomed. If he does, hes doomed.

FactOid, I could’ve said that the keypunch operator gave McCain $10 and if a CEO gave the max to Obama it would be a different matter. That doesn’t make my facts incorrect nor yours any less misleading. Employees give. Employers do not. Lehman Brothers did not give any money to McCain or Obama. It’s former employees in our fundamentally sound economy did.

We know its from the staff.
But we know its also from the CEOs which are part of the staff.
From the New York Times:
Since 2003, executives and employees of Exelon, which is based in Illinois, have contributed at least $227,000 to Mr. Obama’s campaigns for the United States Senate and for president. Two top Exelon officials, Frank M. Clark, executive vice president, and John W. Rogers Jr., a director, are among his largest fund-raisers.
Another Obama donor, John W. Rowe, chairman of Exelon, is also chairman of the Nuclear Energy Institute, the nuclear power industry’s lobbying group, based in Washington. Exelon’s support for Mr. Obama far exceeds its support for any other presidential candidate.
How odd is it that Obama changed his language on a controversial bill he introduced against this very company?

Ryan_C,
“I’ve got a bridge to sell you in Alaska” – you mean that bridge that Obama and Biden voted for? Where’s the change? Running on a theme of change is never a good one when you have a demonstrable record of going along to get along. Yes, McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time which means he bucked his party leader at least 10% of the time. Has Obama? Not even close. He’s a strict party-vote kinda guy. Since 2005 McCain has a much more impressive record of working with Democrats. Around 55% of McCain’s bill are cosponsored by Democrats; Obama, 15% And we’re talking substantive bills regarding campaign finance reform, global warming, etc., not commemorating Avocado Day or something like that. Where’s the change?
I find it quaint that Obama is now claiming “turn the page” as his own. It’s another cliche! No one owns it! What would Bob Seger have to say about that?

McCain’s campaign is run by lobbyists and they are writing his policies.
Let me repeat that:
LOBBYISTS FOR SPECIAL INTERESTS ARE RUNNING MCCAIN’S CAMPAIGN AND WRITING HIS POLICIES
It’s time to wake up, America.
Obama does not have lobbyists in his campaign. Lobbyists and Karl Rove acolytes are in complete control of McCain’s campaign and they will control his presidency if he is elected.

“Yes, McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time which means he bucked his party leader at least 10% of the time. Has Obama? Not even close. He’s a strict party-vote kinda guy”

The fundamentals are strong. Its the politicians, both sides by the way, that have jacked it up. Look, certain things do need to be regulated. Giving 125% loans is not such a good idea. Interest only loans, not so smart. Allows people to gamble that property will appreciate and when it didn’t the banks get left holding the bag. Then the taxpayers bail out the banks, so the taxpayers get left holding the bag. In the mean time, the staff at all those banks appear to be donating large amounts of cash to not McCain, but OBAMA. What a mess. Welfare wont fix anything. You can not tax a society into prosperity. People and corporations have got to be held resposible for their actions. That includes shareholders. An IRA invested in the stck market is a gamble. Dont cry if you lose. Im sick of that bs. If you let somebody else mange your money, your begging for a letdown. Especially politicians. 40% or 33% dont pay taxes? I think that is BS but ok. I paid over 40k in taxes last year. I have done well because I busted my a$$,and I dont mind helping keep the neighborhood up, educating my neighbors five kids, and feeding a homeless guy. But giving somebody $2500 for nothing but an I want your vote thank you very much is sinister. That is Peter Pan my friends. ANd dont think it is going to work. Business will have to raise prices on everything to compensate, or go out of business, or move more jobs over seas.

Not quite the truth:
“Obama: ‘I Fault The McCain/Bush Economic Philosophy’”
____________
Actually, it was the Democrats who fluffed up the dream of a house for every car…. and no money down for your erstwhile unreachable castle in the sky.
That was begun in the Clinton years when money came easy and the housing market sang with the number of sales made possible with the low–or no money down.
People who could not even afford a garage wound up with high mortgages, and the term “house poor” got new meaning.
And for the last several years, we’ve been paying for the folly of following our dreams based on no money down.
The fault is with the lenders and the buyers and the brokers….. Government really had little to do with it, except get our hopes up in the Clinton years.
So Obama can fault whoever he wants…. it helps his cause.
But it ain’t necessarily so!

