Can McCain Pull Off a McKinley?

For the McCain campaign, the GDP numbers out this morning had to hurt.
The last time we saw personal consumption expenditures go down was 1991. The US economy is shrinking and is — by most accounts — in recession. This year, the obstacles for the incumbent party are great.
We’ve seen the financial crisis hit, job losses nearly every month this year, and now this GDP number. The last time the incumbent party held office in the face of a recession, or on the heels of one, was in 1900 with Republican candidate William McKinley. Can John McCain pull off a McKinley? –George Stephanopoulos

For the good of America, I hope not.
Why doesn’t anyone ask John McCain about his apparent dishonesty in calling Barack Obama a socialist about 300 times?
Last night McCain admitted that Obama is not a socialist, though of course he doesn’t like Obama’s idea of rolling back the Bush tax cuts for those making over $250,000.
But the point is that McCain is dishonest in using this inflamatory label and he should be held accountable.

On a related note, why doesn’t anyone ask John McCain if he is willing today to call for the end to Social Security, Medicare, unemployment insurance and all other government programs that redistribute wealth?
I mean, come on. If the man is a hypocrite, the press has to call him on it!

John McCain could have won the election had he picked a sensible VP candidate. With Romney or Pawlenty, I really think he would have won.
When you read about Palin being the future of the Republican Party, you really have to wonder what they are thinking, or smoking. She has to be the most incompetent and polarizing figure on the political stage today.
I howl with laughter when I hear the kool-aid Righties proclaim her the future of the GOP. The smart Conservatives (and there are many) will have to purge this Palin/Bachmann type Republican if they wish to be the majority party again.

The best strategy the “conservatives” of radio set in motion (a strategy later adopted by the McCain/Palin camp) was the one where they got all their followers to call Obama “the messiah”. They have no idea how many Christians, Muslims, Jews, and people holding other religious faiths were offended by their blasphemy and blatent disdain for others’ right to religion.
We’re all Americans.

Could Sarah Palin please promise us she will read a book that explains the three branches of government before she runs for national office again.
And maybe take a course in economics too, so that she can understand that increasing the world’s oil production one half of 1% is not going to change the world price of crude by any noticable amount.

McCain and the RNC are getting desperate now. Now sending out robo-calls about Rezko!? I guess the kitchen sink has been thrown. They are going to say and do anything to slander Obama and try to take the race from him. Hold your ground all you Dems!!!!!!

vf ,
Thanks for joining us! Do you have the courage to answer a couple questions?
1. Did John McCain say last night on the Larry King show that Barack Obama is not a socialist?
2. Does that mean Mr. McCain was being dishonest when he said that HE BELIEVED that Obama was a socialist in previous speeches?
3. Do you think that being dishonest, indeed bearing false witness, about another American represents your values as an American?

Know this is completely off point…but where are Palin’s medical records…sick and tired of the double standards…Obama/Biden have to give a pint of blood and McCain gives a time limit to review his medical files and Palin (ooops…) they don’t appear.
Tired of the media not taking them to task…for goodness sake, it DOES matter…

vf,
I hope you are still with us!
Is John McCain willing today to call for the end to Social Security, Medicare and all other government programs that redistribute wealth?
Is John McCain, by his own definition, a socialist?
Do you believe, as an American, that if John McCain is a socialist, he should step forward with that information so that we can use this to judge his worthiness for the office he seeks, before the election?

Ok, I’ll ask something else.
Intentional pay discrimination is illegal. That is a fact.
Does anyone here think it justice that women should be denied the right to sue if they find out they have been intentionally discriminated against for 30 years, ON THE GROUNDS that she didn’t file in court after her first pay check?
The case I am talking about is Lilly Ledbetter v Goodyear Tire and Rubber.
Lilly Ledbetter found out she was discriminated against. She proved it in court. She proved it was intentional. (Emails left no doubt.) But she didn’t FIND OUT until she worked at Goodyear for 30 years.
The reason the right wing Supreme Court threw her case out, AFTER SHE HAD WON? She should have filed when she received the first pay check.
OF COURSE SHE HAD NO EVIDENCE that she was discriminated against until the list of salaries was slipped to her after she had worked there for 30 years.
Is that justice? Or is it simply indecent?
FACT: John McCain opposed the legislation that would have repaired this injustice, not only for Lilly Ledbetter, but for ALL WOMEN.
Such a classy guy!

