The Note: Palin a Hit, and McCain Bats Next
ABC News’ Rick Klein reports in Thursday’s Note:
ST. PAUL, Minn. —
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has gotten the scrambled race he wanted when he turned to Gov. Sarah Palin. So, this is his party now — what does he do with it?
McCain’s convention gets to be about McCain again (or maybe for the first time), as one of the strangest political gatherings in memory comes to a close Thursday in St. Paul with Cindy and John as your highlights.
McCain’s teammate in this endeavor capped a weeklong journey from obscurity — across Quayle Quarry and Eagleton Pass and back (no wonder Trig’s hair was out of place) — with a powerful speech that keeps her in the image game.
To wear out some imagery, the hockey mom knows how to lace up the skates — and can deliver a check into the boards, lipstick intact.
The speech wasn’t soaring or specific, but it didn’t have to be. It wasn’t perfect or polished, but neither is she (and that’s the point).

We stayed earthbound with Sarah Palin. Yet, a beleaguered party has found its inspiration — a person who makes Republicans proud to call themselves Republicans again, even if she’s someone that the “elite media” (more unpopular at the RNC than Harry Reid?) doesn’t quite know what to do with. (That applies maybe even to those who have yet to learn the perils of the hot mic.)
“Ms. Palin’s appearance electrified a convention that has been consumed by questions of whether she was up to the job, as she launched slashing attacks on Mr. Obama’s claims of experience,” Elisabeth Bumiller and Michael Cooper write in The New York Times.
“Palin pitched herself as the product of small-town America and laced her address with sarcastic digs at Sen. Obama. She said it is his experience, not hers, that is lacking, and she embraced the role of leading the attack against the Democratic ticket,” Michael D. Shear writes in The Washington Post. “Palin focused on almost every tactical misstep Obama’s campaign has made, painting a caricature of the Democrat as an out-of-touch elitist and a lightweight celebrity with no sense of what matters to average Americans.”
Even Sen. Joe Biden was impressed — well, sort of.
“She had a great night. I thought she had a very skillfully written, and very skillfully delivered speech,” Biden, D-Del., told ABC’s Robin Roberts on “Good Morning America” Thursday. “I was impressed by the speech, but I was also impressed by what I didn’t hear spoken. … They were good, funny lines — I’m glad they weren’t about me.”

Sen. DeMint: GOP Race Could Go Until Convention
Obama Avoids Questions on Contraception Rule
The speech was very skillfully written by our current President’s speechwriter. ENOUGH!

As a Democrat supporting Democrats downticket and McCain for President, I think the Republicans can breathe a sigh of relief. Sarah Palin did women proud. She will not back down, she will not be destroyed by a pro-Obama media, and she showed how strong women really can be. As a woman, I was proud of her, and I think she will make a fine Vice President. If the DNC doesn’t think this woman is going to bring over some moderate and conservative-leaning Hillary supporters, they are living in Fantasy Land. I don’t like all her stances, but I like Sarah just fine. McCain-Palin have the support of all the women in my extended Irish-American family.

Sarah is an insult to women. She stand for everything most women are against. She is supposed to be a strong woman, but can’t take the media heat and cries sexism. She even has the dems defending her, but choose to tear them apart! She is a divise figure who will never have this woman’s vote. McCain picked her because she’s a woman, not because she is qualified.
Posted by: Hippiemom | September 4, 2008, 9:32 am 9:32 am
Who is Sarah Palin to criticize Obama’s quantity and quality of experience? That is utterly ridiculous. She is the last person who should be making that case. Even Reagan’s speechwriter Peggy Noonan said of Palin: “Most qualified? No….It’s over.”

Talk about sexist:
1. Harry Reid calling Palin “shrill” is an insult reserved for women.
2. To NMP and everyone else last night who commented that Palin had the help pf a speechwriter: so did everyone else, Clinton’s and Biden included.
This speech was a home run. An A+. Pitch perfect.
Palin is the GOP equivalent of the VP nominee that Obama would have made if he hand not lost his nerve and sold out the last vestige of a “change” campaign by naming a 35 year semi-corrupt political hack as his running mate.
Last, trying to wound Palin by any means possible no matter how transparently petty shows just how desperate Team Obama really is. And with good reason. The SS Obama now has a 5’X6’ hole in its hull and is taking on water.

Carrie: You got all that out of that speech last night??
Hippiemom: I totally agree.
I heard on the news this morning she has no knowledge on the War or the Middle East that they are in the process of informing her and teaching her that is is why she said nothing last night in her speech about any of it. Now my question is why would you pick a VP who has no knowledge and admitted she has never followed the war or the middle east??? McCain you lose!

If the Obama campaign and their allies in the MSM want to destroy Sarah Palin, they have their work cut out for them. This woman is as strong in her own way as John McCain. She will attract Democratic women like myself who are no longer comfortable with a party that so easily cast aside a woman who received 50% of the vote in the Primary. I am opposed to many of the positions that Sarah Palin holds. However, those positions pale in comparison to my determination to help shatter the highest glass ceiling. As a 72-year old woman who faced discrimation first-hand in the work place, I intend to support this female candidate for Vice President. When the Democratic Party begins to appreciate the women who make up more than half its membership, I may consider returning to the party of my parents and grandparents.

For better part of the last two weeks, we have all heard polished speeches from performing orators on both sides of the political aisle.
Last night’s speech by Sarah Palin was quite refreshing and provides the indication that a McCain/Palin administration will not be politics as usual.
As Obama and his campaign have chosen to attempt to attack and demean Sarah and her family since the announcement of her choice, she responded in an appropriate and aggressive manner, yet did so with respect…something that Obama and his minions seem to be unable to accomplish.
In my view, I find it significantly important that Sarah’s son is serving our country’s military and may soon be deployed to Iraq while one of John’s sons is facing a possible second tour of duty with another graduating from Anapolis.
Such would indicate that the McCain and Palin families understand both the importance of service and the reality of sacrifice for country and freedom rather than the encouragement and proliferation of the Obama/Biden welfare state.

Sarah Palin is not a good choice if you’d like to pander to Clinton woman like myself. I tend to be suspicious about Palin kinds of crazy.
However, as a candidate with ethical standards, I love her. Obama soldout to the Chicago powerboys club, he got a great bargain on a house and now he runs a campaign with tonns of lobbyist money. A person like Sarah Palin should definitely worry such a man. A guy too cool for me, and after the primaries I just don’t like Obama.
Dems blew it, they broke their own rules, democratic traditions and common decency to have the candidate they wanted – a man undeserving who ran to negative for my taste. He’s trying to make up for it now, but you can’t change the spots on a leopards. Come November I will have to look closely at McCharacter and Palin.

Palin is not the problem, McCain is.
The so called religious right blackmailed McCain into taking on Palin. James Dobson, the political figure head of evangelicals, said he was not voting for McCain. So once McCain secured the nomination the campaign went to Dobson to ask what they had to do to get his support. He told them to add someone like Palin. So the old gray mare did what he was told. Now, you’ll notice, Dobson has flipped to supporting McCain. And that is why Palin was such a surprise, She was anointed by a very small select group of people.
And that is why even Republicans disapprove of her intrusion. Her appointment has been termed cynical and gimmicky by traditional conservatives.
McCain didn’t gamble on his campaign, he gambled on our country. McCain’s slogan is Campaign First. That is the problem.

