Oh, That Joe! (No. 14 in a Series) – Biden Says Obama Won’t Take His Beretta
Sen. Barack Obama better not mess with his running mate Joe Biden’s guns…or else.
In an out-of-nowhere attempt to re-assure a southwestern Virginia labor crowd about gun owners’ rights, Biden — who regularly scores "F" ratings from the National Rifle Association — warned Obama that if "he tries to fool with my Beretta, he’s got a problem."
"I guarantee you Barack Obama ain’t taking my shotguns, so don’t buy that malarkey," Biden said Saturday at the United Mine Workers of America’s annual fish fry in Castlewood, Virginia. "Don’t buy that malarkey. They’re going to start peddling that to you."
Biden told the crowd that he himself is a gun owner. "I got two," Biden said, "if he tries to fool with my Beretta, he’s got a problem. I like that little over and under, you know? I’m not bad with it. So give me a break. Give me a break."

Romney on a Roll
Joe better get that in writing because Obama’s stump speech on gun rights do not match his record in the Senate.
BO doesn’t want people to know he is the most anti-gun presidential candidate in history.
He voted for stricter gun control trying to ban shotguns and some hunting rifles. He is against concealed weapons.
With Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Biden running this country–well you better buy a gun before Jan. 20th if you want one.
Don’t believe Joe Biden either.

So is this a hint from the Obama camp?
I mean if Biden said it isn’t true, then it must be true! Obama and Biden are the biggest liars in DC today! The two ding-dongs better be careful with all those people out there clinging to their guns and religion!

naturally. In Obama’s America, Senators may be able to own firearms. And other people, like Rosie O’Donnel’s security detail. The rest of us? I doubt it.

Once elected Obama will flip-flop about the 2nd amendment the way he lied about FISA, the surge, public finance, drilling, town-hall debates.
Obama/Biden know they are in danger of losing millions of votes if they tell the truth about BO’s record of banning guns.
Obama is no friend to gun owners–he called them bitter.

Funny enough, those are the kind of jokes that win crowds over. Nobody is taking any notice of Joe but he is dealing a great deal of damage for Obama on Mccain. Mccain is stucked with Palin and neither can campaign without the other. Obama will not be campaigning much next week while he is preparing for the debates, Biden will be in charge. Cant wait till next week. Also, all Obama has to do next week, is to hold his own and cream Mccain when it comes to the town hall and economy debates.

He knows Mccain’s strengths and weaknesses and who says he cant win the bluecollar voters. He sure knows what they like to hear because he has deep bluecollar roots. If there is anybody that can win Ohio and PA for Obama, it is Joe Biden and Bill Clinton because they both have that small town heritage and know what to say to those voters.

Posted by: mere | September 20, 2008, 5:10 pm 5:10 pm
To Vuzous:
Look at Obama’s actions.
He voted to keep a felony for a homeowner protecting his family against a robber in their own home because the homeowner used a handgun.
Obama is against handguns in homes and his supreme court justices will support that.
Chicago has no handgun laws in your own homes.
Obama’s votes show he is anti second amendment.
Look at his votes not what his speechwriter says.
Obama called gun owners bitter yet he is fooling americans when you look at the polls.

It’s a tough call. Dems attack the Second Amendment.. the Republicans gut the rest of the Bill of Rights.
Posted by: Dutch | September 20, 2008, 5:15 pm 5:15 pm
Obama is exactly like Diane Feinstein and would ban all handguns if he “just had the votes”. He is against concealed carry, now the law in 48 of the 50 states. He supported the unconstitutional ban in D.C. Obama/Biden are the most anti-gun, pro extreme gun control zealots ever running on either ticket. Make absolutely no mistake, Obama and Biden are the most anti-2nd amendment folks on the political scene in practice. The reason you have not heard from them, and they will oppose a vote on the recently passed House Resolution on the D.C. gun ban in the Senate, is that they are simply ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ISSUE. My suggestion, e-mail, CALL, or write your U.S. Senators right now and ask them to take the House Resolution on the D.C. handgun ban to the Senate floor for a roll call vote, BEFORE the recess. Please do it NOW.

Just look at Mccain’s comments that the fundamentals of the economy are still strong, of course everyone knows what he was trying to relay but in Politics, you twist it the other way round. Thats Politics and it set him back that he may never recover till the elections are over. He has made those comments like fifteen times but Monday’s own came at the wrongest time and Mccain is sure paying the price. Look at the shift in Polls in just four days.

Say it aint so, Joe (Biden). Your Beretta, if like mine, is a 15-shot clip, with one more in the pipe. Right now, this type of Beretta is ILLEGAL in Washington, D.C. under current “emergency” regulations. Your Democrat colleagues, except for 82 vertebrate members of the House, will oppose the House Resolution on the D.C. firearm case from reaching the Senate floor before recess. So, Please, DO NOT lie about your support for the 2nd amendment. If you did support it, you would NOT let D.C. ignore the U.S. Constitution under your watch and that of Obama in the Senate right now, Democrats are in the majority in BOTH houses. I suggest you and Obama own up to your extreme support of restrictive gun control and notions that would leave people without a functional firearm in their own home. Americans want a roll call vote, NOW.

Obama’s exact quote on guns “I’m sure we can find away to honor the Constitutional right to bear arms, without letting AK-47′s get into the wrong hands”
This kind of tempered judgement is why Obama is up in the polls.

