Todd Palin’s DUI

ABC News’s Bret Hovell reports: Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s husband was arrested more than 20 years ago for driving under the influence of alcohol, the McCain-Palin campaign confirmed today.

Todd Pali was 22 years old at the time and was not yet not married to the presumptive Republican vice presidential nominee, but was dating her. He  was pulled over by authorities in a small Alaskan town but not involved in any accident, and no one was hurt in the incident. He was briefly taken to jail following his arrest.

The campaign confirmed news of Palin’s arrest on the same day it announced that the Palin’s daughter, Bristol, is pregnant. Bristol is 17 and unmarried.

Boy, can we say Obama Hussein op research? we know ABC couldn’t dig it up by themelves. they couldn’t fight themselves out of a paper bag.
In stories about VP Palin, we see the word “conservative” as an adjective to describe Palin. Although, she may well be a conservative,
I just wanted to point out, for what it’s worth, that I can’t recall ever seeing the adjective “liberal” before either Biden or Obama’s name.
Why is that? The Wall Street Journal just reported the results of a National Journal study of the US Senate voting records. The conclusion was that Obama is most liberal senator in the Senate and Biden is #3. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121962256899067705.html?mod=opinion_main_commentaries
I suspect it’s because most of the mainstream press are themselves “liberal”, yet like to think of themselves as moderate and hence think Obama and Biden as “moderates”. But as the objective survey by the National Journal indicates, Obama is the most liberal senator and Biden is just behind in the #3 spot.
Here’s a story about how the major TV networks use the words “liberal” or “conservative” as applied to the presidential tickets. http://newsbusters.org/blogs/brent-baker/2008/08/29/cbs-nbc-label-palin-conservative-didnt-tag-biden-liberal

So what? That’s REALLY scraping the bottom of the barrel for click-throughs.

Posted by: SoWhat | September 1, 2008, 3:47 pm 3:47 pm

Let’s see, the husband of the VP got a DUI 22 years ago.
But the presidential candidate was frying his brain on cocaine 22 years ago.
This is a toughie.

This is a nonissue. 20 years ago and a spouse of the VP nominee. Obama admitted to using drugs when he was younger. Shame on the Democrats for digging this up. Get a grip

Posted by: K | September 1, 2008, 3:48 pm 3:48 pm

When Biden was picked for VP, you never saw the word “liberal” being assigned to his name even though he’s the 3rd most liberal senator.
However all day after the Palin pick, the word “conservative” or “staunch conservative” was attatched to her name.
And you wonder why the media has worse rapproval ratings than the ambulance chasers.

Posted by: Jo | September 1, 2008, 3:49 pm 3:49 pm

It happened 20 years ago. Hopefully Palin has changed, and I assumed he has.

Posted by: Ben Straub | September 1, 2008, 3:49 pm 3:49 pm

This has to fall under the so-what? category.
Todd Palin is not on the ballot in November.
However, Obama is.
If ABC News is concerned about a candidate’s past substance abuse problem, it should focus on Obama’s admitted past illegal abuse of cocaine.

I don’t care if in 1982 her husband was arrested for racing down the main drag of Wasila, AK on a ski-doo, wearing nothin but a ruby encrusted thong and screaming “There’s no place like home”.
It doesn’t have any bearing on whether or not she can do the job. Personally, I don’t thinks she does, or has the right political ideas – So can we stop it with all the Soapopery going around on the networks?
There’s a couple hurricanes out thar y’know.

Posted by: Get a real job | September 1, 2008, 3:53 pm 3:53 pm

Wonderful. The mud-slinging contest has begun. Too bad that this is the best they can come up with. Her husband before she got married, 20 year ago when he was 22?. Get real here. Is that the best you can do to attack Palin?
Or her daughter pregnancy and her own earlier: It just tells me that she is not a hypocrite like Al Gore who preaches one thing but behaves differently if it inconvenient for himself to turn off that light in his house or not fly around in that gulfstream gasguzzler.
Likely it will make her better understand people choosing differently and since she is for small government influence in private decisions, likely she will not obstruct that. Just look at her first act as governer: she veto something that would harm gay couples.
Tells me that she knows the difference between private decisions and public policy. And that she is no Al Gore or Michelle Obama who gets $310.000 for an administrative job at an “non-profit” hospital while still saying that medical costs are so high.

And the list goes on!!!
Forget about Gustov, that was a joke, only a CAT 1 and missed for the most part New Orleans… The BIG STORM brewing for the Republicans is their candidates choice of Palin as VP!!!
The biggest disaster for the Republicans in the last 50 years!!!

Must be nice to have the liberal mainstream media on your side.
Example? It took 3 days for ABC to uncover something that happened to the HUSBAND of the VP pick that happened 22 years ago.
However it took a YEAR for ABC to report on Obama’s radical leftwing, hate-spewing pastor of 22 years. And that was only after Sean Hannity got started on it.
Amazing. And yet Obama will still lose. There is a God in heaven after all, Mr. Moore.