PALIN: “I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending … and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere.”
THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a “bridge to nowhere.”

4. Varieties of questions on Campaign Trails.

PALIN: “There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it’s easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform _ not even in the state senate.”
THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.

Yesterday, I received the monthly newsletter from my union, the BMWED/TEAMSTERS, supporting Obama.
The newsletter contained a two-page pullout and instructions (not a request) to post an Obama poster in a prominent place until November 4, 2008.
As a point of reference, railroad maintenance workers were absorbed the by Teamsters a few years back, a move that resulted in one of the worst contracts I can remember since the early 1970′s.
Since then I have witnessed the steady decline of what was once a proud and honorable labor organization.
In the Teamsters, big labor with a history of big corruption is throwing in with the Obama/Biden campaign.
Now, the Teamsters throw big money at Obama and a heavy hand at its members.
And, this is supposed to be “change”?

PALIN: “The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars.”
THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama’s plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain’s plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.
Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.
He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

FORMER ARKANSAS GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Palin “got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States.”
THE FACTS: A whopper. Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor’s election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525. Biden dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, but he still got 76,165 votes in 23 states and the District of Columbia where he was on the ballot during the 2008 presidential primaries.

I saw something else last night. I saw an American people who have had a belly full of Orwellian, biased, left wing media distortion of the news and who stood up a shouted “enough”. Obama supporters tend to be ignorant of history and uninformed on world events, which is why, as Rudy noted, Obama did not even know that Russia has a veto on the UN Security Council. Rudy also correctly pointedout that Obama has voted “present” over 130 times because the sniveling little coward is not man enough to vote “yes or no” on controversial legislation until after others have made the decision and it is “safe” to criticize or accept a decison by hindsight. Palin is more of a man that Obama, who, if elected, will not only be America”s first black president..he will be our first yellow president. Perhaps when Russia invades the Ukraine Obama can defend us by building them a school and sending lollipops?

Thanks but no thanks! No more of it.
We saw the maverick with his fresh new hunting dog; quite fierce and dominating; I am sure he would take it for normal walks and all his future hunting expeditions.
Sarah was interesting but exhibited absolute low standards in her attacks on experienced senior politicians. She brought the game to such low repute and set the future standards of the battle much below par by her vituperative attacks on her seasoned opponents. She was ably supported by the flaunting mayor of New York city who I thought was ridiculously arrogant. According to him, she had the most experience compared to both the democratic candidates put together. If it is the 20-month executive experience that he means, I must say she towers over even her mentor and should be projected as the Presidential candidate instead of the VP. While her accomplishments in Alaska are to be credited, the controversies she has tagged along with her are remarkable too, judging by the short span she has been as the governor. That speaks volumes for a potential VP. So now we have two “trigger-happy” candidates working together in tandem to take America and the world to a peaceful co-existence with the rest of the economically growing powers in the world. Is this is a good omen for America or for the anti-American-rest-of-the-world? Only time will tell.
Americans please wake up. Do you want peace or war?

Sarah Palin’s economic record is different from the bhrandon planet of understanding:
While Governor of Alaska, Sarah reduced general fund spending (so far) by $124 million.
Sarah’s projection for the future spending is to reduce general fund spending by $150 million.
In essence, Sarah Palin believer in free market capitalism rather than closed market socialism that is part of the Obama/Biden plans for expansion of government.

There’s something about Sarah…that is so appealing.

Community organizing is how ordinary people respond to out-of-touch politicians and their failed policies.
And it’s no surprise that, after eight years of George Bush, millions of people have found that by coming together in their local communities they can change the course of history. That promise is what our campaign has been about from the beginning.
It’s now clear that John McCain’s campaign has decided that desperate lies and personal attacks — on Barack Obama and on you — are the only way they can earn a third term for the Bush policies that McCain has supported more than 90 percent of the time.

The contrast between both Democrats and Republicans is clear. The questions we ask of our candidates are important like theor judgment – Americans have a right to take a close look at McCain’s choice of VP who is a heartbeat away from the Presidency.
I can see why people are not inspired by McCain’s choice this was McCain running to the right, which left out the rest of America.
What doesn’t inspire us is the Republicans are going after the media on this. We are talking about the mainstream media who are asking the questions that are on our minds about the decision making process of McCain.

Disagreeing with a socialist does not make someone a McCarthyite any more than disagreeing with President Bush makes someone a communist…so Henst, try to stay focused,OK? 2. Obama is an avowed marxist and the picture of Che Guevara that was hanging in his Houston Campaign HQ was put there by his staff…not me or some “right wing idealogue”. What are we supposed to do Henst, look away? (You Germans are good at looking the other way, like when the ovens are burning, aren’t you). It is totally confounding that so many people are sufficiently swayed by feisty rhetoric that they are ready to elect a person to be Vice-President who:
a)knows almost nothing about the world outside the US (having only been outside it once);
b) has at-best narrow knowledge of the US (having never lived, for example, in a major urban centre);
c) believes that women should be forced to have babies (no choice for abortion if you are raped, even if it was your father or brother who raped you);
d) not only believes that women should not have access to safe abortion under any circumstances (despite all the major reports that show abortion rates do not decline in jurisdictions where boartion is illegal, but deaths to women and fetuses increases), but also believes that young people should not be taught the facts about how their own bodies work (ie. sex education);
e) has no applicable academic or professional experience prior to becoming a city mayor;
f) is under investigation for misuse of power and funds;
and so on and so on.
The Presidency and Vice-Presidency should not be a popularity contest. It should be about competence as a human being who lives in a large, heterogenous, and complex world. If McCain and Palin win the office, I think the United States should be domed so the rest of us can carry on in peace.

Exactly, Christopher,
The wholesale expansion of socialist-type government proposed by Obama/Biden cannot be financed solely by additional taxes on the wealthy and big business…Econ 101 would tell you that.
And, any increase in taxes on business will simply result in higher prices for middle and lower class consumers.
If you don’t think so, then consider the “fuel cost adjustment” on many of your monthly bills.
Businesses don’t pay for increases in expenses or their taxes…YOU DO.
Cuts in spending is the key to economic success in this country.
Such in not in the Obama/Biden move towards a socialist state.

