Obama Shrugs Off GOP Convention Attacks: ‘I’ve Been Called Worse Names on the Basketball Court’
"What did you guys expect?’ asked Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., when a reporter asked him if he would change his strategy and attack his Republican opponents more, now that they’re full-throatedly attacking him.
"Right?" Obama continued. "I mean, I anticipated this last Thursday in my acceptance speech. This is what they do. They don’t have an agenda to run on. They haven’t offered a single concrete idea, so far in two nights, about how they would make the lives of middle-class Americans better. They’ve spent the entire two nights attacking me or extolling John McCain’s biography, which is fine. They can use their convention time any way they want, but you can’t expect that I’d be surprised about attacks from Republicans. And by the way, you know, I’ve been called worse on the basketball court. It’s not that big of a deal."
Asked what he’s been called on the basketball court, Obama said — as he was getting on his bus — "you’d have to bleep it out."

Oh yes, when the Republicans say things they are “attacking” him. When he says things about others than he is not attacking them? The double standards just keep continuing on and on and on. He’s a joke!

Obama shrugs off attacks.
McCain gets snippy and hides when dealing with any criticism.
Recent examples include the houses gaffe when he did not interview until last night on ABC and then juist this week canceling Larry King because Tucker Bounds made a ridiculous claim and got called on it.
One is Presidential, the other does not have the temperment.

Ashely Biden, son of Joe, was just arrested for obstructing an officer? Will the media be fair and balanced and report on this with the zeal and venom they reported on Palin’s daughter or husband? And will Joe’s son, attorney general, try to use his abuse of power to fix this? Come on MSM, please do the right thing.

But Obama spent three years cleaning up asbestos in Chicago slum housing. That is a WEALTH of community service experience and he is black and eloquent. Lets vote for him. Change, what is it? Who cares? It sounds good when he says it. Yum, I love this kool aid (burp)

Thank you Sarah for driving Obama supporters to give $10m in 24 hrs to him. I think it took the right-wingers 3 days to come up with $10m after she was announced as VP. Yes Sarah, keep attacking Obama in your shrill voice and we will keep gaining. By the way, those 37m who watched you last night, majority were the ppl who watched Obama speak and they hated you. Now I’m looking forward to seeing poll nums from later this week.

Samantha, here’s an idea: David Axelrod is Obama’s puppetmaster and Hazel Johnson did the bulk of the asbestos work, so let’s get rid of Obama/Biden and launch an Axelrod/Johnson ticket. We’ll get the authentic smooth talker and community organizor!

“We don’t have a ‘present’ button as governor – we are expected to lead, we are expected to take action and not just vote ‘present,’” said Palin, who is in her first term as Alaska’s governor. “So there’s a big difference, of course, between the executive and legislative branches and our experience.”
Let’s hear how “Commander” Palin handles the AKNG
e recent decision to deploy a C-17 cargo plane from the Alaska Air National Guard to Louisiana to assist during the Hurricane Gustav response was an occasion in which Campbell briefed the governor’s office and sought its approval, he said. Chief of Staff Mike Nizich signed off on it.
Glad to see Palin is making the ke decisions

Sarah Palin has just killed McCain’s chances in a way DUMB DUMB REPUBS dont get. “They just don’t get it”. Yes Sarah is a great READER. When Sarah Palin becomes the star, McCain looks like a loser. She will outshine McCain, Repubs will look at her like a leader and not him. McCain’s ego will kick in along with his temper. And you know the rest from there.

Palin believes our soldiers are in Iraq doing “God’s will” – is that the same reason the Taliban & Al’Queida fight as well? What makes us better?
Palin believes against abortion even in extreme cases like rape and incest.
That is enough for me to make my choice, going the other direction by far.

Being called names is not bad since it reflects more on the caller. Being pegged squarely and accurately is different.
SP placed Big O exactly where he is: a duplicitous politician who one the one hand claim to work for the working class and on the other hand dissing them when necessary to get big bucks from the elite.
Posted by: Obama-Yah-Wright | September 4, 2008, 5:08 pm 5:08 pm
On the community organizer criticism: “They [Republicans] haven’t talked about the fact that I was a civil rights lawyer; they haven’t talked about the fact that I taught constitutional law; they haven’t talked about my work in the state legislature, in the United States Senate,” he said. “They’re talking about the three years of work that I did right out of college as if that’s– I’m making the leap from two or three years out of college into the presidency.”
Obama added though that his work as a community organizer was relevant to who he is and the kind of people he’s “fighting for.”
“Why would that kind of work be ridiculous?” Obama said. “Who are they fighting for? What are they advocating for? They think that the lives of those folks who are struggling each and every day, that working with them to try to improve their lives is somehow not relevant to the presidency? I think maybe that’s the problem — that’s part of why they’re out of touch and they don’t get it ’cause they haven’t spent much time working on behalf of those folks.”
Posted by: Ryan C | September 4, 2008, 5:09 pm 5:09 pm

