But Wait Until You See the Solid Gold Parka

Politico’s Jeanne Cummings is reporting that the Republican National Committee "appears to have spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August. According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74. The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September."

The McCain-Palin campaign didn’t comment, but if campaign officials change their minds we shall be happy to update.

Why does a state Governor need a new wardrobe? Why does the RNC take Palin and spend $150.000 out of funds that could certainly be better spent? Isn’t it supposed to be about EXPERIENCE? Which Palin still says she has the most of!! HA!! She really thinks she is number one not McCain. I think she forgot which slot she is running for!! Lets pray for our country and all of us she goes home… AND SOON…

It is amazing the time given to digging up every detail you can find on Sarah Palin…….don’t you have something worthwhile and important to report to the American public…information we need…like Obama’s associations with domestic terrorists…that would concern me a little bit more than expense for wardrobe. You guys are persecuting Sarah Palin…and it is a hypocritical misuse and abuse of your profession. What happened to the good old days when you could trust journalists to be unbiased and fair in their reporting?

Posted by: equalityrpt | October 21, 2008, 9:42 pm 9:42 pm

I think if you gave equal time digging up offenses on Obama….I’m sure you could find some little itsy bitsy dirt. Be fair…give Obama equal negative investigation time!!

Hey Jake,
I spent five minutes digging on-line and already have something on Obama for you to investigate. On October 15, 2008 Michelle Obama spent $447.39 on room service lunch at the Waldorf Astoria hotel…for lobster hor douvres, lobster, Iranian cavier and champagne. Would you look into this, verify and give us an investigative report? A bit pricey, indeed…but after all they did raise 150 million in September!

Governor Palin’s changing wardrobe since her VP selection is not surprising given her flip-flopping nature.
There have been many statements made by Palin before she was nominated for the VP role that she later flip-flopped on. There is plenty of video footage out there to show this. Go to and you can see some of them. They have a lot of video footage of interviews and speeches.

And furthermore, my friends, this proves without a doubt that Sarah Palin is most certainly not a socialist. One could imagine her trying on furs and lace while sipping champaign at Saks Fifth Avenue and commenting, “I’ve got your wealth redistribution right here, Barack.”

The more these polls come out about how she’s the main reason why those voting for Obama chose not to vote for McCain, the more likely this election will kill her possible presidential ambitions in 2012 or 2016.

2-spent thousands of taxpayer dollars for family travel

3-collected thousands of dollars for per diem expenses while living at home

Just imagine how many of taxpayer dollars will be spent on her when she starts drawing from the federal budget.

So she has spent $150,000 or maybe much more. Just think what Obama would spend of your hard earned money if he was elected. He is already spending lots of money. Who is in his pocket?
He claimes that he will only raise taxes on those making $250,000 plus. Well if he taxed them 100% it would not even be close to what he wants to spend. And that would only last for one year they they would be out of money and poor. Will Obama then tax who to give to this new poor group.
Do not be fooled by this sham artist.

Hi Concerned Ohio
This is not a rumor. It was on about 40 minutes ago on CNN. The total was $21,000. The republican analyst said it’s not a big deal–people do it all the time. So, we have a potential VP who abuses power (eithin the confines of the law)and uses tax payers’ money for her own personal gain. Wow! Just think McCain said she’s a role model for women. I guess she is if your aspiration in life is to become a crimnal and go to prison because that’s exactly where that type of behavior will take you. She should be made to pay back that $21,000.

so whats Palin supposed to do? go shopping for clothes at K-mart? i for one cannot see why a potential VP of the US should not have a classy wardrobe. she did nothing illegal, so whats the problem? there are perks that go with government service. since when is it wrong to take advantage of them? its not like 95% of the posters here would’nt do the same.

Posted by: jeff m | October 21, 2008, 11:32 pm 11:32 pm

Politicians do have to spend tons of money on clothing while campaigning. This amount seems exorbitant, but candidates can’t travel to multiple locations per day, and then different cities and states within a week, wearing the same clothing. (Not a lot of time for dry cleaning runs!) Photos are taken at every juncture. I’m sure if we had data on what any of the three other candidates spend, we’d see similiar numbers.
My only criticism is, if you’re going to spend $150k on clothes and accessories, at least look like Cindy McCain. Now talk about a class act! She looks like a million bucks every time the camera hits her. I wonder if she actually spends a million bucks to look that way??? St. John isn’t cheap!

Check how much money Obama gave to Wright’s place of hatred.
Obama gave Wright money to keep saying our chickens came home to roost on 9/11.
Obama gave Wright money to keep giving awards to Farakkan.
Obama gave Wright money to keep saying zionism is racism.
After Wright said all these things Obama gave Wright a check of 20,000.
Worst is Obama used taxpayer money to give Rezko 14 million in contracts.
Obama uses taxpayer money and then gets a sweetheart land deal in return from Rezko.
This is a huge difference the RNC isn’t from your taxes.
Obama gave contracts worth 14 million to rezko with your taxes.
Obama gave millions to pfleger with your taxes.
Obama gave 14 million in your money to rezko then got help from rezko in a shady land deal where a bank employee was fired for blowing the whistle.
I give up. Obama does a land deal with rezko who Obama had used taxpayer money for contracts.
Obama also used earmarks for a relative of Michelle Obama and her hospital employer and then her salary was doubled.
How many average working americans can give Rezko 14 million in earmarks and then have Rezko help him buy a 1.6 million dollar home while Rezko was under federal investigation from patrick fitzgerald.
There is a huge double standard in this country.
Obama uses taxpayer money for favors and the media goes soft while Palin gets hit hard and destroyed.
I am so sick of the biased coverage in our nation it is a travesty.

You are now not much more than tabloid journalism. Fully 45% of your news is in running with The Enquirer.

Hey John! If Sarah doesn’t work out, pick me! I could sure use some nice fancy new clothes…but hey, I can’t even afford a single pair of new shoes for the fall….gonna make do with what I have from last year. And can’t even wear my running shoes because of a painful torn ligament in my ankle that I can’t get repaired because I have no health insurance and sure as h*** can’t afford any. And all you sour grapes griping about the bill…you have to remember, a lipstick from Neiman Marcus or Saks is gonna be expensive! (probably more than my electric bill for the entire winter). Oh, but the lady’s looking sweet…it’s so important that she be pretty, cuz after all that is why John picked her to be his running mate, right?

Oh, Jeff.
I can see your tears of defeat rolling down my monitor while listening to you whine and lie.
Please tell me who told you all that BS stuff about Obama’s donations to Wright.
Please share it with all of us.
You sound more upset about an African American getting elected than you do about your own candidate losing.
Your candidate lost the election, as polls are showing, because his first decision as president was choosing an unqualified running mate.

Obama used taxpayer money to get a favor from Rezko.
Obama gave Rezko 14 million in earmarks.
In return Obama got a shady land deal from rezko buying a 1.6 million dollar home.
Big difference RNC money wasn’t from taxpayers.
Obama’s 14 million to rezko in earmarks was from taxpayers.
Obama did a shady land deal with rezko wwhile he was under federal investigation for influence peddling.
There is a huge double standard in america.
In this country Obama can do anything while the media is out to destroy McCain who gave so much to his country.
The media is 85 percent democrats. That isn’t good for a democracy. This is when you get one party monopoly. There is no balance in the media coverage.

Posted by: Jeff | October 21, 2008, 11:43 pm 11:43 pm

For all the talk by the Democrats about sticking to the issues, this is a big deviation from the talking points of the Obama campaign. How is Palin’s wardrobe relevant? So Republicans cannot mention Obama’s 20 year relationship with Ayers, but Dems can look into Palin’s wardrobe? Doesn’t make sense. Besides I bet Obama’s suits are pretty expensive, those cost over $500 a pop I bet. Regardless this is irrelevant. Double standards by the liberal media- I have come to expect it. What reporter goes to college to write these types of less than stellar articles? Besides, I bet the Dems would be happy to know that she paid sales tax on the goods she bought and equally, she was stimulating the economy in the local areas she shopped.

Biden got his 4 million dollar compound in deleware for half price from a credit card executive.
Biden later championed their bill.
Biden’s son works at the credit card firm as a lobbyist making millions where Biden got the sweetheart deal on his compound for half price.
It seems in America that Biden can do anything and get no press attention.
There is a huge double standard in this country and it will never change with the liberal stanglehold of our media.

