Understanding Palin
I think I’ve cracked the code.
A tanning bed installed at the governor’s mansion in Juneau.
Lost in all her coverage — the notion that Gov. Sarah Palin, a college journalism major, is truly the first TV correspondent the nation is considering sending to the White House.
Is that a plus or a minus?

I’m wondering why there hasn’t been more investigation into her college record. I read that she attended 6 colleges in 6 years. That seems more than a little strange. It’s also interesting that she took a despicable swipe at Obama’s first out-of-college job – community organizing – yet her first out-of-college job was reading sports news on a local TV station. Who deserves more credit, and who is being snide, smug, and rude?

Tanning beds. This is the kind of in depth detail we need to know about our candidates. Good job keeping them honest. Now let’s move on (no pun intended) to Obama and his years in Chicago as a community organizer and member of the Annenberg education panel and Biden, his lobbyist son and their relationship to credit giant MBNA. If you are going to go into such exhaustive frenzied detail about Sarah Palin, clearly you have the ability to do so for the Democratic ticket as well. It’s ‘the people’s right to know’.

I remember all of the aspiring communictions studies majors I knew in college. They were pretty people who wanted to be seen, not smart people who wanted to know things.
So on the basis of that experience, and thinking what I think about BimboTV as practice by the cable networks, and thinking about McCain’s callow act in nominting Palin, and her ease at teasing voters with her ‘look’ (politically sluttery?), and that poor woman years ago who got fired from her news anchor position because she wasn’t pretty enough, who sued, and lost — esentially codifying in law the right to tie a woman’s looks to her employemnt as a journalist — I think my answer would be: minus.

Charlie Gibson of ABC’s ‘I know more than you do’ attitude and whisper voice interviewing Mrs. Palin was quite a spectacle. It’s really to be expected by a 3rd rate news reader. After all, ABC had picked Bob Woodruff and Liz Vargas as their #1 & 2 news readers. Charlie was down the pecking order to #3. When you pick # 3 to be #1, you still get a third rate hatchet job every time he goes out. It’s something the ABC hierarchy obviously fails to see.
Let’s have Mr. Gibson, ABC’s 3rd rate news reader interview Mr. Obama about his experience like he did Mrs. Palin. Obama has no better and perhaps even worse qualifications than Palin. Whoever wins, Obama or McCain will be calling the shots, not the VP’s. 143 days of experience in the Senate is nothing to hang your hat on. If you think about it, most people require more experience that that from an investment counsellor or home builder to construct your new house, let alone someone to lead the free world. Who has been doing the business of the people of Illinois, Arizona & NY while those Senators are out on the road campaigning for 9 months?? I don’t think this is what the founding father’s envisioned. It’s not even controlled chaos…it’s just chaos!!
In more serious terms, who do you think Mr. Putin would rather go up against in a showdown over nuclear weapons in Cuba like Kennedy did in 1964 with Kruschev……….McCain or Obama??? Who do you think Osama Bin Laden wants to face, Obama or McCain?? I’m putting my security in the hands of McCain. If you don’t have security, you don’t have anything. Ask the people of Kenya or Darfur. Terrorists have been trying since the mid 70′s to inflict the most damage they can on us till we don’t exist. This didn’t start with Bush. We are destined for worse times when history does not teach us anything.

My issue with Palin is the fact that she’s running as a “regular hockey mom”, but questions about her family are off limits. If someone was running as a “regular brain surgeon”, I’d want to know that the person could, in fact, perform brain surgery, and I’d like to know they could do it RIGHT. Her “family values” are so backwards.

Palin is under the microscope because no one really knows her. When she didn’t blink and said yes to McCain she should have known what would come.
As she said in her interview with Charlie Gibson, her life is an open book.
As of yesterday, the campaign said Palin will not cooperate with the Troopergate investigation. Will Todd Palin ignore his subpoena à la Rove?

