The Note: New Questions Dog McCain-Palin Ticket
ABC News’ Rick Klein reports in Tuesday’s Note:
ST. PAUL, Minn. —
What did John McCain know, and when did he know it?
We will get a full Republican National Convention back, starting Tuesday. (Sen. Joe Lieberman and former Sen. Fred Thompson help get us from telethon to television — and President Bush will get his address via satellite, for better and worse, while Rudy Giuliani gets bumped to another night.)
But even if we didn’t get back on track, just think of what we’ve been through together already. A storm blew through St. Paul, Monday — and there was a hurricane you may have heard about, too.
And behind the news about Gov. Sarah Palin’s daughter (biology as pushback?) is a pregnant series of questions about Sen. John McCain: Did he know, really and fully, what he was getting into? Does his campaign regret the choice, even a little bit? What does all of this say about his judgment?
(How many more stories before Palin = “Northern Exposure,” and how long a trip is it from there to Tom Eagleton/Harriet Miers territory?)
Read the rest of The Note — and get all the latest on the 2008 election, Congress, the White House and the wide world of politics every day — from Rick Klein by bookmarking this link.
(And while we’re waiting for those answers — Sen. Barack Obama will be George Stephanopoulos’ exclusive headliner Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.”)
It was a good political day to dump Palin information, as Gustav wasn’t quite dumping its wrath on the Gulf Coast. But this starts to add up:
“Among other less attention-grabbing news of the day: it was learned that Ms. Palin now has a private lawyer in a legislative ethics investigation in Alaska into whether she abused her power in dismissing the state’s public safety commissioner; that she was a member for two years, in the 1990s, of the Alaska Independence Party, which has, at times, sought a vote on whether the state should secede; and that Mr. Palin was arrested 22 years ago on a drunken driving charge,” Elisabeth Bumiller writes in The New York Times.
“We are going to flush the toilet,” new McCain-Palin aide Tucker Eskew (yes, THE Tucker Eskew) tells the Times.
Things Team McCain may have wanted done, say, last week: “Aides to Mr. McCain said they had a team on the ground in Alaska now to look more thoroughly into Ms. Palin’s background,” Bumiller reports. “A Republican with ties to the campaign said the team assigned to vet Ms. Palin in Alaska had not arrived there until Thursday, a day before Mr. McCain stunned the political world with his vice presidential choice.”

So what are considered relevant and worthy attacks on Governor Palin? National politics is a brutal business – and Gov Palin had no idea what she was subjecting her family to. ………….

Sarah Palin even lied about being named “Miss Congeniality”. Amy Gwin won the title, not Ms Palin. Sounds like this family has serious issues. Maybe Dr. Phil would be winning to help.

geevil, your political leader is facing another blunder, his first choice after being presumptive nomminee is another lack of judgement with his selection of a Paulin as VP candidate, a clear and real demonstration of his incapacity to lead the greatest nation on earth. McSame or McWBush was trying to please the evangelical base and now he is in deep trouble because of his misjudgement.

The President of the United States appoints over 6,000 positions in the government. With the level of vetting done on Palin, there is no way I’d trust the McCain camp to vet them.
Posted by: johnTX | September 2, 2008, 9:39 am 9:39 am
I guess this is part of the vetting process. If hypocrisy exists for any reason on any issue, it should be divulged, but I do hope they leave the daughter alone.

It’s so nice to see Democrats attack women vociferously. So much for a woman’s right to “choose” life. I guess to Democrats “choice” is about as meaningful as the word “change.” Ah well, go ahead ladies, eat your own, and put another padlock on that glass celing. Only you can’t blame the men this time. Hypocrites!

geevil:”Obama and the MSM will regret messing with Maverick and the Barracuda.”
Can you offer ANY cite of Obama “messing with” Palin over any of the dirt coming out – the pregnancy, ongoing troopergate, her husband’s dui, etc? All I have heard is him stating quite bluntly it’s not relevant, following up with a promise to fire anyone in his campaign caught pushing it, and even pointing out that he himself was the son of an 18 year old.
It is blatant lying to say that Obama is pushing this, just as it would be blatant lying to say McCain is pushing the absurd “he’s a muslim sleeper agent!!1!!1″ crap slung in the outer reaches of the right’s blogosphere.

