Palin-drome
"What is the McCain camp hiding?" asks Jeffrey Goldberg.
"If Sarah Palin becomes vice president, she will presumably have meetings with people who are scarier than Michael Cooper, the Times reporter who seems to have the misfortune of covering her today. I know Michael Cooper; he’s a good reporter, but not very mean at all. So, why would the McCain campaign want to keep him — and other print reporters — from watching Sarah Palin shake hands with Hamid Karzai, who is also, by the way, a very nice person? What will happen, God forbid, if Sarah Palin is forced into a position where she will have to meet someone who is not so nice? Such as, say, the prime minister of Spain?"
CNN’s Campbell Brown says she’s had it with the sexist, chauvinistic treatment of Sarah Palin — by the McCain campaign, which refuses to let Palin talk to the media, since they are apparently terrified she won’t be able to handle it.
"Stop treating Sarah Palin like she is a delicate flower that will wilt at any moment," Brown said. "Sarah Palin has just as much a right to be treated like a real candidate as the men do."

The McCain camp is probably fearing that the press will ask Palin a really difficult question like what day is it? McCain is making so many mistakes that they can’t let both candidates loose on the public. Of course this is all the liberal media’s fault. If they would agree to only publish fawning articles about her they would probably be given more access.

Lots of paper sreading, at the McCain Camp. Rick left pretty quickly, when he found out the FBI, was checking paper trails. Interesting.

McCain should lose the election on this point alone. Not for having nominated her – I used to think that – but for shielding her in this absurd way from any honest coverage in the press and for the unbelievable disrespect this shows to the American public. SHE’S RUNNING FOR THE SECOND HIGHEST OFFICE IN THE LAND. Moreover, she started from a position where we knew less about her. They owe it to every voter to make her accessible to the public, or this whole election is a sham and a fraud.
Barack Obama and Joe Biden can’t say this because of how it would be regarded, but some other prominent Democrats need to step up, have the courage of their convictions, and say MCCAIN AND PALIN ARE RUNNING THIS CAMPAIGN LIKE SNAKE OIL SALESMEN. NO ONE SHOULD BELIEVE THEM. IF THIS IS HOW THEY RUN A CAMPAIGN HOW WILL THEY RUN THE COUNTRY?

I’m sorry the MSm was completely vicious to palin and her family. You all continue to twist and distort and negatively report anything in her record, her achievements and any offhand comment anyone wants to make abouther. The press has no credibility when it comes to Palin. Obama’s dubious associations have been all but ignored. I live hundreds of miles from Chicago and knew all about Wright his ties to Lybia his hatred and Obama’s support of him and his ministry 6 months before the MS would touch it. How about that Edwards affair, which was real and does involve a child that you all ignored. But Sarah Palin’s daughter gains some weight and the “investigative journalism” just can’t stop. Her achievements by the way are numerous, unlike mr obama who haas done esentially nothing but run for President and bully people Chicago style his entire political career, never once challenging corruption in governemtn or his own party.
The press doesn’t deserve to interview Palin. Good for her. Good for the McCain camp. Do some real reporting on Obama and his past and his ties and maybe she will.

I hate to burst your bubble Pat, but it’s not the media. They’re used to NOT getting their way, but having politicians whine through the media of how bad the media treats them. The reason the politicians whine is because they can’t totally control the message when the media gets involved. The media (and I don’t include Fox here) asks sometimes hard questions about policy and issues, things that really affect Americans. Most American’s understand this, but there are a few who are so into the 10-sec sound bite and labels that they miss the message and blindly go through life without a clue about what is really happening to this country and the world. Not all of those people are Republican; however, it does seem that they whine the loudest and use the most cliches.

RFK, Jr.: “Let me tell you about one other of these scams people should know about. If you’re a newly registered voter – and of course the Democrats have done these gigantic registration drives – 12 million people on registration – if you’re a new voter you MUST include your license or some other state I.D. when you come to vote. What that means is that if you’re a college kid (and college kids now – they’re sending in absentee ballots – they’re not going to the voting place, they do everything online or they do everything remotely – they don’t dream of going to the precinct house voting on election day and waiting in a long line) so if they send in the absentee ballot and they don’t include a color copy of their license their vote is going to be thrown into a trash can. And none of these people know this because you have had to read the law in order to know it. So there is no notification for when you fill out your registration form, so all of those 12 million people that the Democrats have registered: those ballots are going to be just thrown out.

