Palin Takes Questions at a McCain Town Hall

Sarah Palin has a LOT more going for her than the TOP of the ticket for the Democrats. The media has been playing softball for more than a year with Obama but started playing hardball with Palin from day one after her name was announced by John McCain. There’s been a media double-standard to say the least!

Actually, it’s not the mainstream press that’s been tough on Palin. It’s a few tabloids and bloggers. The press has pretty much given her a free ride, focusing on mooseburgers and lipstick, instead of foreign policy and sex education.

Once again she answers nothing! Same rehearsed lines over and over. I find it hard to believe that anyone could think she is ready to be in the White HOuse. Mccain looks older and crankier every day and she sounds more ridiculous. I can’t wait to see the “love fest” when she’s on with Sean Hannity.

I totally disagree with the softball with Obama. How long was Wright in the news? How often do they bring up Ayers even though Obama barely knows him? The reason they played hardball with Palin is that no one really knew her at all. They sparks curiosity and interest to figure out who she is. Thus, they looked into her past and background.

I didn’t hear those voices several months ago when Hillary Clinton was in the picture.

When she was mayor, Wasilla was the only town in Alaska to charge rape victims for the cost of their rape evidence collection kits. Just look at the answers she gave. It doesn’t take a “Rocket Scientist” to figure out that she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. However, she is apparently good at memorizing things that she has been told to say!
With her as VP the U.S. will be the laughing stock of the world. It’s bad enough that we’ve had to contend with Bush. Talk about jumping from the frying pan into the fire!

JUDGEMENT – McCain PICKED AN INTERN INSTEAD OF A VP CANDIDATE.
The people asking the questions were votors not the press. That will not happen again.

Over the past eight years, the U.S. economy has created just 5 million new jobs, a number that is falling daily. The median income of American households has declined. Airports, bridges and roads are decaying. Rural wind-power facilities cannot light cities because our electrical grid has not been expanded. New Orleans has not been rebuilt. And as productive activity within the United States has ceased to be the prime target of investment, household consumption — more commonly known as shopping — has come to comprise more than 70 percent of our economy.

In too long eight years bush has done what he has done to anything he has been involved with, destroyed it. Now you have the chance to continue his legacy four more with two more fools. Mac has voted for bushs policies ninety five percent of the time and palin has voted for herself one hundred percent of the time. four more would surely finish planet earth. four more of bush policy, go get it.

I’m glad Sarah Palin is being given the opportunity to speak in public about issues we all care about. The press needs to press all of the candidates on the issues and their opinions on those issues in order for us to make a rational decision.
When I compare the intellectual horse power of the McCain-Palin ticket to the Obama-Biden ticket it looks to me like we would be much better off with the Obama-Biden brain and intellectual capacity in the White House (given the complexities of the problems we face – 7 trillion dollar federal deficit, close to 50 million with no health care, etc..).
I’m concerned about McCain’s decision making and judgement when he suggests the economy is on solid ground in one speech and then, later the same day, suggests we are in an economic crisis??? I’m also concerned about Palin’s intellectual capacity – she attended five small colleges before finally graduating? Joe Lieberman would have been a much more responsible and appropriate choice.

Being a WOMAN is Sarah Palin’s best qualification in that area.

They are going to sell the oil overseas–not keep it here! What a crock. This party has sold the AMerican public on this flase notion that drilling offshore will make us immediately independent, when in reality it will be 20-30 years before we get any real output, and even then the financial impact will be a few cents/gallon at best. This is the GOP’s energy? To once again do the bidding of the oil companies–the only people who are doing well as everyone else fails! The GOP is pathetic.

You know, I am truly terrified as to what will happen if Palin has to take over as President. Say what you like about Obama but he CAN give a direct answer, or if you don’t believe that, he is familiar with foreign policy and has detailed out what positions he takes. Palin, on the other hand, did not even recognise the word Bush Doctrine, or even if she didn’t know what it was, didn’t even recognise that it was a POLICY (his worldview?). And likely hasn’t been reading the papers or relying on very faulty intelligence: Russia started the conflict in South Ossetia.