It would be nice (but impossible) for the media to give Obama the same king of vetting they are giving Sarah Palin.
The media is for free speech but do not mention Obama’s efforts to squash free speech by trying to prevent an investigation into his relationship with Ayers and the Anneburg Challange.

argh! “It’s so nice to see Democrats attack women vociferously.”
Really? This is an attack on all women, by all Democrats? Perhaps you should consider looking at REALITY for a moment:
In the House there are 74 female Representatives. The Senate has 16 females.
Of the 16 female Senators, 11 are Democrats and 5 are Republicans. Of the 74 female Representatives, 53 are Democrats and 21 are Republicans.
Yet Democrats are padlocking the glass ceiling? Please. jhw
Why can’t Republican’s push what’s good about their candidate rather than fling mud at the opposition? Isn’t there ANYTHING good about their ticket to talk about (other than being a POW in the last century)?
Posted by: jhw539 | September 2, 2008, 10:02 am 10:02 am
This has moved past inappropriate to sad. The media has focused all efforts now on discussing -
- How inappropriate it is to discuss the pregnancy and candidates’ families.
- How chivalrous Obama was in declaring families out of bounds.
- How McCain must not have known about this.
Could this possibly be more front-and-center now, after all these “efforts” to not dwell on it.
Let’s talk about how it takes a family support network in times like this. And if the Palin family can accomplish that in the throes of the campaign, hats off to them. Distracting them and the public by making their teen pregnancy a national issue is nothing more than politics as usual. Sad indeed.

Incredible. Maybe McCain IS right – enough Americans have finally been dumbed down for this kind of thing to actually work.
His poor choice has reduced our national debate from issues like war, the economy and corruption in government and on Wall Street to “unwed teenage mothers need love.”
Cry for our beloved country.

John McCain should be running a bait shop instead of running for president. If he thought that just baiting all the women that voted for Hillary with just any woman would get him all the Hillary supporters votes he is sadly mistaken. I feel this is the ultimate insult to the judgement of the women voters. What next if John McCain becomes president, he is certain to take away a woman’s right to choose, he may even try to take a woman’s right to vote, far fetched, look at how Bush has trampled on our civil liberties. Believe me Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton and John McCain will be a disaster if he becomes president of this country!!

“This is pure Alexrod/Obama. they did the same thing to Clinton. Not everyone has forgotten that.”
LOL. Axelrod and Obama went up to Alaska and forced poor Sarah Palin to mismanage funds in Wasilla, take hundreds of millions of dollars in pork-barrel spending from Washington DC, marry a drunk driver, unethically fire a public safety officer, join a pro-secessionist political party and call her political rival the b-word? Wow, if Axelrod/Obama have that kind of power, I want them in the White House. They make things happen!!!
In all seriousness, THIS is misogyny – refusing to judge a woman by the same standards you would judge a man. Sarah Palin is barely fit to be dog catcher, and that would be true if her name were Stanley Palin.

It is amazing the scrutiny that people put on a female candidate all in the name of vetting or some other excuse.
Get a life. Give the Palin’s some privacy. Her daughter is not running for VP. Sarah Palin is not your typical person, preaching morality and doing something else. To me this woman epitomizes “living by the principles she beilieves in”
In the name of disclosure, let me state that I am male and a life long democrat – except this election cycle, I will be voting for the team that has put:

Responsibility BEFORE Privilege !!!
Shown the gumption to take on entrenched forces within their own party.

Did some one say Bristol Palin is 17 years old? How old is the boyfriend of her love child? Does he have a US Passport?
Alaska statutory rape laws declare that anyone who is 18 years old or older who has sex with a person who is 16 or 17, or who is at least three years younger than the offender, can be charged with sexual abuse in the third degree. This is also a felony.
Alaska statutory rape laws carry punishments that include imprisonment and fines.
Under Alaska law, health-care practitioners like doctors and nurses, plus teachers, counselors and a whole list of other professionals must report sex between a minor and an adult if it comes to their attention. To fail to do so is a misdemeanor.

