Obama’s Efforts to Woo Women Overshadowed by the Economy
ABC’s David Kerley, Andy Fies, and Sunlen Miller report: Barack Obama knows he needs independent women to win in November. They’ve been called soccer moms and security moms. He’s running against a self-proclaimed hockey mom.
So, maybe it’s not surprising that two out of three events during a swing through the Southeast, and a rally today by Vice Presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden, are all aimed at women. But the troubles on Wall Street are keeping these "Obama women" events off the front pages.
Obama came to Coral Gables, Florida (a state leaning toward McCain) hoping to secure some of those security moms. The Obama campaign believes it has a better chance at attracting female Independent voters versus men who considered themselves Independents. A campaign official tells ABC news, "There are more female voters than men in the middle that we can pick up."
The Democrat did employ some of his strongest language during the campaign in support of women’s rights. Obama says his opponent Sen. John McCain considers the US Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade abortion rights ruling a "flawed decision." The Democrat added that "change means a president who will stand up for choice, who understands that five men on the Supreme Court don’t know better than women and their families and their doctors about what’s best for their health."
In front of an enthusiastic crowd of 7,000 mostly women, Obama praised the paths blazed by his mother and grandmother, and "women like my friend, Hillary Clinton who put those 18 million cracks in that glass ceiling. So that my daughters and all our on and daughter could dream a little bigger, reach a little higher."
The nod to his former rival got the biggest cheer and applause. The Illinois Democrat often mentions equal pay for equal work when he speaks at rallies. But at this stop he brought it up twice, forcibly. He charged that his opponent is ignoring the issue. "You’d think that solving these problems would be a high priority for anybody running for president in this country. Well, you haven’t met my opponent, John McCain," said Obama.
It was a concerted effort by the campaign today. Obama in Florida, and his running-mate in another swing state. Senator Joe Biden, at a women’s rally in Sterling, Virginia connected the economic trouble directly to his audience. "When the economy goes south who are the first people who get hurt the most? It’s women, it’s women. And I tell ya what, we’re gonna change that," the Delaware Senator said.
While Obama is talking about women’s issues, he is also spending time talking about the woes of Wall Street. It’s what’s grabbing the headlines and diverting attention from his courtship with all those "mom’s" who may decide the November election.

NOW Hillary Clinton is his friend?! After all the hateful and nasty things he said about her? And – now he wants to court her supporters, after the abuse we have suffered at the hands of his associates and supporters (and he’s never tried to stop it). Even just recently when that rap singer (sorry, can’t remember his name) called Hillary Clinton a b*&^(), he didn’t lift a finger to stop it.
I don’t know about the rest of you women voters, but I’m not going to be used by someone who only cares about his own ambition.

I am so proud of Barack Obama.
God bless him. God bless the U.S.A!
As for John McCain, he needs to explain why he supported the Republican filibuster of the LILLY LEDBETTER FAIR PAY ACT.
If you think cased of intentional sexual discrimination should be dismissed as a result of the OFFENDER hiding the evidence, you should vote for John McCain.
But if you have a sister, or a wife, or a mother who has to work for a living, you should vote out the Republican party.
They are the ones that brought us STAGNANT middle class wages, an economy on the brink of disaster, and a war that is costing 13 BILLION DOLLARS a month, not $1 of which helps us 1) educate our kids to compete in a global economy 2) repair our bridges and infrastructure before they fall into the Mississippi or 3) change our economy to use renewable, American sources of energy!

I think that is because honestly I think Mccain has some very “old school” views on women.

If Obama cared about women and women’s issues, he’d have put Hillary on the ticket, she deserved the honor (Sweetie). Now he wants to woo women back. . .a little late. I do not want him using abortion as an inflammatory wedge issue in this campaign (I thought he was a different type of politician). . .

Partially true, but misleading. Donations don’t come from companies. A list of employee contributions puts Obama second, but a different list including lobbyists and directors shows McCain getting more.