I love it when the twit neocons accidentally misspell Obama’s name. They haven’t realized that John VC Charlie McCain has had them duped and brainwashed. Here all the time they thought he was a war hero when heis really is a VC. Can’t deny it as he spent 5 years living in North Viet Nam. Need investigations, soon. Can call him McVc.

Andrew,
Would you have rather had George Bush Sr or Dukakis during the gulf war.
Bush Sr had a dud as a VP.
VP’s do nothing.
Biden is out of it. Biden tells people he has a higher IQ than them.
Biden plagerized.
By the way I love the Palin is unqualified talk when Obama is unqualified.
Obama had never been to western europe before this july. McCain has gone dozens of times every year to nato security conference meetings.
Obama has never been south of the border.
Obama never served in the military.
Obama never ran a business, never was on an economics committee, never was governor.
What hypocrites they attack Palin’s qualifications but say they will vote for Obama.
Palin is on the bottom of the ticket you have someone unqualified at the top of the ticket.
Obama as CIC is a disgrace. He said all our soldiers were doing in afghanistan was killing civilians and air raiding villages.
Obama has no qualifications to be CIC.
Obama has no business qualifications.
The guy was a communitiy organizer for heavens sake dealing with people like wright and rezko and calling them his mentors and writing books about them.
Obama was trying to force banks to give out bad loans.
Obama is unqualified and he is on top of the ticket.
Even Biden said Obama is so unqualified that nations will try and take advantage of him.
Obama has no right to be CIC.

Who really cares at this late in the game. Obama’s clothes don’t come from AWal Mart or JC Pennys. Get over it. I have to agree with the Republicans on thier questions regarding the media. Our County is at its lowest point in history and you find the time to spend on reporting how much the Republican party is spending on thier V.P. Get real, I say we the people should start sending in letters of protest to the media’s advertisers. Money seems to count more now than ever. Hit the news meadia in their pockets and see what happens. I am so ashamed of being a Democrat and glad my late mother is not here to see all of this mud slinging. Chez, what are you in the media going to cover after the election is over. Oh that is right, you will cover the election and explain to us what went wrong and how for the next 2 months. Then you can cover Bush leaving the White House. But guess what, a lot of us will find new ways of obtaining our news – like reading our local papers.

Would McCain run the country like he does his campaign? Reminds me of the Gore campaign in 2000. All over the place and no focus. Who is in charge? Does the quality of a campaign reflect the leader? Do McCain and Palin just not ‘get it’? some may see these purchases as ‘fine’ and that’s OK but the optics, for the so-called hockey mom, are terrible. We know that Palin may not have a brain but where is McCain’s? He’s a very smart man who is coming across as out of touch.

Jeff, please stop lying.
Obama’s Qualifications:
Civil Rights Attorney: Class of ’91
University of Chicago Law School, Educator of Constitutional Law: 12 Years
Illinois State Senator: 8 Years
U.S. Senator: 3 Years
Committees: Foreign Relations; Environment and Public Works; Veterans’ Affairs; Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
Official Travel: Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa.
Obama has sponsored 136 bills since Jan 4, 2005, 2 have become law. This figure does not include bills to which Obama contributed very substantially as cosponsor, such as the Coburn-Obama Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 or the Lugar-Nunn Cooperative Proliferation Detection, Interdiction Assistance, and Conventional Threat Reduction Act of 2006.

Posted by: ken | October 21, 2008, 11:58 pm 11:58 pm

Obama:
ICE agents are terrorizing illegals in their raids.
Think of this Obama going after patriotic public servents who serve under a president for arresting people breaking the law.
Obama: voted for a homeowner to keep a felony for protecting his family and home against a robber. Obama doesn’t believe you should have a handgun in your home to protect your family against a robber.
Obama: Said our troops in afghanistan were only air raiding villages and killing civilians. Wrong the taliban are the ones who go into villages and kill civilians and use the rest as shields as they fire rockets at our soldiers from villages.
That comment should disqualify Obama who never served as CIC.
The soldiers want McCain 3 to 1 over Obama. McCain’s two sons are serving in the military.

This report is telling as to the tactics of the McCain campaign; revealing something into the reasoning behind their perplexing choice of Palin for VP. It’s all about image. They wanted, I believe, the IMAGE of a woman, in part to try to capture the Hillary voters. They put her out there with this image, to try to draw crowds and attract attention, withholding her from giving interviews, so as not to blow the cover–the fact that she has very little substance to match her style. So the image is the end-all in this pick of a VP, and this report simply reinforces that. They spent an unholy amount on her image. Luckily, the American people are sick of substance-free image-only politics, and are hungry for red meat. We want issues, we want solutions. This is why McCain is tanking now that people have seen the debates: he has very little to say as far as specifics, and can only attack his opponent.
It is interesting to watch this unfold. As an Ohio voter, I am happy to say that I have already cast my vote by asentee ballot, and no amount of money spent on dressing up or accessorizing what amounts to a dearth of real ideas–is going to change my mind.

So you Obama supporters want one party control.
Obama most liberal member of the senate.
Pelosi with huge majority in the house.
Reid with 60 senate seats filibuster proof majority.
McCain is needed to veto pelosi and Reid’s spending. Obama will go along.
You need oversight in contress.
Obama will have a liberal media not checking him.
With McCain there would be compromises with judges because dems have so many senate seats. With Obama he can pick any judges.
Obama said he would also use the justice department to free the Jenna 6 after Jesse Jackson prodded him.

– Rumor has it she also made Alaska foot the bill on quite a few excursions for herself and her family. –
And shown to have abused her power when governor, violated state ethic laws, and how is Alaska economically?
Of the 50 states, Alaska ranks No. 1 in taxes per resident and No. 1 in spending per resident. Its tax burden per resident is 2 1/2 times the national average; its spending, more than double. The trick is that Alaska’s government spends money on its own citizens and taxes the rest of us to pay for it.
Alaska also ranks No. 1, year after year, in money it sucks in from Washington. According to the Tax Foundation, Alaska ranked 18th in federal taxes paid per resident ($5,434) but first in federal spending received per resident ($13,950). Its ratio of federal spending received to federal taxes paid ranks third among the 50 states, and in the absolute amount it receives from Washington over and above the amount it sends to Washington, Alaska ranks No. 1.
America doesn’t want her in the White House, and even Alaska doesn’t want her back.. Maybe we can get her elected over in Iraq.

Economic Problem:
Massive number of Home Foreclosures
Economic Consequence of Massive Number of Home Foreclosures:
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, government-sponsored Home loan morgage corporations, lost $14 billion. Both corporations were bailed out by the government.
Cause of Massive Home Foreclosures:
Banks/Corporations lent to borrowers who had poor credit, income, and job history. Bad loans.
MCCAIN’S CAMPAIGN MANAGER RICK DAVIS PUSHED FANNIE MAE AND FREDDIE MAC LOANS
After running McCain’s failed 2000 presidential campaign,[2] Davis became the head of a group called the Homeownership Alliance, a Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac advocacy group. Its website said that the organization was dedicated to “exposing and defeating trends that would harm consumer access to the lowest-cost mortgage option.”[3]
MCCAIN’S CAMPAIGN MANAGER RICK DAVIS RECEIVED PAYMENTS from Freddie Mac UNTIL AUGUST 2008
In September 2008, the New York Times reported that Davis Manafort had been paid $15,000 per month by Freddie Mac, for “consulting”, from the end of 2005, when Davis stopped being head of the Homeownership Alliance, until August 2008; payments stopped when Freddie Mac was taken over by the federal government. The Times said that “Davis took a leave from Davis Manafort for the presidential campaign, but as an equity holder continues to benefit from its income.”[9]

Alaska is our largest state. Of course there is a travel budget for the governor. If you want to see a non-ethical traval budget, look at high-level business men and perhaps maybe some guys from Freddie and Fannie.

2. What is the only National Guard Unit on permanent active duty?
49th MISSILE DEFENSE BATTALION OF ALASKA NATIONAL GUARD
3. Who is the Commander in Chief of the 49th Missile Defense Battatlion of Alaska National Guard?
GOVENOR SARAH PALIN
4. What U.S. govenor is routinely briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security and counter terrorism?
GOVENOR SARAH PALIN, ALASKA
5. What U.S. govenor has a higher classified security rating than either candidate of the Democrat Party?
GOVENOR SARAH PALIN, ALASKA

1. Obama made a great deal of money from his books, which he writes himself, not with a ghost writer like McCain. He didn’t have to spend campaign money or his senator’s salary to afford the vacation.
2. How can you compare a $350.00 dinner, which is not surprising in New York, to $150,000 in clothes. Are you insane? Furthermore, many reports say that Michelle Obama wasn’t even in New York at the time. Michelle never claimed to be an “average” American. Sarah Palin has always claimed to be like “Joe Six Pack” a regular “hockey mom.” How many hockey moms do you know who earn that much money in a year, much less who spend that much money on clothes.
You can try to change the subject and blame the Obamas, but this is all on Palin.