Palin belonged to AIP for 2 years in the 90s. Obama belonged to Trinity Church for 20 years till this year.
Guilt by association?
From Wikipedia:
The Alaskan Independence Party is a political party in the U.S. state of Alaska. Its best-known policy is its call for a United Nations vote, which they claim should have been offered as an option in the plebiscite on statehood under international law. Ideologically a constitutional foundation, the party also calls for increased Alaskan control of Alaskan land, gun rights, privatization, home schooling, and reduction of governmental intrusion in the private lives of its citizens with adherence to the founding documents of the United States. The party has appeared on the ballot in Alaska in all state elections since 1970.
At other times, party members have also proposed that the state explore the possibility of joining Canada. Other members have expressed opposition to joining Canada in its present form but are open to the possibility of joining an independent Western Canadian state in the event one should be established. Neither of these scenarios form part of the party’s current platform.
At the national level, the party is affiliated with the conservative Constitution Party.[2]

susie: “by TRYING to prevent an investigation into his relationship with Ayers and the Anneburg Challange.”
So (you claim) Obama “tried” to quash an investigation into an education promotion effort he was on the board of. So the investigation occurred – what were the results? What are the FACTS that were turned up? Or are they exactly as uninteresting as Obama originally stated (he served on the board and one of the members was a widely respected Chicago professor of education who was a casual acquaintance)? Quit flinging mud and try to bring a fact or two to the table. Even better, perhaps a reason why we SHOULD vote for McCain/Palin rather than a completely unverified rumor slandering the Obama/Biden ticket.

Watch him on CNN….this is what he said OVER AND OVER AGAIN yesterday. AND, it was the McCain campaign that disclosed the story because they knew it was going to come out with all the digging the media was doing checking her out. After all, in my opinion we ought to know everything about those running for the highest and second highest offices. Go ahead and check more into Ayers…this has come out already (over and over again) there’s really nothing there. Go ahead and bring it up again and again…who cares…it’s all out…make your own judgment. Now, let’s find out more about this Palin person.

According to the esteemed Tucker Eskew (on CNN), Sarah Palin has foreign policy experience solely because she commanded a unit of the National Guard. Does this consequently make McCain, Obama, and Biden inexperienced? Following this election would be a lot more fun if John McCain actually hired aides who could muster up an intelligent argument instead of political kindergartners.

They want to kill her before she gest a chance to get a fair chance. They did it to Hillary(pushed her out before she could may be win), and very astutely. I mean they Ruthlessly turned Hillary into a racist of all things!! They sure can make things like that happen, sometimes very quietly and behind the scenes, and trough others while the main guy makes himself look good for the TV. Damm right, I have not forgaten how they did Hillary in. Yes, clearly Os supporters are taking this woman apart piece by piece; he just gets to sit back and watch. I thought it was funny how on CNN he said he had more experience than this woman, who IS NOT the top of the ticket, because he had more employees and a bigger budget for his campaign!! I mean how ridiculous is that . . .LOL

Probably helping in reducing stress and substituting for VIAGRA.

Jim: “But let a Republican be the target and reporters begin throwing mud.”
Reporters did not mention a peep of this until the McCain campaign put out a press release on the issue. Are you seriously suggesting they should have ignored the campaign’s own announcement? The campaign used the hard-left’s rumor mongering as an excuse to air this dirty laundry when it would receive as little play as possible (labor day, Gustav).
Honestly, I suspect that the McCain campaign started the nasty left rumors to give this story the best possible play (and make the hard-left bloggers look like the blowhards they are). Sorta like a teen returning his dad’s borrowed car by saying he totaled it car and his sister is in the hospital – just kidding, but I did scratch the door.

“John Edwards had an affair, but that was off limits too. But let a Republican be the target and reporters begin throwing mud.”
When John Edwards affair was made public on August 8, all the cable news networks–especially the Republican fake news network, FOX–were all over the story. It was hardly “off limits.” They milked that story for all it was worth–for several days.
As for Palin, I’m a Democrat and I don’t care that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant. It’s NON-ISSUE. But if this 17-year-old knocked-up daughter was a Democrat’s child, the Republicans would be using that as campaign fodder, saying that Democrats don’t have any “family values.”

How does this ticket show the gumption to take on entrenched forces within the party?
It’s been widely reported that McCain wanted to pick Lieberman or Ridge and was told by his party that he couldn’t do that. So he chose Palin at the last minute.
She was for the bridge until Congress wouldn’t pay for all of it. She helped run Ted Stevens’s 527 organization and has been a strong supporter of his in the past. She left her hometown eye deep in debt at the end of her mayoral term, and her approval rating has been dropping steadily within Alaska. Regardless of her daughter (whom I agree shouldn’t be a part of this), I just don’t see the pluses here.
How exactly is any of this maverick or taking on the party?
And I’m sure all of you folks who are defending Sarah Palin also defended Michelle Obama against the ridiculous “fist bump” charges and all of the other vitriol that’s been spewed about her. Yeah, I’m *sure* you did.

