Jake,
Very good segment. Kudos from an independent who just wants to see the media objectively analyze the mud being slung.

Can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em in th egutter is McCaint position.
John McCaint missed his chances to push back at bush dirty politics in 2000.
Now OPPORTUNISTIC McCaint is adopting the same dirty bush politicking that ran the nation into the ground.
It WILL NOT work this time, John! lol You’ve missed your chances in 2000
The reason John McCaint did not do battle with bush in 2000?
Bush has McCaint UNFLATTERING Viet Nam POW SECRETS! lol
the media is not objective, they are trying to help Obama. Why the lipstick is not the same when Obama said vs. McCain said it:
1. When Mccain said it, there was no Sarah Palin’s lipstick-pit bull line.
2. when McCain said it, the audience got what he said. no one was applauding and no one thought he referred to Hillary.
3. When Obama said it, the audience clearly connected the pig to Palin. it is so obvious.
4. Obama later talked about Old stinky fish – which reinforced his previous comments; Pig is Palin, McCain is old fish.
5. Last night Obama clarified: Palin is the lipstick, McCain’s policy is the pig.
It is not how the news room people think, it is how we, the ordinary people think that matters. Five of my female friends said Obama’s language is insulting, his denial made it worse. He is either stupid or either extremely insensitive to people’s feelings.
He is going to have a spectacular fall.

Carl Rove is offensive. His presence on Fox news is a symbol of contempt for law. We are a country of laws, for which Rove has thumbed his nose. It is als symbolic of the attitude of McCains campaign. We can and will do anything we want. Lie, smear, distort…anything
Obama lost it on Letterman, cried because he wasn’t on the cover of Newsweek, and said Palin was the lipstick. Of course, he will deny he meant Palin was the lipstick ,just because he said Palin was the lipstick. Obama is where he is because the media jumped on every comment Hillary and Bill made. They read racism into everything. Now, they are protection OBama to a degree unseen in American History. The American People are mad as hell at the media, and will not take it anymore. The internet has made them irrelevant. Fight back against the Obama Media Machine.
Phony outrage? In American politics? Say it ain’t so. Obama clearly wasn’t referring to Palin. If he had been he would have said “you can put lipstick on a moose shooter…”.
Posted by: dv | September 11, 2008, 3:27 pm 3:27 pm
Obama gave a “press conference” the other day, but said he would only take 3 questions. Of course, Jake Tapper was one, and now he is paying back Obama for the incredible gift.
“The crowd, when questioned, all thought Obama meant Palin. So does that mean Obama has the most stupid supporters in the country?”
Uh, Karen, who “questioned” the crowd? You wouldn’t be just making that up, would you?

I watched it last night on the tube, and while I don’t claim to be unbiased, I thought it was a very fair take on the problem.
Thanks Jake, for taking your reporter’s role seriously – Americans need to know the truth if they’re going to make an informed choice.
Let’s hope Charlie Gibson shows the same level of seriousness in his interview with Palin.
Posted by: Ed from MA | September 11, 2008, 3:31 pm 3:31 pm
Bad piece. Would have been better to look at claims of outrage on both sides — where’s the discussion of Obama saying McCain campaign was using racist positioning by putting O’s picture on US currency, or how no one should use his middle name because it means they’re pushing anti-Muslim feelings, or how he spoke about being an urban community organizer was “code word”. Phony outrage cuts both ways. Media should play fair, or not play at all.
This are the chaps u want for your next President and Vice president, we have distingrated to this level Americans

BTW, Obama ROCKED on Letterman last night!! He was funny and as always, warm-spirited and polite towards Palin.
He makes McCain’s campaign look SHAMEFUL BY COMPARISON.
Posted by: Ed from MA | September 11, 2008, 3:34 pm 3:34 pm
Jake,
You are absolutely right! McCain has totally lost his honor. I can’t beleive he is conducting such a slimy campaign. Almost everything Palin says on the stump has been a lie from the plane sold on ebay to the firing of the governor’s chef. Stack the bridge to nowhere and rovian tactics on top and it all just makes my head spin.
I used to think McCain really was a maverick, now I know he is a liar and a cheat! Disgusting!
If you GOP supporters need to see just how much your party are a bunch of liars just go check http://www.factcheck.org. I can’t believe with the state of the country such as it is you idiots are arguing whether he was talking about Palin or not in reference to lipstick when your own nominee used that very same expression 4 or 6 times in the last 18 months.
GET A GRIP!!!!
McSame has nothing to offer and nothing to say about issues facing America. 26 years in the Senate in Washington and no accomplishments but receiving money from lobbyists. Now he is fabricating this distraction for us. We are tired of the old lows in politics. After exploiting for political gains the misfortunes of Palin’s son with Dawn syndrome, her pregnant teenage daughter and the departure of her son to Irak, McSame and Palin are trying the lipstik on the pig politics. God save America from McSame and Palin.