Joe Biden, The American People, The National Enquirer & The People of State Of Alaska will EXPOSE Palin for the Fraud she is !!
—————-
ST. PAUL, Minn: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth.
Some Examples:
PALIN: “I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending … and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere.”
————–
THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a “bridge to nowhere.”
—————
PALIN: “There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it’s easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform _ not even in the state senate.”
——————
—————–
—————
FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: “We need change, all right _ change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington _ throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin.”
THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate.
———————
Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.
He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.
——————-
MCCAIN: “She’s been governor of our largest state, in charge of 20 percent of America’s energy supply … She’s responsible for 20 percent of the nation’s energy supply. I’m entertained by the comparison and I hope we can keep making that comparison that running a political campaign is somehow comparable to being the executive of the largest state in America,” he said in an interview with ABC News’ Charles Gibson.
—————–
THE FACTS: McCain’s phrasing exaggerates both claims. Palin is governor of a state that ranks second nationally in crude oil production, but she’s no more “responsible” for that resource than President Bush was when he was governor of Texas, another oil-producing state. In fact, her primary power is the ability to tax oil, which she did in concert with the Alaska Legislature. And where Alaska is the largest state in America, McCain could as easily have called it the 47th largest state _ by population.
—————-
MCCAIN: “She’s the commander of the Alaska National Guard. … She has been in charge, and she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities,” he said on ABC.
————-
THE FACTS: While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service. When guard units are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, for example, they assume those duties under “federal status,” which means they report to the Defense Department, not their governors. Alaska’s national guard units have a total of about 4,200 personnel, among the smallest of state guard organizations.

You go girl! Congratulations Sarah. You really showed ‘em! Palin is tough yet graceful and charming at the same time. She is confident and smart. She doesn’t fit the liberals’ mold of what a politician should be and she’s got more balls than Obama and Biden together. The media and the left are scared of this woman because she just doesn’t care about media opinion or focus groups. She’ll shoot straight with you. She still has the ‘common touch’. She reminds everyone of their mother, sister, teacher, friend, you name it! Some Obama supporters may think she was divisive. No, she was appropriately pushing back the bull. You can’t really argue with the substance of what she said. A community organizer DOESN’T have actual responsibilities. Obama DOES want to raise taxes that will make it harder for businesses to expand and hire more people. Obama really DOES make excuses to not drill for oil. The media HAS disparaged and diminished Palin’s executive experience. The truth hurts.

I don’t remember experiencing difficult financial times during Jimmy Carter’s administration. The Hostage Crisis I do remember, however. Also, I do remember not being able to get a raise one year (1973) while Nixon was President because of the economy; I do remember my mortgage rate going to 14.5% in 1985 (Ronald Reagan’s administration); and I do know we are experiencing some very serious economic problems right now in America (George Bush’s administration). So, what exactly is the problem with getting rid of this corrupt, obnoxious, lousy, horrible, war-mongering Republican adminstration this year and getting something different? And don’t tell me McSame/Palin will be any different than all Republican administrations. We know they only want to help the rich and businessmen got even more wealthy than they already are. Every year in this country the number of millionaires and billionaires goes up. Yet where is the so-called “trickle down effect” to the middle-class working people? I haven’t seen it yet. I do know I was much better off financially during Clinton’s administration!!!

In two different focus groups of Clinton-supporting Nevada women — married and unmarried — conducted immediately after Gov. Sarah Palin’s Wednesday night speech to the Republican National Convention, a few common reactions quickly took shape.
————-
First, women in both groups were impressed with Palin’s speaking ability and poise. But they were hardly convinced that she was qualified to be vice president, or that she truly represented the “change” they were looking for, especially in light of what was deemed an overly harsh “sarcasm” pervading her address.
——————-
The (mostly) anonymous proceedings were webcast live to reporters, who were told in a press release that the Nevada focus groups would include “some former Hillary Clinton supporters who are now undecided or are weak supporters of Barack Obama or John McCain.” No party identification was made available, though the approximately two dozen women were reportedly between 30 and 60 years old.
———————-
In the “married” group, when one attendee kicked off the discussion by saying “she’s a good speaker, and a crowd pleaser,” the rest of the room articulated their agreement. “I didn’t expect to be as impressed as I was,” said another respondent. But then another woman added: “Once she started mudslinging, I thought, it’s the same old crap as other politicians. McCain used her to get the women’s vote. And she’s using McCain.”
——————
“Thank you,” another woman responded. “That really upset me; there was no need for that. It was snippy.”
—————
The unmarried group also voiced similar objections to the harsh, partisan edge of Palin’s remarks. “I’m not impressed with her at all as a person,” one said, citing her “finger pointing” and general sarcasm after the group had generally agreed that she was a talented public speaker.
——————
Still not all focus group members thought Palin came off too harsh. “She didn’t seem very aggressive to me at all,” said one unmarried participant.
———–
But in both groups, narrow majorities said they held a more negative view of Palin after her speech. “She comes off PRETTY CUT-THROAT,” said one.

“..Obama won playing by the rules….”
Weeelllll, first he did, and then he didn’t.
Remember Florida, Michigan??
First, according to Obama, it was according to the rules that their delegates not be allowed to vote.
THEN, when it was time for his nomination at the Convention, BY ALL MEANS, let these delegates have their votes, and not just 50% !!!

The Republicans had the past 8 years to demonstrate leadership. They had control of the White House, and both houses of Congress. And what did we get?
We got screwed. REPUBLICANS HAVE CREATED MORE DEPT THAN AT ANY TIME IN US HISTORY! And they still want more?
McCain/Bush is responsible for a TRILLION dollar loss as a result fo the debacle in Iraq. And these same irresponsible people want another 4 years? Are you kidding me?????
If you are a millionare oil exec, military supplier, hedge fund manager or pharmaceutical CEO, I understand that voting for McCain is in your best interests. But for the rest of us, it’s Obama. Vote Democrat! The a$$ you save may be your own.

Palin delivered a good speech.
Not sure how much of it was true, which I think may be her undoing. For instance, she tried to create a narrative about McCain, being written off a year ago by pundits for his position on Iraq.
As we all remember, he was written off a year ago, albeit prematurely, for financial mismanagement of his campaign.

You ultra liberal Democrats are up early today. Can’t take it, can you? As an independent, I see lots of strength in Palin; she is honest, honorable, intelligent, a quick learner, a great speaker. One plus she has is she is not the liar that Obama and Biden are. Oh, by the way, have you hear of Dr. Kralid Adullar Tariz Al Mansour of Texas, a African Amrican Muslim activist who is a close friend of Prince Alwaleed of Saudi? He contacted people on behalf of Hussein Obama before Obama got into Harvard asking them to writer “good boy” letters to Harvard about Obama. Lots more on that.

Sam,
Obama is not an avowed Socialist. I am. He is not. I should know.
We should be so lucky…. you however are “right-wing” and you should just admit it. Only a right-wing ideologue is willing to “smear” a slightly left-of-center Democrat like Obama with the label Socialist. (the fact that someone in a local office of his campaign is a fan of Che has nothing to do with his campaign – any more than the dusty old nooses found in the homes of many aging McCain supporters does).
Perhaps you should catch up with the times.