Obama has been thoroughly vetted by Republican smear-mongers since he come on the national scene in 2004. The lack of any meaningful avenue of attack has left them morose.
Sarah Palin may have energized the theocratic, anti-environment, anti-science wing of the Republican party, but she will also energize the Environmental protection, pro-choice, pro-science wing of the Democratic party. As a member of that wing, let me give you a little tip to the theocrats and flat-earthers – we outnumber you.

Republicans should be drafted and sent to Iraq or failing that they should, at the very least be forced to pay for the 1 trillion dollar debacle that they voted for. You’d think after the past eight years they would have woken up to the fact that George has driven America off a cliff. They must be missing a key ingrediant in their DNA – like the grinch. Now they blame the RNC for thier failure to properly vet a nut case from Alaska. Morons.

The decent thing to do would be to respect Palin’s daughter’s privacy but it’s just wishful thinking to expect everyone in the country to be decent. Apparently the people from the National Enquirer (and probably all the other tabloids) are in Wasilla poking around. I hope Palin knew what she was getting her daughter into. Part of this is venting by Obama’s supporters after MONTHS of “secret muslim” and “HUSSEIN” mud aimed at Barack and “secret terrorist” charges about Michelle.
Now McCain makes a stupid and irresponsible VP pick, and when very real issues about her come to light
those same mudslingers can’t handle the inevitable reaction.

Palin seems like a great person, but not a great VP or, heaven forbid, President.
I know that some religious people are excited about her because of her religious views, and she seems to represent those views very strongly.
But I think a lot of people are seeing her through rose-colored glasses because of it.
She doesn’t have “commander-in-chief” experience. Military and National Guard are handled primarily at the Federal level. The idea that she has led combat troops in any way, shape, or form is specious.

McCain and Palin seem to be the “Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight.” Did he think at all about his selection? It is not just the ethics violation she is facing, but now we learn that she was once a member of the Independant Party that advocated Alaska ceceding from the union?????? You got to be kidding me? She is an albatross around his neck!

To Larry, who said ”What liberals cannot question is her totally successful rule as Alaska’s governor”
Alaska is one of the smallest states in population (only 700,000 people)withh the highest revenues (from Alaskan natural resources). It’s not hard to balance a budget if you have only 700,000 people and unlimited wealth. A PTA chairperson could be Alaska’s governor. And I wouldn’t say it’s been ”totally successful” Only 20 months in office and already an abuse of power? She claims she fights corruption in her own party, but this ”reformer” publicly supports Alaskan Senator Stevens after police raid his home and he is indicted for wrongdoing? Palin’s brief stint as Alaskan governor is nothing to write home about.

What are the attacks exactly that you speak of? The funny thing is that the Dems aren’t having to do anything. Trainwreck McCain and the Neocons are doing it to themselves this go around, and each new desperate act just gets more and more comical. As a Obama supporter, I just can’t express how thrilled I am at having Palin on the ticket. What a complete mess.

I DO CARE that John McCain is 72 and has had 5 boughts of cancer! Palin would be PRESIDENT if he has to step down. THAT IS SCARY!!!!
I DO CARE McCain obviously made a hasty choice based purely on gender and not on qualifications. It shows his lak of foresight and judgement. (A Republican mantra we’ve witnessed for eight years already)
I do care Palin misused her power to get her sister’s ex-husband fired and is under investigation.
I do care Palin has shown POOR JUDGMENT and had NO INTERNATIONAL or DOMESTIC policy experience.
I do care she represents only the EXTREME right on social issues.
She is in NO WAY QUALIFIED to be one step away from being the most powerful peron in the world!

For two years in the 1990s, the Republican nominee for Vice President was a member of a party (Alaskan Independence Party) which seeks Alaska’s secession from the United States. Dexter Clark, the party’s Vice Chairman has stated that members “should infiltrate” mainstream parties in order to effect the Independence Party’s agenda. If elected, will she use her position in the McCain administration to further the goals of Alaskan independence? She is certainly going to have to bite her tongue to swear that she will uphold the U.S. Constitution.

Both sides of the aisle have their respective good and bad points. Although I am a McCain/Palin supporter, I have nothing but the utmost respect for Obama. I am surprised about all the backlash and which side to blame for inconsequential bantering about things that really do not matter. All of which is media born anyway. We are electing the president of our United States! We are not the editor of a celebrity news magazine. Why don’t we all stick to the REAL issues that we will be facing with either candidate we select. I think we all should write a list of pro’s and con’s of everybody involved, and which issues you think more important to you. Candidate bashing should be left out of this, although both sides are guilty, and it will probably get worse before it gets better by the end of this. I am just a firm believer that everybody has some bad qualities, so I look for the good qualities then compare. Anyway, good luck with your favorite.

