Oh, That Joe! (No. 16 in a Series) — Obama Pitches Woo
At a Washington, D.C., fundraiser Monday night, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., compared American voters skeptical of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., to jilted lovers reluctant to risk getting hurt again. But Biden guaranteed they would find a way to "love" Obama enough to elect him president come November.
"They like him," the Democratic vice presidential nominee said of voters. "They really want to believe. But their cynicism has been tweaked so much by the last eight years and even before that.
"It’s like, ‘God, I don’t want to fall in love again,’" he assessed, continuing with his love-scarred electorate analogy. "’I don’t want to fall in love again, because last time I did that, I really got hurt.’ I’m telling you. I’m telling you. They love him. They just, they’re just holding back because they know they better get it right this time. We better get it right this time.
"We get this wrong, man, we get this wrong, we end up with John McCain — who’s a fine guy, personally – we end up with John McCain and his philosophy of governance, his foreign policy philosophy, his notion of national security, his economic template that he operates from," Biden told supporters who had gathered at the Georgetown mansion of former ambassador to Portugal Elizabeth Bagley. "We’re in serious, serious, serious trouble.
"Everybody loves this guy," Biden said of Obama. "They just don’t want to be –- they don’t want to be fooled. They want to know more."
Biden admitted that even he wanted to know more about Obama before he accepted the number two spot, going so far as to fly out for a secret Minnesota meeting with Obama on Aug. 6.
"We sat up late one night when they smuggled me out to the Twin Cities for three hours and we talked," recalled the Delaware lawmaker. "And the central question I wanted to know is, does he believe as much as he appears to, does he really believe that we’re going to be able to make some substantial, considerable change? Is he willing to take a chance, a chance on changing the nation?
"The nation is literally poised, even with the crisis on Wall Street," observed the loquacious Blue Hen. "Even with the crisis on Wall Street, they’re poised, They’re ready to stand up. They’re ready to get up."
And that is why, promised Biden, burned by love or not, voters will find a way to love again and enable a Democratic victory come Nov. 4.
"We’re going to win this," he assured the crowd. "I promise you we are going to win this. Our fears. Think about it — sounds corny — think about your hopes, because the American public’s ready."
Predicting that voters aren’t "really going to decide to lay down their cards until you get to the middle of October," Biden preached patience and optimism for Obama.
"Things are actually good out there," Biden said. "Average people get it. They’re just not ready to put their nickel down yet. They’re gonna wait a little longer. They want to be reassured because they don’t want to fall in love again and it not be the real deal. He is the real deal. He is the real deal."

..and? Don’t get your point Jake. This series of yours has required you to just report anything now that Biden says…. “oh that joe” should be changed to “oh that Jake”.. You know those of us with a brain out here can see that you are trying really hard to make the Democratic ticket look like the Republican ticket.. but it won’t work. You can’t lower the Democratic candidates to the Republican standardbearer and his mate: a mentally unstable McCain, with a unthoughtful, spiteful, savage Palin.

No matter what Obama and Biden say… they say nothing. It’s all double talk about “Hope & Change”. Never any specifics.
I want to know what the plan is, not be told about why we’ll fall in love with the guy.
I want a leader not a lover.

Breaking News… Joe Biden used A METAPHOR! Is this really what passes for campaign coverage these days?
This is the kind of ridiculous non-story, especially amid the stories of Wall Street melting down, McCain threatening NATO ally Spain, and Sarah Palin making her townspeople pay for their own rape kits, that makes me embarrassed to say I once majored in journalism.

Rich – Obama’s plans are available online. You can read his plans to get a sense of what his priorities are. You can compare his tax plan to McCain’s on independent websites.
Just do a little research. No candidate talks details in stump speeches. That isn’t the format for details. If you want detail, go to the campaign website and do some reading. Both McCain and Obama have their plans available to read and review.

Life time democrat voting for McCain/Palin for many reasons including the energy crisis where Sarah Palin has more knowledge than both Obama and Biden together………but the most important reason is to never elect a guy that would use sexist ploys as Obama did against both Hillary and Sarah and race baiting as he has continued to use through out the campaign. This is the guy that claimed from the start that race would not be the reason he would lose and we would never hear him say such a thing but he has thrown out the race card constantly from the start. We need to break the glass ceiling for the sake of all people including our daughters and grand daughters and the best bet would have been Hillary but since Obama played his race baiting and sexist ploys to win the nomination, we still have the best shot with McCain/ Palin. Do not fall for this fool or we will see all future candidates playing racist and sexist games to win rather than putting their plans on the table. I am so sick of hearing the media like msnbc claim that one third of white dems will not vote Obama based on race when the fact is that one third of white dems will not vote Obama based on the fact that he is an empty suit playing racist and sexist games to win.

people who demand specifics
are never specific about their demands –
what exactly do you want to know
that hasn’t been spelled out
to a greater or lesser extent
within various policy statements;
what specific information does the
opposing candidate have in contrast?
what specific piece of information
would cause you to change your vote?

