Billionaire Dolphins Owner Wants to Sell Team Before Obama Takes Office and His Taxes Go Up

H. Wayne Huizenga — one of the richest men in America — wants to speed up his sale of 45% or more of the Miami Dolphins to Stephen Ross because he anticipates Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., will win and his taxes will go up, the Sun-Sentinel reports.

"I’d rather give it to charity than to him," Huizenga said. "If you do it this year or you do it next year, the difference is humongous because of the taxes."

I would REALLY love to see how much money Huizenga lost due to the collapse of the economy under the greed and corruption of many of his “friends in high places,” of which you can count on 90% or better being conservatives who are whining about the suffering they’ll endure under Obama.
I’d bet everything I have–which is about .000001% of his vast fortune–that he made WAY more money when Clinton was president and the government actually worked.
Better ‘gird your loins’ folks. Over the next eight years, as the economy turns around, the government begins to function again (as it will with actual, qualified people running it, instead of obstructionist cronies), and things overall improve…we’ll hear works like “socialist” until we puke.
A small price to pay to watch conservatism spasm and die in the puddle of urine that is right-wing ideology.

Obama’s plan is to raise capital gains on the highest income bracket back to 20% from 15%.
He also wants to eliminate capital gains on small businesses.

The sale of the Miami Dolphins would involve a collectible asset purchased before 1/1/2001. This would be a 28% tax item at the current rate.
From Obama’s tax plan:
Capital Gains: Families with incomes below $250,000 will continue to pay the capital gains rates that they pay today. For those in the top two income tax brackets – likewise adjusted to affect only families over $250,000 – Obama will create a new top capital gains rate of 20 percent. Obama’s 20%
rate is equal is the lowest rate that existed in the 1990s and the rate that President Bush proposed in 2001. It is almost a third lower than the rate that President Reagan signed into law in 1986.
Maybe you should read the tax guides, and not just watch those screaming memes (pun intended) on Fox News.

You may not realize this, but if Obama is elected he can get Congress to backdate all tax increases. If he takes office in January, by the end of February he can raise taxes on income earned as far back as January 1, 2008.
You think not? Backdating of tax increases is rare, but it has been done and it is perfectly legal. Obama may do this to pick up a larger capital gains tax on people who sell assets in 2008, like Huizenga.
You people with money — still want to vote for Obama? You think his crowd is going to thank you for bankrolling him? Forget it. Most of his supporters have nothing, and they want what you have. He will make sure they get it.

“Capital gains taxes aren’t progressive. There’s only short term and long term.
That’s it. There is no “highest bracket”.”
Short term gains are taxed at your income tax rate which is progressive.
Long term gains are what would be changed and other than being exempt from paying any long term gains tax below a certain income level, they are fairly flat tax.
From what I gather, Obama plans to raise that rate on only the top income bracket.

Capital gains taxes also apply to your home. Obama wants to tax the gain you make on the difference between what you paid for your home and what you sell it for. As it is now you have to gain over 500K as married and 250K as single. McCain doesn’t want to change that.
In this economic crisis Obama wants you to take more of a loss on your home that you aready have.

John: Contrary to your assumption–I am no where near “elite”…my family lives very soundly in the middle class. Until we married a few years ago, my husband and I were each single custodial parents–with absentee non-paying non-custodial parents…and while my husband was still “middle class” at that time–I most-assuredly was not.
And yet, I still did not want anyone else’s wealth “redistributed” to me. I had the “opportunity” to apply for some of the “aid” that was available–and quickly saw how punitive it truly is. You can live here–as long as your income stays under this threshhold. You can receive child care assistance–again if your income stays below a certain threshhold. Achievement is deincentivized. No thanks.

I am so glad that Obama’s mother (who once had to receive food stamps) did not ascribe to your philosophy. Those food stamps she used kept her baby healthy and now just look at him.
The first problem, as I see it, is that you lump everybody that needs a hand-up in with everybody looking for a hand-out. That shows a lack of compassion for others.
The most ironic thing about your view is that it is the one most often cited by the right-wing Christian movement. Christ Jesus was NEVER against helping others. He was, in fact, against greed and pumping one self up with pride by bashing others less fortunate.