McCains campaign is made up of two factions.
The ones who believe our economy “is fundamentally strong”,
and the fundamentalists, who never vote on anything related to economic issues, but will fall over themselves to vote for anyone who is a Christian and not a democrat.

No, what some of us are concerned is that she doesn’t seem to understand anything about foreign policy or that extends beyond energy. Obama, Biden and McCain are better versed in that.
The problem is that Palin MAY have to take over, and she’s clearly unprepared.
Surely you do not hold such low standards of your supported candidate to think that she “at least” did not make a gaffe? Even then, I’m not too sure. Bush Doctrine? Seeing Russia from Alaska? Russia attacked Georgia unprovoked? Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are US govt agencies?

Gov. Palin would have to demonstrate the wisdom of Solomon before ABC News and other major media would indicate their approval of her answers. In this instance, I submit that her answers were at least as specific as we get from Barack Obama on the same subjects.

One question I have reading this story – a lot of these town halls the actual “voters” are pre-selected so as not to get anyone in the crowd who may ask tough questions. Does anyone know if they are still doing that – do you have to be a republican to get into the town hall meeting or ask a question?

Because he has actually been in the State Senate for 8 years, and then the US Senate till now. Taught Constitutional law, sat on the Senate foreign policy committee. And when interviewees ask Obama questions on foreign policy and the economy, he can give clear answers as to what he’ll do.
And the congressional district Obama represented in the Illinois state senate had more people than Alaska, let alone the whole state of Illinois itself. Plus Obama has Biden to lend his experience and expertise.
Palin has not even studied Constitutional law. She has not even familiarized herself with foreign policy. Her niche areas are ANWR, energy, getting polar bears shoved off the endangered species list, hunting and abortion. Beyond that, she stumbles.
At McCain’s age and health, he may not be able to finish his term, and who has to take over?

This man has avoided answering any questions of real importance for the last 19 months. He has no record of accomplishment while being senator. Gender should not enter the decision making process at all. Neither should race, age, sexual orientation, or religious preference. That sounds consititutional. If however, we practiced it – the slanderous ads, divisive tactics, and personaltiy preference would not occur, because it would not work.

Sarah is a breath of fresh air on the American political trail. Most of us are sick of canned answers that politicians give. She says what she knows and believes. OBAMA TRIED TO STALL GIS’ IRAQ WITHDRAWAL
WHILE campaigning in public for a speedy withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Sen. Barack Obama has tried in private to persuade Iraqi leaders to delay an agreement on a draw-down of the American military presence.
According to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July.

You really need to learn how to read nosomething. Palin favors letting Georgia in NATO. When asked if she would be willing to go to war if Russia invaded Georgia, she said that is what the NATO compact calls for (I guess the newsman couldn’t read or doesn’t understand was a mutual defense pact is).
What I’ve found is the Lefties are fairly ignorant of history, but seeing the comments here I would add current affairs to what they are ignorant of.

NATO is actually intended to serve more as a deterrence. And you DO NOT hypothesize a nuclear war. The problem is from the way she sounded, even if she didn’t intend it, sounded pretty aggressionist. And that’s not helpful when you’re trying to stop another Cold War.
And it’s certainly not a whole “just ONE attack and we automatically go to war”. No one is too eager to die from the nuclear fallout yet.

Assuming that Islamic extremism is because there’re just some evilevil people who just hate America is simplistic. There are a variety of reasons. In Iraq, it’s because of the mess the US has made of their countries. In Iran, it’s because of the CIA’s machinations in the 1960s-70s that brought down a democratically elected man who could have been prime minister and put the Reza Shah, the dictator, back in power.
The list goes on. You have to talk to Iran some time or another to solve things peacefully. You don’t have to give in to them, you just need to get to know what the problems are.