YOu right-wingers are funny. Your candidates have shown no plan about anything. Your VP hasn’t made more than 20 minutes of unscripted chat, and that was embarassing at that. I’ve heard nobody on the Rep side say anything but “Maverick” and “Pit-bull” and “bridge to nowhere” and “not-my-fault-even-though-I-approve-wholeheartedly-with-all-deregualtion” since the GOP convention. In addition to metaphor, Biden makes policy statement after plan after principal statement, day in and day out. As does Obama.

This is nauseating. This election should be a blow out for the Dems. It isn’t a blow out because people have serious reservations about Obama. This is not about being inclined, but afraid to fall in love with him. Many of us life-long Dems can’t even muster enough respect to like the guy. We are concerned about his lack of experience and the absence of any achievements that demonstrate a capacity to lead–to drive bipartisan consensus to actually get things done.

“Fall in love” absurd would be an understatement for a phrase or choice of topic by a seasoned politician such as Biden. The facts are these:
A) Americans are sick of politics as usual but not enough to start a third party.
B) We need “some” change but not broad change, specifically targeted to stop corruption in the business sector.
C) We need government to shrink to a point that our lives are not consumed by it.
D) The majority vote should win when it is the will of the people.
E) Special interest groups should be shut out of the governmental grounds, that why we have elected officials, they should take the calls on their respected home turf.
F) Close fifty percent of all military bases in Western Europe.
E) Stop sending aid to countries who hate us.
F) Stop bending down and cuddling with 3% of our country who says everyone else must love them for who they are and acknowledge that what they do is just fine even at your schools, offices, and now in the church.
G) All weak kneed democrats must finally grow up, put up the crying towel, and get a job! (Non-Union is preferred as this cost me money!)
H) All republicans must start acting and performing like republicans, stop spending my money.
I) Make America independent again, not just oil, but in terms of all goods, we use and use them wisely.

Obama has a very bad judgement about things. That explains his “present” vote in most scenarios. As a president you don’t get to vote “present”. You simply can’t say you have an excellent record just because you don’t have any by voting “Present” or with your own party.
Change is something that you must have proved in the past you are capable of. A man having no judgement is worser than a man with a bad judgement. Atleast the man with bad judgement can get some negative feed back and there is hope for correcting the same.
Obama needs his posse to make a decision. He is a “yes man” of his party.

“And the central question I wanted to know is, does he believe as much as he appears to, does he really believe that we’re going to be able to make some substantial, considerable change?” wow, that’s what Biden wanted to know? That he (Obama) believes as much as he appears. I got news for you some people really believe in Santa, it doesn’t mean a jolly fat man in a red suit will be backing his fat butt down your chimney.
Also, I find it so funny how Obama and Biden keep spouting about how great this nation is and in the same breath tell us how they want to change it.

Have you considered this?
Hillary backed out because she was forced by a very clever freshman senator?
What would he have on her to cause her to start slipping, on purpose to draw his numbers closer to hers?
When the numbers got close she began to waiver on many issues and stopped attacking him (Obama).

As peoplepointout that the candidates positions are online, also take a little time to investigate who owns Joe Biden’s home. MBNA, the credit card company based in his state bought his home for more than it was worth. They alsoemployed his son as a lobbyist. Biden is theman that pushed to stop the little people from being able to declare bankruptcy to get out from under their enormous debts caused by the same predatory lending that got us into this mess. Its all smoke and mirrors fromthese candidates

I’m African American and proud of it … here’s why I won’t be voting for Obama/Biden:
- he will raise my income taxes. I worked my tail off as a small business owner to get where I am. I already pay my fair share. The top 10% of income earners already pay 70% of the income taxes! strike one.
- he will raise the capital gains tax and the inheritance tax. The financial service industry will go farther in the tank. Therefore the NYC region economy will tank. My local taxes will go up. strike two.
- he will be perceived as weak and indecisive in foreign policy. China, Russia, and AQ will test us. I’m a veteran and think strong national security is job one of our president. Strike three