Jake,
When you say “14 in a Series” you really mean 3 or 4 and are just trying to enforce the narrative you attempted to create when Biden was nominated, right? When it comes to gaffes, McCain is outdoing Biden by an order of magnitude, and Palin is on track to do the same. Go ahead and report on the small inconsequential stuff while the world burns – but at least be accurate about it.
Posted by: Tom Hughes | September 20, 2008, 5:32 pm 5:32 pm
And yesterday’s comment on Social Security may have secured Obama the Presidency unless Obama makes a grave mistake. Mccain has said things that should never have been mentioned at this time. How could he have given those comments on Social security this week. Obama is going to beat on it for the next three days, debates, and till the end of the elections. Bush made those comments and the Republicans lost the majority in the Senate. Now Mccain is repeating it. That is a perfect gift to Obama and the Democrats.

Evidently you don’t like Joe Biden and judging by the majority of the rest of your posts, you don’t care for the Democrat ticket as a whole. To criticize Joe Biden’s “gaffes” but not go after Sarah Palin’s bizarre comments at all (at the recent Michigan town hall meeting she responded to a question about economic empowerment for women by talking about sports…) seems pretty biased to me. It’s fine if you’re supporting John McCain, just be explicit about it and don’t try to peddle this blog as being fair and balanced.

The record clearly shows that Biden and Obama worked hard to earn the ‘F’ rating on gun-rights that the NRA branded them with. Heck anyone with half a neuron can easily look up the Democratic Party platform for 2008 which calls for a ban on so-called “assault weapons” (in reality primarily a widescale ban on self-loading rifles).
What is even more disturbing though is the astonishing dishonesty Obama/Biden are employing to conceal their anti-gun politics. Such stunning deceit speaks to much more than the gun issue and brings into question what kind of leaders they would be in office. Perhaps the real reason Obama selected Biden as his VP is because they are so mentally compatible — well educated, intellectual, egoist, elitist, and profoundly dishonest.

Legal guns are not the ones that the country has a problem with it is the ones that criminals have that is the problem and stopping gun ownership would only increase the illigals having them. But people like Obama have to stand on something and when he is talking to the SF or LA bunch it is no guns but when he is in the midwest its we should be able to have guns. He knows how to form his speach to meet the needs of the ones he is talking to. Some day it will catch up with him but I am not sure before he is elected. if after that then we better be ready to fight his gun ban.

The Obama/Biden ticket is the most anti-gun presidential campaign in recent memory. In Obama, you have a former board member of the Joyce Foundation who steered millions of dollars towards gun-control groups. He’s touted his support for bans on handguns and a 500 percent increase on taxes for guns and ammunition, and has called for bans on ammunition (including some of the most popular hunting ammunition).
His running mate, Joe Biden, is a career anti-gun politician. Remember 1994? Remember those dark days when the Clinton administration and their cronies in Congress banned semi-automatic firearms based entirely on cosmetic features? Guess who was one of those most responsible for that gun ban? None other than Joe Biden.
Biden has consistently voted against your Second Amendment rights as a U.S. senator, and Obama’s made it clear that his vision of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is meaningless. This pair, if elected, would be the biggest threat to your firearm freedoms in decades, and that’s with the recent decision in the Heller case. We can’t afford to stay home on Election Day, and we can’t afford to stay silent between now and then. It’s our job to speak up and speak out about the Obama/Biden ticket so that every gun owner is aware of what’s at stake … nothing less than the continued exercise of our Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

I know that Sen. Biden is a smart guy. I know that he means well. So why does he keep saying stupid, condescending things? Sen. Obama favors very strict gun control. An anti-gun Democrat President + a Congress dominated by anti-gun Democrats = more restrictions on guns, ammunition, carry permits, and gun owners. Sen. Biden has to know that.

If Obama had been president during the last 4 years, the 2nd amendment decision this summer would have been 6-3 against the 2nd amendment right to own a gun.
Roberts and Alito would have been liberal judges.

In all seriousness,
This election is running so close, and there are so many problems to deal with, the winner might actually boil down to whatever the crisis of the morning is right around Election Day.
Last week, economic problems, financial meltdown, advantage to Democrats,
Today, possible Al Qaeda bombing in Pakistan, terrorism re-emerging, advantage Republicans.
Keep track of what’s going on in the nation and the world over the next five weeks, we might be able to figure this one out……

It’s now time for gun owners to take a careful look at just where Barack Obama stands on issues related to the Second Amendment. During the primaries, Obama tried to hide behind vague statements of support for “sportsmen” or unfounded claims of general support for the right to keep and bear arms.
But his real record, based on votes taken, political associations, and long standing positions, shows that Barack Obama is a serious threat to Second Amendment liberties.
Don’t listen to his campaign rhetoric! Look instead to what he has said and done during his entire political career.
This is all cited and referenced so that you can check for yourself if you have trouble believing it.

I thought ol’ Joe was cut of more common cloth. Why does he have to have an Italian shotgun? Isn’t an American-made Ruger Red Label O/U shotgun good enough for him?
I’m glad to see that Biden is falling into the John “I’m a serious hunter and gun owner” Kerry mode. You know – talk about your fancy over & under shotgun when most people use either a pump or semi-auto because they can’t afford a nice double.
The Second Amendment ain’t about duck hunting and finally the Supreme Court agreed on that. And it doesn’t just apply to fancy shotguns owned by career politicians. It also applies to Glocks, 1911′s, AR-15s, and AK’s as well as cheap Jennings or Lorcin .25 ACPs owned by some resident of the inner city.