I saw this last nite on World News and thought it was VERY one-sided and smacked of bias journalism. Jake have you considered it was a vieled slam towards Palin? No I don’t think so and for that you lose all credibilty in reporting this story.
so now you people are saying not only should obama be blamed for anyone he knows and what they have done, he now should be blamed for people and what they perceive…
lol what?
you people are as nuts as the mccain camp… no wonder you support this guy.
mccain camp is losing its mind and so are his supporters….
its now impossible to use the word lipstick because now that word belongs to palin…
and nevermind that people didnt get upset that she was calling herself a vicious dog and thats fine, but how many politicians have used this phrase?
soooo many, but obama meant palin, even though he never mentioned palin at all… he says mccain
i mean seriously, this is your type of thinking
if mccain was tortured he must like torture
since mccain was tortured by the vietnamese he supports their actions because he knows them…
it is illogical and thats what you all and the mccain camp are… illogical freak jobs who no longer are talking about a single issue other then this palin women.
No outrage then….BECAUSE HILLARY HAD NOT MADE A JOKE IN FRONT OF 40 MILLION AMERICANS ABOUT LIPSTICK JUST DAYS AGO. The pit bull/lipstick joke was printed in every paper across this country (wonder if the guy behind the joke is getting any $$$ for everytime we’ve heard it now). You can buy some great T-shirts on line with Palin’s joke, or pigs and lipstick…all kinds of franchising.
If Hillary had said any kind of joke involving lipstick prior to McCain talking about Universal Healthcare and the pig comment….we would have had the same hailstorm.
EVERYONE IN THOSE BLEACHERS KNEW HE MEANT SARAH PALIN….AND SO DID I WATCHING IT THE FIRST TIME.
This ABC piece isn’t actually stating it correctly in reference to McCain’s saying it 3 times with no problem…HILLARY DOESN’T HAVE A FAMOUS LIPSTICK JOKE RUNNING AROUND OUT THERE.
How about answering the questions that are actually asked, John?
Posted by: Harold Wilson | September 11, 2008, 3:44 pm 3:44 pm
no answers no changes
same team same tactics
look what they did after they used the same tactics to get people fooled into not voting on the issues last time…
same garbage got us the last 8 years…
what do you think would happen with 16…?
and the last 3 or 4 with Sarah “I am not sure about scientific facts” Palin
we already had a stupid President…how’d the last 8 work for ya? what do you think would happen with 12 or 16?
As a devoted mom, wife and a chistian, I am very disgusted with the McCain campaing. I am alos a republincan who will not support the lies that are coming out Sarah Palin mouth. I am sorry but she needs to stop saying somehting that is not true. The bridge to nowhere is a made-up lie. She supported this and now she said she said that she was always agaist it. We conservatives are jumping up and down for this women who has too many issues. We republincans are acting like this is child play by jumping up and down for this womme who is a lier. I am also sorry christians dont lie. Lying is a sin, A SIN!!!! The other issue is that how can you be moral if you are raped force someone to keep the baby after you have been raped. Can you imagine the mental issues that will develope beacuase if this not only for the mother but for the child as that child will learn the truth. C’mon folks this women is not true christain, she is a radical christain an extremist. I dont belive in abortion but I also dont belive in extremism and that is what Palin is.Republincan men are voting for this lady beacuse she is a somewhat pretty and men are drulling over her, frankll I belive this is an insult for women. I am ashame!!! Flat out ashame that way we conservatives are acting!!! Barack Obama and his wife act more like conservatives that Palin, Cindy and john. We republincan, christian women need to wake up!!! We need to tell Sarah that she should not continue lying even after she has been proven wrong. We republincan Christian women need to tell this lady to act with some class. To conclude this I will not support this ticket. I dont buy into this Palin women. I dont like her for her continue lies ect. I am coming to a conclusion that Joe Biden is the best qualify person up-there. Joe Biden is acting in a respectfull and honorable way . Joe son was shipoped over seas and he did not made this a big issues. Palin and Cindy are not conservatives thaty re direspectfull and showy. If you all think that Cindy and John are going to care for the average American you better think again. After all how many houses you have???? Maybe none!! Maybe it was taken away due to forclosure. How many people you now have lost their jobs!!! May be you lost your job!!! How many folks you now that dont have health insurance??? Maybe you need medical help, but can afford it. Are you making over $250,000 a year are you?? really!! if you make over that then McCain will be the one for you. I make $450,00 but I care about those folks that are barely making 25,000. Folks these are the real issues you need to look at if your Middle class or poor. McCain is not going to be yur answer. I urge all not to get fooled again. I hate to say it as a republican I support bush twice and yes I yes I was wrong for more than just one reason. I have not heard anything new that Mccain is going to do to fix this economy, not one issues. Not one issue on health care, not one issues on education and you think beause I a women, a republincan a christian that I will vote for McCain. Wake up folks this not a fan fair!!!!
debra he never meant palin how do you figure so him saying
mccain claiming himself as a change agent is like putting lipstick on a pig, its still a pig
that to you means palin?
even though palin was never mentioned?
mccain today said the people of flight 93 probably saved his life by stopping the terrorists,
i believe that to mean he wanted to blow up a building and was saddened when it didnt happen
lol you are illogical
Prometheus – True, but you’re missing a point. No one ever got a standing ovation for saying it before – why did Obama? Because his audience saw it as referring to Palin. And he should know that would happen — and I believe he did know and leveraged it as best he could, to both say it and deny it.
And the point remains: words are taken in context. So saying the term itself is inoffensive, or saying others use it too, isn’t really significant. As someone else said – can Repubs start running ads saying “Obama, most liberal senator in the US. Sometimes a spade is just a spade.” Don’t you think Obama/family/supporters would find that offensive? Would you support McCain saying it’s just an expression, clearly no one called Obama a spade?
This whole pig and lipstick issue reinforces the notion that the American people are in general undereducated, regardless of their political affilitation. Nobody seems to understand metaphors. The fact that people on both sides of the aisle insist that Obama was calling Palin a pig shows that they cannot understand how a metaphor is used to emphasize a point. It’s fairly sad. In the aftermath, everyone is trying to figure out WHO is being called a pig and WHO is being called a smelly fish, missing the entire point that these metaphors addressed policy and ideology. But policy and ideology are conceptual, and conceptual reasoning is in short supply. Concrete thinking rules the day.
Posted by: Erik | September 11, 2008, 3:49 pm 3:49 pm
so obama supporters cant show any support for the BS crap line that mccain is now saying he is the true change agent…
we have to issue some golf claps or osmething or would that be too much support?
what would be the proper reaction?
obama can no longer use a saying that was made up before palin was even born, that countless people have used previous this occaions even john mccain
no palin now owns the word lipstick
if thats the case obama wants his change theme back mccain is justa lying sack of crud
The McCain campaign continues to make a further spectacle out of this election.
Why don’t you ask McCain why his competent and experienced vice presidential running mate has been sequestered for two weeks and has not answered a single question? Why don’t you ask him why Palin needs to be prepped for days on end to do a single interview? Why don’t you ask McCain and his handlers why they are so reluctant to talk about anything of substance that is affecting the people in this country? Why don’t you ask McCain if lying so blatantly bothers him at all?