Hey Timothy james Adkins, it is that kind of thinking that will have you and many Obama followers shocked on Nov. 5th. If Obama had not played the sexist and racist cards and had put out any ideas of his own that made sense then and only then would the thinking dems have voted for him. I and many others will never be goated into voting for this fool just because his followers label those that do the research and find nothing to vote for in him as racist. I myself have never voted against a democrat, have voted for Governor Patrick Duval, a black man in MA and have voted against a woman running for Governor in this state but I will never vote Obama this year or most likely any other year simply because he chose to play these sexist and racist games rather than come up with any good ideas of his own. Young women did not fight the fight for womens rights, we the older women did and many of us will not have Hillary dissed like this. Palin is not the type of woman I would like to vote for but she has good ideas to solve our energy crisis and no chance of overturning Roe v Wade since all nominees for Supreme Court Justice must be approved by a majoprity of the Senate which is democrat…..however if by chance Roe v Wade did get overturned for a few years, it would be the fault of the young and niave people that followed this empty suit and then maybe, just maybe these young followers would learn to use their vote more wisely in the future. This is not high school where when you failed one test they let you retake it the next week, this is the real world……you should have stood tall and voted loudly for Senator Hillary Clinton this time……perhaps in 2012 you will have learned to vote on the issues and not skin color.

To Dennis
Sounds like Judge Thomas all over again, I too am an African American and history tells me that this country was build on the concept of people helping people as well as small business owners like yourself. How you cast your vote is your business but it is the philosophy of people like you that gave a Bush Administration two terms which has turned the world upside down and not for the good, we are all going to have to pay out of our collective pockets to get out of the mess your, experienced, strong national defense, non regulating, no taxing, take care of your ownself republicans have placed us in. I am voting for Obama/Biden because they are pragmatic intelligent men of reason and this time around America can not afford less.

“REALITY” above makes so many great points but missed one fact just a little – this NOVEMBER – 99.7 percent of whites who vote for MCCAIN over Obamiden will be voting based on experience and ethics and policy and it will have NOTHING to do with race – NADA
when you choose the LEADER of the free world, it is not about “feelings” – it is about analysis
BUT SINCE BIDEN USED THE METAPHOR, LETS’ THINK ABOUT WHY SOMEONE FALLS IN LOVE AND THEN GETS HURT BADLY – IT’S BECAUSE THE ONE THEY “FELL IN LOVE” WITH PRETENDED TO BE ONE THING WHEN THEY WERE ANOTHER !!!!
I LIKED OBAMA AT FIRST – BUT IF YOU ARE NOT IN DENIAL, THEN YOU KNOW HE IS NOTHING LIKE WHAT HE CLAIMED TO BE – FORTUNATELY, I FIGURED IT OUT IN TIME TO AVOID TOO BAD OF A BROKEN HEART
OBAMIDEN WANTS YOU TO “FALL IN LOVE” WITH OBAMA RATHER THAN LOOK AT FACTS
LET’S LOOK AT FACTS – FOR ONE, WHO IS REALLY THE “BIG FAT LIAR” IN THIS RACE
WHO IS THE ONE WHO CANNOT BE TRUSTED AT ALL ??? (sure – all political advertising in the entire history of politics pushes the envelope with marketing baloney but everyone knows that – in this race, however, one candidate almost never tells the truth but is constantly arguing that his opponent is a liar – it is the worst I’ve ever seen and it is the demoCRITE candidate – OBAMIDEN who is the biggest liar – by FAR !!!)
LIES OF OBAMA;
LIE NUMBER ONE – BREAKING PLEDGE TO FINANCE CAMPAIGN ETHICALLY
LIE NUMBER TWO – TYING MCCAIN TO BUSH AFTER DEMOCRATS HAVE APPLAUDED MCCAIN FOR YEARS AS BEING DIFFERENT THAN BUSH
LIE NUMBER THREE – TAX CUTS FOR 95% OF AMERICA – OVER 30 PERCENT OF AMERICANS ARE NOT PAYING FEDERAL INCOME TAX, SO THIS IS A MATHEMATICAL IMPOSSIBILITY
LIE NUMBER FOUR – SARAH IS A FRAUD – THE FACT THAT SARAH HAS MADE SOME REFORMS IN ALASKA IS INDISPUTABLE
LIE NUMBER FIVE – I WILL BRING NON-PARTISANSHIP BACK TO WASHINGTON (BY PICKING THE MOST PARTISAN SENATOR AS YOUR RUNNING MATE AND BY TAKING ON YOUR OWN PARTY ZERO TIMES)
LIE NUMBER SIX – THE SEX ED IN KINDERGARTEN BILL WAS ALL ABOUT PREDATOR PROTECTION AND NOTHING ELSE – SIMPLY NOT TRUE – GO READ IT YOURSELF
LIE NUMBER SEVEN – I RESPECT THE DIGNITY OF HUMAN LIFE – RRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT – YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT BABIES BORN ALIVE DIE IF THEIR MOM WANTED IT THAT WAY – DISGUSTING
LIES NUMBER EIGHT THROUGH 10,000; MCCAIN LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING AND OBAMA ABOUT NOTHING – GET READY TO HERE THAT ONE 20,000 MORE TIMES (LIKE ON SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE FOR EXAMPLE)
I COULD GO ON – BUT LIE NUMBER ONE WAS BY ITSELF ENOUGH TO TURN THIS INDEPENDENT REPUBLICAN
how can you tell when obama is lying ??
answer
his lips are moving