I’ll vote for Obama/Biden, though I own nine guns. Why? They are NOT the Bushies who saddled us with another trillion dollar buyout!
Look, gun owners. There’s not much sense in worrying about owning guns if we’re constantly using them, because using them means a bunch of us will get KILLED.
The incumbent Republicans shattered the economy, or allowed it to happen. They deserve to be thrown out. The only realistic way to do that is to vote the Dems in for four years and RIDE THEIR BUTTS the whole time.

Biden avoids the real issue. The real issue is not whether Obama and an all Democratic Congress will CONFISCATE firearms.
The question is “Will they infringe upon the 2nd amendment by banning the sale of certain arms?”
In that … the answer is not in doubt. Democrats WILL ban guns. They will start with the semi-autos. Then they will place deep restrictions on handguns … making them virtually unobtainable … or at the very least making them a “why bother?” item.
Democrats will LIE to get elected … we’ve seen this enough. Their favorite movie is “Say Anything”.

All the reporters and Obama’s 30 lawyers up in Alaska to dig up dirt on Gov. Palin. Biden told reporters in ’88 that he was at the top of his college and law school classes – both lies. He also plagerized speaches from lefties in Europe. Guess reporters already know that Biden is a phoney…that’s why there are no reporters following Biden around but dozens following Gov. Palin. I am glad Obama is not out to take hand guns and shotguns away from honest people. His fight to keep assualt rifles and rocket launchers, out of criminal hands though, continue to be oppossed, by those who think anyone should get there hands on them. Its scary to think that American are willing to hand military weapons to anybody. Republicans and Democratics alike support Obamas regulations, on gun control. I just wish more Americans would just read his ideas, and comprehend, that he feels children shouldn’t own assult weapons. Yes, I know some far-rightys, wish to see an Abrams tank, or a fighter jet in everyone christmas stocking, but that happens to be what the military is for. How quickly Americans forget Waco and Ruby Ridge. When more than 75% of Americans fought, to restrict the use of Military weapons. Biden and Obama both agree that buying an assualt rifle, out of the back of a russians van, should be illeagal. But far-rightys would rather sacrifice their children, so the parents can shoot clay pigions. Palin would rather put a hand gun in a childs hand than to take care of Alaskas crime rate. Quick money, on a hand gun sale, in Palins pocket. She would sell a dirty nuke in a suitcase, if she thought she could make a dollar. Check her basement. Is that a tunnel to Russia?

Ruby Ridge and Waco, had NRA members, that supported the fall of the government. It is one of those ‘secret’ groups that use ‘war’ as a way to forceful peace. When you drop out of the NRA, they send you hate mail for six months, claiming your next door neighbor is a terrorist. These become the extremists. The parents of the Combine killings, were NRA members. Teaching hate and handing a gun to a child is a wrong message. Did you know my ex-NRA group, passed up three ‘sign-ups’ because of race. Two group outings convinced me that it was the wrong group to associate with. So I stopped supporting them, and recieved hate mail for six months. You do not have to join a militant group, to own a hunting rifle. I still hunt deer, rabbit, and squirrel every year. Thank you Obama, for trying to keep weapons, away from gangland terrorist. The gun issue is always used as a political pawn. It’s all about the candidate posturing up to their supporters.
Given the magnitude of support required to ammend the Constitution(2/3 of congress, 3/4 of the States) it’s EXTREMELY unlikely there will EVER be an issue supported by that many Americans as to merit another ammendment.
The discussion for or against the second ammendment is a partisan waste of time.
Posted by: Navy Vet | September 20, 2008, 11:13 pm 11:13 pm
Navy Vet, I agree it becomes a waste of time, but many American do not understand the concept of a constitution. When people have this fear of a candidate, who they think will take away their guns, Biden steps in and explains Obama will not take away guns. He is not about taking guns away, just keeping them away from extremists. Thank you, for pointing that out, to the people.
Posted by: historyforgotten | September 20, 2008, 11:30 pm 11:30 pm
Exactly.
I mean, it’s no problem for people to carry guns for sport or protection, but it becomes troublesome when it’s too easy for criminals to get weapons- and even military stuff.
To completely get rid of the second amendment would be a colossal task. People just want some regulations, that’s all.

If Obama is against guns that means Biden’s too. There should be no exception to the rules or he should change his speech. I wasn’t aware that Biden had guns. There is no need for guns in the home. Too many children were shot handling their parent’s guns that didn’t have them hidden. I am voting for McCain but I wish Palin would stop hunting and shooting in the wild for food when there is plenty of food to be bought in the store. Kerry is another one that hunts and shoots birds.

WestCoastMessenger,
Yes, it must be acknowledge there’s a debate over the interpretation of the word, but what worried me was how Palin didn’t even seem to have the foggiest idea that it was some sort of policy ( no matter how screwed up) of Bush’s. This can be seen from how she went on about Bush ridding the world of Islamic extremists and said “His worldview?”.
Maybe she wasn’t sure of the specifications, fine, even thought this is the corner stone of Bush’s foreign policy. But she did not seem to even recognize the legal implications of the word “Doctrine” and its policy implications either.

