Ciao to Official Dinners for Bush

ABC News’ Jennifer Duck and Ann Compton report: Although Monday night’s White House dinner in honor of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is not officially labeled a "State Dinner" because the Prime Minister is not the official head of government, it is full of the same frills and fanfare.

Officials say it is the last time President George W. Bush will host a foreign leader with a full arrival ceremony, greeting, and dinner in the State Dining Room.

The dinner has been long-planned but with economic pangs being felt around the world, it could be seen as not the best timing for an extravagant evening at the White House.

However both leaders addressed concerns with the economy today reassuring the world they have confidence in the global economy in the long term.

"America and Italy are working to stabilize global financial markets," Bush said standing alongside Berlusconi.

"These are tough times for our economies. Yet we can be confident that we can work our way through these challenges. And America will continue to work closely with the other nations to coordinate our response to this global financial crisis."

Prime Minister Berlusconi added, "the concerted and common action between the United States and Europe will certainly have chances to make the real economy — to prevent real economy from being affected by what has happened all over the world in the financial markets."

Bush has hosted only four "official visits" in his presidency according to the White House. The president and First Lady Laura Bush welcomed the Italian prime minister with a 19-gun salute and military officers walking in cadence playing both Italian and American national anthems.

Three other notable leaders have received similar welcomes in the president’s second term–Queen Elizabeth II, Pope Benedict XVI, and President John Kufuor of Ghana. However many leaders have attended working visits at Camp David and at the president’s ranch in Crawford, Texas.

Around 130 people are expected to attend tonight’s dinner and another 100 guests will be invited for champagne and entertainment.  Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson will not attend the dinner but his wife Wendy will be there.  Other guests include Vice President Cheney along with his daughters Elizabeth, Mary and Mary’s partner Heather Poe, Olympic gymnasts Alicia Sacramone and Mary Lou Retton-Kelley, Archbishop Pietro Sabmi, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and her husband, Justice Scalia and Justice Alito, singer Frankie Valli, race car driver Mario Andretti, and Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and his wife.

President Bush is the best president we have had in the last 20 years. So, ABC, and everyone that has anything to say, just keep it to yourselves. That is the least you can do. So do it.

President Bush is the best president we have had in the last 20 years. Now if you listen to ABC you will find all of those people so liberal it is unreal. They want to elect Obama so whatever and whenever they have to say, they will. President Bush is certainly a man of character and morals which is debatable in the one running, would you not say?

President Bush is the worst president in the history of the nation – get over it!

Janice – He may have ment well, but his mind was far too simple to understand the complexities of what he is emmersed in, especially with regards to foreign policy. Arrogance and recklessness are not qualities to be admired. The money for Iraq could have been used to build a new city with skyscrapers. Sometimes you got to look at the big picture.

You’re right Janice, Bush certainly is the best at ruining not only his own country but the world!

Yes Janice Bush has been wonderful if you’re a Democrat because he has exposed teh hollow and dark heart of teh neo con agenda…
As far as ABC news is concerned.. they didn’t give Bush the worst ever postive ratings bar just one and THE worst negitive ratings ever. Bush has left Amercia a shell of a nation, eaten away from the inside. No allies, no economy. For such a great nation he’s been a disaster and whoever wins in November will have an nearly impossible task of giving it CPR.

When people in our country are close to the edge of poverty, Mr. Bush has not let us down and is having the glorious spectacle of the year entertaining a few. What a way to end his career showing his constant great judgement calls. I hope the starving and homeless people don`t hear of this, but my prayers are with them on these cold nights. I am sure he just had to go with the plans, since he always has tunnel vision and can only do one thing at a time and that it is only if he agrees and wants to do it. God forbid, that he is being forced to do something someone else wants him to do. At least he is actually welcoming another country to enjoy our cooking in a grandway and the guest list is out of sight.

Clinton handed over all the classified breifings about Osama bin-Laden and his terrorist oganizations to Bush, and he decided to ignore them. So, he is directly responsible for 9/11 and the state of the world since then. I know you neo-cons are so proud of his carnage!

Not only that, Bin Laden had been trying to get the US into Afghanistan for years, which he calls the ‘graveyard of empires’.. as the saying goes, fools rush in where wise men fear to tread.. guess who rushed in, with a ‘token’ force, and then when public opinion started to fade, rushed into Iraq as a distraction.