Making matters worse, on Monday the Washington Post reported that Palin had previously served on Ted Steven’s political 527 group.
The revelation is a notably thorny one for McCain. The Arizona Republican has butted heads with Stevens over spending matters (Palin, too, has challenged the longtime Senator on the matter).
And Stevens was recently indicted on seven counts of corruption. On Sunday, moreover, McCain’s chief surrogate and confidante, Sen. Lindsey Graham said of Palin’s foreign policy experience, “if she can handle Ted Stevens she can
handle Russia.”
Posted by: PUMA Alice | September 2, 2008, 11:24 am 11:24 am
But John McCain has made earmark bashing a cornerstone of his campaign, calling the spending projects a “gateway to corruption.”
And since taking on the responsibility of running mate, Palin too has presented herself as a thorn in the side of the earmark culture.
When introduced to the public last Friday, McCain said of Palin: she “championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending.
” Palin herself touted her opposition to the infamous Bridge to Nowhere, the nearly 400 million-dollar project that Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens requested and which became a rallying cry for McCain.
As subsequent news reports pointed out, during her gubernatorial run in 2006, Palin backed the project and sympathized with the communities who wanted the Bridge to Nowhere money. Only when it became a national joke did she change her tune.
She is becoming a seasoned FLIPFLOPPER.
That is why Mccain chose her besides her cleavage

Here’s a Question for ABC News or is

Why aren’t you covering this
Important Story?

Bill & Barack’s Excellent Adventure
By Thomas Lifson
William Ayers, unrepentant terrorist and education professor, is once again being tied to Barack Obama in the public mind. Controversy builds over the withholding of the archives of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, an expensive failed school reform effort headed by Obama and effectively run by Ayers, held by the library of the University of Illinois Chicago. Researchers who have gained access to a few documents recording the history of the project have found strong evidence of a very important working relationship between the two men on the project, Obama’s sole claim to executive experience.
Oddly enough, even though the project produced no measurable improvement in student performance according to its own final report, educators and administrators — participants and grantees of the CAC — were reported by outside monitors to be often “ebullient” about the activities. For insiders, it was an excellent adventure. For the pupils stuck in the failing public schools of Chicago, an ongoing, unrelieved disaster.
Obama and his campaign long have gone out of their way to downplay, in fact distort, the long and evidently deep relationship between Ayers and Obama. In the Philadelphia Democratic debate last April, George Stephanopoulos asked Obama about his relationship with Ayers, and the candidate responded:
“This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who’s a professor of English in Chicago, who I know and who I have not received some official endorsement from. He’s not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis.
“And the notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago when I was 8 years old, somehow reflects on me and my values, doesn’t make much sense, George. [....]
“So this kind of game, in which anybody who I know, regardless of how flimsy the relationship is, is somehow — somehow their ideas could be attributed to me — I think the American people are smarter than that. They’re not going to suggest somehow that that is reflective of my views, because it obviously isn’t.”
Almost two months earlier, the “neighbor” talking point campaign manager David Axelrod introduced the notion that Obama and Ayers were mostly just neighbors, telling The Politico’s Ben Smith,
“Bill Ayers lives in his neighborhood. Their kids attend the same school,” he said. “They’re certainly friendly, they know each other, as anyone whose kids go to school together.”
Ayers and his wife are in their sixties, while the Obamas are in their mid-forties. Ayers’ children are all adults, while Obama’s children are currently 10 and 7. Axelrod’s prevarication is telling, bespeaking confidence that nobody in the media will bother to dispute an obvious falsehood.
“Flimsy” turns out to be a completely misleading word when it comes to characterizing the Obama-Ayers relationship.
Notwithstanding the campaign’s efforts to direct attention away from Ayers, a 527 group, American Issues Project, has just released the following ad tying Obama to Ayers, and says it is spending 2.8 million on television airtime in key states.
Despite the legally questionable embargo of the CAC archives, most of its tax returns and official evaluations of the CAC have already been made public. In the hands of intrepid bloggers such as Steve Diamond, Tom Maguire and Dan Riehl, there is already proof of Obama’s extensive involvement with Ayers over the course of his chairmanship, and an emerging picture of Obama’s indecisiveness and absence when serious problems needed leadership.
Barack Obama joined the CAC shortly after William Ayers and Anne C. Hallett received news that their letter of November 8, 1994 submitting a grant proposal to The Annenberg Challenge had been approved. They were to get as much as $49 million from Annenberg, plus tens of millions more dollars from other foundations. Obama’s involvement predates by months the actual incorporation of the CAC and his appointment as founding chairman of the board. He came on board almost as soon as the proposal was approved.
How on earth did a relatively unknown associate at a politically-connected but small Chicago law firm come to be entrusted with the heady task of handing out tens of millions of dollars of other people’s money?
Keep in mind that Obama was at this point in his career very undistinguished considering his pedigree. It would be a kind understatement to say he had underperformed his academic resume. Three years out of Harvard Law and the Law Review Presidency, here is a short list of some of the things Obama had not done:
Clerked for a US Supreme Court Justice (or any Federal Judge);
worked in an important legal position at any level of serious responsibility;
written a law review article or note or published anything of legal substance.
As of 1995 Obama may have had the most professionally empty resume of any President of the Harvard Law Review three years gone from “The Law School.”
And yet Ayers gave him a gig that would enable him to hand out large amounts of money to many people in Chicago, who could be expected to be grateful, once Obama ran for office — as he was to do later that very year, in an event held at the home of Ayers and Dohrn.
Quite clearly, Obama was already well-enough known and trusted by Ayers to be offered the sensitive, prestigious and highly visible post of chairman of this important new undertaking. So we must ask, when did Obama and Ayers actually first get to know one another? And how did they come to trust one another?
One possible connection between Ayers and Obama was Sidley Austin, the prestigious Chicago law firm where Obama had a summer job after his first year at Harvard Law School, and where he met his future wife Michelle, assigned to him as a mentor. Also working at Sidley Austin was Bernadine Dohrn, wife of William Ayers, and a fellow Weather Underground terrorist. Given the shared “progressive” politics of the three, they probably knew one another and associated together at a firm known as a white shoe corporate practice.
Or Obama might have met Ayers even earlier, during his stint as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago, in fact. Ayers was a well-known and very active figure in left wing Chicago politics, and might have encountered the young, articulate, Ivy League educated rookie black radical Obama, working in a Saul Alinksy spinoff.
We soon will know much more about the period of collaboration between Obama and Ayers following the start of the CAC. Even if the archives continue to be withheld from public scrutiny, the cat is out of the bag with the documents available to all. The formidable analytical engine of bloggers trading insights and new data is warming up.
But the period prior to 1995, the time when Bill and Barack, the terrorist and the presidential aspirant, got to know one another and build the relationship of trust, is one excellent adventure likely to remain obscure.

