Unanswered Question Watch, Day 9: Are McCain-Palin Endorsing Sen. Ted Stevens’ Re-election?

It’s really not an unfair question at all, no matter how much Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin don’t want to answer it.

Do these self-styled reformers support the indicted King of Pork for re-election?

Do they value reform over partisanship?

And yet…

Unanswered question watch day 10: Why did Obama try and delay bringing home the troops?

Posted by: Steve | September 18, 2008, 7:31 am 7:31 am

I heard Don Young has also won his primary (there probably will be a recount because he only won with 304 votes or something like that)
Would be interesting to know who they/she will support: Don Young or Ethan Berkowitz …

Um, yeah, but I’m more insulted by the railroad she helped get built from Wasilla to Stevens’s little vacation hamlet.
Troop delay? How ’bout some other made up story by Taheri. Obama’s already answered this little floater. The desperation of the right wingers, that’s insulting.

Why did Obama try and delay bringing home the troops?
===
why did Bush/McCain insist on attacking a country that had nothing to do with 9/11?
Ms. Palin is still using the Iraq/9/11 rhetoric in her speeches. Why is that?
How many days has it been since Bush declared “mission accomplished” ???
Why does McCain insist that the surge worked, when in fact it did not?
Violence reduced yes, but no political settlement. If the surge did work, and if things are so hunky dory, then why does McCain insist on keeping the troops in Iraq for years? Why is Bush delaying the departure of troops from Iraq?
Most of all, why is our economy tanking? And finally, today, which McCain will we hear: the McCain for deregulation or the McCain for controls on Wall Street?

Posted by: Gus | September 18, 2008, 7:49 am 7:49 am

let’s talk about obama, the chicago pol who supported the corrupt democratic admin that was just convicted.
also, did obama support the La congressman with 10 thousand in the freezer?
Why did Obama sue everyone off the ballot in Chicago— every single opponent?
Did the obama campaign link the seal records of his opponent?

It’s a fair question, even being a McCain-Palin supporter. But is it the most important questions of the day(s)? Perhaps not.

Posted by: Captain America | September 18, 2008, 7:53 am 7:53 am

If McCain-Palin were the “original mavericks” reformers they portray themselves as, this wouldn’t even be a question. They should be denouncing Stevens on the trail, not dodging Q’s about an endorsement.

Maureen Dowd’s latest piece on Palin and Palin’s world is the best I’ve seen so far. It’s terrific, and horrifying.
Check the NYT online for that one.
And I o so totally agree with R. D. Levno, a retired school principal quoted by Dowd:
“She’s a child, inexperienced and simplistic,” she said of Sarah. “It’s taking us back to junior high school. She’s one of the popular girls, but one of the mean girls. She is seductive, but she is invented.”
She is seductive, but she is invented.
There you are.

To those who suggest that this isn’t an important question, or that there are other, more pressing matters:
Are you insinuating that the McCain campaign can only handle one question/topic/crisis at a time?
???

By now, each new revelation just gets me giggling (as in “Yep, there’s another one…”) Thanks for the morning brightener, Jake!
P.S. Do I feel insulted? No. Why? Because I honestly feel some compassion for these two people (esp. McCain). Their world is slowly disintegrating right before their very eyes…and they didn’t see it coming. Like trying to clutch at something…that’s no longer “clutch-able.” Kind of a tough place to be.
Take care of yourself, Jake.

Too bad she won’t answer questions about:

Troopergate.
But yup, she’ll answer your questions, anyplace, anytime! Because she is ready!