Heck in less than 100 days he is going to leave us all to fend for ourselves …
What a lovely day that will be even to the homeless …
Hopefully we will be saying goodbye to his policies also in the form of a McCain defeat …

George Bush is without doubt the biggest ignoramus president we’ve ever had. He’s a buffoon of the highest order and the only “state dinner” he deserves is a sack of lukewarm White Castle sliders left over from a slow weekend. I’d even donate a buck or two to the cause.

I think Bush accelerated the demise of neo conservatism. Obama would not have a chance at the presidency had it not been Bush’s total stupidity and hubris. Our school children are overwhelmingly pro-Obama. Conservatism is childless.

PUT THE VOTING PEOPLE’S MONEY TO BETTER USE. DONATE ALL THE MONEY BEING SPENT SHAMELESSLY TO THE MIDDLECLASS WHO WILL BE EATING BEANS AND WEINERS TONIGHT. Over the weekend, I came across several newspaper stories where over 40% of the contributions to the Obama campaign is under questions. It seems that much of that money has come from foreign sources and rebundled by Obama’s workers. This is illegal. Obama is sure not a very honest guy. Foreign money contributions and ACORN fraud–he gonna win any way he can. Shame on him. He is really a very immoral and corrupt man. He has flushed decency and truth down the toliet.

– Foreign money contributions and ACORN fraud –
There is no provision about where the money comes from. It is perfectly legal.
As for ACORN, what does that have to do with Obama? ACORN were the ones who reported the bogus registrations in the first place, and have terminated the employees who did it.
And while McCain likes to claim tenuous links to ACORN regarding Obama, he neglects his own.. here is what ACORN has to say about that:
October 13, 2008, Miami, FL – U.S. Senator John McCain’s recent attacks on the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) are puzzling given his historic support for the organization and its efforts on behalf of immigrant Americans. As recently as February 20, 2006, Senator McCain was the keynote speaker at an ACORN-sponsored Immigration Rally in Miami, Florida at Miami Dade College – Wolfson Campus.
And here is a link to the press release regarding the above mentioned rally:

Just more smear coming out of the GOP in order to distract from the issues.

When Obama is being sworn in as President, remember who put him there. Never has a candidate for President been promoted by the media the way Obama has. It’s been beyond manipulative … it’s been purposeful, with a clear pattern of bias readily apparent to Hillary supporters in the primaries and now to McCain supporters in the general election campaign. Obama is not qualified to be President and CIC. The media knows this, so what is behind their promotion of him? Sadly, we’ll never know until it’s too apparent to be contained by them.

shorelinedr…just because many of us sre suffering doen’t mean life has to come to a halt. Bush did phenominal job for economy and in very short time. I myself lost all i had and took a while to recoup but i don’t wish the same for others and neither should you. Bush was never the problem, really, but his advisors and informers. i blame Cheney more than Mr. Bush, and feel bad that he was scapegoat for many of us. Give him credit for the economy fix, please, and for withstanding all the pushing and shocking by the world. He is only as good as those around him and this man never stopped. He showed courage and strenght and a willingness to do well. Not sure many people would survive under the pressure as he did, so in his last few months, let’s give him respect for that. If we were mislead about the war, has it occured to you that he was also mislead. The people I am now concerned with are the people who will go thru what i have and for those people all i can say is they will be ok ounce they accept their unfortunate fate. it took i while to digest the lost when i worked day and night, 2 and 3 jobs at times while attending college to feel as a failure after all. I don’t feel that way now, and am ok starting over as i’m always for a challenge. Hope they have a great dinner and hope all countries come together. I love Mr. McCain and hope Obama becomes president some day, but just not right now as we are still devided and race should not be a factor in deciding who becomes president. Mr McCain has the experience and respect we need to get us back on track. I feel good about our futures and wish everyone well, just wish i could take the pain away for those who will go thru a tought time, but it won’t last, I promise. Goodnight

i think you will all be surprised about bin laden and his true identity. reson i say this is because i was an innocent target and in trying to defend myself and getting to bottom of things i believe i know who he is. if i’m correct, he is greek, and is in prison.don’t quote me please, it’s just after my research he looks very familiar to a picture of someone in a turkish orthodox church and is brother of Bhutto. Remember her? Again, this could be a coincidence and the pictures are somewhat blurred. I have a feeling someone will bring him to justice shortly or he himself may come forth as he had time to rethink what he’s done to the world. If he’s a man he should come forward, jerk. I still would like to know why i was a target and in fighting for myself did all i could to get truth, but still not sure, but have others working on it just in case. If this is true it may be best to hold anyway, and this is why only he can come forward as he is criminal and a coward for hiding. anyone can do what he did, jerk, jerk…