Media double-standards abound and continue to astound. It took the MSM more than a year to “discover” – after being forced to – that Obama brought his family to a church for 20 years with pastor who believes that America deserved 911 (no remorse over the 2,700 American lives lost?)and that America should be damned rather than blessed. The MSM is STILL covering up the fact that Obama’s political career was inaugurated at the house of William Ayers – a Weather Underground terrorist who played a role in the bombing of the Pentagon as well as other U.S. government buildings. The MSM puts a magnifying glass on Sarah Palin and throws dirt at her teenage daughter (remember how Chelsea Clinton was off limits)but just can’t seem to bring itself to report the crucial fact that Obama’s worldview has been shaped by radicals, communists and America-haters. The Obamas are NOT the Huxtables – as the MSM would want us to believe. The MSM has been “fronting” for Barack Hussein Obama the entire political season and only now discovered it’s “investigative” skills after John McCain chose Palin to be his running-mate. It digs in its heels and refuses to do an investigative report on William Ayers and the influence of Obama’s communist mentor Frank Davis. It “glosses over” the truth about Barack Obama’s past and yet deems that no rumor, innuendo or personal attack against Sarah Palin and her family is beneath them to report. Liberal hypocrites!!!

Karl Rove: “She’ll be the most tested and the most judged”
—————
The reviews are in and most people think that Sarah Palin nailed her speech Wednesday night before the Republican National Convention.
Political gurl Karl Rove agrees with those accolades, but also thinks that Palin faces a difficult road ahead.
——————-
“She had a test last Friday and she nailed it,” Rove told a crowd gathered for a breakfast panel discussion in St. Paul, Minneapolis. “She had a test last night and she nailed it.
—————-
But being the newest player on the stage, she will also be the most tested and the most judged on the stage. Everyone is going to ask: ‘When is she going to appear on a Sunday talk show program?’ ‘When is she doing to do an interview?’ ‘When is she going to give an unscripted speech?’ ‘When will she do a townhall meeting?’ ‘When will she answer questions on foreign policy?’ ‘How will she perform in a debate?’”
“And we’re going to hear more questions about her performance than about any of the other candidates,” said Rove. “The media is going to wonder, ‘How can we make this an easy storyline and the easy storyline is, ‘Can she do it?’”
Posted by: o. | September 4, 2008, 11:09 am 11:09 am
Yeah… Palin is a reformer. She reforms her words to hide her actions.
She took that money for the “bridge to nowhere.”
I hope the press will fact-check her speech…. but maybe it is sexist to fact-check a Republican’s speech.
Posted by: barnie | September 4, 2008, 11:13 am 11:13 am
For the poster who doesn’t remember any financial difficulties during the Carter administration:
What planet were you on?
The explosion of the interest rate and inflation rate of the Carter years along with gas lines and foreign policy failures (remember Iran?) were what got Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush elected…which, of course, paved the way for the current President.
And, then there were the gas lines…forget about high prices because there was no gasoline to buy.
As for the comments about Obama not being a socialist; simply not true.
While Obama may not admit publicly to being a socialist out of political necessity, statements in his book and his record decry otherwise.
Obama and Biden are two of the most far-left, liberal Senators in Congress (to the left of Ted Kennedy) and would work to expand current government programs which need to be reduced or cut.

I suspect the media will fact-check her well enough. The media reaction this morning seems to indicate it thinks the McCain camp over-played this media-victimization thing, and its digging in.
We see a lot of commentaries about how they will continue to ask about Palin’s background, regardless of how many times they are called sexist for doing it.

Posted by: Wendy | September 4, 2008, 11:29 am 11:29 am
Yep, Jayhawk, even more radical than the stuff you guys have dug up on Obama.
Does she believe Christians should form an army to kill all non-Christians? I’ve heard that alleged about her church, though don’t know if its true.
Does she see Iraq as a Christian crusade?
Does she believe Alaskans should have a vote to decide if they are no longer part of the United States? She certainly has had some involvement, including recent involvement, with a political party that exists solely to promote such a referendum, though the degree of her involvement isn’t known.
Does she really approve of censoring library books? And is she willing to fire librarians who don’t dispose of the books she doesn’t like?
There’s some radical stuff here.
The questions you raise about Obama are guilt by association questions, and Obama has answered those questions to the satisfaction of many (certainly not all). He doesn’t agree with Wright’s radical comments. He doesn’t condone blowing up police memorial statues, as Ayers was involved with some 50 years ago.
Now we need to hear Palin answer the questions that are raised by her associations, as well as her own performance in office.

Sarah Palin is a beautiful empty suit. It has nothing to do with her being a woman. She won’t be able to hide behind that card much longer.
Amricans are tired of lies and more of the same old brain-dead attacks on Obama. The Repugs certainly can use the bridge to nowhere as their symbol if they keep fomenting hate and not putting forth any issues. Hate is not a platform. Neither is Sarah Palin.

Proverb/Joke/Truth
A young women returned from college with a 4.0 grade point average and a job offer in hand. She was also a liberal, staunch Democrat (since that is the only option while in college.) Her father asked her about why she was a Democrat and she explained that wealth re-distribution and taxing the wealthy was the right thing to do for America. Her father then asked about her friend who had a 2.0….his daughter responded that this friend did not work very hard, partied too much, was still looking for employment and was distraught. The father then suggested to his daughter that she give the friend 1 of her GPA points to help her become a more attractive job applicant. The duaghter responded, “no way, those are my grades and I worked very hard for them, I earned them.” The father then said, “welcome to the Republican Party.”

We women often have to work on instinct, which is usually correct. I think it’s very hypocritical of women not to say the obvious: Sarah Palin has the “vibe” of the phony, frustrating, self-important mothers and mean-girls that we absolutely detest. She plays all the mind-games socially, and dupes everyone–particularly the men. We know her. Even apart from her hideous ultra-conservativism, she is the woman who’ll undercut and humiliate her competition (us) any chance she gets. She has that “personality.” Let’s be honest, ladies.

McMary: “The Repugs certainly can use the bridge to nowhere as their symbol…”
Can they? I was pretty surprised she brought that up, actually. It just invites people to say, “wait a minute… you were for that, weren’t you?”
Plus, its only a matter of time before people start calling this Republican ticket the bridge to nowhere.
The whole thing just strains credibility. To hear her speech, you’d think that John McCain was a Washington outsider running against an incumbent from the other party.
Its obvious they are making a shallow attempt to co-opt the “change” message presumably because they didn’t see the “experience” and “POW” messages carrying the election.
So now the Republicans are the party of change, huh? I’m just not sure people are going to buy that one.

Here’s one Paul – A young girl walks into college and is told, go home, you don’t need an education as some day you will be a mother. Mother’s can’t have a family and hold a high level high pressure job at the same time. Don’t worry though, you can come back in your late 40s/early 50s and start a career then.