I have faith in the American people
sanity will prevail.
Lets face it sarah palin is like a car crash , people will stop and take a look , but sooner or later they will keep on driving and head on home to some sanity.
Obama / biden 08
the palin/ jerry springer cirus was a nice show now back to reality.
So why is it silly for women to be angry that a man who wants to be POTUS would make such a sexist remark, no matter to whom it was refferring, but Bill Clinton says that Obama’s voting record on Iraq is a fairy tale, which it is, and the MSM explodes in an orgy or name calling and accusations of racism.
I’m sorry, Obama knows all about fake outrage, his man Axelrod is the master of fake accusations of racism against decent opponents.
I assure you ABC news and the rest of the MSM my outrage isnt fake. it isn’t manufactured.
Women aren’t “silly” or fake when they are outraged. We vote. Just wait until Nov to see how fake it is.
bhrandon…THE KEY WORD IS LIPSTICK! BE REAL CLEAR….AMERICANS IF TESTED DAYS AFTER PALIN’S SPEECH AND ASKED ABOUT LIPSTICK/PIT BULL OR LIPSTICK/PIG WOULD TIE THE TWO TOGETHER, JUST AS EVERY PERSON IN THOSE STANDS DID.
s.b
what are you talking about he flipped hillary clinton off YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR MIND
blatant sexism? do you even know what it is?
this is sexism on mccains part he cant even let his own vp out for fear she will get hurt because women arent very tough and they need to be protected
Okay Jake- Then WHAT were all those folks in the audience hootin’ and hollerin’ about then???
They got PRETTY EXCITED over a run of the mill statement that everbody uses, wouldn’t ya say???
debra
im sorry that people can make connections, people can make connections all over the place
just because you are looking for something and its in your psyche doesnt make it real…
you can cry all you want, it DOESNT MAKE IT REAL
you are overreacting
so obama = change, so mccain cant say taht word ever again
is taht true debra?
s.b.
“women” aren’t outraged
conservative republicans “are”…
the same conservative republicans that are okay when their politicians use the same language as they fight to keep women getting paid less.
same team same tactics
no answers no changes
2000 2004 …adn look where that got us.
now they want the election to be decided just like it was in 2000 and 2004
How’d that all work out for ya?
stupid is as stupid does.
it doesnt matter that mccains been sexist to his wife cindy, tahts ok, no problem there
never mind that mccain picked palin so he could clam the sexism card
thats fine right?
i mean why should you be mad about his exploitation of women by selecting this palin for vp, but obama said the word lipstick when refering to mccain and somehow that was code for palin
uh huh, go support mclame if he wins i hope you all get what you want
“Okay Jake- Then WHAT were all those folks in the audience hootin’ and hollerin’ about then???”
Are you a mind reader?
Did you know that McCain several times has used the lipstick on a pig remark to describe Hillary’s healthcare plan? One of these times, on video, the audience laughs and he lets out that creepy grin of his.
Does that mean the audience thought he was calling Hillary a pig?
Since you guys can apparently read minds, I figured I would ask.