‘Twas the night before elections
And all through the town
Tempers were flaring
Emotions all up and down!
I, in my bathrobe
With a cat in my lap
Had cut off the TV
Tired of political crap.
When all of a sudden
There arose such a noise
I peered out of my window
Saw Obama and his boys
They had come for my wallet
They wanted my pay
To give to the others
Who had not worked a day!
He snatched up my money
And quick as a wink
Jumped back on his bandwagon
As I gagged from the stink
He then rallied his henchmen
Who were pulling his cart
I could tell they were out
To tear my country apart!
” On Fannie, on Freddie,
On Biden and Ayers!
On Acorn, On Pelosi”
He screamed at the pairs!
They took off for his cause
And as he flew out of sight
I heard him laugh at the nation
Who wouldn’t stand up and fight!
So I leave you to think
On this one final note-
IF YOU DONT WANT SOCIALISM
GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!

John McCain is 72 years old.
In your family you likely have someone near that age. Would you trust that person with your 401K? Would you want that person to run your schools? Would you want that person to give direction to the police department? Would you want that person visit you everyday?
Do you really think someone who is old like John McCain, can change with the times and make your life better?

I keep seeing that the Republicans keep brining up Obama’s full name. I guess because it’s different. So I can only surmise that the Republicans think that names of Polish, Czech, German, Jewish, Puerto Rican, Japanese or Chinese descent are “differnt” because those names are not the typical Smith or Jones. I guess the Repubs think a person with a different sounding name has no business assuming they are good enough to run for the highest office in our country. Just a reminder to the Rebublicans that it’s those people with the odd sounding names that came to this counrty in the early 1900′s and worked their butts off in the coal mines or steel mills to help build this counrty into the great nation that is America. How dare you look down your noses at those of us whose names just happen to be a little different than let’s say Smith or Jones.

My Friends, I’m truly sorry for what I have become. The maverick I was when I ran in 2000 would denounce my campaign tactics in 2008.
You have to understand that my unraveling and incoherent campaign is largely not my fault, but the fault of Republican operatives formerly of the Bush camp.
They made me pick Palin when I wanted to pick Joe (Lieberman) or Tom (Ridge). They told me to embrace the negative smears on my opponent that I once aggressively denounced when they were instigated against me.
I apologize for what I let them do. It wasn’t completely me. They told me what to do and I went with it.
I do have to say the McCain of 2000 would cast a vote for Barack Obama, not the sorry Bush clone of McCain 2008. Thank you my friends.

Where are Obama’s?

