Biden Cancels Weekend Events For Family Illness
ABC News’ Matthew Jaffe reports: Democratic vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden Saturday cancelled two days of campaign events to remain at his Wilmington home due to the illness of his mother-in-law.
"The campaign has cancelled Sen. Biden’s schedule today and tomorrow because of a serious illness in Jill Biden’s family," said Biden spokesman David Wade in a statement. "Hospice has advised the Bidens to remain close by, and we appreciate everyone’s respect for the family’s privacy."
ABC News has confirmed that Jill Biden’s mother, Bonnie Jacobs, is is receiving care for a serious illness in nearby Pennsylvania. In fact, Biden took a later train to Washington, DC, last Wednesday for the Senate vote on the economic bailout package due to a conference call with doctors on the situation. The illness of Jill Biden’s mother comes at the same time as Sen. Biden’s son Beau deploys to Iraq. Beau, Delaware state attorney general and a captain in the National Guard, starts his deployment Sunday with training in Fort Bliss, Texas.
The Senator’s cancelled events for Saturday include a Washington, DC fundraiser and a speech at the Human Rights Campaign National Dinner, as well as Sunday rallies in Roanoke and Richmond, Virginia.

Wow, I love the way this man puts his family first. Its says alot about his character more than any campaign commercial could. This is the second time I’ve heard he did this. First putting his political office or bid off to take care of his sickly child and now this. A maverick at heart. Love it.

Well, Jon, perhaps you’re confused – Senator Biden is the candidate for VICE-president. But I’m guessing he doesn’t expect the world to stop for his family. One would hope, however, that given an opportunity to be there to support his family, he would choose to do so rather than to attend a fundraiser or a rally – rather unimportant events when compared to a family illness. I suspect the majority of American people would understand and be supportive of his behavior in this situation.
To the Biden Family, we wish you well.

Joe Biden is trash. He’s been so uninspiring and such a drag on the campaign that Obama’s people are just setting him up to drop out. With that done, he can insert someone who won’t be examined and Biden can save face by saying he’s “with his family.” Liberal’s thirst for power has no bounds.

The insensitive remarks by Jon and Diane reminds all good people about the heartlessness of the same ilk of republicans who fought against Sociel Security, Medicare, Equal Rights for all, and everything good that Democrats like Joe Biden fight and (yes) die for. The Bushes, the McCains, Jon, Diane, and Sarah Pain and their supporters are not Americans…they are elitist, selfish, and lack compassion.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Biden family at this difficult time. May his mother-in-law be comforted by the love that will surround her and may her family be supported by that same love.
Biden has ALWAYS put family first, even to the point of making it a practice in his office that he was always available to his sons, no matter what he was doing, after the death of his first wife. That deserves respect.
As for you idiots that are bashing the Senator at this time, God forbid you should lose someone and have anyone make the similar insensitive remarks about you, should you have to miss work. This behavior is totally disgusting. I don’t care which side of the aisle someone is one, they deserve respect and sympathy when they have suffered a loss. That goes for McCain, Palin, Bush, and, yes, even Cheney.

As for the Republicans who would use this article’s comments as a launching place for their venom and lies, shame on you. The American people have wisened up to your dirty tricks and lies. BTW, check out http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/taxes.asp for a detailed and accurate response to the tax post above. I have known of Joe Biden forever as I was raised in Wilmington, Delaware and graduated from the University of Delaware. I remember when Joe’s wife and daughter were killed and the entire state mourned with the young Senator, the hometown hero, in his hours of loss and sadness. It is a wonder that he has accomplished all that he has. He shows a steadfastness and balance that few show over the course of a lifetime and I am so enjoying that he is the Vice Presidential nomination this year.
Thank you for being in this place at this time and God bless you. I lost my 20 year daughter to cancer and I know the journey of rising to be the best that we can be, partly in memory to those whom we loved so much and are here only in Spirit. I am however convinced that in your quiet times, you know that your young wife and daughter are present with you now and surround you with their love.

