Don’t Bet on Lame-Duck Stimulus Package

Despite the encouraging words yesterday from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and the White House for a new economic stimulus package  — it’s not going to happen this year.

Congressional sources say that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will not accept the likely White House price for approving a stimulus bill — passage of the Colombia Free Trade Agreement.

Obama allies want to save the package — especially accelerated tax cuts and new infrastructure investment — for his signature in January.   Senate Republicans will still have the votes they need to filibuster the kind of expansive legislation — $150-300 billion — that Democrats have discussed.

All that adds up to more gridlock during the lame duck.

–George Stephanopoulos

I wouldn’t count to much on Republicans holding on to enough seats for a filibuster. I just voted Dem. for the first time and I’m 52, I voted for O’bama and whatever Dem Congressman ran against Adam Putnam. I still voted Republican for State and county.

I love how this is all a game to those WE elected into office. I’ve never voted a straight ticket and this year will be no different. I have spent more time researching state and even local level elections to be as informed as possible. I don’t care if for whom you vote, just research them all and make sure you are supporting the person YOU believe has your best interest in mind. We all know, once those elected get a taste of the Washington life those of us at home matter little!

i live in an area with quite a few republicans and well off individuals who almost always vote lockstep with the republican ticket.
this year however, many of those homes and businesses ,of people who i know are staunch republicans , have obama signs on their yards. that sight was unthinkable 8 years ago.
apparently many republicans here
have abandoned the party in droves for this election ,and are voting for country ahead of party ,as they should.
i really think the republicans have shot themselves in the foot this time ,rather monumentally at that.
this republican party meltdown ,including the racist tinged election campaign they have been/are waging will leave an ugly scar on the party itself that wont heal for a long time,if ever.
good riddance to bad rubbish i say…

I hope everybody is taking notes. Both sides are playing games with our economy and our tax dollars. I wish Americans had the courage to vote out the incumbents and continue to do so until they remember that they’re in Washington to do what’s right and not merely to get re-elected. Unfortunately too many are lemmings who keep voting for the same corrupt politicians they’ve always voted for. The Congress wasn’t supposed to be a career!!!

FLAW IN OBAMA CAMPAIGN: How can Senator Obama say that he will listen and take advice from Secretary of State Colin Powell when on the most important issue — Attacking Iraq — Powell went before the United Nations and supported President Bush, and Obama was against attacking Iraq? You don’t present the case that this is an important endorsement when you don’t take the advice on the most critical issue of the decade. Oh yes, the economy is really the most important issue now, but neither Obama or Powell have economic experience, except Obama has said that he will spread the wealth around, Marist-Socialist style. The last thing America needs is having an ACORN type crowd take over the White House to spread the wealth. Sorry, but that’s the way it is.

He is a Socialist and guaranteed, will implement huge government entitlement programs in order to enslave millions of people and buy their vote. This is about power.. nothing else. Obama is trying to create a socialist country and you will see it by next spring. He announce that he will raise everybody’s taxes and he is really sorry he misled everybody during the election..

Brian — I really don’t believe that America will vote for Senator Obama on Nov 4th because they are getting the message that Obama is to Socialism as ACORN is to Corruption. Too many anti-American concepts supported by Senator Obama floating around. Now we know why he has the most liberal voting record in Washington as a Senator. No American wants a White House that will dip into their pockets. Hang onto your wallets until Nov 4th. Once McCain is elected in an “upset”, we can all breath easier and the freeloaders will have to plan on working for a living instead of getting the wealth spread around to them by Obama.

To all the Chicken Littles who are running around in a panic shouting, “The Socialist President is coming!” — please, relax. A US president has very specific, but very limited, powers. No president can create new laws. A president can only suggest new legislative policies. It will take a majority vote among 100 US senators and 435 representatives to pass new legislation. Unless the majority of our Congress is suddenly swept with socialism fever, you won’t see radical changes in US policy — tax laws or any other. Keep in mind that approximately half of our congress is republican and two-thirds of our senate remains the same over each election period. Our founding fathers designed our government to be deliberative and stable, not to be a sailboat that gets blown in a completely different direction after each election.

Posted by: amigan | October 21, 2008, 4:02 pm 4:02 pm

Judy — This election will determine whether we have free and honest elections in the future or whether the “Obama Administration” will manipulate the press and media, along with a veto-proof Democrat Congress to pass laws that will turn this country into a “socialist republic” that will no longer defend freedom abroad and at home. Remember what Ben Franklin answered when he was asked what our founders had given us when our country was founded: “A Republic if you can keep it!”

As usual, the Republicans aren’t interested in helping the American middle class unless there is something in it for them.
An all you Fox News watchers, why don’t you turn the channel and see what the rest of the world is talking about?? McCain is a horrible candidate who will do nothing but continue Bush’s FAILED tax policies. If Dems are socialists for the middle class, then Bush and McCain are socialists for the rich. The rich pay little to NO taxes and the middle class pays them all. How is this fair? Oh I see; tax cuts for the rich is “conservatism”, but tax cuts for the middle class is “socialism”. And newsflash: THE ECONOMY SUCKS UNDER BUSH AND WOULD UNDER MCCAIN! The economy does better when the rich pay a little more. Want proof? LOOK AT THE 1990′S AND THERE YOU HAVE IT.

Posted by: deacon70 | October 21, 2008, 4:18 pm 4:18 pm

Amigan — A veto-proof Democrat Congress might be music to your ears, but an Obama presidency will indeed spread the wealth around with no checks and balances around. The problem is that freeloading bums will be waiting for a “tax credit”, also known as welfare, getting it from Americans who work hard for a living. Obama’s tax increase during a recession will cause a deep recession or a Depression. This is scary for qualified young people because the message is, don’t work because that ACORN crowd deserves as much as you do. Can you imagine what our bridges will look like if Obama places 2 million more people to work? Do you really think he will give those jobs to people like “Joe the Plummer”? Those incompetent, lazy and corrupt people typified by the ACORN employees can’t wait to be given the task to build a bridge by Obama. The government gave us the economic meltdown. Do you really believe that the government should oversee ANY new and major undertaking? Sorry, but that’s the way it is.