Posted by: mn | October 30, 2008, 11:08 pm 11:08 pm

I truly hope Senator McCain does not steal victory from the jaws of defeat.
In 1972, Pittsburgh Steelers were down 7-6 against the Oakland Raiders with 22 seconds remaining on the clock. The Steelers had the ball at their own 40-yard line. It was 4th down and 10 yards to go. Terry Bradshaw hit Franco Harris with a Hail Mary pass. It was the “Immaculate Reception.” Steelers won.
I am a Browns fan. I wanted the Raiders to win.
In this election, I want Senator Obama to win. And, I want him to win decisively so that the entire world knows that the people who call America home have spoken in a clear and unambiguous fashion. We want a change. We need a change. And, we will fight even the most tenacious and tireless person to ensure victory for Senator Obama.
Having said that, I hope everyone is clear about my perspective.
There is a way Senator McCain could win. However, Senator McCain and his team of advisors are oblivious to it for one reason or another because their focus is on non-core issue distractions.
I have already voted for Senator Obama, made phone calls on his behalf, put my money where my mouth is, and traveled to Ohio from the Lone Star State because I firmly believe that he who wins Ohio will win this election.
David Axelrod’s strategy is brilliant. I imagine one could find in the penumbra of this great strategy, something that independent and undecided voters need to swing their votes to Senator Obama.
If Senator Obama runs the map, he will have the consensus … and the mandate from the people … to pull the American economy out of the ditch, re-establish America’s stature among nations, and address America’s most pressing needs.
Yes, there is a way that Senator McCain could pull off a McKinley. But, I would never tell because he doesn’t get it. You may recall that it was less than a month ago when he said the “American economy is on a firm foundation.”
Senator McCain’s strategists are bright people. But, a leader must lead by example. He picked Gov. Pallin as his understudy. His choice showed us what he thinks is important.
As I have said, I want Senator Obama to win. I want Senator Obama to win because he gets it. President Clinton got it. He still gets it.
Karl Rove was a masterful tactician. In 2000 and 2004, Karl Rove was at the top of his game. He understood how to craft messages to appeal to market segments and how to manipulate the media. He intimidated a generation of journalists and publishers.
Senator McCain could pull off a successful Hail Mary victory pass because the current generation of journalists and publishers would allow him to get away with it without addressing the hypocrisy of his fourth and long Hail Mary winning touchdown message. Lincoln Steffens would not permit it. But, Steffens is not around.
I won’t tell Senator McCain how to win because I want the new generation of writers to teach our children to question authority. Senator Obama will provide open access to journalists so they can ask questions and receive answers to educate Americans about the decisions our leaders are making.
A victory for Senator McCain is a distinct possibility. So, supporters of Senator Obama cannot rest until the last vote in the last precinct is cast on Election Day. Every vote is an important vote.
People who support Senator Obama could learn something from a folktale called, “The Wise Quail.” Martin, Rafe. The Hungry Tigress: Buddhist Legends and Jataka Tales. Berkeley, California: Parallax Press, ©1990.
It is the story about a quail who instructs his flock how to escape the hunter’s nets by working together. He then encourages them to move deeper into the forest in order to practice cooperation. Some of the quail refuse to leave, and as a result of their arguing, they are caught by the hunter and perish.
We need to beat the hunter. We will only beat the hunter by working together. The next five days are critical. But, that is just the beginning. We must work together for the next four years to ensure we get out of the ditch and back onto the road to prosperity.
On Wednesday I will stop my crusade to help Senator Obama win because I know the hunter knows how to hunt and Senator McCain will never give up.
Vote Obama. Voter early. And, take your mom, dad, and children to the polls on Election Day.
Note: Senator Obama needs to reach out to Hispanic voters in Texas.

You are right, McCain was incorrect when he called him a socialist. He should have called him a Marxist. Look at his past, look who he surrounds himself with and what he wants to do. Do you think Marxism was sold as the worst polictical system of all time? No, it was sold as change, fair, and compassionate. Ut helped the common worker by making sure everyone has the same. Marxism does not make everyone equal by lifting up the lower class, no it brings down the upper class to the lower class level so all can be equal in their misery. If that is the change you can belive in, go for it. If he wins, it will be change you will submit to. Mark my words.

Obama has NOT released his entire medical records. That’s a lie.