It has been pretty clear since Palin came on the scene that she was spending major $$ on the clothes. Yes, she looks fantastic, but this is not the point. What a perfect image of the far right. Proclaim to be for Joe the Plumber while spending what most people make 3 years on Valentino and Versace for your “image.” No, this is not wasteful spending. Spending money on early childhood education and healthcare, that is wasteful spending. Wake up people.

I LOVE how the moronic red staters always support the Republicans no matter WHAT they do. I think the fact that Palin used her position in Alaska like a debit card, dragging her kids everywhere with her for no reason. And may I add “amending” the receipts AFTER McCain asked her to be VP. Just so they copuld see Todd in a snowmobile race or what not…Something smells rotten in Denmark, no? And now this info. Madam Palin is a wolf in sheep’s clothing (very expensive clothing!)
First “Troopergate”, then “Librariangate”, then “travelgate”, and now “wardrobegate”. Not to mention the whole “Pregnancygate”.
Do we need THIS much scandle ALREADY? Even BEFORE they are in office? (not that they will, unless we have “votergate”…

Di, you are spreading complete lies regarding the Alaska National Guard and Sarah Palin’s role in governing it. Here is the real truth straight from the actual commander of the Alaska National Guard — its Adjutant General, Major General Craig Campbell:
– “But, in an interview with The Associated Press on Sunday, [Cambpell] said he and Palin play no role in national defense activities, even when they involve the Alaska National Guard. The entire operation is under federal control, and the governor is not briefed on situations.” [The Associated Press, 8/31/2008]
– “And while the Alaska National Guard operates a launch site for a US anti-missile system at Fort Greely, about 100 miles south of Fairbanks, the Alaskan governor is not in the site’s chain of command and has no authority over its operations, according to Maj. Gen. Craig E. Campbell.” [Boston Globe, 9/3/2008]
– “Campbell also said that Palin has authority over the National Guard’s domestic missions — such as fighting wildfires and rescuing stranded residents, but that she has a limited role in determining how the forces are trained or equipped.” [Boston Globe, 9/3/2008]

People need to wake up. Obama is not talking about taking Joe the Plumbers money and giving it to people without jobs. That is ridiculous and untrue. He is talking about Mega rich people who are raking in obscene profits while paying their workers minimum wage. If they complain too loud about the low wages, they look for workers in India or China to do the work so they can make even higher profit.
Think about the Walmart hiers making billions a year while their workers can’t pay rent. Think about mortgage and finance CEO’s with paychecks of 487 million over three years while they rape homeowners. Think about Oil execs making 500 billion a year in profit while they bleed America dry.
Wake up people. These mega rich 1-5% don’t let ANYTHING trickle down. They rape the American worker for everything they can and they DON’T PAY TAXES! They write off losses, find every loophole and then have folks like McCain subsidize them. AND YES … paying taxes is patriotic!! It is how we fund America. The problem is that the middle class carries the burden while the mega-rich carry off the rewards.

Did you see her wearing that bright red patent leather designer jacket on Monday? Puh-lease honey, you hardly represent the people.

Posted by: Kate | October 22, 2008, 1:17 am 1:17 am

why can’t she just wear suits and clothing that she already has in her closet at home? She is not poor and therefore surely has work clothes in her closet already, after being a mayor and govenror..
It seems to me that Sara Palin would be a better first lady than vice president or president… because its clear that at the beginning of her canidacy- she was a bullshitter and didn’t really know what she was talkinga about (i.e. the Katy Couric interview) She was more a cheerleader for McCain than vice pres material… and since then she has been trained more and educated more in what to say and not to say so her interviews and speeches are getting better.
so,therefore, she has taken a quick course in being a vice pres or pres.
We can’t have a woman up there who learned the job through home tutoring just a few months prior to the election.

I wish she would go back to Alaska, this is ridiculous. Most Americans can not afford to buy a pair of shoes. McCain goes and picks her for VP and enables her to spend all this money on her wardrobe and her family and it’s ok.McCain complains about how much Obama has raised, go figure. He could have spent some of her wardrobe money on campaigning. This is ridiculous. Remember when you filed your taxes and your tax preparer asked you if you wanted to contribute to the Presidential election???? So taxpayers if you selected yes, you are paying for her wardrobe. Palin has been on the campaign trail for less than two months… and the McCain camp has already spent $150,000.00 on her wardrobe makeover? That’s more than a lifetime’s worth of clothing allowance for most of us. In these days of such painful economic woes, an expenditure of that size is not just OBSCENE and IRRESPONSIBLE, it’s a slap in the face to their donors. And it certainly doesn’t convey the message that McCain or Palin understands the middle class and blue-collar family’s plight. Reminds me of AIG executives taking a fabulous holiday with the bail-out money they were given.

I’ve been telling myself that Sarah Palin looks fantastic in those public events. Now, it makes sense, those clothes are from high end shops such as Neiman Marcus.
Actually, I think she would look good too, if her clothes are from Target.
This expensive clothing business should not be an issue if they are paid by her own money or by some private money. However, if the clothes are paid by the McCain compaign (assuming from the $84 millions public fund), then it does not square well with Palin’s claims of being a cost cutter on public wastes or an “authentic” middle class American. After all, no middle class American family would have money to spend $150K on clothing in about 2 months.

Why are you all so afraid of Sarah Palin?
She could wear hairshirts and dungarees and would still look great…but then you bitches would be baying about how disrespectful her style of dress is!
Are you jealous that YOUR candidate
wasn ‘t clever enough to pick a runningmate who has benefitted each and everyone of her constituents with an annual stipend paid for by BIG BUSINESS?
Are you jealous that Sarah Palin has the gumption to try to get the trooper who tazered her eleven year old nephew kicked off the force?
(Down here in the lower 40, we would call that child abuse! Do you think it’s any less wrong up there?)
Her only wrongdoing was putting the firing of this man WHO STILL HAS NOT BEEN FIRED into the hands of the police!
Until Obama’s goons went up to Alaska, this woman had an 80 percentg approval rating.
Your sweet talking Chicago Politician couldn’t have THAT… so he pulled out all stops to pluck whatever dirt .. verified or not.. that he could, and sprinkled it all around the media.
He’s an old hand at this; he did the same thing with Hillary!

Posted by: what happened to barry? | October 22, 2008, 1:44 am 1:44 am

I think it’s fine that the Republican National Committee bought Sarah Palin new clothes to wear while campaigning. (I’m a Democrat, by the way.) She’s very much in the public eye as she attends rallies and gets photographed every day. However, given that there are only about 60 days between her nomination and the election, this does work out to $2,500 per outfit (assuming she never wears the same item twice). Those are some pricey clothes! But it’s part of the campaign process. If the Republican campaign is willing to spend this amount on clothes instead of airing a few more nasty commercials, that’s totally their choice. I don’t think less of Sarah Palin on this one.

Posted by: amigan | October 22, 2008, 1:51 am 1:51 am

For those wondering how much the other candidates spend on their clothing, the answer is that we don’t know because no other candidate has their clothing paid for by their campaign.
In fact, Palin is dangerously close to crossing the legal line here; the laws are quite clear that campaign funds can’t be used to purchase clothing. So, the McCain campaign has to call this a loan — although I’m a little unclear on what the difference is between owning the clothes and just wearing them all the time.
And $150,000 — really? I mean, that’s how much it costs to send your kid to Harvard for four years. And she can spend that on clothing in a month and a half?

Posted by: Davey | October 22, 2008, 1:55 am 1:55 am

So if this is a spruce up for the election, when they lose, she should donate the clothes to that orgainzation that provides business clothes to poor women who need outfits for interviews, or auction them off and donate the proceeds to charities that support teenage mothers! That would be impressive!

AP INVESTIGATION: Palin charged state for children’s travel, later amended expense reports
Gov. Sarah Palin charged the state for her children to travel with her, including to events where they were not invited, and later amended expense reports to specify that they were on official business.
The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel.
In all, Palin has charged the state $21,012 for her three daughters’ 64 one-way and 12 round-trip commercial flights since she took office in December 2006. In some other cases, she has charged the state for hotel rooms for the girls.

