Citing Space Constraints, Obama Campaign Kicks Off the Plane Reporters from Newspapers Whose Coverage it Doesn’t Like

The Obama campaign has told three reporters they have to drop off the campaign plane this weekend. All three work for papers that endorsed Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.: the New York Post, the Washington Times, and the Dallas Morning News.

"Unfortunately, demand for seats on the plane during this final weekend has far exceeded supply," Obama campaign spox Anita Dunn said, "and because of logistical issues we made the decision not to add a second plane. This means we’ve had to make hard and unpleasant for all concerned decisions about limiting some news organizations and in some cases not being in a position to offer space to news organizations altogether."

The New York Post has the sixth largest circulation of any American newspaper, with almost 700,000 print readers a day.

The Washington Times website is one of the top 20 news websites in the country, and its largest readership resides in the battleground state of Virginia.

But the Obama campaign is not a fan of the coverage afforded it by the New York Post or the Washington Times.

Officials of the campaign insist that that has nothing to do with the decision. The Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times wanted to have more reporters on board, they say.

Fox News and the Wall Street Journal still have folks on the plane, it has been pointed out.

One of the reasons there are fewer seats on "O Force One," of course, is because months ago they ripped out coach seats for the staffers up front replacing them with First Class barcalounger-esque accommodations.

“But the Obama campaign is not a fan of the coverage afforded it by the New York Post or the Washington Times. ”
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Do you have specific examples of this coverage Jake?
Can you quote an Obama campaign source to support the claim you make in your headline?
Have your “journalistic” standards dropped so low, that you would print a story based solely on your personal opinion and comments about seats?
Are you really claiming that the Obama campaign would wait until there are only 4 DAYS left before the election to object to this coverage by pulling the seats? What would be the point of that?
This story just proves that it is time for everyone – candidates and reporters – to spend some time apart.

Wow. For a party who cries effigies of a female VP, video games of a terrorist shooting the current President, and foul mouthed screeds by comedians and entertainers as free speech, they sure don’t value actual free speech much.
How Orwellian and not to mention hypocritical in the case of those who were crying out about Palin even discussing banning books with Wasilla’s librarian.

Dallas Morning News, the race isn’r competitive in TX. NY Post, Does he need help in NY, does this rag have an audiance ouitside of NY? Washingtom Post, perhaps it is just they don’t like the coverage.
So he makes room for press he can use, smart move.

Let’s see:
– Obama uses thug tactics in Missouri to use taxfunded police to arrest anyone speaking negative of him.
– Obama supporters inundate Chicago interview of Stanley Kurtz with calls, even though Kurtz spoke from facts.
– Biden has a bad interview in Florida, station gets banned
– Biden has a bad interview in Philly, station gets banned.
– New Yorker posts cover cartoon of Obama that is not flattering, they get banned from plane.
– Large papers endorse mcCain, they get banned.
– Bill Burton attacks Foxnews for reporting on the 2001 Obama interview, Burton attacks Fox, but doesn’t attack the person who found the interview, nor the candidate himself for making the comemnts.
– the is clear bias toward Obama by the media, but he whines and gets mad if anyone says the slightest thing negative about him, usually calling it racist.
Do you see a trend? That anyone who speaks against The One gets some sort of punishment? What is going to happen to America when The One is given full power?
Be afraid, be very afraid Americans, if you are stupid enough to elect Obama, our country will be destroyed.
I love America too much, do you?

Something else for McCain to talk about other than the issues…..Economy, Taxes, or anything other than talking about Pro AMERICA or THESE AMERICAN’S. I AM AN AMERICAN period…. STOP THE HATE

“replacing them with First Class barcalounger-esque accommodations”

– And the Wash. Times has actually not been 100% in the tank for McCain, FYI.

The New York Post was the one who reported the lie that Michelle Obama chowed down on lobster and caviar at the Waldorf-Astoria. They later had to retract the story.
It goes both ways. McCain banned reporters Maureen Dowd and Joe Klein from his plane. In the case of Klein, they said he didn’t apply for credential in time.

A man who spends that much on frivolous campaign infomercials and ads in states where he is winning and then has his spox say ‘logistics’ are the excuse, well that is hypocrisy or just lame.
But it’s his plane. The logo says so. And on Tuesday, it may become ‘his’ country and his logo too. It may become pretty harsh for his critics.

McCain kicked Klein off his plane; and I’m willing to bet that a lot of other media people haven’t been allowed on his plane or Palin’s to begin with. A campaign plane is a lot like a “war room” where you want your friends and like-minded folks around you, not your enemies to eavesdrop and manufacture fuel for the rumor mills.

I used to support Barack Obama, but the reason Gov. Palin is viewed so unfavorably by the public is because the mainstream media premised it so. Did you see that CNN interview where a CNN reporter puportedly “quoted” a promininent conservative as saying Gov. Palin is stupid and corrupt, when in fact the prominent conservative said the media made her out to be stupid and corrupt? Viewers are left with the validation that, hey, even a prominent conservative thinks she’s stupid and corrupt, therefore, she must be… and by guilt-by-association, Sen. McCain must lack judgement, too. Did you see the Katie Couric interview? For the week leading up to the broadcast, they showed snippets, like the Obama campaign butchering Sen. McCain’s quotes, they showed snippets that made Gov. Palin look clueless, but when they showed the entire interview, she was coherent! Gov. Palin answered the questions just like Sen. Obama’s style: detailed and elaborated. Did you see Charlie Gibson’s interview? Mr. Gibson asked Gov. Palin, “what do you think of the Bush Doctrine?” and when Gov. Palin replied, “which one, and which part, Charlie?” Mr. Gibson made that John Stewart, “are you stupid?” appalled look. The fact is, the mainstream media has coined a myriad of distinct foreign policies as “Bush Doctrine”s, from spreading freedom and democracy to pre-emptive strikes. And now, the LA Times is bragging about holding back a video of Sen. Obama praising an unapologetic terrorist, whom to this day he calls a “respected scholar,” as if an Ivy League professorship justifies his terroristic behavior, because he is someone better than us regular people, us small-town Americans who cling to our Second Amendment and faith as a way to explain our bitterness and frustrations. The fact is this: we don’t know enough about Sen. Obama, and that is not a McCain talking point. It is the truth, and not just the arguable truth, and not just it-happens-to-be truth, it is the truth by design, because the mainstream media knows that if the American people got to know who Sen. Obama is, they would find it relevant and appalling.

You may understand why they kick you off if you understand what class struggle is:
The ideal of sharing wealth, equalizing class divide has been so powerful, sweeping half a Europe and Asia and South America in the first half of the 20th Century.
The ideals of Marxism are not necessarily wrong; in fact, they are extremely appealing, and the history of the 20th century is a proof.
Yet, none of the practitioners have achieved their noble causes, each has left millions dead, in smaller places like Vietnam and Cambodia, and 10s of millions in larger states. The only major survivor of this practice is China, who has adopted Capitalism by all means except some certain rights that we enjoy here as granted – which is a different topic.
Socialism, a precursor of Communism, has never had a chance being practiced in the US. Progressive taxing is Not socialism, and charity and creating opportunities for the common good are not communism either.
Few really know what socialism is, but what 0bama wants to do IS socialism.
0bama is masterfully adopting the classic class divide of Karl Marx, playing one class – the 95% of the poor – against another class – the rich, the 5% to achieve his ambition.
It is not progressive taxation that makes 0bama a socialist.
It is the class struggle, stupid.

And if trying to protect the middle class from the predatory aristocracy is “class warfare,” then so be it.

What about free speech? The media decided weeks ago who was going to win this election. Seems to me that they are trying their best to discourage people who may want to vote for someone other than Obama from going to the polls. All we hear is how many are voting early and the most voters are demaocrats. Seems like they are trying to convince everyone that because the majority are Democrats that they are voting for Obama. Well, this Democrat along with other Democrats will be voting for the best qualified person who happens to be McCain. So much for ABC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

d0: “The ideal of sharing wealth, equalizing class divide has been so powerful, ”
…it is the basis of every first world nation’s government in the world (perhaps barring the under-1 million folks in Iceland with their 36% tax rate – and an explicitly socialist government). Are you really so dim as to think this is coincidence? That the rich, wealthy and powerful have all gravitated to first world nations with a progressive, spread the wealth tax structure?
It is the ONLY governmental system found in mankinds history to be both free and stable. But the Republican Party of Ignorance counts on it’s base to not be able to understand that simple lesson of history.
Going back to the tax rates used under President Clinton in the 90′s and the capital gains tax rate enacted by Reagan in the late 80′s is in NO WAY marxism.

