Union Chief: ‘Jesus Was a Community Organizer’
In Lebanon, Virginia, right now United Mine Workers of America President Cecil Roberts is giving a characteristically enthusiastic introduction for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in this southwest Virginia burg.
He said Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., was more "Tonto" than "Maverick," and in a riff on community organizers — defending them from attacks from Republicans seeking to belittle Obama’s first job — he said that he, Martin Luther King, Jr., and other notables were all community organizers.
"Jesus was a community organizer," Roberts said.

Actually Jesus wasn’t the least bit interested in organizing a community. He was busy saving souls one at a time. In fact, he encouraged people to cast off the shackles of the Earth and love thy neighbor. Jesus had no interest in organizations whether they be political, community, military, whatever.
But hey, keep running with this line. It’s a political stinker that will only move the meter in the wrong direction for Barack Herbert Walker Obama.

Community Organizers do good work. I’ve done it for 15 years for various important projects off and on. I’ve also done it so the kids could have community experience points to be part of their community and help them get into college. I’m sure it also helped Obama on his application to get into Harvard. However, if I was Obama, I don’t think I would ever use the short length of my experience as an organizer as a main point to run for President. There really needs to be something more.

We’ve really in Never Never Land if it’s necessary to explain what community organizers do. You know the kind of stuff that the well off expect as a matter of course…day care, health care, decent schools, a voice in government decisions that effect their lives, jobs, community improvements.
That’s what community organizers help people who are not so well off attain. These are the people who help other people “pull themselves up by their boot straps.”
How on earth have they become the subject of derision?

Jesus was not a community organizer. He came to this world to talk about God’s love and of His coming sacrifice first for the Jews and then to the Gentiles. Jesus was willing to be mocked, beaten, and ultimately hung on the cross. He chose not to save Himself so He can save all of us. He was humble in his service, didn’t do anything more than to do what his father, Joseph, did; that is to work as a carpenter. When He died, even his clothes were taken from him. He had no burial had it not been for a rich man (“gasp!!”)who took him to a private tomb. I see none of this happening with Obama. Obama would be the first to throw anyone under the bus if they didn’t meet his political objectives. Can you imagine someone like Peter denying Jesus? Obama would be the first to say, “that’s not the Peter I knew…” In fact, Obama is the furthest thing from what the real Savior did. Please, the Union Leader was dumb to say what he said.

Actually, Community Organizers take up the responsibilities that governments neglect. Jesus took on the hypocritical Saducees and Pharisees who would put more religious custom and standards on the people than they were willing to bare. Jesus also complained about how they left the people suffering while they enjoyed their political/religious positions.

Obama was wrong when he said that “Americans can do better”.
Many people in Europe and Asia disagree. The best America can do is to continue 4 more years of bad governance as it is evident in the last 8 years of the Republican party.
Obviously, Mr Obama does not know what he is talking about.
Perhaps, he thinks that majority of Americans are as reasonable and as intelligent as he his. Wrong! Barack.

Jesus organized a group (Disciples) to perform community organizing and to teach future generations about perform community organizing for the “least of theses.”
Read “Acts” in the Bible to learn about the community organizing performed by Apostle Paul. He did much more than convey the word of Jesus. He taught people how to organize and give to the needy.
Acts 2:42-47, Acts 11:27-30

Just as they did 2000 years ago, the same kind of group that rails against the ‘religious’ and those of ‘faith’, the anti-religious who by any measurable poll, the majority of which are supporting Obama, seek now to use Jesus for their own personal political gain.
When Jesus fed the multitude they followed Him, they liked the free bread. But when he spoke to them about the falseness of their motives to follow him (they simply wanted more free food) and their refusal to accept who He claimed to be and the true change of heart He told them they needed, they turned away, later crying “crucify him”. Jesus did not come to organize communities, He came to change hearts so that those who belonged to communities would do as He commanded which would empower them to change their own communities. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” The first and greatest commandment Jesus Stated. “Love your neighbor as yourself.” He stated as the second most important command. Matthew 22:37-38
Jesus is not for politicians and those who support them to use to score cheap political points as this union boss. Virtually every politician who has ever served as president has appealed to and for Divine guidance, Democrat and Republican in times of trouble.
Bottom line, the left precipitated this. The left simply needs to stop making fun of mayors of small towns or former ones (such as Sarah Palin) who work hard all across this country in small out of the way and oft ignored communities, mayors without names and from nowhere, to organize and run those communities. Then Obama the former community organizer and those like him, who often work with mayors for the betterment of a community will not need to feel diminished.