An Obama aide accused Taheri of confusing the Status of Forces agreement with a Strategic Framework Agreement, for which Obama has pushed for congressional review.
“This article bears as much resemblance to the truth as a McCain campaign commercial. Barack Obama has consistently called for any Strategic Framework Agreement to be submitted to the U.S. Congress so that the American people have the same opportunity for review as the Iraqi Parliament,” said Obama spokeswoman Wendy Morigi. “Unlike John McCain, he supports a clear timetable to redeploy our troops that has the support of the Iraqi government. So as our financial crisis worsens, McCain debates exactly what to call it.
ORLANDO, Fla. — Speaking before a group of about 500 mostly Hispanic voters at the Asociacin Borinquea de Florida Central today, McCain said that the “American worker” is being “threatened today because of the greed and corruption that some engaged in [on] Wall Street.”
Responding to criticism over his comment from earlier in the day that the “fundamentals of our economy are strong,” this afternoon McCain defined those fundamentals.
“My opponents may disagree, but those fundamentals, the American worker and their innovation, their entrepreneurship, the small business, those are the fundamentals of America and I think they’re strong,” McCain said.
Today’s clarification however, adds to a somewhat muddled message coming from McCain on the state of the economy. At last week’s forum on national service, McCain said, “our economy is broken,” but today he seemed to imply that it’s not broken yet.
This afternoon McCain said, “our economy is at risk today,” and specifically “the fundamentals of our economy are at risk.” Based on his earlier definition of “the fundamentals,” McCain asserted that “the American worker and their innovation” are at risk due to lack of sufficient regulation.
This man is clueless about the economy.

eyes wide open,
Why is it every right winger suffer amnesia for the last 8 years but suddenly KNOWS that this mess started during the Clinton years.
Let’s take a look at Bush’s Home Ownership Society. ++
# Expanding Homeownership. The President believes that homeownership is the cornerstone of America’s vibrant communities and benefits individual families by building stability and long-term financial security. In June 2002, President Bush issued America’s Homeownership Challenge to the real estate and mortgage finance industries to encourage them to join the effort to close the gap that exists between the homeownership rates of minorities and non-minorities. The President also announced the goal of increasing the number of minority homeowners by at least 5.5 million families before the end of the decade. Under his leadership, the overall U.S. homeownership rate in the second quarter of 2004 was at an all time high of 69.2 percent. Minority homeownership set a new record of 51 percent in the second quarter, up 0.2 percentage point from the first quarter and up 2.1 percentage points from a year ago. President Bush’s initiative to dismantle the barriers to homeownership includes:
* American Dream Downpayment Initiative, which provides down payment assistance to approximately 40,000 low-income families;
* Affordable Housing. The President has proposed the Single-Family Affordable Housing Tax Credit, which would increase the supply of affordable homes;
* Helping Families Help Themselves. The President has proposed increasing support for the Self-Help Homeownership Opportunities Program; and
* Simplifying Homebuying and Increasing Education. The President and HUD want to empower homebuyers by simplifying the home buying process so consumers can better understand and benefit from cost savings. The President also wants to expand financial education efforts so that families can understand what they need to do to become homeowners.

So the government will be able to provide us with all these extras…. even though it will be taking in less money.
Or will the rich, many of whom provide our jobs and essential, be more heavily taxed so that in order to provide these goodies, will be required to lower their benefits and up their prices so that, in the end, you’ll be paying more (just not to the government) and not really receiving more!
As this plan unfolds, we need to be reminded that to tax big business heavily is to take away “INCENTIVE” and unless you want to segue into communism, that’s NOT what you really want to do!

Ryan_C,
Here’s a news flash for you – no one running for office is a change agent. Palin’s dirty, Obama’s dirty, McCain and Biden. They all wink and nod to get each other’s earmarks through and every governor in the union says “thank you”. None of that will change in the next four years no matter who wins. Surely you know that. If you’re so outraged by this practice then please email your Congressional delegation and demand they cease and decist with all earmark requests.
Regarding the Washington Times, facts are facts regardless of where they are drawn from and can be corroborated. As usual when someone doesn’t like the message they attack the messenger. Let the record show that Obama is clearly a party-line guy and always has been at all levels of government. Over the last four years McCain has co-sponsored more bills with Democrats than Republicans much to the consternation of his own party’s leadership, hence the “Maverick” reputation. It’s verifiable, go look it up.