I don’t know if there was/is a list of the media reps that are on the plane for each of the campaigns, and the choice of papers that have endorsed the opposition (of either candidate) doesn’t end with those three I’m sure.
Who would you have picked? Why? And is it “fair” to choose or would a candidate be constrained to choices that won’t rile the opposition supporters?

Posted by: shalom | October 31, 2008, 1:14 pm 1:14 pm

I didn’t say that McCain doing the same thing wasn’t wrong, I was commenting on the Obama supporters who were making out like it wasn’t a big deal, whereas in cases where it had been against them (Klein) it was a huge deal.
The hypocrisy was exactly what I was pointing out.

Obama does not believe in freedom of speech, or freedom of the press. He holds the press hostage, either by threatening them with the “race card” or by threatening to exclude them, like he did here. Remember that he excluded ABCNEWs from hosting later debates after he didn’t like questions Stephanopolis posed at the debate with Hillary.
Don’t vote Obama. He opposes our constitutional rights.

All Hail Socialist Obama ! ! Already, like many Socialist before him, he’s trying to gag the free press. Given that the same “Free Press” have been overtly bias in favor of Obama, now he is turning on the same press that helped him get to this level. That’s exactly what past Dictators have done. R3ead your history. Obama if a fraud, a liar and a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

It’s frighteningly communist not to decide to have a reporter from the Chicago Sun Times instead of the New York Post? Have you ever read the New York Post? Is it frighteningly communist to kick Maureen Dowd (New York Times) and Joe Klein (Time) off the McCain/Palin planes? Silly, silly, silly.
Giving $700 Billion to Wall Street and nationalizing banks and mortgage companies is socialism. So is deciding that petroleum in Alaska belongs to the state:
“And Alaska we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.” “We share in the wealth.” Sarah Palin You sure do. Alaska is its own little commune.

Posted by: Mara | October 31, 2008, 1:17 pm 1:17 pm

“It is the class struggle (that maks 0bama a socialist), stupid.”, which I add it back:

Mr. Tapper,
BTW, this article is near perfectly spun to solicit a “they’re against the others that don’t agree” response. Couldn’t you do one concerning Sen. McCain that would convey the same ‘flavor’. It’s certainly not mis-information but it is presented with facts that belie the issue, who would be chosen, by whom and what effect it would have on the remainder of the campaign. I am sure the reporters for the NYPost and the WashTimes do not feel the least bit ‘slighted’, in truth but I may be wrong.

Posted by: The InfoBro | October 31, 2008, 1:18 pm 1:18 pm

Two in a row! If you keep this up, McCain might actually win in Arizona!
(But you should report on this behavior when McCain does it.)

Posted by: Blip | October 31, 2008, 1:19 pm 1:19 pm

Missing Information from Mr. Tapper: #595 in a Series:
Several weeks ago, the McCain campaign kicked both Maureen Dowd and Joe Klein off their campaign planes. Space was not a issue. Both Dowd and Klein had been critical of Mr. McCain’s incredible VP choice, Sarah Palin. Now, why didn’t Mr. Tapper mention this? It seems pretty relevant to the topic.

Posted by: birdy | October 31, 2008, 1:20 pm 1:20 pm

I am not surprised about Obama’s behavior. He wants this to be a communist country and is already showing his true colors.
He wants to do away with that pesky Constitution, he will pull a Hugo Chavez if he gets in, no more term limits and any opposition will be jailed. His police will take over and anyone that voices their approval of Obama and his socialist, Marxist policies will be condemned.
No one will be allowed to question him.. Is this really what we want in a leader? They don’t want it in Venezeula, North Korea, Vietnam, Soviet Union….Immigrants come here for our freedoms and opportunity’s, to get away from their communist states. But here we are letting a communist lead us blindly to slaughter with his Hope and Change mantra.

Um, how about when he said..”uh, as you can see, I . . . I don’t look like any other president on the money.” He looked at the African diplomats in the front row. “The U.S. money — not your money, of course.”

Obama has the right to ask these people to leave the olane, after all it is his plane. And for those who call him a socialist, you need to think about you grandparents that depend on a check every month to live on. I know my grandparents are barely making it and it hurts them to have to depend on family members to pay for medication and dr. visits. Stop and think about those who worked their entire lives and now they have to choose between food and medication. If you want to think of helping people that have supported this country with their tax dollars then it is your choice but I pray you can look yourself in the mirror when McCain is elected and social sercurity is gone!

* Conservatives have a big imagination. In fact, for some reason they believe America is theirs and only theirs.. but what they don’t realize is they are the reason why we are where are today.
What we really are voting for are the policies of the past two Presidents.
Clinton VS Bush
we have a $7500 increase in annual income under Clinton
we have a $2000 decline in annual income under Bush
** You who are voting for McCain will continue to lose money. The smart people will relive the prosperity we enjoyed during Clinton years.

Did you just get to this country? He doesn’t look like aany previous POTUS, to my knowledge.
Appearance, age, faith and all manner of information has been used in pass elections to marginalize the opposition of the more ‘status quo’ candidate. It’s an obvious not even intellectual observation. Really, I can’t believe you would think of that as the proverbial “race card”. It’s merely the truth. I have never seen or read a reporter “back down” or be cowed by an observation. Neither have I seen any indication that the MSM won’t address this issue, where do you get that impression? Again, amazing people, we’re not on the playground…curb the hyperbole, this is supposed to be a serious deliberative process.

birdie Yes the grannies are happy to collect their rightful social security checks as McCain protects them. Now let me ask you this have you actually seen Obamas tax plan for seniors? Website QUOTE “eliminating Income taxes for seniors making less than $50,000. Barack Obama will eliminate all income taxation for seniors making less than $50,00 per year. This will eliminate taxes for 7 million seniors saving them an average $1,400 a year and will also mean that 27 million seniors will not need to file income tax return at all.” Now let me ask you this. Do you know that there are many wealthy seniors( I believe age 62+)have a$50,000 stock dividend income which in return means they have a multimillion dollar stock portfolio? And Obama mister middle class is going to have them exempt from filing. No wonder so many wealthy Florida retirees have jumped over to Obama. With a vote getter plan like this. So please tell me with him eliminating taxes from this wealthy base who is going to carry the burden? The middle class families?

speaking of fox news , has anybody else noticed that they are getting ready for the obama presidency?
they are now all about changing their image and toning down the anti liberal rhetoric ,tick by tick.
just like the republicans , who are so despised by most americans now that they cant even RUN or CAMPAIGN as a republican. they have to use deceit to even get a vote for dogcatcher…pathetic and typical republican behavior.
they leave their party affiliation or any mention of it OFF of their ads and flyers ,and use democratic blue to confuse the nonchalant voter and hopefully steal a few democratic votes along the way.
elizabeth dole in nc and virginia foxx ,both nc republican incumbents, are both examples of lying republicans who will do or say anything to stay in office and keep reaming everyone.i have personally recently heard them telling bold faced lies and republican tall tales that are so crazy only whacko republican crazies COULD believe it.
amazing…
anyway ,have fun today republican cheater/liars because new laws are going to be made very soon to require republicans (and democrats) to 100% inform voters what party they are affiliated with ,in all contacts or ads.

**We wished for Bush in 2000 and 2004. We now realized back then we should have been careful what we wished for. We’re taking the blanket off our eyes and voting for some who’s real and cares for our nation.

If Obama is the future of the Democrats I want nothing to do with them.
Starting with Hillary they became the party of thugery and mean-spirited attacks.
With attacks on a simple man for asking a question to vile attacks on an opponents family.
Obama and Biden mocking the dreams of a plumber, arrogantly lecturing us on how to live, and boldly telling us who to give our money to.
Liberals/Democrats have proven to be anything but open-minded except to embrace racist pastors and domestic terrorist.
Led by Obama they are nothing more than the party of lies and intimidation.

If Obama wins, his first step will be to throw them out of the country. So this really isn’t that big of a deal.
The man simply cannot tolerate anybody who doesn’t view him as “the one”

Posted by: howwouldiknow | October 31, 2008, 1:57 pm 1:57 pm

His REAL NAME is “JOE THE UNLICENSED PLUMBER WHO JOHN MCCAIN WOULD TAX MORE THAN OBAMA WOULD.” See, Joe only makes $40,000 a year. (For you right wing math majors out there, 40,000 is less than 250,000.) The company he works for ALSO makes less than $250,000 a year.
Joe was LYING. Get it? LYING. And so are McCain and Palin.
When you give tax breaks to working Americans who will spend it on stuff they need, instead of to billionaires who will just stash it in offshore bank accounts, you are stimulating the economy, increasing corporate earnings, and yes, “spreading the wealth”. That’s not socialism, that’s CAPITALISM. That’s not anti-American, that’s PRO-AMERICAN.

