Biden’s on Tonight Show: ‘What About this Joe?’
ABC News’ Matthew Jaffe Reports: In a taped appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" to air later Thursday, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., joked that Joe "The Plumber" Wurzelbacher, who was the man of the hour at Wednesday’s presidential debate, had not only stolen the spotlight from the two party nominees at the New York showdown, but also from him.
"Welcome to the show, I’m your host, Jay the Plumber," Leno had said at the start of the Burbank taping, before later noting to Biden that Joe the Plumber had replaced Joe Six-Pack as the talk of the political world, prompting Biden to wonder whatever happened to another famous Joe.
"What about this Joe?" the Democratic vice-presidential candidate asked.
"That’s right," replied Leno. "How about Joe the senator?"
"I hardly get any coverage," said Biden. "That’s why I wanted to be on this show."
Biden managed to sneak in a dig at Joe the Plumber, who doesn’t have a plumbing license.
"I don’t know many plumbers who are making $250,000 a year and worried about it," the senator said. "We’re kind of worried about Joe the fireman, Joe the policeman, Joe the real plumber with a license."
Another person who has stolen the spotlight from Biden on the campaign trail is his Republican counterpart, Gov. Sarah Palin.
"You were also the star of the highest-rated TV show of the year," Leno said to Biden of his October 2 vice-presidential debate with Sen. John McCain’s running mate.
"No, I was the co-star," Biden corrected him. "They all showed up for Sarah, not me."
"She has really captivated a large part of the American public," the Delaware lawmaker added later. "So you know, I was just the bit player in that debate."
As for McCain, R-Ariz., Biden reiterated his contention that the GOP nominee has grown "more angry than he usually is" because he is uncomfortable with "the negative stuff" his campaign has been spreading about Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill..
"He seems a little more angry than he usually is," Biden said of McCain’s most recent debate performance. "I really do like John and we do go back a long way, but I don’t know. It just doesn’t seem – - John doesn’t seem comfortable right now."
Biden, a Philadelphia Phillies fan, was torn Wednesday evening between watching the third and final presidential debate or Game 5 of the NLCS, which saw Biden’s favorite ballclub battling for the National League pennant.
"I watched the debate when Barack was speaking, then I switched to the Phillies when John was speaking," Biden joked about he how he reconciled his prime-time programming dilemma.
The Phillies defeated the Dodgers 5-1 to advance to their first World Series in 15 years.
"The Phillies did great!", Biden exclaimed to the Burbank crowd. "Sorry, Los Angeles."
The program started with Leno and Biden backstage in the dressing room, with Biden promising "I’ve made some verbal gaffes, but not this time, not this time." The Democratic vice-presidential nominee then promptly made fun of himself by introducing the show as, "Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!"
During the ensuing interview, Leno played Biden his most recent gaffe, when Biden Wednesday spelled out for the Athens, Ohio crowd "a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S." http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/10/oh-that-joe-n-6.html
"I knew I shouldn’t have had lunch with Dan Quayle," Biden joked. "I mean, I don’t know what happened there."
"I’ve made many a gaffe in my life and I suspect I’ll make a whole lot more," Biden assured the audience.
Leno also poked fun at Biden for his close-talking, touchy-feely habits, showing a fake McCain/Palin ad of Biden taking the Amtrak train to work in Washington – as he always does – but instead bothering other passengers with his in-your-face style.
"You take the train to work and just want to be left alone," said the ad. "But here comes Biden getting all touchy-feely. First he squeezes, then he leans, squeezes, leans. We don’t need a squeezer and a leaner in the White House. Vote McCain-Palin. I’m John McCain and I approve this message."
The senator’s appearance came exactly one month to the day after his son Beau appeared on the late-night talk show September 16.
Following the taping, Biden made the short trip through Burbank to tape an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" set to air Monday. Later Thursday night, the senator will also hold two closed fundraisers in West Hollywood.
Actor Colin Farrell appeared on both shows with Biden, but in separate interviews. The senator went first on "The Tonight Show", but second on "Ellen".