This is not news. The media is in a frenzy to find a smoking gun on this lady, not because she’s a republican, or a woman, but because she is not known, was not vetted properly, and most importantly she could become the next president if and when McCain croaks. For a man who picked up the argument the Candidates should not be on OJT it is proof the Republican party’s only goal is power not the people’s or the nations safety, security and progress.
Because of McCain’s stupid ploy to attract Hillary voters with a PTA president, mayor of 6,000, 18 month Gov of a far away state with a population equal to that of Ft. Worth, TX primarily sitting on ice and so geographically different than the other 49, no foreign experience, no national experience, no knowledge of the constitution, no idea what the VP does… the citizens joined the media in an immediate hunt for anything that could, in the future, jeopardize the VP and Presidential SEAT. Listen to all her recorded discussions and she sounds like a tour guide. That won’t go well in the MIDDLE EAST and RUSSIA.
The Who’s Your Real Momma drama was not started by the democrats. They were picked up from multiple local written gossip articles on the woman which includes unethical firings for personal and political reasons and rightfully should be investigated. Yes there is a 2nd charge at this moment. That alone is a warning to what someone having the power and authority as VP might do in the name of Moral Majority Leadership.
In addition the Republicans need to stop using her baby in photo opts as if telling the public, “Look we keep our DS babies” Well let me tell you something, there are hundreds of thousands of women who are Democrats, Atheists, Agnostics or none of the above who not only keep their DS babies but those who are born deformed. To imply that keeping a downs syndrome baby is a REPUBLICAN ONLY DECISION is nothing more the BS.
This lady needs to prove to the world is is fit to take a seat at the White House and any call or excuse to give her a pass for the debates is not only insulting to hard working educated women across American, but completely opposite of what the Republican administration is trying to promote in the MIDDLE EAST…. Equal Rights for Women.
Let the debates begin.

Great posts, Jo. The mainstream media digs up a 20 year old dui within a few days of the Republican VP selection but they can’t manage to come up with anything on the radical America-hating pastor of the church Obama complacently sat in for over 20 years? Give me a break! Hillary would have won the nomination HANDS DOWN if the press had done its job.

this is a non issue
I think the fact that she doesn’t know a single stitch of anything regarding the world and foreign policy may be a little bigger of a problem
again with one quick choice…his first Presidential “choice”…. McCain has shown he puts his own election in front of the welfare of the nation.
does she know who has Nukes and who doesn’t…
does she know the historical and constitutional effects of Presidential signing statements.
does she know the details that keep separation of powers…
does she know what language they speak in georgia…or where Georgia or Tajikistan is?
Doe sshe know how to deal with the Pakistan India issue…does she even have an idea that there is an issue?
Does she know the history of NATO and who is in it.
Does she know the forecasts of trade agreements with China and India.
since she does not believe in man made global warming does she know how she would negotiate with China and India?
does she know how the Cuban missile crisis was settled…
does she know who the mujahadin is?
does she know what Reagan’s contra scandal was about?
does she know why it was wrong?
I mean I could type for days…
and Biden and obama could answer all of these at minimum with naming parties involved…
she seems to have a tough time keeping track of her children and what they are doing.
and yes…if a Male VP candidate’s 1st child of age got pregnant at 17…
I would say that was a red flag.

have you all heard the interview with the DJ from a couple of months ago where he trashes the woman in Alaska with Palin on the phone…
and she laughs… she doesn’t tell the jerk …it’s not cool…
or say it’s out of line to say the woman is a bad mother (she laughs…so all I can say is what goes around comes around)
the DJ calls the woman a B!tch and Palin laughs as he derides the woman for being overweight and she laughs some more.
sad…. sad sad sad.
this woman should have never gotten near any selection process.

If Barack Obama had shown the incredible bad judgement John McCain has shown in choosing a running mate like this it would be on the news 24-7 on Fox and you can bet everyone else would be piling on as well.
I don’t care what her husband was doing 20 years ago. I don’t care what ANY of these people were doing 20 years ago but this woman doesn’t have enough experience to be governor of any place BUT Alaska. McCain is pandering. He thinks he is pandering to women by chosing a woman – and a great MOM.
Well I’m a mom and if I had a newborn special needs infant at home and a seventeen year old pregnant daughter I would not be taking a job that exposes them like this and makes this kind of demands on my time.
Obama is right. Its about judgement. McCain has none.

________________________
My guess is you have never worked as a broadcaster or journalist. I have.
This is an incredibly naive assertion but given the “if and when McCain croaks” zinger, completely understandable.
Here’s how it works: as soon as a man or woman declares their candidacy, legions of investigators are cut loose to find “smoking guns”, “skeletons in the closet”, or whatever name you want to give scandal.
At some level nine out of 10 journalists want to become the next Woodruff or Bernstein and just about every editor is waiting for the next opportunity to become Ben Bradlee.
If you think this story was part of “vetting’ you’re either incredibly uninformed or working too hard
to sanitize the viciousness that has infected the mass media.

What have you been smoking? You are talking about judgment and Senator Obama? It was BO’s judgment to direct public funds to Rezko and others for public housing projects. The programs failed, the tenants still live in squalor, and Obama still accepted the donations from these men.
It was Obama’s judgment to accept money from bundlers representing lobbyists, law firms, the financial industry, and others. Then, he lied on national TV and stated he doesn’t accept lobbyist money. Michelle’s brother is a bundler for him.
It was his judgment to state at the SC debate that Ayers was a guy in the neighborhood. Ayers and Obama sat on charitable boards together.
You have the nerve to talk about Palin running for office because of her family.