Comparing Obama to Jesus is pathetic, sacrilegious and laughable. If the media were truly responsible and reported on just what Obama did as community organizer it would be apparent that this is no post-racial candidate. Much of his effort was devoted to advancing the political power of the African American community at the exclusion of other ethnic groups. Why else would an Ivy League lawyer have attended such a controversial church unless it was in keeping with his political views at the time? Al Sharpton yes, Jesus Christ never!

I can see why some people think that Jesus was an organizer because He did feed the hungry, but when you read the context, it wasn’t so much that their hunger had bothered him, but that it was also a manner to teach about the salvation provided by God. Other posters were right; Jesus stayed away from politics. In fact, he was lured into it by the question of taxes, and also whether He would restore Jerusalim at that time. Jesus didn’t use people for His own advance. Instead, He allowed others to use Him, but to further God’s Kingdom. There are, of course, none of these attributes in Obama.

The media, MYT, WaPo, ABC, and CNN should be shamed of themselves. MsNBC should just shut itself done for doing lousy work:
Since they didn’t know anything about her, they started making things up. Anything that fit the caricature of a right-wing hypocrite was thrown up with, seemingly, no fact-checking.
They said she opposes contraception, when she said in a campaign debate that she is pro-contraception. They said she cut funding for pregnant teens, when she provided a massive funding hike.
They accused her of cutting funding for mentally disabled children, when she raised it 175 percent over the former administration. She was said to have been a member of the wacky Alaska Independence Party; The New York Times had to run a retraction.

Jesus would not have been worrying about abortion, sex ed to kids in schools. He is looking for us his followers to take up the mantle to love people enough to help eliminate the cause of unwanted pregnancies instead of judging people for their free will, which by the way he didn’t impose on while he was here. Seems like people have more chatter about what others should do instead of seeking the power from GOD to help to the knowledge of Christ.

One term you seldom ever hear in the same breath is..Republican community activist or advocate! Why is that? Do republicans ever think of anyone but themselves? Is it all about just you(the individual) or do any of you care about the “collective.” And when it comes to religion…why are you all so “self righteous?” It reminds me of the pharicees during Jesus time. Their claim was simple, Jesus can not be the savior if he did not come from with-in our circle (party, church etc..) Sound familiar? No one is calling Obama Jesus or a Savior or the Messiah in that context. Stop it already and really think with logic. Study history and try not to make the same mistakes over and over again. Stop just thinking about yourselves and remember we “all” live here and are not going anywhere! For you business owners…what do you think will happen if poor people and working poor poeple have a better life? They will spend money with “you” for goods and services idiots!! “Experience” is often just a fancy word for the mistakes that we belatedly realized we were making, only after the realities of the world made us pay a painful price for being wrong (Thomas Sowell, 9/9/08). America is lucky because like the majority of Americans, Obama received his bachelors (undergraduate) degree in what is the typical American university and only spent two years at Harvard where he seems to have been brainwashed into the elitist community. Thomas Sowell (9/9/08) asserted that “ordinary working class people did not lead the stampede to Barack Obama, even before his disdain for them slipped out in unguarded moments. Although Obama lives in a denial phase, experience is what hurts Obama since he lacks experience in almost every area of importance to the nation.
The left calls this “change” but in fact it is a set of notions that were tried out by the Western democracies in the 1930s — and which led to the most catastrophic war in history” (Sowell, p. 1) and two World Wars. It was the liberal media that created the mystic Obama affect of an American leader without the benefit of experience expected from presidential candidates of the past. It is Obama’s character and lack of high ethical standards that has made Obama the typical Washington Politician. Since being sworn into the US Senate on January 4, 2005, Senator Obama has served on the Health (no show at US Senate), Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (no show at US Senate), on the Foreign Relations Committee (no show at US Senate), and the Veterans’ Affairs Committee (no show at US Senate). In 2005 and 2006, he served on the Environment and Public Works Committee, mostly in name only since in the same manner as he did in the Illinois State Senate, Obama has a problem serving in any Senate floor. For example, although Obama has received much criticism for his lack of action as a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, to date he continues to have a record of non-action. It seems Obama sole role in the US Senate has been as a Presidential candidate.