Especially to woman.
Telling people that if he is not elected rowe vs wade will be over turned.
No one has ever said they would over turn rowe vs wade, besides obama.
People truly have to stop listening to his propaganda hog wash.
He is only interested in getting elected. He has no concern about you at all.
He will lie and cheat, Oh wait he has, He will say anything to get a vote, promise anything. That does not mean as president he has the power to do any of it.
The only think a president can do is declare war, appoint supreme court justices and a few other things. (This is someone thing above his pay scale anyhow. that is what makes him scary)
The rest he promises you is just hopes and prayers. Because he is powerless to do any of them.
Putting him in charge of this country I fear, will be the thing that definitely gets us all killed.
Think of all the times he has lied to the American people.
He has not stopped lying yet. Enough said

what’s funny is no matter how much him and his nasty trolls lie they will not change the outcome on November 4th, there will be a lot of sick people on that evening and they will sit in paralized shock wondering how did this happen, and the answer is because you voted in the primaries to put an empty suit with no experience that ran on the mantra of change but did not explain it, to run against a man that has a proven record. Look in the mirror on November 4th when McCain is President and blame the person looking back at you and then turn on MSNBC(Al-Jeezera II, tell them only what we want them to know) and blame the people talking back at you and turn on CNN and ABC and blame the people talking back at you their and then suffer for the next four years like the rest of us that you got into this mess, because of Mr. Hope and Change.

Bhrandon-Excuse me, not only have I listened to his proposals. I have researched his record back to the beginning as well as matched it up to how he has voted, my decisions on voting are not taken lightly. I do my research. From day one I decided to have an open mind. I did not want to support Hillary because she was a woman and I did not want to support Obama because I am an African American. I wanted to make a clear and concise decision and I researched his voting record in Illinois and in the U.S. senate as well as the rest of his history and I then compared it to what he was saying he would do. He does not have a proven record for what he is laying out in his policies, and due to his lack of experience the only thing I have to go off of is his record and it does not add up for me, don’t assume anything I have chosen not to support him after doing my research, this is not a personality issue and it’s certainly not racial, it’s based on my research and my review of the policies that he have laid out, which technically is not much, because he has not shown how he will pay for them, except for proposing to tax the people that he call rich. I have a problem with that. I am 41 years old, college educated, worked my way up the ranks. I have one child and just recently purchased a home. I make just about $230,000.00 per year, of that I bearly see $150,000. I make this money from my salary and from doing part time consulting work, I have a moderate sized home a car note, day care and regular expenses that goes with raising a 9 year old. I have a father that is Vet that is now visually impaired and in a wheel chair due to malpractice from going in for routine surgery and I am taking care of him and all of my other bills. I am not rich by any means. I struggle like everyone else. I am still paying off student loans I claim 0/0 for my payroll taxes and at the end of the year I still owe the government, how much more am I supposed to give.

How does Obama not rolling over and giving up equate to not wanting a woman in the White House? I have not seen anything that said why Hillary was chosen for VP, so you cannot say he is doing things to prevent a woman in the White House on that account either.
This is not high school where you vote for a different person for class president because one of the candidates said something mean to you in the hall. This is a serious election that could determine what the country looks like in 4 years. If you supported Hillary, then your values are more in line with Obama and McCain. Why would you put this country in jeopardy by voting for McCain because you are mad at Obama for winning the primary and not choosing Hillary for VP? Even Hillary knows this election means more than her spot in the White House, which is why she is out there supporting Obama.

I don’t mean abortion. He’s voted against just about every chance to support women from breast cancer $$ to equal pay. Then there are the VP choices…McCain picked “let women pay for the own rape exam kit” Palin and Obama picked a champion of the Violence Against Women Act, Biden.
You can choose the guy whose economic advisor and policy soul mate says Americans are “whiners” and hates regulation and have so many homes they can’t imagine why the rest of us might struggle. Obama throws so many below the radar, below the belt blow to all his opponents, lies serially, changes his mind on all issues, and on top of that his razor thin resume, that he doesn’t have any credibility in the past and therefore, in the future.