The person who throws people under the bus is Obama. McCain knew of the pregnancy beforehand as well as this 22 yr old DWI. I’ve counted about 40 people under Obama’s bus so far including his “chickens coming home to roost” mentor. You’re a fool.

As for Palins daughter it was a COVER UP.
They had Bristol come out on stage Friday using a huge blanket, and a baby of course, to hide her tummy.
Watch the tape from Friday and see for yourself.

Trish,
I can’t wait until Palin gives her acceptance speech this week at the RNC convention…
I wonder if she will give the same tired “hockey mom” speech with the Bridge to Nowhere LIE for the 3rd or 4th time!!!
She really is a lightweight and it seems just a “pretty little one trick pony…”
How sad for the Republicans and what a poor choice McCain made!!

I never thought that I would see a VP pick worse than Stockdale….but now I have.

Posted by: NubTail | September 1, 2008, 4:58 pm 4:58 pm

In her nationally televised speech accepting the job as John McCain’s running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said she “championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress” and opposed federal funding for a controversial bridge to a sparsely populated island.
“I told Congress, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,’ on that bridge to nowhere,” Palin said Friday in Ohio, using the critics’ dismissive name of the project. “‘If our state wanted a bridge,’ I said, ‘we’d build it ourselves.’”
While running for governor in 2006, though, Palin backed federal funding for the infamous bridge, which McCain helped make it a symbol of pork barrel excess.
And as mayor of the small town of Wasilla from 1996 to 2002, Palin also hired a Washington lobbying firm that helped secure $8 million in congressionally directed spending projects, known as earmarks, according to public spending records compiled by the watchdog group Citizens Against Government Waste and lobbying documents.

I guess you’re running scared now that your Bozo the clown no experienced candidate with a shady past is not going to win in what certainly would be the Dem’s year. HAHAHA. Oh, but yes, it’s a character issue. Why, if she is so committed to law and order, did she marry a man with a criminal conviction? This wasn’t even a case where she made a mistake herself…she consciously stayed with a guy who got drunk and got behind the wheel rather than voting with her feet. Forgiveness? From a party that espouses deep believe in personal responsibility, I don’t think forgiveness is in order. Her character and leadership traits are now extremely suspect. Sorry, folks, them’s th’ breaks. She’s not fit for the job.
McCain made a grievous mistake. I was leaning towards Obama, but still reserved the right to change my mind depending on the outcome of the debates and the other goings-on of the next three months. Now my mind is made up. McCain’s judgment is clearly questionable, and I won’t be voting for him, with or without Palin on the ticket.

Nub, She has money pouring into McCain’s (and hers) campaign now. Why on earth would any woman with common decency remove herself from the ticket when PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING TO VOTE REPUBLICAN are so happy?…because Kitty…she’s unqualified to be POSTUS. The Christian Taliban wackos will vote for ANYONE who is prolife…no matter how unqualified they are. Where McCain loses is with Independants like me and HRC supporters. He has lost the Jewish vote over this because she has supported Pat Buchanan, one of politics biggest anti Semites. McCain has made a collosul blunder here. He cant win with just the votes of the super rich and bible wackos.

Here in Alaska, we sometimes call ourselves The Biggest Small Town on Earth. (That $40Billion savings account we have helps lighten the load of Outside ridicule, as seen above.) So, the last time (some months back) I talked to Todd, I asked if if he would get to pick out the new curtains at the Naval Observatory, or if that would be Vice President Palin’s job. (Picked that one, didn’t I?) He laughed then, and he’ll laugh again in January if partisan Democrats keep picking on a family which epitomizes the portrait of the Jeffersonian yeomanry carving out a homestead in a Jacksonian frontier….

Davis-
You should be running scared. I guess you don’t know anything about your candidate.
Bill Ayers- terrorist
Jeremiah Wright – racist, anti-American preacher
Father Pfleger- sexist, anti-American priest
Louis Farrakan- racist, anti-semite, anti-American
All well known friends of Barack Hussein Obama who wants to be President of the very country his friends hate. Interesting.
Obama born out of wedlock to a teenager having an affair with a married Kenyan man. Obama did crack, cocaine, booze in his younger years. Obama has yet to prove he doesn’t have dual citizenship in the US and Indonesia after he was adopted and changed his name to Barry Soretero. You want to start some scandal? That’s just the tip of the iceberg for Bozo. The GOP has yet to reveal what they have on this terrorist friendly candidate.

Yes, that McCaim really knows how to pick them. Why didn’t he pick a hairplug guy 75 years old who has been floating around Washington for 35 years. Biden is too old to drive.
DUI? What is that? Is that like a Kennedy who is picked up drunk at 2AM and says he is on his way to a vote?
The reason the daughter’s pregnancy pizzes off liberals is because it debunks their sadistic claim that Palin was never pregnant.