No one says that Palin needs to shop at walmart or target but the numbers for clothing thrown around are ridiculous! I always look fashionable, shop at better stores and don’t pay nearly those numbers. Funny thing? Nowadays because of the economy you can get lots of good clothing for very little money. What we object to is not that she spends the money; it’s her hypocripsy.

If Obama wanted to emulate McCain’s attack ads, we would hear robocalls in the Heartland informing America’s patriots that McCain: a) was in the pocket of former Lincoln Savings & Loan president and criminal Charles Keating; b) was buddies with fellow criminal Republicans Ted Stevens, Tom Delay, Scooter Libby, Trent Lott, Jack Abrahamoff, Don Young, Larry Craig, Mark Foley…etc; c) accepted political donations from the Watergate criminal G. Gordon Liddy; d) picked a runningmate mired in scandal (Troopergate) and has acted “unethical” according to her own people; e) gave up information to his communist captors in North Vietnam, whereas other American prisoners did NOT; McCain has a lot to answer for, but Obama hasn’t stooped to that level. You can’t call yourself a patriot while voting for criminals.

And now this?

I said it first right here on an ABC blog soon after Palin was selected: “take the ‘l’ out of Palin and you well see that Palin will be the Pain in McCain’s campaign.” Before her selection by McCain, I avidly campainged against Obama. Palin, however, has made it perfectly clearthat McCain selected her to complement him on such issues as energy. In one of her speeches Palin even admitted that McCain selected her to take the lead on certain issues such as energy. The most important function of the Vice President, however, is to become President if for whatever reason the President cannot act – thus, the Vice President must be able to take the lead in all the issues confronting a President. The Vice President should not be selected to COMPLEMENT the President but to REPLACE him if necessary. Palin has seen the writing on the wall: “Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States of America.” She wants to have something to remember her failed run as Vice President and a huge, expensive wardrobe fits the bill. After all, Alaskans have now learned how much she has illegally charged them so a wardrobe funded by the citizens of Alaska is out of the question given the scrutiny she has now received.

Is this all you have to write about? Who gives a crap how much is being spent on her wardrobe. How many millions has Obama spent on his campaign feeding people lies? He seems to be having a hard time leaving the campaign trail to be with the woman he says made him who he is today. If my grandmother was on her death bed, I’d be with her rather than worrying about if I was going to win an election. Shows how important his “white grandmother” really is.

Michelle Obama chose a small local business woman to design her clothes. Sarah Palin chose Saks Fith Avenue (of Wall Street), Neiman Marcus and Macy’s to pay for clothes using $150,000. So much for helping small businesses Sarah! Wonder what “joe the plumber” would think about that?!

Hey Jeff! Our soldiers aren’t just killing civilians in Afghanistan, today they killed 9 Afghan troops. This stuff happens all the time. You’re misquoting Obama, but why do I bother to mention it, there’s probably no way a fact could penetrate your brain.
Regarding Palin’s wardrobe, this is a petty attack. But Obama isn’t responsible for it. (He can afford to buy his own clothes because he wrote two bestsellers.) It seems like the press really despises Palin. It’s an emotional thing, and probably it’s because she won’t talk to them. They feel insulted and neglected. Reporters are just people.

I shouldn’t have said that Obama’s Toot isn’t dying. She has more wrong with her than the broken hip, and is going downhill. I didn’t mean to be rude and was only suggesting that her death may not be imminent. Barack has said that his biggest regret is not having been with his mother when she died–very suddenly, he had expected her to live for at least a couple of months–and he got there too late. He doesn’t want to make the same mistake again. Madelyn talked to her brother on the phone Monday, and he told reporters that she hated being in the hospital, and was very unhappy with the condition she’s in. Going blind is one of the things happening to her.
I was reacting to the poster who said, “If my grandmother was on her death bed, I’d be with her rather than worrying about if I was going to win an election. Shows how important his “white grandmother” really is.” “

Obama in Hawaii to deal with effort to gain access to his birth records!
EMERGENCY PETITION FOR WRIT OF MANDAMUS
INTRODUCTION AND PRELIMINARY STATEMENT
The question of the authenticity and public availability of the birth certificate of Senator Barack Obama (hereinafter “Obama”) has become a source of increasing embarrassment for Hawai’i Government.
Although Obama has purportedly posted a copy of his birth certificate on his own web site, and others claim to have posted other versions, Obama refuses to allow public access to the official records of the State of Hawaii.
Petitioner is an author and columnist who came to Hawai’i to do research on Obama’s years in Hawai’i. After arriving in Honolulu, Petitioner decided he needed a copy of the original birth certificate, as well as any official files relating to the issuance of said certificate.
The Executive Branch Department of Health has repeatedly and egregiously mischaracterized the Hawai’i statute governing access to birth certificates, and did so again on October 17th in a statement to the Honolulu Advertiser.
Petitioner applies to this Court for an appropriate writ, and offers two separate avenues of potential relief for the Court to consider.

The GOP can’t spend $150,000 to dress their candidate, but the Obama camp can spend $600mil on campaigning? Who is paying for Obama’s trip to Hawaii on Thursday to take care of his BC? Yeah we know why he is really going!

Since her selection as John McCain’s running mate, the Republican National Committee spent more than $150,000 on clothing and make-up for Gov. Sarah Palin, her husband, children, and even her infant son, it was reported on Tuesday evening.
That entertaining scoop — which came by way of Politico –
It was revealed that Palin’s fashion budget for several weeks was more than four times the median salary of an American plumber ($37,514). To put it another way: Palin received more valuable clothes in one month than the average American household spends on clothes in 80 years. A Democrat put it in even blunter terms: her clothes were the cost of health care for 15 or so people.

Concerned in Ohio,
I am going to take your comment seriously, and not as sarcasm.
As governor it has been reported that Sarah made $125,000 a year. Plus she charged the state almost $300/day to stay in Wasilla when she was not in Juneau. Given that kind of income, she hardly qualifies as the “middle class” you are thinking of.
You can buy very nice clothes with that kind of money. However, $150,000 of tax payers’ money for clothes and accessories for herself AND HER FAMILY is what the fuss is really about.

Posted by: kathy | October 22, 2008, 6:38 am 6:38 am

It’s more an indictment of McCain than of her. Sure, she’s ambitious. But who wouldn’t take the chance to run for VP? Exactly what needs to be front and center of every newspaper today. The Republican voters, YPM (Young Political Majors), has been caught at voter fraud.
CNN is too stuck on ACORN to report on YPM. YPM falsely registered voters, double-registered and paid for voters to register. YPM also “slammed” voters by changing their political affiliations from democrat to republican — without the voters knowledge.

I’m an Alaskan (99705) and although we don’t want Palin back, I wouldn’t wish her or her family on the rest of the nation. This “hockey mom” and “joe six-pack” are worth over a million. Their home in Wasilla is worth more than $500,000, they have two vacation homes, a float plane, etc – you know, just the average family. She has said that she an Todd struggled, wondering how they could afford health care – also not true. Todd is 1/8 Yupik eskimo, and up here that’s like waving a platinum Visa card. Todd and the kids get free healthcare as well as shareholder checks from big oil (all natives do). Here’s the deal – I don’t care what she owns, what she spends, or where she lives – but she’s a liar. John McCain wears $500 shoes, but he pays for them himself and doesn’t lie about it. I’m sure that the Obama’s wear clothes and shoes that are far more expensive than you or I purchase – but they pay for it themselves and they don’t lie about it. See a theme? Palin has charged our state with nearly $25,000 in travel expenses for her kids , and doctored the expense reports to say that the kids were on “official business” She’s a liar. I remember her when she was just Sarah Heath, a really bad sports reporter – but at least then she wasn’t costing Alaskan citizens money. She brags about selling off the state plane – yeah, she did. AT A LOSS TO THE STATE. Good call, Sarah. She has sent thousands of Alaskan gas line jobs to Canada, abused her power, violated ethics codes, and is basically drunk on seeing her face on the cover of magazines. Folks, she is simply NOT ready or qualified to be VP. It’s laughable when posters here say that of you don’t like Palin it’s because you’re jealous of her “brains and beauty”. She placed third in a Miss Alaska pageant, came back the next year trying to compete as Miss Big Lake and didn’t make the top ten. We’ve seen her struggle to string together a coherent sentence while trying to stick to her flashcard talking points – I just can’t find anything to be jealous about. Besides, I’d rather have a really ugly, but wise VP any day. What do looks have to do with being qualified? Those posts are merely the last gasps of a dying campaign that’s out of ammunition. Sorry folks, it’s over. Obama-Biden ’08.

