SC Dem Chair: Palin’s Chief Req for Job Is She Hasn’t Had an Abortion
Does Gov. Sarah Palin have the Democrats completely and utterly rattled?
What on earth is going on?
Politico’s Jonathan Martin reports that South Carolina Democratic chairwoman Carol Fowler told a Politico reporter today that Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., had chosen a running mate" whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion."
Palin is an ardent opponent of abortion rights and earlier this year gave birth to her fifth child, Trig, who has Down Syndrome.
South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson today called Fowler’s statement "offensive, outrageous and — most importantly –- dead wrong. Gov. Sarah Palin is a strong pro-life, pro-family, reform-minded conservative with meaningful experience, whose message has resonated in South Carolina. Fowler’s statement is born out of desperation from a campaign that is sputtering across the South. Carol Fowler should immediately apologize. Her remarks are unbecoming of a party leader and demonstrate poor judgment."
My stars.
- jpt
UPDATE: Obama campaign spox Nicholas Shapiro says, “She was not speaking for our campaign -– just as John McCain has said state parties don’t speak for him. But, obviously, this does not reflect our view."
UPDATE 2: Fowler has issued a statement, saying, "I personally admire and respect the difficult choices that women make everyday, and I apologize to anyone who finds my comment offensive. I clumsily was making a point about people in South Carolina who may vote based on a single issue. Whether it’s the environment, the economy, the war or a woman’s right to choose, there are people who will cast their vote based on a single issue. That was the only point I was attempting to make."

WASHINGTON, Aug. 29 /Christian Newswire/ — Today the National Right to Life Committee praised John McCain’s pick of pro-life Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate.
“We’re thrilled,” said Karen Cross, National Right to Life Political Director. “Senator McCain has demonstrated his dedication to life in his selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate.”
National Right to Life President Wanda Franz, Ph.D added, “Governor Palin brings another strong pro-life voice to the Republican ticket, in sharp contrast to the pro-abortion ticket of Barack Obama and Joe Biden.”

This person is so clueless. An apology wouldn’t matter. This comment obviously reflects how she and many in her party truly feel. Her husband was the head of the DNC and told Hillary supporters to “get over it” in a letter last Spring. She’s not just a random person with a random opinion. This is how many in the democrat party really think and it’s very illuminating.

This is obviously a pattern of attack on Sarah Palin in line with the now infamous ‘lipstick’ slur. They’ve decided to go for the Golden Child of the Republicans. Why else would they send 30 lawyers and investigators up to Anchorage? It’s not to get her autograph. They’ve decided to destroy her. Unfortunately for McCain, the mainstream media will be a willing surrogate. Sarah *has* to hit the ball out of the park again , tomorrow , when she’s on ABC with Charlie Gibson.

What a disgusting comment for her and her office to make. She’s certainly an angry and hateful acting person to me. Why would she judge a person’s for keeping their child. I see no value for a person or society to not protect life. We would be a terrible society to not care for the babies to the elderly who are most helpless. This elected official should be fired. Come on South Carolina, find a better representative. Shame on her and her district!

What’s with the Republicans constantly saying people should apologize?
Did Palin apologize for LYING to the American public after she read the speech that was prepared for her by Bush’s speech writers?
Did she apologize for sarcastically reading insults that had no factual basis?
POOR SARAH PALIN. SHE’S SUCH A VICTIM. POOR, POOR SARAH PALIN. AWE.
She’s obviously no where near tough enough to be on the national stage. She should go back to running her tiny town into debt.

Palin is the ultimate distraction the Republicans have thrown at us.
When will we ever talk about the issues?
How does McCain plan to turn the economy around? And don’t tell me it’s through more tax cuts for the wealthy who will graciously invest their dollars here in America, spurring job growth that we all will benefit from, eventually. We’ve been there, done that.
Or health care. And don’t tell me that I’ll be just fine when my employer tells me they no longer have to provide health insurance, but don’t worry, the McCain administration will send you a check for $5,000 so you can go buy your own on the free market.
Telling me you’re going to reform Washington doesn’t tell me how you’re going to turn this country around.

You media types are sneaky minipulators. When the Dems allow the republicans to say all sorts of things without answering you call them weak. When they answer back the same way the Republicans would you call them rattled.
This whole Gov. Palin thing is a joke. If women in the United States would choose a candidate who has not even tell them what she stands for then they deserve just what they will get in november. More wars, governments right to choose who gets abortions and an incompetent president and Vice president both of whom seem to hav no clue how to make the Us a 21st century progressive nation.
They a both living in the pass. One who dont know what to do with a computer and the other who thinks you have to hunt wild animals to eat and control other peoples personal life.

Badly stated but true. Sarah Palin has no qualifications to be VP. She is a right wing nut job with a record of firing anyone who gets in her way. She is as corrupt as the current Bush administration and hasn’t been caught because she’s governor of the most corrupt state in the country. Republicans get over it…she is a loser.

They don’t want to talk about the highest unemployment rate in 5 years.
The economy shoved its way to the front of the presidential campaign once again, as the nation’s jobless rate shot to a five-year high — escalating fears that the country is spiraling into a full recession.
They don’t want to talk about staggering job losses.
The United States lost a total of 605,000 jobs in the first eight months of 2008, including 84,000 in August 2008.
They don’t want to talk about the skyrocketing deficit.
The Congressional Budget Office said the U.S. budget deficit for fiscal 2008 — $407 billion — will be more than double the deficit for 2007, hit by the wars and a weak economy, and predicted it is likely to rise further in fiscal 2009.
They don’t want to talk about rising gas prices.
In its monthly short-term outlook, the government said prices at the pump would likely average $3.61 this year and $3.88 next year.
They don’t want to talk about record food prices.
U.S. consumers should brace for the biggest increase in food prices in nearly 20 years in 2008 and even more pain next year due to surging meat and produce prices, the Agriculture Department said on Wednesday.
They don’t want to talk about the housing crisis.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac used accounting rules that created a “house of cards” as the housing market descended into its worst slump since the Great Depression.
They don’t want to talk about the collapsing dollar.
The dollar weakened against other major currencies Tuesday as investors worried about the health of the US economy after the nationalization of two mortgage finance giants over the weekend.
They don’t want to talk about record foreclosures.
The rate of mortgages entering foreclosure hit another record high in the second quarter, as did the percentage of loans somewhere in the foreclosure process, the Mortgage Bankers Association reported on Friday. The delinquency rate, which measures mortgages that aren’t in foreclosure but have at least one overdue payment, also was the highest ever recorded in the MBA’s quarterly survey.
They don’t want to talk about stagnant wages.
Factoring in inflation, hourly wages were only 0.2% higher, and weekly wages were actually 0.8% lower in July 2008 than in March 2001.
They don’t want to talk about the highest misery index in 17 years.
The misery index hit the worst level since May 1991, according to a new analysis released today by the Campaign for America’s Future.
They don’t want to talk about any of these things because on the economy, McSame-Palin is lockstep with Bush-Cheney. They are trickle-down, Club-for-Growth, tax-cuts-cure-all Republicans. And they simply don’t have an answer to any of these problems

Posted by: SandyB | September 10, 2008, 5:13 pm 5:13 pm
True, this was a stupid thing for Fowler to say when she could be asking such things as:
What kind of budget-cutter makes a show of getting rid of the state plane, then turns around and bills taxpayers for the travel of her husband and kids between Juneau and Wasilla and sticks the state with a per-diem tab to stay in her own home?
Why was Sarah for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against the Bridge to Nowhere, and why was she for earmarks before she was against them? And doesn’t all this make her just as big a flip-flopper as John Kerry?
What kind of fiscal conservative raises taxes and increases budgets in both her jobs — as mayor and as governor?
When the phone rings at 3 a.m., will she call the Wasilla Assembly of God congregation and ask them to pray on a response, as she asked them to pray for a natural gas pipeline?
Does she really think Adam, Eve, Satan and the dinosaurs mingled on the earth 5,000 years ago?
Why put out a press release about her teenage daughter’s pregnancy and then spend the next few days attacking the press for covering that press release?
As Troopergate unfolds here — an inquiry into whether Palin inappropriately fired the commissioner of public safety for refusing to fire her ex-brother-in-law — it raises this question: Who else is on her enemies list and what might she do with the F.B.I.?
Does she want a federal ban on trans fat in restaurants and a ban on abortion and Harry Potter? And which books exactly would have landed on the literature bonfire if she had had her way with that Wasilla librarian?
Just how is it that Fannie and Freddie have cost taxpayers money (since they haven’t yet)?
What does she have against polar bears?