Obama Avoids Questions on Contraception Rule
Obama thinks you make poor people rich just by giving them YOUR money
Posted by: Obamagyn | October 16, 2008, 10:44 pm 10:44 pm
Obama says to Spread the wealth is another way of saying use YOUR money to make more welfare programs for the WELFARE QUEENS who never have any intention of working and never will as long as their is politicians like Comrade Obama
Posted by: scnner | October 16, 2008, 10:46 pm 10:46 pm
Go back and see what Obama REALLY said:
““Over the last 15 years, when you weren’t making 250, you would have been given a tax cut from me, so you’d actually have more money, which means you would have saved more, which means you would have gotten to the point where you could build your small business quicker than under the current tax code. So there are two ways of looking at it – I mean one way of looking at it is, now that you’ve become more successful through hard work – you don’t want to be taxed as much.”
“Exactly,” Wurzelbacher said.
Obama continued, “But another way of looking at it is 95% of folks who are making less than 250, they may be working hard too, but they’re being taxed at a higher rate than they would be under mine. So what I’m doing is, put yourself back 10 years ago when you were only making whatever, 60 or 70. Under my tax plan you would be keeping more of your paycheck, you’d be paying lower taxes, which means you would have saved…Now look, nobody likes high taxes.”
“No,” said Wurzelbacher.
“Of course not,” said Obama. “But what’s happened is that we end up – we’ve cut taxes a lot for folks like me who make a lot more than 250. We haven’t given a break to folks who make less, and as a consequence, the average wage and income for ordinary folks, the vast majority of Americans, has actually gone down over the last eight years. So all I want to do is – I’ve got a tax cut. The only thing that changes, is I’m gonna cut taxes a little bit more for the folks who are most in need and for the 5% of the folks who are doing very well – even though they’ve been working hard and I appreciate that – I just want to make sure they’re paying a little bit more in order to pay for those other tax cuts. Now, I respect the disagreement. I just want you to be clear – it’s not that I want to punish your success – I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you – that they’ve got a chance at success too.”
THOUGHFUL. CONCERNED ABOUT THE MIDDLE CLASS. BARACK OBAMA.

I worked for 39 years and I am not rich never was and never will be when half of my income pays federal tax. I am sick of people saying tax dollars goes for welfare, well health care better roads safer bridges and better education is welfare not in my book it isn’t. Educating the public ON how to stay healthy, get better energy with what they have, conserve , alternative energy I want my tax dollars used in America and I think anyone with a brain between their ears feels the say way, I am tired of hearing and seeing my money being spent on a war that no one wanted with a country that can pay for it themselves.

Joe Biden piles on even more crap about an average everyday American who had the temerity to ask “The One” an honest question and then tells the audience with sincere authority that John McCain is the one being negative.
Joe Biden what a shameless prig you are!

Barack Obama:
“Obama said, “My attitude is that if the economy’s good for folks from the bottom up, it’s gonna be good for everybody. If you’ve got a plumbing business, you’re gonna be better off if you’re gonna be better off if you’ve got a whole bunch of customers who can afford to hire you, and right now everybody’s so pinched that business is bad for everybody and I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”
“But listen,” Obama said, shaking Wurzelbacher’s hand, “I respect what you do and I respect your question, and even if I don’t get your vote, I’m still gonna be working hard on your behalf, because small businesses are what creates jobs in this country and I want to encourage it.”
IS THIS TRUE OR WHAT? When the middle class is doing well, the nation is doing well.
Too bad that John McCain is mostly concerned with those making $250,000 a year or more!
Thank goodness Barack Obama is mostly concerned with the middle class!

Obama thinks that in this tough time NO ONE deserves to lose their home and their jobs and their health care.
If folks have billions or millions or even 250,000 they can help.
Where were you Obamagyn and scnner when we were bailing out mulitbillon dollar companies.
Now you have issue with America keeping food on families tables.

