Seemingly Nervous About Palin’s Popularity, New Obama TV Ad Attacks McCain, Palin as Un-Mavericky
The Obama campaign is issuing a response TV ad to McCain’s "Mavericks" ad released this morning. (Linked to in previous post.)
Want evidence the Obama campaign is worried about Gov. Sarah Palin? Look no further than this ad, which attacks her, too.
Here’s the script:
Obama VO: I’m Barack Obama and I approved this message.
ANNOUNCER: They call themselves mavericks. Whoa. Truth is … they’re anything but. John McCain is hardly a maverick … when 7 of his top campaign advisors are Washington lobbyists. He’s no maverick when he votes with Bush 90 percent of the time.
ANNCR: And Sarah Palin’s no maverick, either. She was for the bridge to nowhere before she was against it.
(This shows a picture of Palin, campaigning for governor, holding up supportively a Bridge to Nowhere-supporting T-shirt.)
ANNCR: Politicians lying about their records?
(This shows the headline: “A NAKED LIE” – The New Republic, 9/08/08)
ANNCR: You don’t call that maverick … you call it more of the same.

Obama is running scared and it shows. He is trying to now get Bill Clinton on board but somehow I think the Clinton’s are in it for a payback for calling Bill a racist. Like McCain or not I think he qualifies as a maverick.

I think a more effective ad would be Obama talking about the time he thought about joining the military. Cap it off with how running for president makes you qualified to be president. That should sway the independants!

I thought Obama says he never makes negative attacks but then Obama lives in denial. This latest TV Ad is but one of dozens that Obama says he does not do. McCain and Palin are to Mavericky that Obama will never understand such a concept. What Obama knows is that Obama understands paying back those that put you in office like FNM/FAE by giving the CEOs that made $200-300 million salaries with a $2 billion bailout. Pelosi, Obama and Biden voted for the Bailout. The bridge to no where, Obama and Biden voted for the bridge. Now Obama is saying Palin initially said yes but in the end voted against it. It seems Obama does not understand “executive leadership” in the same way Obama wanted Russia to talk to Georgia. Too bad Russia in the UN has a veto that Obama and his 305 advisors did not know this well known fact to anyone with basic government knowledge.

Great reply, no lie will make it this time around. America does not need a Taliban regime which McSame and Palin want to put in place. They have exploited Sarah’s two children: her son with Dawn syndroma dn her teenage pregnant daughter and want to run away from WBush and Cheney. Being maverick is not going back to christian radicalism. No McCain, No Palin. God save America from the extremists. Great OBAMA/BIDEN08

This is not good, don’t even put it on the air because I sincerely believe it will bring ridicule. I am angry with you, but I can’t stand the poor judgement of this ad, drop it. You have REAL ISSUES AT YOUR FINGERTIPS; why are you so resistant to the REAL ISSUES? This is where you should FOCUS. Oh yeah, PUT HILLARY ON, JOE WILL UNDERSTAND, GOOD DEM THAT HE IS. Do it. “did you know that michelle obama essentially implied that Hillary was unfit to be President because Bill cheated on her”
Here’s the quote
MICHELLE OBAMA: That one of the most important things that we need to know about the next President of the United States is, is he somebody that shares our values? Is he somebody that respects family? Is a good and decent person? So our view was that, if you can’t run your own house, you certainly can’t run the White House. So, so we’ve adjusted our schedules to make sure that our girls are first, so while he’s traveling around, I do day trips. That means I get up in the morning, I get the girls ready, I get them off, I go and do trips, I’m home before bedtime. So the girls know that I was gone somewhere, but they don’t care. They just know that I was at home to tuck them in at night, and it keeps them grounded, and, and children, the children in our country have to know that they come first. And our girls do and that’s why we’re doing this. We’re in this race for not just our children, but all of our children.”
Only someone feeling guilty about their own actions would feel this was directed at them. McCain probably felt attacked.