They have really stooped. Most of my republican friends think it is a joke too. If the hail-Mary scores, we will all be the losers, but McCain will have his way. Nice job putting country first.

Do John McCain or conservative republicans respect the moral foundations of our country? The U.S. Constitution is abused by conservative republicans at every turn.
U.S. Constitution: Amendment I – Freedom of Religion
Because of conservative republicans, your tax dollars are funding religious groups you may not agree with. To add insult to injury, conservative appointed judges have ruled that you do not have a right to challenge this expenditure.
Amendment IV – Search and seizure
Under the guise of court action against abortion, Conservative republicans had John Ashcroft subpoena all the medical records of literally thousands of women like you and members of your family. Conservative republicans invade your privacy every day by browsing your email and phone records. Unfortunately for all of us, they don’t appear to care about our U.S. constitution, and they certainly don’t care about your privacy.
Amendment X – Powers of the States and People
John McCain and conservative republicans have tried consistently to overturn States Laws. They used your hard earned tax dollars to destroy the will of the people of Oregon, and the famous “Death with Dignity” law; they lost, but undoubtedly will try again. Conservative republicans and John McCain do not respect States Rights. If your state votes for something conservatives don’t agree with they will use federal powers to overturn it regardless of how you and your fellow voters feel.
Amendment VIII – Cruel and Unusual punishment
Would you rather die, or support a government which supported and sanctioned torture? The founding fathers would rather have died. The founding fathers were proud to fight and die for our government: A government which specifically outlaws cruel and unusual punishment. Conservatives don’t agree with this philosophy. Conservatives are at odds with our founding fathers on this score, and too many others to count.
John McCain and the conservative republicans have already gone too far in destroying the moral foundations of our country. I urge you to keep this in mind in the coming election as we rebuild our nation together by voting Democrat. Obama has stated that during his first 100 days in office he would overturn any unconstitutional executive orders. Let’s help him do that by electing him – it’s only American!

Isn’t that monster’s husband the same guy who wanted hurricane Gustav to destroy New Orleans again so that the Democrats could score political points? I’ve been undecided till now but remarks like this are definitely swaying me to vote for McCain/Palin. Why are there so many nuts like this in the Democratic Party now days?

It seems like Obama has been in a tail-spin ever since about the time of his infamous 3 a.m. text message.
After all of the hype and anticipation, I seem to remember a lot of folks were very upset about the hour of the message, especially when the Biden pick had already been disseminated by the MSM.
The Biden pick itself I think brought back a lot of the bad feelings on the part of the former Hillary supporters, which also didn’t do him a lot of good.
Even with all of the enthusiasm displayed at the Dem Convention, you could still feel that undercurrent of division, especially after Hillary delivered her speech. I know that a lot of folks were less than thrilled with at least the content of Obama’s speech.
So, he was already faltering when McCain announced his choice of Palin the day after the Dem Convention ended. The choice of Palin not only provided a fresh face for everyone to start inquiring about, which took away a lot of Obama’s thunder, but also brought back to the forefront the resentment that Hillary had not been selected as HIS V.P.
Things have just proceeded on their downhill run from there.

Since sleeping in your own bedroom is not a tax-deductible business expense, those per diems (and perhaps the travel expense for Palin’s children traveling with her) represented taxable income to Palin. As far as I know, she hasn’t released her tax returns yet, but there could be an explosive issue there. Voters don’t like petty chiselers, and they don’t like tax cheats.

This is no more disgusting than the current McCain ads running in Oh. They claim BO voted for sex ed for kindergarten aged children. That’s not what the bill was about. It was about protecting children from pedophiles. Not teaching them about sex, but teaching them about inappropriate touching. For God’s sake, what the hell? I couldn’t believe it. The republican party will stoop to anything. They know what that Bill was about. If they have their way our children will remain ignorant and ill informed. Just bury your head in the sand and it will all go away. Poof….your 17 year old daughter is pregnant. And let’s hope you can afford to support her, because otherwise she’s on her own.

Obama’s dream of changing all the states color to his is failing as fast as his donations are dryng up. He’s now abandoning those states and retreating into a few ‘battleground’ states.
He still needs to win at least one state Bush carried but that’s looking very doubtful.
The shallow one is running out of steam!

I have watched the primaries and now the general election……There was a blatant use of reverse racism and sexism as a political weapon that Obama amplified and used through a willing media.
The McCain campaign is now in the process of trying to innoculate itself to avoid these tacftics in the future.
69% of voters believe (as a recent poll suggests) that the media is trying to help their candidate Obama. McCain needs to run an extraordinary campaign. I think there is strategy behind this. McCain has to run against both Obama and the press.
By the way…Obama was definitely using a play on words directed at Palin….Don’t be Bamboozled.

Regarding the Biden gaffe,
Jake you really need to add that one. Lol
Seriously though, I have one of two theories here:
1. Biden is really a mole operating for the Clintons to destroy Obama from within
2. Biden is preparing the way to step down, so Hillary can take the VP slot, and Obama once again has a shot at winning.
Thoughts?
Posted by: JA | September 10, 2008, 5:32 pm 5:32 pm
I thought you were in the news business Jake, is this the first you’ve learned about Palin’s (non-existent) qualifications?
She is uniquely unqualified, what exactly are her qualifications? Everyone knows she was purely a political choice. McCain wanted Lieberman and the Republican right wing wanted Palin.
She’s ready to lead the war on terror in Afganistan, and knows the players in Pakistan’s new government well enough to finally get Bin Laden – dead or alive, NO?
She’s got a firm handle on the mortgage lending/banking crisis and that taxpayer funded Fannie Mae, NO?
Social Security reform, she has that all figured out, NO?
Health care, she’s an expert, NO?
She’s a leader in education, NO?
She’s got all kinds of proposals for turning around the economy, NO?
NO on all accounts?!?!? :-(
Literally no hope in leading on any of the major national or international issues facing America today?!!??!!? Looks like it.
So, remind us then Jake, other than helping McCain with politically energizing the right wing, what are her qualifications?
Posted by: Linda | September 10, 2008, 5:33 pm 5:33 pm
I truly hope that Senator Obama makes a statement condemning such reprehensible remarks. Ugly statements like the one made by Ms. Fowler have no place in any one’s campaign. If someone in the McCain campaign made a racist remark or an anti-Catholic remark the outcry from the Obama people would be deafening. Mr. Obama please reclaim the high road and remind us that there is no place in politics for statements like this.

Bea, Republicans prefer teachers not do the teaching on that. Look at the state of our public education system and ask yourself who is better qualified to teach such a personal thing. The way some teachers screw up the basics, I’m sure I can do a much better job teaching my child about innapropriate touching. Thanks, but not thanks Obama, leave your liberal hands off my child in that department.

As a life-long Democrat, I wish to personally apologize for the comments of Carol Fowler. Her horrible comment in on way reflects the belief of the vast majority of Democrats that being pro-choice means just that. The woman has the right to make whatever decision is right for her. To interject the personal and private decision of Gov. Palin to continue her pregnancy into the political discussion is unacceptable. The sexism that has been thrown at the Gov. by my party is embarrassing to me. I saw it directed at Hillary and I see it being directed at Palin and it is a cancer that has consumed my once loved party.

Apparently the Democrats have never read Palin’s resume. Compared with Obama’s she is ten times more experienced than a junior US Senator with less that 300 hours of experience undr his belt. Sarah Palin is pro- government control of our bodies and forced marriage. make no mistake. She is also pro-having a religious agenda for policy making. That abstinence only is working out really well so far? McCain needed a photogenic, unknown VP to make the 60 days after the convention about finding out about her instead of addressing issues as much as possible. Look for him to deflect each question in the debates to an attack on Obama instead of presenting his own positions.

