Obama, the Protective Father

DAYTON, OHIO — At the beginning of his remarks on education just now, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., joked about taking his daughters to the first day of school yesterday. Talking to the teacher of his oldest daughter, Malia, he asked what happens in 5th grade.

"Boys," the teacher said.

Obama joked that wasn’t the answer her was looking for. But he explained that "one of the benefits of running for president is we have Secret Service around here at all times. And they have guns at all times."

Unserious. No longer a candidate. Now a caricature.
It is starting to sound like the Dems are running a Biden and Biden ticket.
Jokes about guns are not funny. We would not see Sara joking about guns

If the hateful media wants to focus on Palin’s parenting skills
they should ask the Obama’s why they allowed their kids to be exposed to the hateful rants of Rev Wright.
Obama only left when it hurt his campaign, not for his children.

Any dad (or mom) knows what Obama is joking about here. C’mon guys, lighten up.

I thought it was a great way to lighten up the tense race. For smith and GOPbackin, would you both have been so glib if McCain or Palin had said it? By the way, smith, when McCain jokingly sings “Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran,” it’s a little difficult to buy your “no one should joke about guns” statement. To paraphrase Yoda: “The hypocrisy strong in these ones it is.”

“they should ask the Obama’s why they allowed their kids to be exposed to the hateful rants of Rev Wright”.
That’s right Ms Sally, Palin just expects her Preacher & Children to speak in unknown tongues and shake-roll around all over the floor.

“…I’ve got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.”
– Barack Obama
Mr. Obama my mother had me out of wedlock. I grew up to be the first person in my family to earn a graduate degree. She was always proud of me and never considered that my existence was a punishment. Yes, I think I get your point Mr oBama but as usual you choose stupid words to express your views which I can’t help but think is ignorance. I would like to see you tell Bristol that she was punished with a baby.

GOPbackin just voiced what all the Republican RWNJs are praying for– a McCain “accident” so their Messiah Sarah can take over.
Real Christian of you all to wish for someone else’s demise. If I were McCain, I would watch my six when Palin is around.

First of all, you really shouln’t talk about something that you obviously know nothing about. Those of us that have personally experienced this wonderful spiritual movement in our lives cannot deny that it is life changing. Maybe if you weren’t so judgemental and closeminded, you could at least acknowledge that with so many people around the world having experienced this, that there could actually be something to it. That someone like you could benefit from the enlightenment of this experience. Secondly, some on people, can people not even make a joke in this politically correct society. I don’t agree with Obama on very many things, but I can aknowledge that he was obviously making this absolutely innocent statement in jest. If we all focus on important issues that affect this country instead of the personal attacks, our country will be the real winner.

Samantha, it appears you are unaware that Obama’s own mother had him when she was 18. And look at what he has accomplished. Even more than you have!

McCain and the GOP still want to play got-cha politics — Old-time Party Politics, which most Americans are weary and growing tired of. The GOP lead us into a Pretend and Fake war, the Iraq invasion. The Real war was and is in Afghanistan where Bin Ladin is hiding today. That is not change you can believe in. Most Americans want Truth and Authenticity. We don’t want to be led into a fake war for oil! We don’t want our young men and women dying for oil and a fake war that should have never been authorized. John McCain likes to say he is good on national security, yet he voted Yes to authorize the fake war the Iraq War. What we need desperately today is more honesty by our politicians in this nation instead of the politics of Got-cha, Lies and the tearing down of one’s opponent through dishonesty. The debate should be about the real issues, not pretend wars or personal attacks and or empty and false slogans because it does nothing for the day to day lives of American people.
The Republican operatives have belittled and berated Barack Obama as just speeches, however, Barack has over 20 years of experience in public service, plus a Natural Talent to organize and get things done, as evidenced by the successful running of his Campaign. Barack Obama has an innate judgment as evidenced by his speaking out against the Iraq war when it was not popular because he had the intelligence and common sense to know that the real was was in Afghanistan not Iraq. Bin Ladin did and does not live in Iraq. Barack Obama has the ability to inspire people to unite in a common cause to bring about the Necessary Changes we need today. Because if we do not unite for change, for true democracy, together we will all go down with the ship and be united anyway but in a negative way and not a positive way.
We definitely need a change in the way our politicians campaign which as to date, tears down one’s opponent through lies and dishonesty which only tears the country down and puts a bad taste in our mouths, though each candidate has the right to point out true policy differences. We should demand honesty and integrity from our politicians and stop letting them lead us down a yellow brick road of illusion, misstatements, lies and dirty political maneuvering!
Barack Obama’s message has been throughout that all children are Everybody’s Children, and that we must change the “mindset” for going into wars. He tells us that in order for us to make it as a society and solve our problems, that we must stop being divisive: gays against straight, Muslims, Jews, Palestinians, Christians must unite and respect one another’s religions. That will be his greatest gift to humanity at this time — the ability to see each other as ourselves — or together we can go down with the ship. Everyday he risks his life. He is not running because he has a thirst for power. He offers up his life for his love of humanity and to its next stage of evolution. We should embrace this gift and offer up our prayers that he can finish his mission, his high calling. We must stopped being fooled by politicians who only has the best interest of their pocketbooks and big corporations and not the pocket books of everyday average citizens. It should not take 10 years for the minimum wage to be increased, there is no justification for that. That should tell you there that politicians who vote no for an increase care nothing about your day to day struggles. And you have to ask yourself “What has the GOP done for me lately”? The years when the American Dream was thriving, they were years when there was Democratic Presidents and Congress. That is the true party of the people. If we are to get back to the American dream again we must put in office that party who has always been inclusive and the people’s champion. That party is the Democratic Party.
And lastly we must not listen to those who refuse to understand the changing of the old order, and the awakening of humanity to the new possibilities. We need a complete purification of the political and economical arenas which would be of the greatest value in bringing back Americas greatness and strength.