It’s funny how Far right Republicans can not interprate the constitution. Thats why I am a middle ground Republican that understands, that McCain made a mistake, when he said Obama wants to take your guns away. Biden tells the people, mcCain is wrong and Obama can not take the guns away, and those Far Righters lose the understanding of the Constitution. Republicans, come back to the middle groubd called Earth, and reread the Constitution. Obama is for taking assualt rifles away from criminals. Giving guns to everybody in Alaska, has not helped Palins crime rate. Middle Republicans that understand the law, are voting for Obama, because mcCain is out of touch with us. i am aa Republican who understands the law. I dont understand why mcCains Tycoons, are not understanding the constitution. mcCain was a good man once, but now he lets the Oil and foreign investors whisper in his ear of the quick buck. Please help McCain come back to earth. Americans for America. Not Tycoons for foreign investments. Except Spain. McCain thought Spain was in South America. Have you seen our allies rantings, on Palins and McCains remarks? Ouch. But Palin will have a chance to talk about more investment with Afganistan, next week. I’ll bet that the “Berettas” owned by Biden are shotguns and he intentionally used the name to cause readers to infer he was talking about 9 mm pistols. Most people don’t picture shotguns called Berettas. Dems have gotten TOO good at these word games and we must be diligent. Liberals like Biden are more than happy to see everything BUT shotguns removed from our reach and use rhetoric like this to insinuate that Liberal politicians are as keen on 2nd Amendment rights as Conservatives. They SAY they want to remove “automatic” weapons from the reach of average citizens, but mean to eliminate access to much more. This while knowing darned well that the crooks will always maintain steady access to THEIR supply and get what they want by the time 911 calls bring the protectors around. Protectors who themselves are often charged and convicted for ‘violating the civil rights’ of the criminals.

Posted by: historyforgotten | September 21, 2008, 1:29 am 1:29 am
The sad part is that most criminals get their weapons from law abiding citizens, who don’t believe in regulations. If a hunter really needs an automatic rifle to shoot a rabbit. I suggest, they stick to a bee bee gun. Less random shots.
Posted by: historyforgotten | September 21, 2008, 1:33 am 1:33 am
I feel that a special regulated ‘gun club’, could house varios rifles and hand guns, so people can still fire any weapon the want. Or, isn’t that called the military?
Posted by: historyforgotten | September 21, 2008, 1:41 am 1:41 am
you must fight fire with fire. if a criminal appears before you with a semi automatic, you must have equal firepower to get out alive. i do not own guns, except the H20 kind, but I don’t ever want a criminal to think I might be a law abiding citizen toting a single fire pistol. I want that thug to think I might have the same firepower as him/her. It’s that simple.

Bill Clinton says this about Palin: “She handled herself very well,” he said, “I get why she’s done so well. She, she’s, it’s a mistake to underestimate her. She’s got good intuitive skills. They’re significant.” Apparently Obama does not have this attribute. Obama relies on committees to formulate his policies so he can articulate substance in his GQ style. Apparently he will continue to rely upon these committees until he can get up to speed or wait till after being elected to shed his façade and do his own thing. The Clintons are backing Obama with less than a half-hearted effort for a good reason. The party loyalists aren’t backing Obama because he was chosen by popular vote but because this is their opportunity to have their party identity in the White House. The Clintons are worried about an Obama presidency and are torn between party loyalty and what is best for this country. There are changes that would be very bad for this country. Changes like giving in to belligerents and tyrants that are trying to blackmail us into compromises on our security and national interest. The economy is the topic now but there are greater threats down the road with an Obama presidency.

Kitty, thats why we must take assault rifles away from criminals. Thats like telling a woman who is pregnant, ‘you are being invaded. Kill it’. If a terrorist living in Miami uses a nuke in St. Louis, do you really plan on using a nuke on Miami. It starts with education first. Remember the Old West, where everyone had a pistol. If everyone walked around with cocealed uzis, would you shoot the first one who, looked at you funny? We need to support our law enforcment, unstead of investing in foreign countries. Read this twice if you have to, but just think about what you really want. A Free America, does not come from freedom of gun choice. It comes from taking guns away, from the unlawful. Any Good person with an assault rifle, can have a bad day, and start shooting anybody. Everybody still has a cold war mentality.

Single issue Voter, I ask for you to look at more than blogs. Alaskan crime has shot through the roof, since Palin took over. Her state debt can not be covered by rape kits alone. Some opinions are biased for and against Palin and how Alaska is ran, so I went back to 1980 of Alaskas history to follow it forward, to present. Was she a complete failer. No. She help the state with band-aids, which fixed a short term problem, but did’t think long term. Wasila, was happy to have a gym, for the first three months, but the payback is now bankrupting the Town. When the citizens wanted to fix the roads and sewers, she cut corners, with the funding, and now the roads and sewage systems have no proper drainage. As Governor, she wanted a bridge built to connect a tourist attraction to the mainland, and won the funds for it. But a closer inspection showed the revinues from the bridge would not pay for the bridge. So she opted to stop the project after protestors, demanded the money not be wasted. She is a shoot first, pick your friends later kind of decission maker. She does not think about long term effects. Success in the short run puts quick cash in your pocket today, but the long term effects will take money from the citizens. History is a wonderful tool.

