So Sen. Obama isn’t allowed to write a book and make money off that book? If an author writes a book, and that book turns a profit, what’s the problem? Is there some little-known law that states that Presidential candidates can’t make money from writing a book? I have to say that your book comments make absolutely no sense to me. It is very nice for Sen. McCain to donate profits to charity. $10,000,000 is a heck of a lot of money. I still can’t figure out where Obama went wrong. If foreign nations attempted to invade the USA in 1862, because they thought they had the right to use force to bring about the resolution they wanted, we’d have told them where to go, and what to do when they got there. Fact is, by 2004, we knew the stories of massive WMDs and pervasive and persistent support of terrorist groups were grossly overstated. At that point, we should’ve immediately drawn up a withdrawal plan and pulled our soldiers out of Iraq. Instead, we are above 4,100 American soldiers dead, and more every week. I can only support a candidate who, if elected President, will draw up those withdrawal plans, and implement them without delay.

Automobiles are a NECESSITY. Unlike the Obamas, who reside in Chicago, which has public transportation, taxis, limousine services, etc. etc. etc.

As someone who just had to sell our family’s second car to pay for a surgery, there is no goddamn way I’m voting for an out-of-touch billionaire like McSame. Let’s say your company pays $1000/month for your family to have health insurance and you pay maybe $500 bringing your total cost to $1500/month. McCain wants to add that $1000 on to your income and have you pay taxes on it. That means if you are close to being in another tax rate then an additional $12,000/yr that used to be a company benefit, is now considered income and you are going to pay taxes on it. Unless you are in the top 5% richest people in America, Obama’s tax plan is not going to effect you the way McCains health care will. Can you afford another $12000 worth of taxes?
As far as the car’s they drive…They live in Chicago and are under the protection of the secret service, yes I would assume they would only have one car and probably are using a limo. Yes, I live a a small town north of Tambay Bay Florida, called Springhill. I was amazed how much support Obama is getting. This is simply Politics as usual. There is no republican versus democrat, that’s just what they want you to think. They want the common folk divided so they can control us more easily. It’s the wealthy versus the poor, and it has been for quite some time. There is no “people’s” candidate, by the standards of the masses, both of these candidate’s are “elitists” as are most politicians. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We certainly don’t want “Bubba Jim-Bob Briggs” from the local slam-a-torium running the country. Higher education does help prepare people for international politics and finance, whether the uneducated can admit that to themselves or not. We aren’t gonna be drinking beer’s with these people folks.
Look into any politician’s background and you will find questionable dealings were favors have been played, etc. If you can’t find it, that just means they were really good at hiding it or you aren’t looking in the right places. A huge part of the political machine is favors and quid pro quo. So please don’t consider this a negative. It affects ALL politicians(most people in fact). Therefore, unless they’ve broken a law, then this type of thing should be discluded from any consideration, as should the number of cars/houses they own, and any other spin that’s out there in the media.
Normally I would say, pick the candidates platform that most suits your beliefs. Myself, I would love a true “smaller government” politician to vote for, a true republican… unfortunately none of the candidates seem to fit this bill. From what I can see, both parties are big government parties and will increase government spending. So what’s left? While there are many– Three HUGE issues to consider, War in Iraq, Roe v Wade, & gun control.
Personally, my biggest obstacle for McCain is his running mate. Like her or not, it is absurd to think of today’s Sarah Palin as President of the free world. She is no more qualified or experienced to run the free world than the mayor of the small town where I live. No federal level political experience, little education. Considering his age and health condition, it is a debacle. If elected, hopefully he will remain healthy at least for a few years while she has a chance to learn the ropes. She does seem reasonably intelligent, but talk about throwing someone off a cliff to see if they can fly!! Scary.
Folks of John McCain’s age don’t like rapid change. So a vote for him is probably going to be a continuation of what we’ve been dealing with in the White House with some small deviations. This isn’t necessarily bad. Too much change too fast could be catastrophic for our country. Is there any guarantee that Obama will be any different? Nope. But there are some aforementioned key issues to consider.
We all need to be more tolerant of divergent viewpoints, left and right. If you can’t understand your neighbors view and agree to disagree with them intelligently, then you are part of the problem and are playing right into the machine’s desires. Weigh the issues, try to sift through the spin being spewed by both sides, and make a decision. Don’t be too disappointed however if little changes regardless of who’s elected. They are the wealthy elite folks, and we are the poor. Who’s paying for the AIG bailout?? The multi-million dollar salaried administrators whose bad decisions caused the financial collapse? Nope. Taxpayers(you and I) will pay for it.