Pat,
It is not average Americans that love seeing the Press this way, it is the rich, upper class People that got richer on Tax Payers’ sweats in these past seven years that are having fun at our expense.
An average and Intelligent American wants to know what his/her Leader has in stock for her.
An average American wants her concerns about the Economy addressed.
An average American wants a decent tenement to rest his/her head after a hard day’s work.
An average America wants to know whether his/her PFI and 401k will be of value by the time he/she needs to access the funds.
An average American wants his/her concerns about the senseless War in Iraq and hitherto neglected war in Afghanistan addressed.
An average American knows the times are precarious and this election is for the redemption of the Soul of America.
An average American knows that the stakes are high and it is a season of make or mare.
An average American wants his/her Leader to be accessible to attend to his/her worries.
An average American is not stupid and hence, can’t be taken for a ride – though Politicians treat us as if we are Morons.
An average American is sick and tired of the gag order on Sarah Palin.
An average American is angry that the Press is handling this issue with Kids’ gloves.
An average American deserves to know all that is necessary about a Woman who may become the defacto President of the United States of America within the next four years.

—————-
Those same “average Americans” voted for George Bush – TWICE! The collective judgement of this demographic is highly questionable.
The rest of us (who I guess by your standards are above average – thanks) EXPECT OUR POTENTIAL LEADERS TO ANSWER QUESTIONS. It is our RIGHT, and DUTY, as citizens to ask questions of our leaders. Cracks me up that Republicans are always waving flags, speaking in patriotic platutudes, and talking about “freedom” when they obviously don’t even know what it means.
Hiding from reporters simply makes Palin look weak, unprepared, and pathetic. She may not be at all, but how would we ever know?
Our current administration has taken away more civil liberties than any in over half a century. Looks like McCain/Palin want to continue that course by claiming the public is not entitled to ask questions.
Awe. Is the press mean? What BS. It’s obvious the Republican party is simply AFRAID to let her speak. As long as she says nothing, they don’t have to keep explaining “what she really meant” like they did after her first interview.
I hope the leaders of places like N Korea, Russia, Iran are eally nice to Sarah Palin. Hate to think they might hurt her feelings.

Does it really make any difference if the Press is happy? No, not in any way.
Since all of the major media have decided that they want Obama and the democrats to run the country it makes no since for McCain or Palin to cater to them, since they will do everything possible to make sure that the lose.
You might invite the enemy to your camp, but you don’t have to be nice to them. And that is what the media is to republicans.

Anybody that was in High School debate team will know that Debates are not the best test of one’s knowledge.
The Candidates/debaters are tutored by experts on how best to handle the debates. Anybody that is good at Public Speaking will do fine in any debate.
The good test of a Candidates reading is for the the Campaigns to organize a Press Conference where Journalists, irrespective of their employers political leaning, are allowed to ask questions in a no-holds-barred fashion.
A Structured debate in which the Candidates have been given likely areas of concentration is like a circus and it can’t be taken seriously.

Take a look at your history lessons. When Hitler came to power, some of the first people sent to concentration camps or killed were newspaper editors, reporters, ministers, priests, or anyone who questioned or spoke out on the policies of the government. A free, and questioning press is a must for a democracy. Power has a tendancy to corrupt, as we have seen over and over, not only in government but in the business world. Sometimes the press is overly aggressive but better this than no questions asked. The press keeps those in power accountable.

If I may educate you a bit.
Holders of public offices are accountable to the People in a true democracy.
The People has the right to ask and the public office holder is compelled by the tenets of democracy to respond.
It is the Citizens right and it is inalienable.
She lost the right to her privacy the day she put hersef forward as the Mayoral Candidate of Wasilla.
It is only in a dictatorship that Citizens don’t have the rights to ask.
That was the case in Africa during Military Dictatorship.
You choose, a Society without the Press, a voiceless Press or a Press that will vet public Officers and subsequently hold them to their Campaign promises even if they have to constitute a nuisance in the process.
I need your sincere answer on these.

indithinker, You are right, McCain has shown sexism, by not letting her speak on her own. He has an advisor, that was money laudering Fannie Mae funds until last month. He fought against gun owners for the last 12 years and only this year flip-flopped on them. He would rather continue reaping from Oil companies, than help Middle America get away from Oil. He will not allow another staff member return her millions from ther Morgage companies, because she’s nice. He does not support our young childern at an early age. He will not stand up to the republicans, to help americans, only foreign oil companies, that benifit the MOST from his High class Tax cuts. He will not help bring our sons and daughters home from overseas. He prefers to stall them for one hundred years, so capitolists, can steal Iraqi oil. Oh Yes McMulti face has a lot to answer for. Thank God, the FBI is looking into it though.
I am glad the FBI has already examined Obama. Though the country has a few more questions for him, Alaska is now asking Palin, what about the debt she left them. The unfinished promises. The coruption of Todds dealings with official meeting. The hush money the current Senator is being paid to take a fall. Why is she still, thinling about supporting him for his next election. The road to nowhere, she could have stopped, to reconstruct drainage and roads, where they would have done some good. Why did she put her Babies life in danher to give a speech. Infection and suffocation could take place if not monitored properly. And Bidens Bridge that does not really need rebuilt.