Posted by: wik wik | October 31, 2008, 11:41 am 11:41 am

I started looking into Obama’s life.
Around 1979 Obama started college at Occidental in California . He is
very open about his two years at Occidental, he tried all kinds of
drugs and was wasting his time but, even though he had a brilliant
mind, did not apply himself to his studies. ‘Barry’ (that was the name
he used all his life) during this time had two roommates, Muhammad
Hasan Chandoo and Wahid Hamid, both from Pakistan . During the summer
of 1981, after his second year in college, he made a ’round the world’
trip. Stopping to see his mother in Indonesia , next Hyderabad in
India , three weeks in Karachi , Pakistan where he stayed with his
roommate’s family, then off to Africa to visit his father’s family.
My
question – Where did he get the money for this trip? Nether I, nor
any one of my children would have had money for a trip like this when
they where in college. When he came back he started school at Columbia
University in New York . It is at this time he wants everyone to call
him Barack – not Barry. Do you know what the tuition is at Columbia ?
It’s not cheap! to say the least. Where did he get money for tuition?
Student Loans? Maybe. After Columbia , he went to Chicago to work as a
Community Organizer for $12,000. a year. Why Chicago ? Why not New
York ? He was already living in New York .
By ‘chance’ he met Antoin ‘Tony’ Rezko, born in Aleppo Syria ,
and a
real estate developer in Chicago . Rezko has been convicted of fraud
and bribery this year. Rezko, was named ‘Entrepreneur of the Decade’
by the Arab-American Business and Professional Association’. About
two years later, Obama entered Harvard Law School . Do you have any
idea what tuition is for Harvard Law School ? Where did he get the
money for Law School ? More student loans? After Law school, he went
back to Chicago . Rezko offered him a job, which he turned down. But,
he did take a job with Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland. Guess what?
They represented ‘Rezar’ which is Rezko’s firm. Rezko was one of
Obama’s first major financial contributors when he ran for office in
Chicago . In 2003, Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama which
Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendelland claims was instrumental in
providing Obama with ‘seed money’ for his U.S. Senate race. In 2005,
Obama purchased a new home in Kenwoood District of Chicago for $1.65
million (less than asking price). With ALL those Student Loans -
Where did he get the money for the property? On the same day Rezko’s
wife, Rita, purchased the adjoining empty lot for full price. The
London Times reported that Nadhmi Auchi, an Iraqi-born Billionaire
loaned Rezko $3.5 million three weeks before Obama’s new home was
purchased. Obama met Nadhmi Auchi many times with Rezko.
Now, we have Obama running for President. Valerie Jarrett, was Michele
Obama’s boss. She is now Obama’s chief advisor and he does not make
any major decisions without talking to her first. Where was Jarrett
born? Ready for this? Shiraz , Iran ! Do we see a pattern here? Or am
I going crazy?
On May 10, 2008 The Times reported, Robert Malley advisor to Obama was
‘sacked’ after the press found out he was having regular contacts
with
‘Hamas’, which controls Gaza and is connected with Iran . This past
week, buried in the back part of the papers, Iraqi newspapers reported
that during Obama’s visit to Iraq , he asked their leaders to do nothing
about the war until after he is elected, and he will ‘Take care of
things’.
Oh, and by the way, remember the college roommates that where born in
Pakistan ? They are in charge of all those ‘small’ Internet campaign
contribution for Obama. Where is that money coming from? The poor
and middle class in this country? Or could it be from the Middle
East?
And the final bit of news. On September 7, 2008, The Washington Times
posted a verbal slip that was made on ‘This Week’ with George
Stephanapoulos. Obama on talking about his religion said, ‘My Muslim
faith’. When questioned, ‘he made a mistake’. Some mistake!
All of the above information I got on line. If you would like to check
it – Wikipedia, encyclopedia, Barack Obama; Tony Rezko; Valerie
Jarrett: Daily Times – Obama visited Pakistan in 1981; The Washington
Times – September 7, 2008; The Times May 10, 2008.
Now the BIG question – If I found out all this information on my own,
Why haven’t all of our ‘intelligent’ members of the press been
reporting this?
A phrase that keeps ringing in my ear – ‘Beware of the enemy from
within’!!!

So Long, Democrats
by Wendy Button
Read an excerpt from former OBAMA speachwriter: “Governor Palin and I don’t agree on a lot of things, mostly social issues. But I have grown to appreciate the Governor. I was one of those initial skeptics and would laugh at the pictures. Not anymore. When someone takes on a corrupt political machine and a sitting governor, that is not done by someone with a low I.Q. or a moral core made of tissue paper. When someone fights her way to get scholarships and work her way through college even in a jagged line, that shows determination and humility you can’t learn from reading Reinhold Niebuhr. When a mother brings her son with special needs onto the national stage with love, honesty, and pride, that gives hope to families like mine as my older brother lives with a mental disability. And when someone can sit on a stage during the Sarah Palin rap on Saturday Night Live, put her hands in the air and watch someone in a moose costume get shot—that’s a sign of both humor and humanity.”
She is now supporting McCAIN/PALIN. You didn’t hear about that on dear ABC did you?