Stop reading FoxNews responses and use your OWN BRAIN. Where in the world did you come up with that strange tangent about being promoted over a woman? No I don’t hate women, and actually Hillary was my candidate. There are lots of career women who can juggle work and career, but a woman with a NEWBORN WITH DOWN’S SYNDROME??? That my friend is a FULL TIME job. My aunt has a son who has Down’s and she has to care for him CONSTANTLY. Obviously, you wouldn’t know , and being a Republican, you wouldn’t care…unless you had a child with Down’s. It’s funny how Republicans ONLY get humane whenever it affects them personally…

I was willing to give Gov. Palin the benefit of the doubt. I was hoping she would come out to introduce herself and provide substance solutions to America’s problems – economic and national security.
I was hoping she would put forth her vision for America and how to effectively assist in leading us in this 21st century.
But instead she was a let down. Her answer to defending her accomplishments was to try and diminsh Sen. Obama’s strong legislative record and accomplishments. She stayed on the attack, lying and using vicious, divisive, gutter attacks. Basically, she proved and defined herself as someone who’s deeply rooted in the old failed and dirty politics America have seen year after year.
She has no real plan to make the American people lives better on the very serious issues we are facing – education, health care, mortgage crisis, poverty, energy crisis, job losses, etc.
She has proven, as have McCain, that she is committed to continuing the failed policies of Bush. And this is a shame since Bush has the lowest approval rating ever – 26%. …this is a shame since 80 % of the American people believe the country is on the wrong tra and people are deperately seeking a new and better direction. This is a shame since America has lost it’s creditability abroad and neither McCain nor Palin has any solutions to offer the American people and our allies around the world. They don’t have real solutions to fix this nation’s serious problems.
It’s time for the American people to get it right and NOT vote for McCain-Palin, instead vote for change. It’s time for this country to turn the page and seek a new and better future for ourselves and our children. It’s time for REAL change in Washington, it’s time to elect Barack Obama for president !

Guilt by association?
Not hardly, Paul,
Obama answers questions to his own satisfaction and that of his flock.
The rest of us are not so easily led down the path of a polished speaker.
Simply saying that you do not agree with the comments of Jeremiah Wright does not relieve Obama the responsibility of 20 years of membership in Wright’s church, being married by the man, having the man baptize the Obama children, and Obama calling Wright his “old uncle” and “spiritual mentor.”
Not being associated with the likes of terrorist William Ayers (“I do not regret the bombings…we didn’t do enough.”)and his wife when they actually did the bombing does not relieve Obama from responsibility. Ayers and his wife held a fundraiser for Obama’s U.S. Senate bid which is evidence of an ongoing partnership.
And, then, there are the ongoing questions about the Obama’s ties to Syrian nationalists through Antonin Rezko and his wife who arranged a land deal on the Obama estate…that would be the same Rezko currently under federal indictment. And, we cannot leave out the fact that Rezko was active in fundraising for Obama on more than one occassion.
Or, perhaps we could explore the Obama admiration of and fascination with the likes of Louis Farrakhan, not exactly of the same mold as Jeremiah Wright, but not someone who could be classified as less than radical.
The questions about the Obama list of radical and questionable associations, admirations, and friendships is indeed lengthy and has not been answered with any degree of certainty or credulity…unless one is an Obama supporter.

McCain must be feeling rather dour about his chances in Nov. Now he’s being upstaged by Palin who if she is as fiery as she says might just start to boss him around, like daughter to grandpa. It’s comical how the GOP bigwigs are trying to pump up her qualifications. If Alaska was a city, it would be around the 20 in pop. in the US and were she was mayor would be called a village in most of the country. We can wonder what she thinks of Bush’s ABSTINENCE PROGRAM and about who is going to be taking care of her children who we can agree will need a LOT of attention. GOP women are good a spinning this for someone that contradicts everything that they have been supporting for years. This ticket is dangerous for our country what with McCain’s age and condition, Palin in the WH would be worse than Bush. If McCain really loves his country, he should quit and go home, he has about SEVEN from which to choose. Just look at the faces of the GOP faithful and see how they strain to keep a straight face when pumping up Palin.

Re foreign policy – So much emphasis is being put on McCain asking Palin what to do in a foreign policy crisis; why? Becuase that’s what Obama is going to HAVE to do with Biden. McCain doesn’t need to ask Palin what to do, he will already know what to do. The Obama followers want to push this foreign policy thing and I truly hope they do.

It looks like the Obamabots are a bit worried.
Here’s the thing:
A few weeks ago, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius from Kansas was a better VP candidate in Barack Obama’s opinion than Hillary Clinton.
John McCain put out a video congratulating the Democrats.
Barack Obama’s spokesperson came out and slammed Palin for being a rural mayor, instead of a woman who has been at the same pay grade as Sebelius for the last two years.
I am a Clinton supporter who planned on writing in PUMA on my ballot to get my point across to the DNC.
Now I get to actually VOTE for a strong leader, who happens to be a woman — and who also happens to have a fatter resume than Barack Obama and Kathleen Sebelius put together.
Thank you, John McCain.
This was one of the best political speeches I’ve heard, and it hit home to my neighbors in the battleground state of New Hampshire.

Both condemn others if the condemned do not think like the condemners , one sends souls to hell the other murders the living. Both blame the victims for exercising their freedom of choice. FROM THE ALASKA DAILY NEWS…
Gov. Sarah Palin’s remarks to the Republican National Convention about her record in state government stretched the truth.
EARMARKS:
PALIN: “I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending … and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere.”
THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town of 9,000 totaling $27 million.
In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation, although she has cut, by more than half, the amount the state sought from Washington this year.
While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to Gravina Island, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a “bridge to nowhere.”
This is what her own Alaskan papers are saying about her speech last night!!

All the feeding frenzy of the Democrats over Sarah Palin…
And, where is Old Joe Biden?
All the Obamabots can do is rush to try to compare the experience of their Presidential candidate to that of the opponent’s Vice Presidential candidate.
One can only surmise that the Democrats have once again got things backwards…their ticket is upside down with experience at the bottom acting as a babysitter for the Obamas.
Or, maybe, the Democrats don’t want to concentrate on the fact that Old Joe Biden was a socialist in the Senate when John McCain was a POW in Hanoi.

FROM THE ALASKA DAILY NEWS…
Gov. Sarah Palin’s remarks to the Republican National Convention about her record in state government stretched the truth.
GAS PIPELINE:
PALIN: “I fought to bring about the largest private-sector infrastructure project in North American history. And when that deal was struck, we began a nearly forty billion dollar natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence. That pipeline, when the last section is laid and its valves are opened, will lead America one step farther away from dependence on dangerous foreign powers that do not have our interests at heart.
THE FACTS: Palin implies that construction has begun on a major natural gas pipeline from the top of Alaska into Canada. That is not correct.
In fact, no building has begun and actual construction is years away, if it ever happens. This summer the Alaska Legislature, at Palin’s request, passed a bill under which the state will issue a “license” to a Canadian energy company, TransCanada Corp., and pay it up to $500 million as an incentive to someday build this enormous project, which Alaska politicians have long sought with little success.
The license is not a construction contract, and federal energy regulators have not yet approved the project.
Why do Republicans always think they have to LIE to us??? The good people of Alaska obviously don’t buy her LIES either…

Actually from a perspective of logic, its the Republican ticket that’s upside-down.
If a “ready” president dies and leaves behind an “unready” veep, that’s worse than an “unready” president being helped by the “ready” veep, only to have that veep eventually step in.
That’s not to say Palin isn’t ready, or any of that. Just noting the logic of it.