Sorry, Blip. You’re mistaken. He warned on June 21st that the Republicans would attack his race. He said in Jacksonville:
“It is going to be very difficult for Republicans to run on their stewardship of the economy or their outstanding foreign policy. We know what kind of campaign they’re going to run. They’re going to try to make you afraid.
They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?”
He played it, played it first (unless you count Hillary’s camp), and the MSM has made a point of making everything about it ever since.

More fear tactics from the Right, painting all of these “Gloom & Doom” scenarios. Obama is proposing a roll back of the Bush tax cuts, which have been proven to be a failed experiment. I am old enough to remember life before Bush. I don’t recall, at any point, the seas boiling, the mountains crumbling or cats living with dogs. I chuckle when I see these posters try to justify a weak argument by attaching an “ist” or “ism” to it. To put it in perspective, we are a country of Capital”ists” that carry 25% of the world’s debt. We’ve supported regimes in the interest of promoting Democracy, yet eventually the weapons we send end up in the hands of Terror”ists”. Additionally, there is no question that without elements of Social”ism”, our infrastructure would fail. Do you ever go to the library? How about the hospital? Do you drive on the highway? Do you expect a “Social” security check when you retire? I’ll take it if you don’t want it. And, to top it off, most people don’t really understand the true meaning of Socialism or Marxism, they are just spouting off the same rhetoric that they’ve been spoon fed by the Right for decades. Any tax, on it’s face, is a redistribution of wealth. McCain himself has been quoted as saying he didn’t agree with the Bush tax cuts, citing the same reasons as Obama. Do we now have selective memory? I doubt that everyone in this forum makes over $250K a year. You would be helped under the Obama tax plan. These labels are just a way to divide us. They have no bearing on the current state of affairs. Would you have called Reagan a Socialist? Wake up people! Don’t fall for it this year! Vote Obama/Biden!

The New Party was a Marxist political coalition whose objective was to endorse and elect leftist public officials — most often Democrats. The New Party’s short-term objective was to move the Democratic Party leftward, thereby setting the stage for the eventual rise of new Marxist third party.
Most New Party members hailed from the Democratic Socialists of America and the militant organization ACORN. The party’s Chicago chapter also included a large contingent from the Committees of Correspondence, a Marxist coalition of former Maoists, Trotskyists, and Communist Party USA members.

the party’s own statement of its principles is clearly socialist. For example:
* The establishment, defense, and facilitation of worker, consumer, shareholder, and taxpayer rights to democratic self-organization.
* The democratization of our banking and financial system-including popular election of those charged with public stewardship of our banking system, worker-owner control over their pension assets, community-controlled alternative financial institutions. [Ed.: Hey, we may be in the process of "achieving" that one, and during a Republican administration, too!]
* Full employment, a shorter work week, and a guaranteed minimum income for all adults; a universal “social wage” to include such basic benefits as health care, child care, vacation time, and lifelong access to education and training; a systematic phase-in of comparable worth and like programs to ensure gender equity.

Now, now, birdy. Here I was good enough to supply a date and an exact quote from Obama and you want to try and blow it off with an unsubstantied claim like that. Tsk tsk. Hardly fair. I thought fairness is the new direction.
Senator Obama was barely on Ann’s radar. She was railing against the Republican candidates because none of them were conservative enough for her. And she even talked about throwing her support to Hillary, thinking she would be the DNC’s choice.
If you have quotes, I’ll be happy to publicly apologize, but the first time I heard raced mentioned negatively was after the Carolina primary and it was Bill Clinton who did it, not a Republican.

What I love are the towering intellectual giants that have concluded that three reporters left off the gravy plane leads inevitably to the imposition of prison camps and thought police. Hoo! What’s in YOUR Kool-Aid? ‘Cause I gotta tell ya, nothing we’re drinking on this side is anywhere near THAT good!
There’s no constitutional right to hitch a ride on a candidate’s plane. I wish there was – as a writer for ABCNews.com (in a manner of speaking), I would love to avail myself of such.
Alas for me and for thousands of writers that actually get, you know, paid to write, the criteria to ride the gravy plane is solely determined by the campaign which is, you know, PAYING for it. And the campaign always cherry-picks the press to their own advantage. That’s a given. Might as well complain that Rutherford B. Hayes wouldn’t let the Daily Telegraph writer on board the train during his last whistle-stop campaign.
It’s a political campaign. It’s not a mass-transit program for disadvantaged journalists.

The HUGE difference between Republican sins and Democratic sins is the party identification.
When McCain gives money to someone like Khalidi… it is no big deal. When Obama says something nice about the guy… it is a huge deal.
When McCain says something nice about ACORN… it is no big deal. When Obama gives ACORN money… it is a huge deal.
The only consistent thing here is this: All of the smears are coming from one place: McCain.
McCain attacks with some baseless guilt-by -association attack, swearing up and down that the sky is falling. Obama supporters respond by correctly noting that McCain is also associated with the very same figures!
The point of it all: Just ignore the McCain smears. They mean nothing, except that McCain is hiding from the real issues by running a sleazy campaign.

How on earth are you going to provide a tax cut to 95% of Americans when over 40% do not pay taxes? Of those remainder 55%, a good portion only pay payroll taxes, which under the “Ones” plan, you will never see more than $500 back and that is pending you owe nothing! Hmmmmmmmmmmm
Health Insurance, just how does Obama plan to implement a Universal Health Care coverage? Do you think the middle class will get stuck with that bill?…I think so…..But, all we have to do is look at Hawaii and see that they folded up that tent because it did not work and cost TOOOOOOOOO much MONEY!
Moving on, how on earth does he plan on paying for his $1 Trillion shopping spree? Do you suppose the middle class tax payers will foot that bill?? I think so.
And what about education? Well, all one has to do is see where Obama sent $50 million dollars….yes, that was not to the public schools for math and science but rather to the charter schools of AYERS choice. Yes, there is proof so lay off the smart remarks!

So, they are talking nasty and paranoid, to whip up the base to go and Tget out the vote. The biggest concern is that the GOP is going to lose seet in deep red turf.
They, most of them, anyways, don’t actually believe that Obama is a communist… or that he pals around with terrorists… or that he has a secret mistress… or that he was born in Africa. They are just talking because it is coming down to the wire and they are afraid that the Dems are going to get their filibuster-proof majority and pick up a bunch of house and local seats.
Now, does this awareness trickle down to their audience… not totally. But my point is, don’t take it personally. It’s just a manipulation strategy they are employing. Sure, it’s negative. Sure, it’s deceptive. But it isn’t authentic.

“The only consistent thing here is this: All of the smears are coming from one place: McCain.”
The only “consistant thing” is that libs ignore legit citizens/media asking questions, blow them off and claim that the questioning comes directly from the opposing party. The questions about Khalidi have been asked in the past by concerned voters, long before McCain made it an issue. And, of course, how does McCain’s involvement excuse Obama’s? How do you think that sort of “two wrongs” argument makes those of us who are indys feel? We don’t count?

WHO CARES ABOUT KHALIDI!! Khalidi is a U.S. BORN CITIZEN who is a middle east expert who is sometimes critical of Israel’s actions just as I don’t like the war in Iraq. Who Cares??? The reason it’s being used is because Khalidi has a foreign sounding name and Palin and McCain are trying to dress it up as some scary thing. Khalidi is more of a patriot than Sarah Palin will ever be as he actually bothered to get an education and contribute to society.

Racism nowadays is too often used as an excuse. We’re in 2008! Obama is about to be elected. Is America still a racist country? I don’t hink so.

Also Ayers is on board of education that got Obama in the literature book (15 pages worth) in Wisconsin and other states.

What’s funny about the whole thing is that Bush’s thugs destroyed McCain in the 2000 primaries by spreading rumors that he had an illegitimate black child. Now, McCain hired those same Bush Thugs to smear Obama and spread horrible lies about him. MORE OF THE SAME, HUH? Shows how he’s just like Bush.
But what they failed to realize is that the general population isn’t as hateful as the right wing and can’t be race baited so easily. Those tactics only work inside of the GOP but not with the rest of us.

The next question you should ask yourself, Scott, is this:
“Why, as an independent, would I vote for John McCain, when he tries to lie to get my vote? Why would I reward someone who uses deception of the most flagrant kind, by casting a ballot for them?”