McCain gets an F on running a presidential campaign. Could have tied B.O. to Jimmy Carter on foreign policy and the economy. He could have tied B.O. to the do nothing Congress of Pelosi and Reed, and his voting record could have been highlighted more, voting 100% to increase taxes among some other left of center votes. Highlighted more how the Democrats blocked action to get Fannie and Freddie under control, and tied him to this. I guess McCain suffers from A.D.D. McCain’s decision on Rick Davis to run his campaign, someone tied as a lobbyist
to Fannie and Freddie Mac, has a Stupid is as Stupid does ring to it. The choice of Governor Palin, I would have gone with Secretary Rice. Hey McCain, when B.O. said spread the wealth, you should have gone on national television and asked B.O. for some of his campaign money, a litmus test. In short, the Republicans need an enema, they created the perfect storm that made the situation possible. Conducting the War on Terror, and using the government credit card to fund it. Stupid is as Stupid does. Spending like idiots, charging it, and this guy for president, who has a Ivy League M.B.A., signing off on everything that came his way. M.B.A., have you guys notice that all these idiots that created this financial mess have M.B.A. New blood is what the Republicans need. The old guard, you have lost credibility. Go B.O. go!! But be careful B.O., those Blue Dog Democrats may just turn out to be Guard Dogs also, that bite!

How can voters anywhere who claim to have God fearing family values vote for McCain?
McCain married Carol. He broke his marital promises to Carol. He broke his marital oaths to his God. He left Carol, who was physically disabled and broken, and his young family. They didn’t have much money. He married Cindy, a rich heiress. He’s used her family connections and money to build a political career. He may be an ex-prisoner of war who we owe reward to, like a pension and a lifetime of health care. No more or less than any other war vet. But ‘his’ honor’ does not extend beyond that unfortunate experience. Aside from that – he has no honor. Show me his honor before and after his military career. I see only lies and deception. Does that sound very presidential to you?

How about Biden saying in the debate that him and Obama they oppose gay marriage and then on the Ellen show says he is for it? What liars!
And yes, Obama is a socialist, I know it because I escaped from a place like that where mediocrity was rewarded and exceptionalism punished. For the same reason many brilliant people from all over the world fled to the US where they developed succesful lifes and businesses, yet a lot of the US population seems to have become more idiotic and without a clue of what is going on in the world. Go and live in a socialist country for a while then come back and tell us about Obama. God bless the United States its military and all the smart people that contribute to the country’s strenght!

I don’t think McCain can and will legally win the election. And, I suspect he doesn’t care how he wins….that’s just one more way he is like Bush….win at all and any cost. I certainly hope we all have learned from 2004

Well I cant wait till you Rethugs are shipped off to internment camps (the ones Haliburton built while Bush was in office)…
Let the reducation begin..a new glorious age is dawning! We must purge these republican infidels..we must line them up against the wall for mass executions…!
Damn…you neocons really have a warped view of democracy if you really think that. Really what I think is that you are genuinely against democracy and the fact that all people have valid input. Amazing to hear you scream about a one party democratic govt when you all plotted that yourself…just like everything you people do it backfired.
Frankly you really need to consider what form of government you cons really want. If its a democracy then you will have to deal with compromise or what you want is more authoritarian? A semi dictatorship?

Bottom line is- I voted Republi… can’t even say the whole word anymore, most of my life. I have followed this campaign from the start and all John and Silly Sarah have done is to try and defame Obama. Not once have I heard McCain or Palin tell us what they will do for this country-whether it is with or against Bush. And picking Palin….what the he.. was the guy on when he pulled that one out of his &*^.
I voted early today and when Democratic across the board… and I did it for the right reasons- information, history and my retirement money that Bush and his cronies will get away with!

The only thing that McCain can pull off is a “Liddy” – as in Gordon Liddy.