Ms. Fowler’s comments are just one more comment in a long line of Democratic failures to grasp the fact that they are beginning to loose their grasp on the White House. They do not know how to respond to McCasin/Palin and have decided that insulted and lieng abot Governor Palin are the best way to win. As an exmple, on CNN’s “Situation Room” today, Wolf Blitzer let a comment that Governor Palin had reduced the special child’s needs budget by 60% go by with a comment “I had not heard that before.”
It’s a flat untruth, as shown by Anderson Cooper just last night. The link is on the CNN website: “Internet rumors target Palin”. In fact, she has more than tripled the budget from $24,000 per child per year to $74,000 per child per year.

This is really getting humorous. Watching the Democrats try to figure out which angle to attack Palin from. They are quite obviously obsessed with trying to destroy her. She has obviously helped McCain and the more the Dems go after her, the more support she will pick up. This is where Obama should step in and tell his surrogates to back off. If he was smart, he would just leave it alone and get back to the issues that got him nominated. The more attention he pays to Palin, and the more the Democrats pay, the worse it is. Obama does not seem to have the intelligence to see that.

More bribery and corruption from Republicans
WASHINGTON – Government officials handling billions of dollars in oil royalties engaged in illicit sex with employees of energy companies they were dealing with and received numerous gifts from them, federal investigators said Wednesday.
The alleged transgressions involve 13 Interior Department employees in Denver and Washington. Their alleged improprieties include rigging contracts, working part-time as private oil consultants, and having sexual relationships with — and accepting golf and ski trips and dinners from — oil company employees, according to three reports released Wednesday by the Interior Department’s inspector general.
The investigations reveal a “culture of substance abuse and promiscuity” by a small group of individuals “wholly lacking in acceptance of or adherence to government ethical standards,” wrote Inspector General Earl E. Devaney.

The Rasmussen poll is just one poll. Every other poll still shows McCain ahead. One poll shows him ahead by 7 points.
I strongly doubt Obama will regain his lead with idiotic statements like the ones he’s made so far.
The primaries are now over. Even the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina is now over, which would surely give the Democrats a bounce.

I think everybody needs to calm the hell down. Palin needs to bring her ass out of hiding. For two weeks she has been sequestered. What in the hell is she afraid of? The McCain camp says she will talk when she’s ready. I thought they chose someone ready to lead. Quite frankly, if you are running for the 2nd highest office in the land, silence is not an option…it’s unacceptable.

Well it looks to me like the Obama supporters are in a panic. But you guys must remember your far left ideals are not the main stream. Also some say that the Rep. are going to destory the consititution. Well lets look at it this way, taking money (taxes) from the rich and giving it to the poor seems like it is more against the consitiution than anything that McCain has said. Oh yes it is taxes but everyone should pay taxes and if you look 5% of the public pays 90% of the taxes now. So if you really look at it this does not hold water at all. Now all the talk about Palin is way off base. But since Obama and his supporters are after her because they have been unable to find any thing on McCain and now they think they might with her. Obama there has been plenty negative about him but the press is not willing to bring it up due to their leaning to the left and ar supporting him. Wright and his other buddies. Now if I was afraid of someone being president it wouldn’t be McCain or Palin or Biden but Obama you got to worry.

I’ll take Fowler’s comments ANYDAY over John McCain’s lying, FLIPFLOPPIN, “I don’t know any thing about economics.
It is VERY Clear to me as to why is pick Palin. She is as detached from reality as he (and apparantly the same group of millions that voted for crackpot a 2ed time) and the rest of the “Deny-ers” are.
Take a look at McCain’s response to Ron Paul’s question on economic policy. It staggers the mind that millions want him as a leader.

Mccain is 72. He might live less than two years after he takes over office. Who is going to be his successor? Sarah Palin? scary. It is 100% clear that Mccain made a political choice. I think what Math Damon has said is right.
“It’s like a really bad Disney movie — the hockey mom…from Alaska, and she’s the president, and it’s like she’s facing down Vladimir Putin and using the folksy stuff she learned at the hockey rink. And it’s absurd, it’s totally absurd, and I don’t understand why people aren’t talking about how absurd it is”

Palin wanted her daughter’s pregancy to be handled as a sensitive family matter. The questions a woman confronts when dealing with an unwanted pregancy is a matter to her, her family, the father (if not a serial rapiest, child molester out of prison) and their spriritual consul. Its not a matter for a bunch of politicians and religious leaders to dictate for you.

This from “carl”: “But I think there is a deep seated resentment that the Republicans would be so crass as to nominate someone who is utterly not qualified to be president because they can spin a good tale with her.”
If you’d said him, not her, I would have sworn you were talking about Obama.
The Democrats are so petrified of Palin – what other reason would there be for the personal attacks and snotty remarks? Why? If she is so unqualified and so terrible, it will come out in the debates and as time goes on. With one speech, Palin has driven them into a frenzy, and the more personal, nasty comments the Democrats make, the more they help John McCain and Sarah Palin.
If it weren’t so sad, it would be kind of funny. The DNC had a great candidate in Hillary Clinton, and it sacrificed her to promote Obama. I still don’t get why, but I’ve stopped trying to figure that out. Sorry if McCain trumped them by selecting Palin, but it’s their own fault – first, they turned on the Clintons, who have done more for that party than anyone else in a very, very long time, then Obama wouldn’t even CONSIDER having Hillary Clinton as his running mate, although she appealed to such a vast majority of voters. Pelosi, Dean, Obama and the rest of his crew – including the delegates who chose to ignore the votes of their own constituents and jump on the Obama bandwagon – should be sent a clear message. DON’T vote for any of them. Let them see that EVERY vote should count, not just those who caved to pressure to vote for “THE ONE”.

ladywriter – do you really believe that if the corporate tax credits are allowed to expire (as Obama proposes), jobs will come back? Usually, taxes are raised, jobs are quickly cut or exported. ~~ While some jobs have been eliminated or shipped overseas, the reality in this country is that we are in the midst of a nursing shortage that’s expected to get worse – hospitals can’t hire people fast enough for all positions; Border Patrol is having trouble recruiting new hires; police departments nationwide have staffing shortages … the list goes on – the jobs are there, they just sometimes require additional training, creativity or relocation. The country needs to get out of this mindset that because a few factory or call center jobs have been shipped overseas, there’s no work for anyone.

if america ever wants to regain its former status as the world first and leading and superpower country, obama will have to be president ..
though it is the choice of american citizens yes ..but consider …if it is sustaining the US that u want ..fine vote mccain he is a great candidate ..
but if u want the world to once again respect and listen to the US then vote Obama coz he will puch the US into the future not keep it in the present or in the past …
nowadays whatever america or americans hav to say is often dismissed with a laugh and rolling of the eyes …most people outside the US consider the american government as hypocrites and idiots and certainly the actions of many politicians recently only serve to higlight that fact ..it is almost painful watching a country lk america go down the path they are now …a path backwards and not forwards ..whuch is what nost european countries are trying to do now …

The republicans wanted to woo the far right, no abortion under any circumstance including rape, incest, or mother’s life in danger. The republicans have also not been shy about pointing out how strong Palin’s abortion values are by mentioning Trig. There were plenty of other more qualified women politicians, such as Kay Baily Hutchinson, they could have chosen. However, she would not have brought the hard, evangelical right like Palin did. If you don’t think Palin not aborting Trig did not play a large part in the selection, I have a bridge to sell you.

nope, something else is happening. I hear both sides are getting ready to throw Palin under the bus. The tabloids are howling for more juicy stories after John Edwards. They are actively digging up information about Sarah Palin’s “pregnancy” – how her staff did not know she was 7 months pregnant – how during the same time frame Palin’s daughter was “out of school” for 5 months – how the flight attendants did not see Palin pregnant as she flew home for the “delivery” – how the hospital in Alaska where Palin claims to have given birth has no records of the event – how Palin refuses to show Trig’s birth certificate. The Republican party is threatening lawsuits over publication. The Pig-n-Lipstick show will divert the entire country’s attention away from real issues for at least 8 weeks. Rove is brilliant.