Posted by: Larry | October 21, 2008, 4:22 pm 4:22 pm

Christy — Did you see Senator Obama reach for that glass of water when John McCain during their last debate told the Illinois senator that his opponent was not George Bush. It is interesting how easy it is for the Obama campaign to influence a voter by using the word, “BUSH”. Fortunately, there are 14 days left and voters are “on” to Senator Obama. And forget that Republican business. Most Republicans did not support Senator McCain in the primaries. But that is not the issue. The choice between Senator Obama, a socialist, or Senator McCain is a no-brainer. Don’t know if you have ever visited the former Yugoslavia, but walking through the streets of Belgrade decades ago would have given you a clue as to why the country eventually fell apart. Sorry, but that’s the way it is.

Posted by: TheLastVoter | October 21, 2008, 4:28 pm 4:28 pm

Could we please stop calling Obama a socialist. The more you make the more taxes you pay. And please stop calling Joe the plumber a plumber. He’s not even licensed to be a plumber. That’s like calling Dr. Dre a real doctor. I have a nephew that went to school for four years to become a plumber and you all are making him look bad. Maybe we should try socialism because capitalism is not and has not worked for the last eight years.

Posted by: Karen Williams | October 21, 2008, 4:30 pm 4:30 pm

Larry — If McCain is within 5-9 percentage points of Obama in the polls, which is not the case now, because the polls show McCain is much closer, Senator John McCain will be the next President of the United States. It is the “race” issue and many Whites will not admit to a pollster that they are voting against a Black candidate. Unfortunately for the Democrats, Senator Obama is not the best Black candidate they could have selected. When Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier to be the first black athlete to play in major league baseball, Jackie was not just a black baseball player, he was the best baseball player around. The mistake that the Democrats have made is that they picked the wrong person to run for office. Sorry to Obama supporters, but that’s the way it is.

Spreading the wealth means paying your taxes and getting a tax cut. The US has a Progressive tax system. The more you make the more they take. Unless you’ve never held a job before, you should know this. Obama’s tax cuts will be the same as they were during President Clintion’s administration. I didn’t hear any complaints then. You folks are just pissed because the old man and the she are getting they’re asses kicked by the Obama campaign.

You are right. McCain is not Bush, but McCain voted with Bush 90% OF THE TIME. McCain said it himself that he did! How are his policies gonna be different? You can’t keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result. The economy tanked due to these Bush tax cuts that were supposed to create jobs (FAILURE!), we are 10 trillion dollars in debt, the Iraq OCCUPATION is a disaster and costing us 10 billion a month. McCAIN will continue on this path and you expect a different result???
And who exactly is “on” to Obama? Last I heard he is killing McCain in the national polls and most importantly the electoral college. McCain is losing red states that Bush won. INDIANA, VA, W VA, MO are all in play for Obama! You need to take your head out of the sand and actually turn on the REAL news and not FOX News.
And do yourself a favor: look up socialism because you all sound like ignorant idiots calling the American progressive tax system (which is what Obama would continue) socialism. Even Romney said calling Obama a socialist is incorrect.

Posted by: Christy | October 21, 2008, 4:48 pm 4:48 pm

Karen — Your comment: “Maybe we should try socialism because capitalism is not and has not worked for the last eight years.” is exactly where Senator Obama is coming from and why he will lose the election. Hard working Americans will not stand for allowing bums who don’t want to work to sit around and collect a “tax credit” (i.e., a welfare check) from a socialist American system introduced by Obama. And, to provide balance, hard working Americans also want those corrupt bums who caused our economic meldown to go to JAIL. That’s what happens in an honest government. Hopefully, a President McCain will bring in “America’s Mayor” — (yes, the federal prosecutor who sent a lot of Mafia bums to jail) — to clean out corruption (those Republican and Democrat “what’s in it for me crowd”).

I don’t care if you are Warren Buffett, Joe the Plumber, or Henry the check-out boy, we are all Americans. We should all be treated the same regardless how much or how little money you have. Throw out both parties until we have people that want to be Americans in government. If we do that enough maybe we can have a government that will solve problems before the problems become a crisis.

Posted by: joey k | October 21, 2008, 5:01 pm 5:01 pm

Christy — You are correct. I made the mistake of calling Senator Obama a socialist based on my projection of what he will be doing as President of the United States, not his left-wing most liberal voting status as just one senator out of 100 senators where, of course, he does the least damage. And, don’t buy that 90% number (that even John McCain admits to) as being proof positive that McCain is Bush. When the Russians invaded Georgia, it was McCain who called it an invasion and Obama who gave a weak response, in fact very similar to what President Bush said. Now here is the most important point: There was no vote going on during the Russian invasion. In one case, a senator running for president spoke loudly and clearly what had to be done, and in the other case, the weak senator responded exactly as everyone expected that he would. This is what Obama’s running mate Joe Biden was referring to when he said that Obama as president would be tested within 6 months. You are not going to have any terrorist wearing a hood over his face in the Middle East deciding to test John McCain; the terrorists and Russians already know how he will react. Sorry, but that’s the way it is.

Senator Obama is leaving the campaign trail to see his grandmother who is ill. Any political strategist watching the polls would advise Senator Obama that the polls are closing and he has to change the news coverage from race, socialism, and Joe-the-Plummer to another topic. Whether he visits his grandmother or hides from the media for several days, it serves his campaign’s interests. Hopefully, he does not go into the routine Democratic strategy approach just before election day (“Feel sorry for me”). Photos of Senator Obama with a White grandmother who is ill, I am positive, is a calculated political move to blunt the race issue and get away from the socialism charges. His camapign will have spent about half a billion dollars when election day arrives and you can bet that the trip to see his grandmother has gone through a major political analysis by his campaign. My observation is that the attacks against Senator Obama have changed the polls and the future Democrat talking points will be “Senator McCain has no decency because he is attacking Senator Obama when he is visiting his sick grandmother”. Sorry for this analysis, but politics is a brutal business and the Obama campaign must change the news coverage immediately.