It is not about the DUI and the teen pregnancy charge. It is about John McCain and his reckless campaign who did not vet Sarah Palin. They have now sent lawyers to Alaska to look into some of these allegations such as the Ethics probe for getting her brother-in-law fired! McCain again has shown that he does not have the judgement to Lead. For those who call yourselves conservative/republican, please stop attacking Obama, this man is very decent and have publicly call for his supporters to back off Sarah Palin and her family. The real issue is that Sarah Palin was a reckless pick and no matter how much money she is bringing into the McCain campaign, it is not about the money it is about judgement and putting the country first. McCain failed on these 2 counts.

Bill & Barack’s Excellent Adventure
By Thomas Lifson
William Ayers, unrepentant terrorist and education professor, is once again being tied to Barack Obama in the public mind. Controversy builds over the withholding of the archives of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, an expensive failed school reform effort headed by Obama and effectively run by Ayers, held by the library of the University of Illinois Chicago. Researchers who have gained access to a few documents recording the history of the project have found strong evidence of a very important working relationship between the two men on the project, Obama’s sole claim to executive experience.
Oddly enough, even though the project produced no measurable improvement in student performance according to its own final report, educators and administrators — participants and grantees of the CAC — were reported by outside monitors to be often “ebullient” about the activities. For insiders, it was an excellent adventure. For the pupils stuck in the failing public schools of Chicago, an ongoing, unrelieved disaster.
Obama and his campaign long have gone out of their way to downplay, in fact distort, the long and evidently deep relationship between Ayers and Obama. In the Philadelphia Democratic debate last April, George Stephanopoulos asked Obama about his relationship with Ayers, and the candidate responded:
“This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who’s a professor of English in Chicago, who I know and who I have not received some official endorsement from. He’s not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis.
“And the notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago when I was 8 years old, somehow reflects on me and my values, doesn’t make much sense, George. [....]
“So this kind of game, in which anybody who I know, regardless of how flimsy the relationship is, is somehow — somehow their ideas could be attributed to me — I think the American people are smarter than that. They’re not going to suggest somehow that that is reflective of my views, because it obviously isn’t.”
Almost two months earlier, the “neighbor” talking point campaign manager David Axelrod introduced the notion that Obama and Ayers were mostly just neighbors, telling The Politico’s Ben Smith,
“Bill Ayers lives in his neighborhood. Their kids attend the same school,” he said. “They’re certainly friendly, they know each other, as anyone whose kids go to school together.”
Ayers and his wife are in their sixties, while the Obamas are in their mid-forties. Ayers’ children are all adults, while Obama’s children are currently 10 and 7. Axelrod’s prevarication is telling, bespeaking confidence that nobody in the media will bother to dispute an obvious falsehood.
“Flimsy” turns out to be a completely misleading word when it comes to characterizing the Obama-Ayers relationship.
Notwithstanding the campaign’s efforts to direct attention away from Ayers, a 527 group, American Issues Project, has just released the following ad tying Obama to Ayers, and says it is spending 2.8 million on television airtime in key states.
Despite the legally questionable embargo of the CAC archives, most of its tax returns and official evaluations of the CAC have already been made public. In the hands of intrepid bloggers such as Steve Diamond, Tom Maguire and Dan Riehl, there is already proof of Obama’s extensive involvement with Ayers over the course of his chairmanship, and an emerging picture of Obama’s indecisiveness and absence when serious problems needed leadership.
Barack Obama joined the CAC shortly after William Ayers and Anne C. Hallett received news that their letter of November 8, 1994 submitting a grant proposal to The Annenberg Challenge had been approved. They were to get as much as $49 million from Annenberg, plus tens of millions more dollars from other foundations. Obama’s involvement predates by months the actual incorporation of the CAC and his appointment as founding chairman of the board. He came on board almost as soon as the proposal was approved.
How on earth did a relatively unknown associate at a politically-connected but small Chicago law firm come to be entrusted with the heady task of handing out tens of millions of dollars of other people’s money?
Keep in mind that Obama was at this point in his career very undistinguished considering his pedigree. It would be a kind understatement to say he had underperformed his academic resume. Three years out of Harvard Law and the Law Review Presidency, here is a short list of some of the things Obama had not done:
Clerked for a US Supreme Court Justice (or any Federal Judge);
worked in an important legal position at any level of serious responsibility;
written a law review article or note or published anything of legal substance.
As of 1995 Obama may have had the most professionally empty resume of any President of the Harvard Law Review three years gone from “The Law School.”
And yet Ayers gave him a gig that would enable him to hand out large amounts of money to many people in Chicago, who could be expected to be grateful, once Obama ran for office — as he was to do later that very year, in an event held at the home of Ayers and Dohrn.
Quite clearly, Obama was already well-enough known and trusted by Ayers to be offered the sensitive, prestigious and highly visible post of chairman of this important new undertaking. So we must ask, when did Obama and Ayers actually first get to know one another? And how did they come to trust one another?
One possible connection between Ayers and Obama was Sidley Austin, the prestigious Chicago law firm where Obama had a summer job after his first year at Harvard Law School, and where he met his future wife Michelle, assigned to him as a mentor. Also working at Sidley Austin was Bernadine Dohrn, wife of William Ayers, and a fellow Weather Underground terrorist. Given the shared “progressive” politics of the three, they probably knew one another and associated together at a firm known as a white shoe corporate practice.
Or Obama might have met Ayers even earlier, during his stint as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago, in fact. Ayers was a well-known and very active figure in left wing Chicago politics, and might have encountered the young, articulate, Ivy League educated rookie black radical Obama, working in a Saul Alinksy spinoff.
We soon will know much more about the period of collaboration between Obama and Ayers following the start of the CAC. Even if the archives continue to be withheld from public scrutiny, the cat is out of the bag with the documents available to all. The formidable analytical engine of bloggers trading insights and new data is warming up.
But the period prior to 1995, the time when Bill and Barack, the terrorist and the presidential aspirant, got to know one another and build the relationship of trust, is one excellent adventure likely to remain obscure.