Among banks and the regulatory agencies, there was a consensus that data collection, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements imposed a heavy burden on small community institutions. As a result of a 2002 review of the CRA regulations, and revision of an initial Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) proposal following a public commenting period that was largely negative, the FDIC, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) and the Federal Reserve Board (FRB), made substantive changes to the implementation of regulations for the CRA for banks (not thrifts).
Previously, all institutions over $250 million in assets were subject to a three-part CRA test that covered lending (including community development loans), qualified investments, and services (including community development services) to their assessment areas. Institutions less than $250 million were subject only to a lending test.
However, as of September 1, 2005, only those institutions with more than $1 billion in assets were subject to the three-part test. Institutions below $250 million remain subject to only a lending test, and a new CRA test was created for institutions with assets between $250 million and $1 billion. This latter category, referred to as Intermediate Small Banks, is subject to the same lending test to which institutions under $250 million were subject; along with a new combined community development test that covers community development loans, qualified investments, and community development services. The $250 million and $1 billion asset thresholds also were indexed to the consumer price index and could change annually. Thus, all institutions remain subject to the CRA test. These substantive changes were intended to be a compromise between changes advocated by banks and community groups.
However, the changes were not received positively by all community groups. Changes to tests conducted on the Intermediate Small category were viewed by some as decreasing the institutions’ obligations to meet lending requirements of low- and moderate-income households. Racial inequities in mortgage acceptance rates (as reported by Inner City Press, the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, ACORN and other groups) are cited as a primary reason to maintain or even increase the scope of the CRA.

Most families I know including my own are educated, two wage earners with a mortgage, savings, teen-age children at home and do not buy their children cars. We teach morals and values and that nothing good comes from having everything handed to you on a silver platter. We work hard and help those we can. The McCains with their 7 homes, 13 cars, $500.00 shoes, and heaven help us a $300,000.00 dress !!!!! are greedy, self centered and plastic looking and exactly what is wrong with this country. The Obamas haven’t really required more than one car. They live in Hyde Park/Kenwood, Chicago, where Michelle could walk to her workplace at the University of Chicago Hospitals. The children’s school is located nearby, and in the vicinity of the Obamas’ home are Metra train stations and bus stops. My husband and I live in the same area, and we have only one car, which we rarely use. City life actually may make it less convenient to own a car than not to own one, since parking can be a hassle and insurance costs are high. The McCains’ situation is different, though, really, who NEEDS 13 cars? Most of the McCain children are no longer living at home.

The Democrats have really shot themselves in the foot this year. This election was theirs to lose and it looks like they are going to. Through a flawed caucus system and the inept handling of Florida and Michigan primaries they have managed to nominate the one candidate that could lose this election. If Hillary had won the nomination and selected Obama as her running mate this election would not even be close and the Democrats would have probably held the White House for sixteen years with both the first woman President and the first African-American. When McCain wins in November he definitely needs to send Howard Dean a nice “Thank You” note.

I find it a bit repulsive that mcCain lives off of his wife, his second wife, who dresses like a tart despite having the money to hire someone to tell her better. He has a black child as well? how is that? He seems to be a bit of man whore and an opportunist, that McCain does. Jack Kennendy had his law degree as well before he was a senator. But with the Palin women she has no education and that I worry about. I would never want anyone, no mind their color or gender, but you need to understand the lawsofthe nation and how money works and those traders and banks run a nd their loopholes and such. One of my daughters is an accountant and you know she can run circles around the other two in what she knows about those things. It matters what education you have. I don’t know why people would not value knowledge. that is odd to me. He asked her stupid questions like how did you feel when you got the call for the VP job. Who cares how she felt, we want to know what she will do when she get there. Another thing I noticed about the interview was when Sean asked her a question he included the talking points, so all she had to do was to expand on what he said. Doctors can be bankrupted and even prosecuted for irregular prescribing patterns. So, McCain was risking the futures of multiple families when she ordered hundreds of pain pills on the sly. One of the doctors who worked with McCain at AVMT lost his license to practice medicine over the diversion scandal.
Cindy McCain’s self-indulgence ruined lives. She has publicly apologized for taking the drugs without permission, but I’m not aware of any apologies for pressuring her employees to risk their futures to feed her addiction.
Ironically, part of her diversion from criminal prosecution involved joining Narcotics Anonymous–which stipulates that an addict must make amends to those she has harmed. That’s not a step Cindy appears to have taken to heart in her dealings with her former emplyee, Tom Gosinski, the main whistleblower in this case.