Cristy — It is interesting to see the non-calm approach by Senator Obama’s supporters as they see a “sure win” going down in flames. And don’t forget, the last liberal president that the Republicans have had in office is George W. Bush, who never used his veto to stop irresponsible spending by both the Republican and Democrat House and Senate over the last 7 years. Having said that, Bob Barr and Ralph Nader cannot win, and Senator Obama, if elected, will create a deep recession or Depression because you do not raises taxes during a recession. That leaves Senator John McCain who was not many people’s first choice, but a lot better than the choice that the Democrats gave us. Believe it or not, Senator Clinton, who I never supported, would have been a better choice than Senator Obama. Fortunately, there will be enough of Senator Clinton’s people voting for Senator McCain, and you know why, that McCain will be elected anyway. But it is nice to allow the Obama supporters to think positively for another 14 days until reality sets in.

Hispanics will be surprising the Obama campaign on election day. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that the Democrats have taken the Hispanic vote for granted and Senator Obama has placed more focus on groups like ACORN and his Illinois Community Organizers than he has on Hispanics. This is a “stealth” issue that they are not aware of, though they got a taste of it in South Florida, a region of the country that was successfully nurtured by President Reagan (i.e., the Cuban vote).

And have you checked out how much Senator Obama and Senator Biden have contributed to charities compared to their incomes? Some dishwashers and plummers have done more. What this means is that Obama has conducted himself as a free spending left wing liberal who knows how to spend other people’s money, but hold’s on to his own wallet very tightly. Socialism is bad when hardworking people are asked to support freeloaders who refuse to do their share. And its really bad when the people in power who control tax dollars have demonstrated that its okay to spend your money, but not their own. By the way, many Christians give about ten percent of their income to their churches, if not more. Sorry, but that’s the way it is.

The sooner the Messiah takes his throne the sooner this country can be run the rest of the way into the ground. Maybe out of the ashes we can re-build the country into something resembling what it started out to be. One thing for sure, what the Jack-Ass and Dumbo keeps serving up sure isn’t working.

ARE THERE REALLY THIS MANY IGNORANT, STUPID, UNIFORMED AMERICANS OUT THERE?
Karen, capitalism has worked for over 2 centuries and its still working today. Economies go up and they certainly come down… its a cycle. There was a crash in the 80′s, 70′s and then of course the Great Depression.
You think things are bad now? Wait until Obama is in the white house. Socialism is not what our fore-fathers fought for. Capitalism is. Fright for the Republic of the United States of America. VOTE McCain!
p.s. – Everything we enjoyed in the 90′s was from the trickle down policy passed by Reagon and all the cuts in spending by the first Bush. All the problems (the credit freeze and sub-prime mortgage meltdown) came from the legislation passed by Clinton that allowed people without good credit (people who won’t, can’t, or sign up for stupid loans (stupid loans= interest only and ballon interest loans) couldn’t get a loan

Bulletin: Senator John McCain’s campaign will continue to attack Senator Obama on the socialism and redistribution of wealth issues, even though Senator Obama will be suspending his campaign for two days to visit his sick grandmother, hoping that the attacks will stop. Why? Because Senator Obama is losing his lead and there are still 14 long, long days left before Nov 4th. Look for a Democrat “talking point”: Senator McCain has no decency, attacking Senator Obama when he is visiting his sick grandmother.” This is all “confirmed” — Look for it in several days. Sorry, but that’s the way it is.

TheLastVoter: OMG! Don’t distribute the wealth, whatever you do – Let’s give it ALL to the Fat Cat Bankers and billionaire execs who created a global financial meltdown out of sheer GREED! Oh, hand on – we just did that! You don’t think we should’ve spread that around?? Let them keep it, and keep giving ‘em more, that’s your answer? You are more worried about the people at the low end of the scale, the people on welfare? You think these people are the problem, do you? That’s who you are worried about?? C’mon TLV. Get real. They haven’t tanked this economy. The Greedy billionaire set have done that. Read the websites of other nations involved in this mess (that would be the rest of the world). In Australia, the Government is suggesting millionaire taxes be increased by to a whopping 50% – and no one is complaining about that. They are howling for the blood Greedy in that country. A country which, incidentally, is able to scrape together enough money to give the Middle Classes and disadvantaged (they are the same, these days. Middle Classes and the Disadvantaged – they have become the same group)a stimulus package – and not by tax cut, but straight in the wallet – a $1000 each to get ‘em spending before Christmas to help stave off recession. Why do some GOP always look down and blame welfare recipients for everything. They call them freeloaders – how about the Fat Cats: a dividend here, a phone call there. That’s WORK to you?? The pay’s good, though – isn’t it?? And when they break it, we pay for it. All of us. Get Real.

They haven’t got enough yet, they want all of it. That is NOT capitalism – it’s CRIMINAL. What if these guys are just so greedy and self serving and they don’t want to pass it on, O Sane One? From the old and grizzled Fat Cats through to the 25 year olds fresh out of college, running around with their billion dollar portfolios and working this system for all it is worth. People who wouldn’t know what a decent days work is if it hit them in the face. They see the mess Middle America is in and run straight to Wall Street for the easy buck. You don’t believe in ‘hand outs’, but ‘trickle down’ is OK. You’ll wait for it to fall your way. Someday. Middle America needs relief NOW. Right Now. Not next decade. Not someday. NOW. I’ve got a friend in Australia, and he loves it. He tells me to move there all the time. Every few years, you get an extra month or so off, in addition to your regular generous vacation time, paid. He retired from his rather menial job to a full govt ride. He has a new motorcycle every couple of years, a nice home, and new cars and a boat. All from a delivery truck job. What’s not to like about that? What I never have understood is why he is so envious of me living in ‘merica (as he calls it). They love us, and love everything American, and I seem to be envious of him. Go figure.