@ellis copeland
First– the presidency has been vacant since noon on Jan 20 2001, as there has been no valid election.
WRONG – the election was decided by the Supreme Court, as prescribed in the Constitution. The fact that the state of Florida did not give in to the Democratic party’s attempts at having improper ballots considered for voter “intent” is notwithstanding. If folks are too stupid to know how to mark a ballot, they deserve to have their vote disqualified.
Second– the imposter pretending to the office has been the WORST in the history of the Republic. Not only is he stupid, he is a LIAR, a COWARD, a CRIMINAL, a DRUNK, and a COKE HEAD
Well, if you admire the embarrasment from Arkansas who seemed to think that the Oval Office was a place for sexual favors then, that explains your remark.
Third– ABC is nearly as right wing as Faux News.
Anything that disagrees with the far-left extremist liberal faction of the Democratic party is seen as “right-wing”.
Fourth– the one Janice undoubtedly believes should win this election is an ADULTEROUS LIAR, and he KNOWINGLY DENOUNCED the US as a POW (so much for honorable service)
McCain has had my vote since he announced his candidacy and, on his worst day, is better than the JUNIOR SENATOR from Illinois who has ABSOLUTELY NO ACCOMPLISHMENTS and has held NO LEADERSHIP POSITIONS within his own house of Congress and his party is in control!!
As McCain said more than once, he doesn’t need on-the-job training. While Mr Obama was training the wacko ACORN volunteers in how to pressure banks to give loans to people who can’t afford them, McCain was a legislator in our federal government.

Sexual favors dates back much further than Clinton.. it was just that after spending tons of taxpayer money and years of effort to try and find anything against the man, that was the best they could come up with.
Of course, lets forget that when he left office we had a federal surplus, expanding economic growth, one of the lowest unemployment rates of our generation, more jobs created and the first balanced budget in how many years?
Yup, he was indeed a terrible president.

The china and silverware for this White House dinner were purchased quite some time ago. The cooks and servers were hired well before the current economic situation went south. The menus were settled and the food was already ordered. Events such as these at the White House take place frequently (look at the pictures in the books co-authored by presidents’ wives as far back as Mrs. Kennedy). There are still three months to go for this administration. Doesn’t the report that this is to be the last of such dinners suggest that they really are pulling back on the entertainment?

This is to the person who is longstreet. I can not believe that you can ask that kind of a question. This is 2008 not 1950′s or 60′s for that matter. That is truly an ugly question.I am a white woman, who also happens to be a military wife and I would never vote for McCain not because he is 72 years old but that he does not have a plan to help this country.Palin made woman who were raped pay for their own rape kits, etc. Those kinds of things are unacceptable to me and hopefully unacceptable to others as well.I want someone who will stand up for me and my family and help us have more money at the end of the month. I don’t want someone who is only going to help the rich get richer I think we had enough of that in the last 8 years, don’t ya think?

The attack on the USS Cole. What did he do? NOTHING! (Lobbed a few cruise missiles. Yawn…
Now, the surplus. It’s not surprising that you would claim that for him… It was actually Reagan’s tax policies that led to higher government tax revenues which ultimately led to the surplus.

By contrast, it was Clinton’s tax increase and burden shifting to the higher income taxpayers that ultimately led to the recession of 2001.

In related news:
Title: “GOP in push to erase voters; purges ACORN over drive to register low income”
Exerpt:
“Republican leaders in New Mexico raised the same claims against an ACORN registration drive in the last presidential vote. Then they tried to pressure New Mexico’s U.S. attorney, David Iglesias, an appointee of President Bush, to bring a voter fraud indictment just before the 2006 congressional election.
After an investigation, Iglesias concluded there wasn’t enough evidence. A few months later, he was fired by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales in what became a big Justice Department scandal.
Last week, the department’s inspector general concluded the firing was “engineered” by former White House aide Karl Rove and New Mexico’s Republican Sen. Pete Domenici for Iglesias’ refusal to pursue voter fraud indictments.