reaganfan,
Another long and boring “cut and paste” post full of lies that no one is going to read?
Let’s talk about the Republican “SHOTGUN” wedding that is going to be coming up between Bristol and Levi. You know the “boy” that doesn’t want to have any kids?
Gee, I sure hope that he doesn’t want to get a job in Alaska state government. Because if he messes up with her daughter Sarah Palin will have him fired!!!!
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ya know, I was just thinking. If John McCain does this sort of homework on his Vice Presidential choice, imagine what he’ll do for us when it comes time to appoint a couple new Supremes!!!! Go back to sleep, John.

I think the focus should not be on Bristol, it should be on the family values of Sarah Palin. What kind of mother would subject her daughter to that sort of national scrutiny at such an emotional time? Sarah Palin also has a four-month old son that really needs his mother’s attention. It seems to me that her career and ego are more important to her than her family.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE REPORTERS?
Why is Palin’s approval of (even brief membership in) a secessionist party not treasonous — 100 times worse than any of the other stuff about her people are complaining about?
It shows her to be totally anti-American. Where is our responsible journalism?

Palin Almost got Recalled As Mayor!!!
Seriously, though, we’re coming off eight years of cronyism and inept leadership in the White House, which led to everything from Heck Of a Job Brownie to the US Attorney Firing Scandal.
Sarah Palin’s emerging record as Mayor of Wasilla and as Governor are almost a complete mirror of that (though closer to the Mayberry scale than leader of the free world).

PHILADELPHIA — John McCain’s campaign has worked aggressively to shoot down questions about whether it adequately investigated the background of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin before he selected her as his running mate.
Today, McCain himself weighed in, albeit briefly.
“The vetting process was completely thorough and I’m grateful for the results,” John McCain said during a campaign stop this morning at Engine Company 56 of the Philadelphia Fire Department.
And what about 4100+ service Men and Women that died for the WMD’s in Iraq?
McCain: Surge, surge surge, vetted vetted vetted!!