As for the funding of the Alaska natural gas pipeline, Sarah Palin implies nothing other than that the funding has been secured.
Contrary to what the Obama zealots would suggest, a significant amount of work must be done before the first foot of pipe is ever laid, and Sarah Palin has said nothing to the contrary.
Even the liberal writers of the New York Times had a degree of accuracy in describing Sarah’s work to get the pipeline project up and running:
“Palin’s intense pursuit of a pipeline to deliver natural gas from the North Slope of Alaska to market in the Lower 48 led to what her administration has claimed as a major triumph: the Legislature this summer approved her plan to give a $500 million subsidy to TransCanada, a Canadian company, to help build the project.”
Sarah Palin’s reason for pursuing the pipeline project is for Alaska to help “end our dependence on foreign oil.”
Sarah has stated that she hopes the pipeline effort will show that Alaska can contribute to a new energy economy.
And, the feeding frenzy of worried Obamabots continues regardless of content or context.
As for me…

Sarah Palin and her family is the type of people I love in my neighborhood. She is straight forward, honest and right on target. She has the experience for VP.
I have heard and read a hundred speeches and writings about Obama. He certainly comes across as manufactured, artificial and superficial and oh, so arrogant. He does not tell the truth so I certainly would not want my country in his hand. His solutions to our problems are non-workable. He is just dreaming.

Dear Sarah Palin,
Thanks for showing us your beauty queen speaker training last night! Bet you are glad now you took those classes, Huh!
Remember when you used to complain about all those classes? Now do you see what your mom kept telling you?
You showed tonight you can read a speech written for you by the McCain campaign, that’s about all…
Any your delivery reminded me of my 9th grade science teacher. The class (your speech) always started out great, but about half way though I wanted to fall asleep!
But gosh darn it! All those “Lilly White” Republicans clapping and cheering so loudly it kept waking me up!

Okay, Paul,
I missed the quotation marks in your copy and paste.
However, that does not change the upside down analogy you and the Democrats have embraced.
With such logic, the most qualified and experienced leaders in any organization would never be in the top position unless there was a tragedy or emergency.
In business, the best leaders would not be leading.
In sports, the best quarterback would be on the bench.
The analogies are legion, but the idea is to put the best qualified and most experienced in the top spot.
Get it?
Reverse hierarchy may be the manner of ruling for national socialism, but it doesn’t work in a country built on competition and free enterprise.
But, you already knew that.

And while I haven’t said anything about Palin’s parental instincts – the whole mommy wars thing, which I do think is silly (a female can get a nanny as well as a male) – was anyone else a little put off by the infant being there at the convention hall all evening?
Everytime they showed him, I thought about having an infant around all that noise that late at night for that length of time.
I can understand why Palin chose to do that. If he hadn’t been there, some would make suggestions about hiding the DS baby, etc. She wanted to show she was proud of him. But I kept figuring one of the older kids would slip away with the baby to get him back to a hotel room at some point.

Jayhawk: “However, that does not change the upside down analogy you and the Democrats have embraced.”
Jayhawk, you are making assumptions and then arguing those assumptions, as opposed to what the other side is actually saying.
We haven’t embraced any analogy. We had a chance to nominate Biden, remember? We chose not to.
I was merely questioning your assertion that its better to have experience at the top rather than the bottom of the ticket. From a purely logical perspective, there’s a case to be made against that.
Posted by: Paul | September 4, 2008, 2:56 pm 2:56 pm
Well, Davis,
Where that post came from will remain a mystery as it was not from this Jayhawk.
There seems to be a lot of using someone else’s ID to try to discredit the poster.
Typical Obama/Biden/Axelrod tactics.
There must be a whole lot of desperation in the Obama camp today.
Sarah Palin must have stirred an immense amount of fear in all of the Obama crowd.
For the record, one of my son-in-laws is black, and two of my grandchildren are bi-racial.

And to further demonstrate how fast and loose you are playing with both semantics and logic, you tried to make a point about best quarterbacks sitting on the bench, etc.
In other words, you are equating “experienced” with “best.”
Obviously that’s not an equation that either party always makes. Was George Bush the most experienced candidate for the Republican nomination in 2000?
If the Democrats valued experience and only experience in 2008, the nominee would have been Biden, Dodd or Richardson.
If the Republicans valued executive experience above all else in 2008, the nominee would have been Romney or Guiliani.
Do me a favor – make a list of your five all-time great presidents, and five all-time worst presidents. Then compare the list in terms of their prior experience before assuming the presidency. I’m willing to bet your great presidents have less experience than your worst. You don’t have to share the results; but as a favor to me do this just for yourself.

So, let’s get this straight…
Even though the experience of Joe Biden is not at the top of the ticet, that choice does not embrace reverse hierarchy?
Perhaps for the sake of argument, Paul, and argument is about all the Democrat/Socialists have left.
Observations are not assumptions, but rather observations.
Outside of politics and the Democrat arena, a significant majority have choosen to put the most experienced at the top.
To do anything else defies logic.
As does the nomination of Obama…

Jayhawk: “Even though the experience of Joe Biden is not at the top of the ticet, that choice does not embrace reverse hierarchy?”
Are you saying we planned all along to nominate Obama so we could have Biden as the veep? Um, well, we didn’t.
No, the Obama/Biden ticket does not embrace what you are calling reverse hierarchy. Obama is the presidential nominee because Democrats wanted him to be the president. Not all Democrats, of course, and as we all know it was a historically close race between him and Clinton.
But Obama won the nomination and then chose his running mate, as did McCain.
And, yes, you are making assumptions about Obama and Democrats, and then arguing against those assumptions, whether you recognize it or not.

Actually, Paul, your argument goes in circles and defies logic.
Referring to semantics does not lend any credence to the Obama mantra.
Actually, the circular path works extremely well to make the argument for experience in leadership more than any post I have viewed to this point.
To the point, how many resumes have you filled out that tout your lack of experience?
And, while lack of experience does not necessarily ensure the candidate will fail, experience most certainly does favor the success of any candidate.
And, in vast majority of cases, the most experience is called on for the lead role, not to follow and be there just in case.
You sound just like a person I once met from Nebraska who used a similar tone of argument over logic.
He was in error, too.

Jayhawk: “Actually, Paul, your argument goes in circles and defies logic.”
Well, I think you’re wrong.
Why wasn’t McCain chosen over Bush as the Republican nominee in 2000? McCain had more years in office.
But maybe you want to fall back on the executive experience angle. Okay, then why wasn’t Romney chosen over McCain in 2008?
The simple answer is because most voters (even party primary voters) aren’t as simplistic as your “experienced” equals “best” notion suggests they ought to be.
Some voters actually consider what a candidate says he or she will do in office, what positions he or she takes, etc., rather than just look at which has a more impressive resume.