Obama is only going to win becuase of the BLACK vote and no other reason.
Not becuase he like Lincoln or JFK or MLK. What a laugh the Liberal Media is saying.
If you take the 100 percent of the blacks who are going to vote Obama out of the equation Obama would lose in a landslide.

sheryl,
If you think making $250,000 a year is ‘average everyday’, you seriously need to see a doctor.
I am an engineer and I don’t make $250,000.
No one, even my friend who is a lawyer makes $250,000.
Most doctors don’t make $250,000 a year!
During the last 7.5 years, REAL WAGES for the middle class have gone down.
During the same period, the wealth of the top 5% has gone up.
The MIDDLE CLASS needs a break. But John McCain is mostly concerned about those who are making $250,000 or more!

When Senator Obama says spread the wealth, he is talking about everyone paying their fair share and the fact is the rich get more tax breaks than the rest of us. He is not referring to a welfare of any kind. Warren Buffet, one of Obama’s economic advisors, says he pays a 17.7% tax rate while his employees pay 32.9%. Even Mr. Buffet sees there is something very wrong about that. John McCain on the other hand does. He believes in trickle down economics. Give to the rich and eventually it will trickle down to the rest of us. Just like Bush and we all know how well that has worked out.

African Americans are Americans just like you! Same rights as you! Same right to vote, just like you! You think your vote should mean more? Why is that Rose? Are you “more worthy”?
You seem to think that because Barack has support of the African American community that’s something bad?
More realistically, the Pubs have never cared about the African American community. Perhaps you should get past your obvious condescending view and realize we live in a diverse nation.
And it’s only going to get more diverse!

OBAMA’S OFF-MESSAGE MAN
Is Obama Ready To Be President? Biden Says No
BIDEN TAKES OBAMA OFF MESSAGE ON EXPERIENCE
Biden Has Served As Obama’s Top Foreign Policy Critic, Even Saying Obama Is Not Ready To Be President:
Biden Said Obama Is Not Ready To Serve As President. ABC’s George Stephanopoulos: “You were asked is he ready. You said ‘I think he can be ready, but right now I don’t believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.’” Sen. Biden: “I think that I stand by the statement.” (ABC’s, “This Week,” 8/19/07)
Biden: “If the Democrats think we’re going to be able to nominate someone who can win without that person being able to table unimpeachable credentials on national security and foreign policy, I think we’re making a tragic mistake…” (Sen. Joe Biden, “The Diane Rehm Show,” 8/2/07)
Biden: “Having Talking Points On Foreign Policy Doesn’t Get You There.” (“Biden Lashes Out At Obama,” ABC News’ “Political Radar” Blog, blogs.abcnews.com, 8/2/07)
Biden Attacked Obama For Voting Against Funding U.S. Troops In Iraq And Afghanistan, Accusing Him Of “Cutting Off Support That Will Save The Lives Of Thousands Of American Troops.” Biden: “And, look, Tim, if you tell me I’ve got to take away this protection for these kids in order to win the election, some things aren’t worth it. Some things are worth losing over. That would be worth losing over. Hundreds of lives are being saved and will be saved by us sending these vehicles over which we are funding with this supplemental legislation. And I want to ask any of my other colleagues, would they, in fact, vote to cut off the money for those troops to protect them? That’s the right question. This isn’t cutting off the war. This is cutting off support that will save the lives of thousands of American troops.” (NBC’s “Meet The Press,” 9/9/07)