Mrs. Penrose….I’m a Hillary girl and I chant….COUNTRY FRIST….McCAIN/PALIN. Now say it with me…COUNTRY FIRST, COUNTRY FIRST, COUNTRY FIRST.
P.S. – Hillary called me and she’s voting McCain too.
Well done Jake.
McCain campaign sinks now into silliness. No wonder people attach me with Bush. No difference when we were told: “Weapons of Mass Destruction” lies.
same distractions
same bologne
don’t look now middle class…the republicans are asking you to stay in that position bent over… while they tell you things that are going on behind your back…that it’s not about you being bent over …and it’s not about them saying from right behind you to keep your pants down around your knees… while your bent over…
thrown these bums out
same team same tactics
same results and same future as the last elections and the last 8 years
imagine 12 or 16…what that could do?
debra
it is obvious you are not putting country first if you are voting for palin mccain
they dont even talk about the issues anymore…
tehy just make stuff up…
palin mccain
country last character assassination first
Either Obama did indeed stoop to schoolyard/sexist jokes, or he’s too much of a bumbling idiot to have understood the potential for misinterpretation – despite the fact that his partisan audience got it right away.
Either way, no big deal. Just a lapse in judgment by Obama, we’ll see more of them now that he is actually experiencing pressure.

The Washington Post reports that Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) is “being asked by a local Republican activist to release more than 1,100 e-mails she withheld from a public records request, including 40 that were copied to her husband, Todd.” Invoking a favored practice of the Bush administration, Palin has claimed executive privilege to keep the e-mails secret — despite the fact many of them were sent to Todd, who is not an elected official.
Debra
Hillary is going to vote for the guy who called her daughter ugly.
Hillary is going to vote for the guy who doesn’t want her daughter to get paid the same as his son.
Hillary is going to vote for the guy whose healthcare plan will hurt mothers and daughters who will be ignored for 4 more years…because he wants the market to continue taking care of it?
Hillary is going to vote for the guy who laughed on tape when the woman is calling her “the *****”
Hillary is going to vote for the guy who will try to appoint a justice who can overthrow roe vs.wade and other women’s rights issues?
Hillary is going to vote for…
Obama.
I think the McCain camp over-reacted to the Obama smear – and yes, it was a smear. Demanding apologies is a theme of the Democrats, McCain needs to rise above that and accept Obama for what he is.

meanign the pig was the policies and Palin was the lipstick…which is actually a compliment…
but if he was aware…maybe it is he who laid bait because the republicans are looking like Bush 2000 and Bush 2004.

I have been sending the scathing articles on Kos, NYT, WP, etc. to my friends and posting them on independent forums.

It doesn’t matter what Obama “meant”. He showed a serious lapse in judgment by not understanding how it would be interpreted – even by his own partisans, much less the McCain camp.
The fact is, since he has slipped in the polls, Obama has shown himself as someone who slips and cracks under pressure. Somebody better get him a teleprompter, quick.

serious lapses in judgement are candidates who not only vote to go into wars that we shouldn’t but fight for us to go to war with that country even before the whacked President says we should.
Serious lapses in judgement are candidates who ignore where the terrorist are and is falling apart… and say we should instead stay spending billions of dollars for a politically still unsettled and fake peace and then have the joint chiefs saying the year later “we may lose the other war where the terrorists actually are” because we stayed over extended in the other location …
serious lapses in judgement are candidates who say bomb bomb bomb another rogue country who wants to get nuclear weapons…what’s the dfastest way to get a rogue nation nuclear weapons…threaten them on tape with bombing in a jovial manner and look like the whacko they try to portray our country as that they can use to go to other countries saying “look at the crazy war mongering despots help us get nuclear weapons”.
serious lapses in judgement are picking the person who would take over for you when she has no knowledge of a single issue we face.
serious lapses in judgement is when a country is going down the tubes and all you can say is what the guy who got us here said when he ran…and have no changes to what he is already doing.
serious lapses in judgement are laughing on video for the world to see when a person asks about our ex first lady…and leading woman leader “what are we going to do about the b!tch”
and you…chuckle.
serious lapses in judgement is when you tell a group of individuals that the young incredibly sweet daughter of an American President and First Lady…whom you tell them to their face that you are their friend…
then you make a joke about how “ugly” their incredibly sweet daughter is. A young woman who does not deserve it in any way.
serious lapses in judgment are voters who vote on the distractions and tactics that this same team gave us in 2000 and 2004…and screwed us as bad as we have for 8 years…
a serious lapse in judgement would to not be to learn from those tactics
and a most seriosu lapse in judgement would be to not read their platforms in detail and see that Mccain’s is the same road we are on.
Obama’s is detailed logical and most importantly not heading for the cliff that we are presently flying toward.
Ms. Palin is famous for her line about wearing lipstick. John McCain is 72 years old and calls himself an agent of change.
So Mr. Obama makes a “pig in lipstick” reference and immediately follows it up with a reference to an “old” fish called “change”, that stinks.
But some people can’t find any reason to think this just might have been intentional? That’s unbelievable.
And what about the fact that he’s done it before?
Remember when Mr. Obama was battling Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination and she started winning states? On April 17, at a rally in Raleigh NC, Obama mentioned her name and then conspicuously put his hand toward his face and scratched his cheek twice – with his middle finger. The audience spontaneously erupted — they knew exactly what he was doing.
Barack Obama has a pattern of this stupid, childish, schoolyard-quality behavior. You can pretend all you want, but he did what he did.