Jake, what about the McCain insulting one of our great allies, Spain, and its prime minister Zapatero?!
“Would you be willing to meet with the head of our government, Mr. Zapatero?” a Spanish journalist asked McCain, in an exchange now being reported by several Spanish outlets.
McCain proceeded to launch into what appeared to be a boilerplate declaration about Mexico and Latin America — but not Spain — pressing the need to stand up to world leaders who want to harm America.
“I will meet with those leaders who are our friends and who want to work with us cooperatively,” according to one translation. The reporter repeated the question two more times, apparently trying to clarify, but McCain referred again to Latin America.
Finally, the questioner said, “Okay, but I’m talking about Europe – the president of Spain, would you meet with him?” The Senator offered only a slight variance to his initial comment. “I will reunite with any leader that has the same principles and philosophy that we do: human rights, democracy, and liberty. And I will confront those that don’t [sic].”
The implication seemed clear: McCain was refusing to commit to meet with Zapatero, the “socialist” party leader, whose country is a member of NATO and intricately involved in many of America’s global financial and national security objectives.

Posted by: Joel | September 18, 2008, 8:35 am 8:35 am

herta below is right. McCain insulted the great country of Spain for no other reason than NOT KNOWING THAT ZAPATERO HAS BEEN THE PRIME MINISTER OF SPAIN for years now.

Steve…this question has been answered many times over on these blogs.
Obama wants our troops home, but we have to do this in the safest way possible. On thing abot Obama is he listens, unlike McCain and Bush.
When the experts tell him we need to so this methodically and with great caution, he understands. I want my boy home, but standing, not in a bodybag…

Unanswered Questions, God only knows how many days:
When in someone in the MSM at least going to INVESTIGATE whether or not Obama attempted to delay U.S. troops withdrawing from Iraq?
When is someone in the MSM going to start digging to see who is behind the hacking of Governor Palin’s persomal email? (or are you just going to let the FBI and Secret Service handle it)?
When is the MSM going to interview Illinois legislators who know that McCain’s sex education ad regarding Obama is, in fact, TRUE………..
When is the MSM going to investigate and report on Obama’s activities with Bill Ayers and the Annenberg Challenge, since everyone seems to believe that Palin’s activities from 10-15 years ago is fair game??
The list goes on and on, but the answer to at least ONE of these questions would be nice…………………

Jake, since Palin’s hacked Yahoo mail is in the news everywhere, and rightly so for it’s a scandal -
isn’t this the moment to ask her WHY she used a Yahoo e-mail account as a Governor of Alaska…?
Transparency of government is an issue in both campaigns, and I assume America would like to understand her use of two Yahoo accounts, not only for private messages but for political communication as well.
It confirms I think what Palin’s Alaskan political biography already shows us: Palin the power politician stands for the OPPOSITE of transparency in government.
Palin is secretive. Just think of her current non-dealings with the press that wishes to inform America about her stands on numerous issues and news topics.

Steve: “Why did Obama try and delay bringing home the troops.”
Yeah. Let’s change the topic with a silly smear that has already been debunked.
Before you make claims, it usually helps that you know what you are talking about. Learn the difference between the “Status of Force Agreement” (SOFA) and the “Strategic Framework Agreement” (SFA).
The neocon Iranian-born columnist Taheri tried with some lingoïstic mumbo jumbo to proof that delaying one agreement also means delaying another agreement. It was especially despickable that when these agreements were discussed in July, “bringing home the troops” was not even being discussed in both agreements.
As a commenter (metatron) on Taheri’s article rightfully writes:
“If, as Mr Taheri repeatedly stresses, the operational circumstances in which US forces in Iraq find themselves (the SOFA) are intimately tied to what they will be doing over coming months and years (the SFA), why would it make sense to bind those forces to a set of circumstances (the SOFA) which isn’t aligned with what they will be doing (the SFA)? It seems to me that anyone who is concerned about the lives of troops in Iraq would want those two agreements to be working together, rather than separately or worst of all against each other, to ensure the ongoing success of the Iraq mission (however that comes to be defined under a new Administration, whether Obama or McCain is President).”
Bush tried to bind the hands of a future Congress and a future Administration (either McCain or Obama) while bypassing the current Congress.
But I have no illusion that the McCainiacs will understand any of this. They don’t care about thoughtfull and responisible policies.
They don’t even care about the troops. For them, the troops are useful as political cannon fodder, to be used as a tool to bash opponents when they see an opportunity. It doesn’t matter to them they have to change their own position a full 180 degrees. They just don’t care.