Posted by: Blip | October 31, 2008, 2:48 pm 2:48 pm

Now you’re just making things up. The obama campaign hasn’t given Acorn any money though he did represent them in a case.
Hmm. funny… my father represents lots of murderers in court, is he a murderer too just for being a lawyer?
McCain likes Acorn and thinks they do a swell job. He knew ALL about these same problems back then but the republicans are just trying to divert attention away from all those corrupted diebold machines and the disenfranchising of mostly minority voters so they can’t cast a ballot. The repubs aren’t targeting white neighborhoods.. they target mostly black and hispanic with “caging” tactics.

Obama supporters Can one of you tell me how Obamas plan not to tax seniors(62+) making up to $50,000. is fair? Many wealthy seniors retired in Florida and many other states could easily be collecting dividend income up to $50,000. which means they have a stock portfolio worth millions. And Obama wants to wipe them out of the tax base. Please tell me how this is being for middle class working families. All I see it is a vote getter and now understand why Florida seniors have jumped over to his side. And I kkep saying Florida because this is where the wealthy seniors reitre to and Obama has catered to.Wiping out this tax base only puts the burden on middle class. Now let me ask you this Obama supporters. Have any of you read his tax proposals? If so how can you say he is for middle class families? He just fooled you all.

Which brings us to Mr. Obama, who got his start as a Chicago “community organizer” at Acorn’s side. In 1992 he led voter registration efforts as the director of Project Vote, which included Acorn. This past November, he lauded Acorn’s leaders for being “smack dab in the middle” of that effort. Mr. Obama also served as a lawyer for Acorn in 1995, in a case against Illinois to increase access to the polls.
During his tenure on the board of Chicago’s Woods Fund, that body funneled more than $200,000 to Acorn. More recently, the Obama campaign paid $832,000 to an Acorn affiliate. The campaign initially told the Federal Election Commission this money was for “staging, sound, lighting.” It later admitted the cash was to get out the vote.
The Obama campaign is now distancing itself from Acorn, claiming Mr. Obama never organized with it and has nothing to do with illegal voter registration. Yet it’s disingenuous to channel cash into an operation with a history of fraud and then claim you’re shocked to discover reports of fraud. As with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers, Mr. Obama was happy to associate with Acorn when it suited his purposes. But now that he’s on the brink of the Presidency, he wants to disavow his ties.

If you disapprove of both campaigns… which candidate do you think will benefit you the most? Which will be best for your neighbors? Which will be best for the country?
You should decide based on these considerations. And ignore the smears about Khalidi or Sarah Palin’s makeup.
Pick the candidate who is going to do the best job. Who has the best plan.
I’m voting for Obama, based on these questions. But if you decide to pick McCain, I won’t hold it against you.
(I will, however, hold it against you… if you vote because you heard that Obama doesn’t have a birth certificate or because you heard that Palin believes that dinosaurs and humans lived side by side. Those are pathetic and stupid reasons to pick a candidate).

no victory is not worth the damage the republicans have already done. intended or not, they are fanning flames that shouldve been left cold and nearly lifeless.
by projecting an air of acceptance ,and by not quickly and firmly condemning ,the republicans have given at least a wink and nod to patent and tacit haters/racist/fringe lunatics.
that kind of behavior is just not acceptable for any reason Blip , and even much less so in a presidential campaign.

provision is just that, provisional.. and they get checked and thrown out if necessary. if the address comes up to the local starbucks as most of these acorn registrations had fake addresses going to local businesses, it’ll get thrown out.
voter fraud is less likely than being struck by lightening.
but what is likely is the disenfranchising of thousands of minority voters in the u.s. these “caging” schemes are being used targeting mostly democrat or minority neighborhoods. of the people turned away at the polls in florida in 2000, 54% of them were black.
jeb bush had police on standby in these neighborhoods because he knew what he had done ahead of time.

* When the conservative party can answer these questions, then I will start listening to them. NO one who supports the GOP or McCain or Palin will ever answer these questions. Probably because they don’t have an answer. I’m not sure when America became this ‘converting Christian country’ but the basis America was founded on wasn’t even right. They stole the land from the Native Americans and never turned back. I love America but there are some messed up parts of it and I’ve concluded the messed up issue in the political scene is the Conservative party. Especially when senior age is 62 ,I believe that leaves alot of years for someone to not have to pay taxes and you Obama supporters are stupid if you do not see this. Going to be a long time before those trust babies get to inherit so I don’t think thats the issue. Also Obama plans on not raising taxes on SINGLES up to $200,000 and families up to $250,000. Hate to tell yo but that $50,000. difference between singles and families of 4+ isn’t fair either.Do you know how much more it costs to raise a family? And Obama campaigned on the theme of being for Middle Class Families. What a joke and so many people fell for it. I must admit he is smooth he slid that right in there under your noses.

I’ll admit… it’s a scary time for Republicans. I have many friends who work on GOP campaigns, in “safe” seats… and they are sweating bullets.
I told them their chickens would come home to roost if they didn’t get in control of their tactics.
But for so many years, groups like Club for Growth were basting them in cash, and with 9/11 and their percieved advantage on national security… they all told me it would never happen. They really thought they had a “permanent majority.” (Hence the corruption and ethical lapses that have crept into the GOP).
Now, some of them have started endorsing Democratic candidates in their districts… and those who haven’t are flirting with the idea.
Fortunately, a few of them are seriously talking about reform. But we’ll see if they get anywhere. Most of these people threw their support behind Ron Paul… and have been pushed out of influence.

In principle, I agree with you. I think our budget is in too bad of shape to talk about these kinds of tax cuts…
But at least Obama is moving in the right direction. We should consider modest increases to the upper brackets, to give people in lower brackets more breathing room.
But, yeah, I know what you mean… I have a family of four (soon to be five) on an income of under 40,000$. But then, I work for a church, so I wouldn’t dream of complaining about the income I make. (If I needed to, I could get a job with a higher income).

John, where are you getting this? Most people agree with the graduated income tax. It was started by Teddy Roosevelt, McCain’s role model. McCain himself supports it.
To say that Obama’s slip of the tongue “cost him the election” is absurd.
Most people agree, rich people should pay a higher percentage of their income to the feds. Poor and middle class people spend a greater portion of their income on necessities, like food, housing, utilities, and medicine. They should be the first to benefit from a tax break in tough economic times.
I fail to see how this would cost Obama the election.

Scott, I totally sympathize with where you are coming from.
But in relative terms, Obama has worked hard to keep the campaign focused on issues. Even his attack ads are usually based around some policy difference he has with McCain. Not always, but usually.
But having said all that… in the end… the election is about what we need as a country.
And while Obama is not my first choice as a candidate, in pragmatic terms, he is a lot better than his opponent. Health care needs to be fixed. Students need more support for tuition. And we need a foreign policy which is more creative than it is aggressive.
It might not work for you, but it does for me. And for that reason, I’ll admit I cut Obama some slack.
He needs to win. Not because I am a Democrat (because I have never voted for a Democratic candidate in my life). Not because he is “the one”. But just because he would make things better than they are now.
Sure, it sucks to hear the candidates attack each other. But they are both in this campaign. They are both doing it. And at the end of the day, what matters most is that the best one win.

Ayers lied on his grant application and did not do what he said he would do with the money.

Blip These wealthy seniors will not have to pay taxes if there income is $50,000. and this could be dividend income from a multimillion dollar portfolio.Obamas website Quote “Eliminating Income taxes for seniors making less than $50,000. etc.this will mean 27 million seniors will not need to file an income tax return at all” Now how a stock porfolio works is if you get dividend income yes it is taxed you need to report that as income BUT you do not need to report what your stocks are or what they are worth. So many seniors may be getting the bulk of their income from dividends and they will not even have to file taxes at all. Yet they could be sitting on millions of dollars. Now I do not see where this is a responsible proposal of Obamas .It was put out there for the wealthy senior/retirees votes and it is unfortunately it is working. But don’t tell me he is for the middle class. His one and only concern is winning and himself and this proposal proves it.

Well under the present tax plan a parent can deduct up to $10,000. towards acollege tuition if they paid for their childs tuition. The removal of 550 metric tons of “yellowcake” — the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment — was a significant step toward closing the books on Saddam’s nuclear legacy.