McCain’s cars has nothing to do with the campaign for the presidency. It is a trifle topic. If Obama has only one car I am sure it isn’t new. He has a garage. Is that where he parks his Limo? Maybe he rents Limo’s from time to time. But who cares about cars. The issues are what is important in this campaign and the crash of Lehman Brothers. If the economy was that bad why are thousands of people using their cars instead of public transportation. When I was shopping for food at Jewel there were shopper’s with baskets filled to the top with all kinds of items. Foreclosures are the result of the buyer’s and banks. Making wrong decisions in buying and loaning. The president is not responsible for foreclosures. Bush is at fault for the Iraq war that cost us millions of dollars that could have been spent other ways. We need a president that will not just say they will bring the troops home but do it. Balance the deficit and have a surplus. As far as Insurance I don’t think that company’s are responsible to take an insurance plan out for employees. Especially if you work for a small company with few employees. What they can do for the senior’s and elderly(65 & over)that are on Medicare is to allow them to also get a Medicaid card which would help them pay their hospital and doctor bills. Veterans should be able to go to the VA hospital free. Now they want them to pay for their own medicine. Insurance company’s should have affordable insurance for person’s 50 and over. There are senior’s over 70 and working park time because they can’t make it on their social security check. There should be no taxes taken out of their check especially social security.

Anytime, any wanted to crack down such as McCain tried in 2005—-the dems and even some republicans whined that it would stop minorities/the poor from getting houses. 1. There is a birth certificate filed in a Kenyan hosp with Barack Hussein Obama’s name and birthdate. He also has Kenyan citizenship.
2. He is also is listed as a citizen of Indonesia, what’s wrong with that you say? Well, Indonesia does not believe in dual-citizenship. You either are or your not, and when Obama was 21 he traveled to Pakistan with a passport with him listed as an Indonesian citizen.

This is absolutely rediculous. McCain has several children and bought them all cars. A car at a vacation home is not a crime and more common than not, even the middle class. Obama does not have any dependents driving age and uses public transportation and hired limos. With my high school and college children I “own” 7 cars myself. This is just plain nuts people’s reaction on this.

I am quite sure it does not matter how many cars a candidate has but it surely is surprising that Mccain despite all his tall claims about supporting American indsutry and support for American workforce own a large set of German and Japanese cars .. Can he ever get his talk and walk straight !!

The car and house issues don’t both me about McCain. He’s contributing to the economy in one way or another as a consumer. Gov. Palin lived a middle-class life and does understand everyday people, so she can’t be dumped in the same category as McCain on that issue, I wouldn’t think.
I think Mitt Romney said it best when he said something to the effect of, “Barack Obama is charming and a fine person with a lovely family, but he is not ready to be president”.
Personally, I believe that most of Mr. Obama’s ideas are coming from his advisors, and he has had a lot of time to “learn things about the economy and foreign policy, etc., from these advisors. So, are we voting for him, or for these other people, behind the scenes. I really don’t know because I can’t see anything in his background that tells me very much.
I don’t agree with everything about John McCain, but I can see his history, his record, and feel sure his views are his views, whether he makes mistakes sometimes, or changes his mind when circumstances change.
As far as Sarah Palin, I can’t believe she has been so strong, under so many attacks. There is so much hate, bashing, and down-right cruelty toward this woman, I am shocked. I could never have survived the abuse that she has taken, and yet she still holds her head up and keeps going, with focus and determination.
I know that both sides have their faults, and sadly there have been misleading ads, comments, and gossip on both sides. I am researching for myself, and won’t be swayed by all the nonsense.
BTW, I have read in three different articles that Sarah Palin’s Major was in Journalism and her Minor was in Political Science.

One more thought on the subject of Sarah Palin: she made a comment about being able to see Russia from her backporch (something like that). She has been ridiculed unmercifully over this comment. I lived in Alaska years ago. It is a state with an abundance of natural resources, diverse population, and prominent military installations. Russia is very close, indeed. Could it be possible that the state of Alaska, being so close to Russia, would naturally be considered our first line of defense, should any “issues” arise? Could it be possible that Gov. Palin would be privy to some kind of planned strategy of operation, defense, military action, etc., should a national security issues arise? I know that she wouldn’t be calling the “shots”, but she would be right in the middle of the action. I think she has a little more knowledge and experience than some would like to admit.
