Why does this article not note that it was the husband of one of McCains advisors that snuck Palins appearance into the rally. They didn’t even consult the rest of the rally leaders before extending the offer. So who’s playing politics with this event here? This is typical of the McCain camp. Iran’s government would not give nuclear weapons or other WMDs to terrorist groups. It jsut does not make sense. Terrorist are NOT trustworthy.
Now WMDs could fall into the terrorist’s hands from Iran, that’s a legitimate concern, but Ahmadinejad would not give them on purpose.

it’s pretty scary to see the way the Republican ticket is racketing their rhetoric.
Not very long ago, even the US intelligence services acknowledged that Iran is nowhere near to producing a nuclear weapon. But that doesn’t stop them from making such outlandish claims. I don’t think there is a single person in the West would take lightly the possibility of a second Holocaust. This shouldn’t even be part of a political rhetoric. You have to wonder who is actually politicizing this issue.

He really plays this up and I think that some actually see his point. It’s one thing to have U.S. citizens at a protest rally; but to have a Presidential/Vice Presidential candidate show up says a whole lot about what you think of diplomacy. The current administration refuses to have direct, high-level talks with Iran without pre-conditions. Yet, just last week I think I was that five former Secretary of States met and I also think they agreed that we should have direct talks with Iranian leadership without pre-conditions. If Palin were to show up at this event with Hillary she might have gone second on the speaking platform and then echoed what Hillary said. If she were to show up alone and have to speak she might say something stupid and even have to answer questions. If the Obama campaign caused Palin to get disinvited, then McCain should be thanking them; not criticizing. Palin has practically no foreign policy or diplomatic skills for this big stage. Yet she will probably be the next VP one heartbeat away from the presidency. I don’t wish any misfortune on McCain but if he should go down, we are in trouble with Palin in charge. A presidential candidate’s VP selection is like leaving a last will and testament to the American people. I think his decision to “Will” us Sarah Palin says alot. He doesn’t care as much about the future of America as he states and certainly he doesn’t care enough about our future without him if something happens to him. His Will to his family doesn’t matter because his wealth is really his wife’s anyways. I hope Obama wins; at least he was wise enough to “Will” us someone who could step in on day one. When will Palin face the media alone? Hasn’t she crammed enough for the examination? America needs to get to know her. Unfortunately for her, this maintaining a low profile could lead us to believe that she is hiding something other than what’s already come out in the news. She needs to face her own problems head on so that America will know that she has the will to face ours.