“And, the United Mine Workers President uses the name of an American Indian in an attempt to belittle John McCain…” Wrong!
“Tonto” is not an American Indian name, even though it belonged to the Lone Ranger’s faithful Indian sidekick. It is a Spanish word for “fool”. He used it as a humorous riff about characters in old ’50s TV westerns…like James Garner’s “Maverick” series, where the Brett Maverick character was a loveable, womanizing, con-artist and gambler.
At any rate, either name is an apt description of McCain: George Bush’s foolish sidekick or a womanizing gambler trying to con the american people.

Mannwell,
I’m not a Republican, I’m a conservative, so perhaps my answer won’t be that revealing. But to answer your question, conservatives believe in self-rule. We believe that you are smart and resourceful enough to manage your own life and do not need Big Brother to tell you how to do it. As you probably know, conservatives donate more money to charity than liberals. Conservatives donate more time in volunteering than liberals. I was prepared to give a large check for Tsunami relief until our present president decided he knew better than me and opted to TAX my contribution. So I tore up the check. President Bush also pledged my tax dollars and tax dollars of my grandchildren who are barely out of diapers for Katrina and Rita relief. President Bush also, with our democratic led congress is GIVING 1.5 BILLION dollars to Mexico. Bush, Obama, McCain, Pelosi, Biden, Clinton, Kennedy, Reid do not represent me. They all think they know better than I do how to run my life. Until people like you and me remember that the government works for us – and WE THE PEOPLE are in charge, we will get more of the same. We need to take back our government. We need to remind them that they work for us.

And, how about the “Bridge to Nowhere” that Obama and Biden keep trying to slam Sarah Palin with…
Let’s get the record straight on this little project…
The basis for this story comes from the Washington Post US Congress Votes Database.
Though Gov. Palin originally supported the earmark spending on the Ketchikan bridge (“to nowhere), she eventually killed the project, chosing to spend Federal money on other infrasturcture programs.
However, Sen. Biden and Sen. Obama both voted for funding the Bridge, even when given a second chance by Sen. Tom Coburn, who proposed shifting earmark funds to Katrina relief.
Sen. McCain did not vote on the Coburn Amendment, though he is on record as opposing the Ketchikan bridge earmark.
And, Obama and Biden believe a “Bridge to Nowhere” is worthy of their vote.
Funny we don’t hear about this from Obama or Old Joe Biden…

Jesus was NOT a community organizer. He healed individuals one-at-a-time. He spoke to crowds, but didn’t organize them! Well where’s his grave? Oh, he died, was “resurrected” and then he “ascended” to heaven… And all without leaving behind a single shred of proof that he was ever here. Nothing but a “gospel” to pass on. How convenient. Translated from Greek – Greek, gotta love those Greeks and their mythologies. Auugh, the Greeks! They gave us Zeus, Apollo, Athena, and a few others that I can’t remember. But their greatest hit ever was Jesus Christ of Nazareth. “Gospel” – taken from the original Greek Translation of “gōdspel”, broken down into two original ancient Greek words meaning “good + spel”. Yeah, it was indeed a good spell. Lasting till present day. Over 2000 years. One hell of a spell – and I don’t mind saying so.

BZZT! Wrong. See Josephus for a historical account of the time. There are arguments about the authenticity of the manuscript but that’s true of many ancient manuscripts. Then there are the Nag Hammadi texts and other early Christian writings such as the Coptic texts.
The age of the nearest texts post Josephus are about as near a biography of Abraham Lincoln to today.

So far we have learned that Palin is against Jesus and supports teen pregnancy.

If Republicians compared themselves to GOD or a higher power, the media and the Democrats would be chanting that the Republicians were anti religion. As a Christian, I always have to be tolerate and understanding or I am considered prejudice . When people are anti Christian they are just expressing themselves. Talk about double standards.

The real difference between a community organizer and a mayor/governor is you don’t get to bill your travel expenses to your house to taxpayers and you can never leave a city that has no debt in over $22 Million in debt while you “serve the people”.
Obama 08!

Actually, you can’t send an idiot to Harvard. And an idiot will never be chosen to run the Harvard Law Review. An idiot can however transfer to six different universities in five years. And an idiot can graduate 894 out of 899 in his Naval Academy class.
There is nothing honorable in lying about your time as a POW. There is nothing honorable about voting FOR torture. There is nothing honorable about supporting insurance coverage for Viagra but not birth control.
Anyone who feel the needs to refer to Obama by his middle name is a racist xenophobe.