I want a story about Joe Biden’s comments that Barack Obama is going to be tested within the first 6 months of his presidency and his response will not be one that will accepted by America. What does this mean? Maybe he will actually make a deal with terrorists. Let’s stick to the issues, and forget about Palin’s wardrobe, which probably provided to her by the Labels, much like wardrobe and athletic wear is provided to atheletes who are sponsored by Nike.
So please, let’s stick to more important issues.

The same people who were outraged by John Edwards’ spending extra money to get his regular barber to cut his hair (the high cost was flying him to Edwards, not the actual haircut), are now totally okay with the GOP dropping $150K on Palin in ONE MONTH.
If she’s supposed to be such a ‘natural beauty’, how come it takes such expensive clothes and makeup to make her presentable????

Posted by: JW | October 22, 2008, 7:34 am 7:34 am

THE CLOTHES GET AUCTIONED OFF FOR CHARITY AFTER THE CAMPAIGN. JAKE YOU FAIL TO MENTION THAT. ALSO- in regard to PALINS travel expenses story — the ABC article fails to mention Palin cut travel expenses dramatically from the previous administration– over $300,000 in travel expense cuts! ABC is only telling half of each story. Where is the balance and ALL the facts!?!

Posted by: HEY JAKE | October 22, 2008, 7:34 am 7:34 am

Sarah Palin is made of pork. She bilked Alaska’s tax payers to transport and entertain her children and now she’s milking the RNC for an allotment of clothing that exceeds by far the average US household income.
It’s time to send this fraud back home.

The clothes are getting auctioned off? Ok. Do you mean auctions like the auctions of homes that have been foreclosed on?
Or do you mean auctioned off on e-bay like the plane that didn’t get sold?
Ok. I get it. Let’s spend lots of money so that we can re-sell all the excess for pennies on the dollar AT TAXPAYER expense.
Hillarious! Next we’ll need a bailout for Sarah’s closet.

Is this to say that the Palin families only have a wardrobe of hunting clothes and gear? So if she represents the real America and Joe Six Plumber, does the Joes of America get a check now so that they can go shop at Saks and M.N. to look like her, real Americans?

BUSH IS A UNIQUELY TALENTED MAN. As the conservative mayor of London so aptly put it this week: “Democracy and capitalism are the two great pillars of the American ideal. To have rocked one of those pillars may be regarded as a misfortune. To have damaged the reputation of both, at home and abroad, is a pretty stunning achievement for an American president.” And from Palin’s corrupt behavior, it is easy to see that PALIN IS CUT FROM THE SAME MOLD!

For being “one of us,” Palin has some expensive tastes in apparel. She also bilked Alaska by having the state pay for airfare for her kids, claiming they (the kids) were on official state business (she changed the expense reports to justify her claim). Would a single father have been able to get away with that? I doubt it (I was a single father.) Palin plays the “I’m just like Joe the Plumber,” but she’s really a corrupt politician.

why the media spend time on the $150,000 and not on the $500,000 house the Palin’s friends contractor built for them. It will be interesting to see that those friend are the same contractor that built the ice ring at tax payer money pork barrel.

Rembember when your tax bills go up 30 to 40% that you voted for this man and gave him carte blanc with our federal government. Remember you left all those dems in the house and senate to put in “UNfairness doctrine”, elect supreme court judges who will MAKE laws instead of interpret them, give our hard earned money away to people who choose NOT to work because, hey, why should they??? Remember who did this to America. The Republicans will remember, I guarantee.

Right. And if she were to have done all her campaign shopping at Wal-Mart and looked unpolished everyone would have been poking fun at how unprofessional she looks. Pick your poison here folks. If I were going on a job interview for a job with the imlpications of the job she is applying for, you’d better believe the hubby would be shelling out some dough so I could get a new power suit. Haven’t you ever learned to dress for the job you want? Do we want a vice president that looks like she stepped out of a Wal-Mart ad? And do I really need to point out that this has absolutely nothing to do with the election and policies? Why can’t we get a story on here about Obama’s support of partial birth abortion and the horrible details of what that entails?

And is the McCain camp conceding defeat by saying the clothes would be donated to charity after the election? Like she wouldn’t keep them as Vice President.
This is what is wrong with the Republican party. They think the American voter is simply stupid. But you know 22% of Americans think Bush is doing a great job. Scary isn’t it. And this is the reason they will be voted out of office.

GOVERNOR PALIN’S “REFORMER” EXPENSES
SO MUCH for tax-cutter, COST-CUTTER, “maverick”, reformer propaganda! When you add her $150,000 wardrobe expense in seven weeks (paid for by the Republican Party, donors and taxpayers) to the issue of her per diem and travel expenses, it becomes clearly an eye-popping scandal. Can someone save us from Gov. Palin? Very embarrassing! Governor Palin said she would reform Washington. How? By continuing to use government as her piggy bank! Reformer? Just words! Words! Words! While she preaches reform and prudence, she will be laughing to the bank with taxpayers hard-earned cash and accessories. To add insult to injury, she would be musing that she has fooled us once more. Beyond government and the big-spending allowances it can conjure, the Palin family has very little money. Dude Palin earned about $40,000 a year on his own; but his wife can blow $150,000 in seven weeks on Party and public donations pampering herself. Palin’s high-class shopping spree were at top-notch stores: Barney’s New York ($789.72), Bloomingdale’s New York ($5,102.71), Macy’s in Minneapolis and Atlier. In one outing, she spent more than $75,000 (Politico, 10/21/08). And she is still able to talk to us about out of touch “Washington elites.” The woman who came to reform Washington, ended up taking advantage of Washington. America—wake up and see this charade for what it really is.

If it was newsworthy, the expenses for Michelle’s extreme makeover, Michelle’s spending at the designers and the related costs of the new Obama campaign plane would have been reported long ago. Not to mention the lavish $28,000 plate dinners, the flying Obama’s campaign plane in the opposite direction of where is was intended to go and the excessive fuel waste.

Why aren’t we hearing about Sen Biden? We know his wife died. We know that he agreed with Sen. Clinton that Sen. Obama isn’t qualified. That’s pretty much all most Americans know about the man. We know very little about Obama and almost nothing about Sen. Biden.

However, would I want Palin looking like that just because she’s a mother like me? Heck no! When my kids are all in school, I head back out in to the working world…and a new wardrobe will be coming my way as well…and I promise it won’t be from WalMart. Wonder how much Obama has spent on suits? Just bought a suit for my hubby at Macy’s..Calvin Klein yet modest priced at $350. And that’s a low end suit. Do your homework people.

What about the cost of his lobster appetizer and dinner and Michelle Obama ordered room service in New York the night of Al Smith dinner while Obama is talking about all the poor people “right around the corner”? What about the insane amount of money he is spending to buy this election? What about the $800k he gave to Acorn during the Primary again Hillary Clinton.
People…wake up! Even if you love Obama, don’t vote for him because you think he represents change. He plans to bring a kind of change that you wish you had never seen. Sure there’s a middle ground between WalMart and “what billionaires would say cost too much”. I would guess that if I were a billionaire I would have Donna Karan come to my home and design a suit specifially for me. Neiman Marcus, Bloomies, Macy’s…I would say that’s a middle ground. Honestly, let’s say she spent $500 on each outfit (that’s figuring without accessories)…I would spend that on one suit if I were going on one job interview. However, my job interview would last one day. Palin’s is months and months long, day after day. Go buy a $100 suit from JCPenney’s and see how untailored it looks on your body. If she looked like a slob, we’d be hearing about that too.

I doubt she paid for it personally. Also, she and Barry always lecture Americans about our high life styles (SUVs, food, energy use), but the Obamas live the elite rich lifestyle. Also, how much did the DNC pay for Barry’s suits and hsoes? How much for the plane? How much for his high-price meals? Well…. give us the story, Jake.

Where are Obama’s expenses? How much do Biden’s suits cost? If ABC is going to report things like this they should also report on the other candidate expenses. To the average person that is a lot of money for clothing, but we have nothing to compare it to. How much does Pelosi spend? Is Botox paid for too.