I wish people would stop slinging mud at each other and give long and careful thought to which candidate they will vote for. No single candidate is going to be 100% what you want. All we can do is to try hard to get all the facts we can and vote with our conscience. I am especially upset at the lack of class of the right-wingers who spread false e-mails about Obama. I think their real problem is that he is black. I also didn’t think I would ever like Hillary Clinton, as she is a liar from the get-go, yet Palin makes her look like a class act. Please sit back and look at which candidate addresses the issues in a thoughtful way, and which candidate(s) spend their time attacking their opponents. In my opinion, Obama will say he disagrees with McCain over an issue, but he does not stoop to attacking either McCain or Palin personally. Yet the Republicans seem to think it is okay to question Obama’s patriotism, etc. Obama has never been a Muslim, yet right-wing so-called Christians try to make us think he is tainted by that. All I see is a man who believes that we need a different direction, that it is better to talk first and find common ground wherever possible before getting out the guns. What is so wrong with that? Many of you on here have talked about high taxes, etc. and blamed that on the Democrats. What about the trillions of dollars this war is costing us every month? Our last Democrat president had a balanced budget and a surplus, and the Republicans have pissed that away and gotten us further in debt than ever before. I am no fan of Bill Clinton, either, but I have to admit that we were in better shape when he was President than we have been since. I personally believe in smaller government, and used to consider myself a Republican. However, I can see that the Republican party currently stands for the rich getting richer while people like us struggle. They have allowed most of our manufacturing jobs go overseas, and that used to be the backbone of our economy. The so-called “Service Economy” won’t cut it. You try to raise a family on what a retail job pays. Our country is in real trouble. I don’t presume to have all the answers, but to me it makes sense that it is time to try something different. It sure wouldn’t hurt to have a President who wants to work things out diplomatically whenever possible instead of jumping into ill-advised wars. I am 50 years old and I believe this is the most important election of my lifetime so far. Whichever candidate you support, instead of spending time attacking the other candidate, why not spend time learning as much as you can about both sides so that you can make the best-informed decision you can come November? This isn’t really about either candidate personally. It’s about what type of government you feel would be best for America at this time. It is our chance to use our priviledge of voting responsibly and thoughtfully, and trying to set aside prejudice and mud-slinging to reach the kind of decision we each feel is best. For the first time in my life I feel that we have a chance to live up to our promise as Americans to have freedom and justice for ALL. As long as the office of the presidency can only be held by priviledged white males, we are not living up to that promise. If you are against Obama simply because of his color, I hope that you can examine your conscience and really decide if that is a viable way of thinking. Senator Obama is a very intelligent, well-educated man with good family values, who decided on community service instead of making big bucks as a lawyer. He understands our Constitution in a way most Presidents and presidential candidates have not. I would rather have him with his lack of experience, than someone who feels we should be constantly fighting wars, even if Senator McCain does have more political experience. I also notice that Obama chose a very experienced VP candidate in Biden, who shares his family values. If he just wanted to win, he would have chosen Clinton, because that would have pretty much have guaranteed a win. As a side note, I can’t believe that McCain couldn’t find a Republican female more qualified than Palin, not to mention more intelligent and reality based. I would love to see a great female candidate sometime soon. We haven’t even elected an Italian American or anyone even remotely ethnic, and I believe that’s a barrier that should fall. But I’m not voting for Obama because of his color. I’m voting for him because I am afraid of what will happen to America with four more years of belligerent foreign policy, tax breaks to the rich and to the companies who sell our jobs overseas, and total lack of concern for us little people who do the work of America, what work there is left. You may think I am a liberal, but I have raised four responsible, intelligent children, three of whom have gone out into the world expecting to work hard for everything they get. I believe in personal responsibility and consequences. I also believe in the idea that with two people working full time to support a family, that family shouldn’t be struggling due to the high price of everything that is necessary. I believe that I shouldn’t have to work through May to pay my taxes and then get what is left over the rest of the year, while McCain can’t even remember how many homes he has. All I want is one. I have worked hard all my life and I still don’t know if my husband and I will be able to “retire”, ever. I think we need a government that is responsible to all of us, not just the richest ones. I also think that Obama is right in that we all need to take more personal responsibility. He has taken a lot of criticism from some of the black community as a result. But as I see these kids of all colors getting into trouble, getting into gangs, drugs, girls getting pregnant without any thought to a stable home for their children and young fathers who sire more children than they can possibly support, let alone help raise, and then I look at my own kids, who were held accountable by ME for what they did and where they went. People don’t seem to take parenting very seriously any more, and it’s actually the most important job of all. If you aren’t prepared to raise a child responsibly and instill good values in them, you shouldn’t be having them. Get a pet instead. And you don’t have to be a right-wing Christian to have good values, by the way. My own very Baptist sister and her pastor husband have a daughter who is now pregnant with her second child with a different father than the first child. They never discussed birth control with my niece, and they wouldn’t allow anyone else to. The abstinence method didn’t work for her either. I don’t condone or encourage pre-marital sex, but my kids all knew what they needed to know to make responsible decisions.

The hurricane is obvious indication of destruction and clearly evidenced by the radar image, however guessing that some nation is going to do something, without any factual evidence has no indication of impending destruction. And 911 should have been acted upon if there was factual evidence of its impending happening. However if you are saying we should have “guessed” they were going to do it and just attacked afghanistan on that “thought” before hand, then you are completely nuts.

I know he is a Holocaust denier.
I am not aware that he has ever threatened to kill all Jews.
I am not aware he has even threatened to kill ANY Israeli Jews.
I know that he DOES intend to destroy the State of Israel – as a sovereign political entity. Like many Arabs, and some extreme left and extreme right Americans (Noam Chomsky & Pat Buchanan agree on this one issue), Ahmadinejad believes that the very creation of the State of Israel is an historical injustice – a crime against the “Palestinian” Arabs – that must be redressed.
These are his stated views. I do not share them, I think the State of Israel has every right to exist within the boundaries of 1968 AND with a unified Jerusalem AS its capital!
That’s a discussion for another day.
Still, the view that the State of Israel does not have the right to exist is NOT EXTREME in the least by Arab, Middle Eastern Standards – it is the same view held by the leaders of Saudi Arabia, among others.
This is the view that Ahmadinejad subscribes to – NOT that all Jews should be murdered in a second Holocaust.