Glad somebody else sees what’s up, too. In a way, Biden was correct when he said paying taxes is patriotic. Those that don’t pay taxes tend to be the loudest mouths about attacking some other country — they scream for protection as long as the wars are funded with other people’s tax money no doubt!

My mother was a Hillary delegate in WA state. She is also voting for Obama. But she would understand where you’re coming from for sure. She still loves Hillary. I’m not sure Hillary will run again, but she’s the obvious choice. Hopefully, she’ll take up power in the Senate. Personally I’d love to boot Pelosi and replace her with Hillary.
Dad is actually an Obama delegate in WA. But he would have gladly gone with Hillary over McCain any day.
Both were hard core Reagan Republicans in the 80′s. Now, they are completely disguted with the current Republican Party.
I was up in the air until after February when I knew the numbers wouldn’t work. After that, I was afraid the party would split and we’d hand the election back to the worst imaginable choice – Republicans. Shame we had two great candidates. (Great for different reasons)
The GOP no longer represents the middle class. It has abandoned it’s priciples. Frivilous spending, record borrowing, and policy to benefit only the wealthy is their creed now. McCain’s plan will actually cost more than Obama’s according to the Tax Center.
McCain and Plain represent the past. Neither can offer hope for this nation. Both seem consumed with division.
I’ve seen your posts. I’m sure it was hard for you to vote for Obama. But even if you have to look at from the lesser of two evils point of view, you did the 100% right thing. Thanks!

Common Sense most college students that do not live at home qualify for food stamps. i do since i am in school and i’am a single parent but i chose a part-time job instead. it will take me 1 year longer to finish school, but in the end i will know that i did it on my own without handouts.
obamas mom had the same choice she chose foodstamps which obama wears like a badge of honor.

Common Sense: My comments were not intended to disparage anyone in need of a “hand up”…but rather to point out that “the system” can be demotivating and demoralizing–which is most certainly not a “hand up”–but rather a “kick down”.
Telling someone that in order to keep the assistance they recieve (housing, food stamps, childcare, etc.) they must keep their income below a certain level is absolutely demotivating. Very few politicians talk about “that” group–and yet, I’d venture to guess that there are a large group of folks that fall into that crowd that really do not want the assistance from the government…nor is a $42 a month tax cut going to really help them much.
Do either of these candidates have the answers for these issues? As someone who was recently there…I do not think so. Nor does the vitriolic language spewing from BOTH campaigns and their supporters.

The tax plan suggested by Obama is what we had in the 90′s. That’s not “socialism”, it’s going back to an older tax structure. That’s it! As I recall, our nation was a hell of lot better off than it is now.
John McCain will spend this country into the ground. He cannot cut anyone’s taxes because he wants to keep the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy.
Changes proposed by Obama’s campaign would mean the national debt would grow by $5.7 trillion over 10 years, while proposals spelled out by McCain’s campaign would add $7.4 trillion, according to the Tax Policy Center.
If you add up proposals made in stump speeches, the total 10-year debt increase go down to to $5.4 trillion for Obama and up to $10.9 trillion for McCain.
McCAIN IS OUTSPENDING OBAMA AND HAS NO WAY TO GENERATE REVENUE BUT RAISE YOUR TAXES!

Here is a good example of why Obama’s plan won’t work. “The Rich” won’t pay.
Huizenga is just like everyone else who has a lot of money, and they will either find ways to not pay taxes, or they will make less money. That is what happened when Jimmy Carter raised taxes on “the rich.”
When the Government gets half of everything you make, you have half as much incentive to earn it.
Call taking money from a rich guy “investing” if you want to, but if there is no return, they won’t “invest.”

Wrong. Only lazy people think that way. As you can see, raising taxes on the rich to pay their fair share makes them more “charitable”. Same for the healthcare industry. We sponsor their research with tax breaks as they hire foreign labor. Once it is all done, they sell us their meds for astronimical profit — way more than most people can afford (especially older Americans).

Using the metric designed by the UN, the US ranks 12th. ALL of the nations with the highest overall standards of living have a mixture of both capitalism and goverment intervention.
And, if you didn’t realize this, the US has NEVER been a free market economy.It’s always had a mixture of economic theology. It’s just a matter of degree.
You guys are so willing to oversimply and get over dramtic about something that is a non issue. You take three words from an entire explaination and want to claim you understand his tax plan.
Obama does not propose government ownership of business. Never has. Just a more equitable tax system. The same tax system we had just 8 years ago.