Biden On Obama’s Leadership On Iraq: “I Don’t Recall Hearing A Word From Barack About A Plan Or A Tactic.” (Jason Horowitz, “Biden Unbound: Lays Into Clinton, Obama, Edwards,” The New York Observer, 2/4/07)
Biden On Whether He Would Meet Unconditionally With The Leaders Of Rogue States As Obama Said He Would: “Absolutely Positively No.” Biden: “Would I make a blanket commitment to meet unconditionally with the leaders of each of those countries within the first year I was elected president? Absolutely positively no.” (Sen. Joe Biden, Remarks At The National Press Club, Washington, DC, 8/1/07)
Biden Attacked Obama’s Public Pronouncement That He Would Unilaterally Attack Pakistan, Saying “The Last Thing You Want To Do Is Telegraph To The Folks In Pakistan That We’re About To Violate Quote ‘Their Sovereignty.’” Biden: “[A]nd I’m told, Senator Obama announced today. Senator Lantos (sic) and I wrote into law, the requirement that the aid to Pakistan be conditioned upon their support of us going after Al Qaeda in their Western province. It already is a law. The question, the way to deal with it is not to announce it, is to do it. The last thing you want to do is telegraph to the folks in Pakistan that we’re about to violate quote ‘their sovereignty,’ putting Musharraf in a position that makes it virtually impossible for him to do anything other than what he’s done. Basically cut a deal with the warlords along that border to our great detriment. So it’s not something you talk about.” (Sen. Joe Biden, Remarks At The National Press Club, Washington, DC, 8/1/07)
Biden Criticized Obama’s “Johnny-Come-Lately Position” On Afghanistan. “The Biden for President Campaign today congratulated Sen. Barack Obama for arriving at a number of Sen. Biden’s long-held views on combating al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Much of what Senator Obama has proposed Senator Biden has already initiated or accomplished.” (Sen. Joe Biden, “Biden Campaign Congratulates Sen. Obama For Johnny-Come-Lately Position,” Press Release, 8/1/07)
BIDEN TAKES OBAMA OFF MESSAGE ON FOREIGN POLICY
Biden’s Experience Involves Supporting The War In Iraq, Which Obama Attacks:
Obama Argued That “Saddam Poses No Imminent And Direct Threat To The United States, Or To His Neighbors,” Saying He Will Fall “Away Into The Dustbin Of History.” Obama: “[S]addam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.” (State Sen. Barack Obama, Remarks Against Going to War With Iraq, Chicago, IL, 10/2/02)
Obama Attacked Proponents Of The Iraq War As Having “Helped To Authorize And Engineer The Biggest Foreign Policy Disaster In Our Generation.” Obama: “Well, look, I find it amusing that those who helped to authorize and engineer the biggest foreign policy disaster in our generation are now criticizing me for making sure that we are on the right battlefield and not the wrong battlefield in the war against terrorism.” (Sen. Barack Obama, MSNBC/AFL-CIO Democrat Presidential Forum, 8/7/07)
Biden Voted For The Iraq War Resolution. (H.J. Res. 114, CQ Vote #237: Passed 77-23: R 48-1; D 29-21; I 0-1, 10/11/02, Biden Voted Yea)
Biden Called Saddam Hussein “An Extreme Danger To The World.” Biden: “This is a guy who’s used weapons of mass destruction. This is a guy who’s destabilized the whole neighborhood. This is a guy who in a war with the Iranians, over 800,000 people on both sides were killed. This is a guy who is an extreme danger to the world. And this is a guy who is in every way possible seeking weapons of mass destruction. That case, in and of itself, ought to be sufficient.” (NBC’s “Meet The Press,” 8/4/02)