Chester — Point One: All “rich” bums who broke the law and helped create our economic meltdown should be tried and if found guilty, put in jail and the key thrown away. We probably agree on this. Point 2: Welfare recipients, especially the elderly and children who can’t and are not expected to work, and if they can’t take care of themselves or have no one to support them, should be taken care of by our tax dollars. This would include the handicapped and others who want to work but are physically unable to do so; Point 3: Because there are abuses in our system, it does not mean we should put into the White House a free-spending liberal senator who will support corrupt organizations like ACORN; he is bent on creating a socialistic society and his associations over the years with an anti-American pastor and a former terrorist show a propensity for “changing America” in the wrong direction; Point 4: Poor people cannot pay taxes and poor people do not hire workers or create jobs. This is not the case with Communism or socialism. Everyone works, creates less, and it is a “workers’ paradise”. Check out Cuba, Russia, or the former Yugoslavia. We have a pretty good system, but it takes a competent press to provide checks and balances, as well as a competent House and Senate. We haven’t had that.Sorry, but that’s the way it is.

How long is the beast allowed to have authority in Revelation?
Revelation Chapter 13 tells us it is 42 months, and you know what that is.
Almost a four-year term of a Presidency.
All I can say is ‘Lord, Have mercy on us!’
According to The Book of Revelation the anti-Christ is: The anti-Christ will
be a man, in his 40′s, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with
persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal….the prophecy says
that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace,
and when he is in power, will destroy everything..
Do we recognize this description??
I STRONGLY URGE each one of you to post this as many times as
you can! Each opportunity that you have to send it to a friend or media outlet..do it!
I refuse to take a chance on this unknown candidate who came out of nowhere.
From: Dr. John Tisdale
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Friends,
As I was listening to a news program last night, I watched in horror as Barack Obama made the statement with pride. . .’we are no longer a Christian nation; we are now a nation of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, . . .’ As with so many other statements I’ve heard him (and his wife) make, I never thought I’d see the day that I’d hear something like that from a presidential candidate in this nation. To think our forefathers fought and died for the right for our nation to be a Christian nation–and to have this man say with pride that we are no longer that. How far this nation has come from what our founding fathers intended it to be.
I hope that each of you will do what I’m doing now–send your concerns, written simply and sincerely, to the Christians on your email list. With God’s help, and He is still in control of this nation and all else, we can show this man and the world in November that we are, indeed, still a Christian nation!
http://www.atlah.org/broadcast/ndnr07-28-08.html
Dear friends:
Barack Hussein Obama has taken the nation by storm. From obscurity, with zero executive experience, or much of any kind, he has vaulted into the position of Presidential frontrunner. It is stunning. On the surface, it appears attributable only to his eloquent oratory and his race. But an invisible factor may be a strong spiritual force behind him, causing some people to actually swoon in his presence.
I have been very concerned that he has publicly said that he does not believe Jesus is the only way to heaven. This makes both the Bible and Jesus a liar, and it means that Christ has died in vain. A person cannot be a true Christian who believes that there are other ways of forgiveness, salvation, and eternal life with God. Only Jesus has paid the price for that.
Therefore, there is, indeed, another spirit involved. And this spirit has come into our national life like a flood. Last week at Obama’s acceptance speech, that spirit exalted itself in front of a Greek temple-like stage, and to a huge audience like in a Roman arena. Omama was portrayed as god-like. His voice thundered as a god’s voice.
At the end, Democratic sympathizer Pastor Joel Hunter gave the benediction and shockingly invited everyone to close the prayer to their own (false) gods. This was surely an abomination, but it was compatible with Obama’s expressed theology, and Hunter’s leftist leanings.
God was not pleased.
And God says, “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.” (Isaiah 59:19)
Enter Governor Sarah Palin. With incredible timing, the very next day, Sarah Palin also appeared out of nowhere. Her shocking selection as John McCain’s running mate stunned the world and suddenly took all the wind out of Obama’s sails.
We quickly learned that Sarah is a born-again, Spirit-filled Christian, attends church, and has been a ministry worker.
Sarah is that standard God has raised up to stop the flood. She has the anointing. You can tell by how the dogs are already viciously attacking her. But they will not be successful. She knows the One she serves and will not be intimidated.
Back in the 1980s, I sensed that Israel ’s little-known Benjamin Netanyahu was chosen by God for an important end-time role. I still believe that. I now have that same sense about Sarah Palin.
Today I did some checking and discovered that both her first and last names are biblical words, one in Hebrew the other in Greek:
Sarah. Wife of Abraham and mother of Isaac. In Hebrew, Sarah means “noble woman” (Strong’s 8283).
Palin. In Greek, the word means “renewal.” (Strong’s 3825).
Only God knows the future and how she may be used by Him, but may this noble woman serve to bring renewal in the land, and inspiration.
What American running for President of the United States would remove the symbol of his country? And worse, he replaced the flag with it with a symbol of himself… Obama is such a despicable human being.
Please forward this if you’re not ashamed of our country and our flag & if think this is a disgrace.
If you do not forward this to everyone you know nothing will happen. If Obama is elected president of the United States we are in trouble. If you think the Liberals can lead our country just look what Pelosi and Reid have accomplished for us.
“China is facing massive layoffs!” per Charlie Gibson this evening. You know what that means? Many low-cost Chinese-made products no longer available to Americans; more importantly, the Chinese see an American recession coming down the road. With Senator Obama saying that he will spread the wealth around and economists saying that he will raise taxes even though he denies this, most experts are saying that this will create a deep recession in America if not a Depression. We don’t need incompetence and lack of experience at the helm when American workers are willing to produce, but are being discouraged by a socialist”Change America” program that has its roots in foreign countries and corrupt Chicago-style politics. Sorry, but that’s the way it is.