Hello…this is from the party that made fun of John Edwards $400 hair cuts? Not only is this illegal use of campaign money but…she spends more in one shopping spree that “Joe the Plumber” makes in a year! And they have the nerve to Obama an “elitist”!

Posted by: Karen Sicard | October 22, 2008, 8:49 am 8:49 am

Democrats spent the money from private fund and not from tax payer money. I remind you that mcCain got tax payer money for his campaign.

It is amazing to me how you McCainiacs are so blind to the truth. I guess you like the economy the way it is. This spending spree proves they can’t relate to the middle class.
I personally am a professional woman and wear suits. Do you know how I buy them? Macy’s! The suits are as nice as hers and when they go on sale I can get them for 60 bucks each. That is how the middle class does it! So tell me how they can relate to us?

Gov Palin is in a no win situation — if she wore the same thing again and again the media would criticize her — if she gets new clothes the media bashes her too…..Besides….What does this prove? NOTHING!!!!………ABC’s reporting has become horrible! I read several news sites to try and figure out the real story — and ABC is consistently reporting on stupid stuff like this. Not to mention your biased reporting. You highlight that Powell endorsed Obama but not the other FOUR Secretaries that endorsed McCain. You highlight Obama’s relationship with his grandmother (who we all wish well no matter what your party) — but that same day you ignore the poll done on people serving in the military who overwhelmingly choose McCain. If Obama wins next month it is because media channels like ABC pick and choose what to report. Who was the idiot that choose make Palin’s clothes one of your top stories?

This woman is claiming to UNDERSTAND Main St. USA and is now abusing the donations and tax dollars of US citizens.
Anyone in Alaska who pays taxes should be furious about the travel expenses and anyone who donated to the RNC should also be furious that they are clothing this woman for a campaign especially when money is so tight for all families. Don’t you donaters wish you could afford to take your family on a shopping spree to Neiman Marcus?
You should be furious rather than complacant about this.
You all talk about Obama’s plan being a form of welfare (to which you are sadly wrong) but Palin has obviously used you as her form of welfare. Yet you think it’s fine.

I lived in many small towns throughout the midwest, and believe me, most people cannot afford to shop at fancy, high-end department stores.

We do not want to elect someone to office who looks like they are wearing a $40 suit. We would not take them as serious. Obama “show proof of something”? Have all the candidates displayed their birth certificates? Or should it be just the black candidate with the scary name?

Posted by: GW24 | October 22, 2008, 9:17 am 9:17 am

Yep, this is getting extremely silly. Democrats keep sanctimoniously sniffing that the McCain campaign should stop talking about trivialities, then they flog this story. Democrats and the media (but I am redundant here) will not give Sarah Palin a break.
Sarah Palin broke on the national scene unexpectedly and was immediately on stage and in the public eye for countless hours every day for weeks on end. She was assailed as a yokel, a provincial from Alaska, trailer trash, etc. etc. No wonder the RNC wanted to make sure she looked good, not giving anyone fodder for attacking her appearance or mocking her further.
Let’s be honest– there is a double standard where female politicians are concerned. They are scrutinized more closely for their appearance than the men are. Remember Hillary’s pantsuits? The sisterhood of the travelling pantsuit was a running joke among late night comedians and she even took to joking about it. She once wore a slightly low-cut blouse and there were numerous news stories analyzing what that meant. Seriously. Michelle Obama wore a cute dress on The View and the next day every morning show had a story about where to get one like it and how her fashion sense was being studied and copied around the country. When Cindy McCain, a wealthy woman, wears expensive jewelry, she is pilloried as out-of-touch with ordinary Americans, while Nancy Pelosi, an equally wealthy woman, wears pearls that could choke a horse and no one says a word about it.
In short, what women wear gets noticed. So the RNC wardrobe consultants made sure that Palin looked polished and professional. They spent a lot of money in the process. Palin herself did not go shopping and run up a huge bill. If she had not looked well-turned-out, people would have made fun of her for it. Remember the cracks about her upsweep hairdo early on? Dated, trashy, unkempt– I clearly remember those remarks attacking the woman for her hair. Now she wears her hair down a good deal of the time. There were numerous stories about her wearing high heels on the trail and not wearing panty hose with them. Oh, that’s important information for the informed voter, all right.
So now, when folks need to get the attention off ACORN’s latest antics as reported in the NYT and off Biden’s bizarre statements about our need to support a future Pres. Obama when he appears to screw up the foreign policy crisis that is inevitable in the first months of his administration and off the way that Democrats have trashed poor Joe the Plumber for having the audacity to ask a question of The Chosen One and then not fall for his answer, the story of Sarah’s wardrobe suddenly floods the morning shows and the blogs. Some of us will remain focused on the big picture, thanks all the same.
Vote McCain/Palin in November. We need their leadership.

Posted by: moderate | October 22, 2008, 9:19 am 9:19 am

Did anybody really believe that Sarah palin was in this for anything other than the personal glory?

Posted by: Truth Matters | October 22, 2008, 9:19 am 9:19 am

This story appears to do more harm than good. I disagree with Palin’s policy positions, but saying the GOP is spending too much on her clothes seems like a shallow and sexist argument. I’m sure McCain, Obama, and Biden all wear nice suits that cost a fair amount of money, too–but no mention of those price tags?
This story opens up this news organization to the criticisms and allegations of bias that we’ve seen posted here. ABC is better than this. Let’s stick to the substantive issues, please.

Posted by: Enough | October 22, 2008, 9:19 am 9:19 am

GOP wants to spend that dough dressing Caribou Barbie and kin instead of marketing McCain in swing states? Let ‘em. A pitbull with lipstick in a Nieman Marcus dress can still bring down a failed political campaign faster than she can spot Russia from her backyard.

Posted by: CJ | October 22, 2008, 9:20 am 9:20 am

It’s interesting how the clothes worn by female candidates are a source of constant critiques but the clothes of the male candidates are seldom, if ever, made an issue.
If Palin, or any other female candidate, didn’t dress in well-fitted, appropriate clothes, she’d be labeled frumpy. Clinton takes flack for her pants suits, Palin takes flack for how much her clothes cost. Obama, McCain and Biden get a pass on their fashions.
Male or female, the clothes they wear while campaigning are a business expense.
Does the media think we’re so stuipd that we decide whom to vote for based on what they wear and how much they paid for it? Or…are we that stupid after all?

Posted by: MizFW | October 22, 2008, 9:21 am 9:21 am

Sarah Palin reminds me of the old adage..Do as I say, not as I do…Why aren’t her kids in school?…I feel so sorry for that little baby that she drags around like a rag doll…She has spent aboslutely no time bonding with that baby because she is so busy running around the country trying to obtain fame and fortune at the expense of her family… and if the Repbublican Party claim they are just about out of money, why would they spend 150,000 on their clothes and not on the campaign?….But, I’m not surprise…I’m 57 years old and even as a little girl growing up I always heard my parents say that when Republicans get in office, everybody suffers; when Democrats are in office , everyboby thrives….So far, they haven’t lied…It’s obvious that the Republicans are for the rich..The dress Michelle Obama wore to the DNC was 150.00..The dress Cindy McShame wore was 300,000.00…..now try to explain that to middle class Americans who have lost jobs sent overseas;lost their homes to foreclosures; can hardly keep gas in the car and food on the table trying to live off unemployment checks because there are no jobs…..It’s a sin and a disgrace…I think God has finally said, enough is enough…Obama 2008!!

What is really pathetic is that this Jake Tapper is allowed to represt the Democratic party on a national news network site. Why don’t you just say Jake that you are out to portray Obama not as the shallow liar that he is but rather to bash every Republican you can?

Dear delusional GOP posters on this board:
Of course this is news. Joe Six Pack doesn’t shop at Niemans. Joe Six Pack was brought up by McCain, not by the media or the left. Not to mention Joe the Plumber. If you want to cozy up to working class folks you need to do a better job of hiding your millionaire habits.
It’s called HYPOCRISY. It’s also called PAYBACK for John Edwards. So suck on it.

I don’t know why the conservatives are all whining about redistributing the wealth. It’s been going on for years. I don’t really want my tax dollars going to help millionaire CEO’s who should be in jail, either. It’s a messed up world where people are not upset about their taxes funding a ridiculous war that has gone on for way too long, and “rebuilding Iraq” when our own country is torn down. But God forbid putting any money into domestic social programs that may help the elderly or the truly needy. Hate to tell you this, but those stimulus payments are socialism!!! hahahaha

RNC IN SEPT TO SUPPORTERS: WE ARE BUYING $150K IN CLOTHING TO PLAY DRESS UP FOR YOUR VP CANDIDATE, BUT DONT WORRY WE ARE PLANNING TO AUCTION THE CLOTHING OFF AFTER WE LOOSE TO REIMBURSE OUR CONTRIBUTORS.