Questions, Questions, Questions:
1. Palin was a member of a the Alaskan Independence Party, a party that would like to secede from the United States. This is treason, pure and simple. She should be forced to address that.
2. Palin CLAIMS that she killed the “Bridge to Nowhere”. In fact she ran for the office of Governor of Alaska on a platform to preserve federal funding for that boondoggle. Only after it became clear that the Alaskan congressional delegation (led by Ted Stevens) had lost much of its influence, after Congress said it would cut federal funding in half (Alaska would have to make up the rest), after the project became a joke in the national discourse, ONLY THEN did she flip-flop and kill the project. So, why does she claim credit, she doesn’t deserve?
Incidentally, although she killed the bridge, she took the remaining federal funds, and continued to complete construction of the access road that now leads to the “Bridge to Nowhere”. Noone needs this road, the bridge is gone, but she has allowed its construction to go forward because the project is paid for by federal funds!
3. Palin CLAIMS to fight corruption, even within her own party. Indeed, it seems she has – except when it involves members of her own family. She fired the state commissioner charged with investigating the behavior of her former brother-in-law. She first repeatedly denied personal involvement – until recorded telephone conversations proved otherwise. Two weeks after publicly praising the commissioner for his professional competence, and RECOMMENDING him for a new position, SHE fired him – for not being qualified. It just so happens that it was during these two weeks the commissioner determined not to fire her brother-in-law. Smells very, very fishy. How does she account for this?
3. She is a public advocate of abstinence only sex-education. In light of her own teen-age daughter’s pregancy out-of-wedlock, Gov. Palin should at least be asked if her views have changed at all on this question of PUBLIC POLICY. In a word, have you changed your views on the efficacy of abstinence only sex-education.
4. Her advocates argue she has demonstrable executive experience. How meaningful for the rest of the United States is the executive experience of governing a state that is swimming in oil revenues. After all, our problem here in the rest of the country is EXACTLY the opposite. The State of Alaska celebrates when the price of oil goes, up, while the rest of us wonder how we’re going to pay our heating costs this winter.

McCain and Palin both opposed the fair wage & equal pay Bill for Women!!
Obama voted for it!
Palin and McCain are not for Women’s Right‘s, but want women to vote for her, because she is a Woman..
Both McCain and Palin are pandering and saying support US and vote for me you Women, even though I don’t support you and your freedom to choose or your rights to earn equal pay..

Clearly Gov. Sarah Palin was not vetted properly, if at all.
This tells us everything we need to know about McCain’s judgment – the judgment of the person “AT THE TOP OF THE TICKET”, as Republicans like to remind us.
Apparently McCain’s “EXPERIENCE” didn’t help him much when making this decision. Why should we think it will be any different with any other decision he makes?
Posted by: m@cchiavelli | September 2, 2008, 1:43 pm 1:43 pm
I’ll take Obama’s JUDGMENT over McCain’s EXPERIENCE any day of the week – certainly for the next four years;-)
McCain can’t even vet HIS OWN VP properly – his “Second-in-Command”!!!
And we are being asked to trust this guy as Commander-in-Chief???!!!!

Barack superstar image is gone after Palin painted all headlines, web sites, weblogs, etc. Once she starts talking, politics will rock and Barack is history. I will vote for McCain.

John McCain had no business selecting Sarah Palin as his VP. This was a huge mistake in judgement. I hope this shows his supporters just how incapable he is to be President of the United States. Can you even imagine if something happened to him and she were to become President. WHAT WOULD WE DO??
As for Sarah Palin trying to take credit for 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling – well those cracks belong to Hillary Clinton and Palin had nothing to do with them. Does she even know how Hillary stands on the issues? Hillary’s supporters will NOT vote McCain/Palin just because she is a woman! We voted for Hillary because we believe in HER and WHAT SHE STANDS FOR -not what Sarah Palin stands for. It makes me cringe inside to think of her running the country or even being Vice President.
She has (5) children. One new baby that has very special needs, and one teenage daughter who also right now needs her mother to be there for her and not running around the U.S. pretending to know what she is doing.

Granted, picking a VP via a radio call-in contest may have yielded a more viable candidate, I’m really glad that McCain picked Palin. Who says the man doesn’t have a sense of humor? I just read somewhere that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert both sent him a fruit basket when they got the news.