Do what you like Chet. Me, I’m just gonna go with the flow. If the youngsters want to re-invent the wheel, let them knock themselves out. If they think a better wheel is one where the government feeds them, blows their noses and wipes their behinds all the while creating a society of “equality” in standard of living regardless of how much, or little you contribute, let ‘em have it. I’ll enjoy the fruits of my labor, and be happy to take what they are willing to give as well. “Reformed” as I may be, my age and fair compensation for my achievemnts allows for that. But, I’ll bet it will be pretty frustrating for many if after 20 or 30 years of contributing, they aren’t much better off than those who haven’t done squat, because the “wealth” has been “spread around.”
Good Morning. Some of you are Dem’s, some are Republicans and a few Independents…..doesn’t matter the party. Think about your pocketbooklooking at McCain vs Obama on tax agenda.
INTERESTING DATA JUST RECEIVED ON TAXES
Spread the word…..
This is something you should be
aware of so you don’t get blind-sided.
This is really going to catch a lot
of families off guard. It should
make you worry.
Proposed changes in taxes after 2008 General election:
CAPITAL GAINS TAX
MCCAIN
0% on home sales up to $500,000
per home (couples) McCain does not
propose any change in existing
home sales income tax.
OBAMA
28% on profit from ALL home sales
How does this affect you?
If you sell your home and make a profit, you
will pay 28% of your gain o n taxes.
If you are heading toward retirement
and would like to down-size your
home or move into a retirement
community, 28% of the money you
make from your home will go to taxes. This
proposal will adversely affect the
elderly who are counting on the income
from their homes as part of their retirement income.
DIVIDEND TAX
MCCAIN 15% (no change)
OBAMA 39.6%
How will this affect you?
If you have any money invested in stock
market, IRA, mutual funds,
college funds, life insurance, retirement
accounts, or anything that pays
or reinvests dividends, you will now
be paying nearly 40% of the money
earned on taxes if Obama become president.
The experts predict that higher
tax rates on dividends and capital gains
would crash the stock market yet
do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.
INCOME TAX
MCCAIN (no changes)
Single makin g 30K – tax $4,500
Single making 50K – tax $12,500
Single making 75K – tax $18,750
Married making 60K- tax $9,000
Married making 75K – tax $18,750
Married making 125K – tax $31,250
OBAMA
(reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts)
Single making 30K – tax $8,400
Single making 50K – tax $14,000
Single making 75K – tax $23,250
Married making 60K – tax $16,800
Married making 75K – tax $21,000
Married making 125K – tax $38,750
Under Obama your taxes will
more than double!
How does this affect you? No explanation
needed. This is pretty
straight forward.
INHERITANCE TAX
MCCAIN 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax)
OBAMA Restore the inheritance tax
How does this affect you? Many families
have lost businesses,
farms and ranches, and homes
that have
been in their families
for generations because they could not
afford the inheritance tax.
Those willing their assets to loved
ones will not only lose them to
these taxes.
NEW TAXES BEING PROPOSED BY OBAMA
* New government taxes proposed on
homes that are more than
2400 square feet
* New gasoline taxes (as if
gas weren’t high enough already)
* New taxes on natural resources
consumption (heating
gas, water, electricity)
* New taxes on retirement accounts
and last but not least….
* New taxes to pay for socialized medicine
so we can receive the same
level of medical care as other
third-world countries!!!
Any questions about Senator Obama’s religion should be kept personal unless he has made it an issue himself. We all know what his mentor, the Rev Wright, believes, and it is up to Senator Obama to change the record if he wishes. Americans will vote on numerous isses. Obviously, Rev Wright’s comments have been very unsettling to Americans and Christians.
They aren’t throwing any stones at us, they are looking in their own back yard and making sure their country is running right. And in Europe, it made me laugh. As soon as the crisis hit, all those leaders from the different countries, all pointed the finger at America and blamed us. Then, when the first bail out fell thru and they realised they couldn’t get the immediate help from us to fix their own mess, they all had to come out and admit to their citizens that, well, Yes, they should have been watching more closely and No, it isn’t all America’s fault. Everyone bought into this. Maybe it did start here, but clearly, Greed knows no Boundaries – it has run riot the world over. People in Oz are disgusted with the Fat Cats just like we are.
WOULDN’T IT BE GREAT TO TURN ON THE TV AND HEAR ANY U.S. PRESIDENT, DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN GIVE THE FOLLOWING SPEECH?
‘My Fellow Americans: As you all know, the defeat of the Iraq regime has been completed.
Since congress does not want to spend any more money on this war, our mission in Iraq is complete.
This morning I gave the order for a complete removal of all American forces from Iraq. This action will be complete within 30 days. It is now time to begin the reckoning.
Before me, I have two lists. One list contains the names of countries which have stood by our side during the Iraq conflict. This list is short . The United Kingdom , Spain , Bulgaria , Australia , and Poland are some of the countries listed there.
The other list contains every one not on the first list. Most of the world’s nations are on that list. My press secretary will be distributing copies of both lists later this evening.
Let me start by saying that effective immediately, foreign aid to those nations on List 2 ceases immediately and indefinitely. The money saved during the first year alone will pretty much pay for the costs of the Iraqi war. TH EN EVERY YEAR THERE AFTER IT will GO TO OUR SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM SO IT WON’T GO BROKE IN 20 YEARS.
The American people are no longer going to pour money into third world Hell holes and watch those government leaders grow fat on corruption.
Need help with a famine ? Wrestling with an epidemic? Call France .
In the future, together with Congress, I will work to redirect this money toward solving the vexing social problems we still have at home . On that note, a word to terrorist organizations. Screw with us and we will hunt you down and eliminate you and all your friends from the face of the earth.
Thirsting for a gutsy country to terrorize? Try France or maybe China
I am ordering the immediate severing of diplomatic relations with France, Germany, and Russia. Thanks for all your help, comrades. We are retiring from NATO as well. Bonne chance, mezamies.