I cannot wait for an articulate, bright, knowlegeable, thinking president to enter the White House. That sounds like Barack Obama. McCain is too hot tempered and mean..he would want to bomb everyone including Alaska if they try to secede. This man is shifty and changes his mind faster than you change direction when you are walking..”I will not debate tonight” Then he changes his mind and shows up..I can give you ten more scenarios like that one. Do you want a shifty president..who acts first and think later? Obama is a thinking man and he is much smarter than McCain. That is the kind of President that we need..One who can diplomatically sit down and talk with our enemies and come to some common understanding..It can be done..so people are good at that..I am not a fan of Jesse Jackson but I admit that he is a master negotiator and I can see that gift in Obama..this is the kind of President that we need for world peace..McCain would not talk to any one and would make threats. That is why the world overwhelmingly wants Obama to win. McCain is 72..God forbid if something happen to him..Oh!Oh! here comes the hockey mom(she was booed by the hockey crowd in Philly). Can you imagine Palin as President! I am moving to Canada temporarily until she is removed. Heaven help us all and please save us from the Republicans.

All the people who vote for McCain/Palin should be sent to Alaska including Joe the Plumber(I think he told a lie) No Plumber makes more than $250,000 a year. But that is characteristic of Republicans. Redistribution of wealth is not Socialism it is common sense, if everyone is making enough money to live, eat, take care of the family, educate the children..then it would help the economy more than if only 5 -10% of people make money and the others are not doing too well..you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to understand that. Why are we in the situation we are in today it is because of poor distribution of the wealth. The rich get richer and the poor and middle class suffer. Obama is right..spread the wealth around. I do not mind giving $10 a month to a health fund so that all Americans can have health care..in the long run it will benefit everyone..but most of the people out there are selfish..We wasts more than $10 buying nonsense like cigarettes etc. Obama is smart, and bright. McCain is not! VOTE OBAMA AND LETS HAVE A BETTER AMERICA!

JOHN McCAIN – guilty of Violation of Ethics
SARAH PALIN – guilty of Violation of Ethics
TODD PALIN – unelected individual uses power of the governor to settle personal vendetta
CINDY McCAIN – busted stealing drugs from a charity to feed her own addiction
And the newest member of the club:
Joe the Plumber – unlicensed, non-tax paying “plumber” who lied about his income for the benfit of John McCain

McCain runs an ad with a white girl Paris Hilton and Obama in it…it’s called racist.
McCain runs an ad with a black man Franklin Raines and Obama in it….it’s racist.
McCain runs an ad with a white terrorist William Ayers and Obama in it….it’s racist.
So basically if you question Obama about anything you’re a racist.
I’m not a racist and I’m not voting for Barack Obama for POTUS.
I’m sick of black anger and there has been a lot of it from Obama and many of his supporters.
They’re some of the meanest and most intolerant people I’ve ever encountered.

I do not want a grumpy old man for president and a hockey mom for vice president(She was booed at the hockey game in philly) I want a bright, intelligent, articulate, harvard trained, top of his class, person for president. I heard that McCain was at the bottom of his class in the airforce and crashed his plane. Why does America like to choose inarticulate, at the bottom of the class people for president..I could never understand this…Why does America like to choose rich people to be president when most Americans are poor and Middle class..A man who owns 13 cars and 9 homes just cannot identify with the common man. Obama grew up poor/middle class so he can identify. McCain is a joke! Obama is the man that we need right now for these times. Heaven help us all and save us from the Republicans!

John McCain’s transition team leader (the person he hired to choose who will be in his cabinet) was a LOBBYIST FOR SADDAM HUSSEIN. John McCain is friends with G. Gordon Liddy, who was sentenced (and went to) Federal prison for his role in the Watergate breakout, and who advised the Waco crowd to shoot ATF agents. And then there are McCain’s ties to the Contras (and their death squads). Who here is palling around with terrorists? NOT “that one”…it’s “the other one”!

Joe Wurzelbacher didn’t give a speech or make a commercial. He asked a question. He stood on a rope line, and Obama picked him to ask it. The Tanning-Bed Media seems to feel that they have a duty to expose every last part of Wurzelbacher’s life, but that asking Obama to explain his political partnerships with Tony Rezko and William Ayers, and his long friendship and financial support of rabid demagogues Jeremiah Wright and Michael Pfleger, are not just out of bounds but downright racist.
So what have we learned from this episode?
1 Thou shalt not offend The One by asking him a question. Of any kind.
2 Anyone who questions The One will have to undergo a public pillorying of a kind unseen since the Red Scare, or perhaps the Inquisition.
3 The Tanning-Bed Media will happily participate in any inquisition, as long as it keeps them from investigating irrelevant issues like Obama’s ties to the Chicago Machine, William Ayers, ACORN, or his record on protecting infanticide.
Don’t ask questions. Don’t check the records of people running for political office, but do check the records of those who dare violate Rule #1. No dissent will be tolerated. Our political and media masters have spoken.

In this study, young competitive athletes who died suddenly were affected by silent cardiovascular diseases, predominantly consisting of cardiomyopathies, premature coronary artery disease, and congenital coronary anomalies. Therefore, sports activity was not per se a cause of the increased mortality; rather, it acted as a trigger of cardiac arrest upon those underlying cardiovascular diseases predisposing to life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias.
Just to point out to some of you that younger people do die.