one of them being how she “fought Stevens’ republican establishment” in Alaska.
so yeah since she and Mccain keep shouting it at everyone…along with her “telling them “no thanks” on the bridge after they told her no…
and her value to women as she says she “didn’t fire the guy for not firing her brother but because he was going to washington to ask for more money that she cut to fight against rape in the state with the highest cases of rape in the country…ugh)

RE: “Do you feel insulted?”
Where is your commentary regarding these tactics by Obama:
Barack Obama’s campaign to muzzle critical media.
Here’s how it works. A message goes out over Barack Obama’s Web site with the names, phone numbers and e-mails of editors and producers foolish enough to host Obama critics. With Mr. Obama’s extensive digital following, and his extensive fund-raising and contact lists, shutting up the Democratic nominee’s critics with a fraction of Mr. Obama’s millions of supporters is relatively simple. The digital legions plug phone lines, crash servers and intimidate the advertisers of these media outlets. This must be another instance of the “new” politics that Mr. Obama frequently talks about.

McCain has steered his own “Straight Talk Express” deep into the ditch. It will never come out again.
McCain’s lies have ranged from the annoying to the sleazy, and the problem is in both degree and kind. His campaign has been a ceaseless assault on Obama’s character and policies, featuring a consistent disdain for the truth.
Even after 38 million Americans heard Obama say in his speech at the Democratic National Convention that he was open to offshore oil-drilling and building new nuclear-power plants, McCain flatly said in his acceptance speech that Obama opposed both. This persistence in repeating demonstrably false charges is something new in presidential politics.
Worse than the lies have been the smears. McCain ran a television ad claiming that Obama favored “comprehensive” sex education for kindergartners. (Obama favored a bill that would have warned kindergartners about sexual predators and improper touching.)
The accusation that Obama was referring to Sarah Palin when he said McCain’s effort to remarket his economic policies was putting “lipstick on a pig” was another clearly misleading attack—an obnoxious attempt to divert attention from Palin’s lack of fitness for the job and the recklessness with which McCain chose her.
The McCain camp has decided that its candidate can’t win honorably, on the issues, so it has resorted to transparent and phony diversions.
He has already most this election by running a dishonorable campaign as a dishonorable politician.
How could be ever be an honorable President?
No way. No McCain.

Local news reported on the hundreds of protesters. I spoke with someone who was there observing. When the McCain supporters (that’s the only way you were able to get in to this so called “town hall meeting”) left the building, there were looks of shock on their faces. They couldn’t believe that conservative West Michigan had so many protesters. Aren’t we all supposed to love Sarah Palin over here?

John McCain and the Republican party have presented us with a nicely wrapped package and gave us a lovely fairy tale story about what was inside the package.
But they are fighting us tooth and nail tto prevent us from looking inside that package. Their only hope is if they can run out the clock until the election, before people figure out the kind of person Sarah Palin really is.
We are told she is tough enought to take on the big boys, and then we are told she is so weak that she is being victimized if people ask her questions.
They tell us she should be treated with ‘deference’ (you know the way you would treat a Pope or a Queen), which is confusing because she sure sounds like a Republicon Politician to me.

John McCain has sent top lawyers up and they are turning this from a fair investigation into total cover-up and avoidance to get a the real truth. Shocking as 100% of all legislators voted for investigation as evidence existed she fired police commissioner because he would not fire her brother inlaw.
Real sham!!! Please go research from beginning. I have saved documents from divorce trial, police investigation of her brother in-law, all news articles since this has begun.

I believe it is us who vote people into office so we are the ones who are ultimately responsible for the mess that Bush and company have created. However, I think it is unlikely the Democrats would have prevented the current mess. We need a third party with candicates who really do put the USA as a whole first. But I am not holding my breath, because those candidates would probably not get elected as thay would probably say that we need to undergo some pain whereas the two major parties would say that they would immediately eliminate all pain.