CNN’s Jack Cafferty, a bona-fide Obama sycophant and news hack, recently suggested that McCain “should consider replacing Palin.” This after making his case that she’s a “weak” candidate.
Let’s think about this for a moment.
Why would an Obama supporter insist that an “unqualified” VP candidate on the opposing ticket withdraw? Wouldn’t a weak candidate IMPROVE Obama’s election chances?
It’s rather obvious that Cafferty is absolutely terrified of the game-changing nature Palin’s introduction has had on the race and the damage she’ll do to Obama. Liberals are literally wetting their pants on live TV. The shrillness is through the roof. Hysterical. This irrational behavior, more than anything else, tells me that McCain’s pick was an absolutely BRILLIANT strategy. And I truly believe he knew this would occur. I have my differences with McCain, but the man is a genius.

Senator Obama was just on TV and slammed the Palin speech as more Republican rhetric. He stated that she didn’t say anything about health care or college costs and other socialist ideas. I am a responsible person and have made my own life. I don’t want Big Brother telling what they should do for me other than as outlined in the Constitution. Don’t think Obama understands that. There in nothing that say that minorities must be given college education and the better jobs. All people should have the same rights and privileges. This has caused a great division in America. He certainly not a uniter. That is propaganda. Obama says ‘I will, I will , I will.’ Palin say, ‘I have already done that and this and that.’ Palin wins.

I think the over-the-top, shrill posts above speak for themselves. I’m positively giddy watching Obamabots melt down this week. The panic is palpable.

“Nielsen Co. reported this afternoon that an estimated 37 million people watched her address on the three broadcast networks, plus CNN, FOX News Channel, and MSNBC. That’s just 1.1 million shy of the record audience for Barack Obama’s acceptance speech last week, which was carried on four other cable networks as well, Nielsen said.
Nielsen also noted that 19.5 million women watched Wednesday night, 4.9 million more than a week ago for the Democratic convention.” -boston.com
Whats amazing these number were achieved with less cable networks than obama had.
So Sarah’s speech easily matches the numbers Obama got at his Roman Temple speech. Wow!

Sara Palin’s Speech: The Good & Bad From a Business Person Perspective.
Good: Coachable, very well read, brilliantly scripted, I’d say she did a fantastic job of Rallying the Republican Crowd up. Personal touch, I loved the feisty hockey Moms analogy, a lot of women can relate to that, I can relate to her. Adorable kids. No doubt she’s a great mom. Agrees with a lot of with the Obama/Biden team said about Washington.
Bad: Confrontational, offers sarcasm instead of solutions. Makes it clear,
She’s not an approachable person, might not be a team player in any corporation.
Works better as an individual if placed in the job pool. Perfect in running a State like Alaska, not a large nation. Shows good Administrative skills. I say let her get more seasoned, build up her skills in the Senate a few short years from now – I’d vote her for a higher position. Not Executive material.
If this where a job bid and two teams came to me to offer their services and goods.
Here’s the choice:
Team One: Is Innovative, amiable, fresh, get’s me fired up, inspired and motivated. Is optimistic.
Shows me possibilities and positive change. Lays out clearly their game plan, instead of harping about their competitors. Shows youthfulness and Maturity. Shows off Diversity, mass appeal. Diplomatic and Negotiable. Approachable. Plays up Leadership material.
Team Two: Confrontational, Rebel, not open to negotiations “my way or the highway” approach. offers me sarcasm instead of solutions. Vague. Can relate to the seniors and retirement pool but is out of touch. Uses fear-of-loss sales approach. Is defensive or hostile. Shows me they’re in agreement with their competitors about the current situation. Shows off Traditional appeal, not much diversity. Exclusive mass. Plays up sympathies like (e.g. sexism or P.O.W. our troops) Victim material.
I’d hire the Obama and Biden Team.

What do McCain’s years as a P.O.W. or Palin’s membership in the P.T.A. have to do with their qualifications to be President or Vice-President?
What McCain endured in the Hanoi Hilton tells us he is tough, honorable, and a good soldier. But he is not asking us to send him to fight as a soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan, he is asking us to make him Commander-in-Chief. McCain has little if any Command experience, and he dropped out of the Navy because, as he himself admits, the Navy was not going to promote him very far, his career as a hot-dog, his temperament DID not fit him for Command. If the Navy didn’t think he was worth promoting, why should the American people promote him?
As to Palin’s experience in the P.T.A.? What can I say…? What did she try to actually accomplish as a member of her P.T.A.? Was she trying to get “creationism taught in our public schools? Was she trying to prevent teen-agers from being taught safe-sex practices, the risks of STDs, the risk of pregnancy – if a teen-ager should choose to have sex and end up with an unplanned pregnancy?

A lot of Obamabots are young and unfortunately ignorant of American history (another testament to the ineffectiveness of government-run schools). So their only “arguments” are leftist talking points spoon-fed to them by Obama’s campaign and leftist blogs. They are simply incapable of thinking for themselves and objectively viewing the world as it exists.
Let’s step back in time, shall we?
Before Bill Clinton became President, he was governor of Arkansas. He was popular and had a 65% approval rating when he left that office. Despite this, a legendarily corrupt political system remained. He had no foreign policy experience. He was deemed qualified to be President by many Democrats.
Sarah Palin is governor of the strategic energy state of Alaska. She enjoys an 80% approval rating, the highest rating of any state governor in the country. She fought corruption in her own party, cut taxes, aggressively slashed wasteful spending even while the state enjoyed a large SURPLUS, and even returned money to her constituents. She has no foreign policy experience. She is deemed unqualified to be Vice President by many Democrats.
This objective comparison above demonstrates that the smear attacks against Palin have nothing to do with “qualifications.” Democrats have clearly supported less successful politicians in their own party in the past, and the top of the ticket.
What we’re witnessing this week is sheer leftist terror…the fear that a charismatic, conservative reformer will reverse reckless liberal policies hoisted on us, without our consent, by an inept and corrupt Congress. And this is why McCain and Palin must win.

==========================================
You start of your argument by making a number of vague charges against a vague, and undefined opponent.
Obamabot?
Right back atya you McCatron;-)
You McCatrons have spun, and spin yourselves silly spouting the few ‘talking points’ you’ve had to defend Gov. Palin. Unfortunately, the McCatron army had not been briefed in advance of your leader’s decision, and were as taken aback by the choice as everyone else in the nation. So, you’ve been busy spinning the one little wheel you thought you had, your one talking point – heard over and over again from McCain’s army of robots
1. “Executive Experience”.
2. She has more executive experience than….(fill in the blank with Obama or Biden, or with “Obama & Biden combined)
because…(fill in the blank with P.T.A., Mayor of Wasilla, Gov. of Alaska).
This claim is wildly inflated, and bears no relation to the facts, besides being irrelevant to the question of who would make a good President. Abraham Lincoln had no executive experience when he was elected to the Presidency and about as much political experience as Barack Obama, and he emerged as one of the nation’s greatest Presidents.
I’m going to post my thoughts in chunks so you McCatrons can have an easier time digesting the argument.
Chunk I McCain & Palin’s “Combined Experience” (follows below)

Chunk I McCain & Palin’s “Combined Experience”
Well, the importance of “Executive Experience” sounds great, until you consider that your great leader McCain actually has none, has himself admitted that he knows NOTHING about the economy, bankrupted his own campaign last year early in the Republican primary, and manages his own personal finances so poorly that he doesn’t even know how many houses he owns.
As to Gov. Palin’s “Executive Experience”?
What does her 1 1/2 years as Governor of Alaska tell us about her abilities as an executive?
During Gov. Palin’s 1 1/2 years as “Executive” of Alaska, oil prices trebled. That’s pretty much all we need to know, to know that any Excutive Experience she might claim is meaningless to the rest of the country.