However, I can’t believe that with all the pompous touting of his supporters being higher ed, that he and all his backers believed Clinton supporters would just fall in line, because of “where else are they going to go?” Well, to make sure you don’t get to go where you thought you deserved to be placed, WH. You’re being TOLD. So let me tell you, MAKE HILLARY VP!!!!! What have you got to lose? Have a huge rally with Biden being a hero wanting to create unity steps aside, with a loving speech. As someone else said above, I am also scared of this Obama guy. I will be voting for the first time in November and I feel so sad that I do not have a trustworthy democratic presidential candidate to vote for. I really liked Hillary Clinton and I feel that she and her supporters were cheated from securing her nomination.
After eight terrible years of Bush/Cheney, I believe USA deserves a good, patriotic, and experienced president with a solid Christian and American values. Barack Obama (with his muslim middle name) will never be the right man. Obama (not to mention his anti-American angry wife and hateful pastor) has too much garbbage and too many questionable associations that should disqualify him from seeking the highest office of the land. I am so shocked to see the democratic party and its top leaders working hard to secure his nomination. I know they will pay a heavy price on election day in November.
Since Barack Obama has miserably failed to convice me about:
1. his American origin and values
2. his Christian faith
3. his close association with people like Rezko, Ayers, and Rev. Wright
4. his alcohol and drug use
5. his shady dealings in Chicago politics
6. his philosophy about money and politics, etc.
I will never vote for him. I am an independent woman who strongly believes in America and her values and I know my country deserves a much better person for president than the shallow and opportunist Barack Hussein Obama.

Barack Obama is quite correct.
I have checked Sarah Palin. Bridge to Nowhere fact is true. Read it all over up in Alaska. Also go to Fact Check.org. She also lied about a few other things! She is taking claim to fame for cleaning up Alaska Corrupt Politics. Not true! Go Google Alaska Political Corruption. FBI Investigation started 2004. First FBI raid of legislators offices August, 2006. Sarah Palin elected Governor Nov, 2006. Her campaign was run for “change.” Her state government was not involved in doing investigation, not allowed to investigate by FBI. Sarah Palin did not start, did not do any of investigation, just had to coply with FBI. She just rode wave, all legislators were on alert! FBI in Anchorage from Washington – whole investigation out of Washington was handliing. As a few legislators said – Palin stretching truth she cleaned all corruption up.
FBI indicted REPUBLICAN PARTY RESPONSIBLE FOR ALASKA CORRUPTION. 11 LEGISLATOR INDICTED. ONE DEMOCRAT OFFICE RAIDED IN AUG, 2006 & NOT INDICTED.
McCain – Palin are not change!! Period!!
America is disaster under Republicans!!! Wake up everyone – doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize Republicans will lie to win this election – then if they do – lie to us some more!! Lie to America about going to war again?? Our national depth is worst in the whole history of our country!! More Republican Rule could very well bring America down.
Has anyone listened to all the news past few days?? Sunday another bank closed, Friday worst unemployment 6.1% in five years, Sunday bailout of Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae. And there are more dismal reports as well.
McCain – Palin are just more of same.

DNC and democratic leaders under-estimated the “bubba vote”,when they
nominated Obama……
“Bubba vote is a very large group
of voters,working class whites,who they
don’t vote on primaries, but they vote
in november elections…..
Those voters vote for president with
certain values,regardless of the party.
Mostly are conservatives with values as
religion,guns,country first,strong
defense and foreign policy,low taxes,
small government,independents,leaning
republicans……
McCAIN/PALIN ’08 ticket reflects
my values……..

only thing I would have added is who those 7 lobbyists are and what they are doing
Grammm
the guy who pushed through this banking housing mess deregulation… the literal champion of it
yeah what’s he doing writing mcCain’s economic platform on how to deal with the economy…choke
before he was officially unofficially officially representing him on his team.
Scheunnemann – mcCain’s lead foreign policy advisor the guy who was representing Georgia as a lobbyist emboldening the president of Georgia as people like Joe Biden were asking the president of Georgia to back down on his tongue wagging at Russia because he was going to cause an international incident… Scheunneman telling the guy “oh dont’ worry America will back you up …do what you want”…meanwhile this behemoth monster of a growing Russian threat…is breathing down as the President of georgia is throwing rocks at it right or wrong in essence making the situation worse…
and he served of course on the lobbyist committee “The Committee for the Liberation of Iraq” a groupd that mcCain was honorary co chair …that Cheney and Bush set up… which their press spokesperson at the time now says was the PR structure set up to sell the war…
the members of which received the biggest contracts out of Iraq…
and whom make up almost the entire Mccain foreign policy team now….
the list goes on … and just gets worse…
and THIS is McCain’s leadership team…yeah…that’s change.

Since Alaska had to cough out 329 MM dollars Palin decided not to go for the bridge. That clearly explains her filp flop. They were in such dire budget deficit that Palin had to sell the plane through a broker to get some money (plane was not sold on the Ebay as she proudly claims).

None of that matters to these people who are pissed off that Hillary is not the candidate. I was a die hard Clinton backer but ISSUES are what matters not voting against everything Hillary stood for.
A vote for McCain is a slap in the face to Hillary. If you really care about this country and the issues there is no way you could support McCain and Palin. This spite vote is ridiculous.
How will you explain it to your kids when there is no food on the table or gas in the car because you can’t afford it. Or when you young sons and daughters get sent into another war.