Posted by: John | October 31, 2008, 3:37 pm 3:37 pm

What does Yellowcake uranium have to do with anything on this thread?
Are people still afraid that Iraq is going to nuke us?
We already invaded them… and didn’t find anything… and we are still there. If we invaded Iraq again, we would be fighting our own troops! Or is someone saying we need to get Canada?
Bizarre. That’s what Rush Limbaugh will do to you… makes you crazy.

Posted by: Blip | October 31, 2008, 3:37 pm 3:37 pm

While yellowcake alone is not considered potent enough for a so-called “dirty bomb” — a conventional explosive that disperses radioactive material — it could stir widespread panic if incorporated in a blast. Yellowcake also can be enriched for use in reactors and, at higher levels, nuclear weapons using sophisticated equipment.

hey conf###: I think it’s funny that we’re nailing down specifics on obama’s tax plan that hasn’t been finalized. he’s definitely laid out the ground work but i don’t see final specifics from either campaign. Obama wishes to close loopholes that allow rich people out of taxes and he certainly wouldn’t let this one slide.

I hate to use the “S” word, but the American government would never do something as, well, socialist as seize private pension funds, right? This is exactly what cash-strapped Argentina just did in the name of protecting workers’ retirement accounts (Efharisto, Fausta’s Blog). Now, even Uncle Sam isn’t that stupid, but some Democrats might try something almost as loopy: kill 401(k) plans.
House Democrats recently invited Teresa Ghilarducci, a professor at the New School of Social Research, to testify before a subcommittee on her idea to eliminate the preferential tax treatment of the popular retirement plans. In place of 401(k) plans, she would have workers transfer their dough into government-created “guaranteed retirement accounts” for every worker. The government would deposit $600 (inflation indexed) every year into the GRAs. Each worker would also have to save 5 percent of pay into the accounts, to which the government would pay a measly 3 percent return. Rep. Jim McDermott, a Democrat from Washington and chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, said that since “the savings rate isn’t going up for the investment of $80 billion [in 401(k) tax breaks], we have to start to think about whether or not we want to continue to invest that $80 billion for a policy that’s not generating what we now say it should.”

Conf…
A 4000 dollar tax credit is much better than a 10,000 deduction.
A deduction treates the 10,000 you spent on tuition as non-taxable income. And for the record, most middle class families do not spend 10,000 a year on college tuition.
The 4,000 dollar tax credit, on the other hand, means that you get 4000$ towards your child’s tuition if they go to college.
If you are in my tax bracket, the 10,000 deduction would probably mean that I save a couple hundred dollars on my taxes.
A 4000 credit, would mean that I would save 4000 dollars on my taxes (really, it would mean that I would get thousands back on my taxes to use for tuition).
Any way you slice it, the 4000$ tax credit is superior to a 10,000$. The 10,000$ is almost totally worthless to the middle class (although it does help people at the high end of the bracket more than the low end). And the 4000$ credit would help everybody.
If tax policy is your #1 issue… and you are in the middle class… you should vote for Obama.
Now, there might be some other issues that you will be using to vote. But on basic dollars and cents, Obama is your guy… unless you are making over 250,000$ (In which case, he still might be your guy, but for other reasons).

And shame on Obama if he is just putting this out there to gain the wealthy senior vote. Yes he may change it once elected. But what if he doesn’t? My mother if she were still alive, with my deepest regrets she isn’twould also fall into this category and though she might smile a bit she would not think it were fair at all and she would understand what an iresponsible proposal it is. She always felt one needed to pay their own way as long as you could and she never complained about paying taxes to help the less fortunate. But as a senior she would have also seen what a farce Obama really is. As I said I believe Obama needed something to lure the seniors and this is it.

To that I say, not so fast Mr Powell, the time to come clean has long passed. In fact, the window of truth-telling time for you ended when the first US soldier was killed in Iraq.
This admission proves that Colin knew the truth and could have stopped the freight train long before it made it to Iraq.
Picture this. The day before Congress is to vote on the resolution, Colin Powell, the only Bush administration official with any hands-on experience with war, schedules a public news conference on all the major television networks, and says:
“Saddam does not pose an imminent threat, I do not believe we need to go to war in Iraq, and I am quitting my job today because the administration is about to engage us in a war I cannot support.”
Think about that for a minute. And then think about how many members of Congress would have voted differently if Colin Powell had stepped up to the plate.

Here is my response to those businesses threatening to pass on higher taxes to the customers and laying off employees to maintain their profits.
———————————————————————–
Dear Business owner,
I am your competition down the road and will be taking on the employees that you no longer need.  I have seen a increase in my clients because I have chosen to not raise my prices and I need additional people with all the new work.  Some of these new clients used to be parked in front of your location.  A lot of clients have better jobs now and also have much higher spending power due to the reduced taxes .   I really appreciate your older Bush league business practices and hope that you continue with your policies.  I wish you the best under our new Obama administration and Democrat run government.  By the way, I paid a lot less taxes recently as my profits were under the $250,000.   But, of course, if profits do go above that mark, I will be glad to pay the extra 3% as it will be useful for the new health programs for my employees, help pay off the HUGE debt brought to us by the Bush administration, and help create more business opportunities for me with the new Green technologies.  I am also going to be using some of that new Green technology to lower my business expenses. Buy this new technology will help the economy because of my demand for it and create even more jobs in that sector and then again provide more customers for my products who can now afford to my product and my lower prices from you.   Again good luck with your business.  I hope you will be OK with those older Reaganomics business practices that McCain was promising to uphold for you. They never did work, did they. Trickle-down economics proved impossible to achieve just like communism in its day. Very Respectfully, Your competition.

John, in my country, the United States of America, we also have state-backed retirement accounts. We refer to it as “Social Security.” While it is not without its problems, we have had a very long and successful history with this program.
Many in my country view the father of these programs, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as an important figure, who led us out of one economic depression and to victory in WWII on two fronts. He built Social Security which has saved generations of seniors from poverty.
Roosevelt and Social Security have their detractors. Primarily among militant anti-government factions, affiliated with the “Grand Old Party” (also called the Republicans), Roosevelt and his legacy are reviled as “socialist” and “communist,” however these voices are found primarily on the fringes of the American cultural landscape.
Maybe these types of savings accounts won’t work in your country. But they are great in ours.

And all my middle class friends including myself could not even get financial aid because of how the system works against the middle class(once again) So if your kid wants to go to college in my state you have to take out loans or use some investments or dip into your retirement you may have and I chose to use investments and although I am not an accountant I can tell you that $10,000.00 deduction helped me with my fedaral income tax return and gave me back some money. 99% of the press coverage back then was pro-war. Most citizens were. And the president and congress were, too.
It was a time of mass stupidity. So devastating that we are still trying to cope with the aftereffects. It will be years before we are done paying for the stupidity of the Iraq War.

John, I don’t suppose you know about the VP’s office and their direct role in the forgery of intel to get us into Iraq. If we must suspend all judgment and defer to intel, then it is a pretty serious crime for someone to manipulate that intelligence. You should take a very close look at how the intelligence was finessed to lead us into Iraq. It’s not a simple case. Most people have Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson, but I think if we are going to place such a priority on intelligence, rather than presidential judgment…. it is morally imperative that you examine the Plame/Wilson case, Chalabi’s role, Douglas Feith’s office, and the Italian forgeries. There is clear evidence of a concerted effort to manipulate our intelligence and force us into war. If the intelligence is the key factor, whoever botched that intelligence should be held accountable.

I disagree with Air America, Al Franken and Michael Moore. I think they are liberal anti-americans, but it gives no one the right to muzzle them because of their opinion.
Hannity and Rush are conservative and patriotic, as Obama is radically liberal and anti-american, if they see something wrong in the system they rail against it. It’s their job.

i agree barak obama needs to make room for other reporters.especially the news paper reporters who endorsed him and its also fair he let fox news and a few others who didn’t endorse him stay on board as well.i just wander if john mccain has some of barak’s news reporters who endorsed him on they’re plane because if not then its not fair for barak to have reporters who support mccain on his plane if this is the case than they should be kicked off the plane and only the reporters who are impartial could remain on the plane.because john mccain repoters could be only fishing for something negative to report about barak obama.

Powell is definitely responsible for the war in Iraq. But he is not the one who was pushing for the war. He did not manipulate the intel.
He was part of the team and he was a team player.
But the decision to invade Iraq was not his. And it wasn’t even his idea.
He was just carrying water for his boss.