Fake! Fake candidate for Vice President! We are Americans; why are we putting up with this? Sarah Palin is a fake candidate for the Vice Presidency of the United States! Sarah Palin will remain a fake candidate until she begins to meet the major press without preconditions and with intent to speak to the issues and answer any reasonable follow up questions regarding the most important subjects that concern Americans.
So until we actually get to consistently and regularly hear directly from Sarah Palin about political positions important to America, whatever Sarah Palin says matters only to those who, in a very un-American way, have closed their minds to the voices of any candidates beyond Sarah Palin and those associated with her.

I do not want John McCain to be our next president because I do not like his political choices and policies or even his particular governing style. But that doesn’t mean I make up nasty stories about him or hurl mud.
I believe he would be utterly contemptuous of the few bitter people posting here or elsewhere who are sharing their smears, ugly fantasies, and insults about the Bidens. You are not mainstream Republicans or normal McCain supporters. You are beyond the pale of decent human discourse.

My sympathy and apologies to the Biden family if this is not a political ruse but there has been wide spread talk and behind the scene whispers of Obama campaign replacing Biden and allowing him the excuse of a family illness for the past month. The rumors had stated October 4th or 5th would be the day they start this replacement agenda and it is in fact the 5th. Biden is truly a decent man and real American. Obama; however, is not and this just goes to show how he will stop at nothing to get his power. Joe will be better off without the man if this does come to pass, he was only being dragged down to the vile levels of Obama during the last month anyway.

screw you assholes, Grand Ole Party is right:
“If that was Sarah Palin’s sick relative, the Dems would be like, “I hope she dies a painful death and takes that bitch Sarah with her.”

I don’t know why these GOP sickos can’t
even say one kind word of comfort to another human being who is undergoing a personal tragedy. I think that is what characterizes both Obama and Biden and distinguishes them from Mc Cain and Palin as the latter never have a good thing to say about the Dem candidates, but the Dems on the other hand congratulated and cheered the other guys by agreeing on some points and agreeing to disagree on others. The Dems are cultured and polite and don’t keep trading insults like Mc Cain and his VP with whom he seems to have a crush!I am referring to Mc Cain looking at Sara adoringly and protectively as a father would on his daughter! THE USA had its brightest years as a shining beacon to the whole word when Bill Clinton ruled. THE GOP stole the presidency and shamelessly held onto it for 8 years . .. .. its time for them to buzz off!

I hope Biden and Obama die and go to hell.
That would serve these stupid Obots right after all the hate and vile they spewed to Hillary.

How shameful that some of you have no regard for human life! We are human first, not Democrats or Republicans. What sort of a people have we become that we can come online anonymously and wish death to someone because of their political affiliation?

you can put lipstick on Michelle Obama, but it’s still a gorilla.

It’s true that Biden’s mother-in-law is very ill (reported to be near death), but it’s also been said that Biden is using this excuse not to campaign for Obama until he looks more closely into the Obama/Ayers story. It’s not Obama that wants Biden off the ticket, it’s Biden that wants out, he feels like Obama has destroyed his political career if this is true. He is in close contact with his close friend John McCain who truly cares about Biden unlike Obama who only looks at Biden as a tool to the Whitehouse.
Lots of prayers for Biden tonight, folks. He deserves God’s Guidance and Blessings.

It is so disturbing to hear the attacks from both sides of this election. I know most of these people would never say most of these horrible things if they didn’t have the anonymity of the internet to hide behind. Is there any reason we can’t act like adults, discuss our differences without resorting to childish taunts, ignorant slurs and ridiculous name-calling? Sen. Biden’s family has suffered a painful loss. If it were to happen to any of the candidates, I would like to think we could offer sincere condolences and afford the family some dignity and privacy. Come on, people, let’s grow up and behave with some class and not like a bunch of ignorant trailer-trash who don’t deserve to live in the most advanced society in the world.