I think the lobbyists were hand me downs from Bush and Cheney…to make a smooth transition
they also are assisted by the team that brought us the “wall of silence”
same team same tactics
make national decisions based on a small group of hawkish billionaires…and when the mistakes happen
call fire on the press using things like patriotism, national defense and now sexism…
scruipt the witnesses and hide them until they have secured the 30 second sound bite on the issuues…
do not let them answer questions of the press or follow ups…
this is all a straight continuation of the tactics that got us here…
the last 8 years…
lobbyists calling the shots and the money…
covering of
wmd
katrina failures
energy meetings behind closed doors
Cheney Libby and Rove tactics
judicial appointments
chronyism covers
mission accomplished backtracks
hide …cover…smoke…
lie
all the way to Palin pick and jets that weren’t sold for a profit or on ebay…

As I read some of the post here, it becomes very clear, that some of you think this is a game. One thing to keep in mind that no matter who wins, and who loses, ALL of these people will go back to their lives, their jobs and they have health insurance, and no matter, how they got their home, or how many homes they may have, they are likely to KEEP THEM! It is very sad that, we are ALWAYS trying to tell other countries what to do , and how to do it,yet here in this country there is still hate, based on the color on a mans skin. And no one is against a women being in any office, but if you vote for one simply because she is a women, that’s just dumb. So while you make the negative post about the candidates, I hope you are really thinking about yourself and your family. This is your chance to excercise your voting power and a chance to make difference in your own lives.
SO BE SELFISH, ASK YOURSELF, WHAT WILL I/or MY FAMILY GET OUT THE DEAL?

Obama is showing himself to be an extremely argumentative person with an enormous sense of self-righteousness. On this, he makes George W. Bush look like a choirboy. Obama will argue endlessly over the most trivial, unimportant things. He was extremely rude during the debates, making sure he got to speak whenever he felt like, rules be damned. McCain is playing him like a cheap violin, standing back out of the way while Obama exposes more and more of the undesirable personality traits he has. Obama just can’t help himself. Periodically, when he’s feeling down, his claws come out and he flails away at everything in sight. Obama is easily rattled. Too easily rattled, I might add, to be President.

Obama, Dean & Pelosi are seeing those chickens come home to roost. If you diss your party’s largest constituency (women), what do you expect to happen? Oh right: “the new coalition” (liberal elites and the “50 state strategy” meant they didn’t need women any more. And women said: “Fine. You don’t need us, we don’t need you.”

Folks here is what happened Bridge to Nowhere from information I have found. Palin does have one Alaska government spokesperson who is pro – Palin and fiercely loyal and is being interviewed by news media. Have found she is not always quite correct. She supported Palin on this. Not true statement the experts, who have investigated say.
(1)SArah Palin supported and ran on Bridge to Nowwhere for her election
(2)She continued support after elected
(3)Then when Washington word was it was going to be dropped – caution set in. Also Washington legislators were concerned about all the earmarked money Alaska was getting from Government- all began to change. FBI was in Alaska – corruption!!! Hint!! Hint!! None other than indicted Stevens warned her!!
(4)Washington seemed to turn down. Sarah stopped support. Unknown yet – if Sarah made announcement of non-support first or Washington acted first.
(5)She did keep some $25,000,00 though.
(6)She did not start new bridge as she claimed in her acceptance speech. Nothing started. Unless she wants to do like she did as mayor of Wasilla when she started a sport complex on land city did not own/have legal title to land. Wasilla is still in litigation over this major mayorial screwup. Palin gives different view , but lawyers there with city say differently)
Palin is attractive and well spoken. I was excited about her. Foirst Republican woman!! But all became disappointment soon – after I started my search in Alaska, etc. One piece of information I find interesting is how her voter approval rating is so high – 80%- but considering corruption & FBI & 11 legislators indicted & state gets lots of money from oil – I understand this approval rating. All state government has been on very good behavior – FBI investigation is still ongoing!!! Government up there walking the line!! And Government not doing investigation!

He was the one who would change the government, if given the chance. He painted Hillary as the same old Washington. He painted McCain that way too. So what if they had made a difference in the world, they were not new, they were just like every other bad person that Obama could think of. THEN…Palin! Not only was she a fresh face, new to Washington but SHE HAD ALREADY STARTED TO CHANGE THE WORLD!
Palin has proven that Obama had the chance to make a difference in his short time in politics and instead he did nothing. Oh wait he did vote “present” 130 times while in the senate.