I have instructed the Mayor of New York City to begin towing the many UN diplomatic vehicles located in Manhattan with more than two unpaid parking tickets to sites where those vehicles will be stripped, shredded and crushed. I don’t care about whatever treaty pertains to this. You creeps have tens of thousands of unpaid tickets. Pay those tickets tomorrow or watch your precious Benzes, Beamers and limos be turned over to some of the finest chop shops in the world. I love New York
A special note to our neighbors. Canada is on List 2. Since we are likely to be seeing a lot more of each other, you folks might want to try not pissing us off for a change.
Mexico is also on List 2. Its president and his entire corrupt government really need an attitude adjustment. I will have a couple extra thous and tanks and infantry divisions sitting around. Guess where I am going to put ‘em? Yep, border security.
Oh, by the way, the United States is abrogating the NAFTA treaty – starting now.
We are tired of the one-way highway. Immediately, we’ll be drilling for oil in Alaska- which will take care of this country’s oil needs for decades to come. If you’re an environmentalist who
opposes this decision, I refer you to List 2 above: pick a country and move there.
It is time for America to focus on its own welfare and its own citizens. Some will accuse us of isolationism. I answer them by saying, ‘darn tootin.’
Nearly a century of trying to help folks live a decent life around the world has only earned us the undying enmity of just about everyone on the planet. It is time to eliminate hunger in America It is time to eliminate homelessness in America . To the nations on List 1, a final thought. Thank you guys. We owe you and we won’t forget.
To the nations on List 2, a final thought: You might want to learn to speak Arabic.
God bless America . Thank you and good night.’
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English, thank a soldier.
And God Bless America
People talking and quoting rubbish and packaging it up as Christ Given are a lot like the Bankers who packaged up the bad credit and called it ‘Good’. If you really do believe in Christ, then He will look after you regardless of what you say. Christ is Love, Forgiveness and Understanding. You don’t appear to Know Him at all. Check him out. Remember Tim : On Earth as it is in Heaven. The Lords Prayer, the Prayer that Christ gave us to assist us in communicatin with God – you’ll find most of what is the core of Christianity right in that prayer. When we say “Thy Will be done on Earth, as it is in Heaven” we, as Christians, are undertaking to act and behave here on Earth as we believe God would have us behave in Heaven. “Need help with a famine ? Wrestling with an epidemic? Call France” Do you see what I mean? Jesus never said anything like that, never would. But you just said it. You should think about what you are saying and try to lift the bar a little. None of us is perfect, only God is that. But we do have a responsibility to strive in the direction of God and his perfection. I do believe that God loves a tryer. Have another read of your Bible and rethink.
According to Snopes.com, Princeton was requested to put a ‘ restriction ‘ on distribution of any copies of the thesis of Michelle Obama (a/k/a/ Michelle laVaughn Robinson) saying it could not be made available until November 5, 2008 but when it was published on a political website they decided they would lift the restriction.
Subj: Thesis – Michele Obama aka Michelle LaVaughn Robinson
OBAMA ‘ S MILITANT RACISM REVEALED
In her senior thesis at Princeton, Michele Obama, the wife of Barack Obama stated that America was a nation founded on “crime and hatred ‘ . Moreover, she stated that whites in America were ‘ ineradicably racist ‘ . The 1985 thesis, titled ‘ Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community ‘ was written under her maiden name, Michelle LaVaughn Robinson.
Michelle Obama stated in her thesis that to ‘ Whites at Princeton , it often seems as if, to them, she will always be Black first… ‘ However, it was reported by a fellow black classmate, ‘ If those ‘ Whites at Princeton ‘ really saw Michelle as one who always would ‘ be Black first, ‘ it seems that she gave them that impression ‘ .
Most alarming is Michele Obama ‘ s use of the terms ‘separationist ‘ and ‘integrationist ‘ when describing the views of black people.
Mrs. Obama clearly identifies herself with a ‘separationist ‘ view of race.
‘By actually working with the Black lower class or within their communities as a result of their ideologies, a separationist may better understand the desperation of their situation and feel more hopeless about a resolution as opposed to an integrationist who is ignorant to their plight. ‘
Obama writes that the path she chose by attending Princeton would likely lead to her ‘further integration and/or assimilation into a white cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full participant. ‘
Michele Obama clearly has a chip on her shoulder.
Not only does she see separate black and white societies in America , but she elevates black over white in her world.
Here is another passage that is uncomfortable and ominous in meaning:
‘There was no doubt in my mind that as a member of the black community, I am obligated to this community and will utilize all of my present and future resources to benefit the black community first and foremost. ‘
What is Michelle Obama planning to do with her future resources if she ‘ s first lady that will elevate black over white in America ?
The following passage appears to be a call to arms for affirmative action policies that could be the hallmark of an Obama administration.
‘Predominately white universities like Princeton are socially and academically designed to cater to the needs of the white students comprising the bulk of their enrollments. ‘
The conclusion of her thesis is alarming.
Michelle Obama ‘ s poll of black alumni concludes that other black students at Princeton do not share her obsession with blackness. But rather than celebrate, she is horrified that black alumni identify with our common American culture more than they value the color of their skin. ‘I hoped that these findings would help me conclude that despite the high degree of identification with whites as a result of the educational and occupational path that black Princeton alumni follow, the alumni would still maintain a certain level of identification with the black community. However, these findings do not support this possibility. ‘
Is it no wonder that most black alumni ignored her racist questionnaire? Only 89 students responded out of 400 who were asked for input.
Michelle Obama does not look into a crowd of Obama supporters and see Americans. She sees black people and white people eternally conflicted with one another.
The thesis provides a trove of Mrs. Obama ‘ s thoughts and world view seen through a race-based prism.
This is a very divisive view for a potential first lady that would do untold damage to race relations in this country in a Barack Obama administration.