I would prefer to hear more about her last child. I have a feeling that we will find out that she only has four kids and this is her daughter’s second pregnancy!
OMG, do the math fool, the baby is 3 months old, Bristol is 5 months preggers.

So, 22 years ago the husband of the VP got a DWI? I guess if his last name was Kennedy and a girl died in the car it wouldn’t be news, right?

The GOP may have judo’d themselves. There weren’t even rumblings from the Dem side that they were going to make an issue about the DUI and even the teenage pregnancy was nothing more than a wacky internet rumor until the CAMPAIGN released this stuff in a holiday news dump. What twisty little minds these folks have in making assumptions for what would be fair play in the election

The revelations keep coming. Those of us who have watched Sarah the past twelve years know that she is great as a small time administrator but isn’t quite up to the standards of leading the free world. Check out http://www.alaskanobserver.com for more info.

I can’t believe that the left wingers are talking about Palin’s daughter’s pregnancy but fail to mention that Biden’s daughter was a coke addict and has already been to rehab.

I always thought this pick was beyond stupid, and my point is continuously being proved…But this DUI thing is nonsense, this isnt a big deal at all…Especially considering that it was 20 years ago…Come on

The Palins are an obvious dysfunctional family. Great Veep family. McCain’s family is also dysfunctional, so there you go! A good match

Posted by: mike | September 2, 2008, 7:36 am 7:36 am

Where is the compassion of a mother for a child or is Palin’s acceptance of the VP nomination a display of her “all about me” syndrome? If I had a young teenage daughter facing many adult decisions, I believe I would have declined in the interest of my child. Also, while she boasts about not accepting funding for a bridge to nowhere, she has accepted federal earmarks for Wasila, and she appears to be a member of the “good old boys” which she publicly detests. The GOP has nothing to take pride in in this ticket, a madman and a Barbie doll! Who needs it. Oh, one more thing, they have taken away the rights of a Republican congressman by not allowing Ron Paul access on the floor of the convention. What are they worried about? It is all about control. The DNC showed true Americanism by presenting a wide variety of ethnicity with all Americans standing hand in hand and side by side as we face the trials and tribulations of the future. Obama deserves a chance!

Obammabots are right. Sarah Palin has no business being elected if she can’t control her family and keep them out of trouble.
Is that kinda like Hitlery? She couldn’t control her husband from shacking up with a young girl 30 years his junior, and right under Hitlery’s nose.
Did anyone “vet” Hitlery before she was allowed to run?

sounds like McCain picked his veep right out of the Clampetts. this shows an incredible lack of judgment on his part. McCain, in effect, says out of ALL the potential running mates, Elly May Palin, was the best name he could come up with. oh boy — -what was he thinkin? what about that dopey senator from Texas, Kay Bailey Hutchinson — who is brain dead from all that hairspray??? conservatives could have at least said she was qualified with a straight face. or Olympia Snowe? or Paris Hilton herself.

People here are all a joke…don’t you get it? This is what being Alaska is all about. Snagging fish, shooting up road signs, underage drinking, sex…unwanted pregnancies, rape (Alaska is 2.2 times higher than other states), drugs (weed is legal), spousal abuse (from doing all the drinking, and sign shooting)…come one, I’m from Wasilla and this is just your average Wasilla family.

look up the word liberal. jfk was a liberal. it means we’re not selfish, hateful, judgmental, stupid, war mongers. we actually want a better, more prosperous and safe country. iraq did not hit the trade center. we entered into an illegal occupation. our economy is in shambles. we are headed for an ice burg and you yahoos still chant the hate speech. you’re just angry because you are going to lose big time.

Obama told you this in his book he was up front…Now to Tod Palins DUI when he was 22 and Has no run in with the Law…I agree it’s just better to get all this crap out front but I’m sure the problem is McCain just didn’t do the vetting. His selection of Gov.Palin was for the far-right of the base and attempt to try and get Clinton women voter.

Here is an interesting fact the db media is not reporting on at all:
John McCain only served 20 hours of combat before getting caught.
20 HOURS, for which he go 28 medals.
I think the American people deserve to know exactly what is in his military records.