I believe, from reading these posts, that I am the most unbiased person that reads ABC.com.

Both the Far left and Far right are both Far out of touch. Liberal left want to look for change in the Present and Future. Conservative right want to keep things in check, and not change traditions. So McCain and Palin sound like Liberals as well as Obama and Biden. All canidates want change. Look up Liberal and Conserative if you do not know what they mean.

US needs to overhaul its Presidential candidate qualifying process. In this country every legitimate profession requires a license, and the way to obtain such license is to pass a board exams. Therefore, ALL PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES SHOULD TAKE A BOARD EXAM (including topics such as Foreign Affairs, Economy, Security, Constitution, Social Works) BEFORE THEY CAN BE NOMINATED BY THEIR PARTY. THIS WILL ENSURE THE QUALIFICATION OF THE CANDIDATES FOR THE JOBS. This is my serious thought and idea. If this is implemented 8 years ago, we would not have the international crisis and domestic financial disaster today.

She said stump the candidate. She’s been trying to stump the voters and the investigation in Alaska. She has a good stump speech, but no substance or details and Senator Hegel was honest in describing her lack of background in foreign policy (and he’s a Republican and was a strong backer of McCain in 2000). The question that needs to be answered is whether she is as dumb as a stump. And we still need to see the tax returns and it would be nice to know how she did academically in getting her degree which has been disclosed for the other candidates.

Folks, this isn’t looking good for us. First McCain says the economy is sound, and now his poll numbers are tanking. Then someone on his staff says that he nor Sarah could run a business, and now they are hacking into Sarah’s private email. Too many things are going wrong, we can lose this election unless things start turning around for us. Does McCain have the right staff working for him? I mean, how can they keep making these mistakes? Did you see where McCain was trying to give a speech at a GM plant yesterday and people kept calling out Obama’s name? This is what I mean, does his staff have a clue, and why would they put him in situations like that, are they trying to throw the election?

Now that she badly screwed up the very first interview with Charles Gibson and showed she is not ready for VP position (even according to conservative columnists like David Brooks), the Palin effect started fading off. People now know how trustworthy she is because she said to Gibson that she didn’t blink an eyelid when asked to be a VP, and she said to Hannity that she accepted the proposal only after her 5 kids voted for it. Add to this the trooper gate and other skeletons coming from her cupboard. There will be a negative bounce, for sure!

So Palin is an average american. Umm, well so am I and I can’t afford a $2500 jacket she wore at the convention.

I have bad news for all of you, with all of the “out of control spending” that the repubs have been doing over the last 8 years, our taxes will be going up to pay for the 10 trillion dollar debt. As a veteran of the gulfwar, It makes sense what Obama is saying. Stop taking a small bit of the news and making an stupid arguement. What the article is saying, is not to rush into any agreement with bush because he lied in the first place for the war to take affect. How do you know he is not doing something under the noses of congress. Don’t you think it makes sense to wait and get a detailed plan together to get our men and women home safely. I dont know about you, but I don’t want another bush agreement in place, we have suffered long enough.

We need to work more with solar, hydro and wind energies, for cleaner fuel sources. And get away from as much oil as possible. Anybody see how much run off, is produced by oil by products. They are shown to cause autism and other birth defects. people used to swim in rivers and lakes, but more and more are becoming polluted. At least Obama has an agenda to support these sources. Just one more reason I leaned towards Obama and Biden. McCain finally says ‘yea, we’ll use those too.’ After Obamas platform was sounding clearer.

You know, “J.Kline”, I noticed the same, though my impression was McCain supporters were having the most difficulty with their grammar, sentence structure, and spelling.
Take your post:
1. The sentence structure and spelling by those on here trying to cast doubt and despair to everyone leaves a lot to be desired.
In the above sentence, the idiom “to cast doubt” should be followed by the preposition “on” as in, “to cast doubt on someone’s knowledge of English grammar”.
2. Spelling: You start the subsequent sentence by misspelling the word “Especially”. You write it “Specially”. There is no such word.
3. The sentence you start with the misspelled “specially”, is a sentence fragment.
Every sentence needs a subject and a predicate.
ex:
Wrong: And for days tried to change my mind. (no subject)
Right: For days he/she/it tried to change my mind.