Good grief, what nonsense.
This guy could possibly be Vice President of the United States?!?
And, Joe, the more one finds out about Obama the LESS one likes about him. It is just too bad that the media does not investigate and report on him with the vigor they go after Palin.
+++++++++++
Does anyone know what grades Obama received in the 3 colleges he attended? Or the classes he took?
Does anyone know how Obama got into Harvard? (The average GPA is 3.9 to get in and LSAT scores of 176).
Obama was out of college for five years and then all of the sudden he is in Harvard. How?
In his book does he discuss this application to Harvard process? (One has to apply nearly a year ahead of time.) Only 8% of those students accepted have been out of school for over 5 years. Only about 11% of those that apply get accepted.
Did Obama apply for other Ivy League law schools at the same time or did someone grease the wheels and get him in Harvard and pay his tuition?
How was his tuition paid?

Hey Curtis J….
Anyone that missed the race baiting and sexist ploys by Obama will not recognize them now even if spelled out but:
1) Responding to a debate question on what he thought of Hillary, after Hillary went to great lengths to praise Obama, he said “She’s likeable enough”…..very sexist
2)Failure to step up and condem the media sexist remarks was encouraging them all…..very sexist
3) Pretending that Bill Clinton stating an historical fact, “Jesse Jackson won SC too”……race baiting for the stupid since anyone with IQ above 90 knew Clinton was not even slightly racist……Even Jesse Jackson said “no” that comment was not racist and then Obama decided to claim it was using “code words”….very much race baiting and meant to gain the support of fools.
4) While speaking to a large group Obama said the name Hillary and flipped the bird, then waited for his laugh……VERY SEXIST
5) Obama continues to use words carefully selected against Sarah Palin like the “you can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig”…he was clearly talking about Sarah and his audience believed him to be talking about Sarah….very SEXIST…..this is way different than when McCain was talking about Hillary’s health care plan and used the old phrase…very different.
6) Obama claimed he would never say or believe that he lost the race if he lost, due to race but now we hear him talking about the dems that will not vote for a black man constantly and never talking about the blacks that are voting for him only because he is black…..racist
BY THE WAY, go back to vocab study:
The definition of con·so·nance (kns-nns)
n.
1. Agreement; harmony; accord.
2.
a. Close correspondence of sounds.
b. The repetition of consonants or of a consonant pattern, especially at the ends of words, as in blank and think or strong and string.
3. Music A simultaneous combination of sounds not requiring resolution to another combination of sounds for finality of effect and conventionally regarded as harmonious or pleasing.

There are no Democrats on this thread that are pro McCain/Palin. This is all just a ruse to make it appear as if Obama has no support among his own party.
Your efforts are pretty transparent and rather pathetic.
The only way McCain can win this is by stealing the election. The Republican party is finished. The only ones who vote Republican anymore are those who refuse to open their eyes. They lie, cheat, steal and have no true morals. They only care about money, power and sex. That is the true Republican today.

What’s wrong with what Biden said here? Seems like this “series” is just taking the easy path of labeling every random thing he says as a gaffe. I like what he said and don’t understand what was wrong with it.
Actually, I don’t mind most of the alleged gaffes, because they are the result of candid, unfettered openness with the public, supporters, and the press. What’s really happened isn’t a non-stop gaffe attack, as you’re implying here. Instead, I think the Straight Talk Express has unexpectedly reappeared amongst us, complete with 24/7 reporter access, and it just happens that Barack Obama’s running mate Joe Biden is the candidate on board that bus.
Good for him and good for Obama for being strong enough to choose such a partner. Obama Biden 08!

Thanks for the spelling lesson reality. it could be the translator from word to this blog, nonetheless, what you are offering as proof is no more than subjective inference and not a direct sexist or racist statement, as far as stepping up to condemn the media for sexist remarks, let’s leave the whining to the republicans, and your reference or defense about Bill Clinton, well let’s just say its contradictory to say what he said wasn’t racist and what Obama said was, they are both subject to interpretation

To Zank,
I worked for an Ivy league School and had occasion to speak to some of Obama’s professors during one summer break and by those accounts that Obama is the real deal, perhaps you should find out who some his professors were and ask them before you go shooting your mouth off based on some neoconservative dogma which fits your narrow ideological agenda

Oh Zank, get real. When you see the requirements for normal students to get into Harvard, remember they don’t have affirmative action and all that to help. Normal students have to work to get there. They can’t rely on a quota or a giveaway.