Posted by: S. Bubba | September 2, 2008, 10:42 am 10:42 am

I agree that her husband’s drunkenness 20+ years ago doesn’t reflect her abilities today. However, I have a few questions for those who point out Barack Obama’s admitted drug use as a disqualification for the Presidency:
1. Did you vote for George W. Bush after learning about his alcoholism and cocaine use?
2. Did you vote for George W. Bush a second time after observing for 4 years that his alcoholism has evidently rendered him retarded?
3. Are you forgive and forget Christian’s who think that people deserve a chance at redemption?
Aside from Troopergate, AIP secessionists, and inexperience, there’s another critical issue more indicative of Palin’s poor judgement. What kind of mother with a pregnant high school teenager and a 6 month old baby with Down Syndrome runs for the demanding job of Vice President, or President once John McCain’s face falls off?
Granted, she doesn’t really know what the VP actually does, so perhaps she doesn’t know what she’s getting herself into. Perhaps she also doesn’t wholly realize the difficulties of raising a child with Down Syndrome. The priority for any mother and father is the welfare of their children. The family values crowd is quick to point out that children are best cared for by a mother and a father. It seems that the job of VP would largely remove Sarah Palin from the parenting equation for at least 4 years. This shows remarkable selfishness and poor judgment from Palin.
Family First, Sarah. Not Alaska First or Country First.

If you haven’t seen the word “liberal” linked to Biden’s name you haven’t been paying attention. Do a Google search for “liberal Biden” (in quotes) Voila! Lots of hits: liberalBiden, uber-liberal Biden etc. If you don’t know what you’re talking about, don’t talk.

Posted by: Gary | September 2, 2008, 11:34 am 11:34 am

So much for the Republican family values! Mom Palin is a nervous wreck, unable to manage and handle her family, under investigation for vindictive abuse of power, a former and current self-professed hocky-mom, who transported hockey team members to and from games, not knowing her daughter was doing a hockey player in the back seat; Dad is a former drunk and alcohol abuser, ready to go back into it at any time, all the while Mom was teaching creationism in the school against Republican ideals. Last night on Larry King it was determined that this was an unwanted pregnancy til Mom Palin was running for VP. Talk about Hillary having baggage, boy, this family has a sewer full of stuff. Couple that with an old wrinkly man, skin cancer 3x, and ready to kick the bucket, who can barely make a decision that is sound. Kick her off the ticket, and get someone more worthy. Don’t disgrace American with a sub-Quale again.

His people didn’t do their homework. Thinking women don’t fall for such ploys. We are talking here about someone who is one heartbeat away from the presidency….hope the GOP factored McCain’s choice of a VP selection into the price of an election.

The Democrats/Obamadrones worshiped Ted Kennedy who drove drunk and killed a young woman and then ran away and tried to cover it up. For that he was honored by the Obama nutjobs.
Algore’s son was arrested for speeding dangerously and possession of drugs.
The list goes on and own with the Democrats own dirty laundry.
Well since the Obama Campaign seem to feel that attacking millions of American families who are dealing with exact the same private matter is in keeping with the principals of the Democrat Party, then its time to bring up Obama’s rampant Bisexuality and hard drug use.
Look up Larry Sinclair and also look into why 3 gay members of Obama’s church were suddenly murdered in a short span of time when Barrack was preparing to run.
Where there is smoke there is fire involving Obama and everyone knows it.

I’m a Dem. I think there are much bigger problems with Palin than her husbands DUI over 20 years ago, but welcome to the limelight of politics where you have no privacy what so ever anymore. I’ve known a few people in my life that have gotten DUI’s, these people were not alcholics or crazy wasted when they got pulled over, this happens to more people than most of you know, you can thank Lobbying MADD for that who would give anyone a DUI for taking a sip of a beer and getting behind the wheel if they could.
Again, I’m a Dem, and this is a stretch, wheter it happended 22 years ago, or 2 years ago…

Yes, it is not a big deal and I agree. However, I am appalled by the responses of people here. Why do we have to be like this? McCain once told a nasty joke about Clinton’s daughter and later apologized. Where were all these self righteous people then?

Posted by: Rambo | September 2, 2008, 1:09 pm 1:09 pm

And why is this a story?
Has ABC done anything comparable in terms of investigating Rezko and his sponsorship of Barack Hussein Obama? Let’s be clear – Rezko, a convicted felon for bribing government officials, was Obama’s largest contributor, bought him a house, and received support for “low income housing projects” that profited both Obama and Rezko.
But that would require ABC to actually look at public policy, public documents, and question Obama’s integrity!
Wake up! This smear attack is how the mass media lost its respect across the country, gets labeled – sometimes unfairly – as the lying liberal media, and represents the lowest form of political discourse.
Please, let’s return to public policy debates – or have at least have an investigation of public policy related scandals instead of personal attacks on the family of a candidate… for something done long past the statue of limitations – and a non-felony!!!!

Posted by: Eric | September 2, 2008, 1:19 pm 1:19 pm

Yes, cause if you are going to dis Obama’s drug usage decades ago, and Todd’s dui decades ago, then I am assuming Cindy McCain’s stealing drugs, abusing drugs and prescription fraud is off the table too.
All the repubs have to do is try to use the drug use against Obama and I say bring Cindy’s theft/fraud and usage against her…all while she was adopting children filing goverment papers saying she was clean!
The doctor who wrote some of the Rx for her and then she filled in a staffers name was fired and his credentials ripped…
And Cindy just walked away, vicodin in hand…
So, I think “Don’t Go There” applies.