Hopefully the Tycoons will pull out a map for her, and point out where it is.

What an appropriate psuedonym you have choosen. Why don’t you quit spamming the comments with your repetitious B.S.
I don’t believe any of the claims you have made about yourself. I believe you falsely claimed to be a republican and to own guns in an effort to bolster your credibility. But I don’t know you and can’t prove any of that.
But I can disprove your claims about Obama’s postion on guns. Anyone who spends five minutes googling can discover the truth about Obama, no one has to take my word on faith. Obama and Biden are the most anti-gun ticket from any major party ever.
Right in the Democratic Party platform of 2008 is the desire to restore the inane ban on so-called “assault weapons”. What makes that policy stance doubly insane is the unlamented ban of 1994-2004 never did anything to prevent crime, that ban was always nothing but political B.S. and even many supporters admitted as much (but only after the law was passed). And now that the Supreme Court has finally put teeth into the constitution’s second amendment any new ban should get struck down by the court as unconstitutional.
Of course that assumes Obama doesn’t get the chance to pack the court with more anti-gun justices. The second amendment came within one vote of being destroyed, as the D.C. v Heller decision was but 5 to 4. Obama must not be given the chance to upset that balance.

Obama will Push for Place taking your guns on the states and local governments to do.
Obama is anti-guns
Obama wants to take away the nuclear power, Nuclear missles, Nuclear defense of this country. He has stated that many times in his career.
By Mr Bidens comments he knows and it proves Obama is anti-2nd amendment rights of gun owners. Showing we have a VP candidate who’s views and principles differ from the Presidental Candidate on the same ticket.
The Democratic Party is in Shambles as it is, thanks to Mr Obama. With it getting worse by the day.
From One Democratic voter to all, Please vote for anyone but Obama if you love America and want to see This Great Country Survive.

Is PALIN ready to take over? I don’t see Biden making big gaffes such as insinuating at a Second Cold War. Yes, I know she later did say they would use diplomacy, but her phrasing allowed her words to be so easily misconstrued. The Russians could keep on replaying “Perhaps so” to fan outrage if they wanted to. And she called Iran a terrorist nation, I’m sure there’re some cross citizens who don’t like America too much who are only going to dislike it further for being lumped together. Their president may say one thing, but I can assure you most average citizens don’t want to get into a war any more than we do.
Gaffes over small things or gaffes over foreign policy? Which is worse?
And Obama does not want to revoke the Second Amendment. He simply wants to make it harder for criminals to get rocket-launchers or sniper-rifles that are usually restricted to the military, and crooks in general, from obtaining fire arms to easily with more regulation (Checking of records e.g).

Brad, Brad, Brad. If Obama wanted to take guns away, he wouldn’t have signed that little piece of paper, to put locks on hand guns. Don’t tell my wife, I don’t have a gun, she may think our hunting trips are just dreams. :)
Obama wishes to keep military hardware, out of silly peoples hands. If you were shot with a mussle loader. Would you agree that would hurt enough. Yet, in none of his signed bills, does he wish to take it away. My wife likes her 410/22 rifle, to hunt rabbits. Less kick than a 12 gauge. Again, Obama doesn’t mind, since I have been responible with these. But the majority of America, does not understand, why someone would use a military grade weapons, to go deer hunting. Semi- auto can very easily become automatics by filing down, the firing pins. My father retired for the National Guard 10 years ago, and we still enjoy 12 gauge hunting together. Obama says, no problem. Anyways, its more of a state leave law anyways. How bad would you feel, if your sons best friend ‘Jimmy’, barrowed your sons AK-47, and ended up in a bell tower poping off people, because good little ‘Jimmy’, was having a bad day. Selling weapons, that can not be turned into automatics, are fine. If you want to be a Police Officer, or Deputy, or join the military. Cool. And thank you for protecting me. But the wrong weapons are used to often to shoot cops. I am pretty sure they don’t enjoy this. But hey, I just read reports, and watch the news.

So then, why didn’t Obama sign the DC amicus bill ? Ever heard the the Joyce Foundation of which Obama was a board member who doled out big bucks to anti-gun groups.
Did you know thwt Obama wdid and would support the power of government to have you arrested if you shot someone who was inside your home. He did not support the “Castle Dcotrine” law that was passed, and the passed again over the govenor’s veto, in the illinois State legislature..

Er, I think it MAKES SENSE for the government to be able to arrest you for shooting someone inside your own home?
Obama is NOT going to take away your guns. He just wants more regulations so criminals cannot buy guns so easily, or so that terrorists cannot get hold of military-grade weapons as easily as buying bread.
You have no reason to be worried, unless, you use a Galil Sniper bolt-action rifle or a rocket launcher to shoot your caribou or something.