Blip I’ve got to go ,nice talking with you . One more question where is Obama going to get the money to give back a $4,000. credit for the college? He’s not going to tax the wealthy seniors he’s not going to tax the singles making up to $200,000 a year and when he tries to put it all the burden on small and big businesses and the big businesse move out for good and the small businesses don’t have anyone to work for or sell to then who is going to cover the less needy? The middle class? Well we won’t have to much left to give with the rise in the cost of living and the high cost of everytnig because Obama chased and taxed all the competition away. But GE will get all the government business and will have earned it with the NBC campaigning they have done for Obama. Lets see GE is big in wind towers do you think this may be why they are pushing Obama? This way they can get some business out of it all? That is if Obama actually wins.

This is a man who makes false promises and uses his race to shield himself from anyone who tries to expose him! Every time he is attacked he and his Campaign play the race card! America is starting to dig out of the crap Obama has been shoveling and I look forward to waking up on Wednesday to President John S McCain! McCain/Palin 08 America First

John, Powel was fooled by the Bush and Cheney neo-cons just like everyone else. You fail to understand the full aspect of you accusation. And, it is the “Commander -in-Chief’s” responsibility to know the facts before everyone else. Do you really believe that Powell made up these facts to fool Bush or, God forbid, Bush and company made up these facts to most of everyone else? Now isn’t that and interesting thought. And, as I remember, McCain voted to go to war in Iraq, and Obama vote not to. That, to me, as an even more important fact to take into account during this election. With all of our hind-site, someone, Obama, actually kept his head about the Iraq war question. McCain fell right into line with the rest of them. Put some thought into that for a while.

Conf…
He’s going to raise taxes on the top brackets.
He’ll also have to cut some government programs.
I agree… it’s not pretty. But McCain’s tax cuts for the top brackets will also be costly.
At least Obama is being smart about his cuts. He wants to give people in the middle and lower end a little more breathing room.
McCain’s priority is to cut for the rich, on the theory that their extravagant wealth will trickle down on our heads. It’s been tried… and found wanting.
Good luck on Tuseday!
I can tell you like McCain. But if you are really a middle class voter… and if your finances are your priority… you’ll vote for Obama.

For the second time in a week, a prominent Democrat has downgraded Barack Obama’s definition of the middle class — leading Republicans to question whether he’ll stick to his promise not to raise taxes on anyone making under $250,000.
The latest hiccup in the campaign message came Friday morning on KOA-AM, when New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson pegged the middle class as those making $120,000 and under.

John, excuse me for butting in here, but I have to side with you. I watched Powell’s very convincing argument he gave to the UN council. He made a very strong case about invading Iraq. He was the Sec of state and as such had the option of disagreeing with the Adinistration, he didn’t. He later claimed to be misled, but it was his job to make sure the information he recieved was accurate.
I find it hypocritical of the liberal party on so many levels to now embrace Powell. First, Obama, supposedly, was opposed to the war from the get-go, even though he didn’t have a vote at the time, and Powell was the leading factor into going in. Obama critized all those who played a part in invading Iraq. Now Obama wants Powell to be part of his administration.
Second, I distinctly remember, Howard Dean’s remark about the Democratic party being the black party. The Republican’s named Powell as an example of a black Republican and the Liberals slammed Powell as not really being “black”. Now all is forgiven.
Liberals=hypocrites.

Barack Obama’s senior advisers have drawn up plans to lower expectations for his presidency if he wins next week’s election, amid concerns that many of his euphoric supporters are harboring unrealistic hopes of what he can achieve.
The sudden financial crisis and the prospect of a deep and painful recession have increased the urgency inside the Obama team to bring people down to earth, after a campaign in which his soaring rhetoric and promises of “hope” and “change” are now confronted with the reality of a stricken economy.

Obama didn’t have a vote in going to war. He wasn’t in the U.S. Senate yet. Remember, he only served mere 120 days or so before deciding he was ready to be pres. Obama wasn’t given access to the info as the U.S. Senate was. Powell’s strong arguement about going to war swayed the likes of Biden and Hillary and other liberals serving to vote to go to war.

Posted by: S Adams | October 31, 2008, 4:41 pm 4:41 pm

In an interview with a Colorado radio station, Obama appeared to be engaged already in expectation lowering. Asked about his goals for the first hundred days, he said he would need more time to tackle such big and costly issues as health care reform, global warming and Iraq.
“The first hundred days is going to be important, but it’s probably going to be the first thousand days that makes the difference,” he said. He has also been reminding crowds in recent days how “hard” it will be to achieve his goals, and that it will take time.
“I won’t stand here and pretend that any of this will be easy — especially now,” Obama told a rally in Sarasota, Florida, yesterday, citing “the cost of this economic crisis, and the cost of the war in Iraq.” Obama’s transition team is headed by John Podesta, a Washington veteran and a former chief-of-staff to Bill Clinton. He has spent months overseeing a virtual Democratic government-in-exile to plan a smooth transition should Obama emerge victorious next week.

It is extremely common fact that none of the people are “fair and balanced” and are to an extreme, right-wing propagandist brainwashers of the under-educated and underprivileged. They are extremely destructive in their divisiveness and anti anything not on there long-term agenda. For you to believe that these people have your betterment as a priority make you an even greater fool than your posts have already proven you to be. I am tired of the destructive nature of these sources but will support their right to free speech as that is what America is all about. But, I will make sure to make those that monetarily support these divisive people that their profits can become jeopardized by that support. This election has already made readily understood that the American Public is getting very tired of this type of rhetoric and Rovian behavior. You continued support of these sources for your speculative accusations based on no facts at all will make many of us ignore our altogether as will happen to the very sources you admire so much. As liberals, we do not “embrace” or “reject” a person as a human being, based on single things they did that we may or may not like. Everyone deserves respect, and our attitude toward someone changes as good or bad things accumulate. S Adams and John: General Powell has been a long-time favorite for all parties ever since the first Iraq war. Neither of you, nor I were in those offices when Bush pushed this country into the war in Iraq. Who really knows how we all were fooled. I am of course prejudiced to my belief that Bush and Cheney colluded to make the war happen at all costs. For either of you to call Powell as the sole culprit for this war is ludicrous at best and naïve at the least. If Powell had come out in support of McCain, I doubt very much, that you would be speaking of him in these terms right now. In fact, you would most likely be giving him great praise. Powell could easily have been left out on a great deal of the information and their sources. Many of us wanted to be able to believe what Bush and company was telling us at that time. Even me, I admit. Why would Powell not be the exception. Do note that Powell did resign because of the incident and has shown great regret for how he had not known more then he did. Do not make me believe that you could have done any better in his place, with or without his previous experience. I have always liked Powell and still do no matter which candidate he would have supported. But, lucky us, he did support Obama, with great good cause.

Lieberman has also been disengaging himself from the Democratic prty for a few yrs, not just during this election. Powell became a turncoat without warning.

bah–Well how do you know if you are getting a tax cut??? Do you make $42,000 (Obama voted 94 times to increase taxes for this amount and over), or do you make $120,000 (this is a new figure just thrown out by Richardson), or do you make $150,000(Biden’s new figure), or $200,000( Obama on Oct 27), or $250,000 (Obama on July 8). Too many numbers, I don;t think anyone knows what the real number is, the important thing is to just tell people what they want to hear so they will elect you, then do what you originally planned to do in the first place, raise taxes on income $42,000 +
BTW–You are paying taxes on Apr 15, for the year 2008!!, You will have to wait for next year to see the tax cut John McCain gives you.

But, look at the times, there were so few Obamas and so many McCains.
snip from blip
_________________________
I would have worded it differently: More than 75 percent of Congress voted FOR the war based on information… or mis information given them by Bush.
This included dumbocrats including Hillary as well as republicans including McCain.
Hell, based on the destruction in the wake of the bombings of 9/11 in addition to the information provided by GWB, I might have voted for the war.
Obama didn’t HAVE a vote…. so forgeddaboutit! He didn’t count! He expressed an opinion….
Other opinions he has expressed were in support of stealing money from the coffers of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as well as from the dwellers in Rezko’s broken down tenement who did without heat because the money to turn on the gas was instead given to B O.
He chose to hand over money to a as associated group run by Bozo’s Little Acorn to assist with the tampering of our voter registration rolls.
He achieved a $200,000 annual increase in Michele’s salary by promising, among other things, a new $1,000,000 plaza for her employer.
The low cost housing development begun nine years ago under his watch, is still not completed!
The only changes I can see that have been made during his campaign, are the rising of racism….. in that anyone who doesn’t vote FOR him… is labled a “racist”.
So, considering current circumstances, the quote should be revised to say something like:
Too much “blah blah” about Obama;
Too little praise for McCain.
Hopefully you guys will be able to decipher the language of “blah blah” before Tuesday so that we can get our country growing again…. with Mccain at the helm.
He may not be the politician Bozo is, but that is exactly why he can be trusted to make our country his number ONE priority.

