‘Thou Shalt Not Steal’ Apparently Not in AP Stylebook

Interesting story in the AP today.

Was even better when ABC News wrote it yesterday.

Wheres the stories on Obama and Biden – Obama calling Biden the next President of the US!
Please nothing else to report in the liberal AP?

Posted by: spock | September 19, 2008, 3:07 pm 3:07 pm

Anyways, aren’t we being petty here (albeit funny)? Surely two news organization can cover the same story, no?
Keep reporting. You do a great job. But who am I to tell you that

Posted by: Question | September 19, 2008, 3:11 pm 3:11 pm

Look, in a Palin administration, the AP will no longer exist. They will be disappeared like Carly Fiorina.

Who is the email hacker? Could it be the son of a Democrat from Tennessee? and does this email hacker have ties to David Plouffe (one of Obama’s higher ups?)

Posted by: Kitty | September 19, 2008, 3:17 pm 3:17 pm

The silence of the MSM regarding the identity of the hacker who illegally gained access to Governor Palin’s email is absolutely astounding.
When I read the title of this post, I thought that maybe, possibly someone was FINALLY coming to the fore.
Silly me!!!
The MSM has been totally pro-Obama since the start of this campaign, and has not bothered to hide their bias in any way.
Hillary was called a whiner by the MSM the first time she ever opened her mouth and hinted that possibly Obama had been receiving preferential treatment from the press. Instead of listening to her opinion on the matter and correcting their biased attitudes, the media has just continued with their non-objective reporting.
An overhaul of media practices in this country might be in order along with the one being planned for the economy and Wall Street.

Posted by: SandyB | September 19, 2008, 3:21 pm 3:21 pm

And republicans didn’t want Bill Clinton wandering around the Whitehouse with nothing to do. If Palin had her way, and if her practice in Alaska is anything to go by, Todd Palin would have a hand in running the country.
Todd Palin? Are you kidding me, his oilskins hung up on the door of the Oval office – still not willing to answer subpoenas? I supposed McCain really doesn’t care about the country as long he gets elected (of course if does he should make sure and not let VP Palin stand behind him – he won’t see the knife until it’s too late).

Posted by: Joe | September 19, 2008, 3:23 pm 3:23 pm

Kitty
I don’t care about Palin’s email she should be using public email system for state business.
She also should not have made woman pay for their own rape kits or seek to make woman who are raped have the baby.
She is off!

Posted by: Andrew | September 19, 2008, 3:24 pm 3:24 pm

It’s sad that our citizens have to resort to hacking to find out who this woman is or how she governs we’re supposed to buy a pig in a poke because McCain vouches for her? I want to know more, not less, and I have faith that my fellow American’s are going to do everything in their power to make sure we don’t put another Bush/Cheney administration into office — even if it means breaking the law to find out what she is hiding.

Posted by: Angry American Voter | September 19, 2008, 3:29 pm 3:29 pm

The McCain campaign have no desire to have this hacking looked into – they don’t want their own operatives to get caught.
The McCain campaign leaked Palin’s e-mail addresses to the press a couple of days before the story broke.
These are the e-mail accounts that Palin used to conduct all government business – to circumvent disclosure laws that would apply if she used government accounts (this is shady in itself).
Now if Troopergate ever gets the court all the e-mail evidence has dissappeared – how convenient.

I guess it’s true what they say: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Posted by: D.H. | September 19, 2008, 3:31 pm 3:31 pm

So if two news organizations attend the same event, do you automatically assume that the organization that posted its story second stole the story from the first organization?
As a former reporter, my guess is that the AP covered the event but that the reporter missed Palin’s “slip.” Other agencies reported it, and then the AP verified the slip and reported it. That’s an ooops, not a theft theft.
I’m no fan of the AP, but really, Tapper, you should know better.

The more coverage the better!

Posted by: hang | September 19, 2008, 3:51 pm 3:51 pm

Uh. If this email hacker worked for Obama:
#1 – He would have downloaded the entire email archive and not just taken some screenshots and downloaded a couple family pictures.
#2 – He would have been foreign. Why in hell would you hire someone from the US?
#3 – He would not have posted to 4chan with details including the password to the email account. Come on, professional hackers aren’t stupid. This guy was stupid.
I swear. You Rush fans are too much.

Posted by: johnTX | September 19, 2008, 3:56 pm 3:56 pm

@johnTX: No smart operative would have done what you suggest. If caught at that which they certainly would be, the Obama campaign member that orchestrated it would most certainly be indicted and go to Federal prison.
No, when in need, push a pawn. That is how that works. That is why any connections to Plouffe would be investigated to see if any incentive or encouragement to commit the act can be proven.
Sad but necessary: the same judicial decisions that protected the Pentagon Papers protects the news organizations that released this material. It will not protect the kid or anyone who encouraged or helped him. I suspect that working out the details there are why the release of information about the hacker is proceeding slowly.

You folks are WAY behind the news cycle on this hacker thing.
“Democratic Rep. Mike Kernell of Tennessee unveiled the hacker who broke into Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s e-mail—his 20-year-old son, David Kernell.
After a flurry of Internet discussions naming his son as the culprit, Rep. Kernell confirmed that his son was behind the infiltration, according to The Tennessean. The paper said Kernell talked to his son Thursday. ”
(FYI, “The Tennessean” is the Nashville newspaper)

I do agree with most of your post on the email hacker, and I would like to think that they are taking their time to make sure they have it right, and in reality, would actually prefer it that way so as not to fumble the prosecution.
What worries me though, is always the possibility that something underhanded could also be taking place, and everyone is rushing to get their stories straight, and cover things up, and that it will be two years from now, just like with Watergate, before we find out who lies at the end of the money trail.