Didn’t Americans realize now how Obama is anti-American values. His change is purposely to have cultutual change.. from the best democratic government system and governance to a big government controlled systeme – healthcare to education to family values, from a succesful capitalist economy to a socialistic equality of distributing wealth by taxes and using police pwoer of the State to regulate wealth accumulation fo individuals, from religious freedom to mobilizing liberation of theology through twisting Christian dogmas for the sake of Black theology, from freedom from debt of every family and financial idependence to dependency of the government welfare fund by dole outs and expanding welfare benifits to lazy minority… and many more. Completely anti-American and the liberals who are behind Obama will control and develop and new kind of world order he preached in Germany recently ( rather than visit the troops he went to announce the new world order he is expecting to lead as backed by his boss, the real power behind this)

jack burton, interesting link. Ever lived on a military base. Aberden Proving Grounds, Maryland has a firing range that can be used by the families, of military personal. I have seen what one can to with various assalt rifles and modified semi-auto. Under the right supervision, they are fun to fire. But on the streets, well ask a police officer how he feels about a face to face shoot out with a modified semi-auto. Most Police Officers are Republicans, but wish to see a ban on many weapons. Just ask them.

In Communist China during the Cultural Revolution, Mao seized all the assets of the rich, their land, their money, whatever, and said it now belonged to state, and then went about allocating every peasant a piecw of a noble’s land.
Having the upper income pay taxes to help the lower income get some credits to help them climb out of the huge hole the Bush admin has run them into is hardly the same as a socialist ideology. Do you know what a socialist country is like? It means all the major companies that control the food you eat to what underwear you wear, all come under the government, not just healthcare, and there’s little or no privatization at all.

I was hoping then when CNN had a the so called investigative “Obama Revealed” that they can get to the bottom of the problem as an independent mainstream media and tell all. Why they did not interview relatives fo Obama( those older ones) to dispel the allegations that he was born in Kenya. It is of course, and CNN knew that in Kenya it is a common knoweldge that Obama was born in their country and yet CNN has become deaf and blind to inform the public about this facts. It is common knowledge also in Indonesia that Obama was educated in Muslim practice and beliefs because hsi step father is a known Muslim ardent believer. Cnn never bothered to interview people who knew about Obama’s childhood. Why suppress facts that are relevant to the voters and CNN showed their bias reporting. True to its saying ” the last one to know is the wife of the husband’s indiscretions” and so goes the American people, they be the last one to know while thw world knows about who is Obama.

You say…
“mussle loader” for muzzle loader
“410/22 rifle” for .410 shotgun
“filing down firing pin” for conversion of a rifle to a machinegun
…and that sounds to me like someone pretending to demonstrate knowledge about firearms, when they really don’t know the subject.
I think it’s remarkable how many of your opinions on gun policy seem to match so closely talking points from an anti-gun group such as the VPC or AHSA.
Oh and as for your fear of weapons which are easily converted to machineguns, the existing NFA of 1934 law already allow the ATF to prohibit such firearms. Which is why the original semi-auto version of the MAC-10 was removed from the marketplace back around 1982.
Obama’s proposed ban on so-called “assault-weapons” has nothing to do with machineguns (or criminals). It is primarily a ban on rifles. And rifles of all types account for less than 7% of all the means used for murder in the U.S., and the phony “assault-weapon” subtype would only be a small fraction of that 7%. So in other words murders by “assault-weapon” probably number less than the number of deaths by lightning-strike. “Assault-weapons” are not a real problem except in the fevered imaginations of gun-prohibitionists.
An “assault-weapon” ban has always been and always will be a joke. And like the Washington D.C. ban on handguns just as vulnerable to challenge on second amendment grounds. (At least until Obama packs the courts)

Brad, the handgun ban was asked for by the police force, during DCs crime times. Most law enforcment officials will state clearly, how the want ‘not a ban’,but restrictions, in place to save police officers lives. I am not an expert on weapons, but living on several army bases has aloud me access to view and handel many types. Muzzel loader, sorry I miss-spelled it. Again no expert. Yes, I even loaded bullets backwards, in a .22 rifle when I was 12 years old. My first experience with guns. My sixteenth birday, my grand father gave me a single shot .22. It was an old hand me down, but a hunting accident, caused me to loose it. By law, I was not able to obtain a hunting license again, until I was 18.

I don’t think the gun control issue is very high on the issues list. Lots of other more important issues for the next in line. Obama keeps saying he is concerned with staying within the constitutional rights of Americans. So doesn’t that mean guns stay in the hands of hunters?

Joe Biden pushed for an “assault weapon” ban long before Clinton was even elected. He’s in favor of lawsuits intended to bankrupt gun manufacturers. He voted to confirm the judges who would’ve overturned the 2nd amendment in Heller and voted against confirming all but 1 judge who voted to support the RKBA.
Biden has no credibility on the issue of taking guns away. He’s spent decades in DC trying to do just that, and anyone who falls for this “malarky” shouldn’t be too surprised when their guns are next.