Michelle Obama ‘ s intellectually refined racism should give all Americans pause for deep concern.
Now maybe she ‘s changed, but she sure sounds like someone with an axe to grind with America . Will the press let Michelle get a free pass over her obviously racist comment about American whites? I am sure that it will.
PS: We paid for her scholarship.
It’s an amazing time to be alive in America. We’re in a year of firsts in this presidential election: the first viable woman candidate; the first viable African-American candidate; and, a candidate who is the first front-running freedom fighter over 70. The next president of America will be a first.
We won’t truly be in an election of firsts, however, until we judge every candidate by where they stand. We won’t arrive where we should be until we no longer talk about skin color or gender. Now that Barack Obama steps to the front of the Democratic field, we need to stop talking about his race, and start talking about his policies and his politics.
The reality is this: Though the Democrats will not have a nominee until August, unless Hillary Clinton drops out, Mr. Obama is now the front-runner, and its time America takes a closer and deeper look at him. Some pundits are calling him the next John F. Kennedy. He’s not. He’s the next George McGovern. And it’s time people learned the facts.
Because the truth is that Mr. Obama is the single most liberal senator in the entire U.S. Senate. He is more liberal than Ted Kennedy, Bernie Sanders, or Mrs. Clinton. Never in my life have I seen a presidential front-runner whose rhetoric is so far removed from his record. Walter Mondale promised to raise our taxes, and he lost. George McGovern promised military weakness, and he lost. Michael Dukakis promised a liberal domestic agenda, and he lost.
Yet, Mr. Obama is promising all those things, and he’s not behind in the polls. Why? Because the press has dealt with him as if he were in a beauty pageant. Mr. Obama talks about getting past party, getting past red and blue, to lead the United States of America. But let’s look at the more defined strokes of who he is underneath this superficial “beauty.”
Start with national security, since the president’s most important duties are as commander-in-chief. Over the summer, Mr. Obama talked about invading Pakistan, a nation armed with nuclear weapons; meeting without preconditions with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who vows to destroy Israel and create another Holocaust; and Kim Jong II, who is murdering and starving his people, but emphasized that the nuclear option was off the table against terrorists – something no president has ever taken off the table since we created nuclear weapons in the 1940s. Even Democrats who have worked in national security condemned all of those remarks. Mr. Obama is a foreign-policy novice who would put our national security at risk.
Next, consider economic policy. For all its faults, our health care system is the strongest in the world. And free trade agreements, created by Bill Clinton as well as President Bush, have made more goods more affordable so that even people of modest means can live a life that no one imagined a generation ago. Yet Mr. Obama promises to raise taxes on “the rich.” How to fix Social Security? Raise taxes. How to fix Medicare? Raise taxes. Prescription drugs? Raise taxes. Free college? Raise taxes. Socialize medicine? Raise taxes. His solution to everything is to have government take it over. Big Brother on steroids, funded by your paycheck.
Finally, look at the social issues. Mr. Obama had the audacity to open a stadium rally by saying, “All praise and glory to God!” but says that Christian leaders speaking for life and marriage have “hijacked” – hijacked – Christianity. He is pro-partial birth abortion, and promises to appoint Supreme Court justices who will rule any restriction on it unconstitutional. He espouses the abortion views of Margaret Sanger, one of the early advocates of racial cleansing. His spiritual leaders endorse homosexual marriage, and he is moving in that direction. In Illinois, he refused to vote against a statewide ban on all handguns in the state. These are radical left, Hollywood, and San Francisco values, not Middle America values.
The real Mr. Obama is an easy target for the general election. Mrs. Clinton is a far tougher opponent. But Mr. Obama could win if people don’t start looking behind his veneer and flowery speeches. His vision of “bringing America together” means saying that those who disagree with his agenda for America are hijackers or warmongers. Uniting the country means adopting his liberal agenda and abandoning any conflicting beliefs.
But right now everyone is talking about how eloquent of a speaker he is and – yes – they’re talking about his race. Those should never be the factors on which we base our choice for president. Mr. Obama’s radical agenda sets him far outside the American mainstream, to the left of Mrs. Clinton.
It’s time to talk about the real Barack Obama. In an election of firsts, let’s first make sure we elect the person who is qualified to be our president in a nuclear age during a global civilizational war.
Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin, presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he doesn’t follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.
According to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171, During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.
‘As I’ve said about the flag pin, I don’t want to be perceived as taking sides,’ Obama said. ‘There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song ‘I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing.’ If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.’
This man does not respect our symbols of pride and freedom and respect. This man proposes to be the Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces who fight for our flag and our veterans who have fought, died, been maimed, over the last 200+ years? I suspect that he also does not believe in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, but yet when you see him making a speech on television (like the recent Philadelphia race speech) he is surrounded by a backdrop of 10 or more American flags! He likes those props! You can assume from all this that he is a fake and a hypocrite.
Something is wrong and frightening here.
AND SOME PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY STILL THINK HE IS THE GREATEST… WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEIR HEADS? BigAl says: That same flag code referenced in this message, goes on to say that an alien (non-citizen) shall stand at attention, hands at his side. Obama won’t even do that, instead he clasps his hands in front of him.
Dict: alien, b: relating, belonging, or owing allegiance to another country or government : foreign
2: differing in nature or character typically to the point of incompatibility
And incompatible is ‘exactly’ what Obama is. Intelligent, knowledgeable and people capable of thought, must unite to deny this man a seat in the Oval Office!