Obama’s national healthcare program doomed from the start. It will never get off the ground. It is purely a sucker play to grab votes from the less educated.
Role of government in health care market:
The cost impact of a mixed public-private system is subject to debate. Free-market advocates point out that there is direct correlation between government’s health care spending and intervention in the health care market and increases in health care costs. Government intervention contributes to a “dysfunctional system of third-party payments” that removes the patient as a major participant in the financial and medical choices that affect costs. Increased utilization is indeed the primary driver of rising health care costs in the U.S., according to a recent study by PriceWaterhouseCoopers. The study cites numerous causes of increased utilization, including rising consumer demand, new treatments, more intensive diagnostic testing, lifestyle factors, the movement to broader-access plans, and higher-priced technologies. The study also mentions cost-shifting from government programs to private payers. Low reimbursement rates for Medicare and Medicaid have increased cost-shifting pressures on hospitals and doctors, who charge higher rates for the same services to private payers, which eventually affects health insurance rates.
As an example of how government intervention has had unintended consequences, in 1973, the federal government passed the Health Maintenance Organization Act , which heavily subsidized the HMO business model — a model that was in decline prior to such legislative intervention. The law was intended to create market incentives that would lower health care costs, but HMOs have never achieved their cost-reduction potential.
Piecemeal market-based reform efforts are complex. One study evaluating current popular market-based reform policy packages concluded that if market-oriented reforms are not implemented on a systematic basis with appropriate safeguards, they have the potential to cause more problems than they solve.

Dare to disagree with or oppose The One? Be prepared for an onslaught unmitigated by decency, inclusive principles, or restraint of any kind. We’ve catalogued the insults and degradation many times here : the comments that cursed our loved ones to die in botched back-alley abortions, the threats of righteous violence if obama loses, the by-now toothless accusations of racism (yet they still sting). We’ve been called witches, bitches, and c–ts — frequently and publicly. We watched how they portrayed Hillary, and we documented their pornographic degradation of Sarah Palin. (”my black brothers will gang rape Sarah Palin,” “f—ing whore,” “dominatrix,” “pom-pom girl,” “sex slave,” and of course “c–t” over and over again).
And now they savage S. Joseph Wurzelbacher, aka Joe the Plumber. Even Joe Biden is doing it. We’re told he’s stupid, ugly, racist, poor, dumb, a fraud, and a liar. He’s a guy so he probably won’t be gang-raped or figuratively f**cked by teh Boiz. He probably won’t be photo-shopped with a ball gag in his mouth being whipped by Markos in drag. That probably will never happen. Maybe Maureen Dowd will devote a column to how she’d never have sex with someone so poor. But probably the most humiliating thing he’ll have to live down is Diane Sawyer reminding him and millions of us that Joe the Plumber will probably NEVER make enough money to qualify for obama’s tax increases.
What a strange, strange beast the Democratic Party has become.
No one believed us when we claimed that Obama stole the caucuses with fraud and intimidation. And like Cassandra, we now watch as Obama’s Trojan horse unleashes ACORN to burn Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania down.
DEMOCRATS. Democrats did this.
And they continue to do it every day.
This is the new DNC, and it’s why we call them the DONC. They don’t