Let’s focus on something more urgent than lipstick on 9/11. Let’s focus on the heroes of the Ground Zero community who are dying, and who desperately being silenced and forgotten by the Republicans in power.
9/11 should be one of the central themes in this election.
Not only because of the continuing global war on terrorism.
But even more so because of the Republican Administration’s betrayal of the folks who did the dirty work in the days, weeks and months after the terrorist attacks on the WTC.
Some 40,000 men and women have worked at the Ground Zero site. First, looking for survivors and collecting body parts. And then, for many months, clearing up the the immense amount of debris and dust.
70% of them suffer from illnesses related to Ground Zero. Many have developed aggressive forms of cancer and died an premature death in the past years, their lungs and other vital parts destroyed by the heavily polluted dust and particles at Ground Zero.
At the time of their heroic work at Ground Zero they were told – on behalf of our Republican Administration – that the dusty air was SAFE to breathe. Now thousands of the folks who are heralded as heroes by George W. Bush and John McCain have been thrown out of their health insurancies, while our Government has closed its doors for all those begging for help and assistance.
These heroes are dying, and nobody is caring about them anymore. The Government’s hope is, that America will simply forget about them.
The betrayal of the Ground Zero community is one of the greatest scandals in recent American history, and nobody seems to care.
Please, if your care about these people and value the courageous and dirty work they did for America, often as volunteers, get informed on how our Government betrayed these people. Find out yourself what happened to them, what their current desperate situation is, and what a new administration could and should do to help them, starting with fixing their health insurances.
Don’t forget our greatest heroes on this tragic day.
And be sure to think about them, before you consider to put these very same “patriotic” Republicans in power again.
Posted by: Ground Zero Community | September 11, 2008, 4:39 pm 4:39 pm
and just to note… when has a politician used the phrase “lipstick on a pig” and the crowd didn’t laugh.
that’s the point…
it’s funny.
The picture of women holding McCain/Palin posters and wearing big, fake red lips are disgusting. This is a serious election. The Republicans and Sarah Palin has reduced this election to a party for a woman that does not deserve this much attention. People are losing their jobs, homes, and they’re hurting. And what does the media do, parade Sarah Palin around like she’s the best thing that has happened to American in a long time. Please do some serious journalism and tell the people the truth about the candidates. I think if you’re going to talk about Sarah Palin, give equal time to Joe Biden.

If the truth shall set us free, will you find as many clips, any clips of Obama using the common term before Palin’s Lipstick remark at the convention?
Hey Amy – You were already not going to vote for Obama so you saw what you wanted to see. Republicans are all the same. One set of rules for them and another set for everyone else. According to your twisted logic, once Palin used the lipstick joke, no democrats are allowed to use jokes with the word lipstick in it. I think that sums up your whole twisted small minded logic.
did you here about the change to this failing …well…”everything we have going” actually…
that john mccain wants to make?
yeah neither have I.
one specific change that is different than Bush’s policies he is and has been doing…just one different change
and please don’t say the same “every 4 years” earmarks argument that Bush used as well.
same team same tactics same policies same platform same lobbyists in the inner circle…
different year.
Again, on behalf of the Ground Zero community, let’s focus on something more urgent than lipstick on 9/11….
Let’s focus on the heroes of the Ground Zero community who are dying, and who are desperately being silenced and forgotten by the Republicans in power.
THINK about them.

Bless you Lois in California. I’m from a small town (pop. about 8-9000)and I am not a liberal. I go to Church, I teach my children faith, good citizenship and caring for others. But I’m going under. We live paycheck-to-paycheck. I bought a condo 2 years ago that has lost so much value that my credit rating now suffers. And McCain thinks taxing my medical benefits is the answer. In return I get a $5000 tax credit (total for my family)? Are you kidding? That policy won’t impact people with big salaries – the benefit is a tiny percentage of their total income, but it will hit working folks like me HARD. My work won’t just increase my salary – they’ll tell me to opt out of insurance, pay the taxes or quit. McCain supporters just say I’m lazy and looking for a handout. I say, they sound like Mr. Potter. Here’s the exchange: Potter, “What does that get us? A discontented, lazy rabble
instead of a thrifty working class.
And all because a few starry-eyed
dreamers like Peter Bailey stir them up and fill their heads with a lot of impossible ideas.”
George Baily (Jimmy Stewart): – Now, I say…- Just a minute. Now, hold on, Mr. Potter. You’re right when you say my father was no business man. I know that. Why he ever started this cheap penny-ante Building and Loan, I’ll never know. But neither you nor anybody else can say anything against his character, because his whole life was…
Why, in the twenty-five years since
he and Uncle Billy started this thing,he never once thought of himself.
Isn’t that right, Uncle Billy? He didn’t save enough money to send Harry to school, let alone me.
But he did help a few people get out of your slums, Mr. Potter. And what’s wrong with that? Why…here,
you are all businessmen here.
Doesn’t it make them better citizens?
Doesn’t it make them better customers?
You…you said that uh…
what’d you say just a minute ago…
They, they had to wait and save their money before they even thought of a decent home. Wait! Wait for what?
Until their children grow up and leave them? Until they’re so old and broken-down that they… Do you know how long it takes a working man to save five thousand dollars? Just remember this, Mr. Potter, that this rabble you’re talking about…they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community. Well, it is too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms
and a bath?”
Is it too much to ask McCain to keep his hands off my medical benefits that I need to keep my kids safe and healthy? I believe in the Obama “bottom up” approach. It does make us better customers AND better citizens when we have a few dollars to spare.