Middle America loves Sarah Palin and distrusts the MSM. Some of us are actually getting a kick out of her treatment of the press. She told you, “(H)ere’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion – I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country.” She meant it.
The question you need to ask youself is this, “If something happens to Joe Biden, is Barack Obama qualified to be VP?”

Wake up people, remember what Jefferson said “‘If I had to choose between democratic government without a free press or just a free press, I would just choose the press.’”

Harry,
Ayers, the man People like you call an unrepentant Terrorist only carried out symbolic bombing of Government locations to protest the unpopular Vietnam War then.
Nobody, not even an animal was injured in those symbolic bombings.
That was the 22 year Old and exuberant Bill Ayers.
Obama was 8 years old then and he was in Indonesia.
The Bill Ayers of today is a Professor of Education at the University of Chicago and he has done more that many of you so called proud-Americans, to lift the poor and down-trodden in Chicago.
It was in the course of his Social works that he met with Barack Obama.

Wikipedia-Alaskan Independance Party
[edit] Registered members
As of June 2006 the Alaskan Independence Party has 13,542 registered members, making it the state’s third largest party, behind the Republicans with 111,526 and the Democrats with 66,218.[5]
On September 2, 2008, the Associated Press reported that the Alaska Division of Elections said that Todd Palin, the husband of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, had registered as a member of the Alaskan Independence Party in 1995 and 2000; he no longer is registered as a member of the party, having registered as “undeclared” since 2002.[6] Sarah Palin was never a member of the Alaska Independence Party according to a statement released by AIP chairman Lynnette Clark on September 3, 2008[7]. Clark had the day earlier stated that Sarah Palin was a member, and attended the 1994 AIP Convention, but retracted her statement the following day, affirming that she was mistaken.[8].

@s.b. “The press doesn’t deserve to interview Palin. ”
In that case, she surely doesn’t “deserve” to be VP. The post of VP is that of a servant of the people, not a beauty contest, and not an entitlement. The press represents the people, and asks the questions we can’t get close enough to ask her.

Maybe one day some of you expressing glee at the press’ concern at not being able to question Ms Palin, will actually get to live in a country where the press is completely muzzled. Dare Nigeria, are you aware that in 1970, William Ayers’ girlfriend at the time along with two members of the Weatherman were killed while constructing a bomb that was intended to be detonated at a dance being held at Fort Dix? Hundreds of lives could have been lost! William Ayers in describing what could have taken place he said, “tearing through windows and walls and, yes, people too.”
This is a man that to this day wishes they could have done more bombings. It has been reported that his mantra was “Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, Kill your parents.”
This is a man whose ideology has never changed. Now instead of bombing buildings to make his point, he preaches the same radical anti-America, anti-capitalism dogma from his position as a professor at the University of Illinois, Chicago. And Chicago Mayor Daley employed him as a teachers trainer for the public schools in Chicago. He indoctrinates the teachers who are in turn expected to influence their students with his radical views.
To this day we do not know just how extensive Sen. Obama’s relationship has been with William Ayers.
But what we do know is that for five years (1975-1979) Sen. Obama’s mentor and “father figure” was Frank Marshall Davis, a Communist Party USA agitator and recruiter. We also know that Sen. Obama studied under the principals of Saul Alinsky, another communist; was mentored by the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. for 20 years, a Black Liberation theologist; and associated with other individuals who espouse anti-America and anti-capitalist views over the years.
Is it just pure happenstance that Sen. Obama came into contact with these individuals? OR is the old cliche in play here–Birds of a feather flock together!

Pawal1,
They should go to Africa and see how “good” it is when the Press is Muzzled.
A Television Station was shut in my biological Country for reporting the resignation of the President who has been ailing since he got into Office.
Some Staffers of the Television Station were arrested and kept for more than 24 hours in defiant to the tenet of habeas Corpus.
That is what happens when you practice a pseudo Democracy.
Just yesterday, Staffers of the Presidency were administered with oath of Secrecy to gag them from talking to the Press.
That is what happens in Africa. But it is unthinkable for it to be suggested by some in the United States of America.
By the time the Press is put in fetters and gagged in America, then Press will definitely be put in Shackles and Gallows in Africa.
The World is looking for Leadership in America and it breaks their hearts to see what is happening in America presently.