The states are doing just fine without Barack Obama’s National Healthcare Program. Keep the federal government in Washington, D.C, and out of the state capitols.
Some states have initiated programs to aggregate employer and employee purchasing power for purposes of buying health coverage. California formed a HIPC for small businesses (2-50 employees). The HIPC does not itself purchase coverage. Instead, it contracts with more than 20 health plans statewide, and employers that participate with the HIPC allow each employee to choose any health plan from those available in the area. Premiums are financed by employer (minimum 50 percent) and employee contributions. Similarly, Kentucky instituted a HIPC that is open to small businesses (up to 50 employees). The Kentucky purchasing arrangement also provides coverage for all state and school district employees and is open to municipalities and universities. The enabling legislation also requires that consideration be given to including Medicaid recipients at some future time.
These and other similar efforts–a number of which have been initiated by private employer coalitions rather than state government–have been able to make coverage available to a number of small businesses and their employers at rates that appear to be lower than what would otherwise be available. The lower rates can be attributed in part to aggressive negotiations with health plans regarding premiums and in part to lower administrative costs that result from centralized enrollment, premium collection and distribution, and lower marketing costs. But these programs’ success in expanding access to uninsured workers has been quite limited. The result is not surprising, however, given that employer participation is voluntary, and many employees cannot afford coverage (employers choosing to participate in California are responsible for contributing only half of the lowest-cost premium).
Such efforts may be particularly helpful in bringing down the cost of coverage for the smaller businesses that are likely to employ many of the people coming off welfare. Such businesses have often faced high health insurance premiums, in part because of the high administrative costs health plans incur in marketing to and servicing small employers.
Arrangements for aggregating purchase of coverage for such small firms, as in California and Kentucky, can reduce costs for such firms because the purchasing cooperative takes over some of the administrative functions and realizes economies of scale. As noted, premiums costs may still be unaffordable for many small firms and their employees, which means that state subsidies may be the only way to extend coverage. But the subsidy dollars will go further if employers and employees are purchasing through the HIPC or a similar joint purchasing arrangement, since more of the dollars go to pay for medical care rather than for administrative costs.
It is important to note that efforts of this sort that pool the purchasing power of many small businesses can be successful only if legislative rules governing the conduct of insurers in the small-group market constrain the behavior of all insurers to prevent them from skimming off the low-risk people. Essentially, these HIPCs cannot survive if they agree to take on all applicants, regardless of medical condition, unless other insurers are required to do the same. Otherwise, the HIPC will become the insurer of last resort and will get all the high-risk people that other insurers wish to avoid because they incur high medical bills.
The recently passed federal reform legislation provides much of the needed protection, particularly by mandating that insurers guarantee to issue coverage to all small-group applicants (after a waiting period for certain conditions for people who were not previously insured) and preventing insurers from dropping coverage for groups that have high-risk employees. But the federal legislation does nothing to prevent insurers from charging very high rates to higher-risk groups. If other groups can do this, HIPCs will be required to do so also to keep their rates competitive for lower-risk groups. States that have not already done so may need to pass legislation to address this issue if HIPCs are to be able to keep premium rates at reasonable levels for higher-risk groups.
The federal government does not have sufficient administrators for proper control of a national healthcare program. Look at the understaffed FDA and the amount of products latter found too dangerous for consumption. Look at the meat inspectors and the tons of meat that go by inspectors that cause illness and death. Look at the agriculture department and the salmonella on produce products. There can never be sufficient administrators to properly manage a national healthcare program.

Obama is out of touch with the real numbers. Obama figures are much lower to make you think the national healthcare plan is feasible. Another sucker play designed to get the vote of the less educated voters.
Statement attributable to:
Nancy Nielsen, MD
AMA President
“As our nation continues to face a crisis of about 46 million uninsured, many Americans need to look no further than their own families and friends, or neighbors to find someone without health insurance. The uninsured problem does not discriminate; it affects each and every one of us, and everyone deserves better than the status quo. As members of Congress and presidential candidates gather at the conventions, it is vital that they address this important issue.
“Many patients don’t have access to needed health care as the economy’s health declines. Employer-based health insurance is no longer an option for many workers and their families, as employment-based coverage continued to decline in 2007, dropping to 59.3 percent. Americans need more affordable, portable health insurance options.
“U.S. health care spending continues to climb, driving up premiums, and pricing many patients out of coverage. Uninsured patients often don’t get the preventive care they need leading to more difficult and more costly conditions to treat. A good first step to address health care costs is to cover all Americans, ensuring they have better access to health care.
“The AMA proposal to cover the uninsured is a public and private approach that will make needed changes to today’s system. We advocate for a shift in tax incentives for health insurance so lower-income Americans get money to purchase coverage. We also want insurance market reforms to provide individuals more choices and ensure coverage for high-risk patients.
Despite a presidential veto, H.R. 6331, the “Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008,” passed with wide, bi-partisan majorities in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. See how your senators and representative voted. This bill now becomes law.
This legislation replaces the 10.6% payment cut that went into effect on July 1 with a 0.5% update extension through December 31, 2008. For calendar year 2009, the update will be 1.1%. Other important provisions such as extending the GPCI floor on physician work were also included.
This 18-month reprieve will also provide time for Congress to work with physicians on developing a long-term solution to a payment system that all agree is fatally flawed.