Joe – you are exactly right. In generations past, there was terrible racial injustice. And yes, it is time that we ALL move on. We cannot pretend, however, that racial prejudice is a one way street. As long as there are people like Rev. Wright that continue to spew this kind of hatred and divisive propaganda, our country will never truly bridge that gap. It is time to stop making excuses for this kind of behavior and start calling it what is is – BIGOTRY – in any color is still BIGOTRY. People must stop using the past as an excuse for their actions. We can’t change the past, but we can change the future IF we all work together.

How can he possibly be an effective president and a good father at the same time?

Posted by: harry | September 9, 2008, 11:47 am 11:47 am

First of all you don’t know what I have accomplished and seeing as how Obama and I are both African Americans, raised by single parents and ivy league graduates living in Chicago and working with people in our community, and published wriiters I can’t say that the accomplishes between us are that different except for our career choices. I don’t and never have taken cocaine nor have I sat in a racist church for 20 years so yes Obama and I are different in many ways. And yes, I knew full well how old Obama’s mother was when she had him which in my view makes his statement just as ignorant.
Everyone wants their child to grow up to fulfill their full potential. Like Bristol Palin’s pregnancy, the fault lies with a lack of birth control efforts on her part, notwithstanding the abstinence issues. That baby however is NOT A PUNISHMENT
Even If I were what society would deem as “unaccomplished” my mother would still not label my existence as a “punishment” and I am sure that Obama’s mother wouldn’t.

“and look what a poor job Biden did. Corrupt sons.”
John McCain’s son ran a S&L loan into the ground costing the taxpayers billions just this year.
Guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the Keating tree.

We didn’t see the First Dude taking his kids to school because they aren’t going to school. They are being homeschooled by their college dropout dad.

I have said the same thing really about my daughter. How many parents in here can honestly say they haven’t…I mean hey if your kid is still in diapers just give it time. And on another point, Obama has been on the campaign trail for so long and will continue to be that he probably decided he wanted to be home to take his kids to their first day of school. When I was travelling with work I made sure I was home to take my daughter to her first day and site and talk with the teacher, drop of school supplies, etc. If the media had turned off their cameras or even supported Obama’s call that family was off limits this wouldn’t be a story. He is a parent as are all of the candidates in this race, please let it go people. Focus on the issues. Those of you who continue to rant about his children and his protective comments are quite silly…ask your parents how they felt the first time you brought home a date ladies…they’ll tell you.

Wow.. come on folks.. I’m NO Obama supporter and realize he’s charasmatic in delivery of his “written” thoughts.. but the guy was just taking the kids to school. There was probably little chance of getting this done in private without media. I’m sure if he wanted total privacy the NOT SO SECRET Service could have taken care of that too. Of course the ‘off cuff’ comment about secret service was not really funny nor called for… but it may be his way of reminding any morons out there with ideas to harm his family, that his family is protected.
And if Bin Ladin is hiding in Afghanistan and we were in a “fake war” there, then I’m sure he’d pick another region to go hide. These enemies of ours aren’t uniformed representing their ‘countries’ folks. This is a whole new chapter in SURVIVAL.

Biden’s sons are corrupt? One is an Attorney General & Part Time Soldier newly deployed to Iraq (just in time for the election) and the other is a Lobbyist. Wow! I wonder who he lobbies for? Average everyday Americans? I highly doubt political zealots remember whence they came from once a taste of power & money fall into their hands & pockets.