MSA123: Please explain “part water like Obama” , Obama has not promised healthcare to all, Clinton did, I do believe you will cut taxed for most of the “middle class” and the rich do take too much out of greed and they need checks and balances to create a stronger American “for the people, by the people and of the people” not jus t the few rich elites and the powerfully few neo-cons. I am very far ahead of your thinking and I can justifiably stand up for Obama and his ideals and actions. McCain is another Bush and has proven so over many years. He was at one time a Maverick but no longer and has proven how badly he flip-flops from one day to the next according to those that are pulling his strings if he hasn’t lost his temper and changed his mind again. The blind can learn much if they learn to listen and open up their minds. I am guessing that you listen heavily to Fox, Limbaugh and possible even Savage although he may be even to extreme for you, too.

I have seen it, that’s why I want to know why he and his associates are throwing out different numbers. And why, if he is so stringent on the $250,000 and under income tax cuts to middle class, he voted 94 times to raise taxes on $42,000 and up.

Posted by: S Adams | October 31, 2008, 6:06 pm 6:06 pm

Because S Adams, Obama is already trying to back off of his promises before he even gets started. It is just like posts have said from day one. He was trying to be everything to everyone, promising the moon. He lies through his teeth and no one seemed to care. Like they think he won’t lie again. Usually what sounds too good to be true, IS. All of those things. And all his fans can do is turn around and attack McCain. Fine, don’t like McCain or Repubs… but don’t raise the opponent on your shoulders ‘just because’. I just don’t know when people are going to realize that we are screwed no matter what. 2/3 of Wall St supports Obama. He just voted – along with McCain – to bail out a bunch of crooks who screwed the American people. I guess people just can’t accept it – I don’t know.

Can’t argue with the truth. I’ve already voted for McCain (voted for Hillary for primary’s). I would have more respect for McCain is he had not signed on to the bogus $700 billion bail out that the radical liberals, Pelosi, Reid and Dodd were pushing.

“he voted 94 times to raise taxes on $42,000 and up.”
Factcheck , a non-partisan project of the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Public Policy Center, pieced through records to determine just what these 94 votes were.
Key findings:
–53 were votes on budget resolutions or amendments that “could not have resulted by themselves in raising taxes,” though many “were clear statements of approval for increased taxes”
–23 were against proposed tax cuts
–11 were to increase taxes on people making more than $1 million a year, to help fund programs such as Head Start, school nutrition, or veterans’ health care
–Seven were “for measures that would have lowered taxes for many, while raising them on a relative few, either corporations or affluent individuals.”
– The total includes multiple votes on the same measures.
Annenberg says a close look at the record reveals that Obama has “voted consistently to restore higher tax rates on upper-income taxpayers but not on middle- or low-income workers.”

Hillary Clinton was the 16th most liberal Senator this year, scoring more liberal than Dodd and right behind Reid.
Hillary Clinton also proposed a major bailout earlier this year.
But someone who claims to hate the bailout and radical liberals states they supported Hillary the primaries.

“You are either with us, or you’re against us.” Does that sound familiar? Well, it should because it was Bush when he was talking about other countries getting involved in the War on Terrorism. However, this time around we will, god forbid, have a man that will eject the press if you don’t say what he wants you to say. How democratic can that be? We have already seen the way Obama plays ball. If you question his tax proposals you are either blacklisted(Orlando newstation) or all your personal information will be leaked to the media for public scrutiny(Joe the Plumber). Is this the direction we are saying we would like to go? Our forefathers risked all to be able to afford certain liberties, like free speech, to every individual. And this is the way we pay them back. How kind of us! They most be so proud! I am also entertained with the notion that these publishments were kicked off the plane to make room for press that could reach swing voters. Yet, these newspapers were replaced with Essence and Jet magazine reporters. Yeah, I’ll bet they are going to change opinions among their readers. I swear I sometimes feel like I am living in a Alice in Wonderland, where what appears to be true isn’t, and where we run from one repressive tyrant from the right, to his equivalent on the left.
P.S., to all the responders who keep saying that they do not want their hard-earned contribution dollars being used to cart these opposing journalists around…get a clue. These newspapers have to pay for their seat aboard the plane.

Must I apply to you the same verbiage that I have applied to others about their posts? Ok, I will: Most of your statements seemed to be pure speculation and outright theory coming from no other sources but yourself. Saying that something is something does not necessarily make it true. Please, for future reference, provide your statements with qualified supporting information from multiple non-biased reliable sources. Don’t pull words out of context to turn something into something it is not. And if I hear complaints that this was the media’s job than do your best to do what the media has failed to do according to you. I.E. practice what you preach. If you can start doing this, than, and may than, some of us out here might start taking you seriously, maybe.

Since Fox News and Wall Street Journal still have newsmen on board there is no need to explain. These two are definitely right wing. Absolutely so!! Yes, I feel their endorsement of McCain played a part, but this is just way it goes and new crew realized the dangers when their bosses endorsed McCain. Just have to roll with the punches. Adding home town news is special.
Since no second plane – no big deal. McCain did same thing. Someone had to go unfortunately. Since they rolled dice and took stance – bye-bye. You play, you accept.

Ryan C Then why is he proposing this sweetheart of a total pass on seniors paying any taxes with these nice stock portfolios. It is to get senior votes and it is working. And as I said before he really does not care about the middle class. Obama cares for Obama and winning. Who do you think is going to make up for this total tax base of wealthy seniors Obama is planning to eliminate Income taxes for? Go to his sight and read it it is right there. He is a fraud and has said whatever he has to to get votes. I would type the quote for you but I am getting tired of doing that for the Obama supporters who don’t even know what his plans are. By the way in some states $250,000 a year income isn’t even considered rich for a family of 4-5 once you account for clothing, food, insurance, dental, cars for teens and insuring teens and then college. And singles can earn up to 200,000. that 50,000 diferrence he allows families doesn’t cover much. It just gained senior and single votes and the theme of middle class families is a con. It is Obama who is out of touch with reality.

I have been saying that forever. Everytime I do provide factual proof it is never looked up by a democrat. It is just debunked here as right wing lies. The Clinton way was to never admit to anything wrong. Instead immediately trash or accuse the other side. Obama learned that real well as have all democrats here.

Yes ultimately it was Bush’s decision because the buck stop there. The Historical Lessons of Lower Tax Rates
by Daniel J. Mitchell, Ph.D.
WebMemo #327
There is a distinct pattern throughout American history: When tax rates are reduced, the economy’s growth rate improves and living standards increase. Good tax policy has a number of interesting side effects. For instance, history tells us that tax revenues grow and “rich” taxpayers pay more tax when marginal tax rates are slashed. This means lower income citizens bear a lower share of the tax burden – a consequence that should lead class-warfare politicians to support lower tax rates.
Conversely, periods of higher tax rates are associated with sub par economic performance and stagnant tax revenues. In other words, when politicians attempt to “soak the rich,” the rest of us take a bath. Examining the three major United States episodes of tax rate reductions can prove useful lessons.

Veteran: Being a $50K kind of guy, you are one of the lucky ones to be able to experience some relief with an Obama and Democrat agenda. I can understand your focus on the war issue as a majority of Americans have done over the past many years since 911. I will not attempt to berate your hard work with your business and your veteran status. I will define to you that I too have had my history in the same areas as yourself but still find myself leaning heavily towards Obama. He truly does have a cool head when under pressure and works very hard to stay with his message. His 30 minute Infomercial was inspiring and believable. He has proven, very well, his ability to lead and gather together huge numbers of people to bring his message to the nation. He tries his best to follow-through with his words by his actions and focuses on those things that are foremost in the American Publics needs. You see, it’s not just the message, or the experience that counts here, but the making of the man and his abilities to bring so many together that may have differences but help us all to find the common ground necessary to bring our nation back from it’s present debacle. He is a “uniter” not a “divider”. We need to be united over the next many years to recover and move forward to a better America. Greater than it has ever been. But, we need to heal, first, and that cannot be done under the present atmosphere that divides those like you and me. I am sure that we could find much in common and that is what is truly important here. Let us all work towards that common good and those common solutions that I know most of us can agree upon. Than move onto the next issue and again move forward. Let us all become part of the solution and not part of the problem. No more name-calling, no more false hoods, truth is power and a beautiful thing to behold when it is used appropriately and constructively. You can vote McCain but I doubt greatly he can win at this point, but no matter who wins here, lets do our best to Unite not divide. I wish you the best and hope for the best for us all.