Barack Obama, the national healthcare plan is not needed in Pennsylvania.
CHIP has expanded and more children are eligible. Don’t assume that you earn too much to qualify.
All uninsured children and teens not eligible for Medical Assistance have access to health insurance. It doesn’t matter how much money your family makes. Many will get it free. To Your children may be enrolled in Medical Assistance if your income is below the CHIP guidelines.
In Pennsylvania:
http://www.chipcoverspakids.com/
In Illinois:
http://health.illinois.gov/
There is no reason for a national healthcare program when the states have effective programs and can administer healthcare more effectively and at a lower cost then any high costing federal program.
Barack Obama does not know what is happening in his own state and around the country. Barack Obama is out of touch with the USA. For certain he can not really hope to administer foreign policy.

Why I am voting Democrat!
I’m voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending MY MONEY than I would. I think when you spread the wealth around it is good for everybody! It’s Patriotic!
I’m voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. All profits are evil and should be confiscated for Government Redistribution.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe that MORE Government regulations and higher taxes on Business will stop Business from exporting their jobs to Countries with LESS Government regulations and lower taxes.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe terrorists should be allowed to have trials in American courts. And be able to subpoena top secret documents, soldiers, government officials, etc. to cross examine for their defense. They should have ACLU lawyers who can help intimidate Americans who serve on the juries!
I’m voting Democrat because I believe in a FREE government health care system. I believe doctors, nurses, hospitals, drug companies, etc. will gladly donate their time, products, services, facilities, etc. for FREE and that will be a better system.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe in and support trial lawyers, frivolous lawsuits and outrageous jury verdicts.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe 9/11 was an inside job to con the American people to go to war for oil.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe social security is solvent and that there is a social security lock box and I don’t believe social security is a Ponzi scheme.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe Gay Marriage should be the law of the land and will probably produce better children.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe English should not be the official language of the United States. I don’t mind pushing one for English when I use the phone.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe partial birth abortion is okay but water boarding a terrorist is disgusting.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe having a domestic terrorist like Bill Ayers as a close friend is a good thing. It allows for great relations with foreign terrorists.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe MOST AMERICANS are bitter and cling to their guns and religion. Let’s rid our country of guns and religion!
I’m voting Democrat because I believe illegal aliens deserve all the rights of ordinary Americans plus some additional rights Americans do not have.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe groups like ACORN who register felons, drug addicts, wino’s, homeless drifters, illegal aliens, dead people, children, fictional Disney characters, etc. makes my vote count more.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe celebrating the winter solstice shows compassion for the small minority of people that do not celebrate Christmas.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe hard core criminal murders and rapists deserve life and that the innocent unborn deserve death. It’s a choice I can live with.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe Bush caused Hurricane Katrina and he blew-up the levies in the ninth ward of New Orleans.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe our soldiers are AIR RAIDING villages and killing innocent people.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe sex in the Oval Office with an intern is a private matter and that everybody lies under oath about sex.
I’m votin Demokrat becuse I wus edumkated at a publick sckrool.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe that any one who is not partaking in one of the many wonderful government programs obviously has too much money and should pay higher taxes.
I’m voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq the terrorists will be happy and now think of us as good people.
I’m voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as it does not offend people. Can’t we all just get along?
I’m voting Democrat because I believe oil companies’ profits are wrong. I believe higher taxes on oil companies will produce lower prices at the pump.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe we need to rid ourselves of dependency on foreign oil, BUT I AM AGAINST offshore drilling for oil and natural gas, drilling in Anwar, building nuclear power plants and clean coal technology.
And finally, I’m voting Democrat because I believe Reverend Wright when he said “GODDAMN AMERICA” and “OUR CHICKENS ARE COMING HOME TO ROOST”. Hey let’s make a comfortable nest for those chickens!
Why are you voting Democrat?
