GOP Rep.: Liberals Hate Real Americans

"Liberals hate real Americans that work and accomplish and achieve and believe in God.”

So said Rep. Robin Hayes, R-N.C., at a rally in North Carolina Saturday for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who was not there at the time of the comments.

New York Observer reporter Jason Horowitz reported the comments (he left out "and accomplish") after which Hayes spokeswoman Amanda Little protested, saying that Hayes denied making the comments.

The Politico, however, tracked down the audio.

Guess what?

He said it.

"I genuinely did not recall making the statement and, after reading it, there is no doubt that it came out completely the wrong way," Hayes said in a statement. "I actually was trying to work to keep the crowd as respectful as possible, so this is definitely not what I intended.”

Hayes made the comment one day after his colleague Rep. Michelle Bachmann, R-Minn., suggested that the Obamas have "anti-American" views, and called for the media to investigate which members of Congress are "pro-America," and which are "anti-America."

Say what you may his comments have merits. There are many liberals that love this country, but some don’t. They are always complaining about America for something or another. As far as they are concerned the world would be a better place if America did not exist.
For one, I’m sick of hearing liberal celebrities threaten to leave the country if their favorite candidate does not win the election. They talk about France as if it’s like a model for the world, meanwhile the French are leaving their country in drove because of policies that make succeeding not worth it. But yet these people can’t wait to copy the French.

The GOP has become the party of hate, bitterness and aggressive division.
After Nov 4 it will be in war with itself for many years.

Because there are people out there that will believe anything we tell them..
I think that a constitutional law should be passed that allows “SCAM ARTIST” BE LEGALIZED.

That he doesn’t remember actually saying such a horrible thing is even more alarming. He must have treated it as common knowledge, something all real Americans agree upon…
Shocking. Very insulting to millions of ordinary Americans that don’t embrace the conservative ideology..
Good that this party, that is sometimes behaving like a sectarian community these days, will lose the election badly.

what in the h*ll does believing in “god” have to do with loving America, working hard, achieving, and accomplishing? I live and work in New York City, and I can say from experience that this Republican guy’s statement is not only way off the mark in terms of truth, but it really makes his party seem a bit out of touch…

I’m a liberal and I HATE republicans who think that I am not an America lover. How dare you speak such vile untruths. I served my country during Viet Nam, enlisting when I was only 17 and with a high school diploma and have lived a very productive life and I just retired after teaching for 31 years.
I have never broken law, I have never uttered a lie about anyone or anything and I have never disrespected anyone. I am ashamed of the republican candidates and their low moral standing. I am ashamed of the religious right propping these false characters up as what America represents.
If McCain/Palin are the best you can do there is no hope for America.

Mattc,
Funny about what you said is that for the past month all I have been hearing are people who have been passing judgement on Palin. She is too religious. She is too pro-life. She is not a real woman. How can she run for office with so many children? Republicans in NYC are getting attacked. But liberals are always right. Liberals attacked republicans and it is reported as if they provoked.
For all these people who assume I’m a Republican you are wrong. I’m independent. I’m the center. I think both sides have a lot to offer and I take the best of both sides. But liberals hating America is not a lie. Some republicans hates gays just like some liberals hate America. It may not be PC but the truth. Just because it makes you uncomfortable to be confronted with that truth does not make it wrong.

coolrepublica–where do you get off deciding who loves america and who doesn’t? loving your country does not mean that you don’t recognize its flaws, or that you aren’t sometimes ashamed of the people that claim to represent it.
i love my country, but people like representative hays make me loathe some of its citizens.

ABC News is so in the tank for Barack Obama!
What the headline says: “GOP Rep.: Liberals Hate Real Americans”
What he really said: “Liberals hate real Americans that work and accomplish and achieve and believe in God.”
that’s like headlining “GOP Rep: I hate child(ren)” when in fact the story is “GOP Rep: I hate child rapists.”

Speak for yourself. There are plenty of atheistic Republicans. As to France: what the he** woul dyou know about France? Typical backwoods talk and you’ve probably never even BEEN to France. What the heck does FRANCE have to do with this election??? It’s the same stupidity that comes out of Palin’s mouth. She’s a moron who has finds herself worshipped by other underachievers. Palin is the same idiot who actually said the Vice President is in charge of the Senate. My daughter learned this wasn’t true in her 7th grade civic class. ACORN -you guys need to quit playing, get over your hundreds of “secret conspiracy” theories, and just get some decent candidates.
McCain has people on his own campain who have been investigated multiple times for voter fraud, for actually throwing away registrations, and changing registration information. A REPUBLICAN REPRESENTATIVE verified the claims.
The Pubs im MI just admiited guilt and settled in a case of voter suppression.
ACORN has pointed out any irregular or suspect ballots when they were submitted. But GO lawyers are trying to make that an issue now. It’s a non-issue and you know it. Obama is kicking butt and you have nothing left but weak accusations.