Biden’s pandering is completely insulting to the intelligence of gun owners.
Don’t think they’re buying it for one second. Combined with the disingenuous carrying on by Obama and Biden, with the ‘pholksy’ dialects they put on while patronizing everyone on this issue, this issue alone will likely lose them the election.
It is so transparently insincere, it is nauseating.
I confess that I don’t understand the gun-banner’s mindset at all. How can they, ostensibly intelligent, rational people, put their brains on hold, and actually believe that any criminal who would be willing to threaten or kill his fellow man, would give a damn about a law forbidding carry, possession of any kind of lethal weapon.
Second amendment rights notwithstanding, if we think that we would have a snowballs chance of getting weapons “off the streets” let us examine our success in preventing the flow of thousands of tons of illegal drugs, and preventing the crossing of hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants.
Although Biden and Obama could never likely round up all the guns under their watch, they can and would do serious damage to this right, by relentless, incremental baby steps.
It would start with so-called semi automatic assault weapons, You know, the ones that are used in less than 1/10th of a percent of gun crime. (FBI uniform crime report). They are just ugly enough, and look menacing enough to be excellent target of a gun ban. Fact is, even an M16 fires a cartridge that isn’t nearly as devastating as a typical hunting round like a .308 or 30.06. But the average person doesn’t know this.
The majority opinion in Heller vs D.C. has re-affirmed Miller VS US, in the sense that the 2nd amendment specifically protects weapons that are suited for militia (read military) use, or weapons that are in common use at the time.
AK47s, M16/M4, Beretta 9 mm, etc are the most commonly used weapons of our time, and therefore, ought to be the most protected.
The compromise, in terms of “reasonable restrictions” is already in place: unless registered prior to 1986, civilian versions of these weapons are not fully automatic, requiring the trigger to be pulled once for each round fired.
There is very good reason to protect these weapons in particular. Part of the myriad of reasons our founders created the Second Amendment is so that the People would have an ultimate recourse against future tyranny. Candidates like Obama and Biden, with their cynical though thinly veiled attempts at duping the electorate, serve to highlight the wisdom of the founding fathers.
Sure, we won’t have outright gun confiscation a broad scale . . . right away. But until we draw a permanent line in the sand, and specifically codify the limits of government infringement in our courts and legislatures, me may depend on a relentless chipping away of this fundamental right to keep and bear until one day we will look up, and the right will have ceased to exist.

Biden is a complete liar. He brags that his one big accomplishment was railroading through the Clinton assault weapon ban of 1994. Like Sen. Feinstein, he only wants to keep HIS gun. But he wants to take yours. DC elietism.

Guess what? The president cannot decide to take your guns away! I’m a liberal and a gun owner — I’m not at all worried that my guns will be taken away by Obama. Get real people! Obama and Biden get my vote — one has a law degree and is an expert in constitutional law, and the other has a great deal of experience in foreign policy. McCain and Palin are truly an embarassment to the American people!

After Obama bans everyones guns, he can move to the next stage in his path to Utopia. Michelle’s universal mandatory volunteer (sic) public works program. Unconstitutional ?, not after he packs the Supreme Court with his cronies.

Don’t kid yourself. A president can’t change the 2nd amendment. However, there are 2 maybe 3 seats that will be opening up on the Supreme court in the next 4 yrs and the president will be the one to appoint them. Of course, Obama will appoint liberal Supreme court justices who can interpret the Constitution the way they see it. That means, they can say our fore fathers meant the 2nd amendment to mean only the military can bear arms, and make the sale of fire arms illegal.Just a few days ago, on C-SPAN the liberals in Congress were once again trying to place enough regulations on fire arms to cause another gun ban. As if they didn’t have enough to do, what with the failing economy, because of Democratic regulations put in place during the Clinton adm, and the Congress now ignoring the problem until it was too late, the energy crisis, etc, they are still talking about banning guns. No wonder the Democrat majority Congress has the worst approval rating in history!

Obama can say he is for guns, but he has already stated that his Supreme Courts picks will be so liberal that it will not matter.

Biden is downright strange. He veers from one extreme to the next and seems to get extremely agitated with very little provocation. I used to like this guy, but lately he kinda gives me the creeps. What’s up?

Should, heaven forbid, Obama-Biden somehow pull it off Nov 4, there will be a huge run on guns in this country starting Wed Nov 5. It will be a fantastic time to own a gunshot, and a fantastic time for little else in this once great nation. The effect of their gun control policies is for only the bad guys to have guns. They absolutely refuse to admit how many problems have been avoided by the mere brandishing of a gun, or the sound of a shotgun being readied for use. In their view of things, if trouble happens, as in Washington D.C., you will be asked to cower in your home with your trusty phone on 911 speed-dial. Good luck with that!

Obama says he is not responsible for what other people say. He also is not responsible for what he says himself as he changes his mind like on FISA. He took away your right to a private phone call.

Joe Biden the Patriot. Joe says, “It’s Patriotic to pay taxes.”, Joe says “He’s not gonna take away his guns”. Funny how Joe Biden the Patriot and Gun Lover, got FIVE (5) DEFERMENTS FROM BEING DRAFTED DURING THE VIETNAM WAR. After the FIVE (5) deferments, he got a Medical exemption because of “Teenage Asthma”, even though he played football in school and worked as a lifeguard. And he’s not patriotic enough to be charitable either. Less then 1,000 bucks in ten years. TAX AND SPEND will be their game. We will ALL GET TAXED ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. JUST LOOK AT THE HISTORY OF TAX AND SPEND LIBERALS.

jack burton– Actually, McCain voted along party lines only 88% of the time, but many have rounded that up to 90%. Rounding it up even further to imply he voted along party lines more than 95% of the time is just misleading. However, even that figure would have been less than Obama voting along party lines 97% of the time.
You meant this as a criticism of McCain, yet failed to apply it to Obama. It’s time to take an honest look at your candidate and see him for what he really is.
What is Obama? A twelve-year Constitutional law professor who believed the D.C. ban was constitutional and refused to sign the amicus brief requesting it be overturned. SCOTUS declared it to be unconstitutional and overturned it, only to have Obama say he has ALWAYS believed the Second Amendment to be an individual right. He was wrong, yet refused to admit it.
A man with only 143 working days under his belt as a Senator. You can’t work at McDonald’s and become district manager after 143 days, much less President of the company. As VP this argument would not be as strong, but he is not ready for the Presidency.
Time for an honest look people. Neither candidate is perfect, but the McCain/Palin ticket is the best choice on a number of different levels.