Fowler was out of line, no question. Neither Obama nor his campaign authorized those comments, and I expect they will be repudiated shortly.
McCain by contrast gets called on his shamelessly false “lipstick” allegations, and what does he do? Rather than disavow or retract the false allegations (which he not third persons directly lodged against Obama), McCain wildly ups the ante with the even more clearly false You Tube ad.
Gutsy move? Stupid? Time will tell.
Moral? McCain will use every trick in the Rove playbook to get elected in November, and will thereafter shove every bit of the GOP’s far right agenda down our throats.

I’m sorry but that was an extremely stupid thing to say, totally unworthy of any woman let alone one in public office. I also hate the generalization that happens on both sides if you’re a democrat you must be pro-abortion and if you’re a republican you must be against it. First let me state that Carol Fowler’s comment is in very bad taste and not helpful to the Dem’s. But, isn’t this a contest to lead the United States? It seems everyone is very quick to get offended by any remark against their chosen candidate. While it is perfectly fair to offer rebuttals to such remarks, the whining and so called outrage is ridiculous. The Republicans seem to be the most offended this week, but the Democrats are playing into it as well. If Sarah Palin is so qualified and should not be disparaged, why isn’t she doing interviews now. I have only heard her repeat her lines from her convention speech. If she is somehow dragged down or truly upset over the lipstick comment, God help us all if she becomes President. This is not a job for the timid or easily offended.

Anybody (man or female) that would pick a running mate SOLELY on their gender, as McCain picked Palin, clearly does not put their COUNTRY FIRST. Their (Repubs) idea seems to be ‘win the race, no matter WHAT it costs Americans ethically!’ … Is this woman truly qualified to be the president of the United States, should McCain die during his term, if elected? The answer is definitely not! However, that little tidbit seems to be constantly being overlooked, first, by those who love Hillary. I love Hillary, but I’m not willing to be blinded to the point of accepting a lie or selling my country’s soul because she didn’t make the top this time out. And, secondly, by those who cannot stomach the idea that someone such as Obama could be our commander in chief. It’s a sad day, when we would sell our country, our children and our souls just to satisfy our own bias. Truly a sad day when we choose to lie to ourselves. … Matt Damon said it best — ‘this is terrifying that Ms. Palin could be the next president of the United States with no real credentials — and nobody’s really talking about — who is she and what are her in-depth qualifications.”

Nobody has a problem with being a community organizer, but it doesn’t automatically qualify one for president either. The point is that Obama’s resume is thin. He has no executive experience. While Palin’s resume isn’t too thick, she does have executive experience and she is only the VP choice, not the head. Contrary to the fear mongerers, McCain’s odds of living into his 80′s are pretty good. Just look at the longevity of most of the other recent presidents.

There are so many issues facing America and it is amazing how some people boil it down to ONE topic…GET OVER IT AND WAKE UP.
Stop focusing on “just” the abortion issue. What about education? What about national security? What about the social security problem? What about health care? Stop judging people by one topic.
Plus people seem to forget that the President does NOT pass laws. Congress does. The President cannot just appoint “any” judge…the Senate must approve it.
The Supreme Court has ruled that a woman has the right. It is NOT going to change, so stop making a big deal out of it.
Focus on what is best for America on ALL the major topics.
Posted by: Mike | September 10, 2008, 6:11 pm 6:11 pm
A seriously stupid and offensive comment.
HOWEVER, the Republicans are definitely USING Palin’s baby to stir everyone up on the abortion issue, when heretofore everyone’s attention was focused where it should be, on the economy. The Republicans know they can’t convince people they are stronger on the economy– after all, McCain admits he knows very little about it– so they are using the POLITICS OF DISTRACTION to get us thinking about something else.

No Erik, I think people like Palin because she took on a corrupt system and brought real change to her community and state – that’s something we need in Washington. Obama is someone who says we need change, yet in his notoriously corrupt hometown, he fit right in and rather than changing things, he prospered.

I’ve met plenty of community organizers. They all are great people, committed to their communities, and do everything they can to make those communities better places to live.
But if they want to be President, they have to show me more than that!

Obama–gets an 18% rating with a hostile rating.
Wake up taxpayers!

Obama’s tax plan calls for tax cuts for companies that keep jobs here and eliminating tax cuts for comaines that ship jobs over seas…
Like it or hate it one thing is for certain; if we elect Mclame we have no change in tax plans or economic policy.

I’m so tired of hearing that the threshold for the top office is “executive experience”. Take a look at the administration you’ve had for the past 8 years. It’s stock full of executive experience, and look where that’s gotten this country. Bush and Cheney came to us with resumes LOADED with executive experience, and they’ve led us to the worst economy in decades, the highest debt in history, 2 wars, the highest unemployment rate in years, loss of income, and higher costs for absolutely everything. Executive experience, huh? Yeah, right….we definitely need more of THAT.

Obama’s dislike of strong women cannot be contained.
He thought when he passed Hillary up he was free.
Then along comes Palin–tougher, more qualified, more popular. Stealing his spotlight just like Hillary.
Palin embarrassed him at the convention and like a spoiled little boy he called her a pig. He couldn’t help himself.
His arrogance will destroy him–it may have already.

How many wingbats are honestly in her camp f or that reason alone! scary. THis women may very well be face to face with Vladimir Putin. Yes Jake, Governor Palin does indeed have the Democrats completely and utterly rattled. The DNC selected Obama as their Golden Boy and heads swelled. They got cocky and stupid. And it is paying of for those of us that know he is not qualified.
Thanks Carol Fowler for helping our ticket. And thank you Obama for calling our VP candidate a pig.
The only option for them now is to remove Biden and bring in Hillary..which Biden alluded to today. I have no doubt they will try but I hope Hillary does not allow him or DNC use her like that. She is much much better than that.

I am extremely satisfied with McCain’s pick for V.P. The Dems continue to jeer at the right in any way possible, when they should be focused on the issues.
Am I the only one here who believes Obama and his left-wing pals have turned this into a popularity contest? Why else would he spend 2/3 of a speech thanking everyone for coming, all of his friends, and talking about this ‘change’. I think the word that best describes democrats is incredulous. How, with the economy falling, yet another financial instition failing due to Bush not knowing what he was doing with deregulation, PUtin ready to invade the world, it is beyond comprehension to thoughtful Americans that republicans would endanger us like this. There are ALOT of stupid people in this country and that women may very well be president, and that is a SCARY thought, not because of partisanship, but because she might get us all killed and in the full fledged all out depression.

There is some basis of fact to this. One of the conservative base objectives to Liberman and Romney (whose name was circulated prior to Palin selection by McCain) was that they would jump ship and a lot of the Evangelicals would go with them. As usual people then jump on the defensive and raise the fact (which is a fact) that the child born of Palin of late has Down Syndrome. Ms. Fowler wasn’t challenging her decision she was simply stating another fact – primary reason for the conservative and Evangelical base was she had not had a single abortion. That’s a fact – now whether she should have, could have, wasn’t informed enough whatever – whatever is not the point. In the political arena of choice McCain went with a pro-life, NRA, woman. Wise choice? Politically, perhaps. Right person for the nation to expect to go into office if he cannot serve the four years – absolutely, 100% no. Country would be better off with (I’m biting my tongue as I say it, Romney or Liberman). That said there are a lot of women that think like Ms. Fowler and there are a lot who don’t – but guess what? It isn’t going to solve the problem of 14.5 million children living below the poverty level without any health insurance or 4,000 + dead because of a war of choice. It does increase the chance of women being told your child will probably be born with Down Syndrome and not become well informed or teenagers raped (Palin is against abortion even in the cases of rape and incest) being told – live with it. But since lipstick became headlines I’m not surprised a statement of fact albeit distorted hasn’t topped that one.