I think Palin is an “empty pantsuit” to coin a former reference to Bush.
When asked if this was the BEST THE REPUBLICANS could pick, no one answered the question. They said, “well this is the pick”.
What happened to REAL Republican women like Snowe or Hutchenson???????
Why Palin? She is a damn joke….

Democrats don’t march around passing judgment on everyone as Republicans do. Republicans are always bashing everyone. Why is it that when one of their own gets into trouble it’s off limits? They can’t live by their own standards. Ted Kennedy never claimed to be perfect–he is intelligent, compassionate and thoughtful. The Palin’s are already standing around bragging about how righteous they are. THAT is the difference.

Hmmm….ABC and the MSM are really worked up about Todd Palin having a DUI from twenty plus years ago. Where is the similar outrage about Sen Biden’s daughter Ashley getting arrested in Chicago in August of 2002 for obstructing a police officer after her and her drunken friends hit a police officer with an empty beer bottle? I don’t see anything about that on ABC news.

I am by no means a Repuke, but I really seriously hate the neo-prohibitionist viewpoint the country is heading in.
This DUI crusade just keeps getting worse and worse- having a DUI would, as many would have it, ban you (or your family, it seems) from public service, cost you thousands of dollars in penalties and court costs, and many states have even toyed with the idea of seizing your private property.
Heck, why don’t the neo-prohibitionists just go all-out, and when someone gets a DUI it means the state comes, burns your house down, and kills all your friends and family. And any pets, too. May as well throw in the neighbors just in case, cuz you can’t be too careful.
So obviously… the fact that Palin’s husband had a DUI twenty years ago… that seems to be a pretty petty issue. I’m sitting here thinking there is just SO much wrong with both of them, people pick THIS to criticize? Really? Seriously?

What about the rumors that John McCain performed oral sex on his captures in Vietnam? Maybe Obama and McCain can get together for a special treaty.

Posted by: Marine Cpl Con | September 2, 2008, 2:13 pm 2:13 pm

More to the point, if McCain can’t last another 4 years and this woman becomes president, do we really want the country run by somebody who hasn’t even lived outside the state of Alaska, never had a passport until recently, and has no idea of different State laws let alone foreign policy?? She’s incompetent for the job, period. The woman is a redneck with no cultural experience whatsoever.

I have always been tired of the GOP using Religion and God to sway voters….it should simply be about the critical issues and the best leaders to build concensus and implement necessary change to help ALL Americans, not just the faithful. I thought it was hypocritical that Gov. Palin had her poor 17year old daughter holding the 4-month baby with a blanket covering her belly…if she was sooo proud, why were they hiding this? This is so obviously a tactic and it insults educated women like me who can see right thru this risky move. I wonder how the GOP and the media would react if it was a political family that happeed to be Hispanic or black? Would we see it as simply a “common mistake”?! or, would we call it another example of the lack of American values and a baby out of wedlock?!? and the DUI, it’s not relevant, but same idea.
Clearly there is a double standard and hypocrisy…Again, it should be about the best candidates and focus on issues.

Oh my lord!!! Obama the most liberal senator that is FUNNY because in 2004 guess who was the most liberal senator and still in the senate?
John Kerry.
Country first says McCain! You’re running mate wanted to secede from the union.
You wife said we take off our republican hats and put on our american hats?
aren’t we all americans? democrat, independent, republican?

The story is an absolute nothing and I see a lot of blame aimed at Democrats but the truth of this is that when people click on a story (online) they are essentially giving the media outlet (ABC News) in this instance an approval of the story. So, should you decide that we are all responsible for ourselves as all good Republicans believe then its mandatory that you no longer click on these stories. Right?

So lets just a few of these FACTS straight:
-Palins under age daughter is having a baby.
-Palins husband got arrested for DUI.
-Palin is under current investigation in Alaska for misuse of power to have her brother fired.
-McCain committed adultery for over a year during his 1st marriage with a girl in her young 20s, then asked his wife of 15 years for a divorce so he could marry this young girl.
-McCain was cited for using “Poor Judgement” in the Keating 5 Trial.
-McCain is known to be temperamental, has a anger problem.
-Cindy McCain is a recovering prescription drug abuser, stealing drugs from her own child charity.
These talking points need to be discussed. If Obama, Biden or their families had any of these issues, it would be all over Fox and AM Radio.
Don’t you deserve better and leaders with good family and moral values.

The bottom line is it’s brains that count. W. imbibed in his 20′s and science tells us alcohol kills brain cells so whether it was genetic or organic there were not enough cells to rub together. McCain finished 3rd from the bottom of his class and on top of that was not adept at flying an aircraft. Between Barrack and Biden there is an overabundance of brain cells and experience. A stellar package.

I beleive that most good people I know have had one or more bad experiences in their lives, although DUI may not be one of them. As for independence, My family ansestry in Texas goes back to 1883. About every 5 years there’s some political figure wanting to have Texas succeed from the union. ain’t happened (yet)!

Wasn’t Todd Palin arrested about the same time Obama was battling the tough decision of whether or not he should “entusiastically” continue using cocaine or switch to heroin or was that a few years earlier?