So what Gov. Palin has a tanning bed in the Governor’s mansion! After all they don’t get much sun up there in Alaska, especially in the winter. What do you expect her to do, walk around like a pasty ghost? Besides, she doesn’t stay at the mansion much, she bills the state to stay at home. Hmm…maybe there she tan’s at the Beehive, the salon that does her hair. What you should be doing is checking if she bills THAT to the state too. Now that would be journalism. :)
Posted by: DMR | September 16, 2008, 10:12 am 10:12 am
The Keating 5 saga might have some teeth if McCain was found guilty of any wrongdoing. He wasn’t. The other 4 of the 5 were Democrats; John Glenn was one and was given a slap on the wrist. The other 3 were found guilty.
Voters would be more enlightened by a close look into Obama’s IL State Senate records, his Annenberg Challenge records, his Woods Fund records, and a review of ACORN particularly the years Obama was working for them as a Community Organizer.
All of which the media will surely get to as soon as they’re finished investigating Palin’s church, inter-office memos, and moose poop.

The “McCain campaign” has announced that Governor Palin will not be answering any questions from the Alaska legislative committee.
This matter is between the Governor and Legislature of the State of Alaska. If I were an Alaskan, I’d want to know why the “McCain campaign” is involving itself in this investigation and why a political campaign is telling me what the Governor of my state will and will not do when it comes to official state business. As Governor, she should have taken the responsibility of explaining this one herself.
The Governor should have learned a few lessons from the Clintons. If there’s no there there, put your cards on the table and get on with it. If you don’t, you’ll appear to be stonewalling and/or covering up. The “partisan” hatchet job suggested by the “McCain campaign” isn’t going to fly…this is a bipartisan committtee.

Hello…is there anybody out there? Seems the media is catching Palinitis, and forget that she’s #2 on the ticket. This is phase two of the shenanigans – or silly season as Obama quips. Deflect from the real campaign.
Consider the ongoing phase 1 – equate McCain to Bush. That assertion is predicated on suspension of belief…that McCain has had a significant change of character that runs counter to his past 20+ years of public service.
Why is this the cornerstone of the Obama strategy? Sure Bush is toxic, and any association that sticks would be bad for McCain.
The real reason? Because Obama needs that suspension of belief to establish his own change of character and judgment. e.g. “John McCain is not the same man he was 10 years ago – he’s changed for the worse. By the same token, I am not the person you’d think – the guy who associated with Wright…mingled with Rezko…etc. I’m new, different, better.” Poof!

Time to get her out of our system. This has been fun, and it has shown how a smart choice is not necessarily a wise one, just as Palin may be smart in a very limited way, but certainly not wise.
November 5 she can go back to shooting moose, wolves, marmots, and whatever else moves out there. She can also get back to her favorite book-banning project, and her favorite bridge-to-somewhere-or-other project. Or did she not want to do that after all? Hard to tell, what with all her flip-flopping.
Although, I have to admit she has inspired me to think I too can one day become a VP pick, because when I look across the lake, I can almost see Canada. That’s a country that has lots of oil, I understand, and oil is the key to national security, as we just learned. That was interesting–the anchor of the show found her a bit harsh by the end of that clip.
Did sports announcers in the ’80′s commonly use the expression “killing” to say one team was beating another? She said that twice.

I get a good laugh reading snarky comments about Obama’s use of a teleprompter. Many of you have apparently not noticed that Palin is lost without one. McCain would be better off if he used one. It was pathetic watching him try to walk back his “fundamentally sound” comments yesterday, by stumbling through index cards. It ended up looking as if neither he nor the campaign had confidence that he could handle it spontaneously.

Still want to see someone talk about Obama’s Iraq shenaningans. Any self-respecting society would have briefly allowed itself to over-indulge in her shallowness and sheer imbecility, politely according her enough airtime to hang herself with her own rope.
After digesting her and whatever vapid pronouncements she had made, the self-respecting society then would have evacuated her to the sound of trumpets, and thoroughly relieved, gone about its business of attending to the issues at hand.

oh, i was thinking about the tanning bed issue: our family has a used one and we intalled it OURSELVES so that part was free. here’s a perspective: in places like Alaska and also where I live in Western WA the winters are dark and dreary. one might say a little depressing. people her “go tanning” to get a bit of color and also to avoid seasonal affective disorder.
also, we northern euro descendents, it turns out, need a bit of daily sun to pump up our vitamin D and, apparently, aid our avoidance some nasty health issues as varied as ALS and periodontal disease (see: .