The right-wing nutz are out in force! Palin is not qualified to hold public office because she is lying about her political history: She supported the bridge to nowhere until it was exposed.
She claims to be a reformer, yet she is owned and operated by the special (oil) interests. Her stand against abortion for rape & incest victims is heartless and cruel.
Obama is no saint, but his election will bring 3 much needed changes:
1. We will have a President who, when given a choice, will pick peace over war.
2. The national debt will grow slower or even reverse, so we can start climbing out of debt.
3. The Bush Crime family will stop stealing our tax money.
AND, as a bonus, veterans will be cared for and Bush’s war of choice will begin to end.
Posted by: JDSinLA | September 10, 2008, 6:29 pm 6:29 pm
Obama/Biden weren’t so smart to keep bringing up The Bridge to Nowhere.
They voted for it–and also voted against diverting some of the money to Katrina relief.
Maybe that explains why the pro-Obama media dropped the subject.
Obama/Biden–The real bridge to nowhere.

I think Ms Fowlers comment is meant to point to the fact that Palin has no credentials to qualify her for high office. It is really an insult to the dignity of women that this airhead should be placed on par with Hilary Clinton. Like her or not, agree with her or not Ms Clinton has credentials. She has a fine education, she is accomplished, she is intelligent, and she has class, none of these attributes could be used to describe Palin. As a VP Palin would be an embarrassment to the US on the world stage. She also seems to have a problem telling the truth and perhaps recognizing it if it were staring her in the face. She is not polished, but is coarse and shrill, is not accomplished and is not a good role model to women anywhere. As a mother she seems to have forgotten her first duty to her children. Does she know about maternity leave? On the judgement issue, why would any mother in 2008 force her daughter into an unwholesome marriage rather than let the young lady take full responsibility for her actions and prove herself by going it alone and taking care of her child herself. This is no lady.

Something to ponder: Palin’s daughter’s pregnancy has been looked on as a blessing even though it was conceived by her unmarried under aged teen daughter. Palin also doesn’t believe in abortion even though a pregancy might occur through rape or incest. Does this mean if a female gets pregant under those circumstances we should look at the pregancy as a blessing and the male who caused this to happen should also receive a blessing and not a jail sentence?

The Republicans are purposely distorting Obama’s comments which were about McCains policies, not Gov. Palin, and whining about how they are picking on her. Remember your whining comment Gov. Palin? In response to Mike’s comment about Matt Damon… Posted Sep 10, 2008 6:04:45 PM
Matt Damon might not have any qualifications to be a political advisor/expert, but I think he is speaking as a citizen who has concerns, which I share, that America has not heard anything of substance about Palin, beyond building bridges and paving roads in Alaska. Her views on topics should be transparent, which I feel are things the McCain/Palin campaign is consciously hiding from the American public. If she is to be second in command, why has she not spoken to the media in a week? Why is her first sit down interview carefully orchestrated? The national media is not “picking” on her. They are doing their job. Every public official/employee should answer to the constituents. Whether this happens through the news media or the Freedom of Information Act…it has to happen. McCain can’t coddle Palin anymore.

We have had a republican presidents for 16 of the last 24 years. Yet, I still hear democrats try and scare their voter base by saying “republicans will take your abortions away from you.” (Comment from early in this post.)
It hasn’t happened yet and with a solid democratic congress, (and John McCain) it will not happen in the near future.
So, scare tactics aside, what’s the deal with all the “fake” stories on Sarah Palin? (She burns books, shes a Nazi, shes the devil, etc) They do not seem to be hurting her and may be helping her poll numbers.
Barack Obama has a team of lawyers in Alaska right now trying to dig up dirt on Sarah. If there is something in her past, TEAM- Obama will reveal it.
(That is, unless, the team of lawyers ends up being republican- or- they fall in love with the “lipstick wearing” Sarah Palin.)

lack of intellect and education are very good reasons for not posting an opinion. An opinion is only as valuable as it is informed.. This is something that Ms Palin should understand and therefore withdraw. It is insulting to women to think that women everywhere would vote for such an inept lightweight just because she is female. It is SCARY to think this uneducated women may be president and making decision on how we react to Putin’s aggression and how to regulate the banking industry and we are INCREDULOUS that republicans would be SO irresponsible by putting us in the positino of having the MOST powerful position in the world be given to an uneducated person.

But Karl Rove probably said “don’t worry, we’ll spin this pig and put lipstick on it and the American people will buy it. They always do. They’re too stupid to care about issues and facts.” The sad part is, that it looks like these Republicans are right. The majority of the American public love to live in ignorance. I am baffled by it. No wonder the United States has lost credibility in the world. Our leader’s decisions have lost the moral high ground and our people’s choice of leaders is a reflection on our intellect (or lack of it). God help us.

Here is a racist comment coming from a bleeding heart liberal Democrat. Many blacks were so carried away with the possibility of having our first black president, that they shot themselves in the foot. Hillary was in their best interests. She had the experience, the toughness, the concern for the disenfranchised, and she had the best chance to win the Presidency.
Many Democrats were swept up in enthusiasm for a charismatic individual, too. Well, now circumstances are reversed and a popular individual is giving Obama a race for his money. How ironic. But anyone who would go from supporting Hillary to supporting McCain/Palin certainly does not get what Hillary was all about.
People who are loyal Republicans, go ahead and vote for your party. I understand that. However, if you are any sort of Independent, take a good hard look at the mess in which we find ourselves in the USA. Ask yourself if you can afford to take a chance on putting the same people in charge for four more years.
Some woman putting her foot in her mouth over whether Palin had an abortion or not is an irrelevant distraction.
The best kind of change is the kind that rattles around in your pocket when you have a job, and the best changing Palin will ever do in DC is changing poopy diapers.
There is a sexist remark from a woman to a woman. I make that remark to a woman who fired two people who disagreed with her and tried to fire another. I make that remark to a woman who tells deliberate lies, not the slip of the lip mix-ups that the stress of campaigning can produce, and on which the opposition pounces.
And by the way, Obama said something about putting lipstick on a pig. I guess that is an old figure of speech and he should be allowed to use it. Why do we suddenly have to watch our figures of speech for gender references to save Sarah’s feelings? Wait a minute, if he had meant to refer to Palin, maybe he would have said, “Putting lipstick on a sow.” But then, he is not a country boy. And Republicans have said much, much worse about Hillary.

Everyone is talking about Sara Palin and how she can change the “White House”. First of all how can they say “Change” if Palin compares herself and other soccer moms different by lipstick from a pitbull. To me she is calling herself the “B” word. Second how is Palin going to change the White House if she would be only over the senate and has “NO VOTE”. McCain is no different than the “good ole boys”, saying “A WOMAN SHOULD BE SEEN AND NOT HEAR”. Lastly, have you ever wondered why Hillary Clinton did not want to be Vice President, well she knew there is more than a pretty face to be seen and not heard. Mrs. Clinton knew what she was talking about and voiced commands would be done.

That is it!! I have never written into any of these blogs…but Mrs.Carol Fowler should be stripped of her title of South Carolina Democratic Chair”person”! Most people could not even come up mentally with something so crude and virile! But to say out loud that Mrs. Palin was chosen only because she didn’t believe in abortion….is despicable! unthinkable!!! Mrs. Fowler has made a horrific verbal mistake and should apologize to the Palin family.
When my husband wondered why Mr. Obama had not come out with a statement about this, I said Mr. “Obama has not stopped yelling at her, yet”.

Whomsoever wrote that Jefferson and Lincoln were hicks either knows better and is saying that for effect(dishonest) or he really doesn’t know his history and should go and read up. Whatever he may want to say about both Jefferson and Lincoln both these presidents(hick or otherwise) were educated.

Stephen,
The President cannot appoint a different VP. The VP is a constitutionally elected official. The only way a new VP can be appointed after the election is if the VP dies, resigns, or is impeached. So, it is important to know who is the VP on the ticket. Especially when the President on the ticket is a 72 year-old, multiple cancer survivor.

