Biden Attends Mother-In-Law’s Funeral
EmailABC News’ Matt Jaffe reports: Democratic vice-presidential nominee Sen. Joe Biden, D-Dela., Tuesday attended the funeral of his late mother-in-law Bonny Jean Jacobs, who passed away Sunday at the age of 78 after a long illness.
Jacobs, from Willow Grove, Penn., is survived by her five daughters, including the senator’s wife Jill.
Jacobs’ husband Donald passed away in 1999.
The morning service at Abington Presbyterian Church near Philadelphia comes at the end of a trying post-debate stretch for the Delaware lawmaker. His mother-in-law’s death Sunday came on the same day his son Beau began a year-long deployment to Iraq by departing for training in Texas.
On Wednesday, Biden will get back on the campaign trail traveling to Florida, where he will hold his first solo campaign rally in 12 days. His last solo rally was on September 26 in Cudahy, Wisconsin, near Milwaukee.
Since then, Biden has spent two days campaigning with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama in North Carolina, Virginia, and Michigan, took four days to prepare for last Thursday’s vice-presidential debate in St. Louis, attended Friday’s deployment ceremony for Beau in Dover, and then cancelled four days of events in Washington DC, Virginia, New Hampshire, and Florida to remain with his family in Wilmington.

My deepest condolences to the Biden and Jacobs families. This is a difficult enough time for any family and it is probably made more difficult by the pressures of a presidential campaign. I have great respect for any candidate who can carry on with this kind of pressure after the loss of a loved one.
May the memory of Mrs. Jacobs’ love for her family strengthen all of you.

Joe Biden has become a hero in the eyes of all decent Americans for his attention to family at this time. McCain and Palin who have taken advantage of his absence, attack, and and do not even acknowledge his sacrifice on the campaign trail, represent the worst of our country and barely qualify as human beings, never mind legitimate candidates. Biden and Obama will reap great rewards for their integrity. McCain and Palin and their supporters will fail miserably and end up in disgrace, with a whole lot of bad Karma to make up for.

Sometimes a blog needs a filtering system to remove comments that are off point and offensive. The post by Mr. Turner meets that criterion. Allowing, comments like his, diminishes the quality of the blog, and makes intelligent individuals reluctant to post.

I can’t help but notice that many McCain supporters have been particularly vile as of late. In a recent McCain rally you have people screaming at the top of their lungs that Obama is a terrorist, and even one guy suggesting that Obama be murdered, and McCain not even flinching or showing an consciousness to the vileness around him. Now we have Nat Turner in this comment thread derailing a topic because he disagrees with Biden’s claims. Sure, he made some factual errors, as did Palin. But is that worth injecting into a topic having to do with the death of Biden’s mother-in-law.

I hope that the Biden family was able to push all of the rest away for a bit and just focus on each other and the memory of someone who sounds like a lovely, and lively, woman. ……. And I hope that they did not learn (and never learn) that Sarah Palin couldn’t wait until after the funeral was over to start adding attacks on Biden in on her already-sickening attacks on Obama!! What does that sort of thing accomplish except to spread hate and anger? “The end pre-exists in the means” McCain and Palin are showing us how they will lead, with no concern or compassion for anyone – not even any civility.