The movie Blade has what I think the best summary of how government is using the middle class and lower income taxpayers to support the mistakes and income of the upper 2%:
“These people are our food, not our allies.”

Hey Why Not?….Every band starts as the warm up act until they get top billing…It’s obvious that McCain can’t draw flies without her…Shoot. She should ask for a cut of the concession sales!

After this final bail out, no one is going to get a tax cut.
I’m sure both McCain and Obama will continue to push it and while technically Obama pays for his with a tax hike for the rich, it is extremely unlikely that either one will be able to push such legislation through Congress. I mean, maybe, maybe with a democratic Congress Obama could, but it is unlikely. McCain’s though is dead in the water.

Rabbi Menachem Frohman, one of the major founders of the Zionist settler movement in Israel and the Chief Rabbi of the settlement of Tekoa has gone on record saying that he believes Barack Obama is the only hope for peace in the Middle East.
Wow.
So much for Jews thinking Barack is anti-Israel.

McCain’s got a new “lady”-friend, so I’m sure he doesn’t mind! LOL
McCain/Palin are above the law in their own puny little worlds. The rest of us know better.
AP is all republican all the time, so Jake won’t be getting any “credits” from them since he’s turned unbiased.
Kudos to Jake!
Obama/Biden 08!

The Bush strategy for going down in history: At least do something for the rich and leave enormous debt for the dems to handle (since Dems will surely win ’08).
McCain is still confused about what “agencies” and “businesses” are and who he can fire if he were president (Palin was sure she could “ask for the resignation” of her underlings).
Palin and her new running mate are a joke. SNL couldn’t do the McCain campaign any better than McCain has.
The Fed’s “new” idea was proposed by Lehman just before the Feds refused to help that sacrificial lamb. The downward cycle began just in time for a republican “rescue” of the rich at Lehman’s shareholders/taxpayers pensions.
“Good job Brownie” said Bush (did you hear the McCain echo?), and don’t try to stick in any help for the middle-class because my republican followers in the house will fight it tooth and nail. We don’t have a minute to waste! Let’s seal this debt/burden on the poor/middle class while we’ve got all this momentum going.

Seems like Jake covered that one 2 or 3 days ago

When will elitist community organizing stop getting in the way of Republican Socialism? The Liberal Fascists are responsible for so much of the manipulation of truth in this country that I think it’s time to admit that conservative-progressivism is our only hope for the past. And by the past I mean the future.

news: a big WHOOPS for Palin
“An internal government document obtained by ABC News appears to contradict Sarah Palin’s most recent explanation for why she fired her public safety chief, the move which prompted the now-contested state probe into “Troopergate.”
“The last straw,” her lawyer argued, came when he planned a trip to Washington, D.C., to seek federal funds for an aggressive anti-sexual-violence program. The project, expected to cost from $10 million to $20 million a year for five years, would have been the first of its kind in Alaska, which leads the nation in reported forcible rape.
The McCain-Palin campaign echoed the charge in a press release it distributed Monday, concurrent with Palin’s legal filing. “Mr. Monegan persisted in planning to make the unauthorized lobbying trip to D.C.,” the release stated.
But the governor’s staff authorized the trip, according to an internal travel document from the Department of Public Safety, released Friday in response to an open records request.
The document, a state travel authorization form, shows that Palin’s chief of staff, Mike Nizich, approved Monegan’s trip to Washington D.C. “to attend meeting with Senator Murkowski.” The date next to Nizich’s signature reads June 18.”

Jazzman,
Approving that trip is proof of that he had gone ‘rogue’ by actually going.

Senator McCain’s Book
“Worth the Fighting For: A Memoir” (2002)
“I didn’t decide to run for President to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be President because it had become my ambition to be President. I was sixty-two years old when I made the decision and I thought it was my one shot at the prize.”
Explains alot John McCain ready to lie because he doesnt care about anything else he only wants to be President.

Belle;
well then, the only remedy for the kid who hacks emails and is the son of a Democrat is to give him the sentence approved by ‘pro-life’ advocates:
…………… the death penalty …………
BTW; isn’t Tenn also where all those ‘subtle’
Republican ‘race ads’ were made?

Posted by: Jazzman | September 20, 2008, 10:20 am 10:20 am

this is a ‘good’ sign:
“McCain, who now poses as the scourge of Wall Street, was praising financial deregulation like 10 seconds ago — and promising that if we marketize health care, it will perform as well as the financial industry!”
- McCain says he’ll make the health care industry work like Wall Street…..
…….. time for his medication ………

Report from the campaign field. I am in Wisconsin today which is now a toss up state. The McCain group I belong to left Chicago early this morning at 6am and now we are in Lacrosse area. We have registered 472 republicans so far and that is just the ones i am counting. I have been talking to people and no one is for Obama, most feel that he is full of bull. This is very encouraging. One voter said the polls are misleading the only people who answer them tend to be Obama supporters. She said that when Obama went down in the polls his camp sent more BOTS out. She feel that he may nit carry Wisconsin.