Joe Biden is do far up the womynists butts that he oozes estrogen. Biden is there to placate Israel and the women’s vote for those who aren’t bitter enders for Hilliary. But between them and the conservative women who will go for McCain, the election will hinge on how many evaporating middle class voters Obama can guilt trip away from “National security/incompetency” campaign that is John McCain. Between “incompetent” and “incontenent”, the only way NOT to waste your vote is go for 3rd party or vote for yourself!

Badger: I am with you. McCain and Palin will take care of the economy if elected. If not elected look for the depression of 1929 and it will take a president like FDR to get us out. Obama has no capabilities whatsoever to solve the problems in Washington. What did he learn as a senator? Nothing. He was absent 130 days, no doubt reading the works of MLK because he desperatly wants to make history. He likes this country like I like Iran and you know what that means. Obama is using the people of this country for his own benefit and the majority of this generation of college students don’t understand that he is using us. They are so caught up in his copied speeches of RFK that they think he is the greatest. Several have called him their Messiah. Well, that being the case I haven’t heard of him walking on the water yet.

Barack Obama aka Barry Soetero’s whole life is a lie. As is his Christian/Muslim faith. Obamas lies started long before he entered Chicago politics, and they continue to this day, daily. The most unqualified, inexperienced candidate in the last century. What an absolute joke. His only real experience is 20 years in a racially polarizing church. Sarah Palin would make a far better president than Obama /Soetero the Marxist ideologue. Barry, go back to Chicago, and your community organizer projects.

Nancy was very jealous of Hillary and didn’t want her as the nominee. I hope the republican’s take over the house someday so Nancy Pelosi will have to step down.

Ed from Ma – If Hanibal Lecter invited you to dinner, would you accept the invitation?
Howabout an indepth investigation into the racist, radical left, anti-american mentors, and associates of Barack Hussein Obama, instead of obsessing over the pregnant daughter of Governor Sarah Palin, or her husbands 22 years old DUI? Then again,,, I suppose the private family matter of a vice presidential candidate is far more inportant than a potential, and probable national security issue pertaining to a presidential candidate, and his choice of american hating friends.

Women, please! I too hoped that Hillary could have broken that glass ceiling but the majority spoke and I think the majority made the right choice at this point in time. Obama has polarized this country in a good way. There is an unprecendented grass roots movement taking place with more new regestered voters than in any other time in recent history.
Remember ladies, if Obama were simply trying to win this election he would have chosen Hillary. They would have made a formidable team in this election but not a good team in the White House. Instead he chose someone that best complimented his skills and temperament. I commend him greatly for not going the McCain route and simply choosing a VP on politcal grounds.

Education matters. Let me repeat: Education matters. It has be proven over and over that complex issues could only be solved by smart folks. McCain/Palin is not a smart ticket. McCain is a career politician who has no idea about the economy. Let alone the global economy. Palin does not even know the definition of a global economy. She only has a suspicious Bachelor in journalism (why is she then afraid of talking to journalists?). Get real, education matters. McCain/Palin is a recipe for the ARMAGEDDON.

Ed: If you think Palin is a crook let’s go back into history after Obama graduated college or was pushed thru. He was an attorney for a crook named Rezko, covering up his shady deals in real estate. Rezko paid for Obama’s house to keep him quiet. Then pastor Wright the racist, anti-american white hating preacher that Obama had ties to for 20 years. Also, Obama met Ayers the US bomber and they became friend’s with Ayers donating to Obama’s campaign and having dinner together. And we could go on. Comments made that Obama didn’t know Ayer’s? Don’t take bets on that they both live in Hyde Park.

Democratic debate January 2008
BARACK OBAMA: “I ask my staff never to hand me paper until two seconds before I need it, because I will lose it. And my desk in my office doesn’t look good. I’ve got to have somebody around me who is keeping track of that stuff,” said Obama.
You’ve got to be kidding?
And they want to mock McCain and his inability to use a computer keyboard because of war injuries? What happened to the new kind of politics you promised Obama?
Mocking a war veteran, and calling him a racist in your latest ad.

I really wanted to vote for demoncrats this time, if Hillary was the nominee. It was heartbreaking to see a ultra qualified, confident and gracious woman lost a nomination to the newbie good looking man, Obama. Obama played the race card, publicaly endorsed and campaigned with Oprah! I lost all respect for Oprah. I cancelled the O magasine subscription which I am sure wouldn’t make the slightest difference to the giant Harpo co. I cannot bring myself to vote for Obama. He picked Jo Biden over Clinton, he deserves what he gets.