I have voted in every election I have been eligible for since turning 18. I have worked hard, paid taxes and created jobs in this country. I was a member of college repulicans, worked on campaigns. I read from various news sources. I feel I am better educated on the founding of this country and its documents, including the Federalist papers in greater depth than most Americans. I am proud of this country and our place in history, the world and the future.
I might be considered socially liberal, yet fiscally conservative. The GOP no longer represents true freedom as enshrined in our constitution.
I am a REAL American. I live in NC. I am voting for Obama and other democrats on teh ticket (my first time).

By the way: the point of this piece is that Robin Hayes made a defamatory remark, and when he was called on it, he LIED about ever saying it believing there was no audio press there, THEN when there’s an actual RECORDING of him saying it, he loses his MEMORY???? Is he kidding???? Are Republicans this desperate that they’re willing to lie about the other side not believing in God and that the race is about RACE? Essentially, what’s going on in these smaller areas is they’re drawing lines in the sand scaring these poor White working areas about the big bad Black man that’s going to come in and change the way they live, they’re going to lose their jobs, and God will no longer exist. And people are believing this crap. But thankfully, not enough people to sway the election. Obama will be the next President, things will be better, fears will be allayed, God will still be there, and whatever issues these folks have afterward will have only to do with Obama’s skin tone. And I believe he can handle that.

And I hate it when legit posts get deleted.
That’s what I hate.
I also hate people who label anyone who criticizes Bush or McCain a liberal or a commie or a leftie or socialist or Anti-American or whatever.
Those people are …… (a word that is a no-no here that starts with ‘i’.)
And they also demostrate tendencies that seem to support a totalitarian nationalist ideology where no one must question the president.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson legally changed his name to Chad Ocho Cinco (“8 5″ in Spanish). His voter registration card would say “Chad Ocho Cinco” on it. If he were to take that registration card into a polling station in Cincinnati, OH, and it checks out with the voter register from the Secretary of State, the poll worker has no right to question the validity of the voter registration card, even if “Ocho Cinco” is an absurd surname. In other words, if Ohio’s Secretary of State were to issue voter registration cards for every voter registration she receives, fraudulent or not (which she seems bent on doing), a voter walking into an Ohio polling station with a “Mickey Mouse” voter registration will not be questioned.

Don’t these Republicans (Sarah Palin, Rep. Hayes) know that people who do not support their policies or share their views have votes too? Some of us are not even liberals. We don’t hate real Americans, but we don’t like these so-called “Republicans” who are more interested in calling people liberals rather than dealing with issues real Americans care about. Even McCain was called a “closet liberal” in 2000 when he was running against Bush. On November 4 these “Republicans” will know what real Americans think of them.

At the end of the day, many of the arguments Republicans are making about Obama in their last ditch effort to scare Whites into voting McCain were used to keep Blacks from voting and from having rights in this country. “They’re not like us”, “They don’t deserve it”, “We’re better than them”. I have some complaints and criticisms of this country, but that doesn’t mean I hate it; I just want it to be better than it is at times.
To the wingnuts, any criticism of the US is viewed as hatred. There is no middle ground at all. You either are a loyal supporter all the way, or you are some kind of traitor.
Now, does that strike you as un-American, to say there cannot be any criticism of the president or the country?
Isn’t that what the country was founded upon, the notion that the average citizen can dissent against the government and leaders without fear of repercussion for our words?
A real patriot is loyal to the country, not the current administration.

Wow, Janice. I guess the “press” as that idiot Palin and the rest of the frightened GOP want to label any journalist outside of FOX News and The National Review are to blame for Bush’s lie (which as far as the rest of us God Fearing Christians know is a SIN), the thousands of dead American soldiers who have their lives and continue to die BECAUSE of his lies, the poor execution of economic policies because there WERE no economic policies aside from Bush rewarding his friends in corproate America (see the current Wall Street and economic plight), and his overall miserable failure as a president. Yes Janice. It’s the media’s fault. Bush hasn’t done anything to draw anyone’s wrath — except the largest majority of his own party. For any Republican to run successfully in this country, it is imperative for them to completely denounce the sitting president and current head of their party. He’s not on the campaign trail because he would be a detriment to McCain and this has absolutely NOTHING to do with the media. It is Republican’s view of their leader. Obviously Democrats are not keeping this man off the campaign trail. Don’t you think if he was worth his salt, that McCain would be hugging him at each stop? McCain has been VERY clear: he’s NOT Bush, doesn’t agree with his policies, and he believes Bush’s policies are what has gotten the country and world into this mess and why he’s running COUNTER to Bush. You’re not going to read the rest of the world’s newspapers or listen to any other news, but catch a glimpse at foxnews.com or watch their cable shows. They don’t even MENTION Bush. Maybe they’re all God-hating liberal elite media types, too….