While the rest of us cry out in pain.

While Alaskans weep into their beer.”

The Alaskan Economy, Oil Producing States, and the Price of Oil
(follows below)

The Alaskan Economy, Oil Producing States, and the Price of Oil
Alaska is the nation’s second largest oil producing state in the United States (after Texas).
The success or failure of the Alaskan economy is directly tied to the price of oil, just like Venezuela, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Norway, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, etc.
State revenues in such economies rise or fall with the price of oil.
You tell me how you would look if your won the lottery, and your annual income suddenly was multiplied by three!
If in one year you make $30,000.00, the year you won the lottery you would have made $90,000.00! but would you call “winning the lottery” executive experience?”
=======================================
Gov. Palin won the Lottery, Does that Mean She is a Good Executive?
(follows below)

Gov. Palin won the Lottery, Does that Mean She is a Good Executive?
This next point may be a little too subtle for the McCatrons reading this, but for Obamabots who are still with me: you’ll notice that ALL oil producting countries have been doing well since the price of oil trebled, but whether they do well or not has little or nothing to do with the person or kind of government running them. Venezuela has something like a Socialist Dictatorship, Norway has a Social Democratic Government, Russia is centralized and Authoritarian, Saudi Arabia is a monarchy. It really makes no difference who is the “EXECUTIVE” of these countries, all the leaders are popular – they are popular because the price of oil keeps them popular.
=======================================
Gov. Palin’s 80% Popularity Rating, Is she really that popular?
(Follows Below)
Posted by: m@chiavelli | September 4, 2008, 6:51 pm 6:51 pm
Gov. Palin’s 80% Popularity Rating, Is she really that popular?
Of COURSE Gov. Palin is popular, and for the same reason that Hugo Chavez in Venezuela, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, or Vladimir Putin in Russia are popular – their econmies are swmimming in oil revenues!
Are these Presidents, Dictators, and Governors “Good Executives?”
Impossible to say until the price of oil collapses.
So, based on her resume as 1 1/2 years, years when Alaska was swimming in oil revenue, the most we can say is that Gov. Palin has the executive experience of an Oil Sheikh.;-)
Not really experience relevant to governing the rest of the United States, or charting this country’s future energy policies.
Finally, while is WAS true until recently that Gov. Palin’s popularity was as high as 80%, her popularity recently has declined. Before McCain plucked her out of the obscurity of Alaska last Rriday, her popularity had declined to as low as 64%! Still high, but trending downwards as more information came out about Trropergate…but that’s another story for another time dear McCatrons.
By the way, I dare you to find a single “talking point” in anything I’ve written here. C’mon, I dare ya “Jim” from the great state of O-HIGH-YO. :-)

Indeed, McCain & Palin;-)
A man without any leadership quality, poor judgement, and over the hill.
A woman with little experience, who is still not vetted, and has yet to give a press conference. She can read a good speech…she is a fire-brand…but the V.P. job is not a walk-on role in a reality T.V. show. At some point she is going to have to present an unedited version of her real self to the public. Then we’ll learn what she’s really worth.
A don’t come back with the charge that all Barack can do is “read the teleprompter”. He has given multiple interviews, appeared in more than 20 debates, survived intense and unrelenting media scrutiny. And what’s more, where McCain ran his campaign into BANKRUPTCY early in the Republican primary, Obama ran a disciplined campaign, and is still hundreds of millions of dollars ahead.
1. McCain doesn’t even know the state of his own personal finances: he can’t even remember how many houses he owns
2. He ran his own campaign into bankruptcy, and he’ll do the same to the country.
Whose your daddy, now “LarryMan”.

==========================================
If anyone wants a different picture of ACORN, here’s a link to a rebuttal to the first piece, which is written by two authors actually familiar with it, and who are actually reporting, not writing fiction.
http://www.nhi.org/online/issues/129/ACORN.html
To save you time, here’s the main idea:
in the rebuttal, the authors admit that “[the article]..accurately outlines ACORN’s agenda”
They then go on to describe that agenda:
1. living wages for the working poor
2, improvement of housing conditions through rent subsidies and access to credit
3. help for people on welfare to get off welfare into reasonable jobs, including child care subsidies
4. health care for their kids and job training
5. improvement in the physical and fiscal condition of public schools in the cities
That’s, in a “nutshell” what ACORN does. If you did not already know that Obama is at least still sympathetic to these ideas, though he may no longer think they are all equally effective or achievable, then you haven’t been paying attention.

You’re putting up a biased, pro-ACORN article as a valid rebuttal to a detailed, objective analysis written by a widely respected, Harvard-educated journalist? You must be joking.
ACORN is LEGENDARY for massive voter fraud, with recent examples in Louisiana and Wisconsin.
Google “Democrats’ Vote Drive in Louisiana Stirs Concern”
and “10 more voter registration workers face investigation”
Would you like to explain that fraud away to the rest of us as some sort of benevolent action on behalf of disadvantaged minorities?

========================================
I wish I WERE on Obama’s payroll, at least he could pay my wages, unlike McCain who couldn’t meet his payroll last year when his campaign had to declare bankrupcy;-)
Sorry if you didn’t like the link I provided that gives an accurate & fair description of ACORN, unlike the hatchet job in your article.
Guess where I found my link…it was actually cited in the article you provided.:-)
What did you think of JIM KUHNHENN’s article, the one he wrote for the Associated Press Writer Wed Sep 3, 11:48 PM ET in which he combed through Gov. Palin’s speech & and pointed out her many distortions, mistatements, and well…let’s call them lies.
The article can be found here…

m@cchiavelli,
OK, so the current voter fraud being perpetrated by ACORN is merely a figment of my imagination. Thanks for clearing that up.
We’ll let the American public decide how noble ACORN is as we get closer to the election. I predict it won’t be pretty, especially now that Obama’s lead is slipping.

Wha? An AP journalist trying to diminish Palin? I’m shocked! Shocked I tell you!

I WAS VERY MUCH SADDEN BY MCCAIN’S SPEECH TONIGHT. I FEEL THAT HE IS TRYING TO SKATE HIS WAY INTO THE WHITE HOUSE ON THE SYMPATHY FROM HIS POW EXPERIENCE. THERE ARE MANY AMERICAN SOLDIERS WHO WERE POWS, BUT THAT SURELY DOESN’T QUALIFY A PERSON TO BE PRESIDENT. WHAT OTHER PRESIDENT WAS A POW? NONE. ANOTHER ISSUE IS THAT I TRULY DON’T BELIEVE THAT THE DOWN SYNDROME BABY IS PALIN’S 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTERS, AFTER THE JOHN EDWARDS FARSE, I WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED IF IT’S MCCAIN’S BABY.