The Alaska Post or something said the Dems and Reps love her in Alaska. On C SPAN, a caller (Dem) said Sarah listens to the people. The reason she abandoned the bridge she was for, was because the people asked her to; so she did. Hmmmm. Sounds good so far. I’m still tuned, but not to BO’s scoops that have proven to be weak so far.
Posted by: irma | September 4, 2008, 5:10 pm 5:10 pm
I find her nomination so absurd as to be laughable, yet horrifying in its reality. But many people seem to really like her candidacy, which is even more disturbing.
So she can give a rousing speech, which she’s practiced non-stop for 48 hours, which was the product of the best writing the entire McCain strategy team has to offer. So what?? Any Hollywood starlet can do that. So all you have to do to qualify for the #2 spot now is give a rousing speech? Give me a break!
She is, as many people say, representative of small-town USA. She’s your average PTA mom in many ways. So…does that mean you feel like every mom on your local PTA is qualified to be Vice President of United States?? I am stunned when people say they want an average person to lead this country…personally, I want someone a little BETTER than average! I mean, the US is only one of the most powerful and aggressive nations in the world; we only consume 25% of all the earth’s natural resources; we’re only one of the largest economies in the global market…and a good portion of this country thinks a PTA mom is qualified to oversee all that if McCain kicks the bucket?? Wonderful…. (not to mention if she gets pregnant again while in office…she’s obviously still in the Dark Ages when it comes to family planning…I just wish she stuck with the “barefoot in the kitchen” part of it!)
Sarah Palin is completely unqualified to be Vice President. Her radical, naive, parochial beliefs are downright frightening to any semi-educated or forward-thinking individual. She has NO foreign policy experience whatsoever, and a long history of corruption, deal-making, and narrow-minded crony politics. Not to mention she has a penchant for creationism and banning books!! The instant McCain gets elected (a big IF at this point) she loses all value to him except as eye candy–until he croaks and she’s left holding the nuclear codes! And I thought I was scared when the village idiot took office…at this point I’d rather keep him than give her the reins!
I truly don’t know if she’s helped or hurt his ticket, given the American public these days. Any moderately intelligent, progressive thinker should be horrified at the idea of her getting anywhere near Washington, but the voters of this country have shown an almost rabid horror of intelligent, experienced leadership in the last few decades, so I really don’t know. I don’t know what’s happening to this country, period.

It is ironic how an obscure lady like Palin could call Obama inexperience. The lady left her town in debt; she is a junior governor still, she is already a champion in flipflop and lies (position on bridge to nowhere, and many other issues), and she is under investigation, and you talk about “great pick”? Everybody is calling MCains a heros; did he rescue one single soldier in Vietnam? Did he command a single brigade? Anybody can decide to resist when in captivity, but that doesn’t prepare you to be president of US. Stop this fairy tale and give me a break!!!
Posted by: Fyd | September 4, 2008, 5:10 pm 5:10 pm

Just stop it. We are better than this! You may not agree with Obama – and that is your right – but he has been out there, talking to people, telling people what he think and wants to do and letting us judge him. He deserved our respect for giving us a fair opportunity to make an informed decision.
Make up your minds in whatever way makes the most sens to you and then give other people the dignity of respecting their decisions – even if they are not the same as yours.
This election is about our future. Our country. Our children. The name-calling, taunting, sarcastic, high school behavior is embarassing.
Hope not hate.

Barack does not like be “called out” on his speeches, policies, arrogance, lack of experience, allegiance to anti-American preachers, activists, etc, etc. etc. He is not used people mocking him for good reason. He IS used to the MSM kissing his butt all through the Democratic nomination process and so far, falling at his feet [esp. by MSNBC commentators] during the general election campaign. Just because he says the criticism does not bother him, that he simply shrugs it off, does not mean it doesnt. It also does not mean the many of the criticisms are not valid points. I’d have more respect for him if he defended himself, rather than just “laughing it off” with lame lines about being called worse names on the basketball court. Palin was not “calling you names” last night Barack, she was pointing out simple truths.