If Gov Palin fails to get elected, an decides to not run for re-election in Alaska, can you just imagine how much money she will make on the speaking tour. I am actually looking forward to all the giveaways that Sen Obama is promising, in fact, I am already lining up to buy a new boat. My guess there will be a draft, a mass exodus of money going overseas by those rich folk who will be taxed higher. I remember when the made Welfare more profitable then going to work, folks quit.

Posted by: Willie | October 22, 2008, 9:46 am 9:46 am

I don’t care for Palin, but the reality is that candidates for public office, their spouses, and professionals of any stripe are expected to dress reasonably well. The press and public scrutinize their clothes and comment on them, and that goes for the men, too. Palin’s wardrobe needed to be upgraded for public appearances, so the party saw to it that it was. Hillary Clinton’s wardrobe got a drastic makeover when her husband was first running for office. Michelle Obama, I can promise you, is dressing considerably better now than she was merely the wife of my state senator here in Chicago, and I’ve now seen countless articles about her clothes. It may seem hard to grasp in a period of economic stress, but one could call these wardrobe improvements legitimate campaign expenses from the point of view of public relations and advertising. Image counts.
By the way, I shop at Neiman Marcus, and I recognize some of the items Palin is wearing in the pictures, particularly the red suit. They are far, far less expensive than Cindy McCain’s very high-end designer ensembles.

It’s unfortunate and telling that ABC News’, Jake Tapper, didn’t add the information that these clothes are slated to be auctioned off and the proceeds given to charity. Even if they weren’t going to charity, Palin’s clothing allowance is pitons compared to the outrageous amounts that Obama is doling out for half-hour TV spots for advertising.

We are entering a recession … this is newsworthy as the Republicans (which are the rich) polish a player to pander to the working folks.

So this is the best Jake Tapper can do? There is a lot greater issues out there rather than dissecting everything the republicans do. I am an independent, so I see both sides and I certainly don’t see anyone commenting on the finances of ANY democrats – Obamas, Bidens, and especially the Clintons (who are infamous for their spending habits!). So if this is only going to be one-sided and your not going to show us what the democrats have spent to do a comparison – this is an absolutely pointless story. As a senior correspondent, I would hope to see better news writings from you in the future.

What are you guys jealous? Do you think that because you can’t afford a $150K wardrobe, no one else should be able to? If you are so jealous, why don’t you go to school and take the time to enter the political arena?
I’m so tired to the entitlement some people in this country feel. If someone makes more money than them they feel the need to bring that person down.
Half of these jealous people are in that 40% that DON”T EVEN PAY INCOME TAX! They do not contribute financially to this country and at the same time they complain because others have better wardrobes than them. Get a life, go to school and make your own money.
Yea, I’m pissed….I didn’t even get a stimulus check because my AGI is too high YET I have 65K in student loans left from school which I took out so I could become qualified for this very job. Make your own money and stop begging others to take care of you.

Palin helped eliminate personal propety tax in Alaska while Obama was voteing for more for all of us. Palin did not for 20 years get brain washed by her preacher like Obama did. What, there is a big difference between spending $150,000 on expensive clothing (especially when she already had adequate clothing), and helping people who have been laid-off afford healthcare and other basic necessities. Obama wants to help people who need actually need help. There are plenty of WORKING middle class families that can not afford things like healthcare. I do not see a problem with helping them. However I have major issue with giving tax relief to companies making billions in profits while the average american struggles.

Jim, you originally asked why women were not supporting Palin. I gave you my reasons so I hope you have a better understanding of that issue now. In regards to Barack’s household…he is able to do things without his family! His family lived in IL while he was in Dc and I havent heard of him billing taxpayers for their trips to see him or accompany him on ‘official’ government business. It would be interesting to see a 9 yr old conducting ‘official’ government business though! Palin has very strong ties to her family which is a wonderful thing. However, as VP she would neeed to spend considerable time away from her family and could not bring them along…I dont think she could or would want to do that.

Accusing API of colluding with American internet bloggers in an effort to bring down her husband, Mrs Obama said she decided to call API because of what she termed, API’s help to spread rumours created by American bloggers and other racist media outlets in their efforts to damage a black man’s name, saying she hopes African Media was mature enough to be in the front to give unwavering support to her husband, a man Africans should identify themselves with.
When API told her that our online news media was only relaying what the American Bloggers and other media outlets had discovered through their investigations, Mrs Obama was angered and she came out loud with the following: “African press International is supposed to support Africans and African-American view,” and she went to state that, “it is strange that API has chosen to support the racists against my husband. There is no shame in being adopted by a step father. All dirt has been thrown onto my husband’s face and yet he loves this country. My husband and I know that there is no law that will stop him from becoming the president, just because some American white racists are bringing up the issue of my husband’s adoption by His step father. The important thing here is where my husband’s heart is at the moment. I can tell the American people that My husband loves this country and his adoption never changed his love for this country. He was born in Hawaii, yes, and that gives him all the right to be an American citizen even though he was adopted by a foreigner; says Michelle Obama on telefon to API.”
This is a very interesting turn of events. The American man Dr Corsi was recently reported to have been arrested in Kenya because there was fear that he might reveal information on Obama when he wanted to hold a press conference in Nairobi.
The question now is why he was arrested and who ordered his arrest. Was Obama’s hand in this in any way? We will never know the truth but what is clear is that Dr Corsi was seen as a threat while in Kenya.
When API asked Mrs Obama to comment on why Dr Corsi was arrested by the Kenyan government and whether she thought Kenya’s Prime Minister Mr Raila Odinga was involved in Dr Corsi’s arrest, she got irritated and and simply told API not to dig that which will support evil people who are out to stop her husband from getting the presidency.
When asked who she was referring to as the evil people, she stated that she was not going to elaborate much on that but that many conservative white people and even some African Americans were against her husband, but that this group of blacks were simply doing so because of envy.
On Farakhan and his ministry, Mrs Obama told API that it was unfortunate that Mr Farakhan came out the way he did supporting her husband openly before the elections was over. That was not wholehearted support but one that was calculated to convince the American people that my husband will support the growth of muslim faith if he became the president, adding “even if my husband was able to prove that he is not a Muslim, he will not be believed by those who have come out strongly to destroy his chances of being the next President. Do real people expect someone to deny a religion when 80 percent of his relatives are Muslims?; Mrs Obama asked.
Mrs Obama asked API to write a good story about her husband and that will earn API an invitation to the innoguration ceremony when, as she put it , her husband will be installed as the next President of the United States of America next year.

The Village needs to work together and create tighter family values. Well its here. The village has come to the VP slot and the family will take care of its self. If you want to use that arguement for debate then Obama needs to step aside. He will be to busy if he gets elected to spend time with his close family. The VP role though great is not as great and demanding as the Presidents. Therfore based on your assesment Obama needs to step aside because he will not be able to spend time with his chidren. JULIE – Thank you for your response regarding stimulating the economy through lower gas prices. There are over 240 million registered vehicles in opertion based on 2006 consensus. If 70% are in operation and each owner saw a conservative savings of $20 week over week, then $3.4 billion dollars was potentially spread across other businesses. We know Americans aren’t very good at saving so it’s safe to expect someone else took in the money. So, $20 over 52 weeks for 170 million vehicles, is roughly $176 Billion. I think the Dems are asking for $150B.
If you like low gas prices, vote for John McCain. One could also carry the discussion over to National Security based on Iran’s response to lower gas prices just this week.
Regarding Obama spending his and his donors money excessively vs. McCain using tax dollars to campaign. If Obama is President, wouldn’t he see taxpayers money his to spend?