By choosing Palin, McCain has rendered “experience” a moot issue, and made the question of “judgment” paramount.
On these counts, Obama/Biden win hands down.
Obama = Superior, Informed Judgment – clearly willing to listen, and reach a decision after careful deliberation.
Biden = Enormous Foreign Policy Experience, Working class hero;-)
McCain = Poor & Reckless Judgment. “Leaps before he looks” (and doesn’t always land on his feet)
-unearned wealth, and profoundly out-of-touch with problems facing ordinary people. No “feel” for the issues.
Palin = Minimal & Irrelevant Experience,
- unearned, windfall revenues in the state budget based on the high price of oil. Dserves NO CREDIT for taking in windfall tax revenues based on the high price of oil. Has the executive experience of a Saudi Prince, i.e. “how do I spend all this money?”

I have always been tired of the GOP using Religion and God to sway voters….it should simply be about the critical issues and the best leaders to build concensus and implement necessary change to help ALL Americans, not just the faithful. I thought it was hypocritical that Gov. Palin had her poor 17year old daughter holding the 4-month baby with a blanket covering her belly…if she was sooo proud, why were they hiding this? This is so obviously a tactic and it insults educated women like me who can see right thru this risky move. I wonder how the GOP and the media would react if it was a political family that happeed to be Hispanic or black? Would we see it as simply a “common mistake”?! or, would we call it another example of the lack of American values and a baby out of wedlock?!?
Clearly there is a double standard and hypocrisy…Again, it should be about the best candidates and focus on issues.

Palin v. Clinton in eight years

I am a registered Republican, white, born in Apartheid South Africa, came to the USA for College, met my American husband-to-be 10 days later and have been married for 44 years. Became a US Citizen have four sons and two grandchildren. But this year I am voting for Senator Obama. I am sick to death of Republican double standards, their sactimounous self righteousness .. like they are the only ones who believe in a God. McCain’s choice of Palin is appalling. Of course her daugher is not running for VP, so let’s leave her out of the discussion, but her mother is. Where was she while her children were growing up? Busy being a City Council Member, Mayor, and Governor. When I married, I gave up a career as an opera singer to become a mom … the most important job in the world in my view. Do a good job on your children and you have made a positive contributed to society. Lack of supervision of her children is the way I look at Palin. She is a disaster and so is McCain. God willing, (and I am praying) that Senator Obama becomes our next President.

I am still offended by the fact that my peers are stupid. So many people pick and chose one issue and blast the person. I’ll bet not a one of you could pass a vetting…… I will keep your name and email private, but let me have one day and I could have you doing the hooker circuit and eating out of garbage pales.
Please look beyond the hype you see in the media.

It looked like a comedy channel show when the news asked why they were protesting.

The issue for voters is not the very personal problems being faced by the Palin family. The real problem is that we don’t know Palin at all, and apparently neither does McCain. His decision to go along with this candidate speaks worlds about McCain’s poor judgment. Palin has not been thoroughly vetted and this is a serious error for McCain to have made. Is this the best the Republican Party has to offer?? A lightweight, anti-choice, creationist, anti-animal, anti-environment, pro-oil candidate who won her limited fame on right-wing talk shows? In these uncertain times following 8 years of gross mismanagement by Bush/Cheney, Palin and McCain must be rejected if the United States of America is to regain its economic strength, and its self-respect in the world at large.

What about Sarah Palin’s concern for her own daughter. If this had been told before she was presented as vp choice, her daughter wouldn’t have had to stand in front of ? people and cover her stomach with a baby blanket and carry her DS brother in what looked like and uncomfortable way for him. She wouldn’t have had to look so worried that anyone would see her. She really looked miserable to me. I don’t care about what trouble she’s into – things happen. But what was her mother thinking to allow her to have to suffer before the public when it could have been prevented with announcing it beforehand.

If the Republicans don’t dump Sarah Palin her candidacy as VP will single-handedly push the Republicans into the “loser” category come November.

Does Gov. Pallin believe in the GOP’s Abstinence Program? Was she too busy to be checking in on what the young lady was doing? These things do happen a lot but what is hard to take are these chest-thumping people who go around spouting things that sometimes comes back to bite them. But the GOP is good at spin so now the Gov is to be lauded for standing by her daughter which is what most mothers do anyway. As for being qualified to be VP, yeh maybe if this was the Bahamas where you only deal with unruly tourists.