Thanks Former Democrat
OBAMA:
He is uniquely unqualified, what exactly are his qualifications? Everyone knows he is a socialist. What were the Dems thinking?
He’s ready to lead the war on terror in Afganistan, and knows the players in Pakistan’s new government well enough to finally get Bin Laden – dead or alive, NO?
He’s got a firm handle on the mortgage lending/banking crisis and that taxpayer funded Fannie Mae, NO?
Social Security reform, he has that all figured out, NO?
Health care, he’s an expert, NO?
He’s a leader in education, NO?
He’s got all kinds of proposals for turning around the economy, NO?
NO on all accounts?!?!? :-(
Literally no hope in leading on any of the major national or international issues facing America today?!!??!!? Looks like it.

Carol
When you have nothing positive to say about the democratic party just slam the other canidate of another party and their family for not having an abortion. Makes perfect sense to me. It just makes the democratic message that much better. When you make hateful remarks it just drives the nail of “Desperation we can’t win this election attitude”. Great strategy, but its been the whole parties attitude and I dont’t think I can just blame you.
Your logic Carol is that if I cant say anything positive about the democratic canidates, I will just slam the others and we will look better. Heck of an idea. I’m sure this will move you to the top of the democratic party. Carol, Americans want to hear facts and honest debate not hateful remarks.
Also Carol, be careful before you start slamming canidates about qualifications. I have yet to hear qualifications about Obama that would even make him any sort of presidential canidate. Community activist may be a qualification but it can’t be the only one.
Carol please keep the comments coming. Your sinking your own ship.

Obama said he was a community organization for four years. I was born and raised in Chicago lived her all my life and would like to know what area on the southside he did his organizing.
Obama lives in Hyde Park and I know that area well over 20 years ago when it was filthy and run down. It was so bad the bank had to close. But Obama lives in a mansion that is fenced in. And his good friend the bomber Ayers lives close by. And I was around when he went underground for several years until he came out of hiding and got arrested. He should have spent life in prison. And there are people who went to jail for less crimes than he did. For a college graduate Obama is dumb.

What’s good for the pitbull is good for the pig. A lot of lipstick talk going on around here. But where’s the substance? When is Palin going to talk ISSUES? She has nothing to say and will put her foot in her mouth every time she opens it if the McCain campaign lets her talk to the media. She’s an unintelligent puppet being operated by Karl Rove. All of this will blow over when the debates come around. Then we’ll see who is prepared to run this country. Good luck Palin and McCain. You’ll need it come October. As Obama has now begun to fight back, two polls are already trending back to Obama today. As for those so-called Hillary Democrats who plan to vote for McCain, they are not Democrats. Don’t believe them. Real Hillary supporters would never support Anti-Choice Republicans who want to trash the environment and take away everyone’s civil rights. Real Democrats will proudly vote for Obama no matter who the Republican is because it’s the right thing to do and the American thing to do. Be patriotic. Support our nation’s constitution. Vote for Obama, Americans!

I am a life-long Democrat who voted for Obama in my state’s primary.
I am old enough to remember when a woman did not have the right to choose to have an abortion. For years, I marched and sent money to NARAL in support of that right. But just as I still believe in that right, I also believe in the right of a woman to choose NOT to have an abortion.
While I do not share Governor Palin’s views on abortion, I respect her courage to act in accordance with her stated beliefs.
Fowler’s comment reflects such a lack of respect for women who believe as Palin does that I want to disassociate myself from Fowler and those who think like Fowler. So after 46 years of being a Democrat, I am going to become a registered Independent.
Whether I vote for Obama ever again remains to be seen.

If being educated is a qualification for, and represents a duty to run for governor of Illinois then all educated americans would do so and there would be many many millions of people running for that post(Ms Pepitone’s reasoning). Being educated is fairly common in the US especially as we have some of the best universities in the world. What is amazing is that from all the really qualified people McCain chose someone who so little represents the best that human kind has to offer. Matt Damon has it right.

Comments like this are negative and ignorant. Throwing insults like this out into the world accomplishes nothing.
Look, whether you are anti-abortion, or pro-life, one must applaud Palin’s decision to live-out her beliefs. In fact many of us should melt in admiration for her standing by her convictions.
In a world where half the celebrities buy their babies through surrogates rather than disfigure their size 1 bodies with stretch marks and saggy breasts, all of us should stand back and admire a woman who could have easily and quietly aborted her “special needs baby,” in order to make her life easy.
For those of us who have actually experienced pregnancy and lived with juggling work, taking care of other children and balancing life in general, let’s face it. Palin is an intimidating force! I’m now a stay at home mother of three teenagers and I can barely juggle my day.
I can’t even balance my own budget let alone that of an entire state! As for her critics regarding her pregnant daughter who by the way is close to being an adult, as a former Young Life Leader, I have worked with many pregnant teenagers from wonderful families. I applaud the fact that the Palin family is not hiding their daughter off at some private boarding school in Switzerland.
They are being fully human and fully imperfect. By bringing her daughter and her daughter’s fiance onto the stage at the RNC convention, she sent the most powerful message a mother could send her daughter and that is “I love you for who you are, not for what you do!”
Shame on anyone who stands in judgement of her daughter. Reality check…the one thing we do know about Sara Palin is that she is not a hypocrite!
Bottom line, Pailn is intimidating to all of us because she has done so much in her very young life beyond just being a mother of 5 which in and of itself would be impressive.
She is an amazing woman with and equally amazing record of numerous accomplishments. She makes me proud to be a woman. She inspires me to do more.
Whether I vote for the Mcain ticket or not, I can’t help but feel impressed with her past and encouraged by her very promising future.
Quite frankly, I think the Democrats are scared to death of Palin. Maybe because she is even more refreshing than Obama. She’s a man’s woman, she hunts, fishes, and can make tough decisions quicklybut at the same time she is a loving and devoted mother.
She is a living breathing paradox and she has turned the political world upside down. Turn on any television news show and it’s all about Sara.
The democrats are outraged because McCain’s brilliant choice has robbed Obama of his thunder right after the DNC convention.
Further, look at the polls. McCain’s rise in the polls continues and the more the media writes these ridiculous and scathing condemnations of Palin, the more it will polarize Obamas fan base and move them over toward McCain.
Many of my friends who were Clinton supporters are now jumping on the McCain Straight Talk train. They are outraged by the way in which the media portrayed Hillary and even more by the silence from the DNC with regards to the media offenses. Now once again, they are doing it again. I think woman have had enough!
The more the media appears to be on a witch hunt, the more you will see woman rally to a higher cause. Clearly sexism is magnified but no less real out in the work place for woman. Maybe Hillary’s 18,000,000 cracks in the glass ceiling should break through the ceiling for Palin?
I think this is more than a phenomenon. For all intensive purposes, the Republican party should be significantly behind in the polls.
Why are so many people threatened by Palin? Maybe because in a way she is an ordinary mother, woman, wife, sister, daughter and soon to be grandmother who has in fact done EXTRAORDINARY THINGS! She represents the best of who we can be and exemplifies the hope that we all have for our daughters in the future.
What Hillary did for helping construct the road wide open to the White House, Palin may just be the one who actually lays down the pavement!
Women can do anything…how dare they say otherwise!
As for McCain being accused of being stuck in a different era supposedly out of touch with the people of younger generations, many of us can now argue that his contrarian choice for VP shows vision, courage, and brilliance.
The media is demonstrating just how out of touch they are from the real American people since i have been on the phone calling friends all over the country and everyone I know whether they are Republican or Democrat, loves McCain’s choice.
Yesterday, I talked to an old guy at the coffee shop who is a democrat and he is voting for McCain because of Palin. My sister who lives in Pennsylvania told me that she and her friends are so excited they can’t stand it. They can hardly wait to vote for McCain.
My sister is in Real Estate and she talks to many people from all economic and political parties and she said everywhere you go everyone is talking about Sara Palin. She is very active in politics in Pennsylvania and she thinks McCain is going to win her state now.
Whatever happens, no one will ever forget this most unforgettable election!