A Big Wrinkle in Palin’s $150,000 Clothing Allowance
October 22, 2008 9:24 AM
Following up on that Politico story about the RNC apparently spending more than $150,000 on clothes for Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin…
I wonder if the governor knows that she’s going to have to pay taxes on those clothes, even if she ultimately gives them away?
Tax experts say that even if she only wears them for professional reasons — locked away in a special “candidate” cabinet, say — Palin will be on the hook for those fancy new duds just as if someone had written her a check for $150,000.
Wonder if she knows that.

umm.. Joe the Dishwasher?
A “garderobe” is a privy. So-named because it was once thought that hanging your clothes in the privy would guard them from moths — fumes you know.
Both the Palin home in Wasila [suburban Palmer] and the governor’s residence in Juneau are handily equipped with flush toilets and other modern contraptions that eliminate the moth-repellant properties.
Ah progress! But what we save on perfume…

Mrs. Palin had DOCUMENTS DOCTORED to cover her purloined trips and hotel expenses for her family on the TAXPAYER’S DIME while governor of Alaska and now she is helping herself to TAXPAYER MONEY for a snazzy wardrobe. And you Palin fans aren’t worried she’ll cash in on your tax dollars if she makes it to the White House? She likes the good life y’all. Think twice. McCAIN AND PALIN DO NOT SUPPORT THE MIDDLE CLASS!!!

THIS IS SEXIST! HOW MUCH MONEY HAS OBAMA SPENT ON HIS WARDROBE????

Posted by: beacon | October 22, 2008, 10:44 am 10:44 am

Jim, not hardly. Obama has a close family BUT HE IS ABLE TO BE APART FROM THEM. He is going to Hawaii tomorrow without the wife and kids. During his time in teh senate he did not ask that his wife and kids be allowed to come to all the events HE was invited to. He did not bill taxpayers so that his wife and children could accompany him…there are major differences between how Obama and Palin have handled their family lives while in office. There is no reason to believe that Palin or Obama would do anything different than what they have done in the past. Also, there is a good chance that Palin could become president (if god-forbid McCain is elected and dies in office). You have to imagine the consequences and stop turning a blind eye to patterns of misbehavior

McCain’s ‘understanding’ of the economic problems facing middle class or poor people in our country is no better than it has ever been which is NIL, NOTHING, NADA. When you have ‘ALWAYS’ BEEN WEALTHY, it is impossible to understand what it’s like to be middle class or poor, so how can anyone actually ‘believe’ he has ANY MEASURE OF UNDERSTANDING? He doesn’t keep a budget, worry about any of his 7 mortgages, worry about medical coverage or out of pocket expenses, or buy gas for his 13 autos, so tell me how he can begin to understand any economic problems facing regular Americans!
The same rationalization fits Palin. She may have grown up middle class, but has since lost all understanding of what that was like since she now shops at Niemans and Saks and never has to worry about paying her 3 mortgages, gasoline for their 2 boats or snowmobiles, etc. They are RICH and don’t forget it! Besides in her case, she is also ignorant!

Well, that sounds strange to me..I thought you had to have a least a high school diploma and some techincal training in order to get a job like that?…Hmmmmmm………He must have had connections…The average high school drop out wouldn’t be able to walk into a job like that….Now if that’s not a handout I don’t know what is….And futhermore, how do you know about somebody selling drugs out of a cadallic at night?…You must have been in the neighborhood while it was going on..They say drug dealers biggest customers are the ones from the other side of town..if you know what I mean….

this is not tax payers money. its the same money that NoBama’s old lady has already spent on Iranian Caviar, Lobster and $100+ bottles of Dom for the post-election party…..

You got to be kidding!! This is the best story you can come up with!! What did Obama and Biden spend on their suits, etc. and include the price of men’s shoes, ties, shirts, etc. This is way over the top SEXIST! Get over it – you need clothes to wear when in the public eye! SEXIST – Would you please let us know what the men are spending for their suits if you write an article on the only woman??

Jack – when you get a clue about taxpayer funded campaigns vs. donation funded campaigns – then get back to us. Until then….well….you already know.

Put lipstick on a pig it is still a pig. put $150,000 worth of clothing on a pig it is still a pig. Sarah will be the same no matter how much is spent on her. A PIG !!!

She does look good in skirts and boots though!!!!

Posted by: p | October 22, 2008, 10:58 am 10:58 am

OK, Palin spends $150,000 on clothes (probably because she cannot afford the clothes herself)
Obama collects $150,000,000 in one month.
And you have a problem with Palin?
How will Obama pay back his supporters?

Has anyone seen the new tapes of Rev. Wright. Unbeleiveable someone could of went to this racist church for 20 years and never heard a sermon like he does now.

Where is the news on ABC on these new tapes of Rev. Wright. Oh that is right clothes of our next VP is more important then the people that Obama has associated with the last 20 years.

Hey Gloria, the “Michelle Obama Hotel Bill Story” Completely debunked. She wasn’t even at the hotel.

Why on earth would the McCain campaign, which is reportedly running low on funds, spend $150,000 outfitting Palin and her family?
Stacy and Clinton could have made her look just as good for a mere $5000!

CRAZY I would also like to know:::::::Where is the news on ABC on these new tapes of Rev. Wright. Oh that is right clothes of our next VP is more important then the people that Obama has associated with the last 20 years.

“Has anyone seen the new tapes of Rev. Wright. Unbeleiveable someone could of went to this racist church for 20 years and never heard a sermon like he does now.”
This argument is so old. 20 years blah blah blah. First of all the guy preached over 2000 sermons. I am not defending him in any shape form or fashion, but only 5 of those sermons were ridiculously over the top, offensive and distasteful. 5 out of 2000. Hardly enough for any type of indoctrination of Obama. In addition, it has already been proven that Obama wasn’t there to hear any of them. So please find a new talking point!

Zeke M, Clinton would have just stolen the closthes. when are the Clintons going to return the furniture?

I Like Low Gas Prices, Don’t get use to them, If Obama get elected we will be looking at $7.00 a gallon for gas.

“this is not tax payers money. its the same money that NoBama’s old lady has already spent on Iranian Caviar, Lobster and $100+ bottles of Dom for the post-election party”
PAge 6 has retracted that story.
THE source who told us last week about Michelle Obama getting lobster and caviar delivered to her room at the Waldorf-Astoria must have been under the influence of a mind-altering drug. She was not even staying at the Waldorf. We regret the mistake, and our former source is going to regret it, too. Bread and water would be too good for such disinformation.
The lesson as always? Right wingers lie.

Obama it Won’t Work: You’re thinking of the wrong Clinton … think “What Not To Wear”.
For $5k they could have made her look a lot better than she does with $150k from supporters like you … and fashion advice from Cindy McCain!

Obama’s grandmother isn’t dying, she just broke her hip. In August the whole family visited her.
————————————
Just for your information, someone Obama’s grandmother age more often die from a broke hip injure then live.

ACORN, Joe Biden’s comments, naive Obama, Bill Ayers and Bernadine, Rethko, Obama won’t release any documents about birth or college, Obama won’t release medical records, Obama flip flops, Obama wants to redistribute a citizen’s hard-earned money, Obama digs into the private life of Joe the Plumber….
And Jake wants to talk about shoes and ladies’ suits. Jake, maybe you should move to the Fashion section. You have lost all credibility…

@John from Quincy.. hey john did you by any chance donate to RNC camp.. if so its worth it.. supposedly used for polishing Palin’s boots.. anyway she didn’t spend her own money for that.. its YOUR MONEY.. when will u ever WAKE UP..

Gotta love the right-wing attack dogs: When Obama orders a latte, it’s proof that he’s an out-of-touch elite. When Palin spends $150,000 on clothes and makeup, covering it is just liberal media bias. Shameless.

Posted by: MLA | October 23, 2008, 2:49 am 2:49 am

I find this ridiculous! If John Edwards can pay off his mistress from campaign funds, perhaps Palin and her family of 7 can get some clothing to wear in front of the entire World Audience! Christ, if she didn’t look good, then everyone would have torn her apart, now that she looks good everyone is tearing that apart. Man, you can’t even find any reporting on how much Obama and his family spent on their clothing! How about that? Since historically Democrats are the BIG Spenders, I would find that number very interesting, how about that reporting….anyone?, or are we all too afraid to report anything negative against the new comer, no no, lets just keep on harping on How someone that has been a governor and mayor and who has a higher security clearance than both Biden and Obama spends money on clothing, that’s important!….NOT!

Posted by: Karen | October 24, 2008, 4:06 pm 4:06 pm

Obama supporters who trashed Palin from day one are ranting about her wardrobe and other petty matters, while an anti-American Socialist / Marxist racist is about to highjack our government, with the help of voter fraud, and a corrupt biased media. You’d better wake up America … or, this country is about to experience an ugly 4 year long nightmare under Obama/Biden !!!