The outrage is only real here. In the campaign headquarters, it’s all chess moves, Spy Vs Spy, Us vs Them.
But that is not a change. Politics has been thus for all of my life. The Change this time is the self-promoting media who use this election for their own election: ratings.
I will vote for the candidate that convinces me he or she will be there with me when the tsunami rolls in, putting out a hand to life me up, and pointing to higher ground.
Post November, we have the same problems. We should be pushing both sides to the center of that conversation and if some tell you the center will not hold, then let them walk the rail, and if they fall away, only remember they chose that, not you.

We haven’t seen it yet, but there’s something big that’s gonna deal a real blow to the Palin bid. There’s lots of odd stuff swirling around her and something is going to break over her like a thunderbolt. You can just feel it in the air.
What an insult to the American people. Do you have any idea how many people don’t have heath care, or have lost homes, or have a disabled kid home from Iraq? And you’re focusing on this trivia? Is this People magazine?

Jake,
You told the truth!! I saw the speech. I am registered Republican. But sure am not voting for John McCain!!!! The outrageous lies are too much!!
I am a white woman college educated medical professional who was raised on a farm in Nebraska close to a town of 400. I now live in Calif0ornia.
I know gender bias!! I have had gender bias used against me. I know very well when it is and when it is not used!!
I have seen this whole speech of Barak Obama. This was no referral to Sarah Palin!!! Referral was to John McCain and Republican Politics.
Republicans have sure pushed this lady away from them!! I got very tired of finding all the lies they made!! I am ashamed of my party!
Has there ever been a Presidential or VP candidate in history who has received the same treatment as Sarah Palin? She is treated like Queen Elizabeth. A major interview with totally scripted questions? What’s happened to journalism? Is the rough-tough Sarah too timid to face Charlie Gibson? Come on. I teach my daughter that if she wants equality she better to be ready to be treated exactly in the same manner as a man. Apparently, that does hold true for the delicate Miss Pailn.

Posted by: chris | September 11, 2008, 5:11 pm 5:11 pm
I think I’m a big fan of “more of the same”…Since 2000:
- I went to graduate school (with no government assistance) and have doubled my income
- I did not buy a home I could not afford in the first place so I’m not in danger of foreclosure
- I owe no credit card debt and have continuted to put money away for retirement (in lieu of buying big screen TVs, new cars, etc. – I’m 41 and am not counting on Social Security to get me through retirement)
Obama = Socialism (Marxism?)
Obama = No personal accountability Obama = No personal responsibility
Obama = No talent @$$clown
mara…..i won’t be voting for her (my child deserves the best and only Senator Clinton is the best choice), but palin, by no means, has been treated with respect like the Queen….

The real republican energy plan
The two-year, $5.3 million investigation by Interior’s inspector general found workers at the Minerals Management Service’s royalty collection office in Denver partying, having sex, using drugs and accepting gifts and ski trips and golf outings from energy company representatives with whom they did government business.
The investigations exposed “a culture of ethical failure” and an agency rife with conflicts of interest, Inspector General Earl E. Devaney said.

A pretty good piece, squarely falling in line with the Obama line, which is basically right in this case. But to inject just a smidge of balance wouldn’t have been so bad, would it? The comparison to McCain’s use of the line is off-base, since when Obama used it, it was in the midst of Palinmania — with perhaps her most famous line being the lipstick line. YOu think Obama wasn’t trying to make a cute crack at that? Of course it was an allusion to Palin’s joke and of course he wasn’t calling her a pig. Give Obama some credit for not being completely incompetent in walking into a firestorm.
Democratic Gov. of Illinois defended Palin’s executive experience by saying the decisions she has to make are like those of a president.
He thinks it is a big mistake for the Democrats to question her experience.
I guess he has been offended by all of the negative talk about governors.
He is a BHO supporter.