I did a quick Google search and came up with various articles on our supplies of natural gas…none mentioned Russia as one of those sources.
My impression is that the vast majority of our natural gas is supplied by domestic or regional producers.
Here is an article from an academic publication “The International Economy”, published on 01-JAN-06 (so the info may be a little outdated).
In the article the author asserts:
“Most of the lost natural gas supply cannot be replaced with additional imports. The United States receives natural gas from three sources: DOMESTIC PRODUCTION (81 percent of supply), IMPORTS FROM CANADA (16 percent of supply), and IMPORTS OF LIQUIFIED NATURAL GAS (3 percent of supply).”
According to this, in 2006 Russia could – at most – have been supplying the United States 3% of our supply of natural gas.
How do you conclude that “RUSSIA SUPPLIES MOST OF OUR NATURAL GAS”? This claim seems to fly in the face of available statistics.

She wasn’t even asked for foreign policy specifics. No one wanted to ‘stump’ her. The lady who asked the question, and is an independent who described herself as ‘giving Palin a chance to show her critics’, asked her to describe her skills. I could have answered better, and I am a democrat. Talk about your journalism degree, your experience following and critically assessing foreign events, your vast knowledge of the topics, your personal committment to the war with your son sent to Iraq! Anything! Instead, she gives her fluff answer and continues to sink her and McCain in the polls.

Is the entire womenkind (ok atleast 50% of them) really wanted Palin to represent them ? Are those 50% dumber than Palin? I cannot believe this is happening in America, the Superpower.

The only real thing that Obama has going for him to be president is that his ears are so big that he could just stick his head out of the Oval Office and hear any terrorist cell phone chatter whithout having to get permission from the courts. I have voted republican the last 10 elections because I favored less government and less taxes. I also liked Mccain during his 26 yearsin Congress because of what he stood for. Now he seems to be changing his beliefs to appeal to a larger audience. I am not voting for anybody this year.

I have also noticed that there is a flag lapel pin MIA. Sen. McCain has stopped wearing his, after the big stink was made about Sen.Obama not wearing his. Sen. McCain, being from a military backround and a former POW, must find it very hard wearing the lapel pin while lying. I believe his respect for the flag is the issue.

That is the sum of his foreign experience, and he is the top of the Democratic ticket.
I love how now CINC of the National Guard in Alaska is ridiculous. All of this is based on the premise that John McCain, who has released a 1000 page medical report, is going to kick the bucket while in office. Sarah Palin also worked out a trade deal with Canada for the $36 billion natural gas pipeline that brings our country closer to energy independence. That was a pretty big deal.

The author is definitely slanted against Palin: for example, the author states that Palin gave a “non-answer” on how she would ensure that the U.S. would keep new oil. However, the answer was clear: The congress would have to act to set limits on exports – there’s simply nothing a vice president can do to ensure this. ABC has gone back to it’s true nature.

The problem with all of these statistics that compare deaths in City X with deaths in Iraq over the same period of time is that ALL of the deaths in Iraq are not being included…just U.S. combat deaths. What about the Iraqis? What about deaths of troops from other countries (very low, since there are few)? Furthermore, consider that the U.S. combat deaths are involving soldiers and marines who are walking around well-armed and armored, often in armored vehicles, and surrounded by other such armed/prepared/trained troops. The average person walking around the dangerous areas of Chicago has no such protection.
A more legitimate comparison would be comparing the deaths of police officers/firefighters/DEA agents, etc. in a given city in the U.S. with the deaths of U.S. troops in Iraq, over the same period of time.