There has been no curiousity exhibited by any media organization until now–even though Khalidi was Yassar Arafat’s spokesperson. They (the LAT) have not disputed the existance of the tape itself.

My 21 year old nephew just said almost the identical thing. He sees this as a potential turning point in American history.
I don’t remember so many young people actually caring about our politics until now. I missed the sixties, but since that time, it’s more-or-less been apathy from the under 25 crowd.
No one can deny Obama has inspired millions to take an interest. Some for, some against, but at least we care again.

To me, John McCain does not look well physically, mentally or emotionally.
He looked dreadful during some of the debates – off balance and almost unhinged at times.

A Veteran. That dog won’t hunt. Reagan raised the national deficit to its highest level in history (up to that time). George I did nothing to bring it down. Clinton slashed the deficit and everyone, in every income level did better under 8 years of Clinton. Goerge Bush has doubled the national debt – and NO ONE but the wealthiest 2% did better under Bush. After 8 years of Bush, the American middle class is not sure that it will ever be able to retire, people are losing their homes in record numbers and people don’t know how they are going to send their kids to college. Republicans are a disaster for the economy. Obama’s plans are not socialism, no matter what Miss Airhead in Saks says. They are comparable to the Clinton tax levels. Good riddance to Mr. Football. I hope he enjoys Cuba or wherever he is going.

couple of things michelle–first; i actually read the complete article by peter wallsten about the dinner. try that, instead just reading the sly insinuations made by the nro. you might find it enlightening. mccain brags about being able to “reach across the aisle” to find solutions. it seems to me that obama can reach further than just across party lines.
second; your daughter begged you to vote AGAINST someone? as opposed to voting FOR someone? and you are somehow proud of that? i hope that i am raising my children to be more positive as they face the future.

If McCain wants to argue about wealth distribution I want to see him defend all of these CEOs, who make 300 times what their workers make once you include their bonuses and their golden parachutes. Now tell me if they have done 300 times the work, especially since most of them are largely responsible for putting the economy in the mess that it is in. God forbid that companies give out decent pay to their workers instead, you know the ones that actually are buying stuff to drive the economy. Right now the wealthiest Americans make far more then the middle class than almost any time in American history. And don’t tell me they worked their way up. That may be true to some, but most are people with connections that obviously did not work their way up. If they had, maybe just maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess because they did their jobs.

I think that everyone can agree that the middle class is going to get screwed no matter who is going to be president. Congress is composed of 80% lawyers???? They write the laws and make loop holes in those laws so their rich/wealth millionaires can keep their monies. What I object to is the Dem. Congress making sure that you pay 40% on inherence. How is a person that inherent their family farm going to pay inher. tax when the farmer only nets 20,000 a year but has to pay 50,000 in inher. taxes that the Dems’ want to impose? So, anyone inherenting anything that their parents worked hard for will be taxes twice. Once when their parents made the money and paid income tax on the money and then a second time when their children are beneficaries of their will….

For the last 25 plus years, the wealthy in this country have benefited from tax-breaks given to them in the failed economic experiment known as “trickle down” economics or Reaganomics the theory of that was that the addional revenue generated by the wealthy would make up for the lowering of their taxes, so the government started borrowing money to take care of operations short-term. At the time that began, the national debt was seven billion dollars (1/2 of 1% of the U.S. GDP). At the time Reagan left office we were hovering close to one trillion dollars national debt (that’s 1,000 billion). Now two Bush’s and one Clinton (he was in the GOP pocket because he couldn’t keep it in his pants)later. We are 10 trillion in debt (70% of the annual U.S. GDP).
You see the Rich have not “grown” the economy the way they were intended to do. Instead of becoming innovative and investing in America and her workforce, they’ve gutted our industries and moved our jobs overseas. They don’t care as long as the money keeps flowing in. They’ve popped the bubble, time to go back to paying their “Fair” share. Don’t weep for them, after all they’ll still be making over $250,000 a year.
How many years does it take you to make that. It takes me ten years now thanks to the pitiful job I was able to get thanks to this economy (that’s about half of what I should be making, I was in management for 15 years and my house “was” paid off before the economy tanked).