With the assistance of Senator Jones, Mr. Obama helped deliver what is said to have been the first significant campaign finance reform law in Illinois in 25 years. He brought law enforcement groups around to back legislation requiring that homicide interrogations be taped and helped bring about passage of the state’s first racial-profiling law. He was a chief sponsor of a law enhancing tax credits for the working poor, played a central role in negotiations over welfare reform and successfully pushed for increasing child care subsidies.

We all know why mccain’s keepers picked Palin. Because they knew he couldn’t win on his own. He needs to have miss congeniality standing next to him – either with her mouth closed – or repeating her memorized lines. We also know why everyone is talking about Palin – because McCain doesn’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell of winning if the voters actually asked him about the issues. Wake up republicans – you’re being taken on yet another ride.

Why does Palin tell lies and half truths like the bridge to no where, or the half truth of the Jet on E-Bay which did not sell and Palin hired a broker to get ride of it. Maybe Palin will tell us why the government had to reimburse her husband and children for travel of government business. What did the Children do for the state that they were to get reimburse? Just because she chooses to live at her home instead of the Governors residence 600 miles away, why should the state be on the hook for the over 45,000.00 for 18 months? Maybe the jet does not look so bad now.

PALIN: “There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it’s easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state senate.”
FACT: The meaning of “major” is open to debate, but Obama worked with Republicans, including Sen. Richard Luger of Indiana, to pass legislation that would expand efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. While a state senator in Illinois, he sponsored two contentious bills, one that studied racial profiling by police and another that ordered interrogations in potential death penalty cases to be recorded.
But remember she is being told what to say, just like a good bit bull puppy.

Talk about a double standard!! Every one knows if John MCCain, Sarah Palin or any other Republican said something like this about a democrat, the media and the public would cry for their crucifixion. If Palin talked to anyone without the benefit of a prepared script or without John McCain there to intervene, it would become overwhelmingly clear how underqualified Palin is for Vice President. Doesn’t it scare you that with less than two months to go, we know next to nothing about the person running for second in charge on any issue of substance? With John McCain’s old agege and health problems, there is a realistic chance his Vice President could be required to take over.
Seriously people – there are far more qualified women out there than Sarah Palin for the executive leadership of America. Sarah Palin’s main skills include being able to field dress a moose and bark loud enough to distract Americans from tangible issues around which we should be electing our nation’s leaders – like the fact that the credit bubble created under the Republican administration is imploding, while we spent 3+ TRILLION dollars in Iraq. I’m tired of my hard earned tax dollars being used to line the pockets of wealthy oil executives and John McCain’s other cronies who own more houses than they can count. Why don’t we spend some of that money domestically on things that directly benefit America?? John McCain cheated on his first wife, so why wouldn’t he, Palin and the others cheat the American people? I’m not interested in a President who would be fun to have beers with or in the Vice President’s fashion sense (which are the issues the media seems to focus on) – I want a true global President who can lead and inspire this country out of our morass and towards its true potential. To me the choice is clearer than ever: Obama-Biden 2008!

Obviously, Carol Fowler is multiple-dimensional ignorance personified. The people she accuses as single-issue voters (pro- vs anti-abortion) like me actually consider many issues this November 2008. However, unlike miseducated Fowler, we have a QUALIFYING issue: protection of the pre-born. Why would we even consider a presidential candidate who can improve our economy but at the expense of murdering future Americans?

WhenElephantsFly – Abortion is not an issue in this election – democrats are just trying to scare voters into believing that a vote for McCain/Palin will automatically overturn Roe vs. Wade. The truth is, over the past 8 years, abortions have decreased as the need for them has decreased. The morning after pill has become standard treatment in rape cases, making accidental pregnancy from rape a non-issue (anyway, McCain actually agrees that rape is one expception where abortion should be allowed). Greater availability of birth control and and advances in contraceptive methods, along with education – teaching women that abortion should not be considered as a form of birth control – have helped too. Abortion will always be allowed, it doesn’t matter who’s in office – but if current trends continue, we could eliminate the need for it in most cases.

Obama and the DEMS who are strategizing need to switch gears immediately. This is not change; it’s gutter politics. Is this really how Dems want to win, when ISSUES should have been the wave carrying the DEMS into the White House? Obama had to tear down the Clinton legacy, had to tear down Hillary as a woman and her supporters, because the truth is he lacks experience in comparison. Other than the obvious physical differences, they are twin voters in the Senate. Now he is doing the same to the Republican VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE. Because, other than the trooper, library and bridge to nowhere incident; there is nothing; except issues. Obama has to destroy the threat. We as Americans have the right to have our own opinion… But we don’t have the right to force those opinions onto others… We all have choices, if you don’t like what’s on TV you have the power and choice to change the channel, you don’t like what’s on the radio you have the power and choice to change the station… If you don’t like who is representing you in your government you have the power and choice to do something about it… Work to create your own political party, one which is more in line with your beliefs and values… The great tragedy of this nation is the current two-party system, there isn’t much choice in who represents you in your government… Only you can change your government… Instead of wasting your energy on blogs like this, go out and do something for your country for your government… It’s your choice… You have the power to make a change…

Hey J.D., quit wasting your time on this blog. Or at least until you realize that democracy is simply the lesser of evils among the governmental systems of this world. It is not a panacea for positive change. And no, one person cannot make a difference. Only Someone who is much greater than any person-and all of humanity-can make positive change, both individually and corporately.
Posted by: Dan Garrison | September 10, 2008, 9:35 pm 9:35 pm
DG, I agree with all of your comments… This type of government will always be the lesser of all other evils… While ours is not a pure democracy and never conceivable could be one, the republic in which we live is run by those who we the people put into office, except of course the Oval Office… I think Ronald Reagan did a superb job of talking to the people not at them, and the people responded by changing congress allowing him to accomplish many great things… If we don’t like the way government is being run we change who represents us… But therein lay the choice and, albeit extremely limited, power to change things… One vote will not change an election no matter how glamorous Hollywood recently made it seem, but many votes from those who want change can take one corrupt politician out of office and insert one who will hopefully serve a good year before they too will succumb…

We are tired of being manipulated by Roe v Wade. When will women wake up and realize both parties have been using this as a way to control our vote. For that reason it will never be repealed.
If we really want to promote womens rights we need to support all women. Sarah Palin has not forced her religious beliefs on anyone. Obama, however has exhibited sexism throughout his campaign. As a Hillary Clinton volunteer, I was horrified by what I saw the Obama campaign and democrats do to her. I will not stand by and allow the same thing to happen to another woman. As Hillary stated; womens rights are human rights. Without human rights, there is no true democracy, and therefore empowering women trumps any political platform, right or left. We need to put aside our political beliefs this election and work to get a woman in office in order to promote ALL women’s issues. Only then will women attain equality and true democracy be possible.

But what is it with McCain and the desperate desire to rack up apologies?

Women’s Choice is an issue. Everyone must respect the rights of others to make their own choices. Roe – Wade should not be overturned.
I also have major concern about the sex education aspect as well. As a medical professional I feel all aspects need to be taught. Protecting the health and welfare of all is always foremost. I would never want to feel I gave someone a “death sentence” because of any personal belief I had. And I do say “death sentence” strongly. Abstinence only sex education will indeed be giving a “death sentence” to people. No arguments can change this bottom line strong fact. If you are religious I would think you too would want to do all to protect the young people. If not, then you must live with this reality.
Comments made by Democrat Chair were a little strong. But comments do ring true. I can see after my research that Sarah Palin will not support women rights.
I have also seen many of Sarah Palin’s views and stances lack scientific basis and appear to be very outdated way of thinking. Environmental issues are not good at all. Saw she wanted no regulation over toxic substance/pollution drainage from mines draining into salmon streams. And toxic substances go right into food chain. 10-30 years later people get ill, or die. She is asking for another Five Mile Island or Erin Brokevich -both horribly sad. Palin is actually worst than Bush.
List goes on – sadly. My excitement turned to disappointment when I checked all. I found she lied. She did not clean up corrupt politics in Alaska – FBI was doing long before she took office. She never started any of it, and State of Alaska is not doing any of investigation. FBI only did. Government there was been walking on egg shells since 2004. Sarah took office Nov, 2006. Sarah only rode the wave-no work or confronting the “good ole boys”. She does take claim though. Go google Alaska Political Corruption -
She is under investigation at present for ethics violation as Governor. Appears major problem pressuring police to fire her brother in-law, and then firing police commissioner because he was not fired. Saw agency/government documents and all looks quite suspicious. Heard audio tape that is evidence against her. My concern is if cover-up will occur now.
Lots more- just not going to address all
Sarah Palin is just too far to right.