This is the problem when you argue from a strawman perspective.
I am not against earmarks.
I think the Obama-Coburn solution of sunshine vs bans work better in the long run.
What I do see as a problem is Palin’s repeated (even after she’s been factchecked) lying on the stump regarding the bridge to nowhere. Its the disregard for the truth by the McCain campaign that is the most disturbing including McCain bizarrely insisting Palin had not requested any earmarks.
Its the fundamental dishonesty of his whole campaign message, not earmarks.
Facts are facts but analysis can certainly be biased.
That hurts you alot more than me because you tend to rely on biased right wing sources that delight in fudging numbers and just all around dishonesty.
Over and over again right wingers wonder when the msm is going to cover something based on what the right wing media tells them.

for me it’s gop numbers never add up, which with most americans having a hard time balancing a checkbook or saving, it probably doesn’t matter until it does, then we overreact sideways.
we’ve a 1 trillion hole right now after 2 tax cuts during 2 wars all borrowed with interest from china. mccain wants to double-down on the tax cuts so we’ve anothe… Read Morer 3.3 trillion piled on. and so far he’s found 17 billion of earmarks to cut.
nobody will be able to escape the basic arithmetic. folks can dogmatically assert that tax cuts solve all economic problems big or small but the evidence say otherwise. in 7 years wages have fallen net inflation. that’s never happened before.
lop-sided tax cuts for rich spurred markets/investments that flow overseas for best returns as rich don’t spend (thus rich). and now we’ve a gluttony of financial and credit assets going through a firesale w/ prices tanking. and consumer demand, 2/3 of economic activity, has dried up w/ no wage growth or bubble credit left.

What she is being attacked for is her lying about her position on earmarks.
She said “I told Congress thanks but no thanks on the Bridge to nowhere, that if Alaska wanted a bridge we would build it ourselves”
The problem is
a) She supported the bridge right up until it becamse politically unfeasible.
b) Alaska keep the money intended for the bridge.
c) Alaska when left to its onw devices to build the bridge promptly canceled the bridge.
Palin continues to lie about this every stump speech.

from associated press obama and mccain have big economic differences:
Under Obama, the wealthiest 1 percent of taxpayers, those making roughly $600,000 or more, would see their taxes go up on average by $93,709 in 2009, according to an analysis done by the Tax Policy Center, because Obama would begin implementing his tax changes even before the scheduled expiration of the Bush cuts.
Under McCain, those same taxpayers would see an average reduction of $48,860, reflecting in part additional cuts he is proposing.
By contrast, the bottom 20 percent of taxpayers, those with taxable income of roughly $19,000 per year or less, would see their taxes cut by an average of $567 under Obama’s program and $21 under McCain’s plan, the tax center estimates.
For the 20 percent of taxpayers right in the middle of the income scale, making roughly between $37,600 and $66,400, the tax break would be $1,118 under the Obama plan and $325 under the McCain plan in 2009, according to the analysis done by the tax center, a joint venture of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution, two Washington think tanks.

Ryan_C,
No, I rely on many sources for facts and formulate my own analysis. I agree that Palin is lying about requesting funds for the bridge to nowhere. It’s indefensible. But how is it any better or worse than the $750 million in earmarks that Obama procured for Illinois over the past four years? It’s all pork. You seem to intelligent to believe otherwise.
All politicians lie and then lie about not lying. For example, originally Obama claimed he hardly knew Bill Ayers, then he worked with him for 6 years organizing the community, and then Obama told O’Reilly that Ayers was “a guy in my neighborhood.” Really, that’s all? I won’t go through the litany of lies on both sides, they’re well documented. If you want to get high and mighty and say they lie on the right worse than they lie on the left then knock yourself out. In the end people make their decision not on who they’re most comfortable with but who they’re least comfortable with.
When McCain’s slime machine gets cranked up and introduces Obama’s associates to America in painful detail it won’t matter what Obama says or how much money he raises. Step 1: expose Obama as just another politician, not “new politics hope and change” agent. Check. Step 2: convince America he is too radical. Ongoing. I’m not saying it’s right or admirable but that’s what’s coming down the line.

“McCain’s slime machine gets cranked up and introduces Oama’s associates to America and in painful detail . . .”
Obama had plenty of scrutiny on Ayers during and after the primaries. It would be nothing new, like the Keating 5.

I guess Obama is using some of those campaign dollars to make some new banners, COUNTRY FIRST (McCain’s slogan). He was miffed that McCain and Palin are using the Change mantra, as they are really change….Biden will really be the POTUS, and he IS politics as usual…Obama is just poster boy….script reader with loud yelling delivery. He is a fraud…lacking in experience and judgement.