Looks like we have friction now between Obama and Biden. Bid isn’t to fond of Obamas policies now either. Obama says “we can find middle ground on guns”. His idea of middle ground on guns is “no guns”. It’s the same with the Dem lead congress on finding middle ground. It’s more like “do it our way or no way”. They don’t reach across the isle to anyone. That’s why you don’t see Pelosi and her bunch doing anything. Obama is the far left side and will create nothing but grid lock. Who else is going to turn on him. The Blacks have, the Jewish groups have, the Hillary party bailed out on him.

You know, I watched some of his town hall rallies and I get the same impression. The more he talks the more he sounds kind of paranoid or fanatical.

Another example of Joe Biden Pandering to the voters of America. He, like Mitt Romney probably only went hunting once in his life when he was a kid and now calls himself a gun lover.

As a Jewess in the US, I would like to remind everyone that criminals are stopped by FIREARMS, not by talk. And that America wasn’t won with a registered gun! That is why all REAL Americans put our 2nd Amendment FIRST!!

Biden talks about wanting to keep his little barreta (shot gun). Big Deal! what about his barreta handgun (if he’s got one) for home protection. It’s not sporting arms i’m worried about. It’s the home protection models that they want to take away…so the only one left having any real protection will be the criminal that knocks down your door. What about home protection arms, mr. president and v.p. hopefuls? Go ahead and reaasure us that you’ll make NO moves on the legality of keeping arms for home protection…the real reason we were guaranteed the proteciton encompassed by the 2nd amendment.

How bitter can you get?! Biden’s clinging to his gun…

According to MP – Ohio, “Obama says ‘we can find middle ground on guns’. His idea of middle ground on guns is “no guns”.
On what are you basing this “no guns” assumption? Perhapsyou are basing it on Obama’s 12-year stint as an ivy league professor lecturing on Constitutional law.
And Palin?!! Come on… She can shoot a moose and see Russia from her state so she has military and foreign policy experience? That’s a pretty far reach!

Obama’s history on the subject pretty well dooms him for the shooter/hunter vote.
Last year I worked and lived in China, this year it’s Japan and next year I’ll be in Thailand. The freedoms we still have left in the U.S. need to be protected (and expanded to more original levels. I’m having trouble coping with the lack of individual freedom here in Asia.
Having said that, I was in the U.S. for some meetings in July and made sure to stop and pick up another handgun. I’m headed back in October and will add an AR15 to one of the safes in my gun room.
It’s great when my 4 sons, 1 son-in-law and 7 grandsons hit the range. It might be even more fun when my wife, daughter, 3 daughters-in-law and two grand daughters go, but the best is when we are all there together, sharing hints on shooting and concealed carry.
Internationally, it seems that Obama is much more popular but when you talk to people here it’s because he’s more like the Socialist/Communist people they are used to being their rulers and many of them would ultimately like to see the U.S. weaker

It seems like most Americans care about one thing only: guns. Thank God I live overseas in one of those “less free” places in Asia, where handguns are banned, the murder rate is statistically zero, and men, women and children can walk the streets safe any time of day or night. All thanks to a total handgun ban.
I hope and pray that the Democrats finally do ram through some sort of gun control in the USA, at least starting the ball rolling toward sanity and peace.

I am glad that I can protect my children, if I ever have to, with my gun. I hope I NEVER have to use it. But I want to be able to, because the bad guys will always find a way to get guns, even if they are banned.

It doesn’t matter what they say!
Look at their voting record.
Obama and Biden are anti-gun extremists.
Anybody that believes differently is just not paying attention or is just plain stupid.
Biden could easily go to Chicago the next day and promise to ban everything all the way down to slingshots.
He will say anything to please the audience he has that particular day.

Uh, hey Julie…glad you are there and I’m here. You can keep your little “utopia” and ‘subject’ mindset.
This is still America for the time being where freemen have weapons. I pray it stays that way. I do intend to vote that way as well.

Biden tells a lie every time his mouth opens.
He owns no guns, he is my senator, and he works for two constiuetcies:
Trial Lawyers, Big money Banks.
Not you or I.
He told Katie Couric on live TV:
“When the stock market crashed Roosevelt went on TV and reassured the nation…”
One problem in 1929:
Hoover was persident.
TV didn’t exist other than as a lab experiment.
IS Joe that Dumb or did he just make obvious nonsense up because he thinks his audience is that dumb??

Ha, it didn’t take “President” Obama long to lie about that one did it? In the era of the internet it’s going to be a lot harder for these corrupt politicians to bury their past lies. Maybe that’s why they’re pushing so hard for the “Fairness Doctrine” in Talk Radio and online.

@nico said ” Asia, where handguns are banned, the murder rate is statistically zero”
Where is this? Lala land? Sound like a politician, just state something and hope everyone just assumes it’s correct. I should ignore you for your other assumption that most americans are “only” worried about guns. If you’re not here, don’t want to be here, why do you even care or make any assumptions at all?