Felt compelled to post again… I find it completely appalling that people still question whether Obama is a racist or a Muslim. How many people on this post board would be willing to endure the nearly 2 years of scrutiny, exhaustion, day after day battling rumors, protests, attacks on your integrity. That is what Obama has to endure every single day. How many of you would sign up for this type of torture? And being in the White House is certainly no picnic. Just look at how much every President has aged while in office. Bush looks like the walking dead. Being President of the free world is probably the toughest job you can imagine AND it certainly does not pay well. Obama, with his undeniable intelligence, could make a much nicer living in the private sector.
He does not endure this day after day to run the country into the ground… let’s face it, Bush has done a fine job of that. Rather he wants to make sweeping positive change. Who would do this if not for love of this country.

Education matters in certain positions but you don’t need a college education to work as a secretary, phone operator, waitress, customer service, etc. You need a college education to become a doctor, lawyer, teacher, politician, etc. There are real estate agent’s selling property making large commission’s that don’t have college.

Instead of (in addition to?) us all sending around more emails about how horrible Sarah Palin is, let’s all make a donation to Planned Parenthood.
In her name.
And here’s the good part: when you make a donation to PP in her
name, they’ll send her a card telling her that the donation has been made in her honor. Here’s the link to the Planned
Parenthood website:
https://secure.ga0.org/02/pp10000_inhonor
You’ll need to fill in the address to let PP know where to send
the “in Sarah Palin’s honor” card. I suggest you use the address
for the McCain campaign headquarters, which is:

This article is pure wishful thinking on ABC’s part. Women – and men – are rejecting Palin in droves. Once we got a good look at her it was over. She’s a cardboard cutout front for McCain that has no political knowledge or experience other than what she needed in Alaska, a snarky arrogant personality, poor judgement, and she’s as secretive, dishonest and deceptive as Cheney. And one of the big ones for me: a lousy mother who let her kids run wild while she pursued her political career.

G: Are you saying that Obama loves this country? Have you ever read his background. Send for a copy of his BIO from the NYT and you read all about him, his mother and father. Its better to use common sense than nonsense. Yes, Obama’s father sent him to a Muslim school in Kenya because his father was a Muslim. He wanted Obama to become a Muslim and Obama attended that school. His mother divorced his father and took him back to Hawaii, married a Hawaiian man, divorced him, married a man from Indonesia, divorced him and later she died of cancer at age 53. Obama then was raised by his white grandmother who sent him to college. His father was married and divorced four times. Has several children somewhere in Kenya. Obama is close to his half sister from Hawaii. After he graduated later on he met Rezko and became his attorney. He met pastor Wright, the racist pastor and Obama attended that church for 20 years. Michelle belonged to a racist organization. Both were anti-american’s and hated whites. You need to read more about this candidate. He has the majority of people fooled in this country.

Both McCain and Obama do nothing more than mimic and mock each other and promote worn out and worthless politics instead of common sense policies that will provide a realistic direction for future Americans.

As an enthusiastic Hillary-supporter and volunteer for her campaign, I am appalled that so many other women in this country seemed to vote for her JUST BECAUSE SHE WAS A WOMAN, and not for her policy positions. Obama shares almost all of Hillary’s policy positions, and certainly aims to do more for women than does Sarah Palin, who opposes abortion rights for women even in cases of rape or incest, opposes sex education so that NOT ALL of our 17-year-old daughters will end up pregnant (oh yeah, Palin’s SO classy!), and is “not convinced that climate change is a man-made phenomenon.” Not to mention that she sued the Bush Administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species. To all of the women out there voting for McCain just because you’re mad that Obama didn’t pick Hillary – start thinking critically about what matters to you and your daughters. And be a real feminist, not a hypocritical one who will vote for someone based on their genitalia. Sarah Palin is an extremist right-wing idiot, the complete opposite of Hillary Clinton!!!!!!