Good ad. Short. Accurate. Let the people hear the facts. It is a fact that Palin supported the Bridge to Nowhere, and then changed her mind when it was no longer popular. It is a fact that McCain’s team is heavily loaded with lobbyists and Bush advisers. There is no disputing the facts. So, while the McCain campaign may come out with a counter ad, it will be one that changes the topic… it won’t address these two facts.

The back-and-forth among bloggers here is vicious. I understand that emotions are intense. But, I assure you that both campaigns are run by professionals who are polling and making calculated judgments on how to best make their case. We should be spending time being more thoughtful and evaluating real information. This nonsense about who is scared and who is going to wipe who in debates is sort of useless to a more productive dialogue and decision-making about the future of our country. We should demand more of our politicians… but, ultimately a democracy depends on we the people. Can we be more civilized and provide meaningful commentary.

Palin has cut back on pork-barrel project requests, but in her two years in office, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. And as mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million.

I feel that I don’t know Palin at all. After all, before her, the newest commodity was Obama, but even he has been under the spotlight for 19 months during a very rigorous primary campaign. In contrast, Palin is a complete unknown. To be honest, I never heard of her before McCain chose her. Therefore, I think Gibson has a key role to play (and, it is only further underscored by the fact that access to Palin seems so limited). so, since it is unclear when, and even if, more accessibility will be provided, I hope Gibson addresses a few key questions:
* what does Palin consider to be her most significant accomplishments as mayor of Wasila and governor of Alaska?
* what would she like to accomplish in the first four-years of a McCain administration? what issues attract her interests? what does she see as her potential role in a McCain administration?
* about her apparent flip-flop on the Bridge to Nowhere. Is it a flip-flop? If so, would she like to re-word her speeches in any way to be more accurate?
* I’d like to know her view on abortion. If a teenager becomes pregnant, should she have a choice to keep the baby. We understand what her personal feelings are, but what should the country’s policy be? Would she favor overturning Roe v. Wade?
* We understand that she is in favor of drilling in ANWAR. Would she be interested in expanding that to any off-shore site in the US? To what extent does she believe that this supply of oil could make us independent of the Middle East? Will it relieve 10%, 50%, 90% of our dependence?
* Is it accurate that she has sought out (successfully) federal money for projects in Wasila? Does she feel that such fundraising is inappropriate? Would she be in favor of, as John McCain has said, “vetoing any bill with pork in it”?

Palin favors contraception being taught in school along with abstinence. She is against abortion unless it would save the life of the mother. She is not for completely eliminating abortion- that would be in conflict with her stated position.

It is not. As the bridge got more and more expensive, she favored less costly alternatives and came to believe it was not the right solution.

McCain has a history that frequently challenged his own party.
Obama never has challenged his own party.
McCain is much more moderate and has been over the last 20 years.
Obama is THE most liberal member of the US Senate.
The campaign notwithstanding, this is how they are likely to govern. It’s not what you say you are, it’s what you have done.
McCain has taken no earmarks. Obama took $740 million in earmarks last year, gave to Michelle’s employers after she a got a big raise.
That’s not in debate.

Frankly I can’t see what difference it will make who actually wins the election if as predicted, the US dollar plunges to the value of monopoly money, considering that it’s being printed without any standard backing. If McSame wins however, he will have Annie Oakley there taking out her moose-gun to protect him from the public who will be enraged by the loss of their homes and their inability to even buy food with the severely devalued dollar.
Whosoever wins will most probably not see their term out in the resulting social unrest, however a Republican government would probably be much more effective and brutal in suppression of any resulting public insurrection.
The collapse of the US $ is considered inevitable, because even if the iraqi adventure is terminated, the 3.5 trillion $ the US has accumulated in international debt will be impossible to resolve or at least will leave a pitiful legacy that will take many future generations of Americans to pay off.
I do however feel so sorry for the poor & middle classes who will be fatally hurt by losing everything they own. The GOP & corporation executives responsible for the whole financial mess will no doubt survive by swiftly converting their assets into Euro and stashing it into Swiss Bank accounts.
I do not think that even Obama will be capable of rescuing the US from the predicted calamity, but with a McCain continuance of an financially unsustainable war policy a $ crash will be surely guaranteed.

I just don’t get Republicans. Your country has sufferred a lot because of your very own party and now you people want to dig in to a deeper hole of economic adversities. If USA flunk it is because of their own people. There is somebody who has a comprehensive plan since the beginning of the campaign on how to fix the country, and there is this old wrinkle guy with one of his feet is already in the graveyard, lies, tries to mimic the other person plans and invented himself as somebody else to get elected, and you Republicans choose the wrinkle guy, with nothing to offer.
I think Americans are smarter than this. Loyal to your party is something, but loyal to the future of your country should be first.