How the GOP may use “lipsticks” to paint the issues during this election. My sister gave me some clues.
-Environment/Energy: GOP will not paint it Green and they will use oil based paint.
-Economic: GOP will paint it Blue to hide the Red
-Iraq War: GOP will paint it for hot climate and the brand is Halliburton.
-Education: GOP will use artificial colors that make the bad students look bright.
-Immigration: GOP will apply all paints on the Great Wall of USA Tourist attraction only.
-Abortion: GOP will paint it with illegal substance and people may go to jail.
-LGTB issues: GOP will not have paint available.
-Homeland Security: GOP will use paint with Tom Ridge’s color-coded warning system to protect us.
-Health Care: GOP will use colors to cover the pale look-sick of uninsured citizens
-Taxes: GOP will use expensive paints that can only be afforded by the top 2%.
-Social Security: GOP will use colors to make it invisible
Have any of you been raped before?
How would you feel after you have suffered one of the most vicious, devastating, humiliating crimes a woman, or child, can face, and a the Major of that city sends you a message by saying “we feel for you: tough luck: pay for your own rape kit”.
Well, that is the message Sarah Palin as mayor in Wasilla sent by making rape victims pay $300 to $1000 for a rape kit. Is she an advocate of the criminal or the victim?
My rape was so awful that I had to have parts of my female reproductive system removed, and I cannot have children. It makes me very sad to write this, but I have to speak out.
I never thought that I could be a victim of rape. You never know if it may happen to you, your sister, your mother, your daughter, your friend, your wife. You never know.
I am an advocate of Joe Biden’s “Violence Against Women Act” that support women and children against such crimes.
Alaska has the highest incidences of violence against women. Wasilla was one or one of a couple of cities that charged rape victims for the kits that would help prosecute their offenders. The state had to pass a law against this, and Sarah Palin was not happy about losing the city losing revenue.
The man who raped and brutally beat me is in prison, thank G_d. They matched his DNA to another victim. I can only imagine what would have happen if I had to pay for a rape kit because I didn’t have any money.
Sarah Palin is no friend to women. And if you think she is, I would hope that you never have to beat, cut, and raped to figure out that she was not your friend after all.
Leah J. H.
I thought that Karl Rove or some other political cretan was inspired to come up with that pathetic analogy…but I just learned that my friend’s grandfather used that expression a lot in the 50′s; so, even though it is still ineffective, it is not a “new” expression. Anyone with half a brain will understand that the Republicans will try to make mincemeat out of everything that comes out of your mouth; and the media jumps on the band wagon (of course they’re all owned by the Republican party). It’s a sad state of affairs in these UN-united States when an entertainer gets “the hook” by making a statement that doesn’t agree with the powerful. The next thing you know, you’ve been black-balled and banished from any entertainment venue for life! If you’ll notice, doctors won’t dare say anything against them because they have a whole lot to lose. We’ve all been dumbed-down by the drug industry that keeps padding the pockets of Washington, and they’re hoping there’s no NEO who lives outside the Matrix. When did this country turn into a corporacracy? When the first George Bush said, “Read my lips” (did you ever notice he doesn’t have any lips) Oh well, sucks to be him, cause he can’t wear any lipstick. LMAO! I must admit that I am disappointed in Barrack for stooping to their level to drive a point home. It was a lame expression and that’s all he should apologize for…Not for hurting little miss Fargo whiner Sarah…but for ever uttering those stupid words in the first place. But if we’ve learned anything from past experience, the only way you can fight these pit bulls is to get just as mean and feisty as they are. Remember, they have Haliburton on their side. And that’s what Hillary was trying to tell us all along. Ya gotta get down and dirty. Let the blood and slobber fly!

Don’t make Obama’s pig with lipstick/old stinking fish comments (along with him giving Hillary Clinton the finger)out to be unimportant.
Behavior like that tells you the quality of the man and his maturity level.
If a head of state gets him angry will we see that finger again? Will Obama make a clumsy insulting comment without mentioning the head of state’s name?
Part of being President is having the personal qualities that befit the office. Acting like a 4th grader during recess doesn’t qualify.

Rl in Illinois: sorry but the story isn’t a story Palin had women in Wasilla charged for the medical collection of rape evidence. That is true, lasted until the Alaskan Legislature passed a law requiring all Alaskan Law enforcemant Angencies to pay for the rape evidence collection out of their own budgets.
Not only is she clueless(look at her high school understanding of NATO), she’s a liar
When Gibson said if under the NATO treaty, the United States would have to go to war if Russia again invaded Georgia, Palin responded: “Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you’re going to be expected to be called upon and help.
“And we’ve got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable,” she told Gibson.
The Russians invaded after a Georgian military assault killed some of their peacekeeping troops.

Do you guys get the feeling that we are more and more looking like the Roman Empire before its fall?
We start wars and get loans from China to pay for them. What happens when China want to collect their money?
Scary…The things that led to the Fall of the Roman Empire were a decline in:
Morals and Values (think about their barbaric desire for “red meat” with the gladiators)
Public Health
Political Corruption
Unemployment
Urban decay
Inferior Technology
Military Spending
Can you substitute Rome with US? Scary thought but we are getting there. We already don’t have respect from our allies, and we are becoming the enemy to a lot of nations.
Who do think will take us out? Russia, China? After all, we are owned by China.

To: FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE
I have been thinking about all the things I learned in history classes. When I studied history I though how great it was that we have greatly advanced.
Now I wonder what people will think generations from now when the read about the once great United States of America that lost its standing in the world.
During the elections they talked about flag pins, lipstick, whether it was arrogant for Senator Obama to give a speech in Germany (where over 150,000 voting Americans live), but they did not talk about how to reduce the deficit or feed the hungry or how to stop killing innocent people in an unnecessary war that put the country into a tremendous deficit.
I think they will say we were stupid and deserved what happened.

And how did the Venezuelans and RUssians get close Jim?
Because Bush in a snit about Hugo Chavez calling him names decided to ban arms sale to Venezuela including spare parts for the small fleet of F-16 they had. We also spread the word to other countries with the F-16 to not sell parts to Venezuela.
Eventually they bought Russian fighters and that was the beginning of their military ties.
You’re playing checkers in a chess world Jim. These things don’t happen in a vacuum.