Well there were a number of lies and since FACTS don’t get in the way for a Repubs speech being good or not . There were many falsehoods but one of the worst was when talking about fighting Washington insider politics and esp. the bridge to nowhere well McCain’s campaign is staffed by some 75 % lobbyist esp. those at the top of his campaign. Oh and the money for the bridge to nowhere Alaska got it they just didn’t build the bridge they built all the roads going up to where it will begin and as gov. she did a speech to help get this money and said Washington thinks your nowhere well I don’t and she hired lobby firms to lobby for the money. But she’s an outsider YEAH RIGHT and Rush Limbaugh is a Liberal !!! and it was a Canadian firm she gave the contract to, to build this gas pipeline but their slogan is country first then find an American co. to do the pipeline and saying we need to use American resources the drill here drill now mindset well we used our best resource our brave men and women to fight in Iraq and the Bush admin lets China walk in and get contracts that American firms should have got to develop oil fields in IRAQ fields that will produce and low estimate of 125,000 barrels of oil a week within 3 yrs maybe sooner but BUSH/ McCain and the rest let CHINA our biggest worry for our country out there come in after OUR men and women clear the way with their blood and lives and TAKE a contract to get the oil out of IRAQ right under our noses and our men and women will probably be the ones protecting China’s people in the fields and their equipment and the oil being shipped out and their tankers in the straights with our navy !!! yeah that’s the Kind of leadership we need one last thing She also said that it is their responsibility to leave the country better then it was when they took office !! REALLY well then are your better off NOW then when Bush, who McCain voted with 90% of the time are you better of NOW then when W took over and was rubber stamped by McCain and the rest of the GOP for 7 yrs ? Whats funny too is I did not hear her brag about wanting to ban books at the library in the town she was mayor and when the librarian didn’t she fired her or wanting to teach Creationism in public schools hell the list goes on and NOW her church shut down its website what are they hiding what has she said there what could be worse then what has already come out of there the tape of her saying
“We are doing GODS work in Iraq” and ” We are following GODS PLAN in Iraq ” they take down her soon to be son lin laws My space and twitter page what is so scary there ?

Irma, vote however you want.
No one is bullying you to vote for Obama. It kills me that some of Hillary supporters blame Obama for every single thing that went wrong in her campaign.
It was her campaign, and she started off slow. It happens get over it.
People like you make it seem as if she was perfect, she made plenty of mistakes and instead of you holding her accountable for her slow start. You blame and hate him. He had nothing to do with how the media treated her. Blame the media, hey stop watching the news and visiting sites such as this one.
It was not Obama’s responsibility to defend Hillary on the way she was treated by the media. It was her’s since she decided to run for office. She put herself in that situation. I didnt see her defending Obama when they attack Michelle. or when the Reverend Wright snippets were shown over and over, and over again.
Remember this isnt about him. This is about good hardworking americans who have suffered 8 years under Bush and the Republicans. This is about the future of our children. This is about ending a war that Obama told us was a mistake from the get go, and trying to prevent us from getting into another war.

Why is it that the Democrats seem to forget about Congress when referring to the current economic crisis.
As I recall, both houses of Congress have been in the hands of the Democrats for about two years now.
The do-nothing Democrats like Pelosi, Reid, Biden, Kennedy, and Obama have done nothing that has helped.
Instead, they occupy seats, point the finger of blame, and vote “present” to protect their political careers.
When Democrats rightfully blame George W. Bush, they should also blame the Democrat controlled Congress for two years of walking in place.
By the way, does anyone remember what the price of gasoline was when Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid became majority leaders?
Give credit where credit is due.

Poor Poor Irma. Your pathetic. There were times in the campaign that Hillary did come across as whiney, there were also times that she told flat out lies. There was a time that she cried before the election. There were plenty of times that she used the sex card to her advantage. But you dont see any of that. No not you. All you see is how people treated Clinton.
Obama didnt need to throw race into the campaign. It was already there. I mean this great country was built on the backs of slaves and there free labor
A black man running for POTUS playing the race card doesnt really get him much sympathy from white voters. Remember the majority of you tell blacks to get over slavery. Let it go, It was in the past. Yet we dont feel the need to apoligize about it. Like every other major country who owned slaves have.
And remember despite what Bill says, he was the one that injected race into this campaign. I’m sure he didnt mean to, But he did.
Again vote how you choose, your just hurting yourself, and your family, and dogs and cats.

Ras & Gallup daily tracking for the same time period have held steady at 4 pts and 7 pt leads for Obama.
That looks like an outlier for now (certainly could change).

Get your facts straight. It was Palin who first used that word to describe Hillary. You McCain/Palin morons are clearly feeling the heat because of the backlash that is occurring!