I hate it when a person uses the saddest chapters in a specific group of people’s history to get votes. I am truly an objective voice here, because I do not like ANY of the candidates running for the highest office of our country. I also hate negativity,and refuse to be swayed by negative adds and media. Is it not possible to win this office by JUST stating the issues and how you plan to better our country? Quoting each candidate by using their words out of context ( like many of you here are doing), should be illegal. both campaigns hope you are ignorant enough to be led by the nose and never ask questions.
Here is how I see this anti-Iran rally. The Democrats made a mistake by not standing together on this front.

As far as Palin’s comment about Russia, and seeing it from her window, If Russia became a very serious threat and they attacked our country, where would they start their invasion? Here are a few other things to straighten out:
Obama doesn’t want kindergarten children to have the same sex ed that older kids have.

I have a concern that Bush or McCain can come up with a real plan that can keep this finacial mess from happening again. Why did we even get to this point and why didnt they see it coming if a plan can be made in a day or two. I will say that the only one that addressed this mess coming was Obama 6 months ago. Obama says he wont comment on the current plan until he gets more facts. Republicans are knocking him for that and yet they havnt even released the plan details yet for him to comment on. What a bunch of baloney. After spending 40 years fending off the Soviet Union which had 40,000 nuclear weapons why should anybody take Iran seriously? It’s a third-world country that poses no threat to the United States. As one of the few countries in the region we haven’t been dropping bombs on (yet), they have no real motivation to attack us anyway. If they did then Ayatollah Khomeini would have had an easy time finding suicide bombers. Alas nobody was interested since we weren’t killing them and they had already overthrown the government we had arranged for them. They’re certainly not going to give nukes to Bin Laden. They’d be afraid of them being used against themselves. And if this is such a dire problem then why haven’t we savaged Pakistan which DOES have nukes and plenty of Bin Laden sympathizers in it’s military and intelligence services? The answer is simple. It’s because despite all the religious bluster these places still aren’t run by fools. They know the manufacturing origin of any nuclear weapon can be determined in a matter of hours and they would face annihilation. The doctrine of mutually assured destruction is still perfectly valid, except that it wouldn’t be “mutual” since we would still be around and they would not. If anything, Iran is a natural ally to the U.S. since we will need somebody to keep the Arabs in line after we’ve used up all their oil.

Iran threatening to “wipe Israel off the map” is Israel’s problem. Not ours. Israel has it’s own nukes. I do recall Khrushchev banging his shoe on the podium at the UN screaming “We will bury you!” Same thing.

The heads of Hezbollah and Hamas parrot the same line as Ahmaddinjad and Palestinian school children are taught geography with a map that shows Israel gone. Just this Wednesday Ahmaddinjad said that not only is “Greater Israel” in the process of disappearing (referring Israel and the territories conquered in the Six Day War in 1967) but that “Lesser Israel” will also be disappearing shortly – “Lesser Israel” meaning what’s left of Israel after she gives up the West Bank, etc. The evidence is clearer than clear, and it has nothing to do with “mis-translation” – a holocaust IS being planned for Israel by her enemies – whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

This was translated as…
“Israel must be wiped off the map”.
The original translation came from the Iranian government News Agency IRIB/IRNA. If a mistake was made in the translation, it was officially sanctioned by the Iranian Government.
I don’t know what “wipe off the map” means to you, but to me the idiom means to “cause a place to stop existing”, or to “obliterate totally”,or “destroy completely”.
Other proposed translations for the Persian phrase underscore that when Ahmadinejad said “wiped off the map” he may in fact NOT have been referring to the nation or land mass of Israel, but to…
the “regime occupying Jerusalem”.
In the Wikipedia entry discussing the controversy about the ‘correct translation’, it is noted that…