Left wing democrats have such caring hearts.
Call their female opponent a pig.
Say she should have killed her special needs child.
Obama voted 3 times to kill the Protect the Born Infants act.
Regagan Democrats, what are you doing hanging around these people?

Fowler is absolutely correct. McCain had to appease Mullah Dobson and that’s why he picked Palin.

[Women's Choice is an issue. Everyone must respect the rights of others to make their own choices. Roe - Wade should not be overturned.]
Palin wants Roe v. Wade overturned and almost all abortions outlawed.

[We as Americans have the right to have our own opinion... But we don't have the right to force those opinions onto others... We all have choices]
Palin & McCain want to curtail women’s choices.

This is NOT true but it is what the GOP wants you to believe.

Does Sarah Palin think she is above the American people?
14 days and she has not answered a single question.

It appears that by wishing ill will on the Republican Party and their convention last week in the form of Hurricane Gustav, former Democratic Party Chairman Don Fowler is now having to witness his “curse having come home to roost” with the recent meltdown of the Democratic Party
His wife, Carol, now being the latest victim of that occurence.

Now that Palin is the RNC VP nominee, DEM Chair Fowler can find much more info online on Palin.
On the pro-life issues: when Palin ran for Governor of Alaska she was asked,
Q: If states could once again prohibit abortion, in your view, to what extent should abortion be prohibited in Alaska?
Palin: “it would not be up to the governor to unilaterally ban anything. It would be up to the people of Alaska to discuss and decide how we would like our society to reflect our values.”
Q: Do you support or oppose the use of public funds for abortion (e.g., paying for abortion, promoting abortion, subsidizing organizations that provide or refer for abortion)?
Palin: “I oppose the use of public funds for elective abortions”.

When this woman says to all you with a special needs children, be assured you will have a friend in white house. She’s in effect saying this present administration and past leaders both republican and democrats does not care about special need children’s of this country until she shows up suddenly. She is hiding under special need child to portray holier on that respect. She’s pandering using all means to get notice at all cost, even by her special need child, what a spectacles?

Again, comments like this reaffirms the liberal left is so out-of-touch with human respect and the laws of decency. They are beyond “trailer trash”!

Because Palin has been shielded from the media and non-softball questions, Fowler and the rest of us are forced to make assumptions on why she was selected.
She’s requested and received more earmark dollars per capita…so she wasn’t chosen for her hatred for earmarks.
She left the City of Wasilla in $20+ Million dollars in debt due to a sports complex that was illegally built…so she wasn’t chosen for fiscal responsibility.
She’s been Governor of Alaska for less than 2 years…so she wasn’t chosen for experience.
So all we are left with
A). Extreme religious beliefs (if it was God’s Will that we are in Iraq, it was God’s Will to have a hurricane during the RNC)
B). Civil liberties antagonist (book banning, anti-choice, abstinence only and creationism education)
C). Personal struggles and abuses of power
D). Sex appeal
Persoanlly, I think McCain chose Palin based on looks, because the rest of her scares the crap out of me.
Posted by: Heather | September 11, 2008, 8:29 am 8:29 am
Fowler’s comments are no more or less offensive than the crap coming out of the McCain/Rove campaign on a daily basis. If the McCain camp wants to put a fake “sexism” card, then the Democrats should joyfully start playing a real “sexism” card with McCain’s positions on issues effecting women.
We don’t even need to get into his personal views, comments, insults or jokes about women. Let’s talk about his ducking a vote on “equal pay for equal work.” Let’s highlight his opposition to the expanding the SCHIP Program to include parents. Let’s talk about how a single mom with an average income spends about 40% of it on child care. Let’s talk about not only his opposition to abortion rights but also to family planning.

I’ve never voted a straight Republican ticket, but the more the Democrats open their mouths, the more likely that scenario becomes.

That would be one qualification of many that she did not murder an innocent child.
True contrast on these two tickets on the right you got 2 people that believe in the sanctuary of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and on the left you have 2 people that will allow babies to die on a cart in a waste room all becasue they cant vote, they want to take away our freedom and make themselves happy!!

I don’t get it.
When Karl Rove made news saying that McCain needed to pick a pro-life, anti-abortion VP candidate it didn’t get this much attention.
McCain’s views on many issues vary from mine, however, unless Palin speaks for herself and answers some hard questions, I guess I’ll have to assume that the Republican ticket will continue to skirt the issue.
Pun, intended.

Obama and this year’s DNC has ruined our chances of taking back the White House and you know what…I’ve learned to deal with it. If McCain/Palin win it our country will have its first Women VP and that’s pretty amazing too!

How about Jessie Ventura for Prez!!!…………………………………………………………………………..makes the same sense as John/Sarah. We saw what a “C” student did for the USA. Now we want a bottom feeder in the top spot? He had such character and loyalty as a POW…..so much…….that he cheated on his wife who said she would have waited for him forever, and he left her. Great family values and great example to follow for all the people everywhere. He is not to blame for the S&L scandal……………….right, OK.

trooper gate, they are requesting subpoena’s to question her aides and Husband. First for the Bridge to no where and then agaist, ban books, fire anyone that does not agree with her, Pork money she requested, She put the Jet on e-bay but it did not sell an then hired a broker to sell it. Changed her state money for being at home, reinbursted her husband and children for state business. All facts and you can research it for yourselves. And yes the Librarian was fired but rehired when crap hit the fan. Women are still angry with Palin for firing her Brother in laws boss, the one she was praising for helping with women’s issue this just two month before she fired him for not getting rid of her brother in law. Kills animals from a helicopter for sport.

$200 million in federal earmarks she has sought as Alaska governor
Posted by: USCITZEN_04 | September 12, 2008, 5:24 pm 5:24 pm
• While she was mayor of the small town of Wasilla, Alaska, Palin hired a lobbyist to seek federal money for special projects. Wasilla obtained 14 earmarks, totaling $27 million, between 2000-2003, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan watchdog group that monitors federal spending.
• As governor, Palin has asked for 31 earmarks worth $197 million for the 2009 fiscal year. State budget documents show that the state requested 52 earmarks worth $256 million for the 2008 budget year.

Anyone see the Rasmussen Poll? It’s McCain 48% and Obama 45%. Don’t know where you saw that it was reversed on the same site! Look at all the state by state polls. Look at all the swing states and the “leaners” for Repubs are switching to “safe”! Now, McCain is up on electoral votes by about 7!!!!
Woohoo! Those of you who believe Palin did not rattle the dems cage are living on another planet. Even Wolfson and other Dems, like Doug Shoen are saying the Dems do not know what to do about this. Top Fundraisers for Obama are saying the same thing. They are even saying that Obama is “off his game” talking even more stupidly than before. THey are rattled and I believe what the others are saying. The Dems are just watching the White House slip further and further away from them and they should have picked Hillary!!!!! These comments are ALL coming from Dems!!

These time and this election is scary, for everyone. But it doesn’t matter to you, you continue to attack. If this upsets you, then I am talking to you. Sad, unaware, entitled and gross. Shut up and just vote, deal with what happens, help others and do something. Your opinions will not matter in the generations to come, only your actions. If you want change then do something and hopefully you will realized that attacking is not going to help.

Domestic Violence is a crime and in most states that trooper would have been locked up after he tazered his ten year old kid. If anybody thinks otherwise is a hypocryte.
That Commissioner in Alaska should have been fired and his state trooper too.
That Commissioner has put Gov Palin and her family at risk. In Washington State nobody stopped Police Chief Brame when he treatened his wife and then he shot her and himself with his police revolver. That Trooper should still be locked up and his tazer and his weapons be taken away from him.