I think what is most telling is that they’re hiding her from interviews. She can read but she can’t talk?

Man these polls dont mean jack squat. they dont even poll African americans or young voters.
And we will come out on November 4th in full force to support Obama. Why cause the Republicans dont give a darn about our vote. We have registered to vote in numbers never seen by either party, and speaking of polls, since they carry so much weight. I just saw one that said the independent voters, ya know the ones who once considered McCain such a great man, were really turned off at the tactics used aganist Obama in these last two days of the convention.
You see, they realize that this is not the high school prom were you vote based on popularity, They are more concerned about the issues. And the Republicans dont care to talk about those.

Some would call that blasphemy.
Others would call it heresy.
Sounds like Obamaspeak to me.

Well Roxanne thats there motto. Women are to be seen not heard, unless they are being used as an attack dog. It says so in the bible, right next to where it says The Iraq war is God’s will. VP Palin told that to a bunch of graduating seniors.
She’s also a hunter that doesnt believe in any form of gun control.
Doesnt believe in birth control, or teaching our teenage children about safe sex options in the World of HIV. Because she was taught that AIDS was a curse on gays, and poor people.
She’s also is agnaist any forms of abortion, even in the case of Rape and Incest. Even Cindy McCain doesnt agree with that.
She doesnt believe in global warming, or that the poor Polar bears are in danger cause there habitat is melting away. She is one wicked, backwards woman.
You can see why they wouldnt allow the media to interview her.
Posted by: No More Republicans | September 4, 2008, 6:20 pm 6:20 pm
oh boy, McSame is teaching her well…Sarah Paliar is now attacking “Obama-Biden Democrats” for attacking her and her family, even after she was informed of Obama’s statement that her family and children are off limits.
Oh yeah, this is gonna get reallll interesting.

I love how Barack plays the victim with a major assist from the media. He actually described his own coronation convention, which was all Obama love mixed in with some Repub bashing.

Obama just got beat by a girl…
Posted by: Sally J. | September 4, 2008, 6:34 pm 6:34 pm
The truth is that Team Obama was geared up to trash Pawlenty and got flat footed with the Palin nomination without talking points.
Then, after (prematurely) calling Palin a “Dan Quale with an up-do” and predicting that Palin would be thrown overboard after the RNC realized McCain’s “blunder”, and that she would fall flat on her face, Obama’s miscalculation (or McCain’s luck) became evident last night.
A normally nimble Obama campaign took a knife to a gunfight and got hit, no run over, by a Mack Truck now known as Sarah Palin.
The spin that Obama predicted these hits from an “unqualified” neophyte “girl” is BS–because no one did—especially Team Obama.
Let’s face it, part of the impact of Palin’s speech flowed from Team Obama lowering the bar for Palin to about 2” off the floor—that and a damn effective speech.
Posted by: Stephen Gianelli | September 4, 2008, 6:54 pm 6:54 pm
Post Palin speech:
Obama: $8M and counting (likely to hit $10M by tonite’s speech)
RNC: $1M
Whose base is fired up?

“except that he threatened to kill her dad”
That whole incident is extremely extremely fishy.
Imagine yourself in her situation. She overheard on a speakerphone Wooten arguing with her sister and threatening to kill their father. She drove to her sister’s house and watched the argument through a window. She hears Wooten shout, ‘I will kill him. He’ll eat a [expletive] lead bullet, I’ll shoot him’. Palin is still outside, she hears this death threat. She knows Wooten has a Trooper gun on his hip and she tells later he was extremely threatening.
What does Sarah Palin do? Call 911? Get one of her gun and charges inside the house to rescue the entire family (Sarah’s son Track, sister Molly and her children) from this unfolding drama?
No.
She goes to a meeting.
And writes an email 6 months after the alleged event.
Anybody who is willing to believe this story seriously needs his or her head examined.

From North Idaho College, Palin transferred 70 miles south to the University of Idaho, the state’s flagship institution. She majored in journalism with an emphasis in broadcast news. She attended Idaho, whose mascot is the Vandals, from fall 1984 to spring 1985.
She then returned to Alaska to attend Matanuska-Susitna College in Palmer in fall 1985.
Then she returned to Idaho, for spring 1986, fall 1986 and spring 1987, when she graduated.

I HAVE BEEN BLOGGING ON THIS SITE FOR ANOUT SIX MONTHS NOW, AND HAVE FOUND FEW, REALLY GOOD BLOGGERS FROM THE LEFT – MOST JUST WANT TO NAME CALL AND DIG UP DIRT.