If Tax Cut is given to the rich, what is it called – reversed socialism?
Under what category can we also put social security and welfare payments – Capitalism?
When Companies are being Nationalized and Wall Street is being bailed out, what system of Government is that, Communism?
If you wish to answer these questions, you’d need to rise above party affiliation so that you can have a clearer head to decipher the truth.
Taxes all over the world is a distribution of Wealth. Even if the Tax rate is proportional, higher income earners pay more proportionately and the taxes are used to provide Social Services to all and sundry.
I have never heard of a road being plied by the rich only because they pay more tax.
So all these talks about income re-distribution is a cacophonous sound of deceit with the aim of cashing on the ignorance of the few.

Instead of taking personal responsibility for your own situation, you hate the rich for being rich and look to our government as a “Robin Hood,” so you can get a little part of what they have even though you didn’t earn it and don’t deserve it. I’m not rich, but I have no debt other than student loans and my home. I have a real helpful suggestion for all of you who want to rob from the rich – go out there and get rich yourselves by your own merit. But first, go to Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University and sit through a 13-week course that will teach you how to do it!

I don’t understand some of these comments. Why does anyone think Mr. H’s money should trickle down to them? It’s HIS money isn’t it? Are they somehow entitled to it because he’s got more than they do? What’s with the wealth envy in this country? The rich provide jobs!

Alot of people don’t realize the long-term effects of an Obama vicotry. All they see is the short-term “I get more money” promise.
These financial giants need the cuts for the good of us all. I myself am greatful for Wayne Huizenga’s Blockbuster Video which for a few years allowed for me to work while I was in disability from a car accident.
Hell, we can all be like Huizenga, the opportunities exist. It’s up to us to make the intelligent, most educated decisions when it comes to our business. It’s the American dream after all. If Obama wins, and starts taxing the money away from the wealthier, there will be less services, less jobs, and may even result in less money in the economy. What would you do if you saw your government wanting to take your hard earned money?. Obama wins, our American dream becomes a a true American nightmare. And for what, couple G’s in tax refunds for the lower class.
If Obama wins and his proposed plans are executed, I’m rafting my ### back to Cuba. To live in socialism, I might as well go back to my old neighborhood.

I looked at Obama’s tax plan and most working guys and gals get a substantial tax break. The Republicans have promised me tax relief for years and I have seen nothing, except for the refund checks that were a great thing. It makes me sick that in a time of war that the wealthy are so unpatriotic by not wanting to support our troops and asking the government for more money. Everyone should pay their share. Most middle income people don’t realize they pay more taxes than Millionares. When you add the 25% tax rate with the Social security tax at 8% you are paying 33% and when you buy somthing you pay another 8% tax, unless it is stocks or property like rich people buy, so you pay 41% tax on your wages, much more than the 35% tax a Millionare will pay. It time for those making money on the backs of others, to quit saying they are such good patriotic americans and be patriots by funding our troops and caring for those that make them wealthy. You don’t make lots of money unless you have lots of people making it for you, respect those people or end up like Rome or the Czars or the British in 1776, remember what happened back then?

Huizenga must have sold his private jet. What’s the matter Harold Wayne – can’t brib politicians with w/private jetting to football games anymore like ya did when you courted Jeb for your own greedy gains? Jeb & George Bush sold every citizen out & illegally discriminated against them when Huizenga was allowed to buy Florida statue 324.021(9)for the company he then owned Auto Nation. Now thanks to greedy, gluttenous Huizenga auto rental companies are at a higher esteen level then your our police & fire profession als and since 2006 don’t have to pay one cent if the 90 years they rent to cause accidents which permanetly disable or kill our citizens. Oh and Harold Wayne “don’t take it. personally”.

If you elect Obama then you’re electing a man who will, with Pelosi and Reid, enact a welfare state. People won’t work to get ahead, because they’ll be monetarily penalized if they do succeed.
Obama will transform the US into Venezuela. Then all the people who voted for him will wonder what they did to deserve such action and will say, “I didn’t know.” We’re here to tell you, “Yes, you did. He said it all along.”