Which is ancient and from which McCain emerged clean as a new born babe…. as opposed to a couple or three Democrats!

kat,
Obama’s past is still very much a mystery to much of the country. He was pretty much given a pass by the MSM during the primary season and the other Democratic candidates certainly couldn’t stir the pot too much against one of their own lest he win the nomination.
Many people, in particular registered independents, don’t even start paying attention to the election until after the convention. Those people know little to nothing about Ayers, Wright, Uncle Frank Marshall Davis, Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals and how its language subtlely finds its way into some of Obama’s speeches. The subject of Obama’s mentoring in his years when he was forming his political philosophy is absolutely fair game. Change is certainly coming to this election.

Doesn’t anyone have concern about the massive millions of dollars the Obama campaign is spending. They brag about the fund raising amounts but they sure don’t report how much of that money is going out the door. In twelve months of campaigning the Obama team has spent more than $200 million and continues to spend more. His glamorous Hollywood style acceptance ceremony cost more than $5 million.
In all this time and massive spending Obama still only receives a 41% rating that he is the person to be president. Talk about “same old politics”, spend, spend, spend that’s all he has done for a year.
Take a look at the recent unemployment figures. Obama’s state of Illinois is in the top 5 for the highest unemployment rate. What has Senator Obama done to help his state create jobs?
American voters it’s time to step back and take a good look beyond the glitz, glamour and feel good speeches and look at this man’s qualities to lead a country. What has he done in his political career to advance the quality of life for the citizens of his state and country? If your vote is in favor of Obama in the White House I hope in two years you remember how he got there and who put him there.

“They brag about the fund raising amounts but they sure don’t report how much of that money is going out the door.”
FEC reports include all expenditures as well as donations.
“In twelve months of campaigning the Obama team has spent more than $200 million and continues to spend more.”
Actually the number is over $325M with about $400M taken in.
“His glamorous Hollywood style acceptance ceremony cost more than $5 million.”
The RNC convention in 2004 cost $150 million.

“I agree that Palin is lying about requesting funds for the bridge to nowhere. It’s indefensible. But how is it any better or worse than the $750 million in earmarks that Obama procured for Illinois over the past four years? It’s all pork. You seem to intelligent to believe otherwise.”
Because Obama did not lie about his earmarks. That is the difference.
In fact Obama disclosed every earmark he requested during his campaign and has made earmark transparency HIS issue during his time in the US Senate. Obama is not against earmarks. He is against wasteful earmarks and he feels transparency(coupled with public outcry) will make it hard for wasteful earmarks to survive.
It’s not as if I think politicians are honest or Obama is singularly ethical.
I am voting based on issue positions (some ideological, some philosophical) as I am sure you are.
But the comfort with outright lies shown by the McCain campaign should give anyone pause who is tired of Rove politics.
I know you don’t excuse that or endorse it and your vote for McCain will be based on the issues because you think he’s the better candidate.
But it doesn’t make it right.
And when we fail to speak up against such things, we all implicitly condone it.

I do!
There are food pantries going empty.
There are bills unable to be paid.
You would think “the Messiah” would share some of his manna with the needy…. donate some of it to worthy causes instead of using it all to show off Obama’s ego and his ears.
But all charity will get from it will be video clips filled with “words … just more of the same vindictive words”….. Nothing to warm the cockles of an empty stomach, or soothe the depression that comes from missing a payment on your mortgage.
I think there should definitely be a ceiling on how much money one can spend on ANY political campaigns!
Obviously, it would take more to run form president than it would for mayor… but Obama must have spent almost 100,000 Million dollars… and he’s still not winning!
Granted, you can’t tell his followers what to do with their money….. but to me, continuing to spend this surplus of
monetary adoration on advertising when people are going hungry is beyond going from the sublime to the ridiculous.
It has passed foolish a long time ago, and now borders on the pathetic!

This is hilarious now right wingers are upset that Obama is spending money his supporters donated vs the $150 million McCain blew in the primaries and now the $85 million in TAXPAYER money he will spend in the general.

I love the way Palin supporters, when confronted with the fact that their candidate was as deep into earmarks as any other politican, immediately try to change the subject to “well, Obama does it too”. Come on! I thought that was what made Palin so gosh-darned great – hat she took on the establishment in her own party, said no to earmarks and said thanks but no thanks to the Bridge to Nowhere.
Now we find out her snout was in the trough as deep as anyone, and she actually said “Thanks” for the bridge until the very end when it was going to be killed by congress anyway. So what the republicans are left with is someone who ISN’T particularly anti-establishment, and ISN’T really a reformer or an agent of change. So then when we look at the rest of her so-called accomplishments we see that she derives her vast foreign policy experience from seeing Russia from her window and refueling her plane in Ireland on her way to Kuwait.
But OK, Obama did it too. Snappy comeback, completely missing the point.