I certainly can’t speak for Jesus but I can’t imagine Jesus would have anything to do with today’s ACORN.

But as fas as I could tell, Jesus DID not vote “PRESENT”.

Jesus is the THE ONE.
Obama is NOT.

Yeah….But Republicans believe Jesus has taken sides and joined the Republican party…..he is now a reformer and quit his community organizing…

Of course Jesus was more than simply a community organizer…but indeed he was, as were those in the Civil Rights Movement and the Women’s Suffrage Movement etc…
Pilate was a mayor.

I don’t have a problem with community organizations. I think they can create change for the people that need it the most. However, when money earmarked for community organizations goes into the political machine, we need to rethink their usefullness. Why should we increase our earmarks when they have excess money to divert to the Democratic Party? Why should taxpayers money (both Democrats and Republicans) go to the Democratic Party. ACORN has endorsed Obama this week and have donated to his election. As a Republican, I object to my tax dollars going to a political party, when it should be used for helping the poor and unemployed.

Jesus did not bomb innocent civilians or try to build a bridge to nowhere. Instead He called us to serve others, calling it the basis for “eternal life,” when we serve “the least of these,” or again, cross the road to help the “good Samaritan.” Jesus did not call us to mock those who follow his teachings or endorse and follow those who do. At the same Palin claims being a politician is the ideal. Politicians are the responsible ones she asserted, not those who serve others. Someone can’t imagine Jesus would have anything to do with ACORN, a group that goes into Americas ghettos and does what politicians have failed to do. But 2000 years ago conservative Christian leaders, protecting their positions of power, could not imagine that Jesus was the Messiah. He became involved with “outcasts,” those denigrated by society.

WOW – so this “jesus was a community organizer” and Pontius Pilate was a governeor has now come out of the motuhs of how many prominent Oblah blah sychophants over the past 3 days?
Does anyone NOT think that somone was sitting in OZ Central dreaming this up?
Here’s a clue:
Jesus was the SON of God -
HE was Not SENT to ORGANIZE anything
He was sent to remind of us Gods expectations of us here on EARTH .
To offer himself up for our sins and allow us to be redeemed.
=============
DEMS REALLY need to get off the MESSIAH juice- REALLY

Keep offending people, Obama supporters. It’s working, really working…to send people to the other side. Comparing ANYONE to Christ as if they were on the same level is offensive.

Wow. those of you thinking obama is being compared to jesus are just downright obtuse. COME ON!! Stop already!
LISTEN TO THE ISSUES!! USE YOUR COMPUTERS FOR MORE THAN PORN!!!
If the repubs want to have a dangerous calendar girl who says that “…Our leaders, our national leaders are sending them (troops) out on a task that is from God…” and that, “…There is a plan and that plan is God’s plan…”
Please stop getting caught up in the spin and open your eyes and put on those listening ears and don’t let the fear rule you!
DON’T LET THE SPIN WIN!!!

I personally am offended. I was a Hillary supporter who has always believed in both sides of the issues in certain areas. The Democrats have lost me. Comparing a man, a simple man actually to Jesus, is truly the seal on the coffin for me.

People are completly missing the point of the comment that Jesus was a Community organizer. He wasn’t comparing Obama to Jesus, he was adding credibility to the job of community organizer that so many republicans seem to look down on. I’m so sick of Republicans twisting the truth.

I find the comment that “Jesus was a community organizer” highly offensive. To me this is mocking the Son of God for political purposes.
Jesus is the Son of God, he is our Redeemer and Savior.
To compare Jesus to any person, is inappropriate and offensive. This is way out of bounds.

Regarding this Obama = Jesus / Palin = Pontius Pilot thing.
I think that Pilot saying he washes his hands of this man is more representative of Obama voting “present” rather than yea or nay.
I don’t recall Jesus registering voters, or getting youth together to play hoop or being involved in any political aspect of government. His message was quite different and had to do with organizing ones self not the community.
The most renowned community organizer in history was Hitler, that is how he came to power too and look what happened there.

Martin Luther King was an organizer. He mobilized people to take on hypocritical politicians. Palin bashed politicians in part of her speech, then argued that politicians like her are more responsible than community organizers, like Martin Luther King.