I doubt this will be the last one. I doubt Bush will leave office next year w/o resisting. He has been a de facto dictator throughout his term, and he might make it official.
Within months of entering office, he consolidated Presidential powers not seen since WWII, and over seven years he has relinquished none of them, but rather has had them expanded.
The Supreme Court has ruled against him on a number of items, including handling of prisoners at Gitmo. With very few exceptions, he has ignored the rulings. Congress has stopped him on NOTHING.
He has made it clear in his pronouncements that no entity should hinder him in what he wants to do. He believes he alone knows what is best.
Under Bush we have ONE branch of government regardless of how the Constitution reads.
I hope I am wrong. But am I on what has happened up to now?

Janice, has it occurred to you yet why everyone is telling you your comments are really out of this world? Either you’ve been living in a hole for the last several years or you’re seriously retarded. Bush is not even competent to be head of a community organization, let alone the most powerful nation on earth.

Are you out of your mind? In the 8 years that Reagan was in office, he skyrocketed the federal deficit from just under $1 trillion to over $2.6 trillion.. more than all other presidents before him combined!
Reganomics is a failed policy.. history has shown it going back to the guy who coined it, Hoover in 1927, which was a large part of the great depression.

Posted by: Concerned American | October 14, 2008, 1:39 am 1:39 am

Bush is intelligent and very clever. He has been screwing people even as they are talking about how stupid he is.
Yes, it he was trying to do something for the USA, then his actions would be deemed stupid. But if he has been looking out for himself, his actions have been perfect.
He has probably pocketed a billion or more dollars for himself from the invasion and occupation of Iraq. That and what his friends have scammed can be used to greatly influence what happens in the US well after he and we are dead.
He is is very dangerous, but not stupid.

Posted by: Bugg | October 14, 2008, 1:41 am 1:41 am

Yes, Reagan was one of the biggest budget busters of all time.
And all the time he was sinking us into debt, he was calling for a Balanced Budget Amendment, an hypocrisy which the sheep ate up. He was slicker than Willie.

Justataxpayer–
You have obviously never read the US Constitution as it does NOT provide ANY role for the Supreme Court in deciding US elections– the last two of which were outright FRAUDS.
I didn’t mention or refer to Bill Clinton, but since you did– he was a hell of a lot better than Dumbot.
BTW– it is a documented FACT that Dumbot’s granddaddy Prescot was a domestic terrorist who plotted the violent overthrow of the US government during the 30′s. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
If McNuts wants to screech about character then the fact that he is a LYING ADULTERER is relevent because it shows him to be the vile hypocrite that he is. And you can watch the propaganda tapes he made for the VC. He is a Goddamn TRAITOR.

Ellis Copeland:
It’s tough to know exactly what went on with McCain as a POW. (Yes, we do know about what you posted.)
But given that only family intervention kept McCain from being expelled from the academy or from losing his wings later, that Mccain treated career officers with contempt while at the academy just because he could, and that he has said he enjoyed the privileges of being a pilot but not the work, …… it is highly unlikely that Mccain gave his captors much resistance.

Obama is a national nightmare waiting to happen! If all of these Kool-Aid drinking, delusional Obama supporters would stay in a crack-smoke induced haze and stay home on election day, this country will have dodged a major bullet! If not, God Help Us!

Janice, can you name one good thing Bush has done for this country? Please don’t say the tax cuts because cutting taxes while increasing spending is what a drunk sailor does, not a leader.
Well, there is Africa.
Andrew Johnson is still the worst President ever for dropping Lincoln’s reconstruction ball.

Janice remind Brian that the US has not been attacked by those slimmy middle eastern terrorists since 9/11 for one.

Good for you George, let the champagne flow and enjoy your meal. These stupid liberal jerks would feel better if you took the Prime Minister to Burger King. And please if the economy isn’t booming around Christmas time don’t turn the lights out on the National Tree like Jimmy (the grinch) Carter did. uugghh!