For those “bleeding hearts” who argue how letting Bush tax rate reduction for the few will have bad effect on our economy and all the people who will have lower taxes under Obama, could I point out that instead of referencing academic studies of dubious quality by economist of dubious intellectual ability and easy recognized ideology, one need just look at economy in Clinton years, with exactly the tax rate Obama proposes, with the state of today’s economy, which presumably benefited all by benefiting from the Bush-McCain’s tax break for the rich.
By the way, I wish 250K is adjusted for cost of living, as in New York this is not rich by any means, however, I have to see somebody who will pack his things and go fishing because he can’t keep 4.6% of the money he earns above 250K.

S Adams : Let’s discuss the concepts of defending truth versus defend falsehoods or distortions. Defend truth requires little as the truth stands before you and can stand on its own merits. Problems occur when the listener, that is you, “chooses” not to believe that information, no matter how it is presented. A prejudice against the truth due to an agenda for something otherwise become a brick wall in real resolution. Falsehoods or distortions are made up in the mind of the ones trying to create them and will present it as truth without real facts or information to support. This is not that hard to disprove and argue against because it would not and cannot stand up in a court of law or fool those that have the education or experience to see it for what it really is. Now, in Obama’s case, there is much truth but many non-believers who on a regular basis like to use falsehoods and distortions to fool the rest of us out here. It usually falls down when the truth can easily be seen or the falsehood is easily proven by the truth that surrounds it. So, the basic concepts of real journalist do call for multiple sources of proof with facts. Not just any source that can use falsehoods and distortions or are the talking heads of the talking points of these falsehoods but truly non-biased sources that most sides can agree upon. Good luck with your definitions of truth. I hope you move further in that direction. Obama has done well against the falsehoods and distortions of his person as he does represent the truth that we all need to have. Including you.

Buying this new technology will help the economy because of my demand for it and create even more jobs in that sector and then again provide more customers for my products who can now afford to buy my products at my lower prices compared to your higher prices.   Again good luck with your business.  I hope you will be OK with those older Reaganomics business practices that McCain was promising to uphold for you. They never did work, did they. Trickle-down economics proved impossible to achieve just like communism in its day. Very Respectfully, Your competition.

“Bryan T All of our money supports Acorn. They get federal funds given to them and I don’t want that. May I suggest we all stop giving to non profits and tell them in light of Acorn this election”
In light of Acorn this election??? The whole issue is one of attempted voter suppression by the republicans. They’ve been after any and all organizations that try to help people.
I hear the latest republican fiasco is to claim that there are more registered voters than there are eligible voters in certain jurisdictions. I’ve yet to hear a single person ask “based on what statistics can this charge be made?” Did I miss a taxpayer paid census last year or this year? How do they know how many people have moved to their area — especially considering so many people have moved to find jobs?
Give me a break! Acorn was defrauded by a few people who obviously NEEDED JOBS TO SURVIVE. That doesn’t excuse what they did, but don’t paint Acorn as the bad guy. That would be like holding every republican at McCain/Palin conventions for “Joe the Plumbers” lack of compunction to abide by the law regarind paying his taxes.
I’m very pleased with Acorn’s community activism and encouragement to all citizens to participate in this country. Get a grip!

dlbloggan, you have been studying at the feet of the master, Sen. Obama, haven’t you? You get your punches in down the page, claiming McCain is an puppet with a temper, parroting Obama/Biden’s tiresome suggestions that McCain is a clone of Bush, etc. You speak derisively of other posters, suggesting that anyone who disagrees with your point of view has been brainwashed by a cabal of Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, and some nut named Savage. All the while you purr that you are being, by contrast, reasonable, rational, and enlightened. Heaven forfend that someone accuse you of being a creature of Daily Kos, MSNBC, and Air America. (And, no, I am not making that accusation in a backhanded way. I do not think you get your marching orders from them, but I would appreciate you giving the same benefit of the doubt to good posters like A Veteran and S Adams on the other side of the political spectrum.) Then you top off the evening with a hearts-and-flowers call to unity and peace and love, which you tell us only Obama can bring about. Sorry, I’m not buying what you are peddling. SOmetimes you make well-reasoned arguments, sometimes you just accuse others of not having their facts straight or of mistaking opinion for fact, even though you do the same thing on a regular basis. You want to come across as above it all, too refined to lower yourself to the level of the uncouth philistines who do not share your views– a nifty piece of jujitsu that is really merely an elevated form of PeeWee Hermanesque “I know you are but what am I?”
Oh, and for the record, I don’t listen to talk radio. I get my news from a variety of sources including CSPAN, CNN, Wall Street Journal, 2 local newspapers, Time, Newsweek, US News and World Report, and, yes, Fox News. BTW, Fox News has two distinct parts, as does CNN and MSNBC. There are the straight newscasts, which I find as “fair and balanced” as anything on television, anad then there are the opinion shows, which are anything but balanced, but make no pretense of being. O’Reilly is an opinion show, just like Hardball or Lou Dobbs or any other. It’s like the distinction between the editorial page and the reporting on most newspapers.

Common Sense– I want to agree with one point you made in your post while disagreeing with your overall message that ACORN is a benign organization that should be celebrated rather than reviled. I agree that it is not always a simple case of voter registration fraud when a community winds up with more registered voters than there are people– but not for the reason you suggest. Yes, most of these cities have a pretty good idea of how many people live there and are not simply dependent on the last census for that information. But what happens in many cases is that registrars are lax about purging their rolls– they have not regularly removed the names of people who have died or moved away. So when new registrations come in, the total can go higher than the population. Of course, whenever a Republican mentions purging voting rolls, Democrats get the vapors and start muttering about voter intimidation and suppression.
I like the idea that a poster I haven’t seen around lately has mentioned– he’s from Australia and in Australia, registration is done automatically by the government upon a young person reaching the voting age. The government then keeps track of where you should be registered and keeps the roll. There’s no partisan registration hijinx in either direction– adding people not truly eligible or purging people who are.
But I am seriously concerned by your suggestion that we should appreciate ACORN. Their “community activism,” from mortgage agitation to voter registration, has been a joke. They are shakedown artists on a par with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson back in the day. There are many groups who do voter registration drives in a truly nonpartisan and appropriate way– like the League of Women Voters. Those I support and applaud. ACORN? No thanks.

I am not a reporter or journalist by trade and I assume you are not either but am terribly interested in this election because of how important it is for this country to get off in the ride direction with the right leadership for the coming times. Brash statements of untruths and fabricated distortions do not hold well with me and I will call for facts and proof that they be backed up and then discussed on the merits of the interpretations of that information. It is not and should not be any different than what yourself should hold to. I am not a perfect debater and make my mistakes or am not aware of all new information that can occur even upon the hour. But, I will do my best to decipher that which I do encounter. I will not float down to your level and attempt to compare you negatively but give you the benefit of the doubt until I see that you are purposely or destructively harming our rights to be the Americans that we all need to be here. Respect needs to be earned but than abuse of the respect given is worse. Give both of our candidates the respect they deserve and stick to the real issues at hand. I sincerely believe that if McCain had followed that trail, he would be much closer to Obama then he is at this time.

I would love to stay and debate our needs here all night but I must travel for some well-earned time off. I hope to meet each of you soon in these spaces and wish each of you the best of luck in our quest to bring our country back to what we all wish for. Ado…

Obama seems to have a very bad temper.. he gets annoyed very easily. Funny when you look close at Obama you tend to see a facade.. a lie. He acts so cool and even tempered but unfortunately it’s just that.. an act. Just read an article about him getting angry at reporters in Chicago following him around. Reminds me of a dr. jekyll and mr. hyde.

Hey ML –
No real evidence of a bad temper here.
Just a protective parent! For the most part, the Obama family has kept their children out of the spotlight. I think it quite natural and a good thing for Obama to ask the reporters to step back and even to ask that again with some firmess when the first request was not honored. Obama’s daughters are not candidates and deserve to live their family life without the intrusion of the press.

they said Essence & Jet magazine were getting spots on the plane instead of ‘real reporters’. What’s up with that? They’re monthly magazines not real reporters from daily papers!? the more we hear about the Obama thugs & his arrogant campaign, it makes me sick!

Rev. Ike:
If we have Obama’s socialism we will all have depression. Clinical Depression!

It’s nice to see Obama working so hard to bring “unity” to the country already like he claims he wants to so badly. What a steaming pile of b.s.