It’s a fact.
Deal with it.

The Democratic Party headed by Senator Obama has become the party of hate, bitterness, ageism, genderism, racism and abolute distortions. Obama speaks to the weak minded and they believe him.

It makes me sick to read these posts that try to PRETEND that a Christian can be a liberal and vote for Obama. It’s NOT possible. You cannot SUPPORT abortion if you are a Christian, its as simple as that.
It’s too bad that you don’t like that premise, but its fact.

This guy is up for reelection in 2010. He should stay on the progressive radar. His record is worthy of review, guys.
By the way, I’m a Christian,too.

Christians also cannot support offensive wars, either.
McCain dropped bombs in Vietnamese people.
Obama supports the “right to choose”.
So you kind of have to pick the lesser of the two evils… and I think that is best left up to the individual and his or her conscience.
I have never voted pro-choice in my life, but I hate it when people tell me that Republicans politicians aren’t also guilty of doing the devil’s business.

I am a Catholic. I think a woman should have the right to choose. Would I do it myself? No.

Sorry, I was talking about Martinez from Florida. He should be on the progressive radar in 2010. Go read his record.

By the way, on September 11th, democrats and liberals died. In our military, democrats and liberals serve. Now, you say only republicans love America. I’m mad. I’m going to do something about about. I’m voting. I’m sending money to send these nutty people home and away from leaderhsip positions in America. God bless America! I’m a Christian, too!

Let see the Republicans have called Obama a baby killer, somebody who palls around with terrorists, have called Colin Powell a racist for endorsing Obama, have questioned Obama and his followers patrtiotism and have referred to them as UnAmerican. I could keep naming them, but I’ll keep it short.

ryan quotes: “”Until this moment, senator, I think I never gauged your cruelty or recklessness….Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?” ”
Nice histrionic quote aimed at painting the oppostion as right wing nut cases. A bit of history, Ryan, while it was true that McCarthy went far over the line in his pursuit of spies accessing the US Government, it would be revealed many years later (1995) that, he was right. Don’t take my word for it. Read the NSA reports about the Venona Papers. Here is a quote:
“The translations disclose agents with access to the White House, Congress, and political parties, as well as agents in the media and in high-tech defense industries. New York message nos. 1635, 21 Nov 44 and 12-16, 4 Jan 45 reveal assets and infighting relating to ROBERT’s (Greg Silvermaster) large KGB net in government departments and agencies in Washington.”

There’s a really smart candidate out there who keeps saying “Don’t boo, just vote.” In this case, don’t complain, just donate. We just raised $800,000 for Michele Bachmann’s opponent after her very hateful remarks on Hardball last week. Send a message to Hayes’ opponent today. Donate to Larry Kissell NOW!

Republican party is the party of division. The Democratic party is the party of inclusion. The republican party relies on division to win elections. That why they always use wedge issues to pit one group of americans against another. They pit black against white, straight vs gay, well off vs struggling american, old vs young, city vs suburb/rural. big cities vs small towns, pro gun vs anti gun, pro life vs pro choice, etc. That’s the republican playbook, they have to pit us against each other to win and they have become experts at it. It’s up to voters to penalized them for their behavior and ruining our great nation.

One can easily distinguish posts by gender on threads such as this.
Some Women think with their hearts while they leave the brain unengaged.
They here sound bites, punchlines and false stump speeches and without verifying, they serve as willing vectors for disseminating such falsehoods.
I stand in awe of Women. But they need to think more with their brains and do away with excess emotions.
For misguided statements made by some of these GOP Politicians, I am not suprised.
An apple does not fall far from its tree.

It’s up to voters to punish them for ruining our great nation and their behavior of putting corporations and greed over struggling americans.
Unite and work together. Vote Democratic.

I am registered Republican and I am disappointed people are not wise to ploys used during campaigns just to get votes. Liberal and conservative – very tired of these connotations! People study the issues of each and how the issues truly affect you and effect into the future.