Posted by: James Danley | September 24, 2008, 12:17 pm 12:17 pm
James Danley,
Your post shows exactly what is not so right about present day American thought.
It is a great, great shame that people in America (land of the free and home of the brave) are being alienated for IDEAS.
Your way of calling out “anti-Americans and anti-Capitalists” sounds eerily like the great INQUISITION when people were persecuted under outrageous charges. Capitalism is not the alpha and omega of how-to-run-this-world. It is a human-made idea just like communism is and, believe it or not, they both have their goods and ills.
Don’t go down the dangerous road of adhering to just one idea or one way of thought. That, in case you haven’t noticed, is how extremism is born. It behooves you (especially as an American) to think critically about these generic terms before traveling down that path when the rest of the world is actually catching up to the notion that the my-way-or-the-high-way way of life doesn’t pay well.

Question, I notice that you failed to quote Sen. Obama as having denied that he was ever recruited by Frank Marshall Davis. Nor did you quote Sen. Obama as having denied that he was ever a member of the CPUSA.
The facts are: (1) Frank Marshall Davis was a member and a recruiter of the CPUSA; (2) Sen. Obama has acknowledged that Frank Marshall Davis (although Obama only names him “Frank” in his book) was a father figure and a mentor; (3) Saul Alinsky was a communist; (4) Sen. Obama studied under the principles of Saul Alinsky; (5) Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr is a Black Liberation Theologist; (6) Sen. Obama acknowledges that he was a member of Rev. Wright’s church for 20 years, and says that Rev. Wright was his mentor.
America do your homework. Google “CPUSA” and see what they believe (and compare that to Sen. Obama’s rhetoric). Google “Saul Alinsky” and see what his principles are (and compare them to what Sen. Obama says and does). Google “Black Liberation Theology” and see what they espouse (and then determine for yourself whether a man can sit there for 20 years and not hold some of these beliefs as his own).

Why on earth should McCain trust the mainline press with anything or anyone? They were blantantly biased – and sexist – against Hillary and now they COMPLETLY IGNORE certain stories ALREADY related to Palin. Why aren’t the following stories headlined as “Top News” by the mainline press today?:
*All signs point to state Dem. rep’s son as Palin ‘hacker’ – State Rep. Mike Kernell confirmed Thursday that his son, a University of Tennessee-Knoxville student, is at the center of heated Internet discussion into the hacking of the personal e-mail of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin
*Tenn. Dem. Steve Cohen: Jesus was a community organizer and Palin is Pontinus Pilate: the governor who killed Jesus!!
*Greta Interviews the “First Dude” (Todd Palin)
Have you even heard of any of these stories yet????? Why should McCain – or any of us – trust such selective, biased, pro-Obama reporting?????
Posted by: gaypastor | September 24, 2008, 3:37 pm 3:37 pm
Its not being sexist, the Republicans are just scared the truth will come out, she is not experienced, she lies a lot about troopergate/the bridge/earmarks. She appointed her high school friends who like her had zero experience to top jobs in Alaska. She has no clue about the economy or about foreign policy, all she knows is to make babies and shoot wolves from helicopters

Let’s be real, we can’t blame McCain for being as scared of Obama as all the rest of us are, even if he is a war hero. Obama is smart and popular and cool under fire. But the most terrifying thing of all is that he’s not a good ol’ boy. We’re desperately hoping this strategy of keeping the Palin/McCain ticket shielded from the press as much as possible will conceal their obvious weaknesses long enough that the fear of Obama will carry them through to victory. We’re really afraid it’s their only hope…

John McCain wants to postpone Friday’s Presidential debate because “our economy is in crisis.” Ya right last week he said the economy was fundamentally strong.
This is one of the nastiest and most cynical political stunts/trick ever attempted in American political history.
Despicable and shameless act from McCain hope the media gives him hell for this cheap trick. Imagine if Obama had tried this!

Mrs Palin, as even right-wing America is now admitting, is like a helium balloon: sparkly, shiny, able to fly high for a couple of days — but essentially empty.
They are keeping her in a shroud for fear that she will reveal just how monumentally unqualified she is to become President — which is, after all, the Vice-President’s only real job.
In my life I have never seen anyone so hidden from the media, unscripted questions, and public scrutiny as Mrs Palin. Even Dan Quayle, another disastrous choice, was allowed out more often — and that is saying a good deal.