Even if Obama has socialist agenda, do you really think he can do that ? What he means, I think, was it is time to move away from the selfish tax policy of republican during the past 8 years, serving the rich, that creates unfair social disparity. Economic imbalance will create social crisis and chaotic. The success of Marxism in the 19th century is a clear example. Even Mr. Buffet expressed his desire to be taxed more.
Posted by: pmp2008 | October 21, 2008, 7:36 pm 7:36 pm
The US is currently has the second largest wealth inequality in the world.. the top 1% controls almost 40% of the nations wealth. The Republican tax system as implemented by Bush simply shifts the tax burden down to the middle class. If you want to use the simplistic ‘wealth redistribution’ model, then McCain, like Bush, simply wants to redistribute from the low and middle class to the wealthy.
The claim that doing so creates jobs has been shown false time and time again. When Bush took office, unemployment was at one of it’s lowest in our history at 3.9%.. last August, it hit 6.1%. Large tax cuts to the wealthy did not create jobs.. however, larger tax cuts to the low and middle class will spur the economy due to increased spending on necessaties, not luxuries. That increased spending will in turn generate more revenue for retailers, which in turn will provide greater profits for the wealthy who own those businesses.
In addition, Obamas health plan will generate and additional $140 billion in tax savings a year for businesses, further stimulating the economy, as will the increase in number of insured patients.
In my best Bush impersonation voice, I say “Bring it on”. It’s about time we had some intelligence at the healm, and one whos ideas make sense for America, not just the wealthy.
Posted by: RedNeckBob | October 21, 2008, 7:47 pm 7:47 pm
pmp2008: Exactly. Unfair social disparity has been created and the majority of people in the country are feeling the pain. It needs to be addressed. Some people keep looking down, criticising people on welfare. They need to look up once in a while and take a look at the real problem here – a handful of uber Greedy taking it all and breaking our backs! We can not go on giving and giving to these people. That’s nonesense. Warren Buffet is a wealthy man but he obviously has a social conscience. Some very wealthy people do. But not all of them. If we don’t rein in the greed, it will keep getting worse. We need to act responsibly, call corruption for what it is and start fixing it. People worrying about “share the wealth” – what?! Well, we didn’t share the 700Billion – and none of that went on welfare or foodstamps. Count the zeros. That’s a lot of money. Could have paid for all the real improvements we need to make in this country – education, health, inflation – could have fixed it all up. Where did it go? Wall Street. Wall Street is taking it all. And don’t hold your breath waiting for it to ‘trickle’ down to the people who need it – we wont see a penny of it. Nothing. Some of this wealth could do with a little spreading in my opinion. It’s a joke. A bad one. But a joke.
Posted by: chester burns | October 21, 2008, 7:48 pm 7:48 pm
if you make under $250,000/year, you will see either no tax increase, or even a decrease, depending on your income under Obama’s plan.
under McCain’s plan, only the uber rich will get a tax break.
those are the FACTS.
Healthcare:
Under Obama’s plan, most everyone will have access to some sort of health insurance.
Under Mccain’s plan, health benefits will be taxed. 20million people estimated to loose their insurance. 5,000 tax credit/family will not cover increasing costs. Will do NOTHING about people that 1.can’t afford in the first place. 2. pre-exisiting conditions.
I am starting a small business. I currently do not have health insurance. I can’t even GET insurance because of some minor pre-existing conditions. Even people like me who can AFFORD it, can’t GET it.
McCain doesn’t GET it either.
Posted by: Independent Obama Supporter | October 21, 2008, 8:12 pm 8:12 pm
One more thing, relating to Obama’s economic plan:
under Obama’s plan, he will make funds for small business loans much easier, by giving local govts. access to loan funds for people like me.
That is a great way to stimulate the economy! And make money off the interest.
Obama/Biden 08—The ticket for common sense.
– I’m pretty sure Obama will cause us to go into a depression, –
Any longer under the current tax scheme would trigger depression, that is a given. You cannot continue government spending without raising the revenue to fund that spending, period. As the National Bureau of Economic Policy states:
“Never in the history of modern economics has a large industrial country run persistent current account deficits of the magnitude posted by the U.S. since 2000.”
The sustainability of our current deficit looks dismal, and their best case scenario depending on foreign countries willingness to continue lending money is a near term 21-28% depreciation in the value of the trade-weighted dollar and a considerable slowdown of the American economy.
If anybodies tax plan has a chance to reverse the trend of the last 8 years, it is Obamas.. which is why former fed chairman volker supports it, and why former fed chairman Greenspan has come out and said he does not support McCains tax cuts.
Posted by: Concerned American | October 21, 2008, 11:43 pm 11:43 pm
Oh, the naive voters ! Obama’s “tax plan” is an election gimmick. Peolsi-Frank-Reid-Kennedy are the ones who will write the tax bill. Don’t be suprised when it differs from what you were promised. Every politician says he’ll cut taxes during the election. It’s a scam. Except for Walter Mondale, you saw how well that worked for him. Honesty doesn’t win elections.
Brain are you a moron? For the last 8 years the republicans have been giving out huge tax cuts to the welthy on the promice that they would use that money to create jobs and lower consumer prices. But instead for the last 8 years they have moved factories overseas and layed off workers sold off there companies all the while stuffing those tax cuts right into there pockets. eight years of that very same economic stratagy ahs landed up right where we are now. You like it like this vote for McCain and you can continue this economic suicide. If not then vote for Obama. It really is that simple even though the GOP doesnt want you to see that truth.
George’s little hip-hip hoorah commentators on the program demonstrate their leftist, maxist and communist leanings. Why not, you own the TV, radio and newspaper! You are a minority and Obama is selling the American public a bale of goods.
George Will doesn’t have a chance with you liberals. He can’t even get a word in edgewise. Too bad it isn’t balanced with liberals and conservatives as it should be.
And too bad we won’t hear your comments when we have a one-party government changing and making the laws and Obama as dictator and you lose your free speech!
Wake up America!!!!