After reading all the comments thus far, I believe the real issue here is that we need new blood in the White House and a President who set things right domestically and Internationally.
As for the Palin situation, in my fair opinion, she was not the right choice. The reason, there is something mistrustful about her daughter’s situation and baby trig.
She is in no way in comparison to Hilary Clinton, Condeleeza Rice or Michelle Obama. She should have been wise enough not to accept this invitation to run as vice president.
She does not reflect that charisma of “American Quality” as do the above ladies.
Also, parenting is a full-time job.
Who in their right mind as a mother of someone so young as Trig (who has DS)would want to take on a daunting position as vice president of the USA.
Bristol’s situation says it all, you can’t have everything. Ambition has caused many to fall. I believe this will be the case for Palin if she continues to run for VP.
Let America choose a president fit for the job regardless of sex, race, religion, etc…..
signed,
An American who loves our country

Debra You sound like a racist. You can bare the thought of having a black man running to country. Look at yourself in the mirror. What would God say looking back at you. Racist

i’de like to see Todd Palin in a thong racing down my street, stop the mud slinging and move on, they all have dirt, but 22 years ago, come on>>

Posted by: flamingred | September 4, 2008, 2:30 pm 2:30 pm

Ok, I read half of these comments before getting disgusted. Why can’t we discuss real issues?
I agree, Todd Palin’s DUI does not matter. Sara Palin’s prego daughter doesn’t matter. Obama *agrees* kids should be left out, and most of his supporters agree, I am one of them. Guess republicans forget about how they trashed Chelsea Clinton when she was a child and her father was president. And when I say child, she was 12 years old when they moved into the White House, and the right wing crazies completely tore her apart. What a great thing to do to a child! At least for Bristol Palin she is old enough to shrug off, more easily, the attacks from those who are butting in to her business.
Why is it that so many of you want to bash Obama and his drug use from when he was a TEENAGER, yet you seem to forget that BUSH, was a drunk, until the age of 30, and also used cocaine, but has *never* been open and honest about it.
My point is, there are problems with all the candidates. They *all* have skeletons in their closets. What they did 20 years ago is a non issue. We should be focused on how they will help our country regarding with health care, women’s rights, the economy etc.
I want Obama to win this election, as his views are more in line with my own. However, I am happy that no matter who wins, there will at least be a *competent* person running the country, unlike the complete idiot that has been in the White House for the past 8 years.
Obama/Biden!

Ok, Todd’s DUI over 20 years ago, before they were married isn’t a big deal to me. YAWN. It’s wrong, but no one was hurt, and presumably he has learned.
What does bother me is the whole teen pregnancy, family photo op thing. Obama says family and espcially children are off-limits. For the most part, I agree with this. What makes me angry though is how she has chosen to announce and make very public her unwed daughter’s pregnancy and decision to bear and keep the child.
It’s as though she is holding her up to the spotlight as a paragon of “christian values”. Gosh, I thought living by “christian values” included no premarital sex? When you deliberately put your daughter directly in the spotlight like that, and talk about what a blessing it is, effectively using her pregnancy to promote your own political stance and views on abortion, you lose the “family is off limits” shield.
That being said, I don’t support publicly trashing the daughter. We don’t know if birth control failed, or if they just weren’t using any. Either way this is probably a very trying and scary time for the daughter, and to have your own mom put your front and center in the spotlight of a nantional campaign can’t feel good. She then dragged teh boyfriend to MN to addhim into the photo op. Same kid who has on his myspsace page that he doesn’t want kids. I feel for the poor guy. I feel more for the daughter. I wouldn’t be surprised if she felt used and betrayed.
When you add a teen pregnancy and a newborn with Down’s Syndrome into a house it’s going to be chaotic. Can Sarah Palin and her family really handle the added pressure of a 12-15 hour a day job? Special needs children require a lot of time and care. Is Todd Palin going to step up to the job while his wife is campaigning? What happens if his wife is elected? I know that even asking seems sexist, but every other candidate and spouse team either has grown children or the spouse has left the day job to make sure the family is ok while the other spouse is working like a dog. Would Todd Palin step up? This isn’t Alaska, where they can rely on friends and family to help. This will be DC, and there are secret service issues and security to deal with.

here’s a guy who supports his wife 100%, is a doting father, and has real interests of his own. i guess none of that matters. After all, he had a DUI two decades ago.
Congratulations on the big scoop!!

I’ll vote for mccain/palin because of Todd’s DUI. In Alaska you have to have a DUI within 10 years of obtaining your DL to show that you are truly Alaskan. No wonder the socialist are up in arms. Palin and her husband are real people who represent 70% of America. These are the people you will find in the “Fly Over” States. You would know that if you ever left the island or the loony left coast. Prepare for 4 more years of Republican control of the white house democralist.

It’s a bit reaching for bad news when you have to dig up old news 2 decades ago in regards to Palin.

Wow this is big Headline stuff What a scandal!
Glad to see the Palins are almost normal
And attack nonsense like this only helps build up the devoted band of Palin supporters.
Keep it up we’ll need 70 million supporters in 2012!