GOOGLE any of the following;
check earmarks,
check what McCain was saying about ANOTHER Veteran during the previous election,
check how many ‘republicans’ have used the term ‘lipstick on a pig’,
check both their senate records on Sponsoring bills, and what type of bills they sponsored, AND how much bipartisan support they EACH had, and WHO voted the most with George Bush.
The library of congress records can’t be spin cycled..
You want facts, Go check them, then stop posting your republican lies.

Clearly other politicians on both sides of the aisle have used the lipstick on a pig comment before, but the flack that Obama is getting is because he used it after Sarah Palin likened herself and all hockey moms to bulldogs, with the difference being lipstick.
At the very least, Obama is stupid for saying it. At the worst, he meant it, since it was a clear comparison to the statement Palin made just a week ago. The audience knew it too, because they took it as a slam on Palin as evidenced by their reaction. Had Obama really not meant it, he would have corrected himself right then and there when he realized the way the crowd took his statement, but he didn’t.
Interestingly, there was a cartoon depicting Palin as a pig four days before. This just supports what everyone knows — Obama did call Palin a pig. And lots of people in the crowd agreed in or approved of his statement in laughter.
“Warner Todd Huston noted that Obama’s remarks sounded remarkably similar to a speech bubble in that ran in a Tom Toles cartoon the same day, September 5, in the Washington Post.
It’s not too far-fetched to say Team Obama is cribbing his stump speech laugh lines from the liberal funnies.”

the media is not objective, they are trying to help Obama.

He makes McCain’s campaign look SHAMEFUL BY COMPARISON.

Jake,
You are absolutely right!

God save America from McSame and Palin.

so now you people are saying not only should obama be blamed for anyone he knows and what they have done, he now should be blamed for people and what they perceive…
lol what?
you people are as nuts as the mccain camp… no wonder you support this guy.
mccain camp is losing its mind and so are his supporters….
its now impossible to use the word lipstick because now that word belongs to palin…
and nevermind that people didnt get upset that she was calling herself a vicious dog and thats fine, but how many politicians have used this phrase?
soooo many, but obama meant palin, even though he never mentioned palin at all… he says mccain
i mean seriously, this is your type of thinking
if mccain was tortured he must like torture
since mccain was tortured by the vietnamese he supports their actions because he knows them…
it is illogical and thats what you all and the mccain camp are… illogical freak jobs who no longer are talking about a single issue other then this palin women.

Wake up folks this not a fan fair!!!!

mccain claiming himself as a change agent is like putting lipstick on a pig, its still a pig
that to you means palin?
even though palin was never mentioned?
mccain today said the people of flight 93 probably saved his life by stopping the terrorists,
i believe that to mean he wanted to blow up a building and was saddened when it didnt happen
lol you are illogical
Posted by: Bhrandon | September 11, 2008, 3:46 pm 3:46 pm
Posted by: Farly | September 11, 2008, 3:46 pm 3:46 pm
Concrete thinking rules the day.

we have to issue some golf claps or osmething or would that be too much support?
what would be the proper reaction?
obama can no longer use a saying that was made up before palin was even born, that countless people have used previous this occaions even john mccain
no palin now owns the word lipstick

Why don’t you ask McCain why his competent and experienced vice presidential running mate has been sequestered for two weeks and has not answered a single question? Why don’t you ask him why Palin needs to be prepped for days on end to do a single interview? Why don’t you ask McCain and his handlers why they are so reluctant to talk about anything of substance that is affecting the people in this country? Why don’t you ask McCain if lying so blatantly bothers him at all?

So why is it silly for women to be angry that a man who wants to be POTUS would make such a sexist remark, no matter to whom it was refferring, but Bill Clinton says that Obama’s voting record on Iraq is a fairy tale, which it is, and the MSM explodes in an orgy or name calling and accusations of racism.
I’m sorry, Obama knows all about fake outrage, his man Axelrod is the master of fake accusations of racism against decent opponents.

Sarah Palin (R-AK) is “being asked by a local Republican activist to release more than 1,100 e-mails she withheld from a public records request, including 40 that were copied to her husband, Todd.” Invoking a favored practice of the Bush administration, Palin has claimed executive privilege to keep the e-mails secret — despite the fact many of them were sent to Todd, who is not an elected official.

serious lapses in judgement are candidates who not only vote to go into wars that we shouldn’t but fight for us to go to war with that country even before the whacked President says we should.
Posted by: dl | September 11, 2008, 4:37 pm 4:37 pm

I think that sums up your whole twisted small minded logic.

yeah neither have I.
one specific change that is different than Bush’s policies he is and has been doing…just one different change
and please don’t say the same “every 4 years” earmarks argument that Bush used as well.
same team same tactics same policies same platform same lobbyists in the inner circle…
different year.

Again, on behalf of the Ground Zero community, let’s focus on something more urgent than lipstick on 9/11….
Let’s focus on the heroes of the Ground Zero community who are dying, and who are desperately being silenced and forgotten by the Republicans in power.
THINK about them.
